    We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathologic features and clinical outcomes of 57 patients with WDTC and distant metastases, and evaluated the mutational profiles of

    promoter genes. All patients underwent thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation using the same treatment protocol. Synchronous distant metastases were defined as those detected within 12 months of the primary WDTC diagnosis. Concepts such as 'Ik-Oankar', Hukam (God's will), ego and karma all influence how practising Sikhs respond to situations in everyday life. Understanding the spiritual underpinnings of the Sikh religion is therefore important for clinicians caring for this group of patients. This article will explore the fundamental concepts of the Sikh religion and how these apply to common scenarios encountered within palliative care.
    Health care providers (HCPs) require ongoing support to meet the evolving care needs of children with medical complexity (CMC). Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) is a model for delivering technology-enabled medical education and cultivating a community of practice. In this study, we focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating the first ECHO program dedicated to the care of CMC. Specific objectives were to evaluate the program feasibility (participation and acceptability) and impact on perceived HCP knowledge, self-efficacy, and clinical practice after 6 months.

While the illumination required to activate a PS imparts a certain amount of selectivity to PDT treatments, poor tumor accumulation and cell internalization are still inherent properties of most intravenously administered PSs. As a result, common consequences of PDT include skin photosensitivity. To overcome the mentioned issues, PSs may be tailored to specifically target overexpressed biomarkers of tumors. This active targeting can be achieved by direct conjugation of the PS to a ligand with enhanced affinity for a target overexpressed on cancer cells and/or other cells of the tumor microenvironment. Alternatively, PSs may be incorporated into ligand-targeted nanocarriers, which may also encompass multi-functionalities, including diagnosis and therapy. In this review, we highlight the major advances in active targeting of PSs, either by means of ligand-derived bioconjugates or by exploiting ligand-targeting nanocarriers.The ability of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) inflorescence extract to counteract lipid oxidation was studied in stripped linseed oil. The ethanolic extract was characterized in terms of terpenes (6.00 mg/mL), cannabidiol (4.99% w/w), phenolic compounds (1.80 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/mL), antiradical, and metal ion-chelating activities (50% effective concentration (EC50) of 2.47 mg/mL and 0.39 mg/mL, respectively). The stripped linseed oil, used as control (CO), was mixed with hemp extract (HO) or α-tocopherol (EO) at a ratio of 0.6% (w/w) and stored for 7 days in darkness at 40 °C. Hemp extract reduced the oxidation and lipolysis processes. At the end of the storage, HO showed a significantly higher level of α-linolenic acid (ALA; 26.64 g/100 g), lower peroxide value (PV) (21.19 meq O2/kg oil), and lower hexanal content (7.67 mmol/kg oil) than those found in the control. In contrast, EO showed a marked lipolysis (the free fatty acids increased by 42.57%) and a noticeable oxidation, since the ALA content decreased by 2.10% and a PV of 50 meq O2/kg oil was observed. This study demonstrates that hemp inflorescences can be used as a source of natural antioxidants in vegetable oils and lipid products to retard their oxidation, especially those characterized by a high degree of unsaturation.This paper proposes a novel interconnected observer to get good estimates of attitude and gyro bias from high-noise vector measurements. The observer is derived based on the theory of nonlinear and linear cascade systems, and its error dynamics have the properties of global exponential stability and robustness to bounded noise. These properties ensure the convergence and boundedness of the attitude and gyro bias estimation errors. To obtain higher estimation accuracy, an approach to calculate time-varying gains for the proposed auxiliary observer is designed under the premise of considering noise terms in the rate gyro and vector sensors. This active targeting can be achieved by direct conjugation of the PS to a ligand with enhanced affinity for a target overexpressed on cancer cells and/or other cells of the tumor microenvironment. Alternatively, PSs may be incorporated into ligand-targeted nanocarriers, which may also encompass multi-functionalities, including diagnosis and therapy. In this review, we highlight the major advances in active targeting of PSs, either by means of ligand-derived bioconjugates or by exploiting ligand-targeting nanocarriers.The ability of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) inflorescence extract to counteract lipid oxidation was studied in stripped linseed oil. The ethanolic extract was characterized in terms of terpenes (6.00 mg/mL), cannabidiol (4.99% w/w), phenolic compounds (1.80 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/mL), antiradical, and metal ion-chelating activities (50% effective concentration (EC50) of 2.47 mg/mL and 0.39 mg/mL, respectively). The stripped linseed oil, used as control (CO), was mixed with hemp extract (HO) or α-tocopherol (EO) at a ratio of 0.6% (w/w) and stored for 7 days in darkness at 40 °C. Hemp extract reduced the oxidation and lipolysis processes. At the end of the storage, HO showed a significantly higher level of α-linolenic acid (ALA; 26.64 g/100 g), lower peroxide value (PV) (21.19 meq O2/kg oil), and lower hexanal content (7.67 mmol/kg oil) than those found in the control. In contrast, EO showed a marked lipolysis (the free fatty acids increased by 42.57%) and a noticeable oxidation, since the ALA content decreased by 2.10% and a PV of 50 meq O2/kg oil was observed. Repeat amniocentesis was performed at 21 weeks of gestation. Conventional cytogenetic analysis was applied on cultured amniocytes, parental bloods and cord blood. Simultaneous molecular genetic analysis such as interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) and quantitative fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR) assays were applied on uncultured amniocytes. Interphase FISH was applied on postnatal buccal cells. RESULTS Repeat amniocentesis revealed a karyotype of 47,XX,+17[6]/46,XX[28]. Genetic analyses on uncultured amniocytes showed the results of mosaic trisomy 17 (12/101 cells = 11.9%) in FISH analysis, no genomic imbalance in aCGH analysis and maternal UPD 17 in QF-PCR assays. The parental karyotypes were normal. Prenatal ultrasound findings were unremarkable. The parents decided to continue the pregnancy, and a 1449-g, phenotypically normal female baby was delivered prematurely at 31 weeks of gestation. The cord blood had a karyotype of 46,XX. She had a normal psychomotor development at age 22 months at follow-up. Interphase FISH analysis on buccal cells showed trisomy 17 signals in 1/66 cells (1.5%). The number of primordial and primary follicles were increased and corpus luteum and cystic follicles were decreased in ovarian tissues in VCD + ALA group compared to VCD group. Caspase-3 immunoreactivity in follicular cells was decreased in VCD + ALA group compared to VCD group. eNOS immunoreactivity and eNOS levels were decreased in VCD group and increased in VCD + ALA group while iNOS immunoreactivity and iNOS levels were increased in VCD group, decreased in VCD + ALA group in ovary and uterine tissue. MATERIALS AND METHODS 93 pregnant included (32 SGA, 61 controls). All the US examinations were performed between 20 and 22 weeks of gestation. UV, RPV, and PS measurements were performed by using the same image acquired for abdominal circumference measurement. A fetus with as estimated fetal weight (EFW) below the 10th percentile was diagnosed as SGA and SGA at birth was defined as having a birth weight under the 10th percentile. RESULTS Pregnant women in the SGA group were significantly older (30 ± 4.8 vs. 26.6 ± 5.4 years, p  less then  0.01). The difficulty emanates from multiaxiality and anisotropy of the tissue response along with regional dependency of a complex hierarchic structure interacting with the surrounding environment. We present a new and simple hybrid microstructure-based experimental/modeling strategy allowing adaptation of animal disc model to human one. The trans-species strategy requires solely the basic knowledge of the uniaxial circumferential response of two different animal disc regions to predict the multiaxial response of any human disc region. This work demonstrates for the first time the determining role of the interlamellar matrix connecting the fibers-reinforced lamellae in the disc multiaxial response. Our approach shows encouraging multiaxial predictive capabilities making it a promising tool for human spine long-term prediction.The metabolism of ceramides is deregulated in the brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and is associated with apolipoprotein (APO) APOE4 and amyloid-β pathology. However, how the ceramide metabolism changes over time in AD, in vivo, remains unknown. Distribution and metabolism of [18F]F-HPA-12, a radio-fluorinated version of the ceramide analog N-(3-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethyl-3-phenylpropyl) dodecanamide, was investigated in the brain of AD transgenic mouse models (FAD) on an APOE4 or APOE3 genetic background, by positron emission tomography and by gamma counter. We found that FAD **** displayed a higher uptake of [18F]F-HPA-12 in the brain, independently from the APOE4 or APOE3 genetic background. FAD **** could be distinguished from littermate control animals with a sensitivity of 85.7% and a specificity of 87.5%, by gamma counter measurements. Metabolic analysis of [18F]F-HPA-12 in the brain suggested that the tracer is degraded less efficiently in the FAD ****. Furthermore, the radioactive signal registered in the hippocampus correlated with an increase of Cer d181/202 levels measured in the same brain region by mass spectrometry. We evaluate the model using a realistic heart phantom and data from 12 cardiac patients (47-77 years, 64.5 on average). To demonstrate the benefits of our model, we compared it with an existing respiratory model. Based on our study, the optimal number of gates was determined to be five respiratory and four cardiac gates in the phantom and patient studies. In the phantom study, the diameter of the most active hot spot was reduced by 24% in the dual gated images compared to non-gated images. In the patient study, the thickness of myocardium wall was reduced on average by 21%. In conclusion, the motion model can be used for estimating the optimal number of respiratory and cardiac gates for dual gating.Prolonged high-temperature extreme events in the ocean, marine heatwaves, can have severe and long-lasting impacts on marine ecosystems, fisheries and associated services. This study applies a marine heatwave framework to analyse a global sea surface temperature product and identify the most extreme events, based on their intensity, duration and spatial extent. Many of these events have yet to be described in terms of their physical attributes, generation mechanisms, or ecological impacts. Our synthesis identifies commonalities between marine heatwave characteristics and seasonality, links to the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, triggering processes and impacts on ocean productivity. The most intense events preferentially occur in summer, when climatological oceanic mixed layers are shallow and winds are weak, but at a time preceding climatological maximum sea surface temperatures. Most subtropical extreme marine heatwaves were triggered by persistent atmospheric high-pressure systems and anomalously weak wind speeds, associated with increased insolation, and reduced ocean heat losses.

The difficulty emanates from multiaxiality and anisotropy of the tissue response along with regional dependency of a complex hierarchic structure interacting with the surrounding environment. We present a new and simple hybrid microstructure-based experimental/modeling strategy allowing adaptation of animal disc model to human one. The trans-species strategy requires solely the basic knowledge of the uniaxial circumferential response of two different animal disc regions to predict the multiaxial response of any human disc region. This work demonstrates for the first time the determining role of the interlamellar matrix connecting the fibers-reinforced lamellae in the disc multiaxial response. Our approach shows encouraging multiaxial predictive capabilities making it a promising tool for human spine long-term prediction.The metabolism of ceramides is deregulated in the brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and is associated with apolipoprotein (APO) APOE4 and amyloid-β pathology. However, how the ceramide metabolism changes over time in AD, in vivo, remains unknown. Distribution and metabolism of [18F]F-HPA-12, a radio-fluorinated version of the ceramide analog N-(3-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethyl-3-phenylpropyl) dodecanamide, was investigated in the brain of AD transgenic mouse models (FAD) on an APOE4 or APOE3 genetic background, by positron emission tomography and by gamma counter. We found that FAD mice displayed a higher uptake of [18F]F-HPA-12 in the brain, independently from the APOE4 or APOE3 genetic background. FAD mice could be distinguished from littermate control animals with a sensitivity of 85.7% and a specificity of 87.5%, by gamma counter measurements. Metabolic analysis of [18F]F-HPA-12 in the brain suggested that the tracer is degraded less efficiently in the FAD mice. Furthermore, the radioactive signal registered in the hippocampus correlated with an increase of Cer d181/202 levels measured in the same brain region by mass spectrometry. Our data gives additional proof that ceramide metabolism is different in FAD mice compared to controls. Here, we introduce a respiratory-cardiac motion model to determine the optimal number of respiratory and cardiac gates. We evaluate the model using a realistic heart phantom and data from 12 cardiac patients (47-77 years, 64.5 on average). To demonstrate the benefits of our model, we compared it with an existing respiratory model. Based on our study, the optimal number of gates was determined to be five respiratory and four cardiac gates in the phantom and patient studies. In the phantom study, the diameter of the most active hot spot was reduced by 24% in the dual gated images compared to non-gated images. In the patient study, the thickness of myocardium wall was reduced on average by 21%. In conclusion, the motion model can be used for estimating the optimal number of respiratory and cardiac gates for dual gating.Prolonged high-temperature extreme events in the ocean, marine heatwaves, can have severe and long-lasting impacts on marine ecosystems, fisheries and associated services. This study applies a marine heatwave framework to analyse a global sea surface temperature product and identify the most extreme events, based on their intensity, duration and spatial extent. Many of these events have yet to be described in terms of their physical attributes, generation mechanisms, or ecological impacts. Our synthesis identifies commonalities between marine heatwave characteristics and seasonality, links to the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, triggering processes and impacts on ocean productivity. The most intense events preferentially occur in summer, when climatological oceanic mixed layers are shallow and winds are weak, but at a time preceding climatological maximum sea surface temperatures. Most subtropical extreme marine heatwaves were triggered by persistent atmospheric high-pressure systems and anomalously weak wind speeds, associated with increased insolation, and reduced ocean heat losses.

    We examined medication status regarding gastric acid secretion and antithrombotic drugs, post-ESD bleeding as a perioperative complication, and the timing of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy after ESD and ulcer healing in 156 patients who underwent gastric ESD at our hospital from January 2014 to December 2019. The gastric pH was measured at the time of ESD after administration of 20mg vonoprazan on the night before gastric ESD.

    There were 14 cases of post-ESD bleeding in patients treated with proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs), including oozing during second-look endoscopy compared to only 1 case of bleeding with vonoprazan administration (p<0.05). Vonoprazan was also associated with better post-ESD ulcer healing than PPIs. Gastric pH during ESD after vonoprazan administration on the night before gastric ESD was ≥6.96 in all 11 patients.

    Fibromyalgia (FM) is common with significant impact on patients quality of life. Limited reports on coexistence of FM with asthma.

    To assess the prevalence of FM in asthmatic patients and its impact on asthma severity and control.

    This case-control study included 103 patients with asthma and 102 apparently healthy controls matched in age and sex. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of FM and controls were recorded. FM was diagnosed according to the 2016 revision of American College of Rheumatology criteria. Asthma diagnosis and severity were performed by the pulmonologist according to Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines and asthma control was assessed by Asthma Control Test (ACT) score.

    The mean age of asthmatic patients was 41.1 ± 12.7 years and for controls was 39.8 ± 12 years (p=0.453). Females were more prevalent in asthmatic patients and controls although statistically were not significant (p-value=0.532). Prevalence of FM was significantly more in asthmatic patients compared to controls [18 (17.6%) vs 7 (6.8%), p=0.018] and asthmatic patients had three folds risk of having FM (ranging from 1.2 to 7.4 times. FM increased the risk of severe asthma by 4.91 folds (P<0.005). Also, only FMS and glucocorticoids were significant independent predictor of having poor asthma control. FM was significantly and negatively correlated with low ACT score (β standardized regression coefficient=-0.291, p=0.005).

    Acute right iliac fossa (RIF) pain is amongst the most common presentation to the surgical team. Acute appendicitis is the most common cause of this pain and often warrants surgical intervention. In many cases intervention results in a negative appendicectomy with unnecessary complications as a result. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of pre-operative imaging in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis to reduce the rate of negative appendicectomy and unnecessary operative intervention.

    A retrospective single centre cohort study was undertaken in a district general hospital (DGH) of all laparoscopic appendicectomies over a six-year period. 1344 cases were included and were examined for the use of pre-operative imaging (and type) or none. The sensitivity, specificity, negative and positive predictive value for each type of imaging were analysed for their accuracy in diagnosis appendicitis based on the final histological analysis.

    The negative appendicectomy rate was found to be greatest in those undergoing ultrasonography (48.21%) as their method of pre-operative imaging whilst those who underwent computed tomography (CTAP 20.26%) had a lower rate equivalent to that of clinical diagnosis alone (20.73%).

We discuss similarities between condensin and cohesin complexes to derive a possible mechanistic model, as well as discuss differences that exist between the different condensin isoforms found in higher eukaryotes.The use of neutrons as a scattering probe to investigate biological membranes has steadily grown in the past three decades, shedding light on the structure and behaviour of this ubiquitous and fundamental biological barrier. Meanwhile, the rise of antibiotic resistance has catalysed a renewed interest in understanding the mechanisms underlying the dynamics of antibiotics interaction with the bacterial cell envelope. It is widely recognised that the key reason behind the remarkable success of Gram-negative pathogens in developing antibiotic resistance lies in the effectiveness of their outer membrane (OM) in defending the cell from antibacterial compounds. Critical to its function, the highly asymmetric lipid distribution between the inner and outer bilayer leaflets of the OM, adds an extra level of complexity to the study of this crucial defence barrier. Here we review the opportunities offered by neutron scattering techniques, in particular reflectometry, to provide structural information on the interactions of antimicrobials with in vitro models of the OM. The differential sensitivity of neutrons towards hydrogen and deuterium makes them a unique probe to study the structure and behaviour of asymmetric membranes. Molecular-level understanding of the interactions between antimicrobials and the Gram-negative OM provides valuable insights that can aid drug development and broaden our knowledge of this critically important biological barrier.Acyl-CoAdiacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) catalyzes the final committed step in triacylglycerol biosynthesis in eukaryotes. In microalgae, the copy number of DGAT genes is extraordinarily expanded, yet the functions of many DGATs remain largely unknown. This study revealed that microalgal DGAT can function as a lysophosphatidic acyltransferase (LPAAT) both in vitro and in vivo while losing its original function as DGAT. Among the five DGAT-encoding genes identified and cloned from the green microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, four encoded HpDGATs that showed triacylglycerol synthase activities in yeast functional complementation analyses; the exception was one of the type II DGAT encoding genes, HpDGTT2. The hydrophobic recombinant HpDGTT2 protein was purified in soluble form and was found to function as a LPAAT via enzymatic assay. Introducing this gene into the green microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii led to retarded cellular growth, enlarged cell size, and enhanced triacylglycerol accumulation, identical to the phenotypes of transgenic strains overexpressing CrLPAAT. This study provides a framework for dissecting uncharacterized DGATs, and could pave the way to decrypting the structure-function relationship of this large group of enzymes that are critical to lipid biosynthesis.
    We investigated proximal and distal renal tubular sodium handling, as assessed by fractional excretion of lithium (FELi) and fractional distal reabsorption rate of sodium (FDRNa), in relation to environmental and genetic factors in untreated patients.

    Our study participants were suspected hypertensive patients being off antihypertensive medication for ≥2 weeks and referred for 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. We collected serum and 24-hour urine for measurement of sodium, creatinine and lithium concentration, and calculated FELi and FDRNa. We genotyped 19 SNPs associated with renal sodium handling or blood pressure using the ABI SNapShot method.

    The 1409 participants (664 men, 47.1%) had a mean (±SD) age of 51.0±10.5 years. After adjustment for host factors, both FELi and FDRNa were significantly (P≤0.01) associated with season and humidity, explaining ~1.3% and ~3.5% of the variance, respectively. FELi was highest in autumn and lowest in summer and intermediate in spring and winter (P=0.007). FDRNa was also highest in autumn but lowest in winter and intermediate in spring and summer (P<0.001). Neither FELi nor FDRNa was associated with outdoor temperature or atmospheric pressure (P≥0.13). After adjustment for host and environmental factors and Bonferroni multiple testing, among the 19 studied genetic variants, only rs12513375 was significantly associated with FELi and FDRNa (P≤0.004) and explained about 1.7% of the variance.

FELi was highest in autumn and lowest in summer and intermediate in spring and winter (P=0.007). FDRNa was also highest in autumn but lowest in winter and intermediate in spring and summer (P<0.001). Neither FELi nor FDRNa was associated with outdoor temperature or atmospheric pressure (P≥0.13).   • The combination of metal-assisted chemical etching (****) with colloidal lithography has emerged as a simple and cost-effective approach to nanostructure silicon. It is especially efficient at synthesizing Si micro- and nanowire arrays using a catalytic metal mesh, which sinks into the silicon substrate during the etching process. The approach provides a precise control over the array geometry, without requiring expensive nanopatterning techniques. Although **** is a high-throughput solution-based approach, achieving large-scale homogeneity can be challenging because of the instability of the metal catalyst when the experimental parameters are not set appropriately. Such instabilities can lead to metal film fracture, significantly damaging the substrate and thus compromising the nanowire array quality. Here, we report on the critical parameters that influence the stability of the metal catalyst layer for achieving large-scale homogeneous **** etchant composition, metal film thickness, adhesion layer thickness, nanowire diameter and pitch, metal film coverage, Si/Au/etchant interface length, and crystalline quality of the colloidal template (grain size and defects). Our results investigate the origin of the catalyst film fracture and reveal that **** experiments should be optimized for each Si wire array geometry by keeping the etch rate below a certain threshold. We show that the Si/Au/etchant interface length also affects the etch rate and should thus be considered when optimizing the **** experimental parameters. Finally, our results demonstrate that colloidal templates with small grain sizes (i.e., less then 100 μm2) can yield significant problems during the pattern transfer because of a high density of defects at the grain boundaries that negatively affects the metal film stability. This paper proposes the embedding-based Silhouette community detection (SCD), an approach for detecting communities, based on clustering of network node embeddings, i.e. real valued representations of nodes derived from their neighborhoods. We investigate the performance of the proposed SCD approach on 234 synthetic networks, as well as on a real-life social network. Even though SCD is not based on any form of modularity optimization, it performs comparably or better than state-of-the-art community detection algorithms, such as the InfoMap and Louvain. Further, we demonstrate that SCD's outputs can be used along with domain ontologies in semantic subgroup discovery, yielding human-understandable explanations of communities detected in a real-life protein interaction network. Being embedding-based, SCD is widely applicable and can be tested out-of-the-box as part of many existing network learning and exploration pipelines.

  • As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads worldwide, epidemiological models have been employed to evaluate possible scenarios and gauge the efficacy of proposed interventions. Considering the complexity of disease transmission dynamics in cities, stochastic epidemic models include uncertainty in their treatment of the problem, allowing the estimation of the probability of an outbreak, the distribution of epidemic magnitudes, and their expected duration. In this sense, we propose a kinetic Monte Carlo epidemic model that focuses on demography and on age-structured mobility data to simulate the evolution of the COVID-19 outbreak in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia, under several scenarios of mobility restriction. We show that the distribution of epidemic outcomes can be divided into short-lived mild outbreaks and longer severe ones. We demonstrate that quarantines have the effect of reducing the probability of a severe outbreak taking place but are unable to mitigate the magnitude of these outbreaks once they happen. Finally, we present the probability of a particular trajectory in the epidemic progression resulting in a massive outbreak as a function of the cumulative number of cases at the end of each quarantine period, allowing for the estimation of the risk associated with relaxing mobility restrictions at a given time.We investigate a simple forced harmonic oscillator with a natural frequency varying with time. We analyze the statistics of solutions and propose a method to estimate parameter values from the oscillator's time series. We use experimental data of active oscillations in a biophysical system to demonstrate how our method applies to real observations and can be generalized for more complex models.The key parameter that characterizes the transmissibility of a disease is the reproduction number R. If it exceeds 1, the number of incident cases will inevitably grow over time, and a large epidemic is possible. To prevent the expansion of an epidemic, R must be reduced to a level below 1. To estimate the reproduction number, the probability distribution function of the generation interval of an infectious disease is required to be available; however, this distribution is often unknown. In this paper, given the incomplete information for the generation interval, we propose a maximum entropy method to estimate the reproduction number. Based on this method, given the mean value and variance of the generation interval, we first determine its probability distribution function and in turn estimate the real-time values of the reproduction number of COVID-19 in China and the United States. By applying these estimated reproduction numbers into the susceptible-infectious-removed epidemic model, we simulate the evolutionary tracks of the epidemics in China and the United States, both of which are in accordance with that of the real incident cases.We investigate the phase transition of the dodecahedron model on the square lattice. The model is a discrete analog of the classical Heisenberg model, which has continuous O(3) symmetry. In order to treat the large on-site degree of freedom q=20, we develop a massively parallelized numerical algorithm for the corner transfer matrix renormalization group method, incorporating EigenExa, the high-performance parallelized eigensolver. The scaling analysis with respect to the cutoff dimension reveals that there is a second-order phase transition at T_c^=0.4398(8) with the critical exponents ν=2.88(8) and β=0.21(1). The central charge of the system is estimated as c=1.99(6).The purpose of this work is to derive a small turbulent Péclet-small turbulent **** number approximation for hydroradiative turbulent mixing zones encountered in stellar interiors where the radiative conductivity can overwhelms the turbulent transport. We propose a way to integrate physical models of data into statistical learning theory and address, with both combinatorial and statistical mechanics methods, the computation of the Vapnik-Chervonenkis entropy, which counts the number of different binary classifications compatible with the loss class.

  • In the wake of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the world has woken up to the importance of biosecurity and the need to manage international borders. Yet strong sectorial identities exist within biosecurity that are associated with specific international standards, individual economic interests, specific research communities, and unique stakeholder involvement. Despite considerable research addressing human, animal, plant, and environmental health, the science connections between these sectors remain quite limited. One Biosecurity aims to address these limitations at global, national, and local scales. It is an interdisciplinary approach to biosecurity policy and research that builds on the interconnections between human, animal, plant, and environmental health to effectively prevent and mitigate the impacts of invasive alien species. It provides an integrated perspective to address the many biosecurity risks that transcend the traditional boundaries of health, agriculture, and the environment. Individual invasive alien plant and animal species often have multiple impacts across sectors as hosts of zoonotic parasites, vectors of pathogens, pests of agriculture or forestry, as well as threats to biodiversity and ecosystem function. It is time these risks were addressed in a systematic way. One Biosecurity is essential to address several major sociological and environmental challenges to biosecurity climate change, increasing urbanisation, agricultural intensification, human global mobility, loss of technical capability as well as public resistance to pesticides and vaccines. One Biosecurity will require the bringing together of taxonomists, population biologists, modellers, economists, chemists, engineers, and social scientists to engage in a new agenda that is shaped by politics, legislation, and public perceptions.Na+-K+-ATPase from **** lacking the γ subunit exhibits decreased thermal stability. We systematically reviewed the last 20 years of literature that characterized the use of 3D-printing in biological education, only finding a total of 13 articles that attempted to investigate the benefits for student learning. While the pedagogical value of student-driven creation is strongly supported by educational literature, it was challenging to make broad claims about student learning in relation to using or creating 3D-printed models in the context of biological education. Despite considerable research addressing human, animal, plant, and environmental health, the science connections between these sectors remain quite limited. One Biosecurity aims to address these limitations at global, national, and local scales. It is an interdisciplinary approach to biosecurity policy and research that builds on the interconnections between human, animal, plant, and environmental health to effectively prevent and mitigate the impacts of invasive alien species. It provides an integrated perspective to address the many biosecurity risks that transcend the traditional boundaries of health, agriculture, and the environment.
