Moreover, association of TMAO levels with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was tested separately in patients with and without T2D.

    Anti-osteoclastic treatments for breast cancer occasionally cause medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Moreover, elevated glycolytic activity, which is known as the Warburg effect, is usually observed in these breast cancer cells. Previously, we found that cellular communication network factor 2 (CCN2) production and glycolysis enhanced each other in chondrocytes. Here, we evaluated the interplay between CCN2 and glycolysis in breast cancer cells, as we suspected a possible involvement of CCN2 in the Warburg effect in highly invasive breast cancer cells.

    Two human breast cancer cell lines with a distinct phenotype were used. Glycolysis was inhibited by using 2 distinct compounds, and gene silencing was performed using siRNA. Glycolysis and the expression of relevant genes were monitored via colorimetric assays and quantitative RT-PCR, respectively.

    Although CCN2 expression was almost completely silenced when treating invasive breast cancer cells with a siRNA cocktail against CCN2, glycolytic activity was not affected. Notably, the expression of glycolytic enzyme genes, which was repressed by CCN2 deficiency in chondrocytes, tended to increase upon CCN2 silencing in breast cancer cells. Inhibition of glycolysis, which resulted in the repression of CCN2 expression in chondrocytic cells, did not alter or strongly enhanced CCN2 expression in the invasive and non-invasive breast cancer cells, respectively.

  • Valid and reliable instruments are needed to assess such beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge. This study aimed to translate Breast Cancer Screening Beliefs Questionnaire into Persian and evaluate its psychometric properties among Iranian women.

    In this methodological study, the twelve-item Breast Cancer Screening Beliefs Questionnaire was translated into Persian and filled out by 1256 Iranian women. Face, content, convergent, and discriminant validity were evaluated and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed for construct validity evaluation. Reliability was also evaluated through calculating Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's omega, Average inter-item correlation, and test-retest intraclass correlation coefficient and finally, composite reliability was estimated.

    Three factors were extracted in factor analysis which included screening attitude, screening knowledge and perception, and screening practice. These factors explained 55.71% of the total variance of breast cancer screening beliefs. This three-factor model was confirmed in confirmatory factor analysis based on model fit indices (PCFI = 0.703, PNFI = 0.697, CMIN/DF = 2.127, RMSEA = 0.30, GFI = 0.980, AGFI = 0.998, and CFI = 0.991). Convergent and discriminant validity were also confirmed. Composite reliability and test-retest intraclass correlation coefficient were more than 0.7.

    Fungal infections associated with the use of dentures, like denture stomatitis, are difficult to prevent and treat. This in situ study aimed to investigate the efficacy of cinnamaldehyde for the disinfection of complete removable dentures, and the effect on the physical and mechanical properties (Vickers microhardness, color, and surface roughness) of the acrylic resin.

    Acrylic resin disks were inserted into the dentures of a probabilistic sample of 33 complete denture users, that used cinnamaldehyde (27 μg/mL) and 0.5% sodium hypochlorite solutions in a 20 min/7-days protocol of dentures immersion in each solution, with a wash-out period of 7 days, to constitute a crossover-study. The disks were analyzed before and after the immersion, for the presence of microorganisms (CFU/mL) and by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Also, the surface roughness (Ra) and Vickers microhardness were measured, and color parameters were analyzed using the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) method. Data was analyzed by Wil μg/mL cinnamaldehyde solution was effective against all evaluated microorganisms and caused minor alterations in hardness, surface roughness, and color parameters, with no clinical relevance.
    The interest for qualitative research methodology has expanded beyond theoretical academic research on medical education, gathering interest from all healthcare professionals. Qualitative research has potentials in exploring the social, emotional, psychological aspects of care and in broadening professionals' scientific competencies. Nonetheless, qualitative research has still not been embraced within formal and academic curricula for future professionals, preventing newer generations from appreciating the value of its epistemological and methodological aspects and from using it in the development and implementation of clinical research. The purpose of this study was to comprehend the attitudes of health professionals learning and conducting qualitative studies within a practical training program developed in their workplace.

    The present work consisted of a focused ethnography, including 14 professionals during their one-year attendance training on qualitative research methodology. Strategies used for colualitative research methodology hands-on training addressed to health professionals in continuing education are proposed.

    A small cross-sectional survey of 519 adults aged over 40 years old living in the rural-urban fringe and urban area of Xihu District, Hangzhou City, was conducted using convenience sampling and a self-designed questionnaire. The measures assessed awareness of hospice care (13-item scale), attitudes towards life support therapy (3-item scale), and demand for hospice care services (9-item scale).

    The rate of awareness of hospice care among community residents was 50.30%. A total of 51.0% of residents wanted only comfortable life-sustaining treatment at the end of their lives. The acceptance of hospice care was positively correlated with the degree of understanding (x
     = 18.382, P = 0.001), and residents in the urban area were more likely to prefer hospice care than residents in the urban-rural fringe (x
     = 7.186, P = 0.028). Elderly residents showed a stronger tendency to prefer comfortable life support therapy (x
     = 12.988, P < 0.001). A total of 83.04% of the residents accepted the current necessity for hospice care to be provided in medical institutions. The preferred locations were professional hospice care institutions or general hospitals.   • Chimpanzees that participated in the PT program showed significant increases in ratings of physical health, well-being, and activity levels across phases of the program. Furthermore, compared to control chimpanzees, PT chimpanzees showed significant increases in ratings of ease of movement. Because raters were not blind to physical therapy treatment, our results represent an initial evaluation of the program that may suggest that participation in the PT program has physical, behavioral, and welfare benefits. Assessments of novel geriatric-focused care strategies and programs are essential to further enhance the welfare of the captive chimpanzee population, which is currently comprised of many geriatric animals, whose proportion of the captive population will only increase. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.PURPOSE Motion artifact limits the clinical translation of high-field MR. We present an optical prospective motion correction system for 7 Tesla MRI using a custom-built, within-coil camera to track an optical marker mounted on a subject. METHODS The camera was constructed to fit between the transmit-receive coils with direct line of sight to a forehead-mounted marker, improving upon prior mouthpiece work at 7 Tesla MRI. We validated the system by acquiring a 3D-IR-FSPGR on a phantom with deliberate motion applied. The same 3D-IR-FSPGR and a 2D gradient echo were then acquired on 7 volunteers, with/without deliberate motion and with/without motion correction. Three neuroradiologists blindly assessed image quality. In 1 subject, an ultrahigh-resolution 2D gradient echo with 4 averages was acquired with motion correction. Four single-average acquisitions were then acquired serially, with the subject allowed to move between acquisitions. A fifth single-average 2D gradient echo was acquired following subject removal and reentry. RESULTS In both the phantom and human subjects, deliberate and involuntary motion were well corrected. Despite marked levels of motion, high-quality images were produced without spurious artifacts. The quantitative ratings confirmed significant improvements in image quality in the absence and presence of deliberate motion across both acquisitions (P less then .001). The system enabled ultrahigh-resolution visualization of the hippocampus during a long scan and robust alignment of serially acquired scans with interspersed movement. CONCLUSION We demonstrate the use of a within-coil camera to perform optical prospective motion correction and ultrahigh-resolution imaging at 7 Tesla MRI. The setup does not require a mouthpiece, which could improve accessibility of motion correction during 7 Tesla MRI exams. © 2020 International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.Immediate biomechanical and functional effects of knee braces are often reported, however, the duration and type of knee brace treatment for knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remain unclear. The objective was to evaluate usage, comfort, pain, and knee adduction moment (KAM) of three knee braces each worn 3 months by patients. Twenty-four patients with KOA were assigned in a randomized crossover trial a valgus three-point bending system brace (V3P-brace), an unloader brace with valgus and external rotation functions (VER-brace) and a stabilizing brace used after ligament injuries (ACL-brace). Functional questionnaires and gait assessment were carried out before and after each brace wear period of 3 months. A Friedman test was applied between brace wear diary recordings. Repeated measures analyses of variance contrasted the factors brace type (ACL, V3P, and VER), time (pre and post) and wear (without and with) on comfort, pain, function, and KAM. Brace usage was similar, but the V3P-brace was slightly less worn. Discomfort was significantly lowered with the VER-brace. All knee braces relieved pain and symptoms from 10% to 40%. KAM angular impulse was reduced with the three braces, but the VER-brace obtained the lowest relative reduction of 9%. The interaction between time and wear indicated that part of the KAM reduction with brace wear was maintained post treatment. All three knee braces have great benefits for pain and function among the medial KOA population. The VER-brace offers additional advantages on daily use, comfort and KAM, which could improve compliance to brace treatment. © 2020 Orthopaedic Research Society.     Chimpanzees that participated in the PT program showed significant increases in ratings of physical health, well-being, and activity levels across phases of the program. Furthermore, compared to control chimpanzees, PT chimpanzees showed significant increases in ratings of ease of movement. Because raters were not blind to physical therapy treatment, our results represent an initial evaluation of the program that may suggest that participation in the PT program has physical, behavioral, and welfare benefits. We present an optical prospective motion correction system for 7 Tesla MRI using a custom-built, within-coil camera to track an optical marker mounted on a subject. METHODS The camera was constructed to fit between the transmit-receive coils with direct line of sight to a forehead-mounted marker, improving upon prior mouthpiece work at 7 Tesla MRI. We validated the system by acquiring a 3D-IR-FSPGR on a phantom with deliberate motion applied. The same 3D-IR-FSPGR and a 2D gradient echo were then acquired on 7 volunteers, with/without deliberate motion and with/without motion correction. Three neuroradiologists blindly assessed image quality. In 1 subject, an ultrahigh-resolution 2D gradient echo with 4 averages was acquired with motion correction. Four single-average acquisitions were then acquired serially, with the subject allowed to move between acquisitions. A fifth single-average 2D gradient echo was acquired following subject removal and reentry. RESULTS In both the phantom and human subjects, deliberate and involuntary motion were well corrected. Despite marked levels of motion, high-quality images were produced without spurious artifacts. The quantitative ratings confirmed significant improvements in image quality in the absence and presence of deliberate motion across both acquisitions (P less then .001). The system enabled ultrahigh-resolution visualization of the hippocampus during a long scan and robust alignment of serially acquired scans with interspersed movement. CONCLUSION We demonstrate the use of a within-coil camera to perform optical prospective motion correction and ultrahigh-resolution imaging at 7 Tesla MRI. The objective was to evaluate usage, comfort, pain, and knee adduction moment (KAM) of three knee braces each worn 3 months by patients. Twenty-four patients with KOA were assigned in a randomized crossover trial a valgus three-point bending system brace (V3P-brace), an unloader brace with valgus and external rotation functions (VER-brace) and a stabilizing brace used after ligament injuries (ACL-brace). Functional questionnaires and gait assessment were carried out before and after each brace wear period of 3 months. A Friedman test was applied between brace wear diary recordings. Repeated measures analyses of variance contrasted the factors brace type (ACL, V3P, and VER), time (pre and post) and wear (without and with) on comfort, pain, function, and KAM. Brace usage was similar, but the V3P-brace was slightly less worn. Discomfort was significantly lowered with the VER-brace. All knee braces relieved pain and symptoms from 10% to 40%. KAM angular impulse was reduced with the three braces, but the VER-brace obtained the lowest relative reduction of 9%. The interaction between time and wear indicated that part of the KAM reduction with brace wear was maintained post treatment. All three knee braces have great benefits for pain and function among the medial KOA population. The VER-brace offers additional advantages on daily use, comfort and KAM, which could improve compliance to brace treatment. © 2020 Orthopaedic Research Society. There were no complications related to surgery in terms of the resulting scar and dysesthesia. The mean operative time was 55 minutes.     From March 2015 to September 2017, a total of 182 patients were prospectively recruited into our cohort after complete physical and psychological evaluation that deemed suitable for penile enhancement. Penis circumference was measured at the mid-length of the penis. Mean was 7.03 cm (6.93 ± 1.00 cm) and 12.1 cm (10.59 ± 1.15 cm) during flaccid and erection, respectively. All patients received human acellular dermal matrix graft under spinal or local anesthesia. The allograft was preconditioned in normal saline for 20 minutes, and mesh incisions were made to optimize blood flow. The width was equal to the circumference of both corpus cavernosa but without corpus spongiosum. The length of that sexual self-esteem and functioning significantly improved. In addition, 59 patients reported alleviation of premature ejaculation.

    Axillary osmidrosis is a distressing problem that can particularly affect a patient's social life. In severe cases, patients may seek a surgical treatment to achieve a permanent effect. Many treatment techniques involving destruction or removal of the apocrine and eccrine glands have been developed. However, previous treatments have been hindered by surgical or aesthetic concerns. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the hidden blade scalpel procedure in treating axillary osmidrosis.

    From December 2012 to December 2016, 372 patients with axillary osmidrosis underwent the hidden blade scalpel procedure. One 5-mm incision was made at approximately 1 cm beyond the axillary hairline. A hidden blade scalpel was then used to remove the subcutaneous tissue, including the plexus, apocrine and eccrine glands, and hair follicles, from the skin. The clinical efficacy was evaluated using a questionnaire.

However, which qualities Canadian plastic surgeons value most in their current residents remains unclear. A national survey study was conducted to identify which attributes surgeons associate with the highest resident performance and which behaviours trainees should prioritize during their training.

  • BACKGROUND Music performance is a highly stressful activity, requiring skilled neuromuscular dexterity. A lack of reported strategies for musicians suffering performance-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMDs) exists. Papers investigating the role that postural distortions or spinal structural anomalies that could play a role in setting the stage for PRMD do not exist. The purpose of this paper was to provide a description and discussion of the use of a specialized upper cervical manual correction at the cranio-cervical junction (CCJ) to treat a violist who had disabling pain in her wrists, arms, neck, and hip. Differential diagnoses are required regarding possible confounding elements within the cervical spine. CASE REPORT After 40 years of music performance, a violist experienced severe pain while attempting to play the simplest student musical pieces. Early retirement seemed imminent. To determine appropriate chiropractic approach, the patient's clinical assessment included active range of motion, chiropractic tests, palpation, and radiographic study. Postural distortions, hypertonic muscles, joint pain, arthritis, and ponticulus posticus (PP) were noted. Upper cervical spine orthogonal radiographic series were used to develop a correction strategy. These images identified excursion of the cervical spine away from the vertical axis and C0-C1-C2 misalignments. After performing low-velocity, low-force manual correction to the CCJ, the patient experienced immediate relief of wrist pain. Over a 9-month follow-up period, the patient reported gradual decrease of pain and increased stamina while performing. Upon completing chiropractic care, the violist's career was restored. CONCLUSIONS This case supports the hypothesis that evaluating and correcting spinal structures proximal to painful extremities may represent an efficient and long-lasting solution for PRMD.BACKGROUND Mini-chromosome maintenance families (MCMs) were considered the key factors for DNA replication initiation. Emerging evidences indicate that MCM2-7 (MCMs) are highly expressed in tissues from various malignant tumors. However, little is known about the clinical values of MCMs in breast cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS In our study, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis was performed to investigate expression patterns, potential functions, and prognostic values of MCMs in breast cancer, through ONCOMINE, **-GenExMiner v4.1, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, cBioPortal and GeneMANIA databases. RESULTS We found that mRNA levels of MCMs were significantly elevated in breast cancer, especially in fast-growing and spreading tumor subtypes. These over-expressed MCMs predicted worse prognosis for breast cancer patients with shorter relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival. Among these six factors, high expression of MCM2/4/5/7 significantly reduced the RFS for patients with Luminal-A or B breast cancer and elevated MCM6/7 indicated shorter RFS for patients with basal-like or HER2-positive breast cancer. We also found that genomic alteration of MCMs was frequently found in breast cancer and the most common alteration was mRNA upregulation and amplification. Furthermore, MCMs were highly correlated with CDC45, CDC7, TIMELESS, ORC6, MCM10, ORC5, ORC4 and ORC3, mainly functioning to control the DNA replication initiation and genome stability. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that MCMs are attractive prognostic biomarkers for breast cancer. Our study also provides useful clinical information about the potential of MCMs as therapeutic targets.BACKGROUND Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) has emerged as a promising marker in respiratory research. The aim of this study was to determine the reference range values of FENO for healthy Saudi adults and the factors associated with FENO levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Physiology, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January 2016 to August 2017. A total of 429 healthy Saudi adults were initially recruited. RESULTS We observed that the FENO levels of women were significantly lower than those of men (18.6 vs. 21.3, P=0.009). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that body surface area and weight were significant predictors of FENO levels. CONCLUSIONS In this study, FENO levels were significantly affected by demographic variables. Hence, in using such a scaffold, plenty of highvalue-added flavonoids can be synthesized by chemical or biological catalyzation approaches. (2S)-Naringenin is one of the most commonly used flavonoid scaffolds. However, biosynthesizing (2S)-naringenin has been restricted not only by low production but also by the expensive precursors and inducers that are used. Herein, we established an induction-free system to de novo biosynthesize (2S)-naringenin in Escherichia coli. The tyrosine synthesis pathway was enhanced by overexpressing feedback inhibition-resistant genes (aroGfbr and tyrAfbr) and knocking out a repressor gene (tyrR). After optimizing the fermentation medium and conditions, we found that glycerol, glucose, fatty acids, potassium acetate, temperature, and initial pH are important for producing (2S)-naringenin. Using the optimum fermentation medium and conditions, our best strain, Nar-17LM1, could produce 588 mg/l (2S)-naringenin from glucose in a 5-L bioreactor, the highest titer reported to date in E. coli.

The purpose of this paper was to provide a description and discussion of the use of a specialized upper cervical manual correction at the cranio-cervical junction (CCJ) to treat a violist who had disabling pain in her wrists, arms, neck, and hip. Differential diagnoses are required regarding possible confounding elements within the cervical spine. CASE REPORT After 40 years of music performance, a violist experienced severe pain while attempting to play the simplest student musical pieces. Early retirement seemed imminent. To determine appropriate chiropractic approach, the patient's clinical assessment included active range of motion, chiropractic tests, palpation, and radiographic study. Postural distortions, hypertonic muscles, joint pain, arthritis, and ponticulus posticus (PP) were noted. Upper cervical spine orthogonal radiographic series were used to develop a correction strategy. These images identified excursion of the cervical spine away from the vertical axis and C0-C1-C2 misalignments. After performing low-velocity, low-force manual correction to the CCJ, the patient experienced immediate relief of wrist pain. Over a 9-month follow-up period, the patient reported gradual decrease of pain and increased stamina while performing. Upon completing chiropractic care, the violist's career was restored. CONCLUSIONS This case supports the hypothesis that evaluating and correcting spinal structures proximal to painful extremities may represent an efficient and long-lasting solution for PRMD.BACKGROUND Mini-chromosome maintenance families (MCMs) were considered the key factors for DNA replication initiation. Emerging evidences indicate that MCM2-7 (MCMs) are highly expressed in tissues from various malignant tumors. However, little is known about the clinical values of MCMs in breast cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS In our study, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis was performed to investigate expression patterns, potential functions, and prognostic values of MCMs in breast cancer, through ONCOMINE, bc-GenExMiner v4.1, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, cBioPortal and GeneMANIA databases. RESULTS We found that mRNA levels of MCMs were significantly elevated in breast cancer, especially in fast-growing and spreading tumor subtypes. These over-expressed MCMs predicted worse prognosis for breast cancer patients with shorter relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival. Among these six factors, high expression of MCM2/4/5/7 significantly reduced the RFS for patients with Luminal-A or B breast cancer and elevated MCM6/7 indicated shorter RFS for patients with basal-like or HER2-positive breast cancer. We also found that genomic alteration of MCMs was frequently found in breast cancer and the most common alteration was mRNA upregulation and amplification. Furthermore, MCMs were highly correlated with CDC45, CDC7, TIMELESS, ORC6, MCM10, ORC5, ORC4 and ORC3, mainly functioning to control the DNA replication initiation and genome stability. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that MCMs are attractive prognostic biomarkers for breast cancer. Our study also provides useful clinical information about the potential of MCMs as therapeutic targets.BACKGROUND Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) has emerged as a promising marker in respiratory research. The aim of this study was to determine the reference range values of FENO for healthy Saudi adults and the factors associated with FENO levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Physiology, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January 2016 to August 2017. A total of 429 healthy Saudi adults were initially recruited. After optimizing the fermentation medium and conditions, we found that glycerol, glucose, fatty acids, potassium acetate, temperature, and initial pH are important for producing (2S)-naringenin. Using the optimum fermentation medium and conditions, our best strain, Nar-17LM1, could produce 588 mg/l (2S)-naringenin from glucose in a 5-L bioreactor, the highest titer reported to date in E. coli.

Only eyes fit successfully with scleral contact lenses for ≥1 year were included. Exclusion criteria were prior corneal surgery, dystrophy, degeneration, and trauma.

    A total of 157 eyes of 86 subjects met the study criteria. The mean Keratoconus Severity Score at initial fitting was 3.6 ± 1.0. Lenses were gas-permeable and nonfenestrated, with a mean overall diameter of 15.8 ± 0.6 mm and 70.1% toric scleral periphery. Physiological adverse events occurred in 9.6% of eyes, including microbial keratitis (0.6%), phlyctenulosis (0.6%), corneal abrasion (1.3%), conth keratoconus.
    Consistent with other groups, our study demonstrates excellent safety and efficacy of scleral contact lenses in subjects with keratoconus.

    The purpose of this study was to report a case in which a post-graft keratoconus patient can be successfully fit and refit with scleral lenses as their corneal tissue changes shape with time. Ultimately, the goal for this patient was to delay the need for regrafting procedures.

    This case presents a 57-year-old patient who has undergone penetrating keratoplasty in both eyes secondary to keratoconus. His original corneal grafts were 15 years or older. Because of a history of graft rejection in the right eye, he had a regraft in 2004. The left eye has signs of early rejection. The patient has been a scleral lens wearer since 2008. Within the past 24 months, he has required lenslenses for up to 6 hours. By fitting this patient in a scleral lens, we have been able to avoid the need for a regraft and the possible negative outcomes that can be associated.

This study investigated the agreement between theoretical models and empirical measurements of scleral lens-induced corneal edema with respect to central fluid reservoir thickness.

  • The resonance energy transfer (RET) between an excited fluorescent probe molecule and a plasmonic nanoparticle (AuNP) has been investigated to evaluate the effect of protein molecules on the RET efficiency. We have found that the energy transfer to a functionalized AuNP can be modulated by a sub-monolayer film of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) protein. The interactions of PD-L1 with AuNP@Cit involve incorporation of the protein in AuNP shell and formation of a submonolayer adsorption film with voids enabling gated surface plasmon resonance energy transfer (SPRET). A model of the gated-RET system based on the protein size, estimated using Fisher-Polikarpov-Craievich density approximation, has been developed and can be utilized for other proteins, with minimum data requirement, as well. The value of the equilibrium constant KL determined for the Langmuir isotherm is high KL = 1.27 × 108 M-1, enabling highly sensitive control of the gated-RET by PD-L1. Thus, with the gated-RET technique, one can determine PD-L1 within the dynamic range, extending from 1.2 to 50 nM. Moreover, we have found that the Gibbs free energy for PD-L1 binding to AuNP@Cit is -46.26 kJ/mol (-11.05 kcal/mol), indicating a strong adsorption with supramolecular interactions. The proposed gated-RET system, with the fluorescence intensity of the fluorophore probe molecule modulated by plasmonic quenching with AuNP and shielding of energy transfer by the adsorbed PD-L1 can be further developed for determination of PD-L1 in pharmaceutical formulations for immune checkpoint control in cancer therapy.KRAS oncogenic mutations are widespread in lung cancer and, because direct targeting of KRAS has proven to be challenging, KRAS-driven cancers lack effective therapies. One alternative strategy for developing KRAS targeted therapies is to identify downstream targets involved in promoting important malignant features, such as the acquisition of a cancer stem-like and metastatic phenotype. Based on previous studies showing that KRAS activates nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) through inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase β (IKKβ) to promote lung tumourigenesis, we hypothesized that inhibition of IKKβ would reduce stemness, migration and invasion of KRAS-mutant human lung cancer cells. We show that KRAS-driven lung tumoursphere-derived cells exhibit stemness features and increased IKKβ kinase activity. IKKβ targeting by different approaches reduces the expression of stemness-associated genes, tumoursphere formation, and self-renewal, and preferentially impairs the proliferation of KRAS-driven lung tumoursphere-derived cells. Moreover, we show that IKKβ targeting reduces tumour cell migration and invasion, potentially by regulating both expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2). In conclusion, our results indicate that IKKβ is an important mediator of KRAS-induced stemness and invasive features in lung cancer, and, therefore, might constitute a promising strategy to lower recurrence rates, reduce metastatic dissemination, and improve survival of lung cancer patients with KRAS-driven disease.Telomeres are DNA-protein complexes that cap and protect the ends of linear chromosomes. The modifying agent (APTES) was directly deposited on the MWCNTs surfaces. For the functionalization of MWCNTs, was used not the APTES concentrate, as it had been described in previous works, but its freshly prepared aqueous solution. Properties of APTES-treated MWCNTs were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), Raman spectroscopy and FT-IR. The results showed that the functionalization and chemical compatibility of APTES-treated MWCNTs with epoxy composition provides their best dispersion in the epoxy composition, had important influence on curing behavior, structure and physicochemical properties of the epoxy composites plasticized with trichloroethyl phosphate. The results showed that the functionalization and chemical compatibility of APTES-treated MWCNTs with epoxy composition provides increased of physicomechanical properties of epoxy composites bending stress increases by 194% and bending modulus increases by 137%, the tensile strength increases by 108% and the tensile elastic modulus increases by 52%, impact strength increases by 300%, in comparison with plasticized epoxy composite that does not contain MWCNTs.

We show that KRAS-driven lung tumoursphere-derived cells exhibit stemness features and increased IKKβ kinase activity. IKKβ targeting by different approaches reduces the expression of stemness-associated genes, tumoursphere formation, and self-renewal, and preferentially impairs the proliferation of KRAS-driven lung tumoursphere-derived cells. Moreover, we show that IKKβ targeting reduces tumour cell migration and invasion, potentially by regulating both expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2).     Retrospective review of patients undergoing eyelid retraction repair using the bilayer dermal regenerative matrix from 2005 to 2019. Nineteen eyelid surgeries from 15 patients were identified. Collected data included patient demographics, symptoms, preoperative/postoperative lower eyelid position, inferior scleral show, lagophthalmos, etiology of retraction, history of prior retraction surgeries, major/minor complications, and follow-up duration (minimum 6 months). Postoperative measurements were taken at a minimum of 1 week, 3-6 weeks, 2-4 months, and 6 months.

    Postoperatively, 90% of cases had good improvement of lower eyelid retraction (defined as 1 mm or less below the inferior limbus). Postoperative elevation of the lower eyelid ranged 1-3.5 mm compared with preoperative measurements. When used in the upper eyelid for conjunctival scarring, the implant improved the superior fornix depth.

In this computerized task, humans make visual discriminations, and probabilistic contingencies are arranged such that correct responses to one alternative are rewarded more often (rich) than correct responses to the other (lean). Healthy participants consistently develop a response bias in favor of the rich alternative. However, participants with MDD typically exhibit lower response biases, and this blunting correlates with current and future anhedonia. The present studies validated a touchscreen-based PRT in rodents with formal and functional similarity to the human task. First, rats were trained to discriminate between two lines that differed in length. Next, parametric manipulations of probabilistic contingencies, line-length stimuli, and drug treatment (amphetamine, 0.32-3.2 mg/kg; scopolamine, 0.1-1.0 mg/kg; oxycodone, 0.1-1.0 mg/kg) on response bias were evaluated. Results demonstrated orderly shifts in bias and discriminability that varied as a function of, respectively, the asymmetry of rich/lean probabilities and disparity in line lengths. Drugs that enhance reward responsiveness (amphetamine and scopolamine, but not oxycodone) increased bias, verifying pharmacological task sensitivity. Finally, performance outcomes under optimized conditions were replicated in female rats.
