There were no significant differences in hip range of motion, lateral center edge angle, or in acetabular depth. There was, however, a significant difference in acetabular version at 3 o'clock between the two test groups (18.5 ± 6.9° in negative, 21.2 ± 4.9° in positive, P = 0.045). There was no association between PART and previously described anterior apprehension testing. Historical methods of diagnosing hip dysplasia may not adequately identify patients with clinical hip instability. We describe a new provocative exam, the PART, which may be helpful in replicating hip instability symptoms in patients with anterior acetabular undercoverage. A total of 396 patients completed the follow-up and were labelled 'Responders' (R) and 107 patients responded after reminders were sent and labelled 'Initial non-responders' (INR). The mean time of follow-up was 24.7 ± 2.9 and 42.5 ± 7.0 months for the R- and INR-group, respectively. There were no differences between the two groups at the follow-up for the Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score, European Quality of life 5 dimensions questionnaire, EQ-VAS, International Hip Outcome Tool or a visual analogue scale for hip function. A larger proportion of R was satisfied after hip arthroscopy compared with INR (86% versus 70%, P = 0.0003). INR were younger than responders (31.5 ± 12.5 versus 35.6 ± 12.7 years of age). Of the included patients, 28 underwent secondary operations (7.59%), with 14 undergoing secondary arthroscopies (3.79%) and 14 converting to total hip arthroplasty (3.79%). For mHHS, 267 (72.4%), 173 (46.9%) and 277 (75.1%) hips met MCID, SCB and PASS, respectively. For iHOT-12, 234 (63.4%), 218 (59.1%) and 280 (75.9%) hips met the respective thresholds. The highest specificity, sensitivity and accuracy were identified as for iHOT-12 MCID (0.79), iHOT-12 PASS (0.79) and iHOT-12 MCID (0.77), respectively. Patients not attaining MCID and PASS for mHHS and iHOT-12 at 1-year post-operatively are at increased risk of secondary operation. The most accurate threshold associated with secondary operation (0.77) is not achieving iHOT-12 MCID. Waste disposal, metal plating, refineries, and mining operations frequently contaminate soils with nickel (Ni). We explored the effects of artificial Ni contamination (0, 56, and 180 mg Ni kg-1) on the soil biochemical indices. The lab experiment also investigated the possible use of kunai grass (Imperata cylindrica) biochar at a 0.75% dry weight basis to alleviate contamination effects. The biochemical indices such as dehydrogenase enzyme activity, acid phosphatase enzyme activity, and soil respiration rates were monitored in three replications. High level of Ni (180 mg kg-1) suppressed soil respiration rate by 37% and dehydrogenase activity by 62% up to 15 days. The acid phosphatase activity was not affected by Ni levels and was insensitive to Ni contamination. Biochar application to the Ni contaminated soil did not improve the soil's key biological properties. The beneficial effects of biochar could be limited to improvements in soil chemical properties and not on index biological properties.
To evaluate the accuracy and reliability of dental MRI for static guided implant surgery planning.
In this prospective study, a 0.4-mm isotropic, artifact-suppressed, 3T MRI protocol was used for implant planning and surgical guide production in participants in need of dental implants. Two dentists decided on treatment plan. Surgical guides were placed intraorally during a subsequent reference cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. Inter-rater and inter-modality agreement were assessed by Cohen's kappa. For each participant, dental MRI and CBCT datasets were co-registered to determine three-dimensional and angular deviations between planned and surgically guided implant positions.
Forty-five implants among 30 study participants were planned and evaluated (17 women, 13 men, mean age 56.9 ± 13.1years). To evaluate the positive predictive values (PPVs) of calcifications with suspicious morphology by incorporating distribution and clinical factors in two separate cohorts to provide more practical guidance for management.
This retrospective study included 1076 consecutive women from two cohorts (cohort A, 556; cohort B, 520), with calcifications of suspicious morphology seen on mammography that were pathologically confirmed or followed with mammography. Reader-averaged PPVs of the calcifications were analyzed and compared by logistic regression using the generalized estimating equation. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate independent factors associated with the PPVs of suspicious calcifications.
Overall reader-averaged PPVs of suspicious calcifications were 16.8% and 15.2% in cohort A and B, respectively. Reader-averaged PPVs according to morphology in cohort A and B were as follows amorphous 9.1%, 6.4%; coarse heterogeneous 16.1%, 22.1%; fine pleomorphic 78.8%, 44.7%; andffuse amorphous calcifications, falling into the BI-RADS 4a assessment category (PPV 2-10%). • Diffuse amorphous calcifications detected in women > 50 years old and without a personal history of breast cancer have reader-averaged PPVs < 2.0%.

To prospectively evaluate the therapy response of third-line TACE with DSM or lipiodol in the treatment of CRLM using MRI.
In this prospective, randomized, single-center trial, patients were randomly assigned to receive TACE therapy with either lipiodol or DSM as the embolization agent. Therapy response was evaluated using MRI. Local tumor response was determined according to RECIST 1.1, and survival data was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier estimator.
Fifty patients (35 male, 15 female) were randomized and included in the survival analysis, whereas 31 patients completed therapy and were considered for evaluation of tumor responses (cTACE n = 13, DSM-TACE n = 18). In the cTACE group, PR was observed in 23%, SD in 15%, and PD in 62%. In the DSM-TACE-group, PR was observed in 22% of patients, SD in 56%, and PD in 22% (p = 0.047). In addition, the DSM-TACE group showed statistically significant tumor volume reduction (p = 0.006). Median apparent diffusion coefficient values were not significantly different vival analysis showed a median survival of 13months in the cTACE group compared to 16months in the DSM-TACE group (p = 0.75).

To review and discuss the literature regarding iTIND, Urolift and Rezūm and investigate the precise clinical indications of all three different approaches for their application in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treatment.
The PubMed-Medline and Cochrane Library databases were screened to identify recent English literature relevant to iTIND, Urolift and Rezūm therapies. The surgical technique and clinical results for each approach were summarized narratively.
iTIND, Urolift and Rezūm are safe and effective minimally invasive procedures for the symptomatic relief of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to BPH. iTIND requires the results of ongoing prospective studies, a long-term follow-up and a comparison against a reference technique to confirm the generalizability of the first pivotal study. Urolift provides symptomatic relief but the improvements are inferior to TURP at 24months and long-term retreatments have not been evaluated. Rezūm requires randomized controlled trials against a reference technique to confirm the first promising clinical results.

Introduction of the new TKA implant increased surgical time and intraoperative blood loss immediately after its introduction. These differences diminished one year after introduction of the new implant. Fewer outliers with respect to FF and TS were seen when using the novel TKA implant. Further studies are needed to investigate if these differences persist over time and correlate with patient reported outcomes.
Hip fractures and proximal humerus fractures are known to be associated with increased mortality, but the impact on mortality of combining these two common injuries is not well known.
To compare mortality, inpatient stay and discharge destination for patients with combined hip and proximal humerus fractures with those sustaining isolated hip fractures.
Using the United Kingdom national hip fracture database, we identified all hip fracture patients over the age of 60 admitted to a single trauma unit from 2010-2016. Patients sustaining a proximal humerus fracture in addition to their hip fracture were identified using hospital coding data. We calculated the 30-d and one-year mortality for both the hip fracture cohort and the combined hip and proximal humerus fracture cohort. Other variables recorded included age, gender and whether the proximal humerus was treated with or without an operation.
We identified 4131 patients with hip fractures within the study period and out of those 40 had sustained both a hip and a proximal humerus fracture. The increasing prevalence of obesity, sedentary lifestyle, sporting activity, and vitamin D deficiency (VDD) has been hypothesized for this shifting disease trend. This review encompasses the details of therapeutic applications of serratiopeptidase based on available in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies. We found some strong evidences regarding the efficacy of serratiopeptidase. However data on safety, tolerability, and its mechanism of action need detailing. This work describes an updated PFAS extraction workflow, using 96-well plate technology and protein precipitation that is rapid, simple, inexpensive, and amenable for large cohort studies. In brief, plasma proteins were precipitated using methanol and the resulting centrifuged supernatant was directly analyzed using UHPLC-MS/MS. We monitored 51 PFAS, which were quantified via isotope dilution and the effectiveness of the method was demonstrated by using NIST blood-based Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). This method resulted in recoveries ranging between 70 and 89% for all analytes. The 96-well design exhibited low limits of detection and only required sample volumes of 100 µL, thus resulting in an amenable method for high-throughput plasma/serum PFAS screening.

Using the United Kingdom national hip fracture database, we identified all hip fracture patients over the age of 60 admitted to a single trauma unit from 2010-2016. Patients sustaining a proximal humerus fracture in addition to their hip fracture were identified using hospital coding data. We calculated the 30-d and one-year mortality for both the hip fracture cohort and the combined hip and proximal humerus fracture cohort. E-cigarettes are the most popular aid to smoking cessation attempts in England and the USA. This research examined associations between e-cigarette device characteristics and patterns of use, tobacco-smoking relapse, and smoking abstinence.
A convenience sample of 371 participants with experience of vaping, and tobacco-smoking abstinence and/or relapse completed an online cross-sectional survey about e-cigarettes. Factors associated with smoking relapse were examined using multiple linear and logistic regression models.
Most participants were self-reported long-term abstinent smokers (86.3%) intending to continue vaping. Most initiated e-cigarette use with a vape pen (45.8%) or cig-a-like (38.7%) before moving onto a tank device (89%). The influence of sex and gender on the risk of dementia, its clinical presentation and progression is increasingly being recognized. However, current dementia strategies have not explicitly considered sex and gender differences in the management of dementia to ensure equitable care. The objective of this study was to examine the moderating effect of sex on the quality of care following the implementation of the Quebec Alzheimer Plan (QAP).
We conducted a secondary analysis of the evaluation of the QAP consisting of a retrospective chart review of 945 independent, randomly-selected patient charts of males and females 75+ years old with dementia and a visit to one of 13 participating Family Medicine Groups before (October 2011-July 2013) and after (October 2014 - July 2015). The quality of dementia care score, based on Canadian and international recommendations and consensus guidelines, consisted of documented assessments in 10 domains. We used a mixed linear regression model to measure the interaction betwit is unclear whether this represents inequities in access to care and health outcomes. Future research should focus on better understanding sex and gender-specific needs in dementia to bridge this gap and better inform dementia strategies.
While the overall quality of care improved after the implementation of the QAP, this study reveals differences in dementia management between men and women. While we identified areas of inequalities in the care received, it is unclear whether this represents inequities in access to care and health outcomes. Previous studies have demonstrated the association between dietary patterns and semen quality indicators, but research on the possible association between animal flesh foods consumption and semen quality is limited. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the association between animal flesh foods consumption with semen quality.
In this cross-sectional study, 400 newly-identified (< 6 months) infertile men, as diagnosed by an andrologist, were recruited into the study. Dietary intake was assessed by using a semiquantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire. The total meat consumption was defined as the sum of red meat, poultry, fresh fish, canned fish, processed meats, and organ meats in the diet. A linear mixed model was used to assess the relationship between meat consumption and semen quality indicators of participants.
Consumption of canned fish was inversely related to sperm immotility. Compared with the men in the lowest quartile of canned fish intake, those in the highest quartile had a lower sperm immotility [lowest quartile 52.5%; (95% CI 47-57) vs 47.4%; (95% CI 43-51) P-trend = 0.026]. Similarly, a trend toward an inverse significant association between fresh fish intake and sperm immotility was observed (P-trend = 0.074). In contrast, fresh and canned fish intake was unrelated to other outcomes of sperm quality (P-trend > 0.05). No association was found between consumption of processed red meat, red meat, poultry, and organ meat, and semen quality indicators (P-trend > 0.05).

Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS, OMIM#606232), or 22q13 deletion syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder caused by deletion of the distal long arm of chromosome 22 with a variety of clinical features that display considerably heterogeneous degrees of severity. The SHANK3 gene is understood to be the critical gene for the neurological features of this syndrome.
We describe one pair of boy-girl twins with a 22q13 deletion not involving the SHANK3 gene. Interestingly, the clinical and molecular findings of the two patients were identical, likely resulting from germline mosaicism in a parent. The boy-girl twins showed intellectual disability, speech absence, facial dysmorphism, cyanosis, large fleshy hands and feet, dysplastic fingernails and abnormal behaviors, and third-generation sequencing showed an identical de novo interstitial deletion of 6.0 Mb in the 22q13.31-q13.33 region.
Our case suggests that prenatal diagnosis is essential for normal parents with affected children due to the theoretical possibility of parental germline mosaicism.

Median survival time was 13.32 (7.08, 23.28) months in the PD group and 19.68 (9.48, 39.24) months in the HD group, P=.013. After adjustment for confounders the mortality risk amongst PD and HD patients was not significantly different adjusted HR for death in PD vs HD patients was 1.44, P=.35 for 1- year and 1.69, P=.10 for 2-year mortality. Two modalities were equally effective in the treatment of patients with CHF and renal failure considering different patient characteristics.The aim of this study was to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of endogenous glycochenodeoxycholate and glycodeoxycholate 3-O-glucuronides (GCDCA-3G and GDCA-3G) as substrates for organic anion transporting polypeptide 1B1 (OATP1B1) in humans. We measured fasting levels of plasma GCDCA-3G and GDCA-3G using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in 356 healthy volunteers. The mean plasma levels of both compounds were ~ 50% lower in women than in men (P = 2.25 × 10-18 and P = 4.73 × 10-9 ). In a microarray-based genome-wide association study, the SLCO1B1 rs4149056 (c.521T>C, p.Val174Ala) variation showed the strongest association with the plasma GCDCA-3G (P = 3.09 × 10-30 ) and GDCA-3G (P = 1.60 × 10-17 ) concentrations. The mean plasma concentration of GCDCA-3G was 9.2-fold (P = 8.77 × 10-31 ) and that of GDCA-3G was 6.4-fold (P = 2.45x10-13 ) higher in individuals with the SLCO1B1 c.521C/C genotype than in those with the c.521T/T genotype. No other variants showed independent genome-wide significant associations with GCDCA-3G or GDCA-3G. GCDCA-3G was highly efficacious in detecting the SLCO1B1 c.521C/C genotype with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.996 (P less then 0.0001). The sensitivity (98-99%) and specificity (100%) peaked at a cutoff value of 180 ng/mL for men and 90 ng/mL for women. In a haplotype-based analysis, SLCO1B1*5 and *15 were associated with reduced, and SLCO1B1*1B, *14, and *35 with increased OATP1B1 function. In vitro, both GCDCA-3G and GDCA-3G showed at least 6 times higher uptake by OATP1B1 than OATP1B3 or OATP2B1. These data indicate that the hepatic uptake of GCDCA-3G and GDCA-3G is predominantly mediated by OATP1B1. To evaluate the surgical management of cervical cancer without the use of preoperative pelvic imaging in a resource-limited setting.
A retrospective study was carried out using clinical records and the ongoing electronic database at the Gynaecological Oncology Unit, National Cancer Institute (Apeksha Hospital), Maharagama, Sri Lanka. Details regarding the radical hysterectomies carried out from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019, were retrospectively studied.
Out of nearly 700 patients with cervical cancer admitted during the year 2019, 57 surgically managed radical hysterectomies were included. Of these, seven cases were ineligible and excluded and 50 cases of radical hysterectomies were included for analysis. Mean age was 53.6±9.5years and median parity was 3 (range 2-4). Of the cases, 94% were found to have no parametrial involvement showing the success of clinical examination in assessing local tumor spread. Overall, 11 (22.0%) were upstaged due to lymph node metastasis that was statistically significant.

We measured fasting levels of plasma GCDCA-3G and GDCA-3G using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in 356 healthy volunteers. The mean plasma levels of both compounds were ~ 50% lower in women than in men (P = 2.25 × 10-18 and P = 4.73 × 10-9 ). In a microarray-based genome-wide association study, the SLCO1B1 rs4149056 (c.521T>C, p.Val174Ala) variation showed the strongest association with the plasma GCDCA-3G (P = 3.09 × 10-30 ) and GDCA-3G (P = 1.60 × 10-17 ) concentrations. To evaluate the surgical management of cervical cancer without the use of preoperative pelvic imaging in a resource-limited setting. A retrospective study was carried out using clinical records and the ongoing electronic database at the Gynaecological Oncology Unit, National Cancer Institute (Apeksha Hospital), Maharagama, Sri Lanka. Details regarding the radical hysterectomies carried out from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019, were retrospectively studied. Out of nearly 700 patients with cervical cancer admitted during the year 2019, 57 surgically managed radical hysterectomies were included. Of these, seven cases were ineligible and excluded and 50 cases of radical hysterectomies were included for analysis. Mean age was 53.6±9.5years and median parity was 3 (range 2-4). Of the cases, 94% were found to have no parametrial involvement showing the success of clinical examination in assessing local tumor spread. Overall, 11 (22.0%) were upstaged due to lymph node metastasis that was statistically significant. Air quality degradation due to road traffic emissions is one of the topics of major interest for the scientific community and urban planners worldwide. Cabo Verde does not have regulations for traffic emission control or air quality guidelines, although the number of road vehicles has grown steadily over the past decade. Moreover, studies focusing on the impact of road transport on air quality in this archipelago are sparse. In this study, we present a first detailed air pollutant inventory of road traffic emissions through a bottom-up methodology, along with snapshots of the state of air quality on the islands of Santiago, São Vicente, and Sal. For the year 2017, emission estimates for the main island (Santiago) are 654 tons of CO, 35 tons of PM10, 562 tons of NOx, and 84 tons of NMVOCs. The air quality assessment was carried out using the TAPM model for a period of 6 months from January to July 2017. The results showed that the mean concentration values for Sao Vicente, Sal, and Santiago Islands ranged between 2.0 and 18 μg m-3 for NO2 and 3.8 and 5.6 μg m-3 for PM10. NO2 concentrations show an increasing trend from January to July in Santiago and Sal, and no clear trend in São Vicente Island. The simulated PM10 concentrations showed values in the same range over the year, even though they appeared slightly higher in July than in January. It was observed that both NO2 and PM10 average concentrations have been consistently above healthful levels, according to air quality guidelines fixed by the WHO.
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition and there is a plethora of surgical techniques available to address this problem. We present a review of biologic grafts, including the latest literature to help guide a surgeon's choice on the type of biologic materials to augment repairs.
Since the 2019 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ban on mesh, including xenograft, there is a sparsity of biologic graft products available for POP repairs. This has led to a significant decrease in surgical application. Surgeons must be familiar with the biochemical properties, processing, and clinical application of biologic grafts prior to use. They should also be familiar with alternative operative techniques that utilize autografts, although there is limited outcome data on these techniques. With heightened awareness of mesh and its complications, biologic grafts have made a resurgence. Surgeons must be well versed on their available options. Current literature is limited, and studies have not demonstrated superioor these types of biologic graft material in specific patient populations. Future studies are warranted.
Bignoniaceae species have conserved chloroplast structure, with hotspots of nucleotide diversity. Several genes are under positive selection, and can be targets for evolutionary studies. Bignoniaceae is one of the most species-rich family of woody plants in Neotropical seasonally dry forests. Here we report the assembly of Handroanthus impetiginosus chloroplast genome and evolutionary comparative analyses of ten Bignoniaceae species representing the genera for which whole-genome chloroplast sequences were available. The chloroplast genome of H. impetiginosus is 159,462bp in size and has a similar structure compared to the other nine species. The total number of genes was slightly variable amongst the Bignoniaceae, ranging from 124 in H. impetiginosus to 144 in Anemopaegma acutifolium. The inverted repeat (IR) size was variable, ranging from 24,657bp (Tecomaria capensis) to 40,481bp (A. acutifolium), due to the contraction and retraction at its boundaries. However, gene boundaries were very similar among thenalysis based on 77 coding genes was highly consistent with Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) IV. Our results also indicate that most genes are under negative selection or neutral evolution. We found no evidence of branch-site selection, implying that H. impetiginosus is not evolving faster than the other species analyzed, notwithstanding we found site positive selection signal in several genes. These genes can provide targets for evolutionary studies in Bignoniaceae and Lamiales species.Badgers can gather huge quantities of organic material to build their nests for winter time and to rear their cubs. Moreover, badger burrows (setts) are characterized by specific microclimate with quite stable temperature and humidity. Their fauna is poorly studied, especially in respect of saprobiontic Uropodina mites. In 2018-2019, we monitored 94 badger setts to search for nest material that had been thrown away during cleaning of the chambers after mating and winter sleep. In the collected material from 32 badger nests, we found 413 Uropodina mites of 16 species, in various stages of development (adults, protonymphs, and deutonymphs). The community was dominated by three mite species Trematura patavina (22.5%, n = 93), Oodinychus ovalis (17.2%, n = 71), and Olodiscus minima (15.5%, n = 64). Other nidicolous-i.e., nest-dwelling-species included Nenteria oudemansi (14.8%, n = 61), Phaulodiaspis borealis (7.0%, n = 29), Phaulodiaspis rackei (4.6%, n = 19), Uroseius hunzikeri (1.7%, n = 7), Uropoda orbicularis (1.5%, n = 6), and Apionoseius infirmus (1.0%, n = 4). The most frequent species were Oodinychus ovalis (62.5%, 20 nests), N. oudemansi (46.9%, 15 nests), and Olodiscus minima (40.6%, 13 nests). Detrended correspondence analysis indicated that the Uropodina community from badger nests differed from that of mole nests, studied earlier. In setts, the Uropodina community included T. patavina and N. oudemansi, which were for the first time recorded from underground badger nests. This is the first record of N. oudemansi from Poland.
Symptomatic haemorrhoids affect a large number of patients throughout the world. The aim of this systematic review was to compare the surgical outcomes of stapled haemorrhoidopexy (SH) versus open haemorrhoidectomy (OH) over a 20-year period.
Randomized controlled trials published between January 1998 and January 2019 were extracted from Pubmed using defined search criteria. Study characteristics and outcomes in the form of short-term and long-term complications of the two techniques were analyzed. Any changes in trend of outcomes over time were assessed by comparing article groups 1998-2008 and 2009-2019.

This study aimed to determine the behavioral and socio-demographic predictors of the hookah smoking frequency among women in southern Iran. This research was conducted on 400 women hookah smokers selected through multi-stage sampling method. At present, the most effective technology for disposing heavy metals in solid wastes is the solidification/stabilization (S/S) technique. In terms of S/S technology, chemical stabilization is one of the most potential and practical method. This paper aims to investigate the S/S property of four typical chemical agents (Na2S, NaH2PO4, TMT and Na2EDTA) on the heavy metals in lead-zinc tailings. The results reveal that the heavy metals lead and zinc in tailings are stabilized more effectively by using chelating agents TMT than by using inorganic chemical agents Na2S and NaH2PO4. When the dosage of TMT reaches 4%, the leaching concentration of lead and zinc is 0.18 and 14.60 mg/L according to toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), and the stabilization efficiency of lead and zinc is 99.31% and 80.92%, respectively, while the leaching concentration of lead and zinc just drops to 0.41 and 16.00 mg/L with addition of 10% NaH2PO4. Furthermore, the leaching concentration of heavy metal lead in tailings treated by 4% Na2EDTA increases to 53.44 mg/L which far exceeds the standard of pollution control. This study aimed to determine the behavioral and socio-demographic predictors of the hookah smoking frequency among women in southern Iran. This research was conducted on 400 women hookah smokers selected through multi-stage sampling method. At present, the most effective technology for disposing heavy metals in solid wastes is the solidification/stabilization (S/S) technique. In terms of S/S technology, chemical stabilization is one of the most potential and practical method. This paper aims to investigate the S/S property of four typical chemical agents (Na2S, NaH2PO4, TMT and Na2EDTA) on the heavy metals in lead-zinc tailings. The results reveal that the heavy metals lead and zinc in tailings are stabilized more effectively by using chelating agents TMT than by using inorganic chemical agents Na2S and NaH2PO4. When the dosage of TMT reaches 4%, the leaching concentration of lead and zinc is 0.18 and 14.60 mg/L according to toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), and the stabilization efficiency of lead and zinc is 99.31% and 80.92%, respectively, while the leaching concentration of lead and zinc just drops to 0.41 and 16.00 mg/L with addition of 10% NaH2PO4. Furthermore, the leaching concentration of heavy metal lead in tailings treated by 4% Na2EDTA increases to 53.44 mg/L which far exceeds the standard of pollution control. Four cohorts (N=80) with Down syndrome participated adolescents (ages 16-21) and adults (ages 30-45, 46-60 and 61+). All completed Vocabulary and Similarities (crystallized) and Block Design and Raven (fluid) intelligence tests (WAIS-III

We performed this study to identify possible barriers inhibiting paediatric kidney transplant and to assess the outcomes of paediatric ESKD. A retrospective chart review of ESKD patients (2013 - 2018) at a tertiary paediatric nephrology centre was conducted. Medical/non-medical barriers to transplant were noted. Patient outcomes were classified as "continued treatment," "lost to follow-up (LTFU)" or "died." Of 155 ESKD patients (monthly income 218 USD [146, 365], 94% self-pay), only 30 (19%) were transplanted (28 living donor). Sixty-five (42%) were LTFU, 19 (12%) died, and 71 (46%) continued treatment. LTFU/death was associated with greater travel distance (300 km [60, 400] vs 110 km [20, 250] km, P less then .0001) and lower monthly income (145 USD [101, 290] vs 290 USD [159, 681], P less then .0001). Among those who continued treatment, 41 proceeded to transplant evaluation of whom 13 had no living donor and remained waitlisted for 27 months (15, 30). The remainder (n = 30) did not proceed to transplant due to unresolved medical issues (n = 10) or a lack of parental interest in pursuing transplant (n = 20). Barriers to transplantation in low-resource setting begin in ESKD. LTFU resulted in withdrawal of care and was associated with low socioeconomic status. Among those who continued treatment, transplant rates were higher but medical challenges and negative attitudes towards transplant and organ donation occurred.Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with Rose Bengal has previously achieved eradication of Trichophyton rubrum infections causing toenail onychomycosis; however, its antifungal activity against other clinically relevant dermatophytes has yet to be studied. Here, we test the efficacy of PDT using Rose Bengal (140 μM) and 532 nm irradiation (101 J/cm2 ) against Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton interdigitale spores, in comparison to T. rubrum. A significant reduction (>99%) of T. mentagrophytes and T. interdigitale was observed, while actual eradication of viable T. rubrum was achieved (99.99%). Laser irradiation alone inhibited growth of T. rubrum (55.2%) and T. mentagrophytes (45.2%) significantly more than T. interdigitale (25.5%) (P = .0086), which may indicate an increased presence of fungal pigments, xanthomegnin and melanin. We introduce readers to project management software, using one free program as an example. We provide examples of how we have used the software successfully. Alternatively, the second pathogenic variant, NM_000168.6c.1862C>T, lies in the DNA binding domain of GLI3 protein and may affect its hydrophobic interaction with DNA. Both pathogenic GLI3 variants had reduced transcriptional activity in HEK293 cells that likely had led to haploinsufficiency and, consequently, the clinical phenotypes.

Methylene blue (MB) is a commonly used dye that can be used for near-infrared (NIR) imaging and photodynamic therapy (PDT) by producing reactive oxygen species after light exposure, inducing apoptosis. The limiting factor of MB is its poor penetration through cell membranes. Its decreased cellular uptake can be prevented by encapsulation in drug delivery systems such as liposomes. Additionally, the enhanced permeability and retention effect of tumors enables enhanced accumulation of nanocarriers at the target site.
Nanosized, MB encapsulated, Tc-99m radiolabeled Lipoid S PCPEG2000-PEChol DTPA-PE and DPPCPEG2000-PECholDTPA-PE liposomes were formulated to design multifunctional theranostic nanocarriers for 1) NIR imaging, 2) gamma probe detection of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs), and 3) PDT, which can provide accurate imaging and therapy helping surgery with a single liposomal system. The characterization of liposomes was performed by measuring particle size, zeta potential, phospholipid content, and encapsulh topic are continuing.
MB encapsulated, Tc-99m radiolabeled, nanosized Lipoid S PCPEG2000-PECholDTPA-PE and DPPCPEG2000-PECholDTPA-PE liposomes were found to have potential for SLN imaging by gamma probe detection, NIR imaging, and PDT. In vitro and in vivo imaging and therapeutic efficiency should be definitely evaluated to enable a final decision and our studies on this research topic are continuing.

The compatibility of TCS with excipients was studied by differential scanning colorimetry and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Different formulations of solid dispersions (SDs) were made with poloxamer carriers, i.e. poloxamer-108, poloxamer-188, poloxamer-237, poloxamer-338, and poloxamer-407 were made by taking TCSpoloxamer in ratios of 11, 12, 14, and 16. The SDs were made by a novel microwave fusion method and compressed using an 8-station tablet compression machine. The fabricated SD tablets were characterized by physicochemical constraints and drug release rates. The release of TCS from the prepared SDs was later analyzed by kinetic models.
TCS was observed to be compatible with the poloxamer carriers. The SD formulations showed satisfactory physicochemical constraints and TCS release following first-order release.

A compaction simulator (CS) is a single-punch instrument that records data during the powder compaction process. The aim of the study was to determine the behavior of lactose-based direct tableting agents (DTAs) by CS. The data recorded were used to evaluate the flowability and compressibility of powders. The focus of the study was on comparing the compressibility of StarLac
[alpha lactose monohydrate (85%) and white maize starch (15%)] and FlowLac
100 (spray-dried alpha lactose monohydrate) in order to make tablets containing poorly flowable paracetamol.
Two lactose-based DTAs were used. Physical characterization of these powders was done by measuring bulk, tapped, and true densities alongside scanning electron microscopy analysis. Flow properties were then calculated by the angle of repose, Hausner ratio, and Carr's compressibility index. Force, in-die thickness, and punch displacement data produced by the CS were captured during in-die compression. Compressibility was calculated using the Heckel equPy values obtained from the Heckel equation described the plasticity of particles, which gives distinct information on the compressibility of both DTAs in real time during the compaction cycle.
The aim of this study was to develop fluticasone propionate (FP)-loaded solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) formulations by using factorial design approach.
Tristearin percentages (X1) (1%, 2%, and 4%) and homogenization cycles (X2) (2, 4, and 8 cycles) were selected as independent variables in the factorial design. SLN formulations were optimized by multiple linear regression (MLR) to evaluate the influence of the selected process and formulation independent variables on SLNs' characteristics, namely as encapsulation efficiency (Q1) and particle size (Q2). The polydispersity index and surface charge of the SLNs were also evaluated in this research. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and
drug release studies were carried out on the optimum SLN formulation.
The MLR analysis indicated that as the homogenization cycle (X2) increased in the production process, the mean particle size decreased.

As part of a funded Round 20 Grand Challenges Exploration project (Healthy Minds for Adolescent Mothers), we investigated unplanned teen pregnancies in Haiti's Cité Soleil shantytown, teens' biopsychosocial challenges, and desirable interventions. Compressibility was calculated using the Heckel equPy values obtained from the Heckel equation described the plasticity of particles, which gives distinct information on the compressibility of both DTAs in real time during the compaction cycle. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and drug release studies were carried out on the optimum SLN formulation. The MLR analysis indicated that as the homogenization cycle (X2) increased in the production process, the mean particle size decreased. This research showed that FP-encapsulated SLNs with desired characteristics can be produced by varying the production and content variables of the formulations.
