The purpose of this study was to assess the role of extemporaneous examination in the management of patients with parotid gland tumors. We report a pro and retrospective analytical study of a series of cases of salivary gland tumors, whose data were collected in the ENT and in the department of cervical-facial Surgery at the University Hospital in Casablanca, between January 2012 and December 2015. Seventy two cases of parotid tumors were recorded. The sex-ratio (H/F) was 0.94, 0.76 for patients with benign tumors and 1.62 for patients with malignant tumors. The average age was 47 years (15- 75 years). The median of consultation time was 40 months. Clinical symptoms were dominated by parotid swelling (100%), pain in 25% of patients, facial palsy in 6%, and cervical adenopathies in 10%. Ultrasound was recommended in 80% of patients. MRI was performed in 26% of cases. All patients underwent surgery, 76% of patients underwent exofacialt. Currently, MRI is the imaging test of choice. Extemporaneous examinationis is very useful intraoperatively when it is necessary to communicate with the pathologist. Multidisciplinary approach is adopted including ENT, oncological, radiotherapeutic, pathological and radiological approaches. Prognosis depends on the histological type, the stage of progression and treatment.

The study involved a 29-year-old female patient on breast cancer treatment scheduled to receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, hospitalized for acute severe hepatitis (fever with jaundice, hypertransaminasemia (normal AST level 47 and normal ALT level 23 and prothrombin activity 25%). The test for viral hepatitis A, B, C, and E was negative and subhepatic veins were free on doppler. Non-alphabetical hepatitis was suspected based on fever with jaundice. Patient's assessment showed recent EBV infection diagnosed on the basis of the presence of anti-VAC IgM/G and anti-EBNA Ab IgG. The patient received acyclovir for 10 days. Progression was marked by ascites. The diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis was retained based on laboratory tests (gamma peak on serum protein electrophoresis and positive anti-nuclear antibodies) and histological examination. Clinical-biological remission was obtained with corticosteroid therapy. EBV infections should be investigated in immunocompromised patients with fever in the clinical course of acute hepatitis. Practitioners should also suspect it in patients with persistent cytolysis following an infectious episode in order to prevent the occurrence of autoimmune hepatitis, in particular in female patients, in a context of self-immunity and negative serological tests for alphabetical viral hepatitis.

Developing structurally stable sorbents for high-temperature H2S direct removal is recognized as a valuable energy-saving strategy for efficient utilization of hot coal gas (HCG), which depends upon their mesoporous features and desulfurization capabilities. Herein, tailored hierarchical CaxCuyMnzOi/MAS-9 sorbents were fabricated via a facile sol-gel method using high-activity phase CaxCuyMnzOi anchored onto versatile mesoporous MAS-9. To investigate the mechanisms that control ** pattern apparition, distribution of the two components inside the dried droplet was investigated using FTIR. CNC and AX were found to be homogenously deposited and CNC self-assembly induces nanoparticles orientation in the CR deposit. We demonstrate that the increase of concentration during drying induces gelation of CNC/AX mixture leading to ** pattern apparition. We take advantage of the apparition of ** pattern to develop a novel catalytic activity detection assay based on the variation of viscosity. Indeed, addition of Endo-1,4-β-Xylanase (Xyl) addition to a suspension containing CNC/AX complex leads to hydrolysis of AX that decrease in droplet viscosity leading to ** disappearance. The enzymatic detection assay is thus simple, easy to handle, fast, sensitive and do not require complex analytical devices.2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) is a typical chlorophenol that has been widely used in industrial production and caused serious pollution to the environment. In this study, the performance of Fe/Ni bimetallic nanoparticles supported on polystyrene cation exchange resin (Fe/Ni-D072) to remove 2,4-DCP was evaluated. The effects including the doping amount of Ni, the dosage of Fe/Ni-DCP, the initial concentration of 2,4-DCP, and pH value of the solution on the removal efficiency were also investigated. The results showed that when the initial concentration of 2,4-DCP was 20 mg/L and pH = 7.3, 90% of 2,4-DCP could be dechlorinated by Fe/Ni-D072 (Ni% = 30 wt%, dosage 6.7 g/L) after 12 h reaction. The dechlorination process followed a pseudo-first-order model, and the reaction constant was 0.252 h-1. In addition, the effects of humic acid and common coexisting ions on dechlorination were studied. The results showed that humic acid with a low concentration (5 mg/L) and CO32- restrained the degradation of 2,4-DCP. The dechlorination products of 2,4-DCP were identified by HPLC and the result showed phenol was the main product with a slight amount of 2-CP as the dechlorination intermediate, and 4-CP was barely detected. These results suggest that Fe/Ni-D072 was a promising catalytic material for the removal of chlorophenol and has great application prospects in groundwater remediation.In China, the first and also the latest version of national childhood lead exposure control guidelines was issued by the National Health Commission in 2006, when the reference value of high blood lead exposure was set at 100 μg/L and lead poisoning was set at 200 μg/L. Lead exposure levels have been decreasing in China over the last few decades, with almost all blood lead concentrations in children under 7 years of age being under 100 μg/L in non-industrial areas. However, lead concentrations lower than 100 μg/L in blood in children are associated with neurodevelopmental deficits. Thus, if the reference value remains at a high level, a large percent of children with exposure levels that are high but lower than the current reference value will be diagnosed as 'safe' and be ignored. Thus, we appeal that the reference value should be lowered according to local actual exposure level. A more stringent reference value would give care givers, doctors, communities, and officials more opportunities to take action earlier.Solid wastes are generated from human activities which could cause damage to the ecological environment and human beings. In recent years, there has been extensive research on solid wastes utilized as precursors, aggregates, fibers, etc. to prepare the geopolymers, which has invariably been a research hotspot. This review classifies the solid wastes utilized for geopolymers into three main categories industrial waste, agricultural waste, and municipal waste. Accordingly, we systematically dissert solid wastes-based geopolymer from the perspectives of structure, properties, and application. The chemical composition, morphology, particle size, thermal conductivity, and other characteristics of solid wastes can trigger changes in the specific properties of geopolymers. On this account, solid wastes-based geopolymers have great potential in the domain of concrete, fireproof materials, impermeable materials, catalysts, adsorbents, and energy storage materials, etc. More importantly, geopolymers have obvious advantages in immobilizing heavy metals in solid wastes.

The anatomy of the articular surfaces has historically identified as major responsible for acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis (ACJO). On the other side, the almost 100% prevalence of ACJO in subjects over 50years old seems to suggest a multifactorial etiology. We compared ACJO between asymptomatic elderly monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins to investigate the influence of genetics and environmental factors.
Thirty pairs of twins [15MZ-15DZ; mean age (SD) 63.70 (3.31); range 53-72] were retrospectively enrolled. ACJO was evaluated on MRI through a 4-grade severity scale and ACJ configuration was assessed. Information regarding work activity were obtained. Heritability index was calculated.
The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) value of 0.868 (95% CI; 0.798 to 0.917). An ICC values of 0.889 (95% CI; 0.798 to 0.944) and 0.843 (95% CI, 0.712 to 0.920) were found in the MZ and DZ groups, respectively. The polychoric correlation was 0.857 in the MZ twins and 0.757 in the DZ twins. The calculated heritability index was 0.20 (20%), and the contribution of the shared environment (c2) and unique environment (e2) was 0.66 (66%) and 0.14 (14%), respectively. No relationship between job types and ACJO in both the total cohort (r=0.089; p=0.499) and in the monozygotic (r=0.247; p=0.187) and the dizygotic twin groups (r=-0.084; p=0.658) was found.
The role of genetics on ACJO accounts for only 20%; a specific anatomical configuration of the articular surfaces only partially acts on the development of joint osteoarthritis. Environmental factors have the greatest impact.

IV.The authors report the occurrence of pulsus alternans, a condition characterised by the alternance of pulses of higher and lower amplitude, in two dogs and one cat under general anaesthesia. The presence of an underlying cardiac disease was confirmed in the cat but not in either dog, which - based on history and clinical findings - had presumably normal cardiovascular function before the anaesthetic. Possible mechanisms, including negative inotropy and haemodynamic and Frank-Starling effects, as well as the role of general anaesthesia as the potential triggering factor, are discussed in this report. Ephedrine resulted in the successful treatment of pulsus alternans, as demonstrated by the return of normal pulse and synchronisation of heart and pulse rates in the cat and in one dog. In the other dog, pulse pattern and frequency returned to normal once the guidewire for central line placement was withdrawn.

An interventional prospective study was conducted over a 3-month period where GPs attended a 2-h training course. The 1st session taught clinical melanoma recognition and the 2nd session instructed basic knowledge of PSL. Prior to training, after the 1st, and after the 2nd session, GPs were asked to select the malignant or benign nature of 15 clinical images associated to their clinical history. In total, 56 GPs participated in this study. The number of GPs identifying correctly ≥ 50% of the melanomas increased the most after the 1st session from 15 (26.8%; CI = (15.2; 38.4)) to 44 (78.6%; CI = (67.8; 89.3)) GPs (P less then 0.001). The number of GPs correctly identifying ≥ 50% of the benign PSL only increased after completing the entire training, going from 10 (17.9%; CI = [(7.8; 27.9)) GPs to 50 (89.3%; CI = (81.2; 97.4)) GPs (P less then 0.001). In this study, GPs identified benign PSL most accurately after the 2nd session. This suggested that teaching GPs the basics of PSL would especially improve their diagnostic accuracy for benign PSL, which could reduce unnecessary referrals to dermatologists. The anatomy of the articular surfaces has historically identified as major responsible for acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis (ACJO). On the other side, the almost 100% prevalence of ACJO in subjects over 50years old seems to suggest a multifactorial etiology. We compared ACJO between asymptomatic elderly monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins to investigate the influence of genetics and environmental factors. Thirty pairs of twins [15MZ-15DZ; mean age (SD) 63.70 (3.31); range 53-72] were retrospectively enrolled. ACJO was evaluated on MRI through a 4-grade severity scale and ACJ configuration was assessed. Information regarding work activity were obtained. Heritability index was calculated. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) value of 0.868 (95% CI; 0.798 to 0.917). An ICC values of 0.889 (95% CI; 0.798 to 0.944) and 0.843 (95% CI, 0.712 to 0.920) were found in the MZ and DZ groups, respectively. The polychoric correlation was 0.857 in the MZ twins and 0.757 in the DZ twins. The calculated heritability index was 0.20 (20%), and the contribution of the shared environment (c2) and unique environment (e2) was 0.66 (66%) and 0.14 (14%), respectively. We aimed to investigate the changes of serum adiponectin and glycated albumin (GA) levels in gestational diabetes mellitus patients and their relationship with insulin resistance.
Overall, 137 pregnant women were enrolled from Jinan City People's Hospital, Laiwu District, China from Jan 2015 to Jun 2018. Among them, 71 pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus were examined as diabetes group, and 66 normal pregnant women as normal pregnant women group. In addition, 58 normal non-pregnant women of childbearing age who were examined in our hospital during the same period were selected as a control group. The serum adiponectin and GA levels of the three groups were compared, and the relationship between serum adiponectin, GA levels and insulin resistance was analyzed.

The 50-59 yr and 60-69 age groups represented more than half of the population. Obesity and underweight were significantly higher in female patients according to their actual Body mass index (BMI). Prevalence of underweight increased after cancer diagnosis, while obesity prevalence has decreased significantly. The malnutrition classification based on Mid-upper-arm muscle circumference (MUAMC) and the triceps skinfold thickness (TST) has shown a significant higher prevalence of malnutrition among male patients than females. The classification of Nutrition risk index (NRI) has shown a significant high percentage of male patients having malnutrition. In our study, no significant differences were recorded for biochemical tests. Anemia recorded the higher prevalences for both sex compared to other deficiency. Hypoironemia prevalence's was higher among male patients than females while hypokalemia and hypoproteinemia prevalence's were higher in female patients.

Disability is not just a health problem. It is a wider phenomenon that reflects the gap between a person's capacities and their ability to fully perform the role demanded by society. Both personal and environmental factors are major contributors to disability.
We aimed to estimate the prevalence of self-reported disability, overall and by sex, and associated factors in the Portuguese population in 2014.
This was a cross sectional study based on data from the Portuguese National Health Interview Survey (2014) (n=18,204). Long-term disability was evaluated based on the respondent reporting reasons for current disability lasting more than 6 months. Sex, age group, region, marital status, self-rated health, having or not health insurance, educational level, income, tobacco and alcohol consumption, physical activity and body mass index were considered as independent variables. A poisson model was performed to identify factors associated with disability.
Approximately 40% of the respondents reported having some long-term disability. Disability prevalence was higher in women than men (44.4% and 34.2%, respectively). Results showed age, region, education, self-rated health, physical activity and body mass index were associated with disability (p<0.05).
This study shows that along with personal factors, the context plays an important role in disability. We believe this piece of evidence emphasizes the factor context namely the region, when decision makers design disability related policies.

This study aimed to evaluate the role and effectiveness of vacuum drainage in the augmentation mammoplasty.
A prospective multicentric randomized comparative clinical trial was conducted with 150 patients, who were the candidates for breast augmentation. This study assessed whether engaging in nonmedical use of prescription stimulants for cognitive enhancement is a rational or a more spontaneous decision-making process.

A total of 15.9 % (n = 105) of the students had previously taken stimulants to improve their academic performance. The use of stimulants was significantly higher among males (22.4 %) than females (12.1 %). Positive attitudes toward stimulant use for cognitive enhancement were strongest related to students' intention to take stimulants for increasing their academic performance, followed by the norm of parents. Additionally, the more the students identified themselves with the prototype of a student using stimulants for cognitive enhancement, the more likely they were to be willing to misuse stimulants.
The findings suggest that using stimulants for cognitive enhancement is a rational choice rather than an unplanned one.

The role of surgical drainage in preventing complications on breast prostheses surgery is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the role and effectiveness of vacuum drainage in the augmentation mammoplasty. A prospective multicentric randomized comparative clinical trial was conducted with 150 patients, who were the candidates for breast augmentation. A survey was conducted among 661 students (63.5 % females, n = 420, M = 21.40). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. A total of 15.9 % (n = 105) of the students had previously taken stimulants to improve their academic performance. The use of stimulants was significantly higher among males (22.4 %) than females (12.1 %). Positive attitudes toward stimulant use for cognitive enhancement were strongest related to students' intention to take stimulants for increasing their academic performance, followed by the norm of parents. Additionally, the more the students identified themselves with the prototype of a student using stimulants for cognitive enhancement, the more likely they were to be willing to misuse stimulants. In this work, we propose a new representative electronegativity scale χDC based on a statistical analysis of 11 electronegativity scales associated with electric ionic resonance energy, ionization potential, electron affinity, polarizability, electric force, average orbital energy, chemical potential, electrochemical reduction potential, and electric potential energy. Among these scales, it is the new PE° electronegativity scale, which relates the reduction potential E° to Pauling's electronegativity scale. The scale χDC gives more weight to the physicochemical factors, which influence the electronegativity, but this scale is not necessarily the best electronegativity scale for the element. This Mini-Review focuses on the application of MHPs in the solar-driven hydrogen generation with particular emphasis on the materials' design and mechanistic features involved in the catalytic reactions.The property of the isonitrile group to enable the simultaneous α-addition of a strong electrophile and a nucleophile has always attracted the attention of organic chemists. Its versatility is augmented when recognizing that its high structural compactness, the inertia to most of the naturally occurring functional groups, and relatively prolonged physiological and metabolical stability, convert it into the smallest bioorthogonal group. The discovery and optimization of the isonitrile-tetrazine [4+1] cycloaddition as an alternative tool for the development of ligation and decaging strategies and the recently reported reaction of isonitriles with chlorooximes bring new opportunities for the utilization of this functional group in biological systems. Although several approaches have been reported for the synthesis of isonitrile-modified carbohydrates and polysaccharides, its incorporation in proteins has been barely explored. Besides compiling the reported methods for the assembly of isonitrile-modified proteins, this Mini-Review aims at calling attention to the real potential of this modification for protein ligation, decaging, immobilization, imaging, and many other applications at a low structural and functional cost.The interesting chemistry of manganese is due to its various oxidation states. The possibility of several oxidation states has offered the element a special position among the transition metal elements in the periodic table. Amidst the possible oxidation states of manganese (in the range of -3 to +7), the +2, +3, and +4 oxidation states are the most prevalent in nature. Manganese possesses the ability to form multiple bonds with oxygen through spontaneous oxidation to a variety of stoichiometric oxides/hydroxides/oxyhydroxides that are collectively coined as "manganese oxides". However, using the recent advances in the synthetic strategies and characterization techniques over the past couple of decades, the investigation of the physicochemical properties of manganese oxides has been extended up to the nanoscale dimensions beyond the molecular. Moreover, the family of the manganese oxides also includes a series of porous architectures that are, often, stabilized at the nanoscale dimensions. In recent years, there is an ongoing effort to derive catalytic chemistry involving main-group compounds, driven by their lower costs and higher terrestrial abundances. Here, a survey on the state-of-the-art in the development of cyanosilylation methodology by compounds with heavier main-group elements has been given. Once dominated by transition metals, the field has matured to embrace the majority of the main-group elements including aluminum, silicon, and calcium. Of particular focus will be how the mechanism of cyanosilylation involving compounds with main-group elements differs from those of transition metals.

Therefore, a profound understanding of the cellular origins of tumor lymphatics and the molecular mechanisms controlling their formation is required in order to improve current strategies to control malignant spread. Data accumulated over the last decades have led to a controversy regarding the cellular sources of tumor-associated lymphatic vessels and the putative contribution of non-endothelial cells to this process. Although it is widely accepted that lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) arise mainly from pre-existing lymphatic vessels, additional contribution from bone marrow-derived cells, myeloid precursors and terminally differentiated macrophages, has also been claimed. Here, we review recent findings describing new origins of LECs during embryonic development and discuss their relevance to cancer lymphangiogenesis.
The aim of this study is to report on the genetic composition of Brugada syndrome (BrS) patients undergoing genetic testing in Hong Kong.
Patients with suspected BrS who presented to the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong between 1997 and 2019, and underwent genetic testing, were analyzed retrospectively.
A total of 65 subjects were included (
= 65, 88% male, median presenting age 42 [30-54] years old, 58% type 1 pattern). Twenty-two subjects (34%) showed abnormal genetic test results, identifying the following six novel, pathogenic or likely pathogenic mutations in SCN5A c.674G > A, c.2024-11T > A, c.2042A > C, c.4279G > T, c.5689C > T, c.429del. Twenty subjects (31%) in the cohort suffered from spontaneous ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF) and 18 (28%) had incident VT/VF over a median follow-up of 83 [Q1-Q3 52-112] months. Univariate Cox regression demonstrated that syncope (hazard ratio [HR] 4.27 [0.95-19.30];
= 0.059), prior VT/VF (HR 21.34 [5.74-79.31;
< 0.0001) and T-wave axis (HR 0.970 [0.944-0.998];

The subjects performed 25 m of semi-tethered swimming with maximal effort with five progressive loads (females 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 kg and males 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 kg) as well as 50 m maximal front crawl on 2 different days. Eleven trained runners (6 men and 5 women) completed four evaluation sessions separated by at least 7 days. The first session consisted of a maximal incremental test where the second ventilatory threshold (VT

A cross-sectional study was undertaken in selected primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare settings between September, 2017 and December, 2018 in Islamabad, Pakistan. A structured data collection form was used to gather sociodemographic and clinical data of recruited patients. Binary logistic regression analyses were undertaken to determine association between regularity in treatment follow-up appointments and blood pressure control and to determine covariates significantly associated with regularity in treatment follow-up appointments.
A total of 662 patients with hypertension participated in the study. More than half 346 (52%) of the patients were females. The mean age of participants was 54 ± 12yea be developed and implemented, considering local needs, to improve attendance at treatment follow-up appointments.

However, conventional biological experiments are too costly and time-consuming to identify unconfirmed miRNA-disease associations. Thus, computational models predicting unidentified miRNA-disease pairs in an efficient way are becoming promising research topics. Although existing methods have performed well to reveal unidentified miRNA-disease associations, more work is still needed to improve prediction performance.
In this work, we present a novel multiple meta-paths fusion graph embedding model to predict unidentified miRNA-disease associations (M2GMDA). Our method takes full advantage of the complex structure and rich semantic information of miRNA-disease interactions in a self-learning way. First, a miRNA-disease heterogeneous network was derived from verified miRNA-disease pairs, miRNA similarity and disease similarity. All meta-path instances connecting miRNAs with diseases were extracted to descith lung neoplasms, breast neoplasms, prostate neoplasms, pancreatic neoplasms, lymphoma and colorectal neoplasms demonstrated that 47, 50, 49, 48, 50 and 50 out of the top 50 candidate miRNAs predicted by M2GMDA were validated by biological experiments. Therefore, it further confirms the prediction performance of our method.

The prognosis of hospitalized patients after emergent endotracheal intubation (ETI) remains poor. Our aim was to evaluate the 30-d hospitalization mortality of subjects undergoing ETI during daytime or off-hours and to analyze the possible risk factors affecting mortality.
A single-center retrospective study was performed at a university teaching facility from January 2015 to December 2018. All adult inpatients who received ETI in the general ward were included. Information on patient demographics, vital signs, ICU (Intensive care unit) admission, intubation time (daytime or off-hours), the department in which ETI was performed (surgical ward or medical ward), intubation reasons, and 30-d hospitalization mortality after ETI were obtained from a database.

Cerebral vasospasm is a dreaded sequelae of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), requiring timely intervention with therapeutic goals of improving brain perfusion. There are currently no standardized real-time, objective assessments of the interventional procedures performed to treat vasospasm. Here we describe real-time techniques to quantify cerebral perfusion during interventional cerebral angiography. We retrospectively analyzed 39 consecutive cases performed to treat clinical vasospasm and quantified the changes in perfusion metrics between pre- and post- verapamil administrations. With Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) perfusion analysis, we are able to identify hypoperfused territories and quantify the exact changes in cerebral perfusion for each individual case and vascular territory. We demonstrate that perfusion analysis for DSA can be performed in real time. This provides clinicians with a colorized map which directly visualizes hypoperfused tissue, combined with associated perfusion statistics. Quantitative thresholds and analysis based on DSA perfusion may assist with real-time dosage estimation and help predict response to treatment, however future prospective analysis is required for validation.Myocardial infarction (MI) can result in sympathetic nerve loss in the infarct region. However, the contribution of hypo-innervation to electrophysiological remodeling, independent from MI-induced ischemia and fibrosis, has not been comprehensively investigated. We present a novel mouse model of regional cardiac sympathetic hypo-innervation utilizing a targeted-toxin (dopamine beta-hydroxylase antibody conjugated to saporin, DBH-Sap), and measure resulting electrophysiological and Ca2+ handling dynamics. Five days post-surgery, sympathetic nerve density was reduced in the anterior left ventricular epicardium of DBH-Sap hearts compared to control. In Langendorff-perfused hearts, there were no differences in mean action potential duration (APD80) between groups; however, isoproterenol (ISO) significantly shortened APD80 in DBH-Sap but not control hearts, resulting in a significant increase in APD80 dispersion in the DBH-Sap group. ISO also produced spontaneous diastolic Ca2+ elevation in DBH-Sap but not control hearts. In innervated hearts, sympathetic nerve stimulation (SNS) increased heart rate to a lesser degree in DBH-Sap hearts compared to control. Additionally, SNS produced APD80 prolongation in the apex of control but not DBH-Sap hearts. The nanocomposite resistance switching layer was composed of the SWCNT@TiO2 core-shell wires and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix by a simple spin-coating method. The device exhibited reproducible resistance switching performance with a remarkably narrow distribution of operating parameters (VSET and VRESET were 2.63 ± 0.16 and 0.95 ± 0.11 V, respectively) with a large RON/ROFF ratio of 105 for 200 consecutive switching cycles. Furthermore, the excellent resistance switching behavior in our device was maintained against mechanical stress up to 105 bending test. We believe that the nanocomposite memory device with SWCNT@TiO2 core-shell wires would be a critical asset to realize practical application for a flexible non-volatile memory field.

Hydroxycloroquine (HCQ) has been extensively studied for treatment and prevention of coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) from the start of the pandemic. Conflicting evidence about its usefulness has begun to accrue.
In the face of controversial results about clinical efficacy of HCQ, we performed a rapid systematic review to assess its safety in the framework of COVID-19 randomized clinical trials.
Five studies investigating 2291 subjects were included. The use of HCQ was associated with higher risk of adverse event compared with placebo or standard of care odds ratio 4.57, 95% confidence interval 2.14-9.45.

The purpose of this study was to determine hepatitis B virus (HBV) screening rates in patients receiving anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α therapy and the frequency of HBV reactivation in patients with resolved hepatitis B virus infection (hepatitis B surface antigen [HBsAg] negative, hepatitis B core antibody [Anti-HBc] positive).
Data from 1834 patients who underwent anti-TNF-α therapy in the Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Dermatology Departments of our hospital between 2010 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Within 6months before the initial anti-TNF-α therapy, performing a HBsAg and/or anti-HBc test is defined as HBV screening. HBV reactivation is defined as the presence of detectable serum HBV DNA or HBsAg seroconversion from negative to positive.
The overall HBV screening rate was 82.3% before starting anti-TNF-α therapy. There was an increasing trend in HBV screening rates during the years analyzed (64% in 2010, 87.4% in 2019) (P<.001). Before anti-TNF-α therapy was initiated, 272 patients were HBsAg negative and anti-HBc positive. Among these patients, HBV reactivation did not occur in 31 patients who received antiviral prophylaxis, whereas HBV reactivation occurred in only 1 (0.4%) of the 241 patients who did not receive antiviral prophylaxis.

Taking advantage of faradaic reaction of quinone groups in natural lignin that is covalently bound to the high-strength cellulose nanofibrils, the fabrication of a novel class of mechanically strong and flexible thin film electrodes with high energy storage performance is reported. The electrodes were made by growing polyaniline (PANI) on flexible films composed of lignin-containing cellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets at various loading levels. The highest specific capacitance was observed for the LCNF/rGO/PANI electrode with 20 wt% rGO nanosheets (475 F g-1 at 10 mV s-1 and 733 F g-1 at 1 mV s-1 ), which represented a 68 % improvement as compared to a similar electrode made without lignin. In addition, the LCNF/rGO(20)/PANI electrode demonstrated high rate performance and cycle life (87 % after 5000 cycles). These results indicated that LCNF functioned as an electrochemically active multifunctional component to impart the composite electrode with mechanical strength and flexibility and enhanced overall energy storage performance. LCNF/rGO(20)/PANI electrode was further integrated in a flexible supercapacitor device, revealing the excellent promise of LCNF for fabrication of advanced flexible electrodes with reduced cost and environmental footprint and enhanced mechanical and energy storage performances.
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a significant public health issue. Australia had 448 deaths from lip and oral cavity cancer in 2018, some of which could be prevented. Consideration of the factors contributing to mortality after OSCC resection can provide a greater insight into how deaths can be prevented.
This paper used data from the Australia and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality from the last 10 years from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2018 for analysis. All surgical deaths were captured as the treating surgeons were mandated to complete a surgical case form for assessment by an independent surgeon from the same specialty.
This study found 25 cases of death after OSCC resection. In 44% of cases, death was related to cardiac causes and 40% was related to respiratory causes. osion in all the cases. Hydroxycloroquine (HCQ) has been extensively studied for treatment and prevention of coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) from the start of the pandemic. Conflicting evidence about its usefulness has begun to accrue. In the face of controversial results about clinical efficacy of HCQ, we performed a rapid systematic review to assess its safety in the framework of COVID-19 randomized clinical trials. Five studies investigating 2291 subjects were included. The use of HCQ was associated with higher risk of adverse event compared with placebo or standard of care odds ratio 4.57, 95% confidence interval 2.14-9.45. The purpose of this study was to determine hepatitis B virus (HBV) screening rates in patients receiving anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α therapy and the frequency of HBV reactivation in patients with resolved hepatitis B virus infection (hepatitis B surface antigen [HBsAg] negative, hepatitis B core antibody [Anti-HBc] positive). Data from 1834 patients who underwent anti-TNF-α therapy in the Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Dermatology Departments of our hospital between 2010 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Within 6months before the initial anti-TNF-α therapy, performing a HBsAg and/or anti-HBc test is defined as HBV screening. HBV reactivation is defined as the presence of detectable serum HBV DNA or HBsAg seroconversion from negative to positive. The overall HBV screening rate was 82.3% before starting anti-TNF-α therapy. There was an increasing trend in HBV screening rates during the years analyzed (64% in 2010, 87.4% in 2019) (P<.001).
