A total of 87 candidate DEGs were identified by functional annotation based on GO and KEGG analysis. These candidate genes are involved in plant-pathogen interaction pathway, among which 54 and 33 DEGs were categorized into plant-pathogen interaction proteins and transcription factors, respectively. Proteins encoded by these genes have been reported to play an important role in the pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) and effector-triggered immunity (ETI) processes of disease responses in some model plants, such as Arabidopsis, rice, tobacco, and tomato. However, little is known about the mechanisms of these genes in resistance to downy mildew in Chinese cabbage. Each acute session was followed by a subacute session three days later. Participants received placebo (100 mg ascorbic acid) during one acute session, and MDMA (100 mg MDMA-HCl) at the other, with order counterbalanced. Participants completed the following tasks assessing prosocial behaviour a trust investment task, a trustworthy face rating task, an empathic stories task, a public project game, a dictator game and an ultimatum game. Methods. The characteristics of 6 patients with cerebral hemangioblastoma were analyzed, and a retrospective review of cerebral hemangioblastoma reported in the literature was performed. Results. All 6 patients were female, aged from 22 to 70 years (55 years on average), and all cases were wild-type sporadic, in which 4 cases occurred in the frontal lobe and 2 cases occurred in the parietal lobe. Imaging revealed a solid tumor in 4 cases, a cystic tumor in 1 case, and a mixed tumor in 1 case. Microscopically, the morphology and immunophenotype of tumor cells were not different from those of classical hemangioblastoma. All 6 patients survived tumor free during the follow-up period. Conclusions. Cerebral hemangioblastoma often simulates the imaging characteristics of meningioma or glioma. Enough attention should be paid to differential diagnosis before the operation, and exact diagnosis relies on the pathological examination.Introduction Osteoarthritis (OA) is a highly heterogenous disease influenced by different molecular, anatomic, and physiologic imbalances. In this narrative review, we analyze the potential of Raman spectroscopy (RS) as a label-free optical tool for the characterization of articular joint tissues and its application as a diagnosis tool for OA. Areas covered Raman spectra produce a unique 'molecular fingerprint' providing rotational and vibrational molecular information, allowing the identification and follow-up of molecular changes associated with OA pathological mechanisms. Focusing on multiple joint tissues (cartilage, synovium, bone, tendons, ligaments, and meniscus) and their contribution in disease incidence and progression, this review highlights the current knowledge on the application of RS in the characterization of organic and inorganic molecules present at these tissues and alterations that occur in the onset of OA. Expert opinion Vibrational spectroscopy techniques, such as RS, are low cost, rapid and minimally invasive approaches that offer high specificity in the assessment of the molecular composition of complex tissues. Combined with multivariate statistical methods, RS offers great potential for optical biomarkers discovery or disease diagnosis applications, and we hereby discuss clinical translational progresses on the field.

Joint space width is a tool that can be used, but with some limitation. Localized delivery of therapeutics directly into the kidney, via its arterial blood supply, has the potential to enhance their therapeutic efficacy while limiting side effects associated with conventional systemic delivery. Targeted delivery in humans is feasible given that we can access the renal arterial blood supply using minimally invasive endovascular techniques and imaging guidance. However, there is currently no described way to reproduce or mimic this approach in a small animal model. Here, we develop in **** a reproducible microsurgical technique for the delivery of therapeutics directly into each kidney, via its arterial blood supply. Using our technique, intra-arterially (IA) injected tattoo dye homogenously stained both kidneys, without staining any other organ. Survival studies showed no resulting mortality or iatrogenic kidney injury. We demonstrate the therapeutic potential of our technique in a mouse model of cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). Targeted delivery in humans is feasible given that we can access the renal arterial blood supply using minimally invasive endovascular techniques and imaging guidance. However, there is currently no described way to reproduce or mimic this approach in a small animal model. Here, we develop in mice a reproducible microsurgical technique for the delivery of therapeutics directly into each kidney, via its arterial blood supply. Using our technique, intra-arterially (IA) injected tattoo dye homogenously stained both kidneys, without staining any other organ. Once reduced to fewer than 500 during the 1960s, its global population has been recovering and is now over 3500, thanks to effective conservation programs in India and Nepal, the only two countries in the world where this species is found. It is one of the greatest success stories in biodiversity conservation given that hundreds of other species have disappeared, and thousands of species are on the verge of extinction. However, poaching is not the only threat for the long-term survival of rhinoceros. Loss and degradation of grassland habitat and the drying-up of wetlands are emerging threats predicted to worsen in the future, but the published information on rhinoceros has never been synthesized. In order to better understand the trends and current status of rhinoceros research and identify research gaps inhibiting its long-term conservation, we analyzed the themes discussed in 215 articles covering a period of 33 years between 1985 and 2018. Our findings suggest that studies on both free-ranging and captive rhinoceros are skewed towards biological aspects of the species including morphology, anatomy, physiology, and behaviour. There are no studies addressing the likely effects of climate change on the species, and limited information is available on rhinoceros genetics, diseases, habitat dynamics and the impacts of tourism and other infrastructure development in and around rhinoceros habitat. These issues will need addressing to maintain the conservation success of greater one-horned rhinoceros into the future. Large amounts of jarosites are produced during zinc hydrometallurgy and bioleaching, as well as in acid sulfate soils and acid mine drainage environments. As such, understanding the behavior of jarosite dissolution is important for analyzing the iron cycle process and promoting the control and treatment of jarosites. In general, soluble ferric ions and jarosites coexist in acid environments; however, the relationship between soluble ferric ions and jarosites under anaerobic reductive conditions is still not well understood. In this study, the effect of adding Fe3+ on the promotion of the bio-dissolution of jarosites using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is investigated. With the addition of 12 mM Fe3+, the efficiency and maximum rate of jarosite bio-dissolution were found to reach 84.1% and 2.66 mmol/(L·d), respectively. The addition of Fe3+ at concentrations higher than 12 mM did not further improve the jarosite bio-dissolution. These results indicate that the mechanisms underlying these improvements include (i) the reduction of the zeta potential due to the compression of the diffusion layer of the electric double layer by Fe3+; (ii) bacteria growth enhancement and the stabilization of the pH of cultures via the reduction of soluble Fe3+. Based on these observations, this study serves to promote the development of jarosite bio-dissolution using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and challenges the idea that soluble Fe3+ suppresses the bio-dissolution reaction of solid Fe3+ substances such as jarosite when soluble ferric ions and jarosite coexist. Emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals that cannot be completely removed by traditional biological treatments are ubiquitously present in water bodies with detected concentrations ranging from ng L-1 to mg L-1. We also calculated the pKa value of CLD and thermodynamic behaviors for reactions of CLD/HCLD+ with OH and SO4•- at M05-2X/6-311++G**//M05-2X/6-31+G** level with SMD solvation model. The pKa value was calculated to be 8.14, confirming the literature value. H atom abstraction pathway was the most favorable pathway for both OH and SO4•-, while single electron transfer pathway was thermodynamically feasible only for SO4•- for CLD but not for HCLD+.   • The extradural neural axis compartment (EDNAC) is an adipovenous zone located between the meningeal and endosteal layers of the dura and has been minimally investigated. It runs along the neuraxis from the orbits down to the coccyx and contains fat, valveless veins, arteries, and nerves. In the present review, we have outlined the current knowledge regarding the structural and functional significance of the EDNAC.

    We performed a narrative review of the reported EDNAC data.

    The EDNAC can be organized into 4 regional enlargements along its length the orbital, lateral sellar, clival, and spinal segments, with a lateral sellar orbital junction linking the orbital and lateral sellar segments. The orbital EDNAC facilitates the movement of the eyeball and elsewhere allows limited motility for the meningeal dura. The major nerves and vessels are cushioned and supported by the EDNAC. Increased intra-abdominal pressure will also be conveyed along the spinal EDNAC, causing increased venous pressure in the spine and cranium. From a pathological perspective, the EDNAC functions as a low-resistance, extradural passageway that might facilitate tumor encroachment and expansion.

    Clinicians should be aware of the extent and significance of the EDNAC, which could affect skull base and spine surgery, and have an understanding of the tumor spread pathways and growth patterns. Comparatively little research has focused on the EDNAC since its initial description. Therefore, future investigations are required to provide more information on this underappreciated component of neuraxial anatomy.

The techniques of placing a cancellous morselized bone graft (MBG) on decorticated surfaces of the atlantoaxial complex and securing a structural iliac bone graft (SBG) between C1 and C2 have been used widely. The aim of the present study was to compare the outcomes of these 2 bone grafting techniques for atlantoaxial arthrodesis.

    We investigated the added value of combining information from direction-encoded color (DEC) maps with high-resolution structural magnetic resonance imaging scans (T1-weighted images [T1WIs]) to improve the identification of regions of interest (ROIs) for fiber tracking during preoperative planning for patients with brain tumors.

    The dataset included 42 patients with gliomas and 10 healthy subjects from the Human Connectome Project. For identification of the ROIs, we combined the structural information from high-resolution T1WIs and the directional information from DEC maps. To test our hypothesis, we examined the interrater and intrarater agreement.

    We identified specific ROIs to extract the main white matter bundles. The directional information from the DEC maps combined with the T1WIs (T1WI-DEC maps) had significantly facilitated ROI identification in patients with brain tumors, especially patients in whom the tracts had been displaced by the mass effect of the tumor. Fiber tracking using the combined T1WI-DEC maps showed significantly greater inter- and intrarater agreement compared with using either T1WI or DEC maps alone.

Several bone grafting techniques for posterior atlantoaxial arthrodesis have been reported. The techniques of placing a cancellous morselized bone graft (MBG) on decorticated surfaces of the atlantoaxial complex and securing a structural iliac bone graft (SBG) between C1 and C2 have been used widely. The aim of the present study was to compare the outcomes of these 2 bone grafting techniques for atlantoaxial arthrodesis. The data from 64 patients with reducible atlantoaxial dislocation treated using posterior C1-C2 screw-rod fixation and fusion were retrospectively reviewed. The MBG technique had been used in 32 patients and the SBG technique in 32 patients. The time required for bone fusion was recorded. We investigated the added value of combining information from direction-encoded color (DEC) maps with high-resolution structural magnetic resonance imaging scans (T1-weighted images [T1WIs]) to improve the identification of regions of interest (ROIs) for fiber tracking during preoperative planning for patients with brain tumors. The dataset included 42 patients with gliomas and 10 healthy subjects from the Human Connectome Project. For identification of the ROIs, we combined the structural information from high-resolution T1WIs and the directional information from DEC maps.   • BACKGROUND Bimanual clot evacuation (BCE) is a simple clinical manoeuvre that may reduce need for surgical intervention in the management of severe postpartum haemorrhage (PPH). We sought to determine whether performing BCE in cases of severe PPH after vaginal birth reduces the need for surgical intervention. METHODS A retrospective chart review of women who delivered vaginally with a severe PPH between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2014 in a single tertiary women's hospital in Sydney, Australia was conducted. Severe PPH was classified as a blood loss ≥1000mls. The need for surgical management (including operating theatre uterine exploration or evacuation, intrauterine balloon tamponade, repair of significant trauma, uterine or internal iliac artery ligation, B-Lynch suture insertion or hysterectomy) was the primary outcome measure, as expressed by need for operating theatre utilisation. RESULTS From a cohort of 438, 149 women (34.0%) had BCE, of whom 29 (19.5%) required surgical management compared to 103 of 289 women with no BCE (35.6%); an odds ratio (OR) of 0.38 for BCE (confidence interval 0.20-0.72; p = 0.003). Early BCE ( 1 h of delivery). There was no reduction in estimated blood loss (p = 0.86) or blood transfusion (p = 0.71) with BCE. CONCLUSION Our study suggests BCE reduces theatre utilisation in the context of severe PPH following vaginal delivery. METHODS A total of 590 preschoolers, comprising 317 boys and 273 girls were included. Pre-pilot parental questionnaires were used to assess diet, physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour practices and anthropometry was assessed in preschoolers and their parents. RESULTS Multiple logistic regression analyses showed that preschoolers with more frequent weekly intake of snacks [OR 2.7; 95% CI, 1.6-4.4; p  less then  0.001] and monthly fast food consumption [OR 3.5; 95% CI, 1.9-6.3; p  less then  0.001], were associated with higher SSB intake (≥5 days in a week), after adjustments of potential confounders. Preschoolers with higher daily fruit and vegetable intake had lower SSB intake [OR 0.4; 95% CI, 0.2-0.8; p = 0.011]. A positive association of higher weekly vigorous PA [OR 2.0; 95% CI, 1.1-3.7; p = 0.030] and daily screen-based practices [OR 2.0; 95% CI, 1.2-3.6; p  less then  0.001] on habitual SSBs intake was also substantiated. CONCLUSION Multiple diet, physical activity and sedentary behaviour factors were significantly associated with SSB intake among Malaysian preschoolers. The survey collected PA-related data using the Global PA Questionnaire Version 2 and those on provicial-level characteristics from two surveys in 2014, namely the Intercensal Population and Housing Survey (IPHS) and The Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey (VLSS2014). Multilevel linear analyze was performed with individual and provincial characteristics as independent variables and the metabolic equivalent (MET) score - the indicator of individual PA - as the dependent variable. RESULTS Male and female participants with insufficient PA accounted for 20.2 and 35.7%, respectively. Both individual- and provicial-level SES were inversely associated with the individual PA level. As the provincial-level monthly income increased by 1 million Vietnam Dongs, the total PA score of individuals residing in that province reduced by 1900 METS. A buffering effect was reported between provincial and individual SES, as the provincial average income increased, the differences in PA scores between different SES groups decreased. CONCLUSION Our data suggest that Vietnamese individuals in low SES groups tended to be more physically active than those in high SES groups because their PA was largely related to work.BACKGROUND Dysphagia is common after stroke. Early detection of dysphagia is necessary to identify and manage patients at high risk of aspiration. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the systematic administration of the volume-viscosity swallow test (V-VST) in patients with acute ischaemic stroke. METHODS This was a retrospective observational study that enrolled patients with acute ischaemic stroke in two consecutive time periods pre-V-VST, when the 30-mL water-swallowing test (WST) was systematically administered, and V-VST, when all patients underwent the WST and the V-VST test was systematically administered if the patient failed the WST. RESULTS Two hundred and 42 patients were enrolled. The mean age of the participants was 68.8 ± 10.88 years, 61.2% were male, and the median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score was 3 (IQR, 1-6). A total of 147 patients were enrolled during the pre-V-VST period and 95 were enrolled during the V-VST period. There was a significant difference in the occurrence of SAP (21.8% vs. 10.5%, p = 0.024) and the rate of nasogastric tube feeding (25.9% vs. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/dmb.html 14.7%, p = 0.040) between the two groups, and no differences were found in the length of hospital stay (p = 0.277) or the total cost of hospitalization (p = 0.846). Cost savings were estimated by comparing cost of tests actually performed after enforcement of guidelines with the cost of counterfactual number of tests that would have been performed without guidelines. RESULTS Guideline-based restrictions on HT testing were associated with a 86-98% decline in the number of tests performed (p  less then  0.05). Contrary to previous softer, educational approaches to restricting HT testing, number of Protein C and Factor V Leiden/Prothrombin G20210A tests ordered also declined post-guideline implementation (p  less then  0.05). Annual cost savings associated with reductions in tests performed were estimated to be $205,154 for NL from a societal perspective. We estimated that if this model was expanded across Canada, annual cost savings could be as large as $14.2 million from a societal perspective. We measured 24-h personal exposures to PM2.5 and kitchen area black carbon (**) concentrations, using MicroPEMs and microAeths, respectively. Particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and inorganic element concentrations were quantified via post analyses of a subset of MicroPEM sample filters. Household surveys regarding participant demographics, cookstove usage, household fuel, cooking behaviors, and lifestyles were collected. The results reaffirm that burning firewood and yak dung, mainly for cooking, leads to high PM2.5 and ** exposures. The geometric mean concentration (95% confidence interval, CI) was 74.3 (53.6, 103) μg/m3 for PM2.5 and the arithmetic mean ± standard deviation (SD) concentration was 4.90 ± 5.01 μg/m3 for ** and 292 ± 364 ng/m3 for 15 identified PAHs, respectively. The arithmetic mean ± SD of mass concentrations of 24 detected elements ranged from 0.76 ± 0.91 ng/m3 (Co) to 1.31 ± 1.35 μg/m3 (Si). Our statistical analyses further illustrated that the high concentrations of PM2.5, **, and most PAHs and metals, are significantly associated with nomadic village, poorer stove/chimney conditions and yak dung burning. Hence, we report the electrochemical removal of indanthrene blue by using a boron-doped diamond anode, focusing on the toxicity of the treated solutions. Different operational conditions were studied, such as current density (5, 10, and 20 mA cm-2) and electrolyte composition (Na2SO4, Na2CO3, and NaNO3). Besides, the pH was monitored throughout the experiment to consider its direct influence on the ecotoxicity effects. The highest electrochemical oxidation efficiency, measured as color removal, was seen in the 180 min condition of electrolysis in 0.033 M Na2SO4, applying 20 mA cm-2, resulting in a color removal of nearly 91% and 40.51 kWh m-3 of energy consumption. The toxicity towards Lactuca sativa depends solely on pH variations being indifferent to color removal. While the inhibition concentration (IC50) for Raphidocelis subcapitata increases 20% after treatment (in optimized conditions), suggesting that the byproducts are more toxic for this specific organism. Our data highlight the importance of analyzing the toxicity towards various organisms to understand the toxic effect of the treatment applied. Copper (Cu) is not only an essential metallic element for human and organisms, but also a toxic and pernicious element when its environmental content exceeds a certain threshold. However, to date, little is known about the isotopic compositions and sources of Cu in the suspended particulate matter (SPM) of fluvial ecosystems. To identify the potential sources of Cu in SPM in Zhujiang River (an important river in southwestern China with about 30 million people in the entire basin), we reported the Cu contents of SPM and the Cu isotopic compositions (expressed in δ65Cu) at 22 sites. The relative contribution rates of potential sources were also calculated based on the mixing model. The results indicate that the Cu contents varied from 14 mg kg-1 to 96 mg kg-1 with a relatively low enrichment factor (EF) value (mean value is 1.6). The amount of Cu transferred as suspended loads ranged from 5% to 98% (mean value 60%) in the sampling period. The EF and δ65Cu suggest a ternary mixture of fluvial SPM with the δ65Cu value fluctuating from 0.04‰ to 0.50‰ (mean value 0.17‰). Based on isotope ratios and mass balance equation, we calculate that the rock weathering contributes 76.4% particulate Cu in Zhujiang River, and the contributions of urban sludge and smelting tailings are 15.4% and 8.2%, respectively. These findings regarding to the application of Cu isotope have significant implications for tracing the Cu sources, which significantly supports the control and management of suspended particulate copper pollution in large rivers.

The highest electrochemical oxidation efficiency, measured as color removal, was seen in the 180 min condition of electrolysis in 0.033 M Na2SO4, applying 20 mA cm-2, resulting in a color removal of nearly 91% and 40.51 kWh m-3 of energy consumption. The toxicity towards Lactuca sativa depends solely on pH variations being indifferent to color removal. While the inhibition concentration (IC50) for Raphidocelis subcapitata increases 20% after treatment (in optimized conditions), suggesting that the byproducts are more toxic for this specific organism. Our data highlight the importance of analyzing the toxicity towards various organisms to understand the toxic effect of the treatment applied. Copper (Cu) is not only an essential metallic element for human and organisms, but also a toxic and pernicious element when its environmental content exceeds a certain threshold. However, to date, little is known about the isotopic compositions and sources of Cu in the suspended particulate matter (SPM) of fluvial ecosystems. To identify the potential sources of Cu in SPM in Zhujiang River (an important river in southwestern China with about 30 million people in the entire basin), we reported the Cu contents of SPM and the Cu isotopic compositions (expressed in δ65Cu) at 22 sites. The relative contribution rates of potential sources were also calculated based on the mixing model. The results indicate that the Cu contents varied from 14 mg kg-1 to 96 mg kg-1 with a relatively low enrichment factor (EF) value (mean value is 1.6). The amount of Cu transferred as suspended loads ranged from 5% to 98% (mean value 60%) in the sampling period. The EF and δ65Cu suggest a ternary mixture of fluvial SPM with the δ65Cu value fluctuating from 0.04‰ to 0.50‰ (mean value 0.17‰). Based on isotope ratios and mass balance equation, we calculate that the rock weathering contributes 76.4% particulate Cu in Zhujiang River, and the contributions of urban sludge and smelting tailings are 15.4% and 8.2%, respectively. These findings regarding to the application of Cu isotope have significant implications for tracing the Cu sources, which significantly supports the control and management of suspended particulate copper pollution in large rivers.

  • Importance The association and interaction of host characteristics with prognosis in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are poorly understood. There is increasing evidence that host characteristics are associated with treatment outcomes of many cancers. Objectives To examine the host factors associated with prognosis in patients with OSCC and their interactions to create a numerical index that quantifies the prognostic capacity of these host characteristics. Design, setting, and participants This retrospective cohort study included patients with OSCC treated surgically at a tertiary care center from January 1, 1998, to December 31, 2015. Here, we have described a dynamical binding's process of an anticancer drug, the dasatinib, to the c-Src kinase in full atomistic details for the first time, without applying any biasing force or potential which may lead the drug to artificial interactions with the protein. We have attained multiple independent binding events which occurred in the nano-second timescales, surprisingly as little as ∼30 ns. Both the protonated and deprotonated forms of the dasatinib reached the crystallographic binding mode without having any major intermediate state during induction. Results Most hematologic parameters showed significant age- and/or sex-specific changes during growth and development. Of the 27 hematologic parameters, all except four (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, basophil percentage, low hemoglobin density, immature cell percentage) required age partitioning, and eight required sex partitioning. Conclusions This study establishes a robust pediatric hematology reference database that will assist in more accurate test result interpretation. Methods A retrospective medical chart review of patients treated in MWLP and a control group of patients with obesity receiving regular care in the general primary care setting. From the practice database (1 April 2015-31 March 2016), 209 patients (≥18 years old) who participated in the MWLP were identified; 265 controls were selected from the remaining population based on the presence of the obesity-related diagnoses.

Of 143 inpatient stays, 89% received APAP, 38% NSAID, and 29% benzodiazepines; 29 patients received no opioids inpatient but were still prescribed 25-200 OMEs on discharge. Conclusions There is need for a multidisciplinary approach to pain management with the use of enhanced recovery after surgery protocols as potential means to standardize perioperative regimens and mitigate opioid overprescription.Background Federal law mandates complete insurance coverage for breast reconstruction and considers it an "essential" aspect of breast cancer treatment, on par with mastectomy and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, a significant proportion of women do not undergo reconstruction. The objective of this study is to assess care gaps in breast cancer treatment and reconstruction in rural populations. Methods All hospitals in Upstate New York were surveyed regarding what components of breast cancer care they provide, including breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and plastic surgery. Survey results were correlated with population data to determine how many women might be impacted by geographic barriers to care. Results Of 135 hospitals, only 56% offered any component of breast cancer treatment, while 30% offer breast surgery, 44% offer radiation oncology, and 42% offer plastic surgery. Microsurgical breast reconstruction was offered at just 14% of hospitals. Only 11% of hospitals were complete cancer care centers, which offer all the essential elements of breast cancer care (breast surgery, reconstructive surgery, medical oncology, and radiation) and all reconstructive options (including microvascular). Based on population data, 21% of Upstate New Yorkers live in counties without access to any form of breast reconstruction, 44% live in counties without microsurgical reconstruction, 30% live in counties without a hospital that staffs all members of the cancer care team, and 47% live in counties without a complete cancer care center. Conclusions Geographic barriers play a large role in the lack of access to breast cancer care and reconstruction.Objective To assess the potential of using ΔT2 as an indirect index of cartilage strain by quantifying the relationship between local in situ compressive strain and ΔT2 through the full depth of human tibial and femoral articular cartilage. Local ΔT2 in strained cartilage varied with depth. Linear modeling revealed significant correlations between in situ strain and ΔT2 for both tibial and femoral cartilage; correlation coefficients were higher for tibial cartilage. Herein, a heterogeneous Fenton-like oxidation driven by a novel BF-PMCs bismuth ferrites reported firstly for efficient degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in which the possible degradation pathways are thoroughly analyzed through identifying some of key intermediates (i.e., C8H11N3O4S, C4H4NO2, etc.) using liquid chromatography-mass spectrum (LC-MS), monitoring organic acids (i.e., acetic acid, pyruvic acid) and inorganic anions (i.e., sulfate, nitrate) using ion chromatography (IC), and detecting radical species (i.e., HO) using both chemical quenchers and fluorescence technique, simultaneously. The optimal operations in BF-PMCs/H2O2 system for SMX degradation are recommended at the conditions of initial pH ~4.5, 1.5 mg L-1 [SMX], 70 mM [H2O2], and BF-PMCs loading of 0.2 g L-1. The degradation rates (kinetic value of kapp) for SMX, azoxystrobin, bisphenol A, and 2,4-dichlorophenol are 9.5 × 10-3, 13.6 × 10-3, 7.3 × 10-3, and 5.9 × 10-3 min-1, respectively. Meanwhile, the degradation rates in BF-PMCs/H2O2 system for SMX degradation are slightly slower in the presence of inorganic anions (e.g., Cl-, NO3-) and NOM (e.g., humic acid).
