  • The neural crest (NC) cells and cranial placodes are two ectoderm-derived innovations in vertebrates that led to the acquisition of a complex head structure required for a predatory lifestyle. They both originate from the neural border (NB), a portion of the ectoderm located between the neural plate (NP), and the lateral non-neural ectoderm. The NC gives rise to a vast array of tissues and cell types such as peripheral neurons and glial cells, melanocytes, secretory cells, and cranial skeletal and connective cells. Together with cells derived from the cranial placodes, which contribute to sensory organs in the head, the NC also forms the cranial sensory ganglia. Multiple in vivo studies in different model systems have uncovered the signaling pathways and genetic factors that govern the positioning, development, and differentiation of these tissues. In this literature review, we give an overview of NC and placode development, focusing on the early gene regulatory network that controls the formation of the NB during early embryonic stages, and later dictates the choice between the NC and placode progenitor fates.Preeclampsia (PE) and gestational diabetes (GD) are complications in advanced pregnancy while miscarriage for early pregnancy. However, the etiological factors are not well understood. Smoking has been associated with these complications as well as the sudden intrauterine deaths, sudden infant death, miscarriages, and still births. However, the immunolocalization of alpha 7 nicotine acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) is not studied. Materials and Methods α7-nAChR subunit expression was evaluated in 10 paraffin-embedded placental tissues after delivery and 10 tissue samples of products of conception during first trimester by immunohistochemistry. Among the placental tissues, two samples were normal placental tissue, four from PE mother, and four from GD mother. The expression of α7-nAChR was compared between the two groups in general and within the subgroups of placenta as well. Protein expression was evaluated using the nuclear labeling index (%) of villi with positive cells stained, positive cells in the decintal tissues and in products of conception. They may be associated with the sudden perinatal deaths and miscarriages or complications of pregnancy.Walking is an everyday activity in our daily life. Because walking affects heart rate variability, in this research, for the first time, we analyzed the coupling among the alterations of the complexity of walking paths and heart rate. We benefited from the fractal theory and sample entropy to evaluate the influence of the complexity of paths on the complexity of heart rate variability (HRV) during walking. We calculated the fractal exponent and sample entropy of the R-R time series for nine participants who walked on four paths with various complexities. The findings showed a strong coupling among the alterations of fractal dimension (an indicator of complexity) of HRV and the walking paths. Besides, the result of the analysis of sample entropy also verified the obtained results from the fractal analysis. In further studies, we can analyze the coupling among the alterations of the complexities of other physiological signals and walking paths.The nematode Haemonchus contortus, a gastrointestinal parasite of ruminants, can severely burden livestock production. Although anthelmintics are the mainstay in the treatment of haemonchosis, their efficacy diminishes due to drug-resistance development in H. contortus. An increased anthelmintics inactivation via biotransformation belongs to a significant drug-resistance mechanism in H. contortus. UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) participate in the metabolic inactivation of anthelmintics and other xenobiotic substrates through their conjugation with activated sugar, which drives the elimination of the xenobiotics due to enhanced solubility. The UGTs family, in terms of the biotransformation of commonly used anthelmintics, has been well described in adults as a target stage. In contrast, the free-living juvenile stages of H. contortus have attracted less attention. The expression of UGTs considerably varies throughout the life cycle of the juvenile nematodes, suggesting their different roles. Furthermore, the constitutive expression in a susceptible strain with two resistant strains shows several resistance-related changes in UGTs expression, and the exposure of juvenile stages of H. contortus to albendazole (ABZ) and ABZ-sulfoxide (ABZSO; in sublethal concentrations) leads to the increased expression of several UGTs. The anthelmintic drug ABZ and its primary metabolite ABZSO biotransformation, tested in the juvenile stages, shows significant differences between susceptible and resistant strain. Moreover, higher amounts of glycosidated metabolites of ABZ are formed in the resistant strain. Our results show similarly, as in adults, the UGTs and glycosidations significant for resistance-related differences in ABZ biotransformation and warrant further investigation in their individual functions.Directed cell migration is essential all along an individual's life, from embryogenesis to tissue repair and cancer metastasis. This study was intended to verify the feasibility of using iron scraps as an effective immobilization material to enhance nitrification activity in domestic wastewater-treatment systems at low temperatures. Iron scraps were tried and compared with one common immobilization material (PVA-SA embedded *****) in terms of low-temperature nitrification performances, anti-shock capacity, dynamics of microbial community, and economic costs. The results showed that compared with control, the average nitrification efficiency of iron scraps and PVA-SA embedded ***** increased separately by 15.7% and 27.6% at low temperatures. Among these groups, the iron scrap-based group demonstrated the best anti-shock capacity and the smallest fluctuation (lower than 10%) with the shortening of HRT (hydraulic retention time) or the increase of inlet ammonium level. Nitrosomonas was found to be the dominant bacterial genera for these two immobilization materials. The increased costs of iron scraps and PVA-SA embedded ***** were about ¥0.03 and ¥0.78 per ton of treated domestic wastewater. Taken together, iron scraps have some significant advantages including low costs, easy availability, and good anti-shock capacity, which make them a promising candidate for enhanced nitrification of domestic wastewater at low temperatures.Metal-free carbonaceous composite membranes have been proven to effectively drive novel in situ catalytic oxidation for the degradation of organic pollutants via persulfates activation. In this study, nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) was employed as a modifier to enhance the catalytic activity of the carbon mats by assembly with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the top of a nylon supporter. The morphology and performance of the NG/rGO/CNTs composite membrane were compared to those obtained without the addition of NG (rGO/CNTs). Owing to the larger nanochannels for water delivery and stronger hydrophobicity on the surface, the NG/rGO/CNTs composite membrane shows a superior low-pressure filtration performance in favor of energy-saving operation. For the in situ catalytic oxidation of the NG/rGO/CNTs composite membrane through the activation of peroxydisufate (PDS), the average removal rate of sulfamethoxazole (SMX), one of frequently detected sulfonamide antibiotics in water, can reach 21.7 mg·m-2·h-1 under continuous filtration mode, which was 17% more rapid than that of the rGO/CNTs, resulting in significant detoxifying of the oxidation intermediates. Owing to the addition of NG into the carbon mats, the reactive nitrogen-doped sites identified by X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), such as pyridinic and graphitic N, played important roles in PDS activation, while both the radical and non-radical pathways were involved in in situ catalytic oxidation. According to the experimental evidence of the effects that solution environment has on the SMX removal and transmembrane pressure, the NG/rGO/CNTs composite membrane shows a relatively high resistance to changes in the solution pH, chloride ion inhibition, and background organics fouling. These results suggest a new approach to the application of activated persulfate oxidation in water treatment, such that improvements to the reaction stability warrant further investigation.To utilize carbon source and decompose the petroleum hydrocarbon substances simultaneously, adding the electrolysis to ozonation (E+-Ozonation) was employed to deal with hazardous activated petroleum waste sludge (P-sludge). It was found that E+-Ozonation could accelerate the ozone utilization and hydroxyl radical (·OH) generation rate.   • In the 18th and 19th century, it was highly individualized and hard to translate into modern terminology. In the 20th century, the redox language co-developed with the chemical terminology and became clearer. More recently, the introduction and inflationary use of poorly defined terms has unfortunately impaired the understanding of redox events in biological systems.To prevent the contamination of the marine environment caused by ship exhaust gas, the demand for LNG (liquefied natural gas) fueled ships is increasing worldwide. A tank to store LNG at cryogenic temperatures is indispensable to such LNG-fueled ships. Since the materials used for LNG fuel propulsion tanks must have excellent mechanical properties such as impact toughness at cryogenic temperatures, the International Maritime Organization limits the IGC Code only to four types. Most of the tank materials for LNG-fueled ships ordered recently are adopting ASTM A553-1 material, but a systematic study to analyze the problem of quality degradation that may occur when welding A553-1 steel is required to secure the safety of cryogenic tanks. In other psychiatric disorders, the relationships with nightmares are poorly known. This review aimed to clarify the relationship between nightmares and both mood and psychotic disorders. We performed a systematic literature search using the PubMed, Cochrane Library and PsycINFO databases until December 2019, to identify studies of patients suffering from either a mood disorder or a psychotic disorder associated with nightmares. From the 1145 articles screened, 24 were retained, including 9 studies with patients with mood disorders, 11 studies with patients with psychotic disorders and 4 studies with either psychotic or mood disorders. Nightmares were more frequent in individuals with mood or psychotic disorders than in healthy controls (more than two-fold). Patients with frequent nightmares had higher suicidality scores and had more frequently a history of suicide attempt. The distress associated with nightmares, rather than the frequency of nightmares, was associated with the severity of the psychiatric disorder. Further studies assessing whether nightmare treatment not only improves patient-sleep perception but also improves underlying psychiatric diseases are needed.     Recently, the importance of light physical activity (LPA) for health has been emphasized, and residential greenness has been positively linked to the level of LPA and a variety of positive health outcomes. However, people spend less time in green environments because of urbanization and modern sedentary leisure activities.

    In this population-based study, we investigated the association between objectively measured residential greenness and accelerometry measured physical activity (PA), with a special interest in LPA and gender differences.

    The study was based on the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (5433 members). We performed a systematic literature search using the PubMed, Cochrane Library and PsycINFO databases until December 2019, to identify studies of patients suffering from either a mood disorder or a psychotic disorder associated with nightmares. From the 1145 articles screened, 24 were retained, including 9 studies with patients with mood disorders, 11 studies with patients with psychotic disorders and 4 studies with either psychotic or mood disorders. Nightmares were more frequent in individuals with mood or psychotic disorders than in healthy controls (more than two-fold). Patients with frequent nightmares had higher suicidality scores and had more frequently a history of suicide attempt. The distress associated with nightmares, rather than the frequency of nightmares, was associated with the severity of the psychiatric disorder. Further studies assessing whether nightmare treatment not only improves patient-sleep perception but also improves underlying psychiatric diseases are needed. Therefore, in this study, we performed methylated DNA immunoprecipitation-sequencing (MeDIP-seq) to reveal the difference in methylation between breast cancer drug-resistant cells and sensitive cells. This study aimed to validate a commercial sleep tracker, Garmin Vivosmart 4 (GV4), against polysomnography (PSG) and to evaluate intra-device reliability (GV4 vs. GV4). Eighteen able-bodied adults (13 females, M = 56.1 ± 12.0 years) with no self-reported sleep disorders were simultaneously sleep monitored by GV4 and PSG for one night while intra-device reliability was monitored in one participant for 23 consecutive nights. Intra-device agreement was considered sufficient (observed agreement = 0.85 ± 0.13, Cohen's kappa = 0.68 ± 0.24). GV4 detected sleep with high accuracy (0.90) and sensitivity (0.98) but low specificity (0.28). Cohen's kappa was calculated for sleep/wake detection (0.33) and sleep stage detection (0.20). GV4 significantly underestimated time awake (p = 0.001) including wake after sleep onset (WASO) (p = 0.001), and overestimated light sleep (p = 0.045) and total sleep time (TST) (p = 0.001) (paired t-test). Sleep onset and sleep end differed insignificantly from PSG values. Our results suggest that GV4 is not able to reliably describe sleep architecture but may allow for detection of changes in sleep onset, sleep end, and TST (ICC ≥ 0.825) in longitudinally followed groups. Thus, this study performed an in vitro and in vivo investigation into the efficacy of a new mucoadhesive thermoresponsive platform for propolis delivery (MTS-PRPe) in a preclinical murine model of VVC treatment caused by C. albicans. The methodologies involved chemical analysis, an assessment of the rheological and mucoadhesive properties of propolis formulations, in vitro and in vivo antifungal evaluations, histological evaluations and electron microscopy of the vaginal mucosa. The results demonstrated the antifungal activity of propolis extract and MTS-PRP against the standard strain and a fluconazole-resistant clinical isolate of C. albicans, in both in vitro and in vivo assays. These results were similar and even better, depending on the propolis concentration, when compared to nystatin. While the factors that drive these events are largely known, how they do so is not. The methyltransferase Bud23 has a role during this transition, but its function, beyond the nonessential methylation of ribosomal RNA, is not characterized. Here, we have carried out a comprehensive genetic screen to understand Bud23 function. We identified 67 unique extragenic bud23Δ-suppressing mutations that mapped to genes encoding the SSU Processome factors DHR1, IMP4, UTP2 (NOP14), BMS1 and the SSU protein RPS28A. These factors form a physical interaction network that links the binding site of Bud23 to the U3 snoRNA and many of the amino acid substitutions weaken protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions.

Variables evaluated included demographics, previous treatments, surgical approach, ancillary surgeries, complications and HRQoL by using a standardized non-validated specific questionnaire.     Non-metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (M0 CRPC) has seen important developments in drugs and diagnostic tools in the last two years. New hormonal agents have demonstrated improvement in metastasis free survival in M0 CRPC patients and have been approved by regulatory agencies in Brazil. Additionally, newer and more sensitive imaging tools are able to detect metastasis earlier than before, which will impact the percentage of patients staged as M0 CRPC. Based on the available international guidelines, a group of Brazilian urology and medical oncology experts developed and completed a survey on the diagnosis and treatment of M0 CRPC in Brazil. These results are reviewed and summarized and associated recommendations are provided.

    A panel of six Brazilian prostate cancer experts determined 64 questions concerning the main areas of interest 1) staging tools, 2) treatments, 3) side effects of systemic treatment/s, and 4) osteoclast-tarphysicians to support the management of M0 CRPC patients. Individual clinical decision making should be supported by available data, however, for Brazil, guidelines for diagnosis and management of M0 CRPC patients have not been developed. This document will serve as a point of reference when confronting this disease stage.
    High intra-renal pressures during flexible ureteroscopy have been associated with adverse renal tissue changes as well as pyelovenous backflow. Our objective was to investigate the effect of various intra-renal pressures on histologic changes and fluid extravasation during simulated ureteroscopy.

    Twenty-four juvenile pig kidneys with intact ureters were cannulated with an Olympus flexible ureteroscope with and without a ureteral access sheath and subjected to India ink-infused saline irrigation for 30 minutes at constant pressures ranging from sphygmomanometer settings of 50mm, 100mm and 200mmHg. Renal tissue samples were collected, processed and stained, and were evaluated by a blinded pathologist for depth of ink penetration into renal parenchyma as a percentage of total parenchymal thickness from urothelium to renal capsule.

    The mean percentage of tissue penetration for kidneys with ink present in the cortical tubules at sphygmomanometer pressure settings of 50, 100, and 200mm Hg without a ureteral access sheath was 33.1, 31.0 and 99.3%, respectively and with ureteral access sheath was 0, 0 and 18.8%, respectively. Overall, kidneys with an access sheath demonstrated a smaller mean tissue penetration among all pressure compared to kidneys without a sheath (6.3% vs. 54.5%, p=0.0354). Of kidneys with sheath placement, 11% demonstrated any ink compared to 56% of kidneys without sheath placement.

    Increased attention has been focused on the survival of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients with bone metastasis. This study proposed to establish and evaluate a nomogram for predicting the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of RCC patients with bone metastasis.

    RCC patients with bone metastasis between 2010 and 2015 were captured from the surveillance, epidemiology and end results (SEER) database. Univariate and multivariate cox regressions were performed to assess the effects of clinical variables on OS and CSS. The nomogram based on the Cox hazards regression model was developed. Concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve were performed to evaluate the accuracy of nomogram models, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis (DCA) were conducted to assess the predict performance.

    A total of 2.471 eligible patients were enrolled in this study. The patients were assigned to primary (n=1.672) and validation (n=799) cohorts randomly. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year OS and CSS nomogram models were constructed based on age at diagnosis, sex, marital status, pathological grade, T-stage, N-stage, brain/liver/lung metastasis, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Fistula size appears as independent determinant for failure. Trans-sphincteric approach could be advantageous over other procedures regarding HRQoL issues. Non-metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (M0 CRPC) has seen important developments in drugs and diagnostic tools in the last two years. New hormonal agents have demonstrated improvement in metastasis free survival in M0 CRPC patients and have been approved by regulatory agencies in Brazil. Additionally, newer and more sensitive imaging tools are able to detect metastasis earlier than before, which will impact the percentage of patients staged as M0 CRPC. Based on the available international guidelines, a group of Brazilian urology and medical oncology experts developed and completed a survey on the diagnosis and treatment of M0 CRPC in Brazil. These results are reviewed and summarized and associated recommendations are provided. To present survey results on management of M0 CRPC in Brazil. A panel of six Brazilian prostate cancer experts determined 64 questions concerning the main areas of interest 1) staging tools, 2) treatments, 3) side effects of systemic treatment/s, and 4) osteoclast-tarphysicians to support the management of M0 CRPC patients. Individual clinical decision making should be supported by available data, however, for Brazil, guidelines for diagnosis and management of M0 CRPC patients have not been developed. This document will serve as a point of reference when confronting this disease stage. High intra-renal pressures during flexible ureteroscopy have been associated with adverse renal tissue changes as well as pyelovenous backflow. Our objective was to investigate the effect of various intra-renal pressures on histologic changes and fluid extravasation during simulated ureteroscopy. Twenty-four juvenile pig kidneys with intact ureters were cannulated with an Olympus flexible ureteroscope with and without a ureteral access sheath and subjected to India ink-infused saline irrigation for 30 minutes at constant pressures ranging from sphygmomanometer settings of 50mm, 100mm and 200mmHg. Renal tissue samples were collected, processed and stained, and were evaluated by a blinded pathologist for depth of ink penetration into renal parenchyma as a percentage of total parenchymal thickness from urothelium to renal capsule. The mean percentage of tissue penetration for kidneys with ink present in the cortical tubules at sphygmomanometer pressure settings of 50, 100, and 200mm Hg without a ureteral access sheath was 33.1, 31.0 and 99.3%, respectively and with ureteral access sheath was 0, 0 and 18.8%, respectively. Overall, kidneys with an access sheath demonstrated a smaller mean tissue penetration among all pressure compared to kidneys without a sheath (6.3% vs. 54.5%, p=0.0354). Of kidneys with sheath placement, 11% demonstrated any ink compared to 56% of kidneys without sheath placement. Univariate and multivariate cox regressions were performed to assess the effects of clinical variables on OS and CSS. The nomogram based on the Cox hazards regression model was developed. Concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve were performed to evaluate the accuracy of nomogram models, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis (DCA) were conducted to assess the predict performance. A total of 2.471 eligible patients were enrolled in this study. The patients were assigned to primary (n=1.672) and validation (n=799) cohorts randomly. Using UK Biobank resource, we investigated the association between circulating IGF-1 concentrations and mortality risk (available death data updated on 07 Sep 2020) among COVID-19 patients who had pre-diagnostic serum IGF-1 measurements at baseline (2006-2010). Unconditional logistic regression was performed to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of mortality. Among 1670 COVID-19 patients, 415 deaths occurred due to COVID-19. Compared to the lowest quartile of IGF-1 concentrations, the highest quartile was associated with a 41% lower risk of mortality (OR = 0.59, 95% CI 0.41-0.86, P-trend = 0.01). In the continuous model, per 1-standard deviation increment in log-transformed IGF-1 was associated with a 15% reduction in the risk (intraclass correlation coefficients corrected OR = 0.85, 95% CI 0.73-0.99). The association was largely consistent in the various stratified and sensitivity analyses. In conclusion, our data suggest that higher IGF-1 concentrations are associated with a lower risk of COVID-19 mortality. We aimed to investigate the role of external factors (i.e., diet and environment) and internal (i.e., biological, genetic and epigenetic) on the short- and long-term outcomes of mothers and children up to at least 12 years. Mothers completed all routine prenatal care during pregnancy and four times of follow-up at 42 days, 3, 6 and 12 years after delivery, respectively. For children, birth information were obtained from routine medical records and the follow-up information were obtained from child health care clinics of NWCH at age 42 days, 6, 12 and 24 months, then by interviewing mothers every two years until 12 years old. A range of data (including biological, demographic, birth outcomes/birth defects and nutritional factors from both maternal and off-spring) were collected by both interviews and laboratory tests. By June 30th 2019, a total of 114,946 mothers and 124,454 live births had been recruited.

    We conducted a case cohort study of autoimmune disease patients with COVID-19 (confirmed by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 PCR) from February 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020, and compared them in a 13 ratio with uninfected patients who were matched based on race, age, sex, and comorbidity index. Patient demographics, clinical course, and outcomes were compared among these patient groups.

    A total of 70 rheumatic disease patients with COVID-19 (mean age, 56.6years; 64% African American) were identified. The 34 (49%) patients who were hospitalized used oral glucocorticoids more frequently than those treated as outpatients (p < 0.01). All 10 patients using anti-TNFα medications were treated as outpatients (p < 0.01). Those hospitalized with COVID-19 more often required ICU admission (17 (50%) vs 27 (26%), p = 0.01) and intubation (10 (29%) vs 6 (6%), p < 0.

Owing to its computational complexity, we estimate the expected total cost using the sample average approximation method. The proposed model is verified and validated using small test instances and subject matter experts. This study aims to assess long-term outcomes of modified-ventral hernia working group (VHWG) grade 3 repairs. Because the relevance of hernia recurrence (HR) as the primary outcome for this patient group is contentious, the need for further hernia surgery (FHS) was also assessed in relation to long-term survival. METHODS A retrospective cohort study with a single prospective follow-up time-point nested in a consecutive series of patients undergoing CAWR in two European national intestinal failure centers. RESULTS In long-term analysis, 266 modified VHWG grade 3 procedures were included. The overall HR rate was 32.3%. The HR rates for non-crosslinked biologic meshes and synthetic meshes when fascial closure was achieved were 20.3% and 30.6%, respectively. The rates of FHS were 7.2% and 16.7%, and occurred only within the first 3 years. Bridged repairs showed poorer results (fascial closure 22.9% hernia recurrence vs bridged 57.1% recurrence). Overall survival was relatively good with 80% en 70% of the patients still alive after 5 and 10 years, respectively. In total 86.6% of the patients remained free of FHS. CONCLUSIONS In this study of contaminated CAWR, non-crosslinked biologic mesh shows better results than synthetic mesh. All 14 were MSM and racial/ethnic minorities, mean age was 36.6 years; 86% were gay-identified. Twenty-four partners tested positive; about half were new partners. Six participants had multiple partners test positive. During in-depth interviews with 10 of these participants, they reported their partners' reactions ranged from tearful and worried among those whose result was unexpected, to resignation among those who suspected a positive result, to nonchalance among partners who participants concluded knew of their HIV infection. After testing, some HIV-positive partners disclosed prior knowledge of their status. No partner reacted violently. Participants typically comforted their partners and encouraged confirmatory testing. Four participants had anal intercourse with partners who tested positive. Participants and partners were able to effectively handle situations in which the partner tested HIV-positive.We examined the prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration and characteristics of HIV-infected male perpetrators. A receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis for SUVmax showed an area under the ROC curve of 0.913. A SUVmax cut-off of 3.0 achieved diagnostic performance for identifying ENE with sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 81.1%, 94.3% and 93.1%, respectively. Inclusion criteria included >18 y/o with WHO Grade II-IV gliomas, and secondary AI. Demographic profile, tumor characteristics, and treatment profile were compared. RESULTS The majority of patients were started on high dose dexamethasone at >8 mg daily, and were on dexamethasone for 4-8 months. The minimum dose needed to prevent symptoms was 0.5 mg to 2 mg daily. The majority received standard radiation doses ranging from 54-60 Gy. Most patients had radiation exposure to the HPA axis within the prescription isodose levels. CONCLUSION Prolonged steroid dependency can result from chronic GC use in patients with glioma.   • Trehalose (and glycogen) is a major storage carbohydrate in many cells, including S. cerevisiae. Typically, trehalose (a disaccharide of glucose) is synthesized and stored through gluconeogenesis. However, trehalose can also be made directly from glucose, if glucose-6-phosphate is channeled away from glycolysis or pentose phosphate pathway. Therefore, analyzing trehalose synthesis, utilization or its accumulation, can be used as a sentinel read-out for either gluconeogenesis or rewired glucose utilization. However, the steady-state measurements alone of trehalose cannot unambiguously distinguish the nature of carbon flux in a system. Here, we first summarize simple steady-state enzymatic assays to measure trehalose (and glycogen), that will have very wide uses. Subsequently, we describe methods of highly sensitive, quantitative LC-MS/MS based to measure trehalose. We include methods of 13C stable-isotope based pulse-labeling experiments (using different carbon sources) with which to measure rates of trehalose synthesis, from different carbon metabolism pathways. This approach can be used to unambiguously determine the extent of carbon flux into trehalose coming from gluconeogenesis, or directly from glucose/glycolysis. These protocols collectively enable comprehensive steady-state as well as carbon flux based measurements of trehalose. This permits a dissection of carbon flux to distinguish between cells in a gluconeogenic state (conventionally leading to trehalose synthesis), or cells with rewired glucose metabolism (also leading to trehalose synthesis). In contrast, lesbian/bisexual and heterosexual women similarly endorsed a gun safety law and reported household guns. However, among women reporting a household gun, lesbian/bisexual women were more likely to be the personal gun owner (aOR = 3.97, 95% CI = 1.43-11.03). Attitudes toward a gun safety law and gun ownership differ by sexual orientation, but patterns vary by gender. We recommend that clinicians inquire about gun ownership and gun storage practices with both heterosexual and sexual minority patients. Results A total of 10 articles (374 shoulders) with a mean follow tendency for both autografts and allografts to have significantly improved FE and clinical scores, (2) a tendency that autografts improved internal rotation and allografts improved abduction, and (3) a weak tendency that autografts improved abduction and allografts improved internal and external rotation. At one-month, three-month, six-month and one-year follow-ups, recurrence of hidradenitis suppurativa was not seen. This study compared the never repair with fibrin glue and perineural micro-suture in rat model. METHODS Ten 3-4 month old male rats, weighting between 250-300 grams were divided into two groups. Left sciatic nerves of the rats were transected and repaired with fibrin glue (TissucolR) in one group (A) and direct peri-neural micro-suture in another group (B). The time of nerve repair was compared between the two groups after 8 weeks. A biopsy from was taken from anastomosis site and the histopathological assessment was undertaken for axonal growth rate after anastomosis and compared between the two groups. RESULTS The time of repair in group A was significantly lower than group B. Axonal growth rate was pretty similar between the two groups, and the difference was not significant. The mean (SD) time for repair of nerves with micro-sutures was 7.1 (1.5) minutes and the mean (SD) for repair of nerves with fibrin glue was 2.5 (0.5) minutes and the difference was significant. The number of calcification such as psammoma bodies was significantly higher in fibrin glue group. CONCLUSION Nerve repair with fibrin glue was shown to be simpler and more time saving. The number of axons after the repair was not different in the two groups. METHODS In the present randomized controlled study, 40 transgender patients were enrolled from February 2016 to December 2018, at St. Fatima Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center. The patients were randomly assigned in two groups including 20 patients with anterolateral thigh flap (ALT)/radial forearm free flap (RFFF) phalloplasty followed with our new coronaplasty technique (group 1) and 20 patients with ALT flap/RFFF phalloplasty followed with Norfolk technique (group 2). RESULTS Almost 85% of the patients underwent the surgery with the new technique were satisfied with the outcome of surgery and considered it acceptable within 6-month follow-up, however, only 70% of the patients in Norfolk technique group reported acceptable results, which was significantly lower than the new technique. Similarly, within 12-month follow-up, 80 and 40% of the patients, respectively in new and Norfolk groups reported acceptable results, which was also significantly higher in the new technique. CONCLUSION This new technique showed remarkably better results relative to the usual technique for glans sculpting in transsexual patients. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted in 1159 gynecomastia surgeries done from March 2013 to February 2019. All these patients were treated by a single surgeon using the superior dynamic flap method in a single center and the results were assessed with patient and surgeon satisfaction scores. The technique involved leaving behind a thin sliver of the gland in order to avoid contour deformity and achieve a smoother shape overall. RESULTS Minor complications were seen in 27 patients and the satisfaction scores were 8.9 and 8.79 in patients and surgeon, respectively. There was no incidence of contour deformity after the procedure. CONCLUSION Superior dynamic flap method was a versatile technique and allowed the surgeon not only to avoid contour deformities, but also to correct asymmetries.

Consequently, there is a need to identify effective interventions for the reduction of high-dose full-agonist opioid medication use. METHODS The current study details a retrospective review of 240 patients with chronic pain and LTOT presenting for treatment at a specialty opioid refill clinic. Patients first were initiated on an outpatient taper or, if taper was not tolerated, transitioned to buprenorphine. This study analyzes potential predictors of successful tapering, successful buprenorphine transition, or failure to complete either intervention and the effects of this clinical approach on pain intensity scores. RESULTS One hundred seven patients (44.6%) successfully tapered their opioid medications under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guideline target dose (90 mg morphine-equianalgesic dosage), 45 patients (18.8%) were successfully transitioned to buprenorphine, and 88 patients (36.6%) dropped out of treatment 11 patients during taper, eight during buprenorphine transition, and 69 before initiating either treatment. Conclusions. Higher initial doses of opioids predicted a higher likelihood of requiring buprenorphine transition, and a co-occurring benzodiazepine or z-drug prescription predicted a greater likelihood of dropout from both interventions. Patterns of change in pain intensity according to treatment were mixed among successfully tapered patients, 52.8% reported greater pain and 23.6% reported reduced pain, whereas 41.8% reported increased pain intensity and 48.8% reported decreased pain after buprenorphine transition. Further research is needed on predictors of treatment retention and dropout, as well as factors that may mitigate elevated pain scores after reduction of opioid dosing. © 2020 American Academy of Pain Medicine. No validated method has been reported to estimate UPA in presence of its degradation products. Therefore it is mandatory to develop method which can accurately measure it in presence of impurity. A simple and sensitive high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method was developed for the estimation of UPA. Pre-coated silica gel 60F254 TLC plates were as stationary phase and ethyl acetatetolueneglacial acetic acid (470.3, v/v/v) was used as mobile phase. Drug was subjected to acid and alkali hydrolysis, oxidation, photo degradation and thermal degradation to study its degradation behavior. UPA eluted with Rf value 0.38 ± 0.02. The method was found to be linear in the concentration range of 400-3,600 ng/band. Limit of detection and limit of quantitation were found to be 72.7786 ng/band and 220.5412 ng/band, respectively. The % recovery of the proposed method was found to be 100.05-100.65%. The proposed method was specific to measure UPA in presence of degradants. The method was found to be accurate, precise, robust and can be useful for routine analysis of formulations containing UPA in presence of its degradation products. © The Author(s) 2020.
