The nanocomposites are characterized by a closely connected solution combustion synthesized graphene-metal structure with a number of graphene layers from 1 to 3 and fine metal grains sizes of 31 nm (Cu) and 14 nm (CuNi). The experimental data showed the obtained graphene-metal nanocomposites are among the most effective catalysts for CO oxidation with a temperature of 100% conversion of 150 °C and 200 °C for Cu and CuNi containing catalysts, respectively. Participants (N = 100) were asked to encode words presented in different auditory contexts (highly and lowly pleasant classical music, and control white noise), played before and during (N = 49), or only before (N = 51) the encoding. The Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire was used to measure participants' sensitivity to musical reward. 24 h later, participants' verbal episodic memory was tested (old/new recognition and remember/know paradigm). Results revealed that participants with a high musical reward sensitivity present an increased recollection performance, especially for words encoded in a highly pleasant musical context. Furthermore, this effect persists even when the auditory stimulus is not concurrently present during the encoding of target items. DJ-1 is a chaperone protein involved in the protection against PD and genetic mutations in this protein have been shown to cause familial PD. However, how the deficiency of DJ-1 influences the risk of PD remains incompletely understood. In the present study, we provide evidence that DJ-1 is implicated in shaping the gut microbiome including; their metabolite production, inflammation and innate immune cells (ILCs) development. We revealed that deficiency of DJ-1 leads to a significant increase in two specific genera/species, namely Alistipes and Rikenella.

We first developed a CD-AOF medium for hepatocytes, ECs, and stage-matched MCs, i.e., septum transversum mesenchyme (STM), in 2D cultures. We next generated all iPSC-LBs by incubating individual cell types in ultra-low attachment micro-dimple plates. The hepatic functions of all iPSC-LBs generated using the CD-AOF medium were equivalent to those of all iPSC-LBs generated using the conventional medium both in vitro and in vivo. In this article, we focused on the impact of the joint effects of RNA-seq pipelines on gene expression estimation as well as the downstream prediction of disease outcomes. First, we developed and applied three metrics (i.e., accuracy, precision, and reliability) to quantitatively evaluate each pipeline's performance on gene expression estimation. We then investigated the correlation between the proposed metrics and the downstream prediction performance using two real-world cancer datasets (i.e., SEQC neuroblastoma dataset and the NIH/NCI TCGA lung adenocarcinoma dataset). Fin clips were taken, and DNA was extracted. Polymorphic microsatellites (13) were used to prepare genetic profiles, assess genetic variation in the fish and estimate genetic diversity in their progeny. Alleles were scored using an automatic capillary sequencer. The four and eight best variants of spawning pairs, and the optimal sets for group volitional breeding (four males, four females; eight males, eight females) were identified using Genassemblage 2.0. In the sets of 8 and 16 fish for group breeding, the mean heterozygosity, the number of alleles, and the share of "weak" heterozygotes (0.493, 24, 0.239 and 0.479, 23, 0.257, respectively) were better than the mean values for the progeny of all potential breeding pairs. For group volitional breeding, one set of four males and four females, and numerous sets of eight males and eight females would enable transmission of all 33 alleles identified in the potential broodstock and an expected progeny heterozygosity of 0.441 and 0.414, respectively. These expected heterozygosity values are higher than those in the broodstock.   • Children spend a significant amount of their day in preschool; thus, environmental quality at preschools may have an impact on children's health. In the present study, we analyzed polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs), including PAHs, alkylated PAHs and oxygenated PAHs (OPAHs), in indoor and outdoor air particulate matter (PM10) and indoor dust at preschools in Stockholm, Sweden. There were significant correlations between PAC levels in outdoor and indoor PM10, with in general higher PAC levels outdoors. Fluoranthene and pyrene were detected at highest levels in all sample types, although phenanthrene and methylated phenanthrene derivatives also were found at high levels in indoor dust. In addition, the highly carcinogenic PAHs 7H-benzo[c]fluorene, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene, benz[j]aceanthrylene, and dibenzo[a,l]pyrene were detected in some samples. Benzanthrone was the most prevalent OPAH in PM10 samples and 9,10-anthraquinone in indoor dust. Based on diagnostic ratios and Positive Matrix Factorization we identified vehicle emission and biomass burning as important PAC sources for all samples analyzed. However, poor correlation between PAC levels in indoor PM10 and indoor dust suggested additional sources for the latter. Measuring activation of DNA damage signaling in human cells exposed to organic extracts of the samples indicated substantial genotoxic potential of outdoor PM10 and indoor dust. Determination of benzo[a]pyrene equivalents demonstrated that the highly potent PAHs benz[j]aceanthrylene and dibenz[a,h]anthracene contributed more than 20% to the total carcinogenic potency of the samples.     Children spend a significant amount of their day in preschool; thus, environmental quality at preschools may have an impact on children's health. In the present study, we analyzed polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs), including PAHs, alkylated PAHs and oxygenated PAHs (OPAHs), in indoor and outdoor air particulate matter (PM10) and indoor dust at preschools in Stockholm, Sweden. There were significant correlations between PAC levels in outdoor and indoor PM10, with in general higher PAC levels outdoors. Fluoranthene and pyrene were detected at highest levels in all sample types, although phenanthrene and methylated phenanthrene derivatives also were found at high levels in indoor dust. In addition, the highly carcinogenic PAHs 7H-benzo[c]fluorene, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene, benz[j]aceanthrylene, and dibenzo[a,l]pyrene were detected in some samples. Benzanthrone was the most prevalent OPAH in PM10 samples and 9,10-anthraquinone in indoor dust. Based on diagnostic ratios and Positive Matrix Factorization we identified vehicle emission and biomass burning as important PAC sources for all samples analyzed. However, poor correlation between PAC levels in indoor PM10 and indoor dust suggested additional sources for the latter. Measuring activation of DNA damage signaling in human cells exposed to organic extracts of the samples indicated substantial genotoxic potential of outdoor PM10 and indoor dust. Determination of benzo[a]pyrene equivalents demonstrated that the highly potent PAHs benz[j]aceanthrylene and dibenz[a,h]anthracene contributed more than 20% to the total carcinogenic potency of the samples.   • As a versatile reaction for bioconjugation, Cu(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) has enormous potential in the synthesis of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). In order to optimize CuAAC-based ADC synthesis, we characterized kinetically different formulation processes by mimicking ADC synthesis using small molecules and subsequently revealed unique kinetic behaviors of different combinations of alkyne and azide conditions. Our results indicate that under ADC synthesis conditions, for an alkyne-containing drug, its concentration has minimal impact on the reaction rate when an antibody has a non-metal-chelating azide but is proportional to concentration when an antibody contains a metal-chelating azide; however, for an alkyne-containing antibody, the ADC synthesis rate is proportional to the concentration of a drug with a non-metal-chelating azide but displays almost no dependence on drug concentration with a metal-chelating azide. Based on our results, we designed and tested an optimal "click" formulation strategy that allowed rapid and cost-effective synthesis of a new ADC.
    During primary and revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) lesions of the superior gluteal nerve (SGN) can substantially compromise patient outcome. For the primary direct anterior approach (DAA) and its proximal approach extensions, especially the muscular branch entering the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) muscle is at risk. SGN lesions can result in fatty atrophy and functional loss of the TFL. Therefore, the course and branching pattern of the SGN were examined and related to the DAA and its proximal approach extension. The aim of the study is to describe safe and danger zones for the SGN with regard to the DAA and its proximal extensions.

    Twenty-five formalin-fixed cadavers with 48 hemipelves were dissected. The course, distribution, and branching pattern of the SGN and its muscular branch inserting into the TFL muscle were investigated with regard to the DAA with the help of anatomical landmarks like the greater trochanter and the iliac tubercle.

    In 72.9% of the specimens the SGN passed the greater sciatic foramen superior to the piriformis muscle with one main trunk. The muscular branch of the SGN supplying the TFL divided from the main branch in 89.6% of the specimens at the level of the greater sciatic foramen. Before entering the TFL muscle the muscular branch showed a variable branching pattern in the interval between the gluteus medius and minimus. A danger zone for the SGN with regard to the DAA was found in the proximal fourth of the skin incision.

    We designed this study to determine whether a Frailty Deficit Index (FI) confers added risk stratification beyond more traditional methods. The associations of preoperative scores on FI, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) with complications after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) were compared.

    Using a single institution cohort of adult patients ≥50 years undergoing primary or revision TJA from 2005 to 2016, we assessed how well the FI, CCI, and ASA scores predicted risk of mortality, infection, and reoperation. We performed 7 models for each outcome FI, ASA, and CCI alone, FI+ ASA, FI+ CCI, ASA+ CCI, and FI+ ASA+ CCI. Cox proportional hazards regression methods were used to calculate the concordance (C-) statistic, a measure of discrimination.

Pelvic IGRT has several general IGRT issues to consider (such as choice of match strategy, prioritisation between multiple treatment targets and margin estimates) as well as issues specific to pelvic radiotherapy, in particular large inter-fraction organ variation. A range of interventions, including adaptive treatment strategies, have been developed to address these challenges. This review covers general considerations for the clinical implementation of pelvic IGRT in routine practice and provides an overview of current knowledge regarding pelvic inter-fraction organ motion. Published IGRT evidence for each of the major tumour sites (gynaecological, prostate, bladder, rectal and anal cancer) is summarised, as are state-of-the-art adaptive approaches. General recommendations for the implementation of an institutional pelvic IGRT strategy include. •Ensuring consistency between treatment intent and the IGRT approach utilised. •Ensuring minimum national and international IGRT guidance is followed while considering the benefit of daily volumetric IGRT. •Ensuring the appropriate allied health professionals (namely therapy radiographers/radiation therapists) lead on undertaking IGRT. •Ensuring the IGRT workflow procedure is clear and includes an escalation process for difficult set-ups. •Ensuring a robust IGRT service is in place before implementing advanced adaptive approaches.

  • Alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) is a 140-amino acid (aa) protein encoded by the Synuclein alpha SNCA gene. It can compete and substitute oil derived chemicals in several application fields. In the present work, the use of micro-fibrillated cellulose, in waterborne adhesive systems applied in the manufacture of composite wood-based panels was evaluated. Research was conducted to test the potential of improving the performance of wood-based panel types such as particleboard, waferboard or randomly-oriented strand board and plywood, by the application of ****and the substitution of conventional and non-renewable chemical compounds. The approaches followed to introduce ****into the adhesive systems were three, i.e., ****2% suspension added during the adhesive resin synthesis, ****10% paste admixed with the already prepared adhesive resin and ****2% suspension admixed with the already prepared resin. It was found that ****improves not only the performance of the final wood panel products but also the behaviour of the applied adhesive polymer colloids (e.g., rheology improvement), especially when admixed with the already prepared resins. Moreover, it was proven that when ****is introduced into the adhesive resin system, there is a possibility of decreasing the resin consumption, by maintaining the board performance. ****s robustness to pH, shear and temperature makes it a highly interesting new additive for adhesive producers.     This review conforms to the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR)." A systematic search on eight platforms was performed in August 2018 and was updated in April 2020.

    From 10,753 documents screened, 166 met the selection criteria. Over half of the studies were cross-sectional, and the majority utilized self-reported measurements (physical activity 81.1%, sedentary behavior 88.5%). More than two-thirds of the studies examined physical activity only (67.5%). The top three subtopics reported were prevalence/measurement, correlates, and outcomes of physical activity (28%, 24.6%, and 17%, respectively). The prevalence of "sufficient" physical activity ranges between 12.2% and 52.3%, while the prevalence of sedentary behavior ≥3 h per day ranges between 24.5% and 33.8%.

    Future studies need to focus more on intervention and validation, and research needs to be conducted more with nationally representative samples and on youth at the junior high school level. Future studies need to investigate more on psychological, cognitive, affective, social, cultural, and environmental correlates, and in-depth personal views of physical activity and sedentary behavior. Spliced variants of α-Syn, leading to the expression of several shorter forms which are more prone to aggregation, are associated with both PD and AUD, and common transcript variants may be able to predict at-risk populations for some movement disorders or subtypes of PD, including secondary Parkinsonism. Both PD and AUD are associated with liver and brain iron dyshomeostasis. Research over the past decade has shown that α-Syn has iron import functions with an ability to oxidize the Fe3+ form of iron to Fe2+ to facilitate its entry into cells. Our prior research has identified an iron-responsive element (IRE) in the 5' untranslated region (5'UTR) of α-Syn mRNA, and we have used the α-Syn 5'UTR to screen for small molecules that modulate its expression in the H4 neuronal cell line. These screens have led us to identify several interesting small molecules capable of both decreasing and increasing α-Syn expression and that may have the potential, together with the recently described mesenchymal stem cell therapies, to normalize α-Syn expression in different regions of the alcoholic and PD brain.Micro-Fibrillated Cellulose (MFC) is a new type of bio-based additive, coming from wood cellulose. It can compete and substitute oil derived chemicals in several application fields. In the present work, the use of micro-fibrillated cellulose, in waterborne adhesive systems applied in the manufacture of composite wood-based panels was evaluated. Research was conducted to test the potential of improving the performance of wood-based panel types such as particleboard, waferboard or randomly-oriented strand board and plywood, by the application of MFC and the substitution of conventional and non-renewable chemical compounds. The approaches followed to introduce MFC into the adhesive systems were three, i.e., MFC 2% suspension added during the adhesive resin synthesis, MFC 10% paste admixed with the already prepared adhesive resin and MFC 2% suspension admixed with the already prepared resin. It was found that MFC improves not only the performance of the final wood panel products but also the behaviour of the applied adhesive polymer colloids (e.g., rheology improvement), especially when admixed with the already prepared resins. Moreover, it was proven that when MFC is introduced into the adhesive resin system, there is a possibility of decreasing the resin consumption, by maintaining the board performance. MFC's robustness to pH, shear and temperature makes it a highly interesting new additive for adhesive producers. In addition, its natural origin can give adhesive producers the opportunity to move over to more environmentally friendly product solutions. This study aimed to map physical activity and sedentary behaviour research trends, designs, and topics for Indonesian youth. This review conforms to the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR)." A systematic search on eight platforms was performed in August 2018 and was updated in April 2020. From 10,753 documents screened, 166 met the selection criteria. Over half of the studies were cross-sectional, and the majority utilized self-reported measurements (physical activity 81.1%, sedentary behavior 88.5%). More than two-thirds of the studies examined physical activity only (67.5%). The top three subtopics reported were prevalence/measurement, correlates, and outcomes of physical activity (28%, 24.6%, and 17%, respectively). The prevalence of "sufficient" physical activity ranges between 12.2% and 52.3%, while the prevalence of sedentary behavior ≥3 h per day ranges between 24.5% and 33.8%. Future studies need to focus more on intervention and validation, and research needs to be conducted more with nationally representative samples and on youth at the junior high school level. We aim to investigate the association between carbohydrate, fat, and protein intake and all-cause mortality in Koreans. This cohort study investigated 42,192 participants from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) linked with causes of death data (2007-2015). Hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated using the multivariable Cox proportional regression model after adjusting for confounders. We documented 2110 deaths during the follow-up period.     We performed a cluster-randomized, population-based survey of caregivers of children in a rural district in Ghana, representing 2713 households and 14,032 children. Caregivers were interviewed regarding childhood burn injuries within the past 6 months and household risk factors.

    357 households were sampled. Most used an open fire with biomass fuel for cooking (85.8%). Households rarely cooked in a separate kitchen (10%). Stove height was commonly within reach of children under five years (<1 m; 96.0%). The weighted annualized incidence of CBI was 63 per 1000 child-years (6.4% of children per year); reported mean age was 4.4 years (SD 4.0). The most common etiology was flame burn. Older age (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.8-1.0) and households with an older sibling ≥12 years (OR 0.58, 95% CI 0.3-1.3) seemed to be associated with lower odds of CBI.

Within the UK, findings identified during ultrasound examination are delivered by sonographers as standard. However, little is known about the experiences of sonographers when delivering unexpected news (DUN), the impact this has on them, or their preferences for training on news delivery.

    Qualitative interviews were completed with fourteen sonographers and were analysed using an inductive thematic approach. Key themes were identified.

    Participants said that obstetric ultrasound often involves 'managing' the patient encounter, including navigating (unrealistic) patient expectations; handling their own responses to unexpected findings; and managing interaction by moderating emotional expression and communication practices to deliver patient-centred and empathic care. Persistent uncertainty of outcomes, prognosis and patient reactions, alongside high workloads, and frequent siloed working, makes DUN challenging for sonographers.

  • To investigate the expressions of fibrinogen (Fib) and Interleukin-12 (IL-12) in serum of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and to analyze the correlation between the two and their relationship with clinicopathological features.

    Forty two children with NEC treated in Xuzhou Children's Hospital, Xuzhou Medical University Xuzhou, China from 2016-2019 were selected as an observation group and 40 children who underwent physical examination at the same period as a control group. The expression levels of Fib and IL-12 in the serum of two groups were detected by ELISA. The correlation between Fib and IL-12 in the observation group and the correlation among the expressions of Fib, IL-12, the clinicopathological features and common examination indexes of the children with NEC were investigated by Pearson correlation analysis.

    The levels of Fib and IL-12 in the serum of the children in observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group were (
    <0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between the levels of Fib and IL-12 in the serum of the children in observation group (

    Published studies until Jan 2019 were searched using PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, ISI Web of Science, Proquest and Google scholar, MagIran, SID and IranMedex. Studies in English or Persian language surveyed attitudes toward surrogacy for infertile women published until Jan 2019. Animal studies and studies with poor methodological quality were excluded from the review.

    Six eligible studies including 1359 infertile women were identified. Of these, 559 and 742 women agreed and disagreed with surrogacy respectively. The overall event rate of positive attitude for surrogacy in infertile women was %39.7 (%95 CI=24.5 to 57.1, P=0.245).

    In this systematic review, all studies examining the risk assessment of ICUs in hospitals using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis method were reviewed. Google scholar, PubMed, Scopus, SID, Magiran and Web of Science databases were searched to find relevant articles published from 1980 to 2019.

    We aimed to examine the available evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of corticosteroids on the management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV).

In this study, high-throughput sequencing technology based on the Illumina Hiseq 2500 platform was used to investigate the structure and diversity of endophytic bacterial communities using upland rice varieties collected from different locations and soil samples from unified planting sites as materials. Here, 42 endophytic OTUs were found to coexist in the 14 samples. At the phylum level, the first dominant phyla in all the samples were Proteobacteria (93.81-99.99%). At the genus level, Pantoea (8.77-87.77%), Pseudomonas (1.15-61.58%), Methylobacterium (0.40-4.64%), Sphingomonas (0.26-3.85%), Microbacterium (0.01-4.67%) and Aurantimonas (0.04-4.34%), which represent the core microflora in upland rice seeds, served as the dominant genera that coexisted in all the upland rice seeds tested. This study significant for the isolation, screening, functional evaluation, and re-action of various functional microorganisms in upland rice to improve its agronomic traits. PHA production was performed in a controlled bioreactor by batch and fed-batch modes using wild-type B. megaterium and rec-B. megaterium cells overexpressing the native phaC gene. The effect of oxygen transfer rate on biomass formation and PHA accumulation was also investigated, under different dissolved oxygen levels. Structural and thermal properties of PHA were characterized by GC-FID, 1H-NMR, TGA and DSC analyses. Significantly, the copolymer produced from glucose as the carbon source in rec-B. megaterium was composed of 58 mol% of 3-hydroxyvalerate monomers. After 66 h, rec-B. megaterium cells in fed-batch fermentation with a pre-determined growth rate µ0 = 0.1 h-1 produced the highest CDW (7.7 g L-1) and PHA concentration (6.1 g L-1). Moreover, an exponential glucose feeding profile resulted in 2.2-fold increase in PHA yield compared to batch cultivation. In this condition, an efficiency of 91.5% with a productivity of 8.0 g L-1 h-1 was obtained at approximately 7 h of fermentation.

    Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) is an emerging uncontrollable and neglected infectious disease worldwide including Iran. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression profile of apoptosis-related miRNA and its target gene in macrophages.

  • Arctigenin can be used as a lead compound for the development of lung adenocarcinoma therapy drugs. Over the last two decades, developments in nanomedicine have resulted in technical advances with application to clinical science. Both organic and inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have shown tolerability, pharmacologic specificity and biodegradability. A subclass of NPs, protein NPs, have garnered recent attention due to the inherent biocompatibility of protein substrates. Protein NPs are currently being employed widely in pharmaceuticals development with applications in nasal, pulmonary, intravenous, ocular and oral delivery. Despite the distinct advantages of orally administered pharmaceuticals, the development of oral delivery systems has been comparatively limited. Therefore, this review attempts to discuss the most recent experimental and pre-clinical findings in the development of protein NPs for oral delivery, while envisioning upcoming challenges. As the outermost layer of the eye, the cornea is vulnerable to physical and chemical trauma, which can result in loss of transparency and lead to corneal blindness. Given the global corneal donor shortage, there is an unmet need for biocompatible corneal substitutes that have high transparency, mechanical integrity and regenerative potentials. Herein we engineered a dual-layered collagen vitrigel containing biomimetic synthetic Bowman's membrane (sBM) and stromal layer (sSL). The sBM supported rapid epithelial cell migration, maturation and multilayer formation, and the sSL containing tissue-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) microparticles presented a biomimetic lamellar ultrastructure mimicking the native corneal stroma. The incorporation of tissue-derived microparticles in sSL layer significantly enhanced the mechanical properties and suturability of the implant without compromising the transparency after vitrification. In vivo performance of the vitrigel in a rabbit anterior lamellar keratoplasty model showed full re-epithelialization within 14 days and integration of the vitrigel with the host tissue stroma by day 30. The migrated epithelial cells formed functional multilayer with limbal stem cell marker p63 K14 expressed in the lower layer, epithelial marker K3 and K12 expressed through the layers and tight junction protein ZO-1 expressed by the multilayers. Corneal fibroblasts migrated into the implants to facilitate host/implant integration and corneal stromal regeneration. In summary, these results suggest that the multi-functional layers of this novel collagen vitrigel exhibited significantly improved biological performance as corneal substitute by harnessing a fast re-epithelialization and stromal regeneration potential. Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhi, a human enteric pathogen causing typhoid fever, developed resistance to multiple antibiotics over the years. The current study was dedicated to understand the multi-drug resistance (MDR) mechanism of S. enterica serovar Typhi CT18 and to identify potential drug targets that could be exploited for new drug discovery. We have employed gene interaction network analysis for 44 genes which had 275 interactions. Clustering analysis resulted in three highly interconnecting clusters (C1-C3). Functional enrichment analysis revealed the presence of drug target alteration and three different multi-drug efflux pumps in the bacteria that were associated with antibiotic resistance. We found seven genes (arnA,****D,E,F,T) conferring resistance to Cationic Anti-Microbial Polypeptide (CAMP) molecules by membrane Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) modification, while **** was observed to be an essential controlling hub of the network and played a crucial role in MacAB-TolC efflux pump. Further, we identified five genes (mdtH, mdtM, mdtG, emrD and mdfA) which were involved in Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS) efflux system and acrAB contributed towards AcrAB-TolC efflux pump. All three efflux pumps were seen to be highly dependent on tolC gene. The five genes, namely tolC, ****, acrA, acrB and mdfA which were involved in multiple resistance pathways, can act as potential drug targets for successful treatment strategies. Elevated T. gondii-specific IgG and IgA antibody responses were observed from the sera of AMA1 VLP-immunized ****. Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced mainly by fungi belonging to the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium, Claviceps, and Alternaria that contaminate basic food products throughout the world, whether developing countries becoming predominantly affected. Currently, more than 500 mycotoxins are reported in which the most important concern to public health and agriculture include AFB1, OTA, TCTs (especially DON, T-2, HT-2), FB1, ZEN, PAT, CT, and EAs. The presence of mycotoxin in significant quantities poses health risks varying from allergic reactions to death on both humans and animals. This review brings attention to the present status of mycotoxin contamination of food products and recommended control strategies for mycotoxin mitigation. Humans are exposed to mycotoxins directly through the consumption of contaminated foods while, indirectly through carryover of toxins and their metabolites into animal tissues, milk, meat and eggs after ingestion of contaminated feeds. Pre-harvest (field) control of mycotoxin production and post-harvest (storage) mitigation of contamination represent the most effective approach to limit mycotoxins in food and feed.
