Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated dermatologic disorder with a prevalence among children estimated at 0.1%-0.45%, and a median age of onset at approximately 7-10years. Pediatric psoriasis is known to have negative impacts on health-related quality of life. Among the most bothersome symptoms, itch has been measured using the Itch Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). This study explored the symptom and impacts of itch with pediatric psoriasis patients and evaluated the content validity of the Itch NRS in children.
Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted among a sample of pediatric patients diagnosed with plaque psoriasis.
Concept elicitation interviews were completed with 22 children (ages 7-17years). When asked about most frequent symptoms, 61% reported itching (n=14) and 65% reported flaking (n=15). The majority reported itching as bothersome; about half described impacts on their regular activities. Cognitive interviews were completed with 25 children (ages 8-17years). Most reported that independently completing the Itch NRS would be easy, and all described the meaning of the response options similar to the intended value. Overall, the Itch NRS was received favorably, with comments that the scale was easy or relevant to their experience with psoriasis.

Interestingly, both groups, in spite of having low levels of HDL and moderately elevated plasma triacylglycerols, had no evidence of cardiovascular disease. Moreover, the presence of the cysteine enabled the apoA-I to form both homodimers and heterodimers. Prior to this report, no other mammalian apoA-I has been found with a cysteine in its sequence. In addition, the encoded naked mole-rat protein had different amino acids at sites that were conserved in all other mammals. These differences resulted in naked mole-rat apoA-I having an unexpected neutral pI value, whereas other mammalian apoA-I have negative pI values. To verify these sequence differences and to determine if the N-terminal location of C28 precluded dimer formation, we conducted mass spectrometry analyses of apoA-I and other proteins associated with HDL. Consistent with the genomic data, our analyses confirmed the presence of C28 and the formation of a homodimer. Analysis of plasma lipids surprisingly revealed a profile similar to the human heterozygotes.
In Egypt, primary healthcare workers (PHCWs) often work in challenging situations and in relative isolation from the health system and specialists' experiences. Supervision is currently applied by PHCWs to present practice, control and upgrade knowledge and skills.

Quality assessment of included studies was performed with the Cochrane Collaboration's tool.

Medical errors (MEs) are serious but preventable threats to patient safety. Annually, 421 million hospitalizations take place worldwide, from those an estimation of around 43 million MEs occur. Low-middle income countries account for two-thirds of these MEs.
To examine the prevalence and contributing factors predicting MEs and its reporting among Jordanian nurses and nursing students.
The study used a cross-sectional descriptive design. A total of 178 nursing students and 123 bedside nurses participated in this study. Study data were collected through a five-section newly developed survey.
MEs are highly prevalent in Jordanian hospitals. More than 70% of nurses and nursing students have no previous training in preventing and reporting MEs. The most prevalent type of MEs were related to changing positions for bedridden patients followed by medication errors, iatrogenic infections, and falls. Staff shortage was the main cause of MEs from participants' perspectives.
A central concern of these results is the need for providing effective programs on identifying and preventing MEs in health-care settings and integrate these programs into graduate nursing curriculums.

Symptoms of infectious respiratory illnesses are often assumed to drive transmission. However, production and release of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) bioaerosols is poorly understood. We report quantitation of Mtb exhaled during specific respiratory manoeuvres.
Direct capture of nascent bioaerosol particles and indirect collection of aged particles was performed in 10 healthy subjects. Indirect and direct capture of exhaled viable Mtb bacilli was compared in 38 PTB patients and directly captured viable Mtb during cough and bronchiole-burst manoeuvres in 27 of the PTB patients.
Direct sampling of healthy subjects captured larger bioaerosol volumes with higher proportions of 2-5μm particles than indirect sampling. Indirect sampling identified viable Mtb in 92.1% (35 of 38) of PTB patients during 60-min relaxed breathing, median bacillary count 7.5 (IQR 3.25-19). Direct sampling for 10-min identified Mtb in 97.4% (37 of 38) of PTB patients with higher bacilli counts (p<0.001), median 24.5 (IQR11.25-37.5). A short 5-min sampling regimen of 10 coughs or 10 bronchiole-burst manoeuvres yielded a median of 11 (IQR 4-17) and 11 (IQR 7-17.5) Mtb bacilli, respectively (p=0.53).

However, the role of host-pathogen interactions involved in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is unclear. In this study, we analyzed 6 spinal tuberculosis tissues and 6 herniated disc tissues by using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry coupled with tandem mass spectrometry, and immunohistochemical staining was performed for validating the results. We identified 42 differential immune-related proteins and 3 hub genes that are primarily localised in the tertiary granule and involved in biological processes such as cellular response to the presence of cadmium ions, regulation of ion transmembrane transport, transmembrane transport, and inflammatory responses. Genes encoding cytochrome B-245 beta chain (CYBB), matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9), and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 (CXCL10) were identified as the hub genes that exhibited anti-tuberculosis activity and were responsible for macrophage resistance against M. tuberculosis. In conclusion, CYBB, MMP9, and CXCL10 resist M. tuberculosis infection through chemotaxis and macrophage activation. Our results indicate that CYBB, MMP9, and CXCL10 could be considered as molecular targets for spinal tuberculosis treatment, which may significantly improve patients' quality of life and prognosis.Traffic incidents are one of the most frequent causes of death in young adults worldwide. Here we report a case of an incinerated body involved in a vehicle incident. Differential diagnosis included natural cause of death during driving, fatal traumatic injuries, death due to fire and positional asphyxia. The body was submitted to PMCT prior to autopsy as part of a research protocol (N. 1388/2016) at the Department of Medical Imaging of the University Hospital of Heraklion in Crete, Greece. Unenhanced PMCT revealed craniofacial fractures, a thin film of subdural haemorrhage and an epidural fluid collection. The findings were interpreted as consistent with an impact to the face, causing craniofacial fractures mainly on the right side, and an acute subdural hematoma. Autopsy findings corroborated the diagnosis. The surface of the rotor was designed with spherical holes where the center-to-center distance between them was fixed. Response surface methodology (RSM) using central composite design (CCD) was employed to analyze the design of experiments (DOE) and optimize FFA-content reduction. The optimized conditions were 17.7 vol% methanol, 2.9 vol% sulfuric acid, a 3000 rpm rotor speed, and surface holes measuring 4 mm in diameter and 6 mm in depth. The experimental results showed that the FFA content in MCPO was reduced from 11.456 to 1.028 wt% upon esterification under these optimal conditions. The maximum yield of esterified oil from the phase separation step was 96.07 vol%, and that of the purified esterified oil was 91.27 vol%. The average total energy consumed by this hydrodynamic cavitation reactor to produce this esterified oil was 0.0264 kW h/L. This 3D printed rotor-stator reactor is a promising, novel reactor technology for producing biodiesel from FFA-rich oils.Mild and effective pretreatments are essential to deconstruct lignocellulosic biomass so as to reuse cellulose content for value-added products. In this study, sequential multimode-ultrasound and microwave with natural ternary deep eutectic solvent (NATDES) pretreatments were used to deconstruct corn straw and optimized factors such as NATDES, ultrasonic, and microwave parameters. Results indicated that the ultrasound-NATDES or microwave-NATDES pretreatment could remove 37.86% and 52.36% lignin, respectively. When using sequential multimode-ultrasound and microwave assisted NATDES pretreatment, the delignification efficiency increased to 61.50%, and the cellulose content increased from 34.70% to 76.08%. In addition, the delignification of sequential multimode-ultrasound and microwave assisted NATDES pretreatment (under the mild conditions of microwave heating at 60 °C and 60 min) increased to 57.39%, and the cellulose content increased to 59.98%, too. This highlighted the effect of the combined ultrasound and microwave technology.

BRCA1 mutation carriers are recommended to undergo prophylactic risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) between the ages of 35 and 40 or when child bearing is complete, with a possible delay until age 40-45 for BRCA2 mutation carriers.
Primary outcome was the rate of unsuspected cancer findings during RRSO in a region of northern Italy (Emilia Romagna) and secondary outcomes were details of RRSO age at surgical intervention, the venue of the procedures in relation to the surgical/pathological quality and the rate/role of concomitant opportunistic hysterectomies.

A total of 222 RRSOs (54.5 % BRCA1, 34.7 % BRCA2, 1.8 % BRCA1 and BRCA2 combined, 5.8 % ****-VUS and 3.2 % **** not better specified) were reported from 9 different centres, half in non-university hospitals and the remainder in university hospitals. Breast cancer survivors (56.3 %) underwent the RRSO at a younger age (47.8 vs 50.6 years, p = 0.02). The mean and median ages at surgical intervention (49.0 and 48.0, respectively) were similar for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers, as was the temporal trend in age distribution, and proportions treated in university and non-university hospitals. A diagnosis of ovarian invasive cancer was reported in 3.5 % of subjects, all BRCA1 or ****-combined subjects, at a median and mean age of 57 years (range 42-68). Nocturia was reported in 24.8% (52/210) of the postmenopausal women. Bother increased with every nocturnal void. Women with two or more nighttime voids were found to have significantly increased prevalence of urgency compared with women with only one (p < 0.001; 38.5% versus 22.7%). BRCA1 mutation carriers are recommended to undergo prophylactic risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) between the ages of 35 and 40 or when child bearing is complete, with a possible delay until age 40-45 for BRCA2 mutation carriers. Primary outcome was the rate of unsuspected cancer findings during RRSO in a region of northern Italy (Emilia Romagna) and secondary outcomes were details of RRSO age at surgical intervention, the venue of the procedures in relation to the surgical/pathological quality and the rate/role of concomitant opportunistic hysterectomies. Surgical pump exchange was deemed to confer prohibitive risk due to her underlying medical co-morbidities and therefore not an option for treatment. After careful consideration of possible options for treatment, she received systemic thrombolysis (Alteplase 5 mg IV bolus followed by 3 mg/hour infusion for 10 hours through a central line) which was successful. This case highlights, not only the rarity of bilateral VADs as destination therapy, but also demonstrates the safety and efficacy of using systemic thrombolytics in patients with bilateral HVADs for treatment of pump thrombosis.Adamantinoma-like Ewing sarcoma (ALES) is a rare variant of Ewing sarcoma. It demonstrates heterogeneous morphologic pattern and complex immunophenotypic profile, with a peculiar combination of epithelial and neuroendocrine differentiation. ALES is rarely reported in the head and neck areas, including the parotid salivary gland. Till now, only 10 cases of ALES have been reported in the salivary glands. Herein, we report two cases of ALES involving the parotid gland, adding some valuable insight to the recently reported cases at this site.This is a report of rare cases of full-term infants born with persistent tunica vasculosa lentis (TVL) with no retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and no plus disease. This condition can be mistaken with iris vascular enlargement-associated plus disease, leading to unnecessary laser or intravitreal injections. The cases were treated with close observation, which resulted in complete resolution of the TVL. Patients who completed the questionnaire and answered all questions in relation to marijuana use and the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease in 2017 were a part of this study. Subjects were excluded if they were children ( less then 18 years old) or had missing data for marijuana use or cardiovascular disease. Age, gender, race/ethnicity, body mass index (BMI), income, exercise, tobacco uslends support to the notion that marijuana use does not have an association with cardiovascular disease. A limitation in our study was that there was missing data from the BRFSS questionnaire due to participants not fully answering all questions concerning cardiovascular disease and marijuana use. This decreased our sample size from 67,974 to 56,742 subjects. The missing participants led to a decrease in the power of our odds ratio, which may have impacted statistical significance of our results. We report and analyze eight cases in which patients were referred from gastroenterology (GI) to otolaryngology following esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). We aim to provide specific examples of head and neck pathology encountered by gastroenterologists during upper endoscopy.
A series of eight cases between 2016 and 2019 were analyzed by chart review. In each case, otolaryngology consultation was requested after an abnormality was noticed by a gastroenterologist during EGD. Subsequent laryngoscopy or bronchoscopy was performed in all cases allowing for image comparison.Select images comparing EGD to laryngoscopy findings are included as well as a literature review concerning the nature of communication between the two specialties.

Osteosarcomas and skin cancers are typically associated with this syndrome. We present a rare case of signet-ring cell gastric adenocarcinoma in a patient with RTS.Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the world. Multi-drug resistant TB can lead to short-term and long-term sequelae causing clinical, psychosocial, and financial burden on the diseased. Pregnancy in a woman with compromised pulmonary function is a challenge for the treating obstetrician. A multidisciplinary approach involving a respiratory physician, pre-conceptional counseling, and delivery at a tertiary care center can reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. Compliance with anti-tubercular treatment with regular follow-up can minimize the long term effects of pulmonary TB. We report a case of unilateral lung collapse due to multidrug-resistant pulmonary TB in pregnancy with good maternal and fetal outcomes.

The relationship between optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements of the retinal structures has been described for various neurological diseases including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Brain volume changes, both globally and by area, are associated with some of these same diseases, yet the correlation of OCT and disease is not fully elucidated. Our study looked at normal subjects, at the correlation of OCT measurements and brain volumes, both globally and for specific regions including the pericalcarine grey matter, entorhinal grey matter, and cerebellar volume using a retrospective, cross-sectional cohort study design. Thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) as measured by OCT, correlated with volume of the pericalcarine grey matter, when adjusted for age and gender. Similarly, thickness of the ganglion cell layer-inner plexiform layer complex may be associated with both entorhinal grey matter volumes and total cerebellar volumes, although our pilot study did not reach statistical significance. This suggests that both eye and brain volumes follow a similar trajectory and understanding the inter-relationship of these structures will aid in the analysis of changes seen in disease. Further studies are needed to longitudinally demonstrate these relationships.
Pharmacological differences among different drug classes influence human cognition, visual, and motor behavior in different ways. These differences impact driving safety, and therefore individuals who use stimulant and opioid drugs might experience different patterns in driving safety and impairment in driving performance. This study examined the effect of long-term use of stimulant drugs and of opiate drugs on driving performance, hazard perception, visual search skills and psychomotor skills related to driving.
A total of 75 individuals, including 28 predominantly stimulant users, 22 predominantly opiate users and 25 healthy non-drug users, participated. Driving performance and psychomotor skills were assessed via a 15-minute drive in a simulator; hazard perception was assessed via a computerized task; and visual search skill was assessed by eye tracking.
ANOVA analyses indicate both stimulant and opiate users drove at higher speeds and experienced more crashes than the healthy non-drug users. In this study, we sampled 117 accessions of Astragalus and its close relatives, covering 55 sections of the genus plus 30 outgroup taxa to recover the main clades of eastern Asian Astragalus based on sequences of the whole chloroplast genome and 65 chloroplast CDSs. Astragalus is supported to be monophyletic and it is sister to the Oxytropis + Coluteoid clade. Within Astragalus, we recovered ten clades, and the ten clades differ substantially from Bunge's subgenera. The former segregate genus Astracantha is also monophyletic, but embedded within Astragalus s. str., supporting the merge of the spiny former genus Astracantha with Astragalus. We detected the atpF intron losses in the chloroplast genome of the Oxytropis + Coluteoid clade, i.e., the sister clade to Astragalus. Furthermore, we estimated the ancestral states of the trichome morphology and habit via the Bayesian Binary Method. The medifixed hair type is inferred to have developed at least five times and the annual habit originated at least six times. In addition, Astragalus is estimated to have originated in the mid Miocene (stem age, 16.09 Ma, 95% HPD 12.46-20.50 Ma). The divergence times of the medifixed hair groups ranged from 4.03 to 0.87 Ma, mostly 2-1 Ma, which are correlated with the estimated phased uplifts of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). We hypothesize that the uplifts of the QTP, which contributed to aridification in eastern Asia and the adjacent regions, may have accelerated the rapid speciation of Astragalus, especially the xerophilous groups (i.e. the medifixed hair groups).
The relationship between optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements of the retinal structures has been described for various neurological diseases including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Brain volume changes, both globally and by area, are associated with some of these same diseases, yet the correlation of OCT and disease is not fully elucidated. Our study looked at normal subjects, at the correlation of OCT measurements and brain volumes, both globally and for specific regions including the pericalcarine grey matter, entorhinal grey matter, and cerebellar volume using a retrospective, cross-sectional cohort study design. Thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) as measured by OCT, correlated with volume of the pericalcarine grey matter, when adjusted for age and gender. Similarly, thickness of the ganglion cell layer-inner plexiform layer complex may be associated with both entorhinal grey matter volumes and total cerebellar volumes, although our pilot study did not reach statistical significance. This suggests that both eye and brain volumes follow a similar trajectory and understanding the inter-relationship of these structures will aid in the analysis of changes seen in disease. Further studies are needed to longitudinally demonstrate these relationships. Pharmacological differences among different drug classes influence human cognition, visual, and motor behavior in different ways. These differences impact driving safety, and therefore individuals who use stimulant and opioid drugs might experience different patterns in driving safety and impairment in driving performance. This study examined the effect of long-term use of stimulant drugs and of opiate drugs on driving performance, hazard perception, visual search skills and psychomotor skills related to driving. A total of 75 individuals, including 28 predominantly stimulant users, 22 predominantly opiate users and 25 healthy non-drug users, participated. Driving performance and psychomotor skills were assessed via a 15-minute drive in a simulator; hazard perception was assessed via a computerized task; and visual search skill was assessed by eye tracking. ANOVA analyses indicate both stimulant and opiate users drove at higher speeds and experienced more crashes than the healthy non-drug users. Its uncertain phylogenetic relationships within tribe Anthemideae (Asteraceae) point to an Early Miocene divergence from its sister group, and its persistent taxonomic instability has been proposed to be due to hybridization. We aim at understanding the evolutionary history of this genus using SNPs called from a genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) analysis, Sanger sequences-from three plastid DNA regions (psbJ-petA, petB-petD, trnH-psbA) and the nuclear ribosomal ITS regions (cloned)-as well as leaf morphometric multivariate analysis. The amounts of water and NO3- transferred into the organic layer demonstrated their synergistic effect on extracting metal ions. It was utilized for the fabrication of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix-based anion exchange membrane (AEM). Presence of 27 wt% charged amino acids and 19 wt% polarizable amino acids in the HH provided effective charge transfer sites. 7 wt% arginine present in the HH, having continuous delocalized net positive charge helped the membrane to be stable in highly alkaline conditions, which was confirmed by an indirect analysis of alkaline stability. Formation of rod and flower shaped crystal morphology by the HH in glutaraldehyde crosslinked PVA matrix, created a continuous channel network at higher loadings, which provided a simple path for ion transfer, achieving OH- conductivity of 7.46 mS/cm at 70 °C. Swelling of the PVA matrix was minimized by annealing of the HH loaded sample, which resulted in reduction of ionic conductivity to 6.16 mS/cm (at 70 °C). At the same time, improvement in the properties like increase in thermal, mechanical and thermo-mechanical stability, reduction in water uptake, %swelling and methanol permeability was observed. The selectivity of the membrane was increased to almost a decimal place. As expected, this unique structure not only inhibited the nanoparticles agglomeration, but also provided a "highway" that accelerated the Co3+/Co2+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ redox cycles. Therefore, CoFe-NMT-800 (0.1 g/L, pyrolyzed at 800 °C) achieved over 90% tetracycline (TC, 30 mg/L, 0.1821 min-1) removal after 30 min at a wide pH (2.55-9.55) by coupling with peroxymonosulfate (PMS, 0.3 g/L), which dramatically outperformed the majority of the reported catalysts (such as Co3O4, CoFe alloy, CoFe2O4 and N-doped carbon nanotubes, etc.). Additionally, CoFe-NMTs-800 also exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the existence of inorganic anions (Cl-, HCO3- and H2PO4-) and natural organic matters (humic acid (HA)). Subsequently, CoFe-NMTs-800 was immobilized into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane as catalytic self-cleaning membrane via applying phase-inversion technology. It was found that CoFe-NMTs-800/PVDF membrane not only maintained high removal efficiency for TC degradation (over 90%) in TC/HA coexistence system, but also effectively eliminated the adverse effect of membrane fouling. When analyzing the chest wall and thoracic region, ultrasound has previously been shown to reliably identify chest wall pathologies like rib fracture and slipping rib syndrome, as well as having fundamentally changed perioperative management and patient outcomes after the emergence of point-of-care ultrasound. In addition, ultrasound guidance has recently become more popular for multiple blocks in the field of regional anesthesia and pain medicine. In this technical report, we systematize an ultrasound-guided protocol for counting ribs and thoracic levels for both posterior and anterior approaches, which does not require level confirmation by fluoroscopy. With this protocol, we hope to create an effective educational resource to support physicians from any specialty background as they engage in point-of-care ultrasound applications in the thoracic region.
The involvement of HBV DNA integration in promoting hepatocarcinogenesis and the extent to which the intrahepatic HBV reservoir modulates liver disease progression remains poorly understood. We examined the intrahepatic HBV reservoir, the occurrence of HBV DNA integration and its impact on the hepatocyte transcriptome in hepatitis B 'e' antigen (HBeAg)-negative chronic hepatitis B (CHB).
Liver tissue from 84 HBeAg-negative patients with CHB with low (n=12), moderate (n=25) and high (n=47) serum HBV DNA was analysed. Covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA), pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) were evaluated by quantitative PCR, whole exome and transcriptome sequencing was performed by Illumina, and the burden of HBV DNA integrations was evaluated by digital droplet PCR.
Patients with low and moderate serum HBV DNA displayed comparable intrahepatic cccDNA and pgRNA, significantly lower than in patients with high HBV DNA, while hepatitis B core-related antigen correlated strongly with the intrahepatic HBV reservoir, reir; localising in genes involved in carcinogenesis and altering the hepatocyte transcriptome.

More than 30 000 individuals irrespective of their age, sex, acute/past COVID-19 infection participated in the serosurvey which covered all the 75 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) across 48 wards and 7 zones of the city. Study also involved healthcare workers (HCWs) from COVID-19/non-COVID-19 hospitals.
Seropositivity of IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 was measured as a mark of COVID-19 infection.
Seropositivity was used to calculate cumulative incidence. Correlation of seropositivity with available demographic detail was used for valid and precise assessment of the pandemic situation.
From 30 054 samples, the results were available for 29 891 samples and the crude seropositivity is 17.61%. For all the various age groups, the seropositivity calculated between 15% and 20%. The difference The data indicate the possibility of vanishing immunity over time and need further research to cross verify with scientific evidences.
High blood pressure (BP) in acute stroke has adverse outcomes. Transdermal glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) has beneficial properties in controlling BP. The 2016 meta-analysis and 2017 Cochrane review showed that transdermal GTN was beneficial in a small patient subgroup with stroke onset ≤6 hours. Larger studies focusing on this patient subgroup have since been conducted. We report the protocol for an updated systematic review and meta-analysis on the safety and benefits of transdermal GTN in acute stroke.
We will search Medline, Pubmed, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane Library from inception until June 2020 for randomised trials that report the efficacy and safety of transdermal GTN versus placebo/control therapy among adult patients with acute stroke. Primary outcomes include in-hospital mortality, BP lowering and late functional status. Secondary outcomes include early, late, resource utilisation and surrogate outcomes. Safety outcomes include reported adverse events. Reviewers will first screen titles and abstraresults will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of microfinance health interventions (health insurance and health-awareness programmes) on health-related outcomes among female informal workers in Pakistan.
We conducted a retrospective, quasi-experimental study among a total of 442 female borrowers from seven microfinance providers (MFPs) across four provinces of Pakistan in 2018. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to assess the overall impact of health interventions.
Four health-related outcomes reported by the women were used perception of good health overall, ability to visit a general practitioner, ability to purchase prescribed medicine and intake of multivitamins.
We found that women receiving health interventions had a greater probability of better health outcomes when they wer equity across female population groups for health interventions will in the long run improve poor women's health, income-earning abilities and capacity expansion for small businesses.
Intrinsic capacity (IC) was proposed by the WHO as a new concept for capturing an individual's functional capacities across their lifetime. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with IC decline and examine associations between IC and adverse outcomes among community-dwelling older adults in China.

Data were derived from the China Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Study, a population-based nationally representative sample. Liver tissue from 84 HBeAg-negative patients with CHB with low (n=12), moderate (n=25) and high (n=47) serum HBV DNA was analysed. As of September 2020, more than 750 completed, ongoing, or planned clinical trials of drugs intended to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication have been registered on the ClinicalTrials.gov or WHO International Clinical Trials Platform websites. Most of the treatments studied in these trials are repurposed licensed or investigational drugs targeting viral proteins or cellular pathways required for virus replication. The use of repurposed compounds is understandable because with the exception of monoclonal antibodies, it will be several months before novel SARS-CoV-2-specific drugs will be available for human testing. Multi-visceral resections and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy has been utilized selectively for patients with locally advanced tumors who have demonstrated disease control on preoperative chemotherapy. This review summarizes the current standard of surgical care for gastroesophageal junction and gastric cancer as well as highlights recent and upcoming advances to the field.Recently mucosal barrier therapies have been either CE marked or licensed by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as medical devices. A barrier therapy (BT) uses a physical non-drug mode of action as its sole mechanism to manage a clinical syndrome. A BT is verified as technically or biologically safe having efficacy that has been proven by valid clinical trials. However, it remains unclear what anatomical portions of the mucosa are physically engaged by any given BT. Therefore, this article clarifies the physical basis for clinical efficacy of any given mucosal BT's. Current regulatory classification of medical devices is defined. More importantly, the biology of mucosal barrier is detailed by structure, compartmental elements and function. A live-function or cross-sectional anatomical perspective of the mucosa is provided. A cross-sectional anatomical perspective of the mucosa is provided in order to highlight the physical point of contact for any given mucosal BT's. Five traits of an effective mucosal BT are proposed to assess traits of fitness for any given BT.

While premature delivery is effective in ameliorating immediate risk to the mother, mounting evidence suggests that PE increases risk of cardiovascular disease later in life for both mother and baby. Notably, these women are at increased risk of hypertension, heart disease, and stroke, while offspring are at risk of obesity, hypertension, and neurological disease, among other complications, later in life. The possibility of using fig seed powder in biscuits was investigated. For this purpose, wheat flour was replaced by fig seed powder at levels of 0, 5, 10, and 15%. The effects of replacement on proximate composition, color values, total phenolic contents, antioxidant activity, textural characteristics, and sensorial properties of biscuit samples were investigated. The composition of fig seed powder showed a significantly higher concentration of fiber (56.6 ± 0.27%), protein (14.32 ± 0.21%), fat (20.32 ± 0.32%), and total phenolic content (665.12 ± 0.52 mg GAE/100 g). The biscuit samples were obtained with increased fiber content by adding fig seed powder to the biscuit formulation. Moreover, fig seed powder increased the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of biscuits significantly (P less then 0.05). The addition of fig seed powder to the biscuit formulation up to 10% increased the sensory scores of the biscuits in terms of odor, flavor, and overall impression. From the crystal and computed structures of 1, 2, and 3, we observe that the cavity size of these azo-macrocycles decreases gradually upon E→Z photoisomerization. Moreover, light-controlled host-guest complexations between azo-macrocycle 1 and guest molecules (7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane, terephthalonitrile) are successfully achieved. This work provides a simple and effective method to prepare azo-macrocycles, and the light-responsive molecular-encapsulation systems in this work may further advance the design and applications of novel photo-responsive host-guest systems.In this study, three skimmed and one whole-fat spray-dried camel milk powders were produced and their characteristics were compared to those of bovine milk powders. The physicochemical analysis of the produced powders indicated that camel milk powders (whether skimmed or not) presented higher ash and whey protein contents as compared to those of bovine milk powders. Our results indicated that the investigated camel and bovine milk powders exhibited a high solubility index (>99%) with poor dispersibility and wettability indexes due to their small particles size (d50 ≤ 12 µm) and their narrow size distribution (span ≤ 2). In addition, although camel and bovine milk powders presented the same total fat content, lower free fat content was measured for camel milk powders. Besides, the whey protein nitrogen index and the SDS-PAGE electrophoresis underlined that camel and bovine milk proteins remained intact after drying with low denaturation extent. It is worth noticed that camel milk proteins were less denaturized due to the absence of the heat-sensitive β-lactoglobulin in camel milk. Moreover, the low denaturation extent participated in the enhancing of the foaming capacity and stability of camel and bovine milk powders. Finally, the calorimetric analysis showed that higher fat melting temperatures were recorded in whole-fat camel milk powder and in their anhydrous form as compared to those of bovine milk. PRACTICAL APPLICATION Camel milk powder is an emerging non-bovine dairy product. Understanding its rehydration ability and evaluating the impact of spray drying on its protein quality are promising approaches to obtain high-quality camel milk powder with high reconstitution ability. However, quantifying total ecosystem response to fire demands consideration of impacts not only on aboveground vegetation, but also on soil microbes like fungi, which influence decomposition and nutrient mineralization. If fire-resistant soil fungal communities co-occur with similarly adapted plants, these above- and belowground ecosystem components should shift and recover in relative synchrony after burning. If not, fire might decouple ecosystem processes governed by these different communities, affecting total functioning. Here, we use a natural experiment to test whether fire-dependent ecosystems host unique, fire-resistant fungal communities. We surveyed burned and unburned areas across two California ecosystem types with differing fire ecologies in the immediate aftermath of a wildfire, finding that the soil fungal communities of fire-dependent oak woodlands differ from those of neighbouring mixed evergreen forests. This work provides a simple and effective method to prepare azo-macrocycles, and the light-responsive molecular-encapsulation systems in this work may further advance the design and applications of novel photo-responsive host-guest systems.In this study, three skimmed and one whole-fat spray-dried camel milk powders were produced and their characteristics were compared to those of bovine milk powders. The physicochemical analysis of the produced powders indicated that camel milk powders (whether skimmed or not) presented higher ash and whey protein contents as compared to those of bovine milk powders. Our results indicated that the investigated camel and bovine milk powders exhibited a high solubility index (>99%) with poor dispersibility and wettability indexes due to their small particles size (d50 ≤ 12 µm) and their narrow size distribution (span ≤ 2). In addition, although camel and bovine milk powders presented the same total fat content, lower free fat content was measured for camel milk powders. Besides, the whey protein nitrogen index and the SDS-PAGE electrophoresis underlined that camel and bovine milk proteins remained intact after drying with low denaturation extent. It is worth noticed that camel milk proteins were less denaturized due to the absence of the heat-sensitive β-lactoglobulin in camel milk. Moreover, the low denaturation extent participated in the enhancing of the foaming capacity and stability of camel and bovine milk powders. Finally, the calorimetric analysis showed that higher fat melting temperatures were recorded in whole-fat camel milk powder and in their anhydrous form as compared to those of bovine milk. PRACTICAL APPLICATION Camel milk powder is an emerging non-bovine dairy product. Understanding its rehydration ability and evaluating the impact of spray drying on its protein quality are promising approaches to obtain high-quality camel milk powder with high reconstitution ability. Findings of this study indicated that spray drying is a suitable technique to produce highly soluble camel milk powders with low denaturation extent. If fire-resistant soil fungal communities co-occur with similarly adapted plants, these above- and belowground ecosystem components should shift and recover in relative synchrony after burning. If not, fire might decouple ecosystem processes governed by these different communities, affecting total functioning. Here, we use a natural experiment to test whether fire-dependent ecosystems host unique, fire-resistant fungal communities. We surveyed burned and unburned areas across two California ecosystem types with differing fire ecologies in the immediate aftermath of a wildfire, finding that the soil fungal communities of fire-dependent oak woodlands differ from those of neighbouring mixed evergreen forests. Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous persons in the United States have an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and death from COVID-19, due to persistent social inequities. However, the magnitude of the disparity is unclear because race/ethnicity information is often missing in surveillance data.
We quantified the burden of SARS-CoV-2 notification, hospitalization, and case fatality rates in an urban county by racial/ethnic group using combined race/ethnicity imputation and quantitative bias analysis for misclassification.
The ratio of the absolute racial/ethnic disparity in notification rates after bias adjustment, compared with the complete case analysis, increased 1.3-fold for persons classified Black and 1.6-fold for those classified Hispanic, in reference to classified White persons.
These results highlight that complete case analyses may underestimate absolute disparities in notification rates. Complete reporting of race/ethnicity information is necessary for health equity. The clinical introduction of a radioactive and fluorescent hybrid tracer allowed for preoperative lymphatic mapping and intraoperative real-time fluorescence tracing of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) by a single injection. The aim of this feasibility study is to evaluate the first-in-human use of the hybrid tracer by combining indocyanine green (ICG) and radiocolloid based on Nanotop compound (99mTc Nanotop) for SLN biopsy (SLNB) in breast cancer patients.
The day before surgery, ICG-99mTc Nanotop was injected periareolarly in breast cancer patients scheduled for SLNB. All 30 preoperative SLNs were localized and excised up to 16 hours after injection. The counts measured via gamma tracing showed a very strong correlation with those measured via near-infrared fluorescent tracing (P < 0.005, r = 0.964). No adverse reactions were observed.

In the suspicion of neoplastic disease, he underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT that did not show abnormal uptake. The nodule was monitored alternating CT and MRI. Two years after the first detection, MRI revealed an increase in size, and 18F-FDG PET/CT was repeated for metabolic evaluation, showing increased metabolic activity. In suspicion of neuroendocrine tumor, for anatomical site, slow growth, and clinical symptoms, 68Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT was performed showing focal uptake, indicating high expression of somatostatin receptors. The final pathology report was consistent with high-grade leiomyosarcoma.

Biohydrogen production and integration possibilities are vital towards hydrogen economy and sustainability of the environment. Acidogenic fermentation is acquiring great interest and it is one of the prime pathways to produce biohydrogen and short chain carboxylic acids. In addition to hydrogen recovery, simultaneously nearly 60 percent of the organics may get converted to ethanol, 1,3propanediol and organic acids. Besides, these organics (fermentative effluents) can be used indirectly as a raw material for the generation of value- added products such as biolipid, polyhydroxyalkanoates, excess hydrogen, methane and electrical energy recovery. In this regard, this review has been assessed as a valuable biorefinery for biofuel and value- added products recovery. The biorefinery can be used to minimize entire cost of the approach by obtaining extra profits.This study was aimed at remediation ofoily waste contaminated area by utilizing a newly obtained bacterium. For experimental setup three different approachessuch as bioaugmentation, natural attenuation and abiotic factors were employed. In bioaugmented experimental set up (treatment withP. aeruginosaNCIM 5514),76.14 ± 0.85% loss in oily waste with notable hydrocarbon utilizers was noted in 56 days. From the results, it was concluded that bioaugmentation with novel P. aeruginosasp. (oily waste degrader) could remediate oily waste pollution effectively. In this study, we developed a method for the biosynthesis of PCA in Pseudomonas putida KT2440 in high yield. First, we developed constitutive promoters with different expression intensities for fine-tuned gene expression. Second, we improved the biosynthesis of "natural" PCA in P. putida KT2440 via multilevel metabolic engineering strategies overexpression of rate-limiting enzymes, removal of negative regulators, attenuation of pathway competition, and enhancement of precursor supply. Finally, by further bioprocess engineering efforts, the best-producing strain reached a titer of 12.5 g/L PCA from glucose at 72 h in a shake flask and 21.7 g/L in fed-batch fermentation without antibiotic pressure. This was the highest PCA titer from glucose using metabolically engineered microbial cell factories reported to date.Lignin is the renewable and abundant source of aromatics on earth, and the depolymerization of lignin provides significant potential for producing valuable monophenols. The introduction of Cu in catalysts further promoted the hydrogen donor process of ethanol/isopropanol solvent and facilitated the cleavage of lignin linkages, resulting in the decreased molecular weight of bio-oil. The possible lignin dimer type structures, such as diphenylethane (β-1) type, phenylcoumaran (β-5) type, and pinoresinol (β-β) type structures, were proposed and identified by MALDI-TOF MS, giving a better understanding of the NiCu/C catalyzed lignin depolymerization.Syngas from biomass or steel mills can be fermented into a dilute stream of ethanol and acetic acid, which requires energy intensive distillation for product recovery. Scaling up confirmed the role of pH and culture type in production of renewable fuels and platform molecules from brewery spent grains.

Statistical optimization yielded dual products in the medium augmented with glucose (4.0% w/v) and tryptone (0.5% w/v) as carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. The purified PHA was polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), and pigment constitutes of violacein (50-60%) and deoxyviolacein (40-50%). A bench-scale bioprocess in 22.0 L fermentor with 20% dissolved O2 supply produced PHB (11.0 ± 1.0 g/L, 58% of dry cell mass) and violacein pigment (1.5 ± 0.08 g/L). PHB obtained was used for the preparation of bioplastic film. Violacein pigment experimentally validated for anticancerous and antimicrobial activities. In summary, a commercially implied bioprocess developed for the co-production of PHB and violacein pigment using the Himalayan bacterium.This two-phase, two-stage study analyzed production of biohydrogen and volatile fatty acids by acidogenic fermentation of brewery spent grains. Phase-1 served to optimize the effect of pH (4-10) on acidogenic fermentation; whereas phase-2 validated the optimized conditions by scaling up the process to 2 L, 5 L, and 10 L. Alkaline conditions (pH 9) yielded excellent cumulative H2 production (834 mL) and volatile fatty acid recovery (8936 mg/L) in phase-1. Extended fermentation time (from 5 to 10 days) upgraded the accumulated short-chain fatty acids (C2-C4) to medium-chain fatty acids (C5-C6). Enrichment for acidogens in modified mixed culture improved fatty acid production; while their consumption by methanogens in unmodified culture led to methane formation. Increased CH4 but decreased H2 content enabled biohythane generation.
