  • Men who have sex with men (MSM) have a disproportionate burden of HIV infection worldwide. In Colombia, the prevalence of HIV in MSM is ~ 43 times higher than in the general population (17% vs. 0.4%). This study determined the sexual behaviors, HIV serostatus, and associated factors with condomless sexual practice with both regular and casual partners in 92 MSM from Medellín, Colombia. The subjects were recruited through a community-based approach, and the data were collected by a structured survey and in-depth interviews. Participants were classified into three groups according to the number of sexual partners in the last three months, to compare the sociodemographic conditions and sexual behaviors. Univariate analysis was described by absolute and relative frequencies; bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used to compare the groups and to explore the associated factors with condomless sexual practice. The overall HIV estimated prevalence was 4.3%, while the estimated prevalence for MSM with > 10 sexual partners in the last three months was 14.8%. This last group showed higher average age, higher percentage of subjects who have had sex with people living with HIV, and increased frequency of previous sexually transmitted infections. Having condomless sex with casual partners was associated with the number of sexual partners in the last three months. This study demonstrates that Colombian MSM continue to have a high risk of HIV infection/transmission and reinforce the need to implement adequate prevention programs, PrEP and guarantee access to treatment for people living with HIV.
    The optimal follow-up duration and frequency following hypospadias repair is unclear within the pediatric urology community. This analysis aims to delineate the time to various complications following primary hypospadias repairs.

    A retrospective review of a single-surgeon hypospadias database over 2001-2017 was performed. The primary outcome of the study was determining the significant factors leading to complications over time. As a secondary outcome, subgroup analysis was performed to determine whether there was a significant difference in time to detecting voiding-related complications (fistula, stricture/stenosis, and diverticulum) based on age.

    Eight hundred and thirty-two patients were identified. The complication rates for distal, midshaft, and proximal hypospadias were 17.9% (112/625), 36.7% (40/109), and 55.1% (49/89), respectively (p < 0.0001). Survival analysis using Kaplan-Meier curves showed significance in three variables for time to complication hypospadias severity (p < 0.0001), technique (p < 0.0001), and penile curvature > 30° (p < 0.0001).     Current experimental research suggests antihypertensive medication reduces the failure risk of dental implants due to enhanced bone remodeling. However, evidence from clinical studies evaluating the impact of antihypertensive medication on implant stability is lacking.

    We retrospectively analyzed 377 implants in 196 patients (46 implants inserted in antihypertensive drug users (AH) and 331 implants in non-users (NAH)) for implant stability measured by radiofrequency analysis, and we determined the implant stability quotient (ISQ). AH subgroups were stratified by the use of beta-blockers, renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitors, and both of the aforementioned. The impact of antihypertensive medication on ISQ values at implant insertion (primary stability) and implant exposure (secondary stability) was analyzed by a linear regression model with a regression coefficient and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI), adjusted for potential confounders.

    Time between implant insertion and implant exposure was 117.1 ± 56.6 days. ISQ values at insertion were 71.8 ± 8.7 for NAH and 74.1 ± 5.6 for AH, respectively. ISQ at exposure was 73.7 ± 8.1 for NAH and 75.7 ± 5.9 for AH. Regression analysis revealed that none of the AH subgroups were significantly related to ISQ at implant insertion. However, renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RAS) were significantly associated with higher ISQ values at exposure (reg. coeff. 3.59, 95% CI 0.46-6.71 (p=0.025)).

    Neuroactive steroids (NASs) exert multiple biological effects on development and inflammation. The effects of NASs on disease progression in multiple sclerosis (MS) are uncertain, prompting analyses of NAS profiles during the transition from clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) to relapsing-remitting (RR) MS.

    Subjects with CIS or RRMS and healthy controls (HCs) were recruited; demographic and clinical data as well as disability scores measured by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) were recorded. Matched plasma NAS and amino acid (AA) concentrations were measured.

    HC (n = 17), CIS (n = 31), and RRMS (n = 33) groups showed similar ages and sex distribution although disability scores were higher in the RRMS group. The conversion rate of CIS to RRMS group was 51.6% (n = 16) during a mean follow-up period of 1.85 years. The RRMS group showed significantly higher mean allopregnanolone, aspartate, and taurine concentrations with lower epiallopregnanolone concentrations than CIS patients, and higher L-serine-O-phosphate and lower alanine, arginine, and glutamine concentrations than the HC group.

    This study comprises a follow-up from a recently finished randomised controlled trial, to gain insight into the prevalence of asthma exacerbation and fear of COVID-19 in patients with moderate-severe asthma and controls in the Netherlands. Participants, patients with asthma and controls, were invited to fill out a short survey by email or post. Exacerbation frequencies until 1 July 2020 were verified with the hospitals' and general practitioners' medical records, pharmacies and patient interviews.

    In quarter 2 of 2020, mean exacerbation frequency per patient was significantly lower (χ
    (3)=9.91, p=0.019) compared with quarter 2 in previous years. Patients with asthma were more likely to avoid (38.8%; controls, 0.0%, p<0.01) or delay (24.5%; controls, 0.0%, p=0.02) essential medical visits due to fear of SARS-CoV-2 infection at medical facilities.

    In conclusion, we found a significantly reduced asthma exacerbation frequency during COVID-19 social distancing measures compared with previous years. Patients with asthma also showed more anxiety towards (acquiring) COVID-19 infection.

    Advance care planning (ACP) is a communication process about a person's values, life goals and preferences for current and future treatment and care. It can improve end-of-life care experiences for care recipients as well as for family caregivers. Knowledge about caregivers' needs might support implementation of ACP interventions suitable to both care recipients and their caregivers.

    To explore the experiences and attitudes of informal family caregivers, and their knowledge, regarding ACP.

    A systematic literature search was conducted (participants family caregivers; intervention advance care planning; databases MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Cochrane Library). Thematic synthesis was applied to qualitative and mixed methods studies; quantitative studies were described in relation to the themes of the meta-synthesis.

    57 studies were included, of these 51 in the meta-synthesis. Three themes emerged (1) caregiver's individual conceptualisation of ACP, (2) caregiver's relationships and (3) ACP process. These themes were incorporated into a longitudinal perspective on the caregiver's ACP trajectory, encompassing the phases (A) life before, (B) ACP process, (C) utilisation of ACP and (D) life after. The implications for ACP activities are described according to each phase.

    For the benefit of care recipients, healthcare professionals should carefully consider caregivers' conceptualisations of ACP as well as the relationships within the family. They need to be skilled communicators, sensitive to individual needs and equipped with sufficient time resources to tailor ACP interventions to their clients' unique situation. Thus, they will support decision-making according to care recipients' wishes, caregivers' end-of-life experience and their life after bereavement.

    Hyporesponsiveness to erythropoietin stimulating agent (ESA) is associated with poor outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease. Although ESA hyporesponsiveness and sarcopenia have a common pathophysiological background, clinical evidence linking them is scarce. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between ESA responsiveness and skeletal muscle mass in hemodialysis patients.

    This cross-sectional study analyzed 70 patients on maintenance hemodialysis who were treated with ESA. ESA responsiveness was evaluated by erythropoietin resistance index (ERI), calculated as a weekly dose of ESA divided by body weight and hemoglobin (IU/kg/week/dL), and a weekly dose of ESA/hemoglobin (IU/week/dL). A dose of ESA is equivalated to epoetin β. Correlations between ESA responsiveness and clinical parameters including skeletal muscle mass were analyzed.

    Among the 70 patients, ERI was positively correlated to age (p < 0.002) and negatively correlated to height (p < 0.001), body weight (p < 0.001), BMI (p < 0.001), skeletal muscle mass (p < 0.001), transferrin saturation (TSAT) (p = 0.049), and zinc (p = 0.006).     Etiopathogenesis of preterm birth (PTB) is multifactorial, with a universe of risk factors interplaying between the mother and the environment.     Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a major cause of morbidity. Understanding drivers of transmission can inform effective prevention programs. We describe STI prevalence and identify factors associated with STIs in four African countries.

    The African Cohort Study is an ongoing, prospective cohort in Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda. At enrollment, a physical exam was conducted and STI diagnosis made by a clinician using a syndromic management approach. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for factors associated with an STI diagnosis.

    As of June 2020, 3544 participants were enrolled. STI prevalence was 7.7% and did not differ by HIV status (p= 0.30). Prevalence differed by syndrome (3.5% vaginal discharge, 1.5% genital ulcer, 2.1% lower abdominal pain, 0.2% inguinal bubo). The odds of having an STI were higher at all sites compared to Kisumu West, Kenya, and among those with a primary level education or below compared to those with secondary or higher (aOR 1.77; 95% CI 1.32-2.38). The odds of an STI diagnosis was higher among participants 18-29 years (aOR 2.29; 95% CI 1.35-3.87), females (aOR 2.64; 95% CI 1.94-3.59), and those with depression (aOR 1.78; 95% CI 1.32-2.38). Among PLWH, similar factors were independently associated with an STI diagnosis. Viral suppression was protective against STIs (aOR 2.05; 95% CI 1.32-3.20).

ESA responsiveness was evaluated by erythropoietin resistance index (ERI), calculated as a weekly dose of ESA divided by body weight and hemoglobin (IU/kg/week/dL), and a weekly dose of ESA/hemoglobin (IU/week/dL). A dose of ESA is equivalated to epoetin β. Correlations between ESA responsiveness and clinical parameters including skeletal muscle mass were analyzed. We observed the facilitation in item memory from self-referential encoding compared to semantic encoding in recollection but not in familiarity-based memory. The self-referential benefit to source accuracy was observed in recollection memory, with source memory for the encoding context being stronger in the self-referential condition. No significant self-referential effect was observed with regards to peripheral source information (information not required for the participant to focus on), suggesting not all source information benefit from self-referential encoding. Self-referential encoding also resulted in a higher ratio of "Remember/Know" responses rate than semantically encoded items, denoting stronger recollection. These results suggest self-referential encoding creates a richer, more detailed memory trace which can be recollected later on.Tropical pasture canopy characteristics can alter lamb ingestive behavior. Our study evaluated the ingestive behavior of young lambs in different tropical pastures to identify which variables interfere in their grazing activity. Two years of study were carried out with 54 weaned lambs distributed in three different pasture canopies 1) monoculture of an upright grass, guinea grass (Panicum maximum; GG); 2) monoculture of a shrubby legume pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan; PP) and 3) contiguous paddock with half GG and half PP (GP). The experiment was set out in a randomized complete block design (3 blocks). Lamb ingestive behavior was observed from sunrise to sunset with records every 5 minutes. To identify the main variables that affected lamb grazing activity, a multivariate analysis of the Decision Tree was performed. Our results showed that there was no difference in the ingestive behavior parameters of young lambs in different canopies (P > 0.05). There was interaction among the canopies and the experimental periods for the variables idleness time and biting rate (P ≤ 0.05). Lambs in all canopies showed more idleness time in the first evaluation period. Lambs in canopies containing grass (GG and GP) exhibited greater bites per minute throughout the experimental period. Lamb grazing time increased 40% as experimental period progressed and plants matured. The Decision Tree identified leafstem ratio as the variable that most influenced lamb grazing time in GG and GP canopies while in the PP, grazing time was directly related to canopy height. The behavior of young lambs on tropical pasture is variable as there is a change in the behavioral response to canopy characteristics over time. Effective connectivity maps were constructed by using the extended unified structural equation models (euSEM) within 10 common brain regions involved in both language control and domain-general cognitive control. Results showed that, the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex/pre-supplementary motor area (dACC/pre-SMA) lost connection from the right thalamus after training, suggesting that less neural connectivity was required to complete the same domain-general cognitive control task. These findings not only provide direct evidence for the modulation of language switching training on the neural interaction of domain-general cognitive control, but also have important implications for revealing the potential neurocognitive adaptation effects of specific bilingual language experiences.

Therefore, the aim of this review article is to summarize the current knowledge on cell systems recombinantly overexpressing human OCT1.Objective We investigated the respective effects of preoperative angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) on the incidence of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality. Methods In this nested case-control study, we enrolled 20,276 patients who received major surgery. We collected their baseline demographic data, comorbidities and prescribed medication, the outcomes of postoperative AKI and mortality. AKI was defined by the criteria suggested by KDIGO (Kidney disease Improving Global Outcome). Logistic regression was used to assess the impact of exposure to ACEIs or ARBs. Results Compared with patients without ACEI/ARB, patient who received ARBs had a significantly lower risk for postoperative AKI (adjusted odds ratio (OR) 0.82, p = 0.007). However, ACEI users had a higher risk for postoperative AKI than ARB users (OR 1.30, p = 0.027), whereas the risk for postoperative AKI was not significantly different between the ACEI users and patients without ACEI/ARB (OR 1.07, p = 0.49). Compared with patients without ACEI/ARB, both ACEI and ARB users were associated with a reduced risk of long-term all-cause mortality following surgery (OR 0.47, p = 0.002 and 0.60, p less then 0.001 in ACEI and ARB users, respectively), without increasing the risk of hyperkalemia during the index hospitalization (p = 0.20). The risk of long-term all-cause mortality following surgery in ACEIs and ARBs users did not differ significantly (OR 0.74, p = 0.27). We found that YQJPF significantly ameliorates liver injury in vivo and in vitro that is associated with the regulation of hepatocyte necroptosis. Specifically, YQJPF decreased expression of receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1), receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) and pseudokinase mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL) to inhibit the migration of RIPK1 and RIPK3 into necrosome. YQJPF also reduces the expression of inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, and TNF-α, which were regulated by RIPK3 mediates cell death. RIPK1 depletion was found to enhance the protective effect of YQJPF. Furthermore, we showed that YQJPF significantly downregulates the mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and mitochondrial depolarization, with ROS scavenger, 4-hydroxy-TEMPO treatment recovering impaired RIPK1-mediated necroptosis and reducing the expression of IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, and TNF-α. In summary, our study revealed the molecular mechanism of protective effect of YQJPF on hepatocyte necroptosis, targeting RIPK1/RIPK3-complex-dependent necroptosis via ROS signaling. Furthermore, exogenous compounds such as MPP+, ASP+ and Tetraethylammonium can be used as prototypic substrates to study the OCT1-mediated transport in vitro. Single-transfected cell lines recombinantly overexpressing OCT1 (e.g., HEK-OCT1) were established to study OCT1-mediated uptake and to evaluate transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions in vitro. Furthermore, double-transfected cell models simultaneously overexpressing basolaterally localized OCT1 together with an apically localized export protein have been established. Most of these cell models are based on polarized grown MDCK cells and can be used to analyze transcellular transport, mimicking the transport processes e.g. during the hepatobiliary elimination of drugs. Therefore, the aim of this review article is to summarize the current knowledge on cell systems recombinantly overexpressing human OCT1.Objective We investigated the respective effects of preoperative angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) on the incidence of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality. Methods In this nested case-control study, we enrolled 20,276 patients who received major surgery. We collected their baseline demographic data, comorbidities and prescribed medication, the outcomes of postoperative AKI and mortality. AKI was defined by the criteria suggested by KDIGO (Kidney disease Improving Global Outcome). Logistic regression was used to assess the impact of exposure to ACEIs or ARBs. Results Compared with patients without ACEI/ARB, patient who received ARBs had a significantly lower risk for postoperative AKI (adjusted odds ratio (OR) 0.82, p = 0.007). However, ACEI users had a higher risk for postoperative AKI than ARB users (OR 1.30, p = 0.027), whereas the risk for postoperative AKI was not significantly different between the ACEI users and patients without ACEI/ARB (OR 1.07, p = 0.49). Compared with patients without ACEI/ARB, both ACEI and ARB users were associated with a reduced risk of long-term all-cause mortality following surgery (OR 0.47, p = 0.002 and 0.60, p less then 0.001 in ACEI and ARB users, respectively), without increasing the risk of hyperkalemia during the index hospitalization (p = 0.20). The risk of long-term all-cause mortality following surgery in ACEIs and ARBs users did not differ significantly (OR 0.74, p = 0.27). Furthermore, the higher the defined daily dose of ARB, the better the protection against AKI provided. We found that YQJPF significantly ameliorates liver injury in vivo and in vitro that is associated with the regulation of hepatocyte necroptosis. Specifically, YQJPF decreased expression of receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1), receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) and pseudokinase mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL) to inhibit the migration of RIPK1 and RIPK3 into necrosome. YQJPF also reduces the expression of inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, and TNF-α, which were regulated by RIPK3 mediates cell death. RIPK1 depletion was found to enhance the protective effect of YQJPF. Furthermore, we showed that YQJPF significantly downregulates the mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and mitochondrial depolarization, with ROS scavenger, 4-hydroxy-TEMPO treatment recovering impaired RIPK1-mediated necroptosis and reducing the expression of IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, and TNF-α. In summary, our study revealed the molecular mechanism of protective effect of YQJPF on hepatocyte necroptosis, targeting RIPK1/RIPK3-complex-dependent necroptosis via ROS signaling.   • Sheep play an important role in agricultural production and people's lives, and fecundity is one of the most important economic traits of sheep for sheep breeders. The Booroola fecundity (FecB) gene has a certain correlation with litter size in sheep. Therefore, this study aims to detect FecB expression quickly, accurately and visually. Here, we used the nucleic acid dye SYBR Green I to detect FecB with the amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS), which can efficiently, rapidly, economically and visually detect FecB expression in sheep. After ARMS polymerase chain reaction (PCR), SYBR Green I was directly added to the ARMS products, and whether the sheep carried FecB was judged by directly observing the color change in the PCR tube. Homozygous (BB) or heterozygous (B+) samples with FecB mutation were bright green, while wild type (++) samples without FecB were orange yellow. This study suggested that this method has 100% accuracy and 0.5 ng/µL sensitivity. To our knowledge, this is the first report that shows the integration of the ARMS with SYBR Green I to detect FecB expression in sheep visually.Peach brown rot caused by Monilinia fructicola is one of the most economically destructive diseases of peach (Prunus persica L.) in some orchards of China. Following the application of 1 × 109 CFU/mL bacterial complex to the fruits, leaves, and shoots of peach trees infected with M. fructicola, the rate of inhibition reached 73.80%, 83.33%, and 90.43%, respectively. A pot experiment using lettuce (Lactuca sativa) showed that inoculation with the bacterial complex significantly increased the growth of seedlings. In this study, some compound bacteria were more effective than those in previous study in suppressing disease and promoting growth, which have the potential to be further applied in the field.

In the literature, there is no study that investigates the platelet functions in diabetic patients with SSNHL.

  • Intestinal parasitic infection are a major public health concern affecting both children and adolescents in Ethiopia. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine pooled prevalence and associated factors of intestinal parasitic infection in this target group.

    We systematically retrieved available articles on the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection following database searches using PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Science Direct between March 1 and May 27, 2020. Two authors independently extracted all relevant data using a standardized Microsoft Excel data extraction form. Heterogeneity among included studies was assessed with the Higgins I2 tests. The pooled estimates and associated factors were assessed with a random-effects model using Stata/se Version 14.

    We retrieved 30 eligible articles with a pooled sample size of 14,445 primary school children with response rate of 97.8%. Entamoeba spp (16.11%), Ascaris lumbricoides (13.98%), hookworm (12.51%) and Giardia lamion was high (46%). Attention should be given to promoting personal hygiene, latrine utilization, wearing shoes, avoiding eating raw food, creating awareness for those mothers who lack formal education. Moreover, future research ideally will expand on the topic by conducting research in regions which have no prior research.

We leverage advances in machine vision afforded from convolutional neural networks and introduce a synthetic yet realistic generative model for images of worm posture, thus avoiding the need for human-labeled training. WormPose is effective and adaptable for imaging conditions across worm tracking efforts. We quantify pose estimation using synthetic data as well as N2 and mutant worms in on-food conditions. The qualitative part developed a questionnaire by two rounds of Delphi expert panels. The quantitative part validated the questionnaire using both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We used separate samples for EFA (n = 150) and CFA (n = 210). The participants were aged between 25-60 years of both sexes with no known history of NCDs, and face-to-face interviews were conducted. First, we generated an 86-item questionnaire based on the health belief model. Two expert panels ensured the questionnaire's content validity. In this study, we demonstrated that the inhibition of HMGCR could accelerate the development of RCC tumors by lactate accumulation and angiogenesis in animal models. This study aimed to develop and validate a questionnaire that can assess an individual's perceived risk of developing four major NCDs. We used the exploratory sequential mixed methods design. The qualitative part developed a questionnaire by two rounds of Delphi expert panels. The quantitative part validated the questionnaire using both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We used separate samples for EFA (n = 150) and CFA (n = 210). The participants were aged between 25-60 years of both sexes with no known history of NCDs, and face-to-face interviews were conducted. First, we generated an 86-item questionnaire based on the health belief model. Two expert panels ensured the questionnaire's content validity. However, the underlying mechanisms and functional significance of the role of cholesterol in the development of RCC remain obscure. 3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) plays a pivotal role in RCC development as it is the key rate-limiting enzyme of the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway. In this study, we demonstrated that the inhibition of HMGCR could accelerate the development of RCC tumors by lactate accumulation and angiogenesis in animal models.     All patients who underwent implantation of PFIA between 09/2009 and 11/2016 at 11 specialized orthopedic referral centers were enrolled in the study and were evaluated retrospectively at a minimum 2-year follow-up. Clinical outcomes included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score, the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), the Tegner Scale, the visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain, and subjective patient satisfaction. Pre- and perioperative risk factors were compared among failures and non-failures to determine potential risk factors.

    A total of 263 patients (85% follow-up rate) could be enrolled. The mean age at the time of index surgery was 49 ± 12years with a mean postoperative follow-up of 45 ± 18months. The overall failure rate wurgery is recommended to decrease the risk of failure.

    The Persona® system is a newly launched implant designed for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with technical innovations intended for a better functional outcome and higher flexion range. The aim of this study is to evaluate midterm outcomes and survivorship of a cohort of patients with a minimum of 5-year follow-up and to confirm previous results described in the literature.

    A cohort of 91 knees (85 patients) that underwent a patella-preserving TKA with the Persona® implant and who were followed for a mean of 5.9years' period was included in the study. Functional values were measured Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Knee Society Knee score (KSKS) and Knee Society Function score (KSFS). Range of movement (ROM), lower limb axis correction, mobilization and complications were also registered at the last follow-up and underwent statistical analysis.

    We found a low rate of complications or radiological changes with an implant-related revision rate of 2.19%. Mean results for PROMS were 44.21 ± 4 in OKS, 90.94 ± 2.4 in KSS and 97.88 ± 9.6 in KSFS. Mean postoperative ROM was 120.8º ± 12.37º. There was no change in implant positions at the final follow-up. We found radiolucent lines in 3 knees (3.29%).

  • Amatuximab is a promising therapeutic antibody targeting mesothelin, a 40-kDa glycoprotein that is highly expressed in pancreatic cancer. We investigated the effectiveness of early amatuximab treatment, imitating an adjuvant chemotherapy setting, and combination therapy with amatuximab and gemcitabine in liver metastasis of pancreatic cancer. Liver metastasis mouse models were established in 8-week-old male BALB/c nu/nu **** using the hemisplenic injection method. Tridaily amatuximab monotherapy or combination with gemcitabine was administered to the liver metastasis mouse model before metastatic lesions had formed huge masses. Gaussia luciferase-transfected AsPC-1 was used as a mesothelin-overexpressing pancreatic cancer cell line. The amount of liver metastases and the serum luciferase activity were significantly lower in the treatment groups than those in the control IgG group. Notably, the anti-tumor activity of gemcitabine was synergically enhanced by combination therapy with amatuximab. Furthermore, western blotting revealed that the high expression of phosphorylated c-Met and AKT in liver metastatic lesions treated with gemcitabine monotherapy was canceled by its combination with amatuximab. This result indicated that the observed synergic therapeutic effect may have occurred as a result of the inhibitory effect of amatuximab on the phosphorylation of c-Met and AKT, which were promoted by exposure to GEM. In conclusion, our study revealed that early administration of amatuximab alone or in combination with GEM significantly suppressed the liver metastases of mesothelin-expressing pancreatic cancer cells. A phase II clinical trial of amatuximab as part of an adjuvant chemotherapy regimen for resected pancreatic cancer is expected.

    Medical records and radiographs of patients who underwent genioplasty were reviewed. The demographic data, characteristics of operation, and treatment outcomes were gathered to analyze the causes that required reoperation. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were computed to evaluate the study.

    Of the 157 patients included, there were 12 patients (7.6%) who needed reoperation after genioplasty. Age ≤ 25years significantly decreased the likelihood for the need for reoperative genioplasty compared with age > 35years. However, the need for reoperative genioplasty was not directly associated with gender, simultaneous orthognathic operation, direction and amount of movement, method of fixation, or bone graft interposition. Fixation failure, esthetic problems, residual obstructive sleep apnea, and palpable step at the inferior border of the mandible were the causes that required a second operation by reposition and re-fixation with rigid fixation, recontouring, or reoperation by genioplasty.

Pre-enrichment approaches (B and D) increased the detection of 3GCREB carriers by 29.4% (20/68 3GCREB carriers only found using pre-enrichment, p  less then  0.0001) compared to direct plating approaches (A and C). Detailed information including general data and clinical data was collected.

    Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that lower total cholesterol, triglyceride, and uric acid levels were protective factors against the occurrence of sleep disorder, and increased Madopar dosage ≥ 600 mg, Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were risk factors for the occurrence of sleep disorder.     This qualitative descriptive study included 18 breast cancer survivors who completed cancer treatment within the last five years in Istanbul, Turkey. A directed content analysis was performed using the quality-of-life domains as guiding themes.

    The mean age was 51 ± 5.9, and the average months since active treatment were 26.5 ± 9.8 (9-48). Six themes and associated categories are as follows Physical functioning; Changes in physical activity and weight, new physical symptoms, Role functioning; Work-life, changes in household chores, Emotional functioning; Emotional changes, fear of having the COVID-19 infection, Cognitive Functioning; Risk Perception about the COVID-19 infection, reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic' measures, Social Functioning; Familial relationship changes, social interactions, General Health/Utilization of Healthcare services; Changes in routine follow-ups, changes in diet.

This study aimed to explore the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. This qualitative descriptive study included 18 breast cancer survivors who completed cancer treatment within the last five years in Istanbul, Turkey. A directed content analysis was performed using the quality-of-life domains as guiding themes. The mean age was 51 ± 5.9, and the average months since active treatment were 26.5 ± 9.8 (9-48).
