Therefore, it was desired to determine the capacity of curcumin to alleviate micronuclei formation in human peripheral blood lymphocytes (HPBLs) exposed to 0-4 Gy of γ-radiation.

    HPBLs were exposed to 3 Gy after 30 minutes of 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 50 µg/mL curcumin treatment or with 0.5 μg/mL curcumin 30 minutes early to 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3 or 4 Gy
    Co γ-irradiation. Cytokinesis of HPBLs was blocked by cytochalasin B and micronuclei scored. The ability of curcumin to suppress free radical induction invitro was determined by standard methods.

These associations varied across the dimensions of ED examined. Regression analyses were run to examine the unique effects of ED (separate models for overall and specific dimensions) and psychological symptoms; overall ED and its dimensions accounted for significant variance in parental behaviors (R2 = .10-.24, p's less then .01), while additional model steps including psychological symptoms were not significant except for the association between depression and lower warmth. The aim of this review is not only to provide a state-of-the-art of diamond electrochemistry but also to serve as a reference point for any researcher wishing to commence work with diamond electrodes and understand electrochemical data. Therefore, it is focused on the carbon-based materials, electrochemical properties of the BDD film electrode, its fundamental research, and its electrochemical pretreatment process are discussed in detail. In this case, there are important studies to show the effective BDD drug sensors for the detection and determination of drugs and the present review critically summarizes the available data in this field between 2015 and 2020.

  • This work has direct implications for design guidance standards, which we discuss.Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) purports to explain extremity pain accompanied by a variety of subjective complaints, including sensitivity to touch, fatigue, burning sensations, allodynia and signs consistent with voluntary immobilization, including skin changes, edema and trophic changes. By its own definition, CRPS pain is disproportionate to any inciting event or underlying pathology, which means that the syndrome describes non-anatomic and exaggerated symptoms. Although CRPS was coined in the early 1990s, physicians have described unexplained exaggerated pain for centuries. Before a small group of researchers assigned this historical phenomenon with the name CRPS, other physicians in various subspecialties investigated the existence of a common pathophysiologic mechanism but found none. A-1396076 inhibited antigen dependent T cell activation as measured by IFN-γ production in an ex vivo re-stimulation assay and following anti-CD3 challenge of MOG-sensitized ****. A-1396076 reduced costimulatory molecule expression on dendritic cells in the lungs of OVA LPS challenged **** suggesting that the mechanism of T cell inhibition was mediated at least partially by interfering with antigen presentation. These data suggest that NRF2 activation may be an effective strategy to dampen inflammation for treatment of autoimmune disease.
    Bacterial infections of the lung, skin, bloodstream and other tissues are common in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) and are often more severe and invasive than similar infections in control populations. A variety of studies have explored the changes in bacterial abundance in lupus patients, the rates of infection and the influence of particular bacterial species on disease progression, using both human patient samples and mouse models of lupus.

    The aim of this review is to summarize human and mouse studies that describe changes in the bacterial microbiome in lupus, the role of a leaky gut in stimulating inflammation, identification of specific bacterial species associated with lupus, and the potential roles of certain common bacterial infections in promoting lupus progression.

    Information was collected using searches of the Pubmed database for articles relevant to bacterial infections in lupus and to microbiome changes associated with lupus.

The spectrum of clinical manifestations in IgG4-RD is highly variable, depending on the severity of the disease as well as the presence of organ(s) involvement. This review gives an overview on changing epidemiology of IgG4-RD focusing the attention on the large cohorts of patients published in the literature.
    Neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for T1/T2 pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) prior to pancreaticoduodenectomy remains controversial. We compared positive margin rates in patients with clinical T1&T2 tumors who did and did not receive NAT.

    The National Cancer Database (NCDB) found clinical T1&T2 PDAC patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy from 2004 to 2014. Univariate and multivariate regression determined factors associated with a positive margin and survival.

    9795 patients underwent surgery for clinical T1 or T2 pancreatic head adenocarcinoma. 8472 patients had data regarding use of neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies; of which, 774 (9.1%) received NAT and 435 (5.1%) received both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. NAT was found to lower positive margin rates from 21.8 to 15.5% (p < 0.0001) and when radiation was added this rate dropped to 13.4%. Positive margins were associated with worse overall survival (14.9 vs. 23.9 months; HR 1.702,
     < 0.0001).

    NAT is associated with a reduced positive margin rate in patients with T1 and T2 tumors. These findings support ongoing and future clinical trials of NAT in T1 and T2, early stage PDAC to determine impacts on survival.

    Increasing evidence highlights dietary fructose as a major driver of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) pathogenesis, the majority of which is cleared on first pass through the hepatic circulation by enzymatic phosphorylation to fructose-1-phosphate via the ketohexokinase (KHK) enzyme. Without a current approved therapy, disease management emphasises lifestyle interventions, but few patients adhere to such strategies. New targeted therapies are urgently required.

We have also performed a detailed nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabolic tracing of the fate of isotopically labelled fructose upon administration to the human liver.

Our results revealed a small effect (weighted mean standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.12; nine studies) of physical training on the psychological measure Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Patellar tendon scale and a medium effect (weighted mean SMD = 0.61; five studies) on the psychological measure visual analogue scale-both in favour of the intervention group. In contrast, a small effect (weighted mean SMD = -0.05; two studies) in favour of the control group was detected for the physical measure muscle power. Compared to the control condition, physical training seems to be an effective means to improve psychological but not physical parameters in individuals with patella tendon myopathy; although conclusions on the latter could have been biased by the small amount of eligible studies (n = 2). The primary endpoint was the number of monthly headache days during weeks 8-12 of treatment compared to baseline. Additionally, we evaluated the frequency during weeks 20-24. We analysed the percentage of patients with 50% and 75% response rates and the retention rates after three and 6 months of treatment. 120/4121 patients were eligible, aged 45.9 [11.5]; 100 (83.3%) female. Eighty-four patients (70%) had chronic migraine and 53 (42.7%) had medication-overuse headache. The median number of prior prophylactics was 3 (Inter-quartile range 2-5). At baseline, patients had 20.5 ± 8.5 headache days per month, decreasing 4.3 ± 8.4 days by 3 months (weeks 12-16) and by 4.7 ± 8.7 days by 6 months (paired Student's t-test, p  less then  0.001). A 6-h incubation of primary granuloma cells markedly reduced AID expression, whereas it was maintained by recombinant GDF-9. In contrast, SCF expression was induced by more than threefold, whereas GDF-9 completely inhibited its increase. In the presence of GDF-9, knockdown of AID by siRNA further decreased SCF expression. However, in AID-suppressed granulosa cells and ovarian tissues of AID-knockout mice, there were no differences in the methylation of SCF and GDF-9. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of candesartan in clinical practice and to explore predictors of patient response. Retrospective cohort study including all patients with migraine who received candesartan between April 2008-February 2019. The primary endpoint was the number of monthly headache days during weeks 8-12 of treatment compared to baseline. Additionally, we evaluated the frequency during weeks 20-24. We analysed the percentage of patients with 50% and 75% response rates and the retention rates after three and 6 months of treatment. 120/4121 patients were eligible, aged 45.9 [11.5]; 100 (83.3%) female. Eighty-four patients (70%) had chronic migraine and 53 (42.7%) had medication-overuse headache. The median number of prior prophylactics was 3 (Inter-quartile range 2-5). At baseline, patients had 20.5 ± 8.5 headache days per month, decreasing 4.3 ± 8.4 days by 3 months (weeks 12-16) and by 4.7 ± 8.7 days by 6 months (paired Student's t-test, p  less then  0.001). The percentage of patients with a 50% response was 32.5% at 3 months and 31.7% at 6 months, while the retention rate was 85.0% and 58.3%. For each decision, we tested the association between salient patient factors (age, glucocorticoid use, recent fracture, BMD hip or spine T-score≤-2.5, FRAX major osteoporotic fracture probability ≥20%) using multivariable logistic regression.     In this multicenter, retrospective, observational study, we reviewed the files of patients >18 years old who underwent surgery for SM using percutaneous spinal stabilization without fusion with a minimum 3-month follow-up. The following variables were included demographics, clinical findings, prior radiation history, SM location, epidural spinal cord compression scale, Spinal Instability Neoplastic Scale, neurological examination, and surgery-related data. Primary outcome measure was implant failure rate, as observed in patients' last computed tomography scan. Multivariable analysis was performed to identify baseline factors and factors associated with implant failure.

    Analysis included 72 patients. Mean age of patients was 62 years, 39 patients were men, and 75% of patients had an intermediate Spinal Instability Neoplastic Scale score. Tumor separation surgery was performed in 48.6% of patients. Short instrumentation was indicated in 54.2% of patients. Three patients (4.2%) experienced implant failure (2 screw loosening, 1 screw cut-out); none of them required revision surgery. In 73.6% of cases, survival was >6 months. No significant predictors of failure were identified in the multivariate analysis.

    A low implant failure rate was observed over the short and medium term, even when short instrumentations without fusion were performed. These findings suggest that minimally invasive stabilization surgery without fusion may be an effective and safe way to treat complicated SM.

    To emphasize the importance of vertebral artery (VA) mobilization by reviewing the anatomy and variations of the VA while performing total resection of VA-associated tumors that develop from different tissues.

    VA mobilization and mass resection were performed after the evaluation and preoperative imaging of 22 patients with VA-related tumors. Anterior, posterior, or both approaches were conducted on the patients and stabilization was also applied to the patients in need. Radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy were planned for patients with malignant tumors as shown by histopathology.

    Overall, 17 patients with benign and 5 patients with malignant tumors underwent tumor resection with VA mobilizing. There were 13 male and 9 female patients with a mean age of 29.3 years. The average follow-up duration was 53 months. All the patients received gross total tumor resection and had a good postoperative neurological recovery. No complications were observed; local recurrence was observed only in 2 patients.

We report a first mega trench excavation at Himebasti village, Arunachal Pradesh, India, and analyze it with modern geological techniques. The study includes twenty-one radiocarbon dates to limit the timing of displacement after 1445 CE, suggesting that the area was devastated in the 1697 CE event, known as Sadiya Earthquake, with a dip-slip displacement of 15.3 ± 4.6 m. Intensity prediction equations and scaling laws for earthquake rupture size allow us to constraints a magnitude of Mw 7.7-8.1 and a minimum rupture length of ~ 100 km for the 1697 CE earthquake.Afrotheria is a clade of African-origin species with striking dissimilarities in appearance and habitat. In this study, we compared whole proteome sequences of six Afrotherian species to obtain a broad viewpoint of their underlying molecular make-up, to recognize potentially unique proteomic signatures. We find that 62% of the proteomes studied here, predominantly involved in metabolism, are orthologous, while the number of homologous proteins between individual species is as high as 99.5%. Further, we find that among Afrotheria, L. africana has several orphan proteins with 112 proteins showing  less then  30% sequence identity with their homologues. Rigorous sequence searches and complementary approaches were employed to annotate 156 uncharacterized protein sequences and 28 species-specific proteins. For 122 proteins we predicted potential functional roles, 43 of which we associated with protein- and nucleic-acid binding roles. Further, we analysed domain content and variations in their combinations within Afrotheria and identified 141 unique functional domain architectures, highlighting proteins with potential for specialized functions. Finally, we discuss the potential relevance of highly represented protein families such as MAGE-B2, olfactory receptor and ribosomal proteins in L. africana and E. edwardii, respectively. Therefore, cancer-dependent proteins in WBCs can be used as tumour markers with high sensitivity. Five proteins (LMAN1, AZI2, STAU2, MMP9 and PLOD1) from a systemic analysis of a variety of array data of breast cancer patients were subjected to immunofluorescence staining to evaluate the presence of fixed WBCs on 96-well plates from 363 healthy females and 358 female breast cancer patients. The results revealed that the average fluorescence intensity of anti-STAU2 and the percentage of STAU2-positive T and B lymphocytes in breast cancer patients (110.50 ± 23.38 and 61.87 ± 12.44, respectively) were significantly increased compared with those in healthy females (56.47 ± 32.03 and 33.02 ± 18.10, respectively) (p = 3.56 × 10-71, odds ratio = 24.59, 95% CI = 16.64-36.34). The effect of secreted molecules from breast cancer cells was proven by the increase in STAU2 intensity in PBMCs cocultured with MCF-7 and T47D cells at 48 h (p = 0.0289). The test demonstrated 98.32%, 82.96%, and 48.32% sensitivity and 56.47%, 83.47%, and 98.62% specificity in correlation with the percentage of STAU2-positive cells at 40, 53.34 and 63.38, respectively. Five proteins (LMAN1, AZI2, STAU2, MMP9 and PLOD1) from a systemic analysis of a variety of array data of breast cancer patients were subjected to immunofluorescence staining to evaluate the presence of fixed WBCs on 96-well plates from 363 healthy females and 358 female breast cancer patients. The results revealed that the average fluorescence intensity of anti-STAU2 and the percentage of STAU2-positive T and B lymphocytes in breast cancer patients (110.50 ± 23.38 and 61.87 ± 12.44, respectively) were significantly increased compared with those in healthy females (56.47 ± 32.03 and 33.02 ± 18.10, respectively) (p = 3.56 × 10-71, odds ratio = 24.59, 95% CI = 16.64-36.34). The effect of secreted molecules from breast cancer cells was proven by the increase in STAU2 intensity in PBMCs cocultured with MCF-7 and T47D cells at 48 h (p = 0.0289). The test demonstrated 98.32%, 82.96%, and 48.32% sensitivity and 56.47%, 83.47%, and 98.62% specificity in correlation with the percentage of STAU2-positive cells at 40, 53.34 and 63.38, respectively. We also demonstrated how to use the STAU2 test for the assessment of risk in women under the age of 40. The importance of such a model is to open avenues for investigating regeneration of the complex tooth and tooth attachment tissues and to reduce the need for experimental animals in investigating dental materials and treatments in the future. The aim of this study was to develop a porcine tooth in situ organ culture model and a novel bioreactor suitable for future studies of periodontal regeneration, including application of appropriate physiological loading. To model diffusion characteristics within the organ culture system and design and develop a bioreactor that allows tooth loading and simulation of the chewing cycle. Unfortunately, none of the commercial ion sources can be used for ionization of different types of compounds. Moreover, in MS, analyte molecules must be released into the gaseous phase and then ionize by using a suitable ion source for detection/quantification. Under these circumstances, fabrication of new ambient ion source and ultrasonic cutter blade-based non-thermal and thermal desorption methods have been taken into account. In this paper, challenges and strategies of mass spectrometry analysis of the drugs of abuse and explosives through fabrication of ambient ionization sources and new desorption methods for non-volatile compounds have been described. We will focus the literature progress mostly in the last decade and present our views for the future study.Regular physical activity (PA) reduces the health risk of childhood obesity and associated chronic diseases as well as mental health problems. Since PA declines as children age as well with future generations it is of highest importance to intervene in school and out-of-school settings. Out-of-school periods affect children's PA as it is mainly left to the interest and motivation of their parents. We compared accelerometer-based PA patterns in 93 6- to 9-year old children assessed four times before (May/June), during (August), and after (September) summer holidays and at a 1-year follow up (May/June). Before summer holidays children were assessed also for anthropometry and motor tests. During summer holidays overall PA decreased by 18% (p less then 0.001), physical inactivity increased by 5.5% (p less then 0.001), moderate PA decreased by 53% (p less then 0.001) and moderate to vigorous PA decreased by 45% (p less then 0.001) when compared to before summer holidays. Furthermore, overall PA remained diminished also after summer holidays by 8.8% (p = 0.001) but recovered to baseline values at 1-year follow up. About 30% of overall PA and moderate to vigorous PA decrease during summer holidays could be explained by children's fitness level as a greater decrease was found in children with better results in standing long jump and 300-meter running time. Our finding detects an alarming summer holiday decrease in children PA that should not be neglected in future studies and intervention designs.

    The clinical significance of carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) for octogenarians with locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of CIRT alone for octogenarians with LA-NSCLC.

    We evaluated 32 patients who underwent CIRT alone between 1997 and 2015. The median age was 82.0years (range, 80-88years). In terms of clinical stage (UICC 7th edition), 7 (21.9%), 10 (31.3%), 11 (34.4%), and 4 (12.5%) patients had stage IIA, IIB, IIIA, and ΙΙΙB disease, respectively. The median CIRT dose was 72.0Gy (relative biological effectiveness), and the median follow-up period was 33.1months.

    All patients successfully completed CIRT. Regarding grade ≥ 2 toxicities, 1 (3.1%), 3 (9.4%), and 4 (0.7%) patients developed grade 3 radiation pneumonitis, grade 2 radiation pneumonitis, and grade 2 dermatitis, respectively. For this purpose, we carried out an ex vivo exposure of gill of Piaractus mesopotamicus fish to 100 μg L-1 of AgNPs or AgNO3, alone and in combination with 10 mg L-1 of HAs. In parallel, a complete AgNP characterization in the media, including the presence of HAs, was provided, and the Ag+ release was measured. We analyzed Ag bioaccumulation, antioxidant enzymes activities, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant capacity against peroxyl radicals, and reduced glutathione levels in fish tissue. Our results indicated the Ag+ release from AgNPs decreased 28% when the HAs were present in the media. The Ag accumulation in gill tissue exposed to AgNPs alone was higher than the AgNO3 exposure, and sixfold higher than the treatment with the HA addition. We describe various cell lineage tracing studies to follow their patterns of division, and the fates of their progeny during development, homeostasis, and wound healing. In addition, we present some preliminary results using the Xenopus model system. Ultimately, a more thorough understanding of these cornea cells will advance our knowledge of stem cell biology and lead to better cornea disease therapeutics.
    Primary cutaneous lymphomas (PCL) often strongly differ in clinical behavior and prognosis from systemic lymphomas of the same histopathologic type. The aim of the study was to investigate the distribution of PCL subtypes, the average time from disease manifestation to diagnosis, the importance of diagnostic procedures, the occurrence of secondary malignancies and the different treatment modalities.

    Retrospective analysis of 152 patients with PCL examined at the Department of Dermatology of the University Hospital Tübingen from 2010-2012.

    105 patients with CTCL (69.1%) and 47 patients with CBCL (30.9%) were included. The average time from disease manifestation to diagnosis was four years.   • There are substantial limitations in accessibility and completeness of data, which has unintended consequences for the construction of social identities of those affected, including how multiple forms of exclusion and structural oppression are represented. Our experiences as researchers are complex and have driven us to implement strategies to mitigate vicarious trauma. We assert that these issues can be addressed by reconceptualizing the goals of data collection and fostering collaborative discussions among those involved in data collection and violence prevention to strengthen research, prevention efforts and safety for all involved.In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Nigeria police was entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating local shutdowns, encouraging social distancing, enforcing stay-at-home mandates, and supervising compulsory wearing of face masks. Drawing from procedural justice theory, this study explored accounts of unlawful use of force, human rights violations, and other police misconducts that resulted from the enforcement of COVID-19 measures. Using a victim-centred approach involving qualitative, in-depth interviews with 71 people, who perceived their encounters with the police enforcing COVID-19 measures as bordering on their rights, were conducted, and a thematic analysis of the narratives carried out. Oyster habitats had significantly greater metrics than did bare sediment habitats in some comparisons from the box trap and seine net samples. Restored oyster sites at South Sanctuary had lower metric values than the other oyster sites. Metrics from the Aquaculture sites were comparable to the Foster's Cove and Grassy Point restored oyster sites and often outperformed South Sanctuary restored oyster sites. Seasonally, spring and autumn samples tended to have higher abundance and biomass values than summer. Isotopic composition of five species occurring at both restored oyster and bare sediment sites demonstrated some differences in the trophic levels between species but not between habitat types. The communication framework is a key element for a successful hybrid fire testing and this paper will present the development of such communication in MATLAB. To validate the communication framework, first, a single degree of freedom linear system was analyzed, followed by a ten-story steel frame structure exposed to design fire. We develop the SRFI model, based on the public reading quantity and forwarding quantity that denote contact and participation respectively, and take into account the behavior that users may re-enter another related topic during the attention phase or the participation phase freely. Data fitting using the real data of both reading quantity and forwarding quantity obtained from Chinese Sina-microblog can parameterize the model to make an accurate prediction of the COVID-19 public opinion trend until the next major news item occurs, and the sensitivity analysis provides the basic strategies for communication.

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement using augmented reality surgical navigation during minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF).

    Augmented reality-based navigation is a new type of computer-assisted navigation where video cameras are used instead of infrared cameras to track the operated patients and surgical instruments. This technology has not so far been clinically evaluated for percutaneous pedicle screw placement.

    The study assessed percutaneous pedicle screw placement in 20 consecutive patients who underwent single-level minimally invasive TLIF using augmented reality surgical navigation. Facet joint violation and depression by the inserted pedicle screws were evaluated. Secondary outcome such as radiation dose exposure, fluoroscopy time, and operative time were collected for 3 phases of surgery preparation phase, pedicle screw placement, and decompression with cage placem.

    A prospectively maintained surgical registry was retrospectively reviewed for eligible spine surgeries between 2015 and 2019. Inclusion criteria were primary, single, or multilevel LD. Patients were excluded for missing preoperative patient-reported outcome surveys. Stratification was based on Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) score 0 points (no comorbidities), 1-2 points (low CCI), ≥3 points (high CCI). Demographics and perioperative characteristics were evaluated for differences.     Cognitive difficulties have a significant impact on life functioning and overall well-being in patients with psychosis spectrum disorders (PSDs). There are indications that continuous use of benzodiazepines (BZDs) in various patient groups has a detrimental effect on cognition. Our aim was to explore the association between long-term BZD prescription, global functioning, and cognitive functioning in persons with PSD.

    Lithium can cause not only acute neurotoxicity but also chronic and persistent neurotoxicity known as syndrome of irreversible lithium-effectuated neurotoxicity (SILENT). The combined use of lithium and antipsychotics increases the possibility of SILENT. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a reversible, idiosyncratic, and potentially life-threatening reaction, which is usually caused by antipsychotics and other agents, such as mood stabilizers (eg, lithium and metoclopramide). Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is characterized by hyperpyrexia, muscle rigidity, and altered mental status. We describe a case of SILENT combined with NMS in this case report.
