Aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of a novel, tooth-colored, self-adhesive bulk-fill restorative (SABF, 3M Oral Care) and a conventional bulk-fill composite (Filtek One, 3M Oral Care; FOBF) for restoring class II cavities. The null-hypothesis tested was that both materials perform similar regarding clinical performance.

    In this randomized split-mouth study, 30 patients received one SABF and one FOBF restoration each. Scotchbond Universal (3M Oral Care) was used as adhesive for FOBF (self-etch mode), while SABF was applied directly without adhesive.   • Background Parents of medically complex children hold deeply personal definitions of how to be "good parents" that guide their medical decision making and interactions with providers and are impacted by provider behaviors. Objective This study explored whether and how these beliefs are shaped by interactions with care providers and which provider behaviors foster or impede parents' ability to achieve their "good parent" definitions. Methods A 63-item web-based survey distributed by an online support network for parents of medically complex children. Responses to closed- and open-ended questions from 67 caregivers based in the United States and Europe were analyzed. Results Respondents' medical decisions are driven by goals of unselfishly doing what is best for my child (61%) and being my child's voice (18%). Almost half indicated that their personal "good parent" definition was impacted by provider behaviors or interactions with physicians or nurses. Although most parents reported wanting trusted care providers to ask them about their personal "good parent" definition, only 7% had ever been directly asked by members of their care teams about this topic. Provider behaviors such as kind and caring interactions, acknowledging the parents' role in caring for the child, and truly seeing the child as more than a diagnosis were reported as fostering caregivers' ability to achieve their "good parent" beliefs. Conclusions The findings indicate that trusted provider-initiated conversations about "good parent" beliefs would be well received and are an opportunity to improve family-centered care. In terms of education, 31% had a postgraduate degree, 41% were college graduates, and 29% did not graduate from college. In multivariate analyses, willingness to engage in either intervention did not vary by education. Women who did not graduate from college were more likely to leave medical decisions to their provider (p = 0.004) compared to women with a college or postgraduate degree. However, regardless of education, over 80% of women preferred to make medical decisions themselves or jointly with their provider. Conclusions Most women prefer to play an active role in their own medical decisions and have an interest in both evidence-based diabetes prevention strategies. Using BCG and ECG signals, we extracted measures of cardiac output, J-wave amplitude × heart rate (J-amp × HR). Mixed-effect models with repeated measures were used to compare J-amp × HRs between groups at different time points in pregnancy and postpartum. Results In normotensive controls, the J-amp × HR was significantly lower early postpartum (E-PP) compared with the second trimester (T2; p = 0.016) and third trimester (T3; p = 0.001). Women with preeclampsia had a significantly lower J-amp × HR compared with normotensive controls during the first trimester (T1; p = 0.026). In the preeclampsia group, there was a trend toward an increase in J-amp × HR from T1 to T2 and then a drop in J-amp × HR at T3 and further drop at E-PP. Conclusions We observe cardiac hemodynamic changes consistent with those reported using well-validated tools. In pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, the maximal force of contraction is lower, suggesting lower cardiac output and a trend in hemodynamics consistent with the hyperdynamic disease model of preeclampsia.
    Background Parents of medically complex children hold deeply personal definitions of how to be "good parents" that guide their medical decision making and interactions with providers and are impacted by provider behaviors. Objective This study explored whether and how these beliefs are shaped by interactions with care providers and which provider behaviors foster or impede parents' ability to achieve their "good parent" definitions. Methods A 63-item web-based survey distributed by an online support network for parents of medically complex children. Responses to closed- and open-ended questions from 67 caregivers based in the United States and Europe were analyzed. Results Respondents' medical decisions are driven by goals of unselfishly doing what is best for my child (61%) and being my child's voice (18%). Almost half indicated that their personal "good parent" definition was impacted by provider behaviors or interactions with physicians or nurses. Although most parents reported wanting trusted care providers to ask them about their personal "good parent" definition, only 7% had ever been directly asked by members of their care teams about this topic. Provider behaviors such as kind and caring interactions, acknowledging the parents' role in caring for the child, and truly seeing the child as more than a diagnosis were reported as fostering caregivers' ability to achieve their "good parent" beliefs. Conclusions The findings indicate that trusted provider-initiated conversations about "good parent" beliefs would be well received and are an opportunity to improve family-centered care. Specifically, the in-situ generated CO promotes the formation of Pt alloyed shells and their epitaxial growth on Pd nanoplates. In addition, the as-formed benzoic acid and residual oxygen are responsible for selective oxidative etching of partial Pd in the interior. According to the results, ground calcium carbonate was more suitable to be used in pediatric preparations concerning elemental impurities. Parts of elemental impurities in CaCO3 preparations which are derived from the raw materials and the preparation process, may cause potential risks for children. The substitutional groups significantly affect the structure of CDs, which may also cause the flipping of the glucose units.     Research in the field of lower extremity vascular disease has increased in popularity over the years. To adequately characterize and validate the effectiveness of vascular interventions, in vivo experimentation in large animals is required. Thus, it is necessary to find a method to detect the shape and density of blood vessels in the lower extremities that can evaluate and verify the treatment measures' effectiveness and have high accuracy and repeatability. This study characterized factors that determined both the accuracy and overall value of digital subtraction angiography in lower limb arteriography using a canine animal model.

    Six beagle dogs were anesthetized and immobilized on the motorized table. The femoral artery was accessed using an indwelling needle. A bolus of contrast agent was injected into the access site, and digital subtraction angiography with bolus chase technology was used to collect contrast images for analysis. At the end of the procedure, the anesthetized dogs were euthanized using an overdose of potassium chloride. After confirming the euthanasia of the dogs, the cadavers were taken to the experimental animal center of Xinjiang Medical University and processed by qualified institutional personnel.

    The final arteriographic images of the hind limbs from all six dogs were precise, and the branches of small vessels could be distinguished without any visible artifacts.

    These results suggested that arteriography using digital subtraction angiography could reveal the shape and density of blood vessels in canine animal models. This method has great potential to significantly improve research related to limb ischemia due to its simple and reproducible results.

    Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are commonly used in China to prevent pulmonary embolisms in patients with deep vein thrombosis. However, IVC filter removal is complicated when the filter has penetrated the IVC wall and endovascular techniques usually fail. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of retroperitoneal laparoscopic-assisted retrieval of wall-penetrating IVC filters after endovascular techniques have failed.

    We retrospectively evaluated a series of 8 patients who underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic-assisted retrieval of a wall-penetrating IVC filter between December 2017 and November 2019. All patients had experienced at least 1 failure with endovascular retrieval before the study. The filters were slanted and the proximal retrieval hooks penetrated the posterior lateral IVC wall in all patients on computed tomography. Demographic information, operation parameters, and complications were recorded and analyzed. We calculated the proportion of patients who complied with the recommendation of PFMT, and we subjectively assessed whether these patients found PFMT to be helpful. Chi-square, 2-tailed t, or Fisher's exact tests were used to compare differences between patients who attended and those who did not.

    During the 6-month period after their initial consultation, only 28 of 70 women (40%) followed the recommendation to attend PFMT. Sixteen of the 28 women who attended PFMT (57%) reported that they found it helpful.     All active residency and fellowship program websites (as of May 2020) were evaluated and compared using 72-point criteria in the following domains Recruitment, Faculty, Current Residents/Fellows, Research and Education, Surgical Procedures, Clinical Work, Benefits and Incentives, Wellness, and Environment. Programs without websites were excluded from the study. Program website information availability was compared by geographic region.

    Out of the identified 80 residency and fellowship programs, 68.75% (55) were from central Canada, 6.25% (5) from Atlantic Canada, and 25% (20) from western Canada. The mean score for residency websites was 25.4 ± 7.59 (35.6% of criteria complete). The domains with the highest and lowest inclusion rates were Research and Edch, education, and wellness. Programs should provide more information about work hours, call schedules, and current trainees.     We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 85 patients who underwent uterine cavity assessment by office hysteroscopy at our university-affiliated fertility centre from November 2019 to October 2020. During the study period, two-dimensional (2D) TVUS was performed pre- and post-hysteroscopy to evaluate TP. Patient records were reviewed for demographics, diagnosis, and prior/subsequent TP testing. Predictive values for TP were calculated.

    This study aimed to evaluate concurrent laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) with determination of outcomes.

    This retrospective study was conducted at our hospital, from June 2011 to June 2020. Over 9 years, 17 patients with co-existing uncomplicated unilateral or bilateral inguinal hernia (primary/recurrent) and significant benign prostatic hypertrophy were operated in the same sitting. The following outcomes were compared duration of the surgery, conversion to open hernia surgery, intraoperative and post-operative complications, duration of hospital stay, recurrence, time taken to resume normal activity and cost of the treatment.

    This study included 17 patients with a mean age of 65 years (range of 50-87 years). The average time taken for the surgery was 115 min with no conversion to open hernia repair. The mean post-operative stay was 3.7 days. There were four patients (23.5%) with seromas identified at day 10, only two remained at 6 weeks and none at 12 weeks. None had significant bleeding intraoperatively or postoperatively. There was no superficial or deep wound infection (including mesh infection). There was no recurrence of inguinal hernia. Two patients (11.7%) developed post-TURP urethral stricture and underwent cystoscopic stricturoplasty, 3 and 2.5 months after the initial procedure. Over 9 years, 17 patients with co-existing uncomplicated unilateral or bilateral inguinal hernia (primary/recurrent) and significant benign prostatic hypertrophy were operated in the same sitting. The following outcomes were compared duration of the surgery, conversion to open hernia surgery, intraoperative and post-operative complications, duration of hospital stay, recurrence, time taken to resume normal activity and cost of the treatment. This study included 17 patients with a mean age of 65 years (range of 50-87 years). The average time taken for the surgery was 115 min with no conversion to open hernia repair. This survey was conducted to determine the impact of the pandemic and the changes being adopted in the field of MIS, from a resource-limited developing country, India. The survey was carried out from 27 July to 22 August 2020, amongst MIS surgeons in India using an online questionnaire generated on Google Forms. Identifying farms most likely to have poor welfare is an important strategy for improving animal welfare overall, and for maximising the capacity for checking regulatory compliance when resources are limited. We found a greater proportion of broiler farms overall remained consistently in the best quartile (16.4%) rather than the worst quartile (6.6%). Metagenomic and culture-based methods were used to profile and characterise the seed microbiome composition of drought tolerant and drought susceptible wheat lines under rainfed and drought conditions. Isolates from certain genera were enriched by drought tolerant wheat lines when placed under drought stress. Wheat inoculated with isolates from these targeted genera, such as Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens (Cf D3-25) and Arthrobacter sp. (Ar sp. D4-14) demonstrated the ability to promote growth under drought conditions. This study indicates seed microbiomes from genetically distinct wheat lines enrich for beneficial bacteria in ways that are both line-specific and responsive to environmental stress. As such, seed from stress-phenotyped lines represent an invaluable resource for the identification of beneficial microbes with plant growth promoting activity that could improve commercial crop production.

    Sixteen young (eight women, eight men; 22±3years) active adults underwent a bilateral electrical stimulation protocol in which multiple (n=4) measurements of k for the vastus lateralis (VL) and medial hamstring (MH) muscles were determined on two visits. Repeatability (CV% and intraclass correlations, ICC) and equivalency across visits were assessed for both muscles.

    Mean k values in the VL were consistent with published values and within-visit ICCs were moderately high for both muscles in both sexes. In men, average k values on visit 2 were within 1% (VL muscle) and 5% (MH muscle) of the values on visit 1 (all p>0.78). In women, average k values were 10%-15% lower on visit 2 (p=0.01 and p=0.15 for MH and VL) with the largest between-visit differences in a subset of participants with the most days between visits.
