The three-factor model was tested to obtain measurement model validity and construct validity for attitude and behaviour domains. The results of this study gave a statistically significant value (p less then 0.001), with χ2 (df) values of 39 (7) and 28 (11) for attitude and behaviour domains, respectively. Conclusions The KAB oral health questionnaire used in this study has a valid measurement model and reliable constructs. It was found to be an ideal tool to measure the KAB towards oral health among adults in India.
    In 2014, a recommended one-dose of inactivated hepatitis A vaccine was included in the Brazilian National Immunization Program targeting children 12-24 months. This decision addressed the low to intermediate endemicity status of hepatitis A across Brazil and the high rate of infection in children and adolescents between 5 and 19 years old. The aim of the study was to conduct a time-series analysis on hepatitis A incidence across age groups and to assess the hepatitis A distribution throughout Brazilian geographic regions.

    An interrupted time-series analysis was performed to assess hepatitis A incidence rates before (2010-2013) and after (2015-2018) hepatitis A vaccine program implementation. The time-series analysis was stratified by age groups while a secondary analysis examined geographic distribution of hepatitis A cases.

    Overall incidence of hepatitis A decreased from 3.19/100.000 in the pre-vaccine period to 0.87/100.000 (

Animals were sacrificed at postnatal days P4, P11, and P14. Paraffin-embedded kidney tissues were sectioned and analyzed by immunohistochemistry using specific antibodies. Kidney specimens were examined by bright-field, fluorescence, and electron microscopy. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and t-tests. We noticed that yotari kidneys were smaller in size with a reduced diameter of nephron segments and thinner cortex. TEM microphotographs revealed foot process effacement in the glomeruli (G) of yotari ****, whereas aberrations in the structure of proximal convoluted tubules (PCT) and distal convoluted tubules (DCT) were not observed.

  • Introduction Colorectal surgery is a highly specialized field in surgery that deals with the surgical intervention of disease processes of the colon, rectum, and anus. Gaining proficiency in this field requires training both inside and outside of the operating room. Simulation plays a key role in training surgeons in colorectal surgery. The goal of this study is to review the currently available simulators for training in the field of colorectal surgery. Methods A review of the literature was conducted to identify simulators that are both physical such as benchtop, live animal, and cadaver, as wells as virtual reality (VR) simulators. Any reported validity evidence for these simulators were also presented. Results There are several benchtop physical models made of silicone for training in basic colorectal tasks, such as hand-sewn and stapled anastomosis. To improve realism, explanted animal and cadaveric specimens were also used for training. To improve repeatability, objective assessment, both commercial and VR simulators also exist for training in both open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery and emerging areas such as endoscopic submucosal dissection. Conclusion Simulation-based training in colorectal surgery is here to stay and is going to play a significant role in training, credentialing, and quality improvements.Purpose To evaluate the effect of topical instillation of pegaptanib sodium upon inflammatory angiogenesis induced in the rabbit cornea by alkaline cauterization. Methods Inflammatory angiogenesis was induced by alkaline (sodium hydroxide) cauterization in the corneas of 29 male New Zealand rabbits. The animals were divided into 4 groups a control group treated with 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium eye drops, a group treated with 1.0% prednisolone acetate eye drops, a group treated with 0.5% pegaptanib sodium diluted in 15 mL 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium, and a group treated with 1.0% pegaptanib sodium diluted in 15 mL 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium. After cauterization, eye drops were administered every 12 hours for 21 days. The animals were evaluated every 3 days after cauterization, and the newly formed vessels were quantified from photographs. The treatment effectiveness was analyzed with 3 parameters of antiangiogenic response neovascularization area (NA), total vascular length (TVL), and number of blood vessels (BVN). Results Average NA, TVL, and BVN values were significantly higher in both pegaptanib groups than in the prednisolone group. Material and Methods We performed a comprehensive search for peer- and nonpeer- reviewed literature published between 1905 and 2020. Results Face mask wearing in hospital settings to prevent disease transmission from health care workers to their patients originates with the first use of the mask in surgery in 1897 by German surgeon Johann von Mikulicz. During the first half of the 20th century, various scientific investigators focused on determining the most effective type of medical mask. The role of the face mask in the general population as a preventive intervention during public health emergencies is supported by historical reports spanning from the European Bubonic Plague in 1619, to the Great Manchurian Plague of 1910-1911, the influenza pandemic of 1918, and the current coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Although the face mask has helped against airborne disease transmission, its benefits during pandemics have been filtered through the prism of political leanings and geopolitical interests. Conclusions Our review suggests that while face mask alone cannot stop pandemics, in conjunction with other nonpharmacologic interventions it can be useful in mitigating them. When cooperation rather than division becomes the norm in the global response to pandemics, the face mask can then unite rather than divide us.Introduction Insufficient milk supply is the most common reason for premature breastfeeding cessation. Materials and Methods Medline, CINAHL, ProQuest Central, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched using the keywords "insufficient glandular tissue" or "mammary hypoplasia" or "breast hypoplasia" or "mammary gland hypoplasia" or "droopy breasts" or "snoopy deformity" or "tubular breast*" or "tuberous breast*" AND breastfeeding or "breast feeding" or breast-feeding or lactation. After initially screening 20 records, including reference lists, 9 full texts were assessed for eligibility; 2 were excluded as no breastfeeding outcomes were reported, leaving 7 studies (N = 42 women). Results The studies in this review drew on results from the oldest included study and plastic surgery literature to define breast hypoplasia. Most women in this review (40/42) ceased exclusive breastfeeding before 1 month postpartum. One case study reported 24-hour milk production, which was 52 mL at 26 weeks postpartum. Conclusion The relationship between breast hypoplasia and breastfeeding outcomes is underresearched. The co-occurring medical conditions (e.g., polycystic ovary syndrome) of some women provide avenues for future research into the possible pathogenesis of breast hypoplasia resulting in insufficient milk supply. Research is needed to evaluate the reliability of measuring and classifying markers of breast hypoplasia, and prospective studies can help determine the role of breast hypoplasia in milk production. LP rarely occurs in the larynx, where it presents as leukoplakia. Additionally, due to its responsiveness to corticosteroid drugs, differential diagnosis from other causes of laryngeal leukoplakia is needed (e.g., dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma [SCC]). A 71 years old male smoker presented with progressive hoarseness and cough without fever. Vocal folds' motility was preserved. At fiberoptic laryngoscopy, he presented with bilateral cordal erythema and leukoplakia of the right true vocal fold. A sub-epithelial CO2 laser cordectomy was performed. Histological findings were consistent with mucosal LP. After surgical excision, the patient experienced symptomatic relief without medical treatment. A relapsing lesion became clinically evident six months later.     We aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of melatonin in an experimental AR model.

    Thirty-two Wistar rats were randomised into four groups (n=8 each). The experimental AR model was established in the saline (SF), ethanol, and melatonin groups via intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections and intranasal application of ovalbumin. The SF, ethanol, and melatonin groups received daily i.p. saline, 2% ethanol dissolved in saline, and 10mg/kg melatonin dissolved in 2% ethanol and saline. The control group received the same amount of i.p. and intranasal saline. Total nasal symptom scores were recorded in all rats on days 1 (baseline), 15, 20, 25, and 30. Serum ovalbumin-specific IgE, IL-13, and melatonin levels were measured on days 1 (baseline), 15, and 30. The nasal mucosa of all rats was scored histopathologically.

    The total nasal symptom scores and serum ovalbumin-specific IgE values of the SF, ethanol, and melatonin groups were significantly higher on day 15 than those of the control group. On day 30, the scores and serum ovalbumin-specific IgE values of the melatonin group were similar to those of the control, whereas the SF and ethanol groups had statistically higher scores. The histological scores of the SF and ethanol groups were significantly higher than those of the control and melatonin groups, but no significant difference was found between the melatonin and control groups.

    Fistula following hypospadias repair remains a bane for the hypospadiologist resulting in the evolution of various techniques. Despite all these, the incidence of postoperative fistula varies between 10 to 30% and it increases with the severity of the hypospadias. Hence, a study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of tunica vaginalis flap in preventing fistula formation following severe hypospadias repair.

    An observational study was carried out in a tertiary center between 2008 and 2017. The study included children with severe hypospadias (proximal penile, penoscrotal, scrotal, and perineal). In all the patients, a tunica-vaginalis flap was used to buttress the urethroplasty. All the patients were followed up for at least a year after the completion of treatment.

    A total of 210 patients were included in the study. Bracka's 2-stage repair was performed in 180 patients who had either penoscrotal hypospadias or a meatus even more proximal. The rest 30 patients with proximal penile hypospadias underwent a single-stage Snodgrass repair. Four (2%) patients developed a fistula, all following 2-stage repairs, and half of them required surgical repair. Two (1%) patients had a partial breakdown of repair and underwent a residual repair after 6 months.

LP rarely occurs in the larynx, where it presents as leukoplakia. Additionally, due to its responsiveness to corticosteroid drugs, differential diagnosis from other causes of laryngeal leukoplakia is needed (e.g., dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma [SCC]). A 71 years old male smoker presented with progressive hoarseness and cough without fever. Vocal folds' motility was preserved. At fiberoptic laryngoscopy, he presented with bilateral cordal erythema and leukoplakia of the right true vocal fold. A sub-epithelial CO2 laser cordectomy was performed. Histological findings were consistent with mucosal LP. After surgical excision, the patient experienced symptomatic relief without medical treatment. A relapsing lesion became clinically evident six months later.   • The Bath Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Body Perception Disturbance Scale ("B-CRPS-BPDS") measures alterations in body perception. We assessed its internal consistency, known group validity, construct validity, and associations with demographic and clinical characteristics. We also evaluated changes in, and baseline predictors of B-CRPS-BPDS scores at follow-up. We included people with CRPS (N = 114) and pain-free controls (N = 69). People with CRPS obtained higher scores than pain-free controls on all B-CRPS-BPDS items, except the item on attention. Because this item also had an insufficient corrected item-total correlation, we propose a revised B-CRPS-BPDS (r-B-CRPS-BPDS) excluding this item. The internal consistency of the r-B-CRPS-BPDS was good. The r-B-CRPS-BPDS showed a large positive relationship with "motor neglect-like symptoms", indicating good construct validity. The r-B-CRPS-BPDS showed positive relationships with pain intensity, fear of movement, depression, and upper limb disability. There were no independent relationships with handedness, affected side, affected limb, disease duration, CRPS severity score, tension, anger, fatigue, confusion, and vigour. Finally, r-B-CRPS-BPDS scores did not consistently change over time. Our results demonstrate the utility of the r-B-CRPS-BPDS for measuring body perception disturbances in CRPS. PERSPECTIVE This article evaluates the validity of the Bath Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Body Perception Disturbance Scale ("B-CRPS-BPDS") in CRPS, and assesses relationships with demographic and clinical variables.     An online, anonymous cross-sectional survey (on Qualtrics) translated into 14 languages was distributed to eye care practitioners across the globe. The survey included six questions around the management of DED, in relation to severity and subtype.

    The survey was completed by 1139 eyecare professionals (37% ophthalmologists and 58% optometrists) from 51 countries. Management varied significantly by continent and country (p<0.01). The most commonly recommended management approaches, internationally, included general advice (87%), low (85%) and high (80%) viscosity-enhancing unpreserved lubricants and lid wipes/scrubs (81%).     The corneal limbus maintains the homeostasis, immune and angiogenic privilege of cornea. This study aimed to depict the landscape of human limbal tissues by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

    Single cells of human limbus collected from donor corneas were subjected to 10x scRNA-seq, followed by clustering cell types through the t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) and unbiased computational informatic analysis. Immunofluorescent staining was performed using human corneas to validate the analysis results.

    47,627 cells acquired from six human limbal tissues were collected and subjected to scRNA-seq. 14 distinct clusters were identified and 8 cell types were annotated with representative markers. In-depth dissection revealed three limbal epithelial cell subtypes and refined the X-Y-Z hypothesis of corneal epithelial maintenance. We further unveiled two cell states with higher stemness (TP63
    and CCL20
    cells), and two other differentiated cell states (GPHA2
    and KRT6B 
     cells) in homeostatic limbal stem/progenitor cells (LSPCs) that differ in transcriptional profiles. Cell-cell communication analysis revealed the central role of LSPCs and their bidirectional regulation with various niche cells. Moreover, comparative analysis between limbus and skin deciphered the pivotal contribution of limbal immune cells, vascular and lymphatic endothelial cells to corneal immune and angiogenic privilege.

Rapid antigen detection tests (RADTs) offer diagnosis of group A streptococcus at the point of care but have limited sensitivity. Rapid nucleic acid tests (RNATs) are now available; a systematic review of their accuracy is lacking.

Herein, we show that natural nanocrystalline cellulose materials possess special properties to enhance ice nucleation and facilitate needle-like ice crystal growth. We reveal the molecular level mechanism that the efficient exposure of cellulose hydroxyl groups on (-110) surface leads to faster nucleation of water. We further design chitosan-decorated cellulose nanocrystals to accomplish molecular cryoablation in CD 44 high-expression cells; the cell viability shows more than ∼10 times decrease compared to cryoablation alone and does not show evident systematic toxicity. We further show a liquid-like coating can delay capillary bridge pinch-off and reduce residue volume on SLR surfaces by more than 80% compared to those with conventional perfluoroalkylsilane coatings.

  • Carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) is a naturally occurring endogenous peptide widely distributed in excitable tissues such as the brain. This dipeptide has well-known antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aggregation activities, and it may be useful for treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this disease, peripheral infiltrating macrophages play a substantial role in the clearance of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides from the brain. Correspondingly, in patients suffering from AD, defects in the capacity of peripheral macrophages to engulf Aβ have been reported. The effects of carnosine on macrophages and oxidative stress associated with AD are consequently of substantial interest for drug discovery in this field. In the present work, a model of stress induced by Aβ1-42 oligomers was investigated using a combination of methods including trypan blue exclusion, microchip electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and high-throughpututic potential of this dipeptide in the context of AD pathology.Most of the studies analyzing the effect of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) on children's health do not contain information on early stages or do not use accurate methods. We investigated the association between PA and body composition using objective methods, perinatal data, lifestyle behaviors, and World Health Organization (WHO) physical activity (PA) recommendations. The CALINA study is a longitudinal observational cohort study of children born in Aragon (Spain) in 2009. A total of 308 7-year-old children (52.3% boys) were assessed. We used dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and accelerometry. Rapid weight gain until 12 months and lifestyle behaviors were considered as covariates both in the ANCOVA and linear regression models. A higher percentage of boys met the WHO PA recommendations compared to girls (69.6% vs. 40.9%, respectively; p less then 0.001). There was a negative association between MVPA and subtotal fat and abdominal fat in both girls and boys. After adjusting for perinatal and lifestyle variables, we found that subtotal body fat, abdominal fat, and fat mass index (FMI) were significantly lower in those classified as active. MVPA was associated with body fat both in boys and girls. More research is needed to identify the cutoffs points of MVPA that generate benefit to boys and girls in all body composition components.This study investigated the frequency of carbapenem and colistin resistance in ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae (ESBLK) isolates recovered from chickens and their environment, contact farm workers and hospitalized patients in Egypt. Further, the phenotypic and genotypic relationships between the community and hospital-acquired K. pneumoniae isolates in the same geographical area were investigated. From 272 total samples, 37 (13.6%) K. pneumoniae isolates were identified, of which 20 (54.1%) were hypervirulent. All isolates (100%) were multidrug-resistant (MDR) with multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) indices ranging from 0.19 to 0.94. Colistin-resistant isolates (18.9%) displayed colistin ****values >2 μg/mL, all harbored the mcr-1 gene. All isolates from patients (13/90, 14.4%), workers (5/22, 22.7%), chickens (9/100, 9%) and the environment (10/60, 16.7%) harbored a single or multiple β-lactamase genes, blaSHV, blaTEM, blaCTX-M1 and blaOXA-1, often in combination with carbapenemase genes (blaVIM, blaNDM-1 or blaIMP; 45.9%), the mcr-1 gene (18.9%) or both (13.5%). Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR genotyping revealed 24 distinct ERIC types (ETs) with a discrimination index of 0.961. Six ETs showed clusters of identical isolates from chicken and human sources.     This retrospective cohort study included adult hospitalized patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 at Siriraj Hospital during February 2020 to April 2020.

    The prevalence of COVID-19 was 7.5% (107 COVID-19 patients) among 1409 patients who underwent RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 detection at our hospital during the outbreak period. Patients with COVID-19 presented with symptoms in 94.4%. Among the 104 patients who were treated with antiviral medications, 78 (75%) received 2-drug regimen (lopinavir/ritonavir or darunavir/ritonavir plus chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine), and 26 (25%) received a 3-drug regimen with favipiravir added to the 2-drug regimen. Disease progression was observed in 18 patients (16.8%). All patients with COVID-19 were discharged alive.

    Sexual function, a significant contributor to quality of life, is affected by various factors, including overall mental health. COVID-19 is a current pandemic that influences the mental health of various populations, especially pregnant women. Despite the importance of sexual health, the specific nature of its relationship to overall mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic is not clearly defined. Thus, this study investigates the relationship between sexual function and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in Iranian pregnant women.

    This descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out among 437 pregnant women using the sociodemographic and obstetrics characteristics questionnaire, Female Sexual Function Inventory, Stress, Depression, and Anxiety Scales. Random sampling was employed to select pregnant women who had a medical record in Health Centers of Tabriz city, Iran.     One of the leading long-term complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) includes renal dysfunction and urinary tract infections (UTI) which are considered to be prevalent in uncontrolled diabetes. Moreover, physiological factors like age, gender, duration of diabetes, other diabetic complications like neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy and glycosuria are also considered as predisposing factors for increased prevalence of UTI in diabetes which can be symptomatic or asymptomatic.

Utilizing the Stata SE 15.0 software, forest plots and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curves were drawn. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated.

Sexual function, a significant contributor to quality of life, is affected by various factors, including overall mental health. COVID-19 is a current pandemic that influences the mental health of various populations, especially pregnant women. Despite the importance of sexual health, the specific nature of its relationship to overall mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic is not clearly defined. Thus, this study investigates the relationship between sexual function and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in Iranian pregnant women. This descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out among 437 pregnant women using the sociodemographic and obstetrics characteristics questionnaire, Female Sexual Function Inventory, Stress, Depression, and Anxiety Scales. Random sampling was employed to select pregnant women who had a medical record in Health Centers of Tabriz city, Iran. The questionnaires were sent to the participants' cell phones via WhatsApp or text messages, including links of qu and higher gestational age had a significant, positive impact on sexual function and could predict 35.8% of the variance model. Given the age-related decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in healthy individuals, we examined the association of all-cause death or cardiovascular event with the Kidney age - Chronological age Difference (KCD) score, whereby an individual's kidney age is estimated from their estimated GFR (eGFR) and the age-dependent eGFR decline reported for healthy living potential kidney donors. Trypsin inhibitory activity (TIA) was reduced significantly for all substrates except for unsonicated soybean and lentils fermented with L. plantarum and P. acidilactici. When physical processing was done, there was a decrease in TIA for all the substrate. Phytic acid content decreased for physically modified soybean and lentil but not significantly for green pea. Unlike traditional probiotics, pGSMT/MG1363 lacks a history of safe use in food. Administration of microorganism could influence the gut microbial community and consequently confer health benefits or cause disadvantages to the host. To date, little has been done to assess the influence of recombinant strain pGSMT/MG1363 on the stability of gut microbiota.

    Liver, testis and kidney sections of male Sprague-Dawley rats orally administered pGSMT/MG1363 for 6 weeks showed normal structure and no pathological damage. There were no adverse effects on the analyzed serum biochemical parameters between the pGSMT/MG1363 group and the MG1363 group. Principal coordinate analysis showed that, compared with the MG1363 group, the 6-week-old fecal gut microbiota of rats fed with pGSMT/MG1363 was not significantly different (Adonis, P = gut microbiota stability, pGSMT/MG1363 could be considered as safe as MG1363, at least for short-term intake.     The proper growth and development of tea plants requires moderately acidic soils and relatively low calcium levels, and excessive calcium at high pH can damage tea plant roots. To reveal the effects of calcium on the responses of tea plant to three pH levels (3.5, 5.0 and 6.5), a repeated test of two factors was designed.

    Root growth and elemental analysis indicated that excessive calcium improved the growth of tea roots at low pH conditions, whereas it did not harm the growth of tea roots under normal and high pH conditions, especially at pH 6.5. Excessive calcium antagonized the absorption and utilization of magnesium by tea plants. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry results showed that the addition of Ca
    resulted in the primary metabolism in roots being more active at a low pH level. By contrast, it had obvious adverse effects on the accumulation of root metabolites with high calcium treatment at normal or high pH.     Advances in virtual reality technology for surgical simulation methods may improve diagnosis and treatment planning of complex orthognathic surgery cases. The objectives were to assess orthodontic residents' performance and attitudes when treatment planning orthognathic surgery cases using two-dimensional (2D) digital, three-dimensional (3D) digital, and virtual reality (VR) surgical simulations.

    The study had a mixed methods study design involving 20 graduate orthodontic residents. Their previous experiences, confidence, and competence with orthodontic diagnosis and surgical treatment planning were assessed with a baseline survey. Each resident completed 2D, 3D, and VR treatment planning and simulation tasks in a randomized order and recorded their diagnosis, objectives, treatment plan, and special surgical concerns for each case using a treatment planning worksheet. The worksheets were scored and quantitative data were analyzed. Attitudinal responses to the simulation experience were captured with a post-survey and interview.

    Psoriasis represents one of the most common skin diseases in Italy, with a prevalence of 2.9%. It has been defined as a noncommunicable disease, due to its high burden and impact on patients' quality of life.

    The aim of our observational study was to assess the actual knowledge and perception of psoriasis in Italian population by administering an online 10-question survey to a representative sample general population.

    An online 10-question survey was administered to a representative sample general population from September 2019 to December 2019. A representative sample of general population (age ≥ 18 years) was enrolled by promoting the online survey through multiple means of communication such as social sites (Facebook, Instagram) or delivering a questionnaire link in public spaces (outpatient clinic, pharmacy). All results were then collected and analyzed in graphs by the Google form platform.

    151 individuals participated in the survey. Results showed that 7.3% (n=11) of general population were not familiar with the term psoriasis; 4.6% (n=7) thought to psoriasis as an infectious disease and 6% (n=9) thought that psoriasis was contagious. Interestingly, 39.1% (n=59) of participants have never heard about targeted/biologic therapy.

    Our study is limited by the small sample size as well as lack of data regarding sex, age and education level of the study participant.

    There is still lack of knowledge of psoriasis among general population, representing an obstacle for patients' everyday activities and quality of life. Future studies to investigate the details of this impaired knowledge and new psoriasis campaign on large scale should fill this gap are required.

Although a central role of autoimmunity is suggested, the pathogenesis of LS is still not clearly understood and the disease remains difficult to treat. The goals of treatment of LS are to alleviate symptoms and discomfort, prevent anatomical changes and prevent malignant transformation. This guideline has been developed by an Italian group of experts. It summarizes evidence-based and expert- based recommendations. The highest level of evidence favors the use of topical high potency corticosteroids; second and third lines' treatments include topical calcineurin inhibitors and topical retinoids, respectively. Surgical treatment has become the treatment of choice in male genital LS with persistent phimosis not responsive to medical treatment. The aim of this paper is to offer evidencebased and easily applicable recommendations for the management of LS.
    Previous studies have demonstrated that chronic hand eczema (CHE) causes negative effects on psychological status of patients. However, presence of social anxiety and avoidance has not been investigated in CHE patients. In this descriptive and prospective study, we aimed to examine the psychosocial dimensions of CHE in a more detailed manner.

    70 patients with CHE and 70 controls were participated in the study. The quality of life (QoL) was assessed with the World Health Organization QoL Questionnaire-Short Form (WHOQoL-BREF); anxiety and depression were evaluated with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS); and social anxiety and avoidance were evaluated with the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS).

    The physical and environmental subscale scores of the WHOQoL-BREF were significantly lower (P<0.001, P=0.041); whereas HADS-total (P=0.019), HADSanxiety (P=0.014), LSAS-total (P=0.025), LSAS-anxiety (P=0.037) and LSASavoidance (P=0,029) scores were significantly higher in CHE patients compared to controls.

The highest level of evidence favors the use of topical high potency corticosteroids; second and third lines' treatments include topical calcineurin inhibitors and topical retinoids, respectively. Surgical treatment has become the treatment of choice in male genital LS with persistent phimosis not responsive to medical treatment. The aim of this paper is to offer evidencebased and easily applicable recommendations for the management of LS. Previous studies have demonstrated that chronic hand eczema (CHE) causes negative effects on psychological status of patients. However, presence of social anxiety and avoidance has not been investigated in CHE patients. In this descriptive and prospective study, we aimed to examine the psychosocial dimensions of CHE in a more detailed manner. 70 patients with CHE and 70 controls were participated in the study. The quality of life (QoL) was assessed with the World Health Organization QoL Questionnaire-Short Form (WHOQoL-BREF); anxiety and depression were evaluated with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS); and social anxiety and avoidance were evaluated with the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS). The physical and environmental subscale scores of the WHOQoL-BREF were significantly lower (P<0.001, P=0.041); whereas HADS-total (P=0.019), HADSanxiety (P=0.014), LSAS-total (P=0.025), LSAS-anxiety (P=0.037) and LSASavoidance (P=0,029) scores were significantly higher in CHE patients compared to controls.

  • This paper analyzes the experiment presented in 2019 by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration that unveiled the first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of galaxy M87. The intended aim of the paper is to assess whether the EHT Collaboration has made an "inference to the best explanation" (IBE) to conclude that the data effectively confirm the hypothesis that the object at the center of M87 is in fact a supermassive Kerr rotating black hole. I demonstrate that the EHT Collaboration has applied an IBE. It is shown that the hypothesis that at the center of M87 there is a supermassive Kerr rotating black hole was already the best explanation at the time in which the 2017 EHT experiment was conducted. My analysis is intertwined with considerations on realist and empiricist interpretations of IBE, which are used to assess whether the conclusion that the object at the center of M87 is a Kerr rotating black hole implies holding a realist commitment with respect to such object.Adulterations of food and pharmaceutical preparations are the important global problem. On the one hand, fraud practices are becoming more and more sophisticated while on the other, monitoring and uncovering falsifications are insufficient. Herein, a novel COF (TFPB-BD) was first employed as stationary phase for high-efficiency capillary electrochromatographic separation. Benzidine (BD) and 1,3,5-Tris-(4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFPB) were selected as organic linkers and then introduced into the aldehyde group modified capillary for the in situ growth of TFPB-BD onto the capillary inner wall at room temperature. The morphology and formation of TFPB coated capillary column were confirmed by a variety of tools including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). It's interesting that the TFPB globular crystals with nanoscale were uniformly and densely modified on the capillary inner surface. Hence, the prepared column exhibited prominent separation performance for the test analytes including alkylbenzenes, chlorobenzenes and phenolic compounds with high efficiency and high resolution. The maximum column efficiency can reach about 1.8 × 105 plates•m-1. Additionally, the high resolutions of anilines, amino acids and parabens were also achieved on the TFPB modified capillary. The main experimental influencing parameters for the extraction including the eluent solvent, eluent volume, sample loading rate, sample solution pH, salt concentration and sample volume were investigated. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms were investigated to elucidate the possible adsorption mechanism. With the triazine-based porous organic polymer as the SPE adsorbent, trace NDZs were effectively extracted. The good enrichment capability for the NDZs was mainly attributed to the hydrogen binding interactions by the aromatic 1,3,5-trizine rings. After the SPE, the extracted analytes were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatograph with ultraviolet detection.

  • Overall, this work highlights the approach towards estimating the seasonal dynamics of chemical species in KT wetland and its suitability for irrigation purposes.Interspecific competition for substrate and space gives rise to considerable variation in biomass distribution within the microbial community. To study microbial community in depth, we used several research methods as sampling and analytical measurements, and developed a cellular automata (CA) model that would facilitate a description of the microbial growth process based on Anaerobic Digestion Model No. 1 (ADM1) of the International Water Association (IWA). Using the CA model, we aimed to determine whether interspecific competition occurs among acidogens, acetogens and methanogens, and to examine the influence of interspecific competition on the spatial structure of microbial communities. We found that acetogens and methanogens competed for core space, resulting in a multi-layer structure. Butyrate-degrading acetogens increased in number, resulting in inhibition of propionate-degrading acetogens. Hydrogenotrophic methanogens showed stronger competitive advantage than acetotrophic methanogens. The simulation showed that the multi-layer structure of the microbial community was formed by interspecific competition.Shortcomings of individual biochar or microbial technologies often exist in heavy metal removal from wastewater and may be circumvented by coupled use of biochar and microorganisms. In this study, Bacillus subtilis and each of three biochars of different origins (corn stalk, peanut shell, and pine wood) were coupled forming composite systems to treat a cadmium (Cd, 50 mg/L) wastewater formulated with CdCl2 in batch tests. To reduce the corrosion and control the odor in concrete sewers, it is necessary to model the production of sulfide in the concrete sewers with different HRTs. However, previous researches were mostly carried out in simulated Perspex-made sewers, and the obtained theoretical formulas based on the Monod equation were impractical because of the complexity. An actual concrete pipe with domestic sewage was employed in this study to obtain a simple but practical model, which can be applied to quantitively describe the sulfide production according to the HRT of the sewer and the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the sewage. The empirical equation obtained was rs = (0.045 × lnHRT + 0.071) × ([COD] - b)0.6, the coefficient is a logarithmic function of the HRT, and the sulfide production rate and COD have a power relationship. Based on the data of COD and HRT obtained in the realistic sewer, the production of sulfide in the sewer can be predicted for better maintaining sewers through sulfide control.Ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal efficiency in aqueous solutions in the ultrasonic (US), K2S2O8, and US/K2S2O8 systems was investigated. The free radical generation and action ratio were studied based on variations of K2S2O8 concentration, ultrasonic power, pH, and the addition of isopropanol (ISP) or tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) in the US/K2S2O8 system. The results showed that under conditions of 20 mg·L-1 CIP concentration, 20 mmol·L-1 K2S2O8 concentration, an ultrasonic power of 360 W and pH = 7, CIP removal efficiency in the US/K2S2O8 system was 92.20% after 180 min. The reaction in the US/K2S2O8 system was explicitly divided into two stages free radical generation and pollutants degradation. The ultrasonic and chain reaction facilitated enhanced generation of SO4-• and HO•. The presence of K2S2O8 can promote HO• generation and K2S2O8 concentration also exerted a significant effect on SO4-• generation, however, high concentrations were not beneficial to the reaction. Quenching reactions occurred under high concentrations of HO• and SO4-•. During the initial stage of the reaction, HO• played a more prominent role than SO4-•, however, the role of SO4-• gradually increased as the reaction proceeded and eventually surpassed HO•.
    Social communication disorder (SCD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that includes communication difficulties. Literature linking SCD and addictions is scarce, and there are only a few case reports regarding the co-occurrence of addiction and autism disorder spectrum, and only one of them addressed behavioural addictions.

    We report **'s case, who displayed an SCD and sexual addiction (SA). Clinical and neuropsychological evaluations suggested an alteration of social cognition, especially of affective theory of mind. This article also presents the adaptation made of the usual treatment.

    This case report illustrates the importance of social cognition abilities in the development and maintenance of behavioural addictions, and specifically SA. It also highlights the possible comorbidity of these two disorders and the possibility to work on social cognition as an alternate therapy in the treatment of behavioural addictions.
