Therefore, our results show that PD might better preserve the synthetic NO-pathway in CKD-erythrocytes. We also examined the added effect of a ketone supplement (KS). Overweight adults were randomized to a 6-week KD (KD + PL) or a KD with KS (KD + KS); an LFD group was recruited separately. All diets were estimated to provide 75% of energy expenditure. Weight loss was similar between groups (p > 0.05). Liver fat assessed by magnetic resonance imaging decreased after 6 week (p = 0.004) with no group differences (p > 0.05). A subset with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (liver fat > 5%, n = 12) showed a greater reduction in liver fat, but no group differences. In KD participants with NAFLD, 92% of the variability in change in liver fat was explained by baseline liver fat (p less then 0.001). A short-term hypocaloric KD high in saturated fat does not adversely impact liver health and is not impacted by exogenous ketones. Hypocaloric low-fat and KDs can both be used in the short-term to significantly reduce liver fat in individuals with NAFLD.As an essential modulator of IgG disposition, the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) governs the pharmacokinetics and functions many therapeutic modalities. In this review, we thoroughly reexamine the hitherto elucidated biological and thermodynamic properties of FcRn to provide context for our assessment of more recent advances, which covers antigen-binding fragment (Fab) determinants of FcRn affinity, transgenic preclinical models, and FcRn targeting as an immune-complex (IC)-clearing strategy. We further comment on therapeutic antibodies authorized for treating SARS-CoV-2 (bamlanivimab, casirivimab, and imdevimab) and evaluate their potential to saturate FcRn-mediated recycling. Finally, we discuss modeling and simulation studies that probe the quantitative relationship between in vivo IgG persistence and in vitro FcRn binding, emphasizing the importance of endosomal transit parameters.South Africa (SA) launched their 24-h movement guidelines for birth to five years in December 2018. The guideline dissemination plan adopted a "train-the-trainer" strategy through dissemination workshops with community-based organisations (CBOs) working in early childhood development. The aim of this paper is to (1) document this dissemination process; and (2) report on the feasibility of implementing the dissemination workshops, the acceptability of the workshops (and guidelines) for different end-user groups, and the extent to which CBO representatives disseminated the guidelines to end-users. Fifteen workshops were held in seven of SA's nine provinces with a total of 323 attendees. Quantitative and qualitative findings (n = 281) indicate that these workshops were feasible for community-based dissemination of the guidelines and that this method of dissemination was acceptable to CBOs and end-users. Findings from follow-up focus groups (6 groups, n = 28 participants) indicate that the guidelines were shared with end-users of CBOs who participated in the focus groups. An additional musical storytelling resource, the "Woza, Mntwana" song, was well-received by participants; sharing via WhatsApp was believed to be the most effective way to disseminate this song. These findings confirm the feasibility and acceptability of culturally appropriate and context-specific community-based dissemination of behavioural guidelines in low-income settings.The Korean government is activating an integrated nurse care service, in which all inpatient care services are provided by a proper nursing team without a caregiver or a guardian staying at the hospital. This study was to examine the influence of empathy and self-efficacy on the elderly nursing practice of nurses at integrated nurse care service wards in South Korea. A cross-sectional descriptive design was employed. Participants included 238 nurses who were working at integrated nurse care service wards in hospitals in Seoul, South Korea. Measures were a general characteristics form, the Empathy Construct Rating Scale, the Korean Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Korean Elderly Nursing Practice Scale. Data were collected from February to May 2017. The findings show a slightly higher level of empathy; an almost intermediate level of self-efficacy; and a high level of elderly nursing practice in Korean nurses at integrated nurse care service wards. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Bleomycin-sulfate.html The only factor found to impact significantly on elderly nursing practice was empathy. The global active prevalence of migraines is approximately 14.7%. Oxygen therapy may reduce the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which often have various negative side effects. The purpose of this systematic review is to analyze the literature on the efficacy of high flow oxygen for the management of headache disorders, compared to placebo treatment.
Studies were identified by PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus database from 1980 to the 30 October 2020. The search included the following terms "oxygen therapy" and "headache" and "migraine". Studies were included if high flow oxygen was used in the treatment of headache disorders. All selected studies were qualitatively analyzed.
Our literature search identified 71 studies, of which 65 were discarded and 6 were included in the meta-analysis. The random effect model did not show a pooled significant resolution of headache disorders (OR 2.08 (95% CI 0.92-4.70),
< 0.0001) in the oxygen therapy group compared to the placebo group.
In our systematic review of six studies, there were no significant differences between high flow oxygen and placebo treatment groups.

The purpose of this study was to do better than the simple maximal axial area (MArea
) and to validate simple, fast and robust orthogonal methods for determining the left atrium volume (LAV) with cardiac CT (CCT).
A total of 60 patients who underwent CTT were retrospectively included. There were 30 men and 30 women with a mean age of 59±12 (SD) years (range 27-80 years), using four methods to assess LAV beyond the MArea
two orthogonal methods requiring the measurements of axial, coronal and sagittal planes of 3 diameters LAV

The average spatial frequency of the NPS peaked at 70 keV and decreased as ADMIRE level increased. Chest computed tomography (CT) is a useful tool for the diagnosis of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), although its exact value for predicting critical illness remains unclear. This study evaluated the efficacy of chest CT to predict disease progression, pulmonary complications, and viral positivity duration.
A single-center cohort study was conducted by consecutively including hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19. The chest CT patterns were described and a total severity score was calculated. The predictive accuracy of the severity score was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic analysis, while a Cox proportional hazards regression model was implemented to identify the radiological features that are linked to prolonged duration of viral positivity.
Overall, 42 patients were included with 10 of them requiring intensive care unit admission. The most common lesions were ground glass opacities (92.9%), consolidation (66.7%), and crazy-paving patterns (61.9%). The total severity ficacy of the severity score and elucidate the long-term pulmonary effects of COVID-19.

Foliar exposure to PSNPs significantly decreased the dry weight, height, and leaf area of lettuce by 14.3%-27.3%, 24.2%-27.3%, and 12.7%-19.2%, respectively, compared with the control. Similarly, plant pigment content (chlorophyll a, b and carotenoid) was considerably reduced (9.1%, 8.7%, 12.5%) at 1 mg/L PSNPs. However, the significant increase in electrolyte leakage rate (18.6%-25.5%) and the decrease in total antioxidant capacity (12.4%-26%) were the key indicators of oxidative stress in lettuce leaves, demonstrating the phytotoxicity of PSNPs by foliar exposure. These hazards may release to air, water, and soil, posing great threat to the living organisms in the surroundings. In the present work, we profiled the heavy metal contents, microbiome and resistome of a mine tailing in Dexing Copper Mine, which is the largest open-pit copper mine in China. A total of 39.75 Gb clean data was generated by metagenomics sequencing and taxonomy analysis revealed Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Euryarchaeota, and Nitrospirae as the most abundant phylum in this tailing. In general, 76 heavy metal resistance genes (HMRGs) and 194 antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) were identified with merA and rpoB2 as the most abundant HMRG and ARG, respectively. We also compared the differences of heavy metal concentrations among the six sampling sites in the same tailing and found that significant differences exited in copper and zinc. Hierarchical cluster analysis showed that the samples from the six sampling sites were clustering in two groups based on heavy metal concentrations. Accordingly, clustering based on microbial composition and relative abundances of resistance genes exhibited the same clustering pattern, indicating a possible shaping influence of heavy metals on the microbiome and resistome in this tailing. To develop a method for automatically detecting needles from CT images, which can be used in image-guided lung interstitial brachytherapy to assist needle placement assessment and dose distribution optimization.
Based on the preview model parameters evaluation, local optimization combining local random sample consensus, and principal component analysis, the needle shaft was detected quickly, accurately, and robustly through the modified random sample consensus algorithm. By tracing intensities along the axis, the needle tip was determined. Furthermore, multineedles in a single slice were segmented at once using successive inliers deletion.
The simulation data show that the segmentation efficiency is **** higher than the original random sample consensus and yet maintains a stable submillimeter accuracy. Experiments with physical phantom demonstrate that the segmentation accuracy of described algorithm depends on the needle insertion depth into the CT image. Application to permanent lung brachytherapy image is also validated, where manual segmentation is the counterparts of the estimated needle shape.

The results showed that it still maintained the one-dimensional hexagonal mesoporous structure of SBA-15 and had typical mesoporous structure. Then human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were infected with SBA-15, NH2 -SBA-15, and COOH-SBA-15. The results showed that the functionalized mesoporous silica SBA-15 had cytotoxicity to HUVECs and damaged the cell membrane, but compared with the unmodified mesoporous silica SBA-15 the cytotoxicity of functionalized mesoporous silica SBA-15 was lower and the toxicity of carboxyl modified group was the lowest. Based on the preview model parameters evaluation, local optimization combining local random sample consensus, and principal component analysis, the needle shaft was detected quickly, accurately, and robustly through the modified random sample consensus algorithm. By tracing intensities along the axis, the needle tip was determined. Furthermore, multineedles in a single slice were segmented at once using successive inliers deletion. The simulation data show that the segmentation efficiency is much higher than the original random sample consensus and yet maintains a stable submillimeter accuracy. Experiments with physical phantom demonstrate that the segmentation accuracy of described algorithm depends on the needle insertion depth into the CT image. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) has become standard of care in colorectal surgery. However, there is not a universally accepted colorectal ERAS protocol and significant variations in care exist between institutions. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of variations in ERAS interventions and complications on length of stay.
This study was a single-centre review of the first 200 consecutive patients recruited into our prospectively collected ERAS database. The primary outcome of this study was to examine the rate of compliance to ERAS interventions and the impact of these interventions on length of stay (LOS). The secondary outcome was to assess the impact of complications (anastomotic leak, ileus, surgical site infections) on LOS. ERAS interventions, rate of adherence, length of stay, readmissions, morbidity and mortality was recorded and analysis was performed on SPSS.
While there was a high agreement rate for pre-operative ERAS strategies, there was a lower agreement rate for post-opy. Both major and minor complications increased LOS. Anastomotic leak and ileus were associated with the greatest increase in LOS.

This study analyzed the effect of maternal and child factors on stunting and the significant indicators that shape the maternal and child factors that impact stunting.
This was a case-control study. Overall, 132 stunted children and 132 non-stunted children in Purbalingga Regency, Central Java Province, participated in the research. Direct interviews and medical record reviews were conducted to assess the studied variables. The research data were tested using the partial least squares structural equation with a formative model.
Maternal factors directly affected the occurrence of stunting (t = 3.527; P < 0.001) with an effect of 30.3%. Maternal factors also contributed a significant indirect effect on stunting through child factors (t = 4.762; P < 0.001) with an effect of 28.2%. Child factors affected the occurrence of stunting (t = 5.749; P < 0.001) with an effect of 49.8%. The child factor was influenced by maternal factor with an effect of 56.7% (t = 10.014; P < 0.001). The moderation analysis results demonstrated that maternal and child factors were moderate predictive variables of stunting occurrence.

Here, we review potential mechanisms and special clinical considerations of supplementation with curcumin as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound in the setting of COVID-19 clinical research.BackgroundFunctional dyspepsia is the main cause of upper abdominal discomfort affecting 5-10% of the world population. Despite various therapeutic approaches, up to 50% of patients with functional dyspepsia seek alternative treatments. In the present study we evaluated the effect of curcumin supplementation along with famotidine therapy on severity of functional dyspepsia. A total of 75 patients with functional dyspepsia according to Rome III criteria were allocated into intervention (N = 39) or control (N = 36) groups. The intervention group was treated with a combination of 500 mg curcumin and 40 mg famotidine daily for 1 month. The control group received placebo and 40 mg famotidine. Severity of dyspepsia symptoms was determined using the Hong Kong questionnaire at baseline, after the 1 month treatment and after a 1 month follow-up. The presence of H. pylori antigens in the stool samples was also investigated in all subjects. No significant difference was observed between intervention and control groups in biochemical indices, severity of dyspepsia and rate of H. pylori infection. A significant decrease was observed in severity of dyspepsia (p less then 0.001) and rate of H. pylori infection (p = 0.004) immediately after the treatment and follow-up in the curcumin intervention group. CUR and CDF powders were evaluated against dermatophyte species including Trichophyton tonsurans (n = 21), T. mentagrophytes (n = 19), T. interdigitale (n = 18), Microsporum canis (n = 4), T. benhamiae (n = 1), and T. verrucosum (n = 1), based on the CLSI M38-A2 guideline. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranges of CUR were 4-16, 8-16, 4-16, 8, 8, and 16 μg/ml for T. tonsurans, T. mentagrophytes, T. interdigitale, M. canis, T. benhamiae, and T. verrucosum, respectively. In this paper, we used molecular docking tools to assess the affinity of four curcumin derivatives (Curcumin, Cyclocurcumin, Demethoxycurcumin, Bisdemethoxycurcumin) as well as the endogenous ligand phosphorylcholine to C-reactive protein (CRP), a sensitive marker of systemic inflammation. Our results showed that curcumin interacts through H bond with CRP at GLN 150 and ASP 140. Similar H bond interactions were found for each of the four curcumin derivatives with CRP. Moreover, a molecular dynamic simulation were performed to further establish the interaction between CRP and the ligands in atomic details using the Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics (NAMD) and CHARMM27 force field. Importantly, our results suggest the possible interaction between curcumin and curcurmin related molecules with CRP, thus showing an important regulatory function with plausible applications in inflammatory and oxidative processes in diseases.

Group 1 received 500 mg metformin three times daily and group 2 received 80 mg/day capsule of curcumin nanomicelle and 500 mg metformin three times a day for 3 months. After collecting fasting blood samples, biochemical parameters including triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-densiic effect with metformin in the improvement of insulin resistance and lipid profile in patients with PCOS. CUR and CDF powders were evaluated against dermatophyte species including Trichophyton tonsurans (n = 21), T. mentagrophytes (n = 19), T. interdigitale (n = 18), Microsporum canis (n = 4), T. benhamiae (n = 1), and T. verrucosum (n = 1), based on the CLSI M38-A2 guideline. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranges of CUR were 4-16, 8-16, 4-16, 8, 8, and 16 μg/ml for T. tonsurans, T. mentagrophytes, T. interdigitale, M. canis, T. benhamiae, and T. verrucosum, respectively. In addition, MIC ranges of CDF were obtained as 2-32, 4-16, 0.125-16, 8-16, 8, and 16 μg/ml, for T. tonsurans, T. mentagrophytes, T. interdigitale, M. canis, T. benhamiae, and T. verrucosum, respectively. CUR and CDF showed an inhibitory effect against dermatophyte isolates. CDF showed a stronger effect than CUR, especially against T. interdigitale. Our results showed that curcumin interacts through H bond with CRP at GLN 150 and ASP 140. Similar H bond interactions were found for each of the four curcumin derivatives with CRP. Moreover, a molecular dynamic simulation were performed to further establish the interaction between CRP and the ligands in atomic details using the Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics (NAMD) and CHARMM27 force field. Oocyte cryo-survival, parthenogenetic activation and embryo development, parthenogenetic embryo maternal imprinted gene expression were outcome measures.
Oocyte cryo-survival was significantly improved in Vitr + DMSO versus Vitr - DMSO at initial warming and 2h after warming. Induced parthenogenetic activation was similar between all three intervention groups. While early preimplantation parthenogenetic embryo development was similar between control, Vitr + DMSO, Vitr - DMSO oocytes, the development to blastocysts was significantly inferior in the Vitr - DMSO oocytes group compared to the control and Vitr + DMSO oocyte groups. Finally, maternal imprinted gene expression was similar between intervention groups at both the 2-cell and blastocyst parthenogenetic embryo stage.

Here, we report five cases of G-CSF-producing tumors and review the literature, focusing on imaging findings related to tumor-produced G-CSF. In addition to our cases, we identified 30 previous reports of G-CSF-producing tumors on which 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET)/CT, bone scintigraphy, or evaluation of bone marrow MR findings was performed. White blood cell count, serum C-reactive protein, and serum interleukin-6 were elevated in all cases for which these parameters were measured. G-CSF-producing tumors presented large necrotic masses (mean diameter 83.2 mm, range 17-195 mm) with marked FDG uptake (mean maximum standardized uptake value 20.09). Diffuse FDG uptake into the bone marrow was shown in 28 of the 31 cases in which FDG-PET/CT was performed. The signal intensity of bone marrow suggested marrow reconversion in all seven MRI-assessable cases. Bone scintigraphy demonstrated no significant uptake, except in two cases with bone metastases. Splenic FDG uptake was increased in 8 of 10 cases in which it was evaluated. These imaging findings may reflect the effects of tumor-produced G-CSF. In this study, a kind of previously unknown molecular conformation-induced stress is revealed at the organic embedded interface through sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy technique. We analyze hydrological modulation of seismicity in Taiwan using groundwater level data and GNSS time series. In western Taiwan, the seismicity rate reaches peak levels in February to April and drops to its lowest values in July to September, exhibiting a direct correlation with annual water unloading. The elastic hydrological load cycle may be the primary driving mechanism for the observed synchronized modulation of earthquakes, as also evidenced by deep earthquakes in eastern Taiwan. However, shallow earthquakes in eastern Taiwan ( less then 18 km) are anticorrelated with water unloading, which is not well explained by either hydrological loading, fluid transport, or pore pressure changes and suggests other time-dependent processes. The moderate correlation between stacked monthly trends of large historic earthquakes and present-day seismicity implies a modestly higher seismic hazard during the time of low annual hydrological loading.

In this study, a kind of previously unknown molecular conformation-induced stress is revealed at the organic embedded interface through sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy technique. This stress can be greater than 10 kcal/mol per nm2 and is sufficient to induce molecular disorder in the organic semiconductor layer (with energy below 8 kcal/mol per nm2), finally causing instability of the organic transistor. This study not only reveals interface stress in organic devices but also correlates instability of organic devices with the interface stress for the first time, offering an effective solution for improving device stability.Delineation of physical factors that contribute to earthquake triggering is a challenging issue in seismology. We analyze hydrological modulation of seismicity in Taiwan using groundwater level data and GNSS time series. In western Taiwan, the seismicity rate reaches peak levels in February to April and drops to its lowest values in July to September, exhibiting a direct correlation with annual water unloading. The elastic hydrological load cycle may be the primary driving mechanism for the observed synchronized modulation of earthquakes, as also evidenced by deep earthquakes in eastern Taiwan. However, shallow earthquakes in eastern Taiwan ( less then 18 km) are anticorrelated with water unloading, which is not well explained by either hydrological loading, fluid transport, or pore pressure changes and suggests other time-dependent processes.
