  • BACKGROUND D-allose was promising in the protection of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In addition, D-allose inhibited MKP-1 expression and activated ERK1/2 pathway in skin flap injured by I/R. PD-98059 partially counteracted D-allose effects on I/R injury. CONCLUSIONS D-allose exerted its protective function via inhibiting MKP-1expression and further activated ERK1/2 pathway to suppress the progress of oxidative stress, inflammation and necrosis, contributing to the survival of skin flap injured by I/R. In this study, we searched for dietary polyphenols which possess the activity for enhancing the lysosomal degradation in J774.1, a murine macrophage-like cell line. Screening test utilizing DQ-BSA digestion identified isorhamnetin (3'-O-methylquercetin) as an active compound. Interestingly, structural comparison to inactive flavonols revealed that the chemical structure of the B-ring moiety in isorhamnetin is the primary determinant of its lysosome-enhancing activity. The nose can be utilized for local and systemic delivery including drug delivery to the central nervous system and the immune system. Typical formulation strategies and future developments are reviewed, which nowadays mostly comprise liquid formulations. Although they are straight forward to develop, a number of aspects from choice of solvent, osmolarity, pH, viscosity and more need to be considered, which determine formulation characteristics, not at least nasal deposition. Nasal powders offer higher stability and, along with more sophisticated nasal devices, may play a major role in the future.Aiming to evaluate the prevalence of unilateral/bilateral patellofemoral pain (PFP) among young dancers, and to investigate whether different factors are associated with PFP in young dancers, 132 dancers aged 12-14 years were assessed for PFP. Anthropometric parameters, proprioception ability, dynamic postural balance (DPB), and muscle strength were measured. PFP was found in 64.1% of the dancers. No significant differences in the prevalence of dancers with no, unilateral, or bilateral PFP at different ages were found. Significant age effects were found for anthropometric and developmental measurements, and for intensity of training. PFP effect was found for DPB asymmetry, ankle proprioception, and leg-length %height. A higher hip abductor/adductor ratio was associated with PFP in 14-year-old dancers. Binomial logistic regression showed that increased number of hours per day (h/day) and decreased number of hours per week (h/week), low proprioception scores, greater leg length as %height, and more anterior DPB asymmetry were significant predictors of PFP. In conclusion unilateral/bilateral PFP is common among young dancers. Body morphology, reduced ankle proprioception ability, DPB asymmetry, and increased h/day of practice are associated with PFP. Dance teachers should start monitoring the impact of training and implement injury modification/prevention strategies when their students are at a young age.

  • Honey-processed Astragalus is a dosage form of radix Astragali processed with honey, which is deemed to contain better qi-tonifying effects in traditional Chinese medicine theroy. Our previous study has demonstrated that honey-processed Astragalus exhibited a better effect on reinforcing qi (vital energy) and immune improvement toward spleen qi deficiency compared with radix Astragali. However, the detailed mechanisms related to qi-tonifying effects of honey-processed Astragalus is still unclear. In this study, we evaluated the qi-tonifying effects of honey-processed Astragalus on spleen qi deficiency rats and predicted the mechanisms by aggregating metabonomics, lipidomics and network pharmacology. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ag-1478-tyrphostin-ag-1478.html The results revealed that body weights, symptom scores, the levels of red blood cell, white blood cell, lymphocyte, spleen and thymus indexes, and three cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IFN-γ) in honey-processed Astragalus treated rats were improved in comparison with spleen qi deficiency rats. Moreover, the network pharmacology analysis concluded that the compounds targets of honey-processed Astragalus CDK2, NOS3, MAPK14, PTGS1 and PTGS2 interacted with markers targets PLA2G(s) family and LYPLA1 could be responsible for regulation of glycerophospholipid metabolism to develop qi-tonifying effects. What's more, the above processes were possibly through VEGF signaling and MAPK signaling pathways. Abdominal and pelvic wall hernias are classically defined as a weakness or opening of the muscular wall through which abdominal or pelvic tissues protrude. The aim of this manuscript is to review the imaging findings of abdominal and pelvic wall hernias and their mimics and to discuss pearls and pitfalls for accurately diagnosing and classifying these entities. We previously engineered Enterobacter aerogenesfor glucose and xylose co-utilization and 2,3-butanediol production. Here, strain EMY-22 was further engineered to improve the 2,3-butanediol titer, productivity, and yield by reducing the production of byproducts. To reduce succinate production, the budABC operon and galP gene were overexpressed, which increased 2,3-butanediol production. For further reduction of succinate and 2-ketogluconate production, maeA was selected and overexpressed in EMY-22. The optimally engineered strain produced 2,3-butanediol for a longer time and showed reduced byproduct formation from sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate under flask cultivation conditions. The engineered strain displayed 66.6, 13.4, and 16.8% improvements in titer, yield, productivity of 2,3-butanediol, respectively, compared to its parental strain under fed-batch fermentation conditions. The data demonstrate that the metabolic engineering to reduce byproduct formation is a promising strategy to improve 2,3-butanediol production from lignocellulosic biomass. In this work, four varieties of hemp biomasses (Helena, SS Beta, Tygra, and Elleta Campana) pretreated with liquid hot water (LHW), H2SO4, and NaOH were investigated for ethanol production. Physicochemical and morphological properties of the pretreated hemp biomass were characterized. LHW achieved high glucan (85-98%) and xylan (67-71%) recoveries. H2SO4 induced significant glucan decomposition (5.9-10.6 g/L) and inhibitor formation (4.5-7.4 g/L of HMF and 2.8-4.5 g/L of furfural) in resulting slurries. Both LHW and H2SO4 pretreatments resulted in low glucose and ethanol yields due to recondensed lignin units. NaOH pretreatment achieved high glucose and ethanol yields due to efficient lignin removal (58.6-75.3%). There was no significant variation in ethanol yield among the four hemp varieties pretreated by NaOH. H2SO4 and NaOH pretreated biomasses showed apparent terraced-field structures and microporous protuberances. Changes in crystallinity indexes and intensities of FTIR peaks were consistent with enhanced cellulose and decreased amorphous hemicellulose. Studies have shown that biochar enhances methane formation due to the presence of redox active moieties and its conductive properties. This study investigated the influence of biochar, which was produced from Douglas fir pyrolysis, on biogas production and microbial community during anaerobic digestion (AD) of wastewater sludge. The results showed that biochar significantly enhances methane (CH4) production rate and increases its final yield during AD. The cumulative highest CH4 production obtaining in cultures with DF500 (biochar from Douglas fir at 500 °C) were about 11% and 98% more than the culture without biochar at 37 °C and 25 °C AD temperature, respectively. At 55 °C, the maximum CH4 yield reached 172.3 ml/g COD with DF730, which was about 48.3% more than control culture. The microbial community analysis results showed that biochar could up-regulate the role of micro-ecology especially the methanogens and improve the AD process. Production of bio-based alternative of succinic acid (SA) has been growing due to the awareness on environmental advantages it offers, such as CO2 sequestration. Current study focuses on evaluating the impact of different CO2 partial pressures (0.6, 0.8, 1, 2 bar) on SA production and yield as well as on other parameters like acids profile and CO2 fixation rate in Citrobacter amalonaticus. Increasing partial pressure to 2 bar enhanced SA production and maximum of 14.86 gL-1 was achieved with a productivity of 0.36 gL-1h-1 and yield of 52.10%. Varying partial pressures depicted significant influence on total acids profile, where at lower pressures (0.6 bar) lactic (5.6 gL-1) and acetic acids (4.1 gL-1) became dominant products, while concentration of SA was 2.07 gL-1, by the end of cycle. The desirable effect of moderately elevated pressures for converting CO2 to platform chemicals can be a potential strategy in overcoming current challenges related to CO2 abatement. This work investigated the effects of integration of floc, aggregate and carrier (IFAC) on anammox biofilm quality and development mechanisms. The IFAC system harvested high-quality anammox biofilm with a reduction of 60% in the formation period, an increment of 282.14%~397.26% in mechanical stability, an enhancement of 10.18 ~ 21.56% in ecological stability and an improvement of 9.44%~46.18% in abundance of the phylum Planctomycetes. Aggregates enabled carriers to accumulate initial biomass efficiently and equipped biofilm with additional joint forces. Floc promoted accumulation of terminal biomass, enhanced ecological stability by improving community diversity and raised abundance of the phylum Planctomycetes by assisting anammox consortium settlement. A model of the development procedure of high-quality anammox biofilm was established and a strategy for pre-designing the IFAC system to reap high-quality biofilm was proposed. We expect our findings to provide theoretical guidance for designs and applications of anammox process with excellent stability.

Method Observational, prospective study carried out from May 2017 through June 2019 in patients with different tumor diagnoses treated with nivolumab. Blood samples were obtained in the routine clinical practice, once nivolumab steady state was reached. Serum nivolumab levels were determined by means of quantitative ELISA. The standard schedule of 3 mg/kg every two weeks (Q2W) was modified in some patients due to different circumstances, and resulting serum concentrations were compared with those from the non-modified patients and the published data. Results Blood samples from 19 patients in treatment with nivolumab were analyzed. A total of 39 samples of nivolumab were analyzed between 6th and 27th cycles. The standard schedule of 3 mg/kg every two weeks was modified in 12/19 (60%) patients, with intervals of 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 weeks, once the steady state was reached. No statistically significant differences were detected when comparing every two weeks and every four week intervals. When the intervals were six or seven weeks, mean plasma concentration showed a statistically significant difference compared with every two weeks. Conclusions Current data contribute to confirm former suspects about the possibilities of exploring new scenarios to improve and personalize nivolumab dosage. Additional studies to confirm it in bigger series and correlate it with clinical results, and to better define the role of therapeutic drug monitoring in the treatment, are warranted, not only by financial concerns but also for improving quality of life of patients and clinical management aspects.

Cardiac tissue models comprised of stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes require inclusion of non-myocytes to promote stable tissue formation, yet the specific contributions of the supporting non-myocyte population on the parenchymal cardiomyocytes and cardiac microtissues have yet to be fully dissected. This gap can be partly attributed to limitations in technologies able to accurately study the individual cellular structure and function that comprise intact 3D tissues. The ability to interrogate the cell-cell interactions in 3D tissue constructs has been restricted by conventional optical imaging techniques that fail to adequately penetrate multicellular microtissues with sufficient spatial resolution. Light sheet fluorescence microscopy overcomes these constraints to enable single cell-resolution structural and functional imaging of intact cardiac microtissues. Multicellular spatial distribution analysis of heterotypic cardiac cell populations revealed that cardiomyocytes and cardiac fibroblasts were randomly distributed throughout 3D microtissues. Furthermore, calcium imaging of live cardiac microtissues enabled single-cell detection of cardiomyocyte calcium activity, which showed that functional heterogeneity correlated with spatial location within the tissues. We found these categories to parallel three theoretical concepts relating to caregivers in general compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, and self-compassion. Consequently, we propose a new inclusive theoretical concept termed Maternal Compassion Preoccupation. The findings and conceptualization can contribute to the theoretical knowledge associated with early maternal caregiving, and to a new perspective on interventions aimed at helping women to cope with the high care demands of early motherhood.

  • This research aimed to examine health-care workers' grief counseling for bereaved families of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) victims in China. Our research may provide a new opportunity to stimulate development of grief counseling in China.

    A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 724 health-care workers selected by convenience sampling from 7 hospitals in Wuhan. Data collection tools included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the skills of grief counseling scale (SGCS), and the attitudes of grief counseling scale (AGCS).

    Since December 2019, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been discovered in Wuhan and spread rapidly across China and worldwide. Characteristics of infected patients are needed to get insight into the full spectrum of the disease.

    Epidemiological and clinical information of 1738 diagnosed patients during February 7-26, 2020 in Wuhan Dongxihu Fangcang Hospital were analyzed. A total of 709 patients were followed up on symptom, mental health, isolation site, and medication after discharge.

    There were 852 males and 886 females in the cohort. The average age of the patients was 48.8 y. A total of 79.98% of the patients were from Wuhan, Hubei Province. The most common initial symptoms were fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Among all the patients, 1463 had complications, with respiratory distress as the most common complication. The average duration of hospitalization was 15.95 ± 14.69 d. The most common postdischarge symptom is cough. After discharge, most patients were full of energy and chose hotel as their self-isolation site.     The breadth of research on the impact of nutrition-specific policies to address child undernutrition is not well documented. This review maps the evidence base and identifies gaps on such policies.

    We systematically searched Medline, Embase, PAIS Index for public policy, Scopus and Web of Science databases to identify eligible studies. Key study characteristics, including research design, type of policy, time span of policy before impact assessment, child age at outcome assessment and types of outcomes assessed, were abstracted in duplicate.

Most studies were observational, reported on mandatory regional or sub-national polices, were conducted in high-income countries and evaluated policies within 1 year of implementation. A narrow set of health outcomes were evaluated, most commonly iodine deficiency disorders and neural tube defects.

    Nutrition policies were commonly associated with improved child nutritional status and health. However, this evidence is primarily based on limited settings and on a limited number of outcomes.     This research aimed to examine health-care workers' grief counseling for bereaved families of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) victims in China. Our research may provide a new opportunity to stimulate development of grief counseling in China. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 724 health-care workers selected by convenience sampling from 7 hospitals in Wuhan. Data collection tools included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the skills of grief counseling scale (SGCS), and the attitudes of grief counseling scale (AGCS).   • Machines and devices for the production, transport and segregation of products are placed in production and storage rooms. Flat conveyor and drive belts are very often used for their construction. Due to heavy loads and difficult operating conditions, these belts can catch fire and, as a result, become the main source of air contaminants harmful to human health and life. This article examines the emission level of toxic chemical compounds most often produced during the thermal decomposition and combustion of flat drive and conveyor belts. Six types of flat belts, which were made of various polymer materials, i.e., polyamide, rubber, and polyurethane, and were pyrolyzed in a tube furnace at 950 °C, were tested for emission. Using an Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy gas analyser, five gaseous products of combustion were identified, i.e., carbon mono oxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen bromide and sulfur dioxide (SO2). Chemical analysis showed that SO2 compounds and hydrogen bromide were present in only two samples. The test results indicate that gas emission concentration limits for all the tested belts were significantly exceeded. A comparative analysis of the concentration limits of V-belts described in the authors' earlier works shows that flat belts demonstrate lower emission levels of harmful compounds than V-belts. In addition, research has shown that compared to traditional rubber-based belts, belts made of modern materials exhibit no emission of hydrogen chloride compounds during thermal decomposition and combustion.Methods used to assess quiet standing in unilateral prosthesis users often assume validity of an inverted pendulum model despite this being shown as invalid in some instances. Novel approaches are presented to address the intrinsic dependencies of texture radiomic features, choosing the optimal number of grey levels and correcting for the dependency on volume. With the optimal values and corrections, feature values are compared across thicknesses to identify reproducible features. Normalisation using muscle regions is also described as an alternative approach. With either method, a large fraction of features (75-90%) was found to be highly robust ( less then 25% difference). The analyses were performed on a homogeneous CT dataset of 43 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, and consistent results were obtained for both tumour and muscle tissue. Finally, recommended guidelines are included for radiomic studies using variable slice thickness.Field experiments were carried out in 2018 and 2019 cropping seasons at Landmark University Teaching and Research farm, Omu-Aran Kwara state, Nigeria, to determine the effect of soil applied Zn-fertilizer, Tithonia diversifolia (Ti), Chromolaena odorata (Ch) and poultry manure (PM) on the performance, yield, minerals and vitamins composition of okra fruits. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four repetitions. Vegetative, yield and quality parameters of okra were taken. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and means were compared using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at p ≤ 0.05. Variations were observed on the vegetative parameters, yield, minerals and vitamin composition of okra among the applied amendments. The combined application of green biomass, poultry manure, and Zn-fertilizer improved all the variables tested as compared to when they were applied singly. Application of Zn-fertilizer to some selected plots significantly increased yield, Zn, Mg and vitamins concentration of okra. Application of 5 t ha-1 Ti + 5 t ha-1 PM + 10 kg ha-1 Zn (T3) and 5 t ha-1 Ch + 5 t ha-1 PM + 10 kg ha-1 Zn (T4) significantly improved all the parameters tested but the use of 5 t ha-1 Ti + 5 t ha-1 PM + 10 kg ha-1 Zn (T3) resulted in optimum yield and at the same time increase minerals and vitamin concentration of okra. The results of this study therefore showed that Tithonia diversifolia (Ti) as green biomass contained and released more and quality nutrients than Chromolaena odorata (Ch) when combined with equal rate of Zn fertilizer and poultry manure.

Umbilical artery Doppler helps in the identification of small-for-gestational-age fetuses at higher risk, and is one of the essential vessels in the assessment of fetal hypoxia impairment, especially in the early cases. It helps in the decision timing for ending the pregnancy improving thus perinatal outcomes. Moreover, in high-risk pregnancies, umbilical artery Doppler has demonstrated to reduce the risk of perinatal deaths and the risk of obstetric interventions.     Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease for which there are currently no effective therapies. CO-Search is built from two sequential parts a hybrid semantic-keyword retriever, which takes an input query and returns a sorted list of the 1000 most relevant documents, and a re-ranker, which further orders them by relevance. However, the genomic diversity within E. coli STs in both aquatic environments is similar. Wastewater environments favor the selection of conserved chromosomal structures associated with diverse flexible plasmids, unraveling promiscuous interplasmidic resistance genes flux. We find that body mass and phylogeny are highly correlated with relative brain and brain component size, and that locomotion strongly influences brain, petrosal lobule, and neocortical sizes. Notably, species living in trees have greater relative overall brain, petrosal lobule, and neocortical sizes compared to other locomotor categories, especially fossorial taxa. Across millions of years of Eocene-Recent environmental change, arboreality played a major role in the early evolution of squirrels and closely related aplodontiids, promoting the expansion of the neocortex and petrosal lobules. Fossoriality in aplodontiids had an opposing effect by reducing the need for large brains.

  • Chronic pruritus associated with underlying malignancy can greatly hinder a patient's quality of life. The severity is variable and patients frequently fail traditional first line therapies. We report a patient with diffuse, chronic pruritus secondary to peripheral T Cell Lymphoma (PTCL) who had same day response to mirtazapine after a litany of other agents were unsuccessful.Topical pain therapy offers several potential advantages as an alternative or adjunct to oral analgesic therapy, including decrease in concurrent oral drug use, lower abuse potential, lower side effects and toxicity, and localized effects. A variety of drugs and cream bases designed to promote transdermal delivery allow for unlimited customization of compounded topical pain creams (CTPC) for specific patients. The purpose of this study was to understand why patients begin CTPC therapy, their perceptions of CTPC therapy, and their level of satisfaction with CTPC therapy. A self-administered survey was distributed to patients receiving a compounded prescription. This study describes detailed clinical and molecular findings in a series of five patients affected by PM from four unrelated families.Materials and Methods All patients underwent a complete ophthalmological and genetic evaluation. For proper and deep phenotyping a multimodal instrumental approach was used for all cases B-scan ultrasound, spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), fundus retinal imaging and anterior segment data were obtained. Molecular analysis of PRSS56 and MFRP genes was performed with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) methodology and segregation analysis on parents and one affected sibling was performed with Sanger sequencing.Results A very high hyperopia of +14.00D or more was the main refractive error and macular abnormalities were identified in all patients. Axial length ranged from 15.3 mm to 17.86 mm (mean 16.58 mm) and age at first presentation ranged from 6 to 36 months (mean 18 months). Anterior chamber depth was within normal values, according to age, while total axial length was severely reduced in all patients. All our patients met the diagnostic criteria for PM. Three patients, including a pair of siblings, carried compound heterozygous mutations in the PRSS56 gene; in the other two patients, one homozygous or two compound heterozygous mutations in the MFRP gene were detected.Conclusion Our study describes four novel mutations in the PRSS56 gene and one in the MFRP gene in patients with non-syndromic posterior microphthalmos. The primary objective of our study was to explore the proportion of ectopic pregnancies (EPs) that were conceived during contraceptive use among women in Stockholm County. Secondary objectives were to establish the prevalence of contraceptive methods used at the time of EP and the intended contraceptive method after treatment completion.Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study of 1180 women diagnosed with and treated for EP between 1 December 2013 and 30 April 2017 at all hospitals in Stockholm County. Demographic variables and contraceptive use before and after treatment were noted. Exclusion criteria were uncertainty about the diagnosis of EP in the patient records and planned treatment/follow-up outside Stockholm County.Results A total of 222/1180 (18.8%) EPs were conceived during known contraceptive use. A total of 112/222 (50.5%) women with known use of contraception at the time of conception discontinued contraceptive use and 81/857 (9.5%) women with no prior use of contraception initiated contraceptive use. Among the 857 women, 520 (60.7%) expressed a desire to conceive. The psychological instruments used in this study were Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Infant Characteristic Questionnaire, and Perceived Quality of Marital Relationship Scale .Results Hierarchical regression analyses showed that previous maternal depression longer than two weeks, postnatal depression and anxiety symptoms, and difficult and unpredictable infant temperament were associated with self-report of poorer mother-infant bonding.

The psychological instruments used in this study were Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Infant Characteristic Questionnaire, and Perceived Quality of Marital Relationship Scale .Results Hierarchical regression analyses showed that previous maternal depression longer than two weeks, postnatal depression and anxiety symptoms, and difficult and unpredictable infant temperament were associated with self-report of poorer mother-infant bonding.

  • The glycoside hydrolase, PslG, attacks and degrades the dominant Psl polysaccharide in the exopolymeric substance (EPS) matrix of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms and is a promising therapy to potentiate the effect of antibiotics. However, the need for coadministration with an antibiotic and the potential susceptibility of PslG to proteolysis highlights the need for an effective delivery system. Here, we compared liposomes versus lipid liquid crystal nanoparticles (LCNPs) loaded with PslG and tobramycin as potential formulation approaches to (1) protect PslG from proteolysis, (2) trigger the enzyme's release in the presence of bacteria, and (3) improve the total antimicrobial effect in vitro and in vivo in a Caenorhabditis elegans infection model. LCNPs were an effective formulation strategy for PslG and tobramycin that better protected the enzyme against proteolysis, triggered and sustained the release of PslG, improved the antimicrobial effect by 10-100-fold, and increased the survival of C. elegans infected with P. aeruginosa. Digestible LCNPs had the advantage of triggering the enzyme's release in the presence of bacteria. However, compared to nondigestible LCNPs, negligible differences arose between the LCNPs' ability to protect PslG from proteolysis and potentiate the antimicrobial activity in combination with tobramycin. In C. elegans, the improved antimicrobial efficacy was comparable to tobramycin-LCNPs, although the PslG + tobramycin-LCNPs achieved a greater than 10-fold reduction in bacteria compared to the unformulated combination. COFs synthesized from more than two monomers usually employ mixtures with different pendant functionalities to distribute these groups statistically throughout the structure, or monomers with different sizes in ratios targeting lower symmetry topologies. Here, we demonstrate that mixtures of monomers with different lengths generate single-phase, hexagonal two-dimensional covalent organic framework (2D COF) solid solutions at continuously variable feed ratios. X-ray diffraction measurements, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and Pawley refinement indicate that both monomers distribute randomly within the same lattice, and the lattice parameters continuously increase as more of the larger linker is incorporated. Furthermore, COF solid solutions are accessed directly by polymerizing a mixture of monomers but not via linker exchange from a preformed COF. As strain develops from the lattice accommodating monomers with different sizes, the nonlinear relationship between the monomer incorporation and the COF's lattice parameters suggests that bond-bending of the monomers plays a role in incorporating monomers of different lengths into the solid solutions. Solid solution formation represents a new strategy to design 2D COFs and increase their complexity. Here, we describe a highly active heterogeneous catalyst (Ni-ZIF-8) for ethylene dimerization, which consists of isolating Ni-active sites selectively located on the crystal surface of a zeolitic imidazolate framework. Ni-ZIF-8 can be easily prepared by a simple one-pot synthesis method in which site-specific anchoring of Ni is achieved spontaneously because of the incompatibility between the d8 electronic configuration of Ni2+ and the three-dimensional framework of ZIF-8. The full exposure and square-planar coordination of the Ni sites accounts for the high catalytic activity of Ni-ZIF-8. It exhibits an average ethylene turnover frequency greater than 1 000 000 h-1 (1-butene selectivity >85%) at 35 °C and 50 bar, far exceeding the activities of previously reported heterogeneous catalysts and many homogeneous catalysts under similar conditions. Moreover, compared to molecular Ni complexes used as homogeneous catalysts for ethylene dimerization, Ni-ZIF-8 has significantly higher stability and shows constant activity during 4 h of continuous reaction.
