  • BACKGROUND Mechanisms underpinning ongoing symptoms in chronic whiplash associated-disorder (WAD) are not well understood. People with chronic WAD can exhibit sensory dysfunction consistent with small nerve fibre pathology, including thermal hypoaesthesia and hyperalgesia. This study investigated small fibre structure and function in chronic WAD. METHODS Twenty-four people with chronic WAD (median [IQR] age 49 [15] years, 16 females) and 24 pain-free controls (50 [17] years, 16 females) were recruited. Intraepidermal nerve fibre density (IENFD) and dermal innervation were assessed by skin biopsy. This was performed at (a) the lateral index finger on the primary side of pain and (b) superior to the lateral malleolus on the contralateral side. Quantitative sensory testing was performed over the hand. RESULTS The WAD group exhibited lower IENFD at the finger (WAD median [IQR] 4.5 [4.9] fibres/mm; control 7.3 [3.9]; p = .010), but not the ankle (WAD mean [SD] 7.3 [3.7] fibres/mm; control 9.3 [3.8]; p = .09). Dermal innervation was lower in the WAD group at the finger (WAD median [IQR] 3.7 [2.8] nerve bundles/mm2 ; controls 4.9 [2.1]; p = .017) but not the ankle (WAD median [IQR] 2.1 [1.9] nerve bundles/mm2 ; controls 1.8 [1.8]; p = .70). In the WAD group, hand thermal and light touch detection were impaired, and heat pain thresholds were lowered (p ≤ .037). CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest small fibre structural and functional deficits in chronic WAD, implicating potential involvement of small fibre pathology. SIGNIFICANCE Our study found decreased intraepidermal nerve fibre density, reduced dermal innervation, thermal hypoaesthesia and hypersensitivity in people with chronic WAD, suggestive of small fibre pathology. Randomized-controlled trials designed to determine the effect of treating AF concomitantly with other cardiac surgical procedures have lacked long-term follow up, but multiple, large observational studies have demonstrated an improved quality of life, a decrease in long-term strokes, and improved late survival in patients who undergo AF ablation. However, the potential survival benefit of concomitant AF ablation was not addressed by either the Society of Thoracic Surgery or American Association for Thoracic Surgery guideline committees. Left atrial appendage closure is an important part of the surgical ablation of AF as it significantly reduces the long-term risk of stroke following cardiac surgery and improves the success of AF treatment. The process is intended to simulate a worst-case scenario of the filtration efficiency due to the reduction of the electret effect. These minimal efficiencies are a principal part of the filter classification. Therefore, two round robin tests with different filter classes (F9 and F7 according to EN 779) and up to eleven participants were carried out to evaluate the new test method by comparing the filtration efficiencies and pressure drops before and after the IPA treatment. Pressure drop measurements showed no mechanical altering of the material due to the discharging process. The calculated filter classes had a maximum deviation of 5%. The existing complete dentures were converted to IODs. Standardized radiographs of each implant were taken at implant placement (baseline) and during the five-year follow-up. ΔMBLs and potential influencing factors were evaluated, and peri-implant parameters, and biological and technical complications were recorded. METHODS In this single institutional posthoc registry analysis, we assessed characteristics and survival rates from all patients with locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer who started a systemic treatment between 01/2011 and 12/2017. Survival analyses were performed by Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS A total of 301 patients started a systemic treatment in the observation period. In the first line treatment, we observed a shift from the four different main regimens (gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel, modified FOLFIRINOX, gemcitabine/oxaliplatin +/- erlotinib or gemcitabine alone) to gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel and modified FOLFIRINOX that add up to more than 80% of administered first line treatments in each of the time cohorts (2011-2013 vs. 2014-2017). The rate for first line modified FOLFIRINOX treatment was balanced between the two groups (19% and 15%). Median overall survival differed significantly between the two time cohorts (8.89 versus 11.9 months, p = 0.035). Survival rates for different first to second line treatment sequences (modified FOLFIRINOX to gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel, gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel to fluoropyrimidines plus nanoliposomal irinotecan, or gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel to fluoropyrimidines plus oxaliplatin) were not significantly different and median overall survival ranged from 14.27 to 15.64 months. It was found that the water uptake increased with the increasing percentages of lignocellulosic fibers due to the hydrophilic nature of such reinforcements. The diffusion behavior was found to be Fickian. A maleic anhydride was added as a coupling agent in order to increase the strength of the interface between the matrix and the reinforcements. It was found that the presence of such a coupling agent increased the impact strength of the composites and decreased the water uptake. Impact strengths of 21.3 kJ/m3 were obtained for a coupled composite with 30 wt % reinforcement contents, which is a value higher than that obtained for glass fiber-based materials. The obtained composites reinforced with recycled fibers showed competitive impact strength and water uptake behaviors in comparison with materials reinforced with raw lignocellulosic fibers. For more than a decade, numerous antimicrobial compounds have been discovered from marine environments, with many more antimicrobials still being discovered every year. So far, only very few compounds are in preclinical and clinical trials. Research in marine natural products has resulted in the isolation and identification of numerous diverse and novel chemical compounds with potency against even drug-resistant pathogens. Some of these compounds, which mainly came from marine bacteria and fungi, have been classified into alkaloids, lactones, phenols, quinones, tannins, terpenes, glycosides, halogenated, polyketides, xanthones, macrocycles, peptides, and fatty acids.

  • Previous studies argued that body turns are executed in an ordered sequence the eyes turn first, followed by the head and then by the trunk. The purpose of this study was to find out whether this sequence holds even if body turns are not explicitly instructed, but nevertheless are necessary to reach an instructed distal goal. We asked participants to shop for grocery products in a simulated supermarket. To retrieve each product, they had to walk down and aisle, and then turn left or right into a corridor that led towards the target shelf. The need to make a turn was never mentioned by the experimenter, but it nevertheless was required in order to approach the target shelf. Main variables of interest were the delay between eye and head turns towards the target shelf, as well as the delay between head and trunk turns towards the target shelf. We found that both delays were consistently positive, and that their magnitude was near the top of the range reported in literature. Methods Five-month old male WT and PLB4 **** were fed either (1) control chow diet, (2) 45%-saturated fat diet (HFD), (3) HFD with 0.04% Fen (HFD + Fen) or (4) control chow diet with 0.04% Fen (Fen) for 10 weeks. We assessed basic metabolic parameters, circadian rhythmicity, spatial habituation (Phenotyper) and working memory (Y-maze). Hypothalami, forebrain and liver tissues were assessed using Western blots, qPCR and ELISAs. Results HFD feeding drastically worsened metabolism and induced early mortality (-40%) in otherwise viable PLB4 ****. This was ameliorated by Fen, despite no effects on glucose intolerance. In HFD-fed WT ****, Fen reduced weight gain, glucose intolerance and hepatic steatosis. The physiological changes induced in WT and PLB4 **** by HFD (+/-Fen) were accompanied by enhanced cerebral astrogliosis, elevated PTP1B, phopsho-eIF2α and altered hypothalamic transcription of Bace1, Pomc and Mc4r. Behaviourally, HFD feeding exacerbated spatial memory deficits in PLB4 ****, which was prevented by Fen and linked with increased full-length APP, normalized brain Aβ*56 oligomerization and astrogliosis. Methods The study base includes married immigrants who lived in Denmark between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 2014 (N = 13,680). We use event history models to examine the influence of spousal migration order on hospitalizations. Results The order that married individuals arrive in Denmark is indeed highly gendered, with men tending to arrive first, and varies by country of origin. Risk of hospitalization after age 50 does not depend on whether an individual migrated before, after, or at the same time as their spouse among either men or women. However, among those aged 18+, men migrating before their wives are more likely to experience hospitalizations within the first 5 years of arrival. Conclusions These findings provide the first key insights about gendered migration patterns in Denmark. Although spousal order of migration is not related to overnight hospitalization among women, our findings provide preliminary evidence that men age 18+ who are first to arrive experience more hospitalization events in the following 5 years. Future research should explore additional outcomes and whether other gendered migration contexts are related to immigrants' health.
    Previous studies argued that body turns are executed in an ordered sequence the eyes turn first, followed by the head and then by the trunk. The purpose of this study was to find out whether this sequence holds even if body turns are not explicitly instructed, but nevertheless are necessary to reach an instructed distal goal. We asked participants to shop for grocery products in a simulated supermarket. To retrieve each product, they had to walk down and aisle, and then turn left or right into a corridor that led towards the target shelf. The need to make a turn was never mentioned by the experimenter, but it nevertheless was required in order to approach the target shelf. Main variables of interest were the delay between eye and head turns towards the target shelf, as well as the delay between head and trunk turns towards the target shelf. We found that both delays were consistently positive, and that their magnitude was near the top of the range reported in literature. This coincided with significantly reduced β-glucan exposure on the cell surface, which appeared to be a shared property among the tested vaginal strains for yeast extract/peptone/dextrose-grown cells, which is partly lost when the isolates faced vaginal niche-like nutrient conditions. However, macrophage damage, survival of phagocytosis, and filamentation capacities were highly strain-specific. There is a high incidence of myocardial injury and arrhythmia reported with COVID-19 infection, and as such this population may be more susceptible to this side-effect profile. Studies to date have now demonstrated that in patients with COVID-19, these drugs are associated with significant QTc prolongation, as well as reports of ventricular arrhythmias.

  • We focused on the genes and sites whose degradation efficiencies differed. Changes in degradation efficiencies at the gene and site levels revealed an effect on mRNA accumulation in all comparisons. TNBC is characterized by increased expression of Programmed Death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), a signal used by many tumors to escape the immune response. Expression of PD-L1 is a positive predictor of response to immunotherapy; therefore, it should be investigated in TNBC in order to select patients who may benefit from anti-PD-L1 therapies. While many PD-L1 assays are available, only the VENTANA platform with the anti-PD-L1 (SP142) antibody is licensed as a companion diagnostic device for selecting patients with metastatic/advanced TNBC who are candidates for treatment with atezolizumab. In addition, Rad52, Rad51, and Rad57, but not Rad54, facilitate Rad6/Rad18 binding to chromatin and subsequent DNA damage-induced PCNA ubiquitylation. Therefore, Rad52 facilitates the tolerance process not only by HR but also by TLS through Rad51/Rad57-dependent and -independent processes, providing a novel role for the recombination proteins in maintaining genome integrity.

    Patients with COVID-19 were classified into four groups according to symptom. The study traced the onset and duration of symptoms, compared laboratory examinations and conducted bioinformatic analysis. Immune indices were further analysed.

    A tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) is a commonly performed procedure in young and active patients with patellofemoral complaints. Previous small patient series demonstrated a relatively high risk of complications, which appear to be technique dependent. The purpose of this large case series is to quantify the risk of procedure specific postoperative complications related to a uniform self-centering TTO technique in a large cohort, performed by two different surgeons in one center.

    We hypothesize that non-union or fracture occurs in less than 1% of the procedures.

    Five hundred and twenty-nine knees in four hundred and forty-seven patients who underwent a self-centering TTO with at least one year of follow-up were included. We performed a retrospective cohort review. Tibial fracture, osteotomy non-union, neurovascular complications, infection and wound complications that required surgical intervention were defined as major complications, miscellaneous complications were defined minor.

    The major finding in this study is the low incidence of non-union (0.6%) and tibial fracture (0.4%). In total 9 (1.7%) major complications were reported. Minor complications included superficial wound infection in five patients, two patients had a venous thrombo-embolism (VTE).

    A self-centering TTO is a relatively safe technique with a low number of non-union and fracture.

    Addition of collagen during medial meniscal root repair (MMRR) may improve meniscal root healing minimising fibrous scar tissue formation. The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of atelocollagen on MMRR using the modified Mason-Allen stitch when compared with that of the conventional pullout repair by assessing the clinical and radiological outcomes.

    It was hypothesised that atelocollagen would enhance the healing effect on the meniscal root following MMRR. Moreover, we presumed that MMRR with atelocollagen application might reduce meniscal extrusion by promoting healing.

    A total of 47 patients who underwent MMRR using the modified Mason-Allen stitch between 2015 and 2016 were included, and they were divided into group A (atelocollagen application; n=25) and group R (MMRR without atelocollagen application; n=22). The postoperative clinical outcomes, radiological outcomes, and meniscal root healing and medial compartment cartilage status on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were comp±0.3mm following MMRR without significant differences (p=0.056 and p=0.229, respectively). The IMSI presented significant negative correlations with the root healing status and significant positive correlations with K-L grade progression (p<0.05).

    Onset of spinal bone metastasis is a turning point in the progression of tumoral disease; although incidence is increasing, management is not standardized. Various prognostic scores are available, but advances in medical and surgical treatment have made them less well adapted, and sometimes discordant for a given patient. The aim of the present study was to identify biologic risk factors for onset of postoperative complications and death following spinal bone metastasis surgery.

    A prospective multicenter study included all patients operated on for spinal bone metastasis between November 2015 and May 2017. The main epidemiologic data and biologic data (CRP, albuminemia, calcemia) were collected preoperatively. Surgical strategy, death and/or postoperative complications were collected prospectively.

  • There is an urgent need for the discovery and/or development of novel antibiotics. We report an exploration of "slow"-growing bacteria, which can be difficult to isolate using rich media as they are usually outcompeted by "fast"-growing bacteria, as potential sources of novel antimicrobials.

    Pseudomonas sp. RIT 623 was isolated using pond water agar from a pond located on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The genome was sequenced and analyzed for potential secondary metabolite gene clusters. Bioinformatics analysis revealed 14 putative gene clusters predicted to encode pathways for the anabolism of secondary metabolites. Ethyl acetate extracts from spent growth medium of Pseudomonas sp. RIT 623 were tested against two Gram-negative (E. coli ATCC 25922 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853) and two Gram-positive (B. subtilis BGSC 168 and S. aureus ATCC 25923) type strains to assess antibiotic activity. The antibiotic assays demonstrated that extracts of Pseudomonas sp. RIT 623 were able to p. RIT 623 were able to inhibit the growth of the four strains. The active compound was separated using diethyl ether in a multi-solvent extraction and reverse phase chromatography.     This study aimed to identify the influential factors for the sensitivity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plasma test in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The mutations were detected in tumor tissue and matched plasma samples from 125 newly diagnosed adenocarcinoma, clinical-stage IIIB-IV patients, and compared the diagnostic values of EGFR plasma test between groups of clinical characteristics. The influential factors for the sensitivity were identified and assessed by logistic regression.

    EGFR mutations were detected in 65 (52.0%) tumor tissue and 50 (40.0%) matched plasma samples (P = 0.028). Compared to the tissue method, the concordance rate, sensitivity, and specificity of the EGFR plasma test were 86.4%, 75.4%, and 98.3%, respectively. Notably, we found that sensitivity of the test is higher in non-smokers (84.1%) compared to smokers (57.1%, P = 0.018), and in treatment naïve subjects (85.7%) compared to whom undergone chemo-radiotherapy with/without surgery before testing (56.5%, P = 0ted in those with both factors (40.0%, P = 0.004). The multivariable analysis confirmed that smoking habit and treatment history have independently negative impacts on sensitivity (OR = 0.24, P = 0.019, and OR = 0.36, P = 0.047, respectively).

    To determine the feasibility and validity of using wearable activity trackers to test associations between gout flares with physical activity and sleep.

    Participants with physician-diagnosed gout, hyperuricemia (≥ 6.8 mg/dl), current smartphone use, and ≥ 2 self-reported flares in the previous 6 months were enrolled. Physical activity, heart rate, and sleep data were obtained from wearable activity trackers (Fitbit Charge HR2). Daily compliance was defined by the availability of sufficiently complete activity data at least 80% of the day. Associations of weekly gout flares with sleep and activity were measured by comparing flare-related values to average sleep and steps per day. We used mixed linear models to account for repeated observations.

    Forty-four participants enrolled; 33 met the criteria for minimal wear time and flare reporting, with activity tracker data available for 60.5% of all total study days. Pseudomonas sp. RIT 623 was isolated using pond water agar from a pond located on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The genome was sequenced and analyzed for potential secondary metabolite gene clusters. Bioinformatics analysis revealed 14 putative gene clusters predicted to encode pathways for the anabolism of secondary metabolites. Ethyl acetate extracts from spent growth medium of Pseudomonas sp. RIT 623 were tested against two Gram-negative (E. coli ATCC 25922 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853) and two Gram-positive (B. subtilis BGSC 168 and S. aureus ATCC 25923) type strains to assess antibiotic activity. The mutations were detected in tumor tissue and matched plasma samples from 125 newly diagnosed adenocarcinoma, clinical-stage IIIB-IV patients, and compared the diagnostic values of EGFR plasma test between groups of clinical characteristics. The influential factors for the sensitivity were identified and assessed by logistic regression. EGFR mutations were detected in 65 (52.0%) tumor tissue and 50 (40.0%) matched plasma samples (P = 0.028). Compared to the tissue method, the concordance rate, sensitivity, and specificity of the EGFR plasma test were 86.4%, 75.4%, and 98.3%, respectively.     Research indicates home-packed school lunches are lower in nutritional value compared with school-provided meals. Due to the lack of a school lunch program, most of what Canadian children consume during the school day is determined by parents and caregivers through packed lunches. Despite this, little research has focused on the school lunch packing habits and attitudes of parents. The purpose of this scoping review was to improve understanding of parental perceptions, experiences, and habits with respect to home-packed school lunches.

    We conducted a scoping review of peer-reviewed and gray literature. We reviewed only studies published from January 2000 to January 2019 with a focus on parents' lunch packing habits for their school-aged children.

    The review included 7 studies, with articles from the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. The studies identified 6 themes influencing parental decisions regarding what to pack in their child's lunch-school environment, food as fuel, convenience, child's influence, cost, and the lunch experience.

    The decisions that influence what is packed in a school lunch are complex and indicate the need for support. Parents, schools, districts, and government policymakers need to work collaboratively to improve the healthiness of home-packed school lunches.

    Preterm birth is a major cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. In many countries, the preterm birth rate in women with a multiple pregnancy is increasing, mostly due to an increase in iatrogenic preterm birth.

    To investigate trends in preterm birth in twin pregnancies in Victoria, Australia, in relation to maternal and perinatal complications.

    We conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study in all women with a twin pregnancy who delivered at or after 20weeks of gestation in the state of Victoria, Australia between 2007 and 2017. Annual spontaneous and iatrogenic preterm birth rates were calculated and trends analysed. Incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes, maternal complications and risk factors for preterm birth were analysed.

    We studied 12757 women with a twin pregnancy. Between 2007 and 2017 the preterm birth rate increased from 641/1231 (52%) to 803/1158 (69%), mainly due to an increase in iatrogenic preterm birth from 342/1231 (28%) to 567/1158 (49%). This was irrespective of the presence of pregnancy complications. Our study showed neither a decrease in perinatal mortality from 28weeks of gestation nor in preterm average weekly prospective stillbirth risk.

Extracts were added at 500 mg/L (E1) and 1,000 mg/L (E2), and after 30 days of storage at room temperature, E2 oil showed improved quality parameters, with a reduction of 22.4%, 17.2%, and 45.6% in the values of acidity, peroxide, and p-anisidine, respectively. The extract also increased oil stability at 180 °C. After 27 hr, the acidity (0.216 ± 0.016 mg KOH/g) and the total oxidation value (TOTOX) (69.30 ± 0.26) values of E2 oil were significantly lower than the control. These results showed that P. tridentatum effectively improved the shelf-life and thermal stability of sunflower oil, being a promising source of antioxidants for edible oils processing. Afterwards, several catalytic reactions can take place on the surface of the Pt nuclei to produce more CO, which also serves as a capping agent for the formation of Pt nanocrystals enclosed by 100 facets. The emergence of Pt nanocrystals further promotes the autocatalytic surface reduction of PtII precursor to enable the continuation of growth. This work not only elucidates the critical roles of OAc at different stages in a synthesis of Pt nanocrystals, but also represents a pivotal step forward toward the rational synthesis of metal nanocrystals.

Other factors such as improvements in healthcare and differential exposure misclassification might also contribute to the changes.The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) human genetic study (i.e., The Neel and Schull, 1956a report) showed an absence of genetic damage in offspring of atomic bomb survivors in support of a threshold model, but was not considered for evaluation by the NAS Biological Effects of Atomic Radiation (BEAR) I Genetics Panel. The study therefore could not impact the Panel's decision to recommend the linear non-threshold (LNT) dose-response model for risk assessment. Summaries and transcripts of the Panel meetings failed to reveal an evaluation of this study, despite its human relevance and ready availability, relying instead on data from Drosophila and mice. This paper explores correspondence among and between BEAR Genetics Panel members, including James Néel, the study director, and other contemporaries to assess why the Panel failed to use these data and how the decision to recommend the LNT model affected future cancer risk assessment policies and practices. This failure of the Genetics Panel was due to (1) a strongly unified belief in the LNT model among panel members and their refusal to acknowledge that a low dose of radiation could exhibit a threshold, a conclusion that the Néel/Schull atomicbomb study could support, and (2) an excessive degree of self-interest among panel members who experimented with animal models, such as Hermann J. Muller, and feared that human genetic studies would expose the limitations of extrapolating from animal (especially Drosophila) to human responses and would strongly shift research investments/academic grants from animal to human studies. Thus, the failure to consider the Néel/Schull atomic bomb study served both the purposes of preserving the LNT policy goal and ensuring the continued dominance of Muller and his similarly research-oriented colleagues.Many methods have been proposed to estimate Y-STR haplotype probabilities in a population, but no consensus has been achieved. In this paper a consistency principle for statistical models to provide such probabilities is proposed, in which it is required that the probability of a given haplotype profile on n loci cannot exceed that of any sub-haplotype matching on any n - 1 or fewer loci. If this consistency principle is violated by a Y haplotype probability model, then it could render the presentation of such probabilities highly problematic in a courtroom setting. We show, using publicly available datasets and two recently proposed graphical models for estimating probabilities of Y-STR haplotypes for illustration, that such violations can occur, and that the violations can in some instances be quite large. Some implications of this are discussed.Meiofauna particularly marine nematodes around the Caiwei Guyot in the northwest Pacific Ocean and a Polymetallic Nodule Field in the northeast Pacific Ocean were studied. Due to the geographic structure, the Caiwei Guyot and the Polymetallic Nodule Field had different environmental characteristics. Meiofaunal abundances around the Guyot area ranged from 9.18 to 25.59 ind./10 cm2, which were much lower than those in the Polymetallic Nodule Field. Marine nematode was the most dominant group. A total of 123 species, belonging to 74 genera and 29 families were found. Xyalidae (21.43%), Cyatholaimidae (9.82%), Linhomoeidae (8.03%) were the dominant families. The values of species number, Margalef's species richness and Shannon-Wiener diversity index ranged from 15 to 62, 4.75 to 12.84 and 2.58 to 3.93, respectively. The combination of water depth, silt-clay content and chlorophyll-a concentration can best explain the differences of nematode community. Polymer particles and fibreglass adhered to the filament hairs on appendages, including the caudal spine, in exposed organisms. Most importantly, swimming impairment and sinking of the animals were recorded shortly after exposure. The potential implications for severe localized impact of GRP on aquatic environment are discussed.

  • Hemorrhage is recognized as a new independent predictor of adverse outcomes following acute myocardial infarction. However, the mechanisms of its effects are less understood. The aim of our study was to probe the downstream impact of hemorrhage towards chronic remodeling, including inflammation, vasodilator function and matrix alterations in an experimental model of hemorrhage. Myocardial hemorrhage was induced in the porcine heart by intracoronary injection of collagenase. Animals (N = 18) were subjected to coronary occlusion followed by reperfusion in three groups (six/group) 8 min ischemia with hemorrhage (+HEM), 45 min infarction with no hemorrhage (I - HEM) and 45 min infarction with hemorrhage (I + HEM). MRI was performed up to 4 weeks after intervention. Cardiac function, edema (T2 , T1 ), hemorrhage (T2 *), vasodilator function (T2 BOLD), infarction and microvascular obstruction (MVO) and partition coefficient (pre- and post-contrast T1 ) were computed. Hemorrhage was induced only in the +HEM and I + progressing towards heart failure.Scaffold-guided formation of neuronal-like networks, especially under electrical stimulation, can be an appealing avenue toward functional restoration of injured nervous systems. Here, 3D conductive scaffolds are fabricated based on printed microfiber constructs using near-field electrostatic printing (NFEP) and graphene oxide (GO) coating. Various microfiber patterns are obtained from poly(l-lactic acid-co-caprolactone) (PLCL) using NFEP and complexity is achieved via modulating the fiber overlay angles (45°, 60°, 75°, 90°), fiber diameters (15 to 148 µm), and fiber spatial organization (spider web and tubular structure). Upon coating GO onto PLCL microfibers via a layer-by-layer (L-b-L) assembly technique and in situ reduction into reduced GO (rGO), the obtained conductive scaffolds, with 25-50 layers of rGO, demonstrate superior conductivity (≈0.95 S cm-1 ) and capability of inducing neuronal-like network formation along the conductive microfibers under electrical stimulation (100-150 mV cm-1 ). Both electric field (0-150 mV cm-1 ) and microfiber diameter (17-150 µm) affect neurite outgrowth (PC-12 cells and primary mouse hippocampal neurons) and the formation of orientated neuronal-like networks. With further demonstration of such guidance to neuronal cells, these conductive scaffolds may see versatile applications in nerve regeneration and neural engineering.
    To analyze the viability of incorporating genomic medicine technology into the process of detecting and diagnosing chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) at primary-care facilities in Mexico, and to discuss its implications for health systems in other countries with similar characteristics.

    We conducted 29 semi-structured interviews with health authorities as well as providers and users of health services in the state of Morelos. We investigated knowledge of genomic technology among interviewees; the accessibility, management, and organization of health services; and CNCDs prevention, control, and care practices.

    The incorporation of genomic medicine technology into the CNCDs primary-care process is viable. However, the following challenges were identified a lack of knowledge and limited information among interviewees regarding the effectiveness and benefits of genomic medicine technology, coupled with the need to mobilize and reassign trained human resources for drawing, registering, safeguarding, transporting, and controlling the quality of the genetic samples, as well as for the outsourcing of private laboratory services.

    Using genetic information to detect CNCDs at an early stage offers an enormous potential for upgrading CNCDs prevention and control efforts. This, in turn, could translate into more efficient and financially sustainable health systems in Mexico and other low- and middle-income countries.

Surprisingly, thus far not so many studies have tested directly these mechanisms in models of AD in which LC has been lesioned experimentally.   • Purpose The study aimed to, identify possible patient and tumor-related factors associated whit the risk of stage III disease in non-metastatic colon cancer. Method The association between stage III disease and age, sex, lymph node yield, pathologic T (pT) stage, tumor subsite, type of surgery and priority of surgery was assessed in a nationwide cohort of 13,766 patients treated by curative resection of colon cancer. Each level of age, lymph node yield and pT stage was compared to the preceding level. Results Age, lymph node yield, pT stage, tumor sub site and priority of surgery were associated with stage III disease. Odds ratios (OR) were as follow Age =18 0.97 (95% CI 0.89-1.05). pT1/ pT2 0.74 (95% CI 0.57-0.95), pT2/ pT3 0.35 (95% CI 0.30-0.40), pT3/ pT4 0.49 (95% CI 0.47-0.54). Only tumors of the transverse colon were independently associated with a lower risk of stage III disease than tumors in the sigmoid colon Sigmoid colon 1, transverse colon 0.84 (95% CI 0.73-0.96). Elective surgery 1, Acute surgery 1.43 (95% CI 1.29-1.60). Conclusion In this study, stage III disease in colon cancer was significantly associated with age, lymph node yield, pT-stage, tumor subsite and priority of surgery, but not right sided location, compared with stage I and II cancers.Biased evaluation fears and paranoid thoughts lead to various safety behaviors that are the cardinal features and perpetuating factors of social anxiety. The present study aimed to emphasize evaluative and paranoid thoughts that predispose and maintain this growing psychological condition. A cross-sectional research design was employed to explore the relationship between social comparison, paranoid social cognitions, and submissive behaviors in patients with social anxiety. Furthermore, predictive effects of social comparison and paranoid ideation on submissiveness, along with mediating factors, were assessed in a clinical sample. The study sample consisted of 100 treatment-seeking female patients of social anxiety (M = 25.21 years), recruited through purposive sampling. The findings revealed significant correlations between social comparison, paranoid social cognitions, and submissive behaviors. Rank, a subscale of social comparison, and paranoid social cognitions turned out as predictive factors of submissive behaviors. A novel finding is that paranoid social cognitions mediate the relationship between social comparison and submissive behaviors in socially anxious individuals. Study results will assist clinicians to devise effective management plans for patients by comprehending possible causes of submissiveness and considering paranoid ideation as a manifestation of social anxiety. © 2020 The Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.The current study aimed to examine the role of psychological detachment in the relationship between working conditions and burnout and depression. First, the study proposed that job demands would increase burnout after four months but not depression. Second, it proposed that psychological detachment would moderate the impact of job demands and job resources on burnout and depression. Third, it was proposed that the interaction between job demands, job resources and psychological detachment would predict burnout and depression. The longitudinal study design involved 345 workers (at both Time 1 and Time 2). The hierarchical regression analysis showed that increasing psychological detachment reduced the negative relationship between physical demands and depression four months later. In contrast, high psychological detachment increased the negative association between emotional resources and burnout, but not between emotional resources and depression. Overall, this study, in its discovery of the impact of working conditions on psychological health, has made a new contribution to psychological detachment studies by using different sub-constructs of job demands and job resources (i.e., emotional and physical) with four-month gaps, as previous studies did not address the impact within this time frame. © 2020 Scandinavian Psychological Associations and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Dual-frequency irradiation chemical exchange saturation transfer (dualCEST) allows imaging of endogenous bulk mobile proteins by selectively measuring the intramolecular spin diffusion. The resulting specificity to changes in the concentration, molecular size, and folding state of mobile proteins is of particular interest as a marker for neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Until now, application of dualCEST in clinical trials was prevented by the inherently small signal-to-noise ratio and the resulting comparatively long examination time. In this study, we present an optimized acquisition protocol allowing 3D dualCEST-MRI examinations in a clinically relevant time frame. The optimization comprised the extension of the image readout to 3D, allowing a retrospective co-registration and application of denoising strategies. In addition, cosine-modulated dual-frequency presaturation pulses were implemented with a weighted acquisition scheme of the necessary frequency offsets. The optimization resulted in a signal-to-noise ratio gain by a factor of approximately 8. In particular, the application of denoising and the motion correction were the most crucial improvement steps. However, vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity is an increasing burden, particularly in patients with complex life-threatening conditions. Vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity associated with clinically relevant exposure on the target site has not been well defined. This study aimed to acquire the concentration of vancomycin in the renal tubules and kidneys in humans using physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling and simulation. Based upon the exposure of vancomycin in the renal tubule, the toxicity of vancomycin in human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells was examined with the XTT assay and in vitro metabolomics analysis. A rat PBPK model predicting plasma and kidney concentration-time profiles of vancomycin matched the observed behavior after a single administration of 10 mg/kg. The concentration of vancomycin in renal tubules was about 40-50 times higher than that in plasma. The human PBPK model transferred from the rat model predicted renal tubule concentrations of vancomycin as 316.

Until now, application of dualCEST in clinical trials was prevented by the inherently small signal-to-noise ratio and the resulting comparatively long examination time. In this study, we present an optimized acquisition protocol allowing 3D dualCEST-MRI examinations in a clinically relevant time frame. The optimization comprised the extension of the image readout to 3D, allowing a retrospective co-registration and application of denoising strategies. In addition, cosine-modulated dual-frequency presaturation pulses were implemented with a weighted acquisition scheme of the necessary frequency offsets. The optimization resulted in a signal-to-noise ratio gain by a factor of approximately 8. In particular, the application of denoising and the motion correction were the most crucial improvement steps. However, vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity is an increasing burden, particularly in patients with complex life-threatening conditions. Vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity associated with clinically relevant exposure on the target site has not been well defined. This study aimed to acquire the concentration of vancomycin in the renal tubules and kidneys in humans using physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling and simulation. Based upon the exposure of vancomycin in the renal tubule, the toxicity of vancomycin in human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells was examined with the XTT assay and in vitro metabolomics analysis. A rat PBPK model predicting plasma and kidney concentration-time profiles of vancomycin matched the observed behavior after a single administration of 10 mg/kg. The concentration of vancomycin in renal tubules was about 40-50 times higher than that in plasma. The human PBPK model transferred from the rat model predicted renal tubule concentrations of vancomycin as 316.
