Cross-sectional DLS studies showed positive associations between swimming performance and DLS development (especially through upper-body isometric assessments), although the efficacy of DLS training interventions remains unclear. Dry-land power training (principally through plyometrics) was a proficient, nonspecific method to enhance swimming block start performance (SBS; the start phase off the block and during the first 5-15 m), and jump assessment was the best predictor of SBS. Some pioneering nonspecific practices such as the acute exposure to high altitude or the maintenance of a high core temperature during the transition phase before competition seem to improve performance, although more research is required to confirm their efficacy. This study investigated the effects of sterilization technique and storage time on the bioactivity of antibiotic polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) beads. METHODS Uniform beads of PMMA containing 1 g each of tobramycin and vancomycin were sterilized using autoclave, ethylene oxide (ETO), or ultraviolet (UV) light. Beads were made in a sterile fashion as a control. Disks containing eluted antibiotics from each of the 4 groups were placed onto agar plates inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus. Zones of inhibition, a measure of bioactivity for antibiotic eluted, were determined for the experimental groups and control. Repeat testing was performed for beads stored for 1 week, 1, 3, and 6 months. RESULTS Beads sterilized using autoclave, ETO, and UV light showed similar ZOIs after 24 hours of and 1 week of elution compared with the control group. CFU were counted to quantify the number of bacteria in the biofilm, and the cell proliferation assay 2,3-Bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H- tetrazolium-5-carboxanilid salt was used to evaluate their metabolic activity. Scanning electron microscopy visualized the structure of the biofilm. RESULTS We found a significantly higher metabolic activity and CFU count in the biofilm of PHB pins compared with St and Ti pins (analysis of variance, P less then 0.0001). Scanning electron microscopy revealed structured biofilms on PHB pins already after 2 days of incubation, which was not observed on the other tested implants. CONCLUSION PHB implants seem to provide an environment that advantages the formation of biofilms of S. aureus, a common pathogen in implant-related infections. The amount of biofilm is higher on PHB implant compared with conventionally used orthopedic titanium and steel implants. To overcome the potential risk of surgical site infections linked to the clinical use of PHB implants, possible modifications of the material, increasing its antibacterial properties, need to be further investigated.PURPOSE To evaluate the diagnostic utility of the Look Locker inversion time (TI) sequence on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in patients with suspected cardiac amyloidosis and to evaluate whether there are differences in the nulling pattern between amyloid types. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 144 patients with suspected cardiac amyloidosis who had undergone cardiac magnetic resonance imaging were included in this retrospective study. Sixty-four had cardiac amyloidosis (62.1±9.2 y, 70.3% male, 68.8% had light chain amyloid [AL], 18.8% had familial transthyretin amyloid caused by mutant genes [ATTRm], and 12.5% had wild-type transthyretin amyloid [ATTRwt]) and 80 did not have cardiac amyloidosis (61.3±13.3 y, 58.8% male). Time to myocardial and blood pool nulling on the Look Locker TI sequence was classified as normal if blood pool nulled before myocardium or abnormal if blood pool nulling was coincident with or after myocardial nulling. RESULTS The nulling pattern was abnormal in 26 patients with cardiac amyloidosis compared with none of the patients without cardiac amyloidosis (40.6% vs. 0.0%, P less then 0.0001). Abnormal nulling had 40.6% sensitivity and 100% specificity for cardiac amyloidosis (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve 0.703, 95% confidence interval 0.642-0.764). All patients with cardiac amyloidosis with an abnormal nulling pattern demonstrated late gadolinium enhancement. Among patients with cardiac amyloidosis, there was no significant difference in abnormal nulling between AL, ATTRm, and ATTRwt amyloid types (31.8%, 58.3%, 62.5%, respectively, P=0.10). CONCLUSIONS An abnormal nulling pattern on the Look Locker TI sequence is highly specific for cardiac amyloidosis when present.   • We present the case of an 8-month-old boy with the repeated recurrence of vesicles from the time of birth and who subsequently manifested psychomotor developmental delay. We retrospectively diagnosed the patient with congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. Computed tomography showed multiple calcifications in the periventricular white matter and thalami. The bilateral deep white matter showed an abnormally high signal intensity on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. The patient required consecutive, suppressive therapy with valacyclovir to prevent the repeated recurrence of vesicles. This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the effects of DRGs-based payment and cost-based payment on inpatient health utilization in terms of length of stay (LOS), total inpatient spending per admission and readmission rates. We included studies undertaken with designs approved by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care that reported associations between DRGs-based payment and one or more inpatient healthcare utilization outcomes. After a systematic search of eight electronic databases through October 2018, 18 studies were identified and included in the review. We extracted data and conducted quality assessment, systematic synthesis and meta-analyses on the included studies. Random-effects models were used to handle substantial heterogeneity between studies. Meta-analysis showed that DRGs-based payment was associated with lower LOS (pooled effect -8.07 % [95 %CI -13.05 to -3.10], p = 0.001), and higher readmission rates (pooled effect 1.36 % [95 %CI 0.45-2.27], p = 0.003). This meta-analysis revealed that DRGs-based payment may have cost-saving implications by lowering LOS, whereas hardly reduce the readmission rates. Policy-makers considering adopting DRGs-based payment should pay more attention to the hospital readmission rates compared with cost-based payment. Time trends were analysed using joinpoint regression to obtain the annual calculated standardised rate and the annual percentage of change (APC). RESULTS A total of 27 064 patients with CVD were discharged during the 9-year study period. Ischaemic stroke was the most frequent subtype (61.0%). In patients aged 18 to 49 years, the annual number of admissions due to ischaemic stroke increased by 26%, and rates by 29.2%; however, the joinpoint regression analysis showed no significant changes in the trend (APC=2.74%, P≥.05). By contrast, a downward trend was identified in individuals older than 49 (APC=-1.24%, P less then .05). CONCLUSIONS No significant changes were observed in the rate of hospitalisation due to ischaemic stroke among young adults, despite the decline observed in older adults. Identifying the causes of these disparate trends may be beneficial to the development of specific measures targeting younger adults.     We present the case of an 8-month-old boy with the repeated recurrence of vesicles from the time of birth and who subsequently manifested psychomotor developmental delay. We retrospectively diagnosed the patient with congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. Computed tomography showed multiple calcifications in the periventricular white matter and thalami. The bilateral deep white matter showed an abnormally high signal intensity on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. The patient required consecutive, suppressive therapy with valacyclovir to prevent the repeated recurrence of vesicles.   • PURPOSE To assess the long-term outcome of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) following failed penetrating keratoplasty (PK). METHODS Retrospective review of 1840 consecutive DMEK surgeries from the prospective Cologne DMEK database performed between 07/2011 and 08/2017 at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Cologne. RESULTS Fifty-two eyes received a DMEK surgery after failed PK. Main indications for initial PK were Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (23.1%), keratoconus and herpetic keratitis (each 15.4%). Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at 3, 6 and 12 months was 0.72 ± 0.39 (n = 33), 0.56 ± 0.36 (n = 32) and 0.38 ± 0.28 (n = 23), respectively. Two- and 3-year BCVA was 0.37 ± 0.21 (n = 21) and 0.32 ± 0.18 (n = 10). Mean improvement in visual outcome in logMAR lines was +4.3 ± 3.4 at 6 months, +5.0 ± 3.6 at 12 months, +6.0 ± 2.3 at 24 months and +5.4 ± 2.7 at 36 months, respectively. 59.6% received at least one rebubbling and 40.4% did not necessitate a rebubbling. Endothelial cell density (ECD)-decrease at 6 months was 36% (n = 17), 37% at 12 months (n = 17), 40% at 2 years (n = 8) and 32% at 3 years (n = 2). 34.6% of transplants needed a regraft. METHODS The Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study is a longitudinal cohort of older adults with or at risk of knee OA. Participants' Intermittent and Constant OA Pain (ICOAP) scores were characterized as 1) no intermittent or constant pain; 2) intermittent pain only; 3) constant pain only; and 4) a combination of constant and intermittent pain. Knee pain severity was assessed using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain subscale and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Radiographic knee OA (ROA) severity was defined as Kellgren Lawrence grade ≥ 2, and ROA duration was defined according to the clinic visit at which ROA was first noted. We assessed the relation of ICOAP pain patterns to knee pain severity, ROA severity, and ROA duration using regression models with generalized estimating equations. RESULTS There were 2322 participants (mean age 68.8, BMI 31.0 kg/m2 , 60% female). Higher ICOAP pain patterns, i.e., a mix of constant and intermittent pain were associated with greater WOMAC pain severity compared with those without either pain pattern, OR 43.2 (95%CI 26.4-61.3). Results were similar for the VAS OR 71.2 (45.7-110.9). Those with more severe and longer duration of ROA were more likely to have a mix of constant and intermittent pain compared with those without either pain OR 3.7 (3.1- 4.6) and OR 2.9 (2.5-3.5), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Knee pain patterns are associated with radiographic disease stage and duration, as well as pain severity, highlighting that pain patterns are important for understanding symptomatic disease progression. Mean recoveries were in the range of 76.6-106.5%, with satisfactory intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations lower than 10.0% and 10.8%, respectively. The limits of detection and limits of quantification were in the ranges of 0.05-0.2 μg/L and 0.1-0.5 μg/L, respectively, depending on the analyte. Herein, we report an electrosynthetic system using an alkB biocathode which produces alcohols, epoxides, and sulfoxides through bioelectrochemical hydroxylation, epoxidation, sulfoxidation, and demethylation. The capacity of the alkB binding pocket to protect internal functional groups is also demonstrated. By coupling our alkB biocathode with a hydrogenase bioanode and using H2 as a clean fuel source, we have developed and characterized a series of enzymatic fuel cells capable of oxyfunctionalization while simultaneously producing electricity. © 2020 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.

This review describes the contribution of the gut microbiome in the development of schizophrenia that is facilitated by the gut-brain axis. The gut microbiota is connected to the gut-brain axis via several pathways and mechanisms, that are discussed in this review. The role of the oral microbiota, probiotics and prebiotics in shaping the gut microbiota are also highlighted. Lastly, future perspectives for microbiome research in schizophrenia are addressed.

    In vivo experimental human eyes study METHODS We measured aerosol particle counts sized ≤0.3µm, >0.3 ≤0.5µm, >0.5 ≤1µm, >1 ≤2.5µm, >2.5 ≤5µm, and >5 ≤10µm during elective phacoemulsification surgery of 25 eyes. The baseline particle count in our operating theatre was measured on 2 separate days to assess for fluctuation. Then we measured 5 readings each during pre-phacoemulsification, and phacoemulsification of all eyes. We also measured the difference in aerosol generation during pre-phacoemulsification and phacoemulsification with the use of the mobile laminar air flow (LAF) machine. Lastly, we measured aerosol generation during phacoemulsification with the use of HPMC (2% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose).

The same procedure can be performed after cataract surgery in phakic eyes. Vitrectomy is continued until anterior chamber deepens, ensuring a conduit between anterior and posterior chambers through the posterior capsulotomy alone, bypassing the need for a posterior iridectomy/zonulectomy. The first group (OA-CXL) included 19 eyes that underwent an accelerated CXL protocol (9 mW/ cm2 for 10 minutes) while receiving systemic oxygen at a rate of 5 liters/minute for 10 minutes. The second group consisted of 14 eyes undergoing the same accelerated CXL protocol without supplemental oxygen therapy (A-CXL). The third group (C-CXL) was comprised of 14 eyes undergoing conventional CXL according to the Dresden protocol. All subjects were followed for at least six months. Visual acuity, keratometry and corneal biomechanical parameters including corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF) were measured preoperatively and 6 months postoperat 56.03 ± 5.28 D in the C-CXL group (P=0.58), which reached 53.58 ± 3.24, 54.59 ± 4.65 and 55.87 ± 4.73 D at six months in the three study groups, respectively (P= 0.115). Surface markers and function of cryopreserved DOX-loaded PLT was confirmed by Western blot and thromboelastography, respectively. The morphology of fresh and cryopreserved naïve and DOX-loaded PLT was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The content of tissue factor-expressing cancer-derived extracel from cryopreserved PLT to cancer cells was achieved within 90 min, and stimulated by TF-EV and low pH. The cryopreserved DOX-loaded PLT formulation was 7~23-times more toxic to three cancer cells than liposomal DOX. CONCLUSIONS Cryopreserved DOX-loaded PLT can be prepared under clinically compliant conditions preserving the membrane functionality for anti-cancer therapy. METHODS We searched articles from Web of Science to collect publication data of gun violence research in three disciplines (clinical sciences, life sciences, and social behavior sciences) from 1981 to 2018. The joinpoint regression approach was applied to evaluate the trend of publication ratio. We also adopted the generalized additive mixed model to compare the publication ratio among the three research disciplines. RESULTS During the study period, each research discipline had a significant decrease in publication ratios, especially social behavioral sciences from 2001 to 2011, with an annual percentage change = - 9.77% (95% CI = - 13.45, - 5.93; p-value less then .0001). After combining the three research disciplines, the average change of the publication ratio was significantly increased 9.18% (95% CI = 6.42, 12.01; p-value less then .0001) per year from 1981 to 2018. Compared to social behavioral sciences, both clinical sciences and life sciences had a significantly smaller publication ratio. CONCLUSIONS Gun violence research exhibited a significant downward trend in publications in the early 2000s, which may be attributed at least in part to limited federal funding, but the publication ratio increased since the 2010s. Herein, a monoclinic BiVO4/sepiolite nanocomposite was fabricated as case to study the transport mechanism of photogenerated carries based on the interfaces effect. The obtained BiVO4/sepiolite nanocomposites exhibited excellent visible light photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic degradation rates of antibiotic tetracyclines (TCs) and methylene blue (MB) by the nanocomposites are 2 and 5.34 times higher than that by pure BiVO4 under visible light irradiation. XPS and Raman spectra confirmed the strong interfaces effect existing between BiVO4 and sepiolite clay. Moreover, PL and transient photocurrent response suggested that the strong interfaces effect effectively promoted the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and further enhanced the photocatalytic performance. Major changes occurred in the first week of frozen storage. The ice melting point in larvae was -32.5 °C as determined by DSC 25% of water is not frozen at -20 °C, possibly due to anti-freezing proteins preventing ice formation. The molecular changes during frozen storage increased the browning reactions due to phenoloxidase activity. The need to develop new methodologies for enhancing crop yields and extending fruit postharvest preservation, together with the beneficial effects of dietary MLT, have stimulated the study of the availability and biological roles of MLT in fruit. Here, we are reviewing for the first time the effects of endogenous and exogenous MLT on fruit production and postharvest preservation. The signalling pathways implicated in MLT response and the applications of MLT in fruit decay, abiotic stress and pathogen infection have been traced in order to provide new insights on the biological significance of MLT in fruit. The water-soluble antioxidants were more effective at protecting curcumin from degradation than the oil-soluble ones, which may have been because curcumin degrades faster in water than in oil. Interestingly, the amphiphilic antioxidant was almost as effective as the water-soluble ones. The oil-soluble antioxidant actually slightly promoted curcumin degradation. In summary, curcumin retention after storage declined in the following order 82.6% (Trolox) ~82.2% (ascorbic acid) >79.5% (ascorbyl palmitate) ≫57.9% (control) >52.7% (α-tocopherol). The effectiveness of ascorbic acid in stabilizing curcumin increased as its concentration was raised (0-300 μM). Our results may facilitate the creation of curcumin-enriched foods and beverages with enhanced bioactivity.

Although the construction of clay-supported photocatalyst is a promising strategy to develop the low cost and high activity photocatalyst, only few works researched the effect of their interfaces on the photocatalytic performance. Herein, a monoclinic BiVO4/sepiolite nanocomposite was fabricated as case to study the transport mechanism of photogenerated carries based on the interfaces effect. The obtained BiVO4/sepiolite nanocomposites exhibited excellent visible light photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic degradation rates of antibiotic tetracyclines (TCs) and methylene blue (MB) by the nanocomposites are 2 and 5.34 times higher than that by pure BiVO4 under visible light irradiation. XPS and Raman spectra confirmed the strong interfaces effect existing between BiVO4 and sepiolite clay. Moreover, PL and transient photocurrent response suggested that the strong interfaces effect effectively promoted the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and further enhanced the photocatalytic performance. In addition, the results of trapping experiments revealed that the photo-induced holes (h+) were the dominant active species in the photocatalytic mechanism. This work illuminates the photocatalytic mechanism of monoclinic BiVO4/sepiolite nanocomposites and provides a novel strategy for designing the clay-supported photocatalyst for degradation of organic pollutants. V.The effect of frozen storage on the chemical properties and ingredient functionalities of Lesser mealworms was investigated at -20 °C for 2 months. Major changes occurred in the first week of frozen storage. Proteins, among which heavy chain myosin, underwent denaturation and aggregation, as shown by a decrease in solubility, SDS-PAGE pattern, and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy. The ice melting point in larvae was -32.5 °C as determined by DSC 25% of water is not frozen at -20 °C, possibly due to anti-freezing proteins preventing ice formation. The presence of unfrozen water favoured various enzymatic activities as shown by a pH decrease, indicating protein hydrolysis. The molecular changes during frozen storage increased the browning reactions due to phenoloxidase activity. Foaming ability, foam stability and gel network stability increased upon frozen storage due to protein denaturation. Results provide important information regarding the opportunity of frozen storage of insect larvae for both research and industrial purposes. Melatonin (MLT) is a versatile biological signal that is involved in a number of plant processes, including germination, development, flowering, photosynthesis and defence. The need to develop new methodologies for enhancing crop yields and extending fruit postharvest preservation, together with the beneficial effects of dietary MLT, have stimulated the study of the availability and biological roles of MLT in fruit. Here, we are reviewing for the first time the effects of endogenous and exogenous MLT on fruit production and postharvest preservation. The signalling pathways implicated in MLT response and the applications of MLT in fruit decay, abiotic stress and pathogen infection have been traced in order to provide new insights on the biological significance of MLT in fruit. Precise identification of the compounds characteristic to stored white teas is urgently needed as these products have unique flavors and health benefits that improve with storage duration. Owing to the potential applications in food quality discrimination, specific regularities between the enantiomeric distributions of 23 volatile lactones and terpenoids and storage durations of white teas were expected and investigated by enantioselective gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Es-GC-MS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis.   • The diagnosis of asymptomatic cardiac myxoma was present in 28.4% of patients, with an increasing trend for incidence over the years. This is possibly due to increased opportunistic screening (with electrocardiogram and clinical examination) as well as higher usage of medical imaging.INTRODUCTION Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability, with the administration of reverse transcriptase-plasminogen activator (rtPA) improving outcomes in a time-dependent manner. Only 52.3% of our eligible stroke patients received rtPA within 60 minutes of arrival. We aimed to better the percentage of acute stroke patients receiving rtPA within 60 minutes of arrival at the emergency department (ED). There was no significant increase in symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage or mortality secondary to stroke. There was significant reduction in length of stay by 1.5 days (p less then 0.048). CONCLUSION The interventions resulted in an increasing but non-significant trend of acute stroke patients receiving thrombolysis within 60 minutes. Material and Methods Cross-sectional descriptive survey was performed among 800 schoolchildren to assess the dental caries status by Caries Assessment Spectrum and Treatment (CAST) scoring. Chi-square, parametric t-test, one-way ANOVA with post hoc Bonferroni and stepwise multiple linear regression were utilized for statistical analysis. Results Study population comprised of 476 (59.5%) boys and 324 (40.5%) girls, of which 356 (44.5%) and 444 (55.5%) represented the 12- and 15-years age group respectively. Prevalence of dental caries was 60.6% (Mean 0.38+0.545). Younger age group children presented a significant (p less then 0.05) lower caries prevalence (54.8%) as against 65.3% in 15 years children. Majority, 189 (23.6%) revealed distinct visual change in enamel (code 3). Acuteness of disease constructed on maximum CAST score for each subject showed that teeth with morbidity (28.5%) is higher followed by reversible pre-morbidity (23.6%) and serious morbidity (6.5%). Predominantly first molars were generally influenced. Significant interpreters in plunging order for DMFT were frequency of cleaning teeth and sweet score. Conclusions A creative instrument named CAST index describes full continuum of dental caries. Material and methods The studied group consisted of 609 students aged 18-30. The study identified four categories of diet quality indicators based on the index of a healthy diet and the index of an unhealthy diet. These indicators were subjected to statistical analysis in relation to the level of physical activity determined by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) method and selected somatic features of the subjects Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHtR) and Waist Circumstance (WC). Results A high level of physical activity statistically significantly differentiated the categories of diet quality indicators. A larger percentage of respondents with a high level of physical activity had an indicator with the best health features of diet characteristics among all diet quality indicators selected in the study. Also, obesity according to the BMI and abdominal obesity with a high risk of metabolic complications according to the WC index statistically significantly differentiated the categories of diet quality indicators. A larger percentage of obese subjects according to BMI and WC, characterized the indicator about the worst health features of diet among all diet quality indicators selected in the study. Objective The aim of the study was to assess the scale of improper eating behaviours among high-performance Polish athletes depending on gender, sports level and type of discipline. Material and methods The study was conducted among 610 athletes (391 men and 219 women). The group consisted of 289 athletes of individual disciplines and 321 team sports athletes representing the championship sports class (282 individuals) as well as the first and second classes (328 subjects). The authors’ validated nutritional behaviour questionnaire was used, referring to the recommendation of the Swiss nutrition pyramid for athletes. In statistical analysis, the Chi2 test was applied (α=0.05). Results Athletes most often demonstrated improper behaviours regarding insufficient frequency of consuming vegetable fats (61.78%), fruits (59.89%), wholegrain products (59.

  • PURPOSE To evaluate the relationship between renal elasticity which was determined with shear wave elastography (SWE) and hemorrhage in patients who undergone percutaneous renal parenchyma biopsy (PRB). MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 60 patients who were performed ultrasound-guided PRB after the B-mode ultrasonography and SWE assessment were recruited in this study. All patients' serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and coagulation tests before PRB were obtained from medical records. The patients were divided into two groups who did and did not develop hemorrhage after PRB. We investigated whether there was any statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of laboratory findings, B-mode ultrasonographic measurements and SWE measurements. RESULTS Of the 60 patients, 23 (38.3%) had post-procedure hemorrhage and 37 (61.7%) had not. Mean hemorrhage size was 17.04 mm (7-50 mm). The mean value of renal cortical shear wave velocity of all patients was 1.91 m/s (0.96-3.57 m/sn). Patients with post-procedure hemorrhage had significantly lower mean shear wave velocity compared with patients with no hemorrhage (p  less then  0.05). ROC curve analysis suggested that the optimum SWV cutoff point for hemorrhage presence was 1.21 m/sn, with 39.1% sensitivity and 97.3% specificity. There was no other statistically significant demographic, ultrasonographic or laboratory value differences between two groups. CONCLUSION Although shear wave velocities have low sensitivity for hemorrhage after renal biopsy, high specificity and statistically significant difference in hemorrhage and non-hemorrhage group suggest that patients who have lower renal cortical shear wave velocity have a tendency to hemorrhage after PRB.PURPOSE To test the technical reproducibility of acquisition and scanners of CT image-based radiomics model for early recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS We included primary HCC patient undergone curative therapies, using early recurrence as endpoint. Four datasets were constructed 109 images from hospital #1 for training (set 1 1-mm image slice thickness), 47 images from hospital #1 for internal validation (sets 2 and 3 1-mm and 10-mm image slice thicknesses, respectively), and 47 images from hospital #2 for external validation (set 4 vastly different from training dataset). A radiomics model was constructed. Radiomics technical reproducibility was measured by overfitting and calibration deviation in external validation dataset. The influence of slice thickness on reproducibility was evaluated in two internal validation datasets. RESULTS Compared with set 1, the model in set 2 indicated favorable prediction efficiency (the area under the curve 0.79 vs. 0.80, P = 0.47) and good calibration (unreliability statistic U P = 0.33). However, in set 4, significant overfitting (0.63 vs. 0.80, P  less then  0.01) and calibration deviation (U P  less then  0.01) were observed. Similar poor performance was also observed in set 3 (0.56 vs. 0.80, P = 0.02; U P  less then  0.01). CONCLUSIONS CT-based radiomics has poor reproducibility between centers. This may result in extensive workups, leading to suboptimal management and chronic pain syndromes.Breast cancer has the second highest frequency of death rate among women worldwide. Early-stage prevention becomes complex due to reasons unknown. However, some typical signatures like masses and micro-calcifications upon investigating mammograms can help diagnose women better. Manual diagnosis is a hard task the radiologists carry out frequently. For their assistance, many computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) approaches have been developed. To improve upon the state of the art, we proposed a deep ensemble transfer learning and neural network classifier for automatic feature extraction and classification. In computer-assisted mammography, deep learning-based architectures are generally not trained on mammogram images directly. Instead, the images are pre-processed beforehand, and then they are adopted to be given as input to the ensemble model proposed. The robust features extracted from the ensemble model are optimized into a feature vector which are further classified using the neural network (nntraintool). The network was trained and tested to separate out benign and malignant tumors, thus achieving an accuracy of 0.88 with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.88. The attained results show that the proposed methodology is a promising and robust CADx system for breast cancer classification. Graphical Abstract Flow diagram of the proposed approach. CONCLUSION Although shear wave velocities have low sensitivity for hemorrhage after renal biopsy, high specificity and statistically significant difference in hemorrhage and non-hemorrhage group suggest that patients who have lower renal cortical shear wave velocity have a tendency to hemorrhage after PRB.PURPOSE To test the technical reproducibility of acquisition and scanners of CT image-based radiomics model for early recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS We included primary HCC patient undergone curative therapies, using early recurrence as endpoint. Four datasets were constructed 109 images from hospital #1 for training (set 1 1-mm image slice thickness), 47 images from hospital #1 for internal validation (sets 2 and 3 1-mm and 10-mm image slice thicknesses, respectively), and 47 images from hospital #2 for external validation (set 4 vastly different from training dataset). A radiomics model was constructed. Radiomics technical reproducibility was measured by overfitting and calibration deviation in external validation dataset. The influence of slice thickness on reproducibility was evaluated in two internal validation datasets. RESULTS Compared with set 1, the model in set 2 indicated favorable prediction efficiency (the area under the curve 0.79 vs. 0.80, P = 0.47) and good calibration (unreliability statistic U P = 0.33). However, in set 4, significant overfitting (0.63 vs. 0.80, P  less then  0.01) and calibration deviation (U P  less then  0.01) were observed. Similar poor performance was also observed in set 3 (0.56 vs. 0.80, P = 0.02; U P  less then  0.01). CONCLUSIONS CT-based radiomics has poor reproducibility between centers. Early-stage prevention becomes complex due to reasons unknown. However, some typical signatures like masses and micro-calcifications upon investigating mammograms can help diagnose women better. Manual diagnosis is a hard task the radiologists carry out frequently. For their assistance, many computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) approaches have been developed. To improve upon the state of the art, we proposed a deep ensemble transfer learning and neural network classifier for automatic feature extraction and classification. In computer-assisted mammography, deep learning-based architectures are generally not trained on mammogram images directly. Instead, the images are pre-processed beforehand, and then they are adopted to be given as input to the ensemble model proposed. The robust features extracted from the ensemble model are optimized into a feature vector which are further classified using the neural network (nntraintool). The network was trained and tested to separate out benign and malignant tumors, thus achieving an accuracy of 0.88 with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.88. The attained results show that the proposed methodology is a promising and robust CADx system for breast cancer classification. Graphical Abstract Flow diagram of the proposed approach.
