  • Accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) soluble forms in the cerebral parenchyma is the mainstream concept underlying memory deficit in the early phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD). PKMζ plays a critical role in the maintenance of long-term memory. Yet, the role of this brain-specific enzyme has not been addressed in AD. We examined the impact of hippocampal PKMζ overexpression on AD-related memory impairment in rats. Oligomeric form of Aβ (oAβ) or vehicle was bilaterally microinjected into the dorsal hippocampus of male Wistar rats under stereotaxic surgery. One week later, 2 μl of lentiviral vector (108 T.U. / ml.) encoding PKMζ genome was microinjected into the dorsal hippocampus. Seven days later, behavioral performance was assessed using shuttle box and Morris water maze. The expression levels of GluA1, GluA2 and KCC2 were determined in the hippocampus using western blot technique. Our data showed that oAβ impairs both passive avoidance and spatial learning and memory. However, overexpression of PKMζ in the dorsal hippocampus restored the behavioral performance. This improving effect was blocked by microinjection of ZIP, a PKMζ inhibitor, into the hippocampus. oAβ or PKMζ did not significantly change GluA1 level in the hippocampus. Furthermore, PKMζ failed to restore elevated KCC2 level induced by oAβ. However, oAβ decreased GluA2 level, and overexpression of PKMζ restored its expression toward the control level. In conclusion, hippocampal overexpression of PKMζ restored memory dysfunction induced by amyloidopathy in part, through preserving hippocampal GluA2 containing AMPA receptors. In this study, we show the significance of ROS in PARP1 mediated responses of D. discoideum under different stress conditions. Interestingly, our results suggest differential kinetics of PARP1 activation and implications of ROS in starvation and cadmium induced cell death events. Increased accumulation of Poly (ADP-ribose), a product of PARP activation, could be detected within minutes post cadmium stress, whereas PARP1 activation was only a later event with starvation. Starvation induced PARP1 activation was supported by the depletion of ATP and NAD+, while PARP inhibitor confers protective effect during starvation. During starvation, cell death is induced in two phases, a primary ROS driven PARP1 independent early necrotic phase followed by a PARP1 driven ROS dependent paraptotic phase; both of which comprise mitochondrial changes. Cadmium (Cd) exerted a dose-dependent effect on cell death; a low dose of 0.2 mM Cd led to paraptosis and a higher dose of 0.5 mM Cd led to necrosis in D. discoideum cells within 24 h. Interestingly, glutathione (GSH) exposure could rescue cells from Cd stress mediated cell death. Besides unicellular cell death, the developmental arrest induced by cadmium and oxidative stress could be rescued by reinstating the redox equilibrium using GSH. In conclusion, we underscore the significant link between PARP1 and ROS in regulating the process of cell death and development in D. discoideum.B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a disease caused by gradual accumulation of functionally incompetent lymphocytes. The majority of CLL cases are accompanied by chemoresistance. Early B cell factor 1 (EBF1) is a crucial contributor to B-cell lymphopoiesis. This study is to explore the effect of EBF1 on CLL cell progression and its involvement in regulating the signal transducers and activators of transcription 5 (STAT5) pathway. We conducted a correlation analysis between EBF1 and the clinical characteristics of CLL patients. Subsequently, EBF1 was overexpressed by transfection with EBF1 overexpression plasmid and the STAT5 pathway was also blocked by treatment with SH-4-54 in isolated CD20+ B lymphocytes to investigate their roles in the regulation of cellular functions. STAT5, Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) expression and their phosphorylation levels were determined by quantitative PCR and Western blot analyses. The in vivo effects of EBF1 on tumor growth were evaluated using a xenotransplant model. Downregulation of EBF1 was observed in CD20+ B lymphocytes of CLL patients. EBF1 overexpression disrupted the activation of STAT5 pathway, as evidenced by decreased expression and phosphorylation levels of STAT5 and JAK2. Furthermore, overexpression of EBF1 repressed viability and cell cycle entry, and increased apoptosis of CD20+ B lymphocytes by inhibiting the STAT5 pathway. Finally, EBF1 exerted antitumor effects in nude ****. Overall, our study elucidates the inhibitory role of EBF1 in CLL through inactivation of the STAT5 pathway, which may provide new targets for CLL treatment.

More significantly, it demonstrates the flexibility of DNA architectures and their multitasking ability in biosensing.The hexagonal close packed surface of gold shows a 22 × 3 "herringbone" surface reconstruction which makes it unique among the (111) surfaces of all metals. This long-range energetically favored dislocation pattern appears in response to the strong tensile stress that would be present on the unreconstructed surface. Adsorption of molecular and atomic species can be used to tune this surface stress and lift the herringbone reconstruction. Here we show that herringbone reconstruction can be controllably lifted in ultrahigh vacuum at cryogenic temperatures by precise hot electron injection in the presence of hydrogen molecules. We use the sharp tip of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) for charge carrier injection and characterization of the resulting chain nanostructures. By comparing STM images, rotational spectromicroscopy and ab initio calculations, we show that formation of gold atomic chains is associated with release of gold atoms from the surface, lifting of the reconstruction, dissociation of H2 molecules, and formation of surface hydrides. Gold hydrides grow in a zipper-like mechanism forming chains along the [11Ì…0] directions of the Au(111) surface and can be manipulated by further electron injection. Finally, we demonstrate that Au(111) terraces can be transformed with nearly perfect terrace selectivity over distances of hundreds of nanometers.Comprehensive profiling of lipid species in a biological sample, or lipidomics, is a valuable approach to elucidating disease pathogenesis and identifying biomarkers. Currently, a typical lipidomics experiment may track hundreds to thousands of individual lipid species. However, drawing biological conclusions requires multiple steps of data processing to enrich significantly altered features and confident identification of these features. Existing solutions for these data analysis challenges (i.e., multivariate statistics and lipid identification) involve performing various steps using different software applications, which imposes a practical limitation and potentially a negative impact on reproducibility. Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-ion mobility-mass spectrometry (HILIC-IM-MS) has shown advantages in separating lipids through orthogonal dimensions. However, there are still gaps in the coverage of lipid classes in the literature. To enable reproducible and efficient analysis of HILIC-IM-MS lipidomics data, we developed an open-source Python package, LiPydomics, which enables performing statistical and multivariate analyses ("stats" module), generating informative plots ("plotting" module), identifying lipid species at different confidence levels ("identification" module), and carrying out all functions using a user-friendly text-based interface ("interactive" module). To support lipid identification, we assembled a comprehensive experimental database of m/z and CCS of 45 lipid classes with 23 classes containing HILIC retention times. Prediction models for CCS and HILIC retention time for 22 and 23 lipid classes, respectively, were trained using the large experimental data set, which enabled the generation of a large predicted lipid database with 145,388 entries. Finally, we demonstrated the utility of the Python package using Staphylococcus aureus strains that are resistant to various antimicrobials.The plasmonic nanolaser is a class of lasers with the physical dimensions free from the optical diffraction limit. As revealed by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) characterization, the high barrier growth temperature allowed to achieve a clear interface between GaInN quantum wells and GaN quantum barriers on the c-, r-, and m-planes of the nanowires. Moreover, the correlation between the In incorporation and structure features in MQS was quantitatively assessed based on the STEM energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping and line-scan profiles of In and Al fractions.

This technique offers the possibility to perform incisions with a precision superior to that of any surgeon in the world, based on the connection of preoperative and intraoperative diagnostics. This results in new possibilities to revolutionize the surgical procedure of cataract surgery and to generate new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of cataracts. The combination of keratotomy for correcting astigmatism, intraocular lenses supported by capsulotomy and individually adapted fragmentation patterns is already a component of a personalized cataract surgery.BACKGROUND Osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint is a common and painful affliction that can be diagnosed using conventional X‑ray imaging as well as arthroscopy and if necessary treated; however, the X‑ray classification often does not sufficiently demonstrate the cartilage damage found in arthroscopy. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of conventional X‑ray imaging compared to arthroscopy for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint. MATERIAL AND METHODS The preoperative conventional X‑ray images of 23 patients were presented to 10 experienced hand surgeons who were blinded to the arthroscopy results. Their ratings were compared to the results found with arthroscopy. RESULTS Of the patients 11 were found to have grade 4 cartilage lesions according to the Outerbridge classification, 8 grade 3 lesions, 4 grade 2 lesions and no grade 1 lesions. Overall, 43% (95% confidence interval, CI 37-49%) of the cartilage lesions were diagnosed correctly using conventional X‑rays. For grade 4 lesions 73% (95% CI 65-81%) of the surgeons made the correct diagnosis, in the case of grade 3 lesions 38% (95% CI 27-49%) and in grade 2 lesions 13% (95% CI 3-23%). CONCLUSION This study presents an arthroscopy classification system that is specific for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint and provides an additional method of assessment if the X‑ray grading of osteoarthritis according to Eaton and Littler is too unspecific. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of conventional X‑ray imaging compared to arthroscopy for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint. MATERIAL AND METHODS The preoperative conventional X‑ray images of 23 patients were presented to 10 experienced hand surgeons who were blinded to the arthroscopy results. Their ratings were compared to the results found with arthroscopy. RESULTS Of the patients 11 were found to have grade 4 cartilage lesions according to the Outerbridge classification, 8 grade 3 lesions, 4 grade 2 lesions and no grade 1 lesions. Overall, 43% (95% confidence interval, CI 37-49%) of the cartilage lesions were diagnosed correctly using conventional X‑rays. For grade 4 lesions 73% (95% CI 65-81%) of the surgeons made the correct diagnosis, in the case of grade 3 lesions 38% (95% CI 27-49%) and in grade 2 lesions 13% (95% CI 3-23%). CONCLUSION This study presents an arthroscopy classification system that is specific for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint and provides an additional method of assessment if the X‑ray grading of osteoarthritis according to Eaton and Littler is too unspecific.     The MINDMAP project implemented a multinational data infrastructure to investigate the direct and interactive effects of urban environments and individual determinants of mental well-being and cognitive function in ageing populations. Using a rigorous process involving multiple teams of experts, longitudinal data from six cohort studies were harmonised to serve MINDMAP objectives. This article documents the retrospective data harmonisation process achieved based on the Maelstrom Research approach and provides a descriptive analysis of the harmonised data generated.

    A list of core variables (the DataSchema) to be generated across cohorts was first defined, and the potential for cohort-specific data sets to generate the DataSchema variables was assessed. Where relevant, algorithms were developed to process cohort-specific data into DataSchema format, and information to be provided to data users was documented. Procedures and harmonisation decisions were thoroughly documented.

Here, we experimentally tested the robustness of the orb weaver's predation strategy when webs are severely distorted and silk tensions are drastically altered throughout the web, a common occurrence in the wild. We assessed prey identification efficiency by comparing the spider's initial reaction times towards a fruit fly trapped in the web, we measured location efficiency by comparing times and number of tugging bouts performed, and we determined capture efficiency by comparing capture times. It emerged that spiders are capable of identifying, locating and capturing prey in distorted webs, albeit taking somewhat longer to do so.A 23-year-old Caucasian woman, presented with recurrent fevers, elevated liver function tests and pancytopenia. She met the diagnostic criteria for haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). She was initially treated with broad spectrum antibiotics which were eventually discontinued once the diagnosis was established. Over a period of 2-3 weeks her fever, transaminitis, ferritin and LDH improved spontaneously. She continued to improve clinically and was subsequently discharged. HLH is an aggressive, life-threatening hyper-inflammatory syndrome which, if not promptly recognised and treated, can be fatal. Treatment involves etoposide-based chemotherapy and possible stem-cell transplantation. This patient showed signs of improvement spontaneously and a decision was made to not treat her. This was a rare case of EBV-associated HLH which resolved spontaneously without any intervention. This young patient was not subjected to unnecessary chemotherapy. So far only few cases of spontaneous resolution of EBV-associated HLH have been reported.
    Peptide-based vaccination is a rational option for immunotherapy of prostate cancer. In this first-in-man phase I/II study, we assessed the safety, tolerability and immunological impact of a synthetic long peptide vaccine targeting Ras homolog gene family member C (RhoC) in patients with prostate cancer. RhoC is a small GTPase overexpressed in advanced solid cancers, metastases and cancer stem cells.

    Twenty-two patients who had previously undergone radical prostatectomy received subcutaneous injections of 0.1 mg of a single RhoC-derived 20mer peptide emulsified in Montanide ISA-51 every 2 weeks for the first six times, then five times every 4 weeks for a total treatment time of 30 weeks. The drug safety and vaccine-specific immune responses were assessed during treatment and thereafter within a 13-month follow-up period. Serum level of prostate-specific antigen was measured up to 26 months postvaccination.

    Most patients (18 of 21 evaluable) developed a strong CD4 T cell response against the vaccine, which lasted at least 10 months following the last vaccination. Three promiscuouslypresented HLA-class II epitopes were identified. Vaccine-specific CD4 T cells were polyfunctional and effector memory T cells that stably expressed PD-1 (CD279) and OX-40 (CD134), but not LAG-3 (CD223). Information on 1,525 persons with SCD (mean age = 73.8 [SD = 8.1] years) was obtained from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center. Clinical progression occurred from SCD to either amnestic mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's dementia over an average of 4.7 (SD = 2.9) years. Stepwise Cox regression was used. Compared to obesity (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.59) in the univariate unadjusted model, obesity (HR = 0.64), current smoking (HR = 2.02), and depressive symptoms (HR = 1.35) were significant after adjusting for covariates in the univariate model. In the multivariate adjusted model, obesity (HR = 0.64), current smoking (HR = 2.04), and depressive symptoms (HR = 1.36) remained significant predictors. Interventions should be designed to minimize transition by managing smoking and depressive symptoms.     Children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP) have gait impairments resulting from decreased selective motor control, an inability to move the leg joints independently of one another, relying on excessive flexion or extension coupling across the 3 joints. Infants with white matter injury are at high risk of CP and have decreased selective motor control as early as 1month corrected age. An in-home kicking-activated mobile task was developed to motivate more selective hip-knee control of infants at high risk of CP. The purposes of this study were to determine the feasibility of the in-home mobile task and to determine whether infants at high risk of CP and infants with typical development (TD) learn the association between their leg movements and mobile activation.

    Ten infants at high risk of CP based on neuroimaging and 11 infants with TD participated in this cohort study at 3.5 to 4.5months corrected age. Each infant participated in the in-home kicking-activated mobile task for 8 to 10min/d, 5 d/wk, for 6weekto motivate certain types of age-appropriate leg movements of infants who are at high risk of CP, the task could help improve walking outcomes, which eventually could contribute to improving children's ability to participate in daily life. This study showed that infants at high risk of CP did learn the infant kicking-activated mobile task but at a **** reduced amount compared with infants who are developing typically; so, this is a first step in determining whether the task has potential to motivate more age-appropriate leg movements in infants at high risk of cerebral palsy.
    Obesity reduces voluntary recruitment of quadriceps during single-joint exercises, but the effects of obesity on quadriceps femoris muscle activation during dynamic daily living tasks, such as sit-to-stand (STS), are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine how obesity affects quadriceps muscle recruitment during STS.

    In this cross-sectional study, 10 women who were lean and 17 women who were obese completed STS from a chair with arms crossed over the chest. Three-dimensional motion analysis was used to define 3 distinct phases (I-III) of the STS cycle. The electromyographic (EMG) activity of the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, and semitendinosus was measured.

    STS duration was greater (3.02 [SD=0.75] seconds vs 1.67 [SD=0.28] seconds) and peak trunk flexion angle was lower (28.9 degrees [SD=10.4 degrees] vs 35.8 degrees [SD=10.1 degrees]) in the women who were obese than in the women who were lean. Compared to obesity (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.59) in the univariate unadjusted model, obesity (HR = 0.64), current smoking (HR = 2.02), and depressive symptoms (HR = 1.35) were significant after adjusting for covariates in the univariate model. In the multivariate adjusted model, obesity (HR = 0.64), current smoking (HR = 2.04), and depressive symptoms (HR = 1.36) remained significant predictors. An in-home kicking-activated mobile task was developed to motivate more selective hip-knee control of infants at high risk of CP. The purposes of this study were to determine the feasibility of the in-home mobile task and to determine whether infants at high risk of CP and infants with typical development (TD) learn the association between their leg movements and mobile activation. Ten infants at high risk of CP based on neuroimaging and 11 infants with TD participated in this cohort study at 3.5 to 4.5months corrected age. Forty-two patients with pathology-proven brain tumors who underwent conventional pretreatment MRIs were retrospectively included (HGGs, n = 16; BMs, n = 26). Texture analysis of the peritumoral zone was performed on the T2-weighted sequence using dedicated software. The most discriminative texture features were selected using the Fisher and the probability of classification error and average correlation coefficients. The ability of texture parameters to distinguish between HGGs and BMs was evaluated through univariate, receiver operating, and multivariate analyses. The first percentile and wavelet energy texture parameters were independent predictors of HGGs (75-87.5% sensitivity, 53.85-88.46% specificity). The prediction model consisting of all parameters that showed statistically significant results at the univariate analysis was able to identify HGGs with 100% sensitivity and 66.7% specificity. The right ventricle was more vulnerable to catecholamine overdose than the left. Rats injected with NE had a lower survival rate than those injected with E within 6 h. Catecholamine overdose induces acute lung injuries and ventricular cardiomyopathy, and E+NE is associated with a more severe outcome. The similarities of the results between the NE and E+NE groups may indicate a predominant role of NE in determining the overall cardiopulmonary damage. We build on current understandings of OE by exploring history and systemic relationships as important aspects of OE. We conducted interviews with 20 school leaders from 16 schools that went through a district-wide transition of students with disabilities into general education schools and asked these leaders about their preparation and service provision during this transition. We utilized a grounded theory approach to analyze the data, and two domains of OE emerged historical and systemic, each with multiple dimensions. The historical domain refers to schools' functioning before the transition, and the systemic domain reflects interactions between schools and the School District Office for Students with Disabilities during the transition. We provide a nuanced understanding of these domains of organizational empowerment and their interaction, as well as implications for empowerment theory and practice.
    Hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is a common systemic skin toxicity syndrome caused by chemotherapy agents. However, there is no uniform clinical treatment for HFS. It is reported that pyridoxine (vitamin B6) can be used to prevent HFS, but the evidence is insufficient.

    To determine whether pyridoxine can be used to prevent HFS caused by chemotherapy agents.

    Literature database searches were performed on PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The efficacy of pyridoxine was evaluated by the incidence of HFS (any grade) or severe HFS (grade≥2).

    Fourteen studies involving 1570 patients were included in this meta-analysis. There were no significant differences between the pyridoxine and control groups in the prevention of HFS (OR=0.84, 95% CI 0.67-1.05, P=0.09) or in the incidence of grade ≥2 HFS (OR=0.87, 95% CI 0.70-1.09, P=0.39, respectively). The subgroup analysis of pyridoxine dose also showed no significant difference between the two groups in preventing HFS grade ≥2 (OR=0.79, 95% CI 0.62-0.99, P=0.30).

Among, numerous therapeutic targets, the endocannabinoid system, particularly activation of cannabinoid type-2 receptors (CB2R) emerged as an important one to suppress the hyperimmune-inflammatory responses. We build on current understandings of OE by exploring history and systemic relationships as important aspects of OE. We conducted interviews with 20 school leaders from 16 schools that went through a district-wide transition of students with disabilities into general education schools and asked these leaders about their preparation and service provision during this transition. We utilized a grounded theory approach to analyze the data, and two domains of OE emerged historical and systemic, each with multiple dimensions. The historical domain refers to schools' functioning before the transition, and the systemic domain reflects interactions between schools and the School District Office for Students with Disabilities during the transition. We provide a nuanced understanding of these domains of organizational empowerment and their interaction, as well as implications for empowerment theory and practice. It is reported that pyridoxine (vitamin B6) can be used to prevent HFS, but the evidence is insufficient. To determine whether pyridoxine can be used to prevent HFS caused by chemotherapy agents. Literature database searches were performed on PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The efficacy of pyridoxine was evaluated by the incidence of HFS (any grade) or severe HFS (grade≥2). Fourteen studies involving 1570 patients were included in this meta-analysis. There were no significant differences between the pyridoxine and control groups in the prevention of HFS (OR=0.84, 95% CI 0.67-1.05, P=0.09) or in the incidence of grade ≥2 HFS (OR=0.87, 95% CI 0.70-1.09, P=0.39, respectively). Among, numerous therapeutic targets, the endocannabinoid system, particularly activation of cannabinoid type-2 receptors (CB2R) emerged as an important one to suppress the hyperimmune-inflammatory responses. Recently, potent antiinflammatory, antiviral and immunomodulatory properties of CB2R selective ligands of endogenous, plant, and synthetic origin were showed mediating CB2R selective functional agonism. Within this domain, studies have also focused on the misinformation control efforts from government organizations and other major agencies. A prodigious gap in research exists in studying the monitoring of misinformation on social media platforms in times of disasters and other crisis events. Such studies would offer organizations and agencies new tools and ideologies to monitor misinformation on platforms such as Twitter, and make informed decisions on whether or not to use their resources in order to debunk. In this work, we fill the research gap by developing a machine learning framework to predict the veracity of tweets that are spread during crisis events.

None had previous history of glaucoma. Visual acuity, reliable and reproducible standard automated perimetry (24-2 and 30-2) and manual perimetry examinations were obtained from all patients. Each patient answered the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire, and the results were correlated with visual field indices.

    The mean visual acuity was 0.35±0.31 logMAR (0.84-0.10). All visual field's had good reliability indices. The standard automated perimetry mean deviation values were -7.25±3.63 decibels (dB) and -7.75±3.23 (24-2 anliable and reproductive visual field measurements. We found a consistent reduction in visual field extension and a global sensitivity reduction in these patients. Despite visual field changes, our patients had good quality of life scores. Overall, these results could be useful to improve early glaucoma diagnosis and to follow-up BI-Kpro patients.

Moreover, the model performs in the form of self-updating by jointly refining the current states of all participants, rather than feature concatenations. In the process of states refinement, a social-aware information selection module consisting of an element-wise motion gate and a pedestrian-wise attention is designed as the guidance of the message passing process. Considering the pedestrian walking space as a graph, spatial-edge LSTMs are exploited to enhance the model capacity, where two kinds of LSTMs interact with each other so that states of them are interactively refined. Experimental results on four widely used pedestrian trajectory datasets, ETH, UCY, PWPD, and NYGC demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Although professional drivers with obstructive sleep apnea in Europe must be assessed for their ability to maintain adequate wakefulness on a yearly basis, Oxford Sleep Resistance Test results are usually normal in this population. In this retrospective observational study, we searched for predictive factors of abnormal Oxford Sleep Resistance Test sleep latency.

    We included 1,071 Oxford Sleep Resistance Test results of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (95% men, aged 21-74 years). Mean sleep latency < 40 minutes was considered abnormal.

    Sleep latency was abnormal in 12.0% of tests. Participants at risk for abnormal test results self-reported as being sleepy, depressed, on sick leave, unemployed, or retired or considered themselves unable to work. In a logistic regression model, the self-reported view on work capacity was the most important predictor of abnormal Oxford Sleep Resistance Test sleep latency (odds ratio, 3.5). Using retrospective clinic records, we examined positive depression screening rates among adolescent sleep clinic patients relative to other subspecialty clinic patients. We also examined relationships between sleep diagnoses and positive depression screening rate in adolescent sleep clinic patients.

    Data were analyzed from patients ages 12-18 (n = 12,520) who were screened for depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2). Those who screened positive were administered the PHQ-9. Logistic regression was used to examine effects of age, sex, race, ethnicity, and clinic on likelihood of a positive depression screen. Within sleep clinic patients (n = 308), demographic factors, sleep disorder diagnosis, and body mass index percentile were examined using logistic and linear regression.

Searches of databases (Medline, PubMed, The Cochrane Library, EBSCO) using terms OA treatment effectiveness and positive and/or negative outcome predictors. Craniofacial predictors of OAs and obstructive sleep apnea biomechanical factors of anatomical traits associated with OA effectiveness were included. Databases searched radiographic cephalometric imaging for morphology/phenotypes and apnea-hypopnea index responses. Articles were excluded if title or abstract was not relevant or a case report. Current knowledge is heterogeneous and shows high variability. Identification of subgroups of patients with obstructive sleep apnea responding to OAs is needed. Depression is prevalent among patients with sleep disorders, and studies show associations between suicidal ideation and insufficient sleep. Using retrospective clinic records, we examined positive depression screening rates among adolescent sleep clinic patients relative to other subspecialty clinic patients. We also examined relationships between sleep diagnoses and positive depression screening rate in adolescent sleep clinic patients. Data were analyzed from patients ages 12-18 (n = 12,520) who were screened for depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2). Those who screened positive were administered the PHQ-9. Logistic regression was used to examine effects of age, sex, race, ethnicity, and clinic on likelihood of a positive depression screen. Within sleep clinic patients (n = 308), demographic factors, sleep disorder diagnosis, and body mass index percentile were examined using logistic and linear regression. Among all patients screened, older age and female sex predicted positive depression screens.
