PC is commonly utilized in Myanmar and other resource-limited settings. However, its benefit over SC is unclear. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of people living with HIV (PLWH), who completed either only PC or only SC before treatment initiation across four cities in Myanmar. Participants were evaluated for HIV knowledge, stigma, antiretroviral adherence, barriers to care, social support satisfaction and attitudes regarding both counseling processes. Bivariate analyses and multivariable mixed effects modeling were conducted to compare differences in these measures among PC and SC participants. Among 1006 participants (49% PC; 51% SC), 52% were females and median age was 37 years in those receiving PC and 40 years in those receiving SC. More than 70% of participants in both groups achieved up to grade school education. The average duration since HIV diagnosis was 4.6 years for PC and 5.7 years for SC participants. HIV knowledge and attitudes regarding counseling were good in both groups and more PC participants credited their HIV counselor for knowledge (75% vs 63%, p  less then  0.001). Compared to SC, PC participants had lower enacted stigma (Incidence Rate Ratio (IRR) 0.75, Confidence Interval (CI) [0.65, 0.86]), mean internalized stigma (-0.24, CI [-0.34, -0.14]), and risk of antiretroviral therapy non-adherence (Odds Ratio 0.59, CI [0.40, 0.88]), while reporting higher levels of barriers to care (9.63, CI [8.20, 11.75]). Our findings demonstrate potential benefits of PC compared to SC, and support the utilization of PC to enhance HIV health outcomes within the unique societal and geographical context of Myanmar, and possibly beyond.

  • Including diverse participants in biomedical research is essential to reduce health disparities. We assessed the inclusion of Asians in original research studies conducted in North America and published from 2015-2016 in six high-impact generalist journals New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Pediatrics, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. We determined race reporting method, participant percentage, and reporting of outcomes or implications of findings for Asians and Asian subgroups. Of 1077 studies, 263 articles (24.4%) identified Asians as a distinct race/ethnicity; the median percentage of Asians per study was 3.8%. Of the 263 articles, 28 (10.6%) studies reported outcomes for Asians; nine (3.4%) articles included information about Asian subgroups. Asians are underrepresented in high-impact medical research studies in North America. Efforts to improve study enrollment, data collection, and reporting of findings of Asians in studies remain essential to improve health outcomes for this population.Streptomyces is one of the most prolific producers of economically important bioactive compounds used against several illnesses; it has also been found to produce industrially useful enzymes. In this study, Streptomyces sp. (ERINLG-201) was isolated from the soil sample of Kodanad forest (Southern Western Ghats), The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India. ERINLG-201 isolate showed promising antibacterial activity against tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria which was confirmed by perpendicular 'T' streak method. Participants with untreated DLBCL assessed using both PET/CT and BMB were included. Patients received independent diagnostic assessments from a radiologist and a hematopathologist. Both hematoxylin-eosin staining and CD20 immunostaining were performed to determine the bone marrow involvement in BMB. A total of 84 patients were included. The number of patients with positive bone marrow involvement identified by PET/CT and BMB was 16 (19%) and 22 (26%), respectively. Eight (10%) patients showed positive results in both tests. When considering BMB as a reference, PET/CT showed 36% sensitivity and 87% specificity, with positive and negative predictive values of 50% and 79%, respectively. BMB-positive patients had shorter progression-free (PFS) and overall (OS) survival than their BMB-negative counterparts. Compared to PET/CT-negative patients, patients with positive results did not show any significant differences in PFS and OS. However, among 16 PET/CT-positive patients, poor PFS and OS were observed among patients who were also BMB positive. BMB remains a mandatory step in staging of untreated DLBCL patients.
    To investigate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in reducing renal injury in ureteral obstruction.

    Twenty-four Wistar Albino rats were randomized and divided into four groups as the donor (n = 6), sham (n = 6), saline (n = 6), and PRP (n = 6). Blood was obtained from the donor group by cardiac puncture and PRP was prepared. 2cc blood was sampled from other groups to measure blood-urea nitrogen and creatinine levels. Baseline renal scintigraphy was performed. An abdominal midline incision was made and the left ureter was exposed in the sham group. Saline infusion was given to the kidneys of the saline group after left ureteral obstruction, while PRP was given to the PRP group. On postoperative Day 7, control biochemical and scintigraphic evaluations were performed and left nephrectomies were done. Left kidneys were evaluated histopathologically.

    DMSA measurements in the sham group were found to be significantly higher than the saline and PRP groups (p = 0.001 and p = 0.024, respectively). There were no significant differences between the saline and PRP groups (p = 0.525 and p > 0.05, respectively).     Blind insertion limits the application of percutaneous peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter placement. In this study, we first described the use of an optical puncture system in the PD catheter insertion, and investigated the feasibility and advantages of this modified technique.

    This retrospective study included 65 patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 (CKD5) who received ultrasound-guided percutaneous PD catheter insertion with or without optical puncture system assistance between June 2018 and July 2019. The patients' characteristics as well as the surgical outcomes and complications were compared between the modified group and the routine percutaneous insertion group.

    Twenty-five patients underwent optical puncture system assistant insertion, whereas 40 patients received routine percutaneous insertion.   • Background Challenges and inconsistencies in defining nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) have persisted for decades, which significantly impact NSSI conceptualization and assessment in clinical and research settings and impede the field's progress. Aims The present study aimed to solicit opinions from individuals with NSSI expertise so as to improve the operational definition and conceptualization of NSSI. Method We asked researchers, clinicians, and graduate students with varying NSSI expertise to provide opinions on six NSSI definitional components (e.g., whether pain should be a required outcome), as well as to review 118 behaviors and indicate whether each is NSSI. Results Responses (N = 159) revealed good agreement on specific NSSI definitional aspects and the classification of oft-cited NSSI behaviors. However, findings also demonstrated potential discrepancies in how clinicians and researchers define NSSI when compared with specific behaviors that might be classified as NSSI. Limitations The opinions of the study's sample may not reflect the wider NSSI field. Conclusion Findings suggest that there is an increased need for a clear and consistent definition of NSSI and specific NSSI behaviors. There is also a need to develop new assessment measures that capture the range of NSSI behaviors that received good-to-excellent agreement among self-injury experts.
    Black immigrant women experience high risks for maternal complications, and some of these complications are related to dietary outcomes. This study aimed to explore Sub-Saharan African (SSA) pregnant women's dietary patterns and dietary transition post-immigration and during pregnancy.

    We used a narrative design with a Photovoice approach and collected data through semi-structured interviews, digital food diaries, and Photovoice interviews. We recruited eleven participants (
    = 11) through community gatekeepers and analyzed data using a constructivist grounded theory approach with constant comparative methods.

    The changes in food processes and participants' reactions to these changes generated a dietary transition model with three stages perplexity, deliberation, and acceptance. (1) Perplexity was caused by different food characteristics such as taste, texture, and options. (2) Participants described deliberation as a process of deciding the kind of foods/cooking styles that would be an integral part ofscussions to leverage women's shared experiences and create knowledge/information exchange opportunities.
    This study emphasizes the importance of having a sense of self-efficacy, a positive attitude, and community support in enabling migrant women to navigate dietary transition until they are satisfied with newly constructed eating habits. For all parameters of TPA, carob candy with 5 g/100 g gelatin and grape candy with 10 g/100g gelatin had the lowest and highest values, respectively.     Background Challenges and inconsistencies in defining nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) have persisted for decades, which significantly impact NSSI conceptualization and assessment in clinical and research settings and impede the field's progress. Aims The present study aimed to solicit opinions from individuals with NSSI expertise so as to improve the operational definition and conceptualization of NSSI. Method We asked researchers, clinicians, and graduate students with varying NSSI expertise to provide opinions on six NSSI definitional components (e.g., whether pain should be a required outcome), as well as to review 118 behaviors and indicate whether each is NSSI. Results Responses (N = 159) revealed good agreement on specific NSSI definitional aspects and the classification of oft-cited NSSI behaviors. However, findings also demonstrated potential discrepancies in how clinicians and researchers define NSSI when compared with specific behaviors that might be classified as NSSI. Limitations The opinions of the study's sample may not reflect the wider NSSI field. Conclusion Findings suggest that there is an increased need for a clear and consistent definition of NSSI and specific NSSI behaviors. There is also a need to develop new assessment measures that capture the range of NSSI behaviors that received good-to-excellent agreement among self-injury experts.   • Evaluating health-related applications is necessary for their adequacy and dissemination in society. The GestAção application was evaluated based on the opinion of 13 pregnant women followed up in prenatal care consultations at three public health services and at a private institution in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Data emerged from an evaluation carried out from June to December 2017, including semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed from content analysis in thematic and semiotic modality. Thus, the theme "meanings attributed to the application by pregnant women" emerged, which is associated with the following cores of meaning provision of safe and diverse information; possibility of changing behavior and motivations for using the application. It is considered that semiotics allowed to understand the meanings attributed to the application from the interaction of pregnant women with the tool. The GestAção application was considered satisfactory, motivating to use, informative, safe and promoter of changes in the context of gestational health. Participants' views allow the evaluated technology to compose strategies aimed at promoting health care for pregnant women.A pedagogical activity with Master's Degree and Postgraduate students in Maternal Health and Obstetrics Nursing is described, applying principles of simulated practice in perineal suturing after delivery. This procedure causes a lot of insecurity and generates great anxiety in the students, when they start the internship in a delivery room.

It included a sample of 10 men experiencing, for the first time, a partner's pregnancy. The data collection technique used was semi-structured interviews. The content analysis technique with semantic categorization and an inductive approach was used to analyze the data. As a result, 3 topics emerged "experiencing the transition," "development of the father identity" and "(de)constructing bridges for the transition". This study deepens the understanding of this developmental transition and challenges the restructuring of prenatal care towards the inclusion of the father figure.Health education must be seen as an instrument used to promote quality of life. The experiences of parents who seek these services are associated to three main topics fear of fever; care for a febrile child; and the experience of care at the urgent and emergency services. It was identified that an exaggerated fear of fever predominates and that parents / guardians feel safe regarding the existing technology found in urgent and emergency services. The adopted precautions, however, are not always those recommended for the existing situation.
    To understand the meaning of the experiences of children living in a shelter through therapeutic play.

    Descriptive, qualitative study, carried out in a non-governmental philanthropic shelter located in the city of Santos (SP) - Brazil. The sample was composed of five children between four and 11 years old, who agreed to participate in the study and were also authorized by their legal guardian. Observation during a dramatic therapeutic play session was the strategy used for data collection. Data were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis technique.

    Six categories emerged from the data, highlighting aspects of the child's daily life in the shelter and at school, as well as the nostalgia for family and the way they deal with fear in the shelter. It is also worth mentioning the constant attempt to obtain the approval of the adult and the contentment experience while playing with this adult.

    The therapeutic play allowed the children to reflect on their experiences and have moments of catharsis. For the adult, it was possible to understand how it is to live in a shelter and the challenges faced by the children in this context.

    To assess the effectiveness and safety of minimally invasive approaches in microsurgical treatment of brain aneurysms in comparison with traditional approaches, to clarify the indications and contraindications for minimally invasive approaches.

Previously, treatment of women with brain metastases following reproductive system cancers was palliative and included whole brain radiotherapy. Currently, treatment approaches have changed and life expectancy has increased. Nevertheless, the role of surgical treatment in these patients is still discussed. To demonstrate an appropriateness and role of neurosurgical care in the complex management of women with brain metastases following reproductive system cancers. There were 78 women with brain metastases following reproductive system cancer. All patients were treated at the Blokhin National Cancer Medical Research Center for the period 2004-2019. We have also reviewed the literature data for the last 30 years. To assess the effectiveness and safety of minimally invasive approaches in microsurgical treatment of brain aneurysms in comparison with traditional approaches, to clarify the indications and contraindications for minimally invasive approaches.   • Patients in sub-Saharan Africa generally have poor anticoagulation control. We review the potential reasons for this poor control, as well as the potential solutions. Challenges include the affordability and centralisation of anticoagulation care, problems with access to medicines and international normalised ratio monitoring, the lack of locally validated standardized dosing protocols, and low levels of anticoagulation knowledge among healthcare workers and patients. Increasing numbers of patients will need anticoagulation in the future because of the increasing burden of noncommunicable disease in the region. We propose that locally developed "warfarin care bundles" which address multiple anticoagulation challenges in combination may be the most appropriate solution in this setting currently.Workplace-collected blood spots deposited on filter paper were analysed with multiplexed affinity-based protein assays and found to be suitable for proteomics analysis. The protein extension assay (PEA) was used to characterize 92 proteins using 1.2 mm punches in repeated samples collected from 20 workers. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ABT-263.html Overall, 97.8% of the samples and 91.3% of the analysed proteins passed quality control.     This cross-sectional comparative study analysed cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 90 adult subjects' divided into three equal groups bilateral posterior crossbite (BCG), unilateral posterior crossbite (UCG) and control group (CG). 3D measurements of the TMJ included the following (a) position, angulation and inclination of the mandibular condyles; (b) centralisation of the condyles in their respective mandibular fossae; and (c) volumetric measurements of the TMJ spaces. Intra- and intergroup differences were identified using the paired Student's t test and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's post hoc test, respectively.

    Regarding the intra-group side-based comparisons, there were significant differences in the anterior and superior joint spaces and the anteroposterior condylar joint position in the UCG. Intergroup comparisons revealed significant differences in the vertical condylar inclination, medial condylar position, condylar width and height, and volumetric joint space between the unaffected side of the UCG and left sides of the other groups. There were significant differences in the anteroposterior condylar inclination, medial condylar position, condylar width and height, anterior, posterior, superior and volumetric joint spaces, and anteroposterior condylar joint position between the crossbite side of the UCG and the right sides of the other groups.

Adult males were captured, immediately transported to the laboratory, and euthanized in a CO2 chamber. The musculus masseter superficialis and musculus masseter profundus on the left side of the animals were used to analyze the histochemical composition of the fiber types treated with myosin adenosine triphosphatase, succinate dehydrogenase and periodic acid Schiff. The mean fiber diameters, relative areas, and frequencies of each muscle fiber type were calculated. The mm. masseter superficialis and masseter profundus on the right side were used to measure the physiological cross-sectional area (PCSA). Based on this measurement, the internal force (F) was estimated. In the m. masseter profundus of both species and in the m. masseter superficialis of C. aperea intermediate fast oxidative-glycolytic fibers (FOGi) predominated. In the mm. masseter superficialis and masseter profundus of C. talarum the relative area of fast glycolytic (FG) fibers was greater than that of the muscles of C. aperea, whose main muscle fiber component is FOGi fibers. When corrected for body mass differences, PCSA was higher for the mm. masseter superficialis of C. talarum. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the risk of exposure to these pesticides, particularly on the postnatal development of the male albino rat reproductive system from postnatal days 23-60. The results revealed that a single IPR or CPF exposure has harmful consequences on the reproductive development and function manifested by reduced testicular weight, serious changes in sperm characteristics, reproductive hormone level imbalance, testicular enzymes, oxidative stress and apoptosis-related enzymes, which correlated with transcription levels of steroidogenic- and spermatogenic-related genes. The mm. masseter superficialis and masseter profundus on the right side were used to measure the physiological cross-sectional area (PCSA). Based on this measurement, the internal force (F) was estimated. In the m. masseter profundus of both species and in the m. masseter superficialis of C. aperea intermediate fast oxidative-glycolytic fibers (FOGi) predominated. In the mm. masseter superficialis and masseter profundus of C. talarum the relative area of fast glycolytic (FG) fibers was greater than that of the muscles of C. aperea, whose main muscle fiber component is FOGi fibers. When corrected for body mass differences, PCSA was higher for the mm. masseter superficialis of C. talarum. This and the larger relative area of FG fibers, probably contributes to the exertion of large bite forces in C. talarum, as measured in previous studies.The fungicide iprodione (IPR) and the insecticide chlorpyrifos (CPF) are concurrently applied for early disease control in fruits and other crops. However, there are no available data about the impacts of their co-exposure. Additionally, IPR and CPF are known as endocrine disruptors that can cause reproductive toxicity. The outcomes of their co-exposure on the development of male reproductive organs are still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the risk of exposure to these pesticides, particularly on the postnatal development of the male albino rat reproductive system from postnatal days 23-60. The results revealed that a single IPR or CPF exposure has harmful consequences on the reproductive development and function manifested by reduced testicular weight, serious changes in sperm characteristics, reproductive hormone level imbalance, testicular enzymes, oxidative stress and apoptosis-related enzymes, which correlated with transcription levels of steroidogenic- and spermatogenic-related genes. We report a single institutional experience in performing hernia repair with mesh in terms of hernia-specific outcomes, mesh-related complications, and patient-reported quality of life.

Functional and structural studies of the heart were executed and correlated with mechanistic assessments exploring the role of cytochromes P450 metabolites, the 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids (20-HETEs) and epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs), and their crosstalk with other homeostatic signaling molecules. Our data displays that hyperglycemia results in CYP4A upregulation and CYP2C11 downregulation in the left ventricles (LV) of T1DM rats, paralleled by a differential alteration in their metabolites 20-HETEs (increased) and EETs (decreased). These changes are concomitant with reductions in cardiac outputs, LV hypertrophy, fibrosis, and increased activation of cardiac fetal and hypertrophic genes. Besides, pro-fibrotic cytokine TGF-ß overexpression and NADPH (Nox4) dependent-ROS overproduction are also correlated with the observed cardiac functional and structural modifications.     IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an inflammatory process that uncommonly can present in the skull base and calvarium and mimic a tumor but the nature of this condition is not well summarized in the neurosurgical literature.

    A review was performed of 2 cases of IgG4-RD in the skull base highlighting the diagnostic challenges with assessment of these skull base lesions, and a systematic review of relevant literature was carried out.

    A systematic review of the literature conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines identified 113 articles, with 184 cases of IgG4-RD in the skull base or calvarium. The most commonly affected locations include the meninges, cavernous sinus, base of the posterior fossa, clivus, and mastoid bone. Headache, visual and auditory disturbances, cranial nerve dysfunction, and seizures were the most common presenting symptoms. Medical treatment was highly successful and most commonly consisted of corticosteroids coadministered with immunosuppressive agents such as rituximab. Prevalence seemed to be equal between sexes, and serum IgG4 levels were increased in 61% of patients.

  • Mentorship in medicine aims at professional and personal development of trainees in the early stages of their careers. It is more popular in surgical subspecialties since transfer of technical skills is an integral part of surgical training, which makes it distinct compared to other specialties. Effective mentoring in surgery plays a crucial role in academic success, professional development, career guidance and personal growth of residents, and provides guidance and support to mentees to excel in their respective fields, and increases the likelihood of success by enhancing motivation with positive impact on burnout among residents. Efforts have been made by accreditation bodies around the world to implement formal mentorship in residency programmes. Unfortunately, there is lack of formal mentorship at the level of postgraduate medical education in Pakistan, and the evidence to identify potential obstacles is scarce from this part of the world.Morbidity and mortality meetings have long been part of surgical education and practice. They have undergone several modifications over time to include improvement in patient safety and outcomes as an essential utility of conducting morbidity and mortality meetings. Time and again, it has been proposed in literature that standardisation of case discussion results in the efficiency of these meetings. Learning opportunities can be compiled for system improvement. The current review article was planned to present a newly implemented digital morbidity and mortality portal at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, aiming at homogenising the discussion and to add objectivity to the outcome. It is believed that this uniform system across all surgical specialties may play a significant role in enhancing surgical trainees' learning experience.The provision of good-quality surgical care is a salient feature of every public health system. Pakistan is ranked among low and middle-income countries where the burden of surgical disease is rapidly increasing, but the capacity of the health system has not expanded at the same pace to cater current needs. One of the key components is the dearth of trained surgical specialists and lack of easy access to surgical care. College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan is the main certifying institution for surgeons, while public and private teaching hospitals bear the burden of responsibility for surgical education and training. However, the global crisis inadvertently has led to a few constructive adaptations in healthcare systems, including the development of tele-clinics, virtual academic sessions and conferences, and increased usage of simulation. It provides the opportunity for students to develop psychomotor skills for procedures by practising pre-clinical, standardised learning competencies before they engage in patient-management. Simulation involves computer-aided learning, augmented reality and virtual reality, which are largely taking over pre-clinical teaching. Augmented reality is commonly being employed in maxillofacial, restorative, tooth morphology learning and mastering technique for administering local anaesthesia in dentistry. Virtual reality is being employed particularly in pre-treatment implant planning and dental education for students. Use of haptic technology, like robotics, is also gaining popularity, and facilitates a two-way communication between the user and the environment to better simulate the clinical setting for learning purposes.In recent years, simulation-based training in surgery has emerged as a viable accompaniment to traditional teaching methods. This study aimed to analyze this relationship in three typical traditional Xiaoqu from the Guizhou province in China. The non-volatile metabolites of Xiaoqu were detected using gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry, whereas the classification and metabolic potential of the microbiota were investigated using metagenomic sequencing. Results show that Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria represent the dominant bacterial phyla, with Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Acinetobacter, Leuconostoc, and Weissella found to be the dominant bacterial genera. Meanwhile, Ascomycota, Mucoromycota, and Basidiomycota are the dominant fungaicroorganisms and metabolic patterns present in traditional Guizhou Xiaoqu and might guide researchers in the production of stable and efficient Xiaoqu in the future.Various bacterial pathogens are responsible for nosocomial infections resulting in critical pathophysiological conditions, mortality, and morbidity. Most of the bacterial infections are associated with biofilm formation, which is resistant to the available antimicrobial drugs. As a result, novel bactericidal agents need to be fabricated, which can effectively combat the biofilm-associated bacterial infections. Herein, for the first time we report the antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties of silver-platinum nanohybrids (AgPtNHs), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. The AgPtNHs were synthesized by a green route using Dioscorea bulbifera tuber extract at 100°C for 5 h. The AgPtNHs ranged in size from 20 to 80 nm, with an average of ∼59 nm. AgNPs, PtNPs, and AgPtNHs showed a zeta potential of -14.46, -1.09, and -11.39 mV, respectively. High antimicrobial activity was observed against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus and AgPtNHs exhibited potent antimicrobial synergy in combination with antibiotics such as streptomycin, rifampicin, chloramphenicol, novobiocin, and ampicillin up to variable degrees.

RIP mutates targeted sequences by introducing cytosine to thymine transitions. We investigated the genome-wide occurrence and extent of RIP with a sliding-window approach. The findings were summarized by placing each of the fungi investigated in one of six categories based on the extent of genome-wide RIP. In silico RIP analyses, using a sliding-window approach with stringent RIP parameters, implemented simultaneously within the same genetic context, on high quality genome assemblies, yielded superior results in determining the genome-wide RIP among the Ascomycota. Most Ascomycota had RIP and these mutations were particularly widespread among classes of the Pezizomycotina, including the early diverging Orbiliomycetes and the Pezizomycetes. The most extreme cases of RIP were limited to representatives of the Dothideomycetes and Sordariomycetes. By contrast, the genomes of the Taphrinomycotina and Saccharomycotina contained no detectable evidence of RIP. Also, recent losses in RIP combined with controlled TE proliferation in the Pezizomycotina subphyla may promote substantial genome enlargement as well as the formation of sub-genomic compartments.   • Gouty nephropathy (GN) is considered to be a prevalent renal disease and is an inflammatory event mainly induced by MSU crystals. Plantaginis Semen is a traditional Chinese herb that has been used in the treatment of gout, gouty arthritis and GN, but the mechanism and ingredients have been unclear. In this study, we explored and evaluated the preliminary structural characterizations of Plantaginis Semen polysaccharides (PSPs) and the activity of protecting against renal damage in GN rats. Three polysaccharide fractions, PSP-D, PSP-H and PSP-S, were sequentially extracted by different processes from the seed of Plantago asiatica L. The Fourier transform infrared spectral (FTIR) results showed that there were significant differences between PSP-S and the other two polysaccharides (PSP-D and PSP-H). PSP-D and PSP-H have pyrene monomers and linkages of β-glycosides in their structures, and PSP-S has furanoside in the molecular structure. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of three polysaccharides showeeffect through the down-regulation of the protein expression levels of NLRP3, ASC and caspase-1 and inhibit the release of downstream inflammatory factors. PSPs are promising polysaccharides that could protect against renal injury through ameliorating renal inflammation in GN rats. Plantaginis Semen polysaccharides are potential functional food ingredients or pharmacological agents for treating GN in clinical practice.Herein, small Co nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated in N-doped double-shelled carbon nanocages grafted with thin carbon nanotubes (Co@CNTs@DSCNCs) were synthesized from yolk-shell bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework (BMZIF). For HER electrocatalysis, they exhibit higher activity (η10 = 214 mV) and more favorable kinetics than Co@CNTs@PC (PC = porous carbon) with thick CNTs and large Co NPs derived from solid BMZIF cubes.Dual sign magnetoresistance (MR) and spin-glass state are achieved by stabilizing 120 Å thick La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) film on a (001) oriented Si substrate using pulsed sputtered plasma deposition method. The growth of the ZnO film on top of LSMO suppresses the Curie temperature around 30 K, and reduces the out-of-plane positive MR to zero. On increasing the paramagnetic ZnO film thickness, the out-of-plane negative MR and net magnetic moment increase with the same Curie temperature. At the same time, the band gap decreases, and is attributed to the grain size. The existence of the spin-glass state designates the presence of the non-collinear Mn ion spins, which formed because of the competing double exchange and superexchange interactions. The spin-glass state in the LSMO film is rich in the charge transfer driven localized strong antiferromagnetic coupling at the Si-LSMO interface. The localized strong antiferromagnetic coupling and spin-orbit coupling induced weak antilocalization favor positive MR and reduce the Curie temperature in LSMO. In contrast, the strong magnetic scattering and the loss of the 2D confinement of the charge carrier in LSMO-ZnO heterostructures favor the negative MR. Our investigations show that the technologically important interfacial magnetic coupling and magnetoresistance could be achieved in a bottom interface, and can be manipulated by the top interface of the semiconducting-ferromagnetic-semiconducting heterostructures.Raman hyperspectral imaging is a powerful method to obtain detailed chemical information about a wide variety of organic and inorganic samples noninvasively and without labels. However, due to the weak, nonresonant nature of spontaneous Raman scattering, acquiring a Raman imaging dataset is time-consuming and inefficient. In this paper we utilize a compressive imaging strategy coupled with a context-aware image prior to improve Raman imaging speed by 5- to 10-fold compared to classic point-scanning Raman imaging, while maintaining the traditional benefits of point scanning imaging, such as isotropic resolution and confocality. With faster data acquisition, large datasets can be acquired in reasonable timescales, leading to more reliable downstream analysis. On standard samples, context-aware Raman compressive imaging (CARCI) was able to reduce the number of measurements by ∼85% while maintaining high image quality (SSIM >0.85). Using CARCI, we obtained a large dataset of chemical images of fission yeast cells, showing that by collecting 5-fold more cells in a given experiment time, we were able to get more accurate chemical images, identification of rare cells, and improved biochemical modeling. For example, applying VCA to nearly 100 cells' data together, cellular organelles were resolved that were not faithfully reconstructed by a single cell's dataset.2.25Cr1Mo0.25V is a state-of the-art alloy used in the fabrication of modern hydrogenation reactors. Additionally, the charge and chemical bonding analyses reveal that the stability of the metal carbide hydrides strongly depends on the electronegativity of the metal. Due to the high electronegativity of V, vanadium carbides form the strongest ionic bonds with hydrogen, compared to those of Mo and Cr. The results from this study suggest that the unique capacity of accommodating hydrogen in the vanadium carbides plays an important role in improved hydrogen damage resistance of the 2.25Cr1Mo0.25V alloy in hydrogenation reactors.
