  • The transport of weaned calves from ***-calf producers to fatteners is a general concern for the young bull industry due to its documented negative impact on the welfare, health and performance of the animals. These transfers are often managed by intermediaries who transport weaned calves to sorting centres, where they are grouped into batches before being sent to fattening units. In this study, we present an algorithm to limiting these transfer distances by appropriately selecting the sorting centre through which they must go. We tested the effectiveness of this algorithm on historical data from a French beef producer organization managing 136,892 transfers using 13 sorting centres. The results show a decrease in the transfer distances compared to the historical record, especially for the calves travelling over long distances (- 76 km, i.e. 18% on average for the 33% longest transfers). Moreover, the distribution of calves between the sorting centres proposed by the algorithm reveals differences in their efficiency in minimizing transfer distances. In addition to its usefulness as a management tool for the daily transport of cattle, this algorithm provides prospects for improving the management of the sorting centres themselves.To obtain deeper insights into the tactile processing pathway from a population-level point of view, we have modeled three stages of the tactile pathway from the periphery to the cortex in response to indentation and scanned edge stimuli at different orientations. Three stages in the tactile pathway are, (1) the first-order neurons which innervate the cutaneous mechanoreceptors, (2) the cuneate nucleus in the midbrain and (3) the cortical neurons of the somatosensory area. In the proposed network, the first layer mimics the spiking patterns generated by the primary afferents. These afferents have complex skin receptive fields. In the second layer, the role of lateral inhibition on projection neurons in the cuneate nucleus is investigated. This study aims to verify if circulating cytokines may serve as a proxy for non-invasive identification of sensitive prognostic biomarkers reflecting tumour and its microenvironment. Immunohistochemistry was used to measure PD-L1 expression in tumour tissue sections of 148 chemonaïve breast cancer (**) patients. The panel of 51 cytokines was analysed using multiplex bead arrays. High PD-L1 expression in tumours was associated with shorter progression-free survival (HR 3.25; 95% CI 1.39-7.61; P = 0.006) and low circulating levels of three multifunctional molecules; VEGF, TNF-β and IL-15 (P = 0.001). In multivariate analysis, patients with low VEGF had 4.6-fold increased risk of PD-L1 overexpression (P = 0.008), present in 76.5% of patients with all these three cytokines below the median (vs. 35.6% among the others; P = 0.002). The area under the curve value of 0.722 (95% CI 0.59-0.85; P = 0.004) shows that this combination of cytokines has a moderate ability to discriminate between PD-L1 high vs. PD-L1 low patients. Plasma cytokines, therefore, could serve as potential non-invasive biomarkers for the identification of high-risk ** cases.A highly sensitive bismuth/silver nanoparticles/Nafion-modified screen-printed graphene electrode was fabricated and was utilized for the detection of trace lead (Pb) concentrations in river water samples prior to and after remediation using calamansi (Citrofortunella Microcarpa) rinds in different forms viz., ground sun-dried, dry-ashed, food-grade pectin, fractionated pectin, and alcohol insoluble solids-extracted pectin. All these forms of pectin remediated Pb in the water samples. Hence, this novel method of using calamansi rinds in different forms is an effective method for the removal of lead in water. The electrode was characterized using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry which confirmed the presence of the modifiers on the electrode surface. The limit of detection of 267.6 ppt and the strong linear relationship between the Pb concentration and the anodic current response (R2 = 0.999) were obtained under optimized experimental conditions and parameters.Early identification of infection severity and organ dysfunction is crucial in improving outcomes of patients with sepsis. We aimed to develop a new combination of blood-based biomarkers that can early predict 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis or septic shock. We enrolled 66 patients with sepsis or septic shock and compared 14 blood-based biomarkers in the first 24 h after ICU admission. The serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) (median 217.6 vs. 4809.0 pg/ml, P = 0.001), lactate (median 2.4 vs. 6.3 mmol/L, P = 0.014), N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) (median 1596.5 vs. 32,905.3 ng/ml, P  less then  0.001), prothrombin time (PT) (median 15.6 vs. 20.1 s, P = 0.030), activated partial thrombin time (APTT) (median 45.1 vs. 59.0 s, P = 0.026), and international normalized ratio (INR) (median 1.3 vs. 1.8, P less then 0.001) were significantly lower in the survivor group. IL-6, NT-proBNP, and INR provided the best individual performance in predicting 28-day mortality of patients with sepsis or septic shock.

  • In short words, information hidden in SNP genotypes can be extracted in efficient ways to make precise diagnoses for complex diseases.Saliva omics has immense potential for non-invasive diagnostics, including monitoring very young or elderly populations, or individuals in remote locations. In this study, multiple saliva omics from an individual were monitored over three periods (100 timepoints) involving (1) hourly sampling over 24 h without intervention, (2) hourly sampling over 24 h including immune system activation using the standard 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine, (3) daily sampling for 33 days profiling the post-vaccination response. At each timepoint total saliva transcriptome and proteome, and small RNA from salivary extracellular vesicles were profiled, including mRNA, miRNA, piRNA and bacterial RNA. The two 24-h periods were used in a paired analysis to remove daily variation and reveal vaccination responses. Over 18,000 omics longitudinal series had statistically significant temporal trends compared to a healthy baseline. Various immune response and regulation pathways were activated following vaccination, including interferon and cytokine signaling, and ****antigen presentation. In these experiments, we examine multiple routes by which bacterial cellular components can enter the fetus and the fetal response to influx of bacterial DNA and protein. We inoculated maternal sheep with genetically-labeled S. aureus (Staphylococcus aureus) using three routes intravenously, orally, and intra-vaginally. The inoculum did not produce sepsis or fever in the ewes, therefore mimicking incidental exposure to bacteria during pregnancy. 3-5 days post inoculation, we assessed the presence of bacterial components in the fetal tissues and analyzed fetal brain tissue to identify any alterations in gene expression. Our results demonstrate that components of bacteria that were introduced into the maternal mouth were detected in the fetal brain and that they stimulated changes in gene expression. We conclude that an oral route of transmission is relevant for transfer of bacterial cellular components to the fetus.(R-)miniCHOP therapy, which delivers approximately half-doses of the (R-)CHOP regimen, has shown efficacy and safety in patients who are more than 80 years old. This study aimed to compare the area under the plasma concentration-time curves (AUCs) of vincristine (VCR), doxorubicin (DXR), and cyclophosphamide (CPA) between (R-)CHOP and (R-)miniCHOP regimens. The AUCs were compared between patients aged 65-79 years receiving (R-)CHOP therapy and those aged 80 years and older receiving (R-)miniCHOP therapy. Age was not an independent variable for predicting the dose-adjusted AUCs (AUC/Ds) of cytotoxic anticancer drugs. The median AUCs of DXR and CPA were significantly smaller in the (R-)miniCHOP group than in the (R-)CHOP group (168.7 vs. 257.9 ng h/mL, P = 0.003, and 219.9 vs. 301.7 µg h/mL, P = 0.020, respectively). The median AUCs of VCR showed the same trend but the difference was not significant (24.83 vs. 34.85 ng h/mL, P = 0.135). Here, we found that fucoxanthin, one of the major components of Phaeodactylum tricornutum, has an inhibitory effect on NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by the combination of LPS and ATP in bone marrow-derived immune cells as well as astrocytes. Fucoxanthin, which is abundant in the EtOH fraction of Phaeodactylum tricornutum extracts, has shown to have less cell toxicity and found to decrease the production of major pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Fucoxanthin has also shown to suppress the expression of cleaved caspase-1 and the oligomerization of ASC, which are the main components of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Furthermore, phosphorylated IκBα and pro-IL-1β expression decreased in the presence of fucoxanthin, suggesting that fucoxanthin can negatively regulate the priming step of inflammasome signaling. Thus, our results provide reliable evidence that fucoxanthin may serve as a key candidate in the development of potential therapeutic agents for inflammatory diseases as well as neurodegenerative diseases caused by NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

Policy makers, commissioners, managers, and educators can use the findings to inform continuing professional development priorities and provision for the gerontological workforce.Coastal marine vegetation has been recently highlighted for its highly efficient carbon storage capacity. Among the sixty-four species of seagrass, Posidonia oceanica, a Mediterranean endemic species, appears to be the most effective in carbon fixation and storage. Based on new data from the study of one of the largest P. oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean Sea (100 km of coastline, 20 425 ha), and a synthesis of available data from the whole of the Mediterranean basin, the aim of this work is to evaluate the amount of carbon fixed each year by P. oceanica and sequestered in the matte, in relation with the mitigation of the impact of climate change (carbon sink). The mean total carbon fixation (blades, sheaths and rhizomes) per year varies between 33.5 and 426.6 g C.m-2 and the mean carbon sequestration (long-term sink in the matte), corresponding to the sheath and rhizome tissues, varies between 7.7 and 84.4 g C.m-2, with a clear decreasing trend according to depth because of the meadow density decrease. The synthesis of a hundred measurements made throughout the Mediterranean Sea and at depths between 0.5 and 32.0 m provides a basis for estimating the average annual carbon fixation and sequestration rate throughout the Mediterranean basin. The fixation of the blades is estimated at 1 024 t C.ha-1.yr-1, that of the sheaths at 220 t C ha-1.yr-1 and that of the rhizomes at 58 t C ha-1.yr-1; i.e. a total fixation rate of 1 302 t C ha-1.yr-1 and sequestration rate (dead sheaths and rhizomes) of 278 t C ha-1.yr-1. This annual carbon fixation represents only 0.61% on average of CO2 emissions/releases for all Mediterranean countries but in the large Mediterranean islands this fixation is on average 3.1% and can reach almost 14.4% for Corsica. Moreover, the major advantage of the P. oceanica meadow lies in its capacity to store carbon from annual carbon sequestration for centuries to millennia and can be compared to several terrestrial ecosystems considered to be efficient in carbon storage (peatlands).The current study investigated the effect of environmentally relevant mixtures of estrogens at levels representative of receiving waters on the metabolome of the Sydney rock oyster, Saccostrea glomerata. Oysters were exposed to a "low" and a "high" mixture of (xeno) estrogens (representative of Australian and global receiving waters respectively) for 7 days and digestive gland, gill, and gonad tissue were sampled for quantification of polar metabolites by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Exposure to both mixtures lowered body mass and altered the metabolite profile in the digestive glands. Comparatively, gills, and ovaries demonstrated lesser sensitivity to the mixtures, with significant metabolomic alterations observed only for the high mixture. The male gonad did not respond to either estrogenic exposure. In the responsive tissues, major metabolites including amino acids, carbohydrates, intermediates of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and ATP were all down-regulated and exhibited tissue-specific patterns of down-regulation with the greatest proportion of metabolites down-regulated due to estrogenic exposure in the digestive gland. For pure biomass, the least CNTs yield with ultrafine diameters of 3.9-8.5 nm was generated via disproportionation reaction of CO which was derived from decarboxylation and decarbonylation of oxygenates on the ZSM-5 acid sites. With the rise of plastic ratio, sufficient hydrocarbons were produced for CNTs growth, endowing CNTs with long and straight tube walls, along with uniform diameters (~16 nm). The CNTs yield increased as high as 139 mg/g-cata. In addition, the decreased CO2 inhibited dry reforming with C1-C4 hydrocarbons and deposited carbon, avoiding excessive etching of CNTs. Thereby, high-purity CNTs with less defects were fabricated when plastic ratio was beyond 50% in the feedstock. Among the sixty-four species of seagrass, Posidonia oceanica, a Mediterranean endemic species, appears to be the most effective in carbon fixation and storage. Based on new data from the study of one of the largest P. oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean Sea (100 km of coastline, 20 425 ha), and a synthesis of available data from the whole of the Mediterranean basin, the aim of this work is to evaluate the amount of carbon fixed each year by P. oceanica and sequestered in the matte, in relation with the mitigation of the impact of climate change (carbon sink). The mean total carbon fixation (blades, sheaths and rhizomes) per year varies between 33.5 and 426.6 g C.m-2 and the mean carbon sequestration (long-term sink in the matte), corresponding to the sheath and rhizome tissues, varies between 7.7 and 84.4 g C.m-2, with a clear decreasing trend according to depth because of the meadow density decrease. The synthesis of a hundred measurements made throughout the Mediterranean Sea and at depths between 0.5 and 32.0 m provides a basis for estimating the average annual carbon fixation and sequestration rate throughout the Mediterranean basin.   • The optimal route for dexamethasone (DEX) administration regimen for patients undergoing primary TKA has not been investigated. This study aims to determine whether intravenous and topical DEX provide different clinical effects in patients with TKA.

    In this double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial, 90 patients undergoing primary TKA were randomized to intravenous DEX group (n= 45) or topical DEX group (n= 45, DEX applied in anesthetic cocktail for periarticular injection). The primary outcome was postoperative VAS pain score and morphine consumption. Secondary outcomes were included knee swelling, knee flexion, and extension angle, Knee Society Score (KSS), and postoperative hospital stays. Tertiary outcomes assessed the blood-related metrics, including inflammatory biomarkers and fibrinolysis parameters. Finally, nausea and vomiting and other adverse events were compared.

Our analysis also found that relative food insecurity was more strongly related to mental health and wellbeing where the prevalence of food insecurity was lower. The findings underscore the negative health consequences of material deprivation and unfavourable social comparisons. Consistent with relative deprivation theory, individuals who live with constant worries about not getting enough food, have to skip meals, or face chronic hunger are deprived of material and social resources that support mental health and wellbeing, especially in settings where food insecurity is less common and potentially more stigmatised. The implications of these findings for global food policy and surveillance efforts are discussed.
    Multiple repetition of self-harm is common and is associated with poor quality of life and with an increased risk of suicide. Treatment outside specialist clinics rarely takes account of what is known about the varied and conflicting reasons for multiple repetition. We aimed to identify ways in which individuals who self-harm make sense of their motivations for repetition.

    In 2018/2019 we recruited 59 participants from NHS services, support organizations in England and via social media into a Q-methodology study. Participants sorted, ranked and commented on 46 separate functions of self-harm according to whether they agreed or disagreed with them as reasons for their own self-harm. The functions were identified from a range of academic sources and first-person accounts.

    Principal Component Analysis was used to identify four distinct accounts for repeated self-harm 1) Managing my mental state, 2) Communicating Distress, 3) Distract from suicidal thoughts or feelings and 4) Producing positive feelings. There were no clear links between account and gender or other respondent characteristic, although those who self-harmed most regularly and frequently ('so many times I've lost count') were mostly in Accounts 1 and 4.

    This is the first study to use Q methodology to explore reasons for repeated self-harm. The accounts identified can help in personalizing therapy by going beyond models that focus on a single function such as affect regulation or experiential avoidance, while reducing the field to a manageable number of points of view that can be explored in therapy.

However, when i.v. access is not attainable or readily available, the inhalation route of ketamine administration via breath-actuated nebulizer (BAN) provides a noninvasive and titratable method of analgesic delivery. The use of nebulized ketamine has been studied in areas of postoperative management of sore throat and acute traumatic musculoskeletal and abdominal pain.     The aim of the present study was to evaluate the expression of inflammasome and cytokine on experimental periodontitis with super activated platelet lysate (SPL) in rats.

    Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent articular disorder and has no entirely satisfactory treatment. Punicalagin (PUG) is a polyphenol which has shown multiple pharmacological effects on various diseases. However, the role of PUG in the treatment of OA has not been well defined.

    The effects of PUG on anti-oxidative stress, anti-apoptosis, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and autophagy were evaluated in chondrocytes through Western blot and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. Meanwhile, the effects of PUG on destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) model were also assessed in vivo by performing histopathologic analysis and IF staining.

    In vitro, PUG treatment not only increased the level of HO-1 and SOD1 against oxidative stress but also suppressed the expression of apoptotic proteins and inhibited ECM degradation. Punicalagin (PUG) is a polyphenol which has shown multiple pharmacological effects on various diseases. However, the role of PUG in the treatment of OA has not been well defined. The effects of PUG on anti-oxidative stress, anti-apoptosis, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and autophagy were evaluated in chondrocytes through Western blot and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. Meanwhile, the effects of PUG on destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) model were also assessed in vivo by performing histopathologic analysis and IF staining. In vitro, PUG treatment not only increased the level of HO-1 and SOD1 against oxidative stress but also suppressed the expression of apoptotic proteins and inhibited ECM degradation. They were 80% male, 74.2% at CDC stage A-B, 93.7% with undetectable HIV-viral load. Mean age was 46.7±10.7 years, body mass index was 25.0±3.9 kg/m , median CD4 cell count was 634 cell/µL (interquartile range [IQR]=439-900), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was 23 (IQR=19-30) IU/L, and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was 24 (IQR=17-34) IU/L.   • The main objective of this work was to investigate the root cause(s) of the various diseases in the local population, living in the proximity of chromium mining area. The analytical work was done on the samples of drinking water, soil and human blood, collected from the study area. The chosen study area is known as Muslim Bagh, located in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. The area is well-known for chromite hub. The hub comprises about 325 open-cast and underground mines, 100 dumping sites and 11 chrome beneficiation plants. The presented investigation is the first report of its nature on the contamination of heavy metals (HM) in the samples of drinking water and soil of the study area. The traces of different HM were also found in the random blood samples of human population in the study area. The amount of Co, Ni, Pb, As and Cr in the soil samples of the study area was obtained in the range of 990 × 103-1837 × 103, 1 × 103-11 × 103, 1 × 103-15 × 103, 84 × 103-187 × 103 and 6.9 × 106-19.5 × 106 (μg/kg ppb), respectively, whereas the samples of drinking water of the area found were 199-997 Co, 40-1370 Ni, 30-740 Pb, 47-890 As and 1990-13,530 (μg/kg ppb) of Cr. The obtained data of the physiochemical properties and the amount of HM show that the available drinking water sources are unfit for human consumption, mainly because of the chromium amount. Questionnaire analysis of the local population was also revealed that there was no awareness or feeling about metal poisoning in the targeted people and had no idea about the metal contaminations and diseases caused by this. Human health risk assessment for both carcinogenic and non-carcinogens concludes that the children and adults of the area are at high risk of several diseases and disorders.A novel eco-friendly molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was proposed as solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent to selective adsorption tylosin (TYL) in animal muscle samples. The MIP was synthesized in aqueous by using 1,4-butanediyl-3,3-bis-1-vinyl imidazolium chloride and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid as bifunctional monomer. The obtained MIP had excellent selectivity towards TYL in water, and the maximum binding capacity can reach 123.45 mg g-1. The system was built based on two key subsystems namely 'Scheffler concentrator-based vapour system' and 'ejector-based cooling system'. The pilot effort showed promising results with the probability of energy-saving potential as near 70 to 80% over conventional air conditioners.The plant association of Populus alba L. 'Villafranca', Brassica oleracea var. acephala sebellica (kale), and B. oleracea var. capitata 'sonsma' (cabbage) was exposed to Zn, Cd, and exogenous caffeine (13CFN)-contaminated water under growth chamber conditions. In the short term of treatment (15 days), poplar increased the root dry biomass (+ 25%) and decreased the chlorophyll content in new leaves (- 32%), compared to control. On the contrary, cabbage decreased the root dry biomass, enhancing the shoot dry biomass (+ 50%). Heavy metals were mainly concentrated in plant roots and in poplar reached the highest concentrations of 705 ± 232.6 and 338 ± 85.5 μg g-1 DW for Zn and Cd, respectively. The ability of poplar to accumulate more Zn and Cd than kale and cabbage in plant biomass was confirmed by heavy metal contents, following the order poplar > kale = cabbage. We have employed a relatively comprehensive proxy, i.e., ecological footprint for environmental sustainability and more advanced and robust econometric strategies (second-generation) to examine the impact of globalization, financial development, and energy utilization on environmental sustainability in the GCC countries, which have a significant departure from the extant literature. The results of this study show that globalization, financial development, and energy utilization are significantly deteriorating the environmental quality in the GCC countries. Additionally, in order to account for the national heterogeneity, we have performed country-specific analysis and interestingly, results reveal that globalization, financial development, and energy utilization negatively influence the environmental sustainability in each sample country that is consistent with the findings of overall panel.

    To evaluate test performance of digital (DSTP) and optical (OSTP) serum total protein (STP) refractometers and a digital Brix (DBRIX) refractometer for assessment of passive immunity in beef calves.

    A total of 398 beef calves from 6 herds, 1 to 7 days of age.

    Serum IgG concentration was estimated by DSTP, OSTP, and DBRIX, and measured by radial immunodiffusion (RID). Correlation coefficients (r) among results were calculated. Optimal STP and Brix thresholds for identification of IgG <10, <16, and <24 g/L were determined using interval likelihood ratios. Refractometer performance and agreement were assessed using areas under the curve (AUC), diagnostic test characteristics, Cohen's kappa (κ), and Bland-Altman analysis.

    Refractometer results were highly correlated with RID (r = 0.82-0.91) and with each other (r = 0.91-0.95), and overall test performance was excellent (AUC = 0.93-0.99). The STP concentrations of ≤5.1, ≤5.1, and ≤5.7 g/dL and Brix percentages of ≤7.9%, ≤8.3%, and ≤8.7% indicated IgG concentrations <10, <16, and <24 g/L, respectively. Agreement of refractometers with RID was variable (κ = 0.46-0.80) and among refractometers was substantial (κ = 0.62-0.89).

A new heart transplantation allocation system was implemented in the United States on October 18, 2018. The effect of the new allocation system on adult congenital patients is unknown. Adult congenital patients listed for transplantation between November 1, 2015 and September 30, 2019 registered in the United Network for Organ Sharing were included in the study. October 18, 2018 was used as the limit to distribute listed and transplanted patients into old and new groups. A total of 399 patients were listed for heart transplant only, 284 in the old system and 115 in the new system. Clinical characteristics were similar between both groups. The cumulative incidence of poor outcome on the transplant list was similar in both groups (P = .23), but the cumulative incidence of transplant was higher in the new system group (P less then .009) and was associated with a shorter waitlist time. The one-year post-transplant outcome was similar between old and new groups (P = .37). The new allocation system has benefited adult congenital patients with increased cumulative frequency of transplantation without worsening short-term survival after transplantation.

    This study is a descriptive study on verifying the relation between blood lead, mercury, cadmium level, and subcategories of metabolic syndrome. A total of 823 respondents' data of 19~29years were sampled of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2016 conducted under the National Health Promotion Law.

    To identify the predictive risk factors of metabolic syndromes, the subcategories of metabolic syndromes and the lead, mercury, and cadmium levels were analyzed using logistic regression. Pearson's correlation was used to identify correlations among the factors.

    An analysis of the correlations among the metabolic syndromes and blood levels of lead, mercury, and cadmium showed significant relationships between blood lead level and systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, waist circumference, and triglyceride level; also between blood mercury level and waist measurement and triglyceride level; and between blood cadmium level and waist circumference and triglyceride level (p<.05).

Here, we extended that work by coupling a mesenchymal stromal cell-laden hydrogel (methacrylated hyaluronic acid) with the porous polycaprolactone (PCL) bone integrating phase and assessed the composition and mechanical performance of these constructs over time. To improve initial construct stability, PCL/hydrogel interface parameters were first optimized by varying PCL pretreatment (with sodium hydroxide before ethanol) before hydrogel infusion. Next, cylindrical osteochondral constructs were formed and cultured in media containing transforming growth factor β3 for up to 8 weeks, with constructs evaluated for viability, histological features, and biochemical content. Mechanical properties were also assessed in axial compression and via an interface shear strength assay. Results showed that the fabrication process was compatible with cell viability, and that construct biochemical content and mechanical properties increased with time. Interestingly, compressive properties peaked at 5 weeks, while interfacial shear properties continued to improve beyond this time point. Finally, these fabrication methods were combined with a custom mold developed from limb-specific computed tomography imaging data to create an anatomic implantable cell-seeded biologic joint surface, which showedmaturation similar to the osteochondral cylinders. October 18, 2018 was used as the limit to distribute listed and transplanted patients into old and new groups. A total of 399 patients were listed for heart transplant only, 284 in the old system and 115 in the new system. Clinical characteristics were similar between both groups. The cumulative incidence of poor outcome on the transplant list was similar in both groups (P = .23), but the cumulative incidence of transplant was higher in the new system group (P less then .009) and was associated with a shorter waitlist time. The one-year post-transplant outcome was similar between old and new groups (P = .37). Here, we extended that work by coupling a mesenchymal stromal cell-laden hydrogel (methacrylated hyaluronic acid) with the porous polycaprolactone (PCL) bone integrating phase and assessed the composition and mechanical performance of these constructs over time. To improve initial construct stability, PCL/hydrogel interface parameters were first optimized by varying PCL pretreatment (with sodium hydroxide before ethanol) before hydrogel infusion. Next, cylindrical osteochondral constructs were formed and cultured in media containing transforming growth factor β3 for up to 8 weeks, with constructs evaluated for viability, histological features, and biochemical content. Mechanical properties were also assessed in axial compression and via an interface shear strength assay. Results showed that the fabrication process was compatible with cell viability, and that construct biochemical content and mechanical properties increased with time. Interestingly, compressive properties peaked at 5 weeks, while interfacial shear properties continued to improve beyond this time point. Finally, these fabrication methods were combined with a custom mold developed from limb-specific computed tomography imaging data to create an anatomic implantable cell-seeded biologic joint surface, which showedmaturation similar to the osteochondral cylinders. We reviewed 800 newly diagnosed MCL cases and found 22 primary (2.8%) and 79 (9.9%) secondary GI MCL cases. Age, sex, and performance status were similar between primary and secondary cases. Secondary cases had more elevations in lactate dehydrogenase (28% vs 0%, P = 0.03) and a trend for a higher MCL international prognostic index (P = 0.07). Observation or local therapy was more common for primary GI MCL (29% vs 8%, P  less then  0.01), and autologous stem-cell transplant was more common for secondary GI MCL (35% vs 14%, P  less then  0.05). The median follow-up was 85 months. Primary and secondary GI MCL had similar 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) (30% vs 28%, P = 0.59) and overall survival (OS) (65% vs 66%, P = 0.83). Further, on the basis of colony forming ability, one finds that drug-resistant A549/GR cells with improved CXCR4 expression exhibited more resistance to IR than A549 cells evidenced along with a reduction in the formation of γ-H2AX foci after IR. Transfection of shRNA against CXCR4 or treatment of pharmacological inhibitor (AMD3100) both led to sensitization of A549/GR cells towards IR. Conversely, the overexpression of CXCR4 in A549 and H460 cell lines was found to improve clonogenic survival, and reduce the formation of γ-H2AX foci after IR.   • To summarize all relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and provide precise effect estimates of glycaemic efficacy/safety of faster-acting insulin aspart administered by injection as compared to insulin aspart in people with diabetes mellitus.

    PubMed/Cochrane Library were systematically searched till October 10, 2020, to identify RCTs with duration ≥16weeks, evaluating efficacy/safety of mealtime injections of faster aspart compared to insulin aspart in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Studies using faster aspart as continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion were excluded. Continuous and dichotomous outcome variables (expressed as estimated treatment difference and rate ratio in RCTs, respectively) were pooled using generic inverse variance method with fixed/random-effects model. For each outcome variable, subgroup analysis between type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus was performed.

    We included five RCTs; three of type 1 diabetes mellitus (n=1963) and two of type 2 diabetes mellitus (n=1780). All had low risk of bias. Faster aspart was associated with small but significant improvement in HbA

    α-lactalbumin (α-La) is of great interest to the industry as a result of its excellent functional properties and nutritional value. Aqueous two-phase flotation (ATPF) of thermo-sensitive polymer poly (ethylene glycol-ran-propylene glycol) monobutyl ether (UCON) and KH

    was applied to directly separate and purify α-La from milk whey, which was purposed to simplify the production process and reduced cost of production.

    The effect of ATPF composition and operating parameters on the flotation efficiency (E) and purity of α-La were investigated. The optimal conditions included 2 min of premixing time, 30 mL min
    flow velocity and 20 min of flotation time, whereas the composition conditions comprised 35.0 mL 0.18 g mL
    phosphate solution (containing 10% (*** milk whey/salt solution, v/v) *** milk whey, 50 ppm defoamer and 2 g NaCl) and 5.0 mL of 40% (w/w) UCON solution. Under the optimal conditions, E of α-La was 95.67 ± 1.04% and purity of α-La was 98.78 ± 1.19%. UCON was recovered by a thermally-induced phase separation and reused in next ATPF process without reducing E of α-La. Purified α-La was characterized by several key technologies. The results indicated that α-La in *** milk whey could be directly separated and purified by the ATPF and the purity was satisfactory. Moreover, it was suggested there was no obvious structure difference between the α-La separated by ATPF and the α-La standard.

    The optimal timing of delivery for twin pregnancies remains controversial. This study examined the risks of adverse neonatal outcomes and neonatal deaths according to gestational age at delivery in order to determine the optimal gestational age of delivery for twin pregnancies.

    This is a retrospective study of twin pregnancies delivered between 34 and 40weeks of gestation from 1995 to 2000 in the United States. The primary outcomes evaluated were neonatal morbidity and mortality. The composite outcome of neonatal morbidity included the following variables Apgar score lower than 7 at 5minutes, assisted ventilation <30minutes, assisted ventilation ≥30minutes, hyaline membrane disease, meconium aspiration syndrome, neonatal seizures, birth injury, anaemia, and congenital malformations. Logistic regressions were applied to calculate adjusted odds ratios of the adverse outcomes according to the gestational week at delivery, with either individual twins or twin pairs as the unit of analysis.

We summarized the evidence on the determinants of seasonal influenza vaccine uptake during pregnancy to better understand factors that influence vaccine uptake among pregnant women.

Logistic regressions were applied to calculate adjusted odds ratios of the adverse outcomes according to the gestational week at delivery, with either individual twins or twin pairs as the unit of analysis. We summarized the evidence on the determinants of seasonal influenza vaccine uptake during pregnancy to better understand factors that influence vaccine uptake among pregnant women. One reviewer extracted data and assessed study quality, and another reviewer checked extracted data and study quality assessments for errors.
