Data was collected from December 2019 to March 2020 through interviews and analyzed based on a thematic content analysis.

Osteon is the most important microstructure of cortical bone. Therefore, it is very important to study the toughening mechanism of the microstructure of osteon. There are three main kinds of cracks in cortical bone external crack of osteon, internal radial cracks of osteon and microporous damage cracks. Numerical models for these three kinds of cracks are established by XFEM and the progressive damage approach, respectively. The multi-toughening mechanisms of microstructure of osteon are found. The cement line on the outside of osteon is its first toughening mechanism, which can make the crack deflection and improve the fracture resistance of osteon. The resistance of cement line to fracture increases with the decrease of the strength and the increase of the thickness. The second toughening mechanism is elliptical osteocyte lacunae, which can attract the crack into the elliptical lacunae and cause stress redistribution to prevent the crack propagation. The annularly elliptical lacuna structure is an optimized arrangement and shape of microstructure, which is the third toughening mechanism of osteon. This microstructure can determine the location of the crack initiation and make the microcracks propagate along the annular direction rather than penetrating into the haversian cannal to protect the integrity of the osteon. The remarkably high contents of both total U (207.3-1117.7 mg/kg) and acid-leachable U (90.3-638.5 mg/kg) in the sediments exhibit a severe U contamination and mobilization-release risk. The U/Th activity ratios (ARs) indicate that all sediments have been contaminated apparently by U as a result of discharge of U containing wastewater, especially uranium mill tailings (UMT) leachate, while the variations of U/Th ARs are dominated by U geochemical behaviors (mainly redox process and adsorption). The U isotopic compositions (δ238U) showed a large variance through the sediment profile, varying from - 0.62 to - 0.04‰. The primary function of ABC transporters is to regulate the transport of endogenous and exogenous small molecules across the membrane barrier in various tissues. P-gp and similar efflux pumps are associated with MDR because of their overexpression in many cancer types. One of the intensively studied approaches to overcome this mode of MDR involves development of small molecules to modulate P-gp activity. This strategy improves the sensitivity of cancer cells to anticancer drugs that are otherwise ineffective. Although multiple generations of P-gp inhibitors have been identified to date, reported compounds have demonstrated low clinical efficacy and adverse effects. More recently, natural polyphenols have emerged as a promising class of compounds to address P-gp linked MDR. This review highlights the chemical structure and anticancer activities of selected members of a structurally unique class of 'biaryl' polyphenols. The discussion focuses on the anticancer properties of ellagic acid, ellagic acid derivatives, and schisandrins. Research reports regarding their inherent anticancer activities and their ability to sensitize MDR cell lines towards conventional anticancer drugs are highlighted here. Materials and Methods All patients who did not attend the follow-up visit from 4 to 15 April 2020 at our institution and who were re-scheduled due to the COVID-19 lockdown were selected to be enrolled in the study. To do so, the cytotoxicity of Ocoxin in a panel of BRAF-mutated murine and human melanoma cell lines was tested alone and in combination with BRAF inhibitor Vemurafenib. Our results revealed a potent cytotoxic effect of Ocoxin against melanoma cells and a synergic effect when combined with Vemurafenib, reducing viability and increasing apoptosis. Besides, Ocoxin interferes with the cell cycle, impairs the inherent and fibroblast-mediated melanoma cell migration, and reduces resistance to BRAF inhibition. The primary function of ABC transporters is to regulate the transport of endogenous and exogenous small molecules across the membrane barrier in various tissues. P-gp and similar efflux pumps are associated with MDR because of their overexpression in many cancer types. One of the intensively studied approaches to overcome this mode of MDR involves development of small molecules to modulate P-gp activity. This strategy improves the sensitivity of cancer cells to anticancer drugs that are otherwise ineffective. Although multiple generations of P-gp inhibitors have been identified to date, reported compounds have demonstrated low clinical efficacy and adverse effects. More recently, natural polyphenols have emerged as a promising class of compounds to address P-gp linked MDR. This review highlights the chemical structure and anticancer activities of selected members of a structurally unique class of 'biaryl' polyphenols. We suggest that pathogen's interaction with the stem cell niche may be relevant in potential inflammation induced PPTBL reactivation, which need significant research attention for the future development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for PPTBL, especially in a post COVID-19 pandemic world. Finally, we put forward potential animal models to study the stem cell basis of Mtb dormancy and reactivation.Food allergy is a collective term for several immune-mediated responses to food. Peanut allergy is a relevant disease model where pioneer discoveries were made in diagnosis, immunotherapy and prevention. This review provides an overview on the immune basis for phenotype variations in peanut-allergic individuals, in the light of future patient stratification along emerging omic-areas. Beyond specific IgE-signatures and basophil reactivity profiles with established correlation to clinical outcome, allergenomics, mass spectrometric resolution of peripheral allergen tracing, might be a fundamental approach to understand disease pathophysiology underlying biomarker discovery. Deep immune phenotyping is thought to reveal differential cell responses but also, gene expression and gene methylation profiles (eg, peanut severity genes) are promising areas for biomarker research. Finally, the study of microbiome-host interactions with a focus on the immune system modulation might hold the key to understand tissue-specific responses and symptoms. The immune mechanism underlying acute food-allergic events remains elusive until today. Deciphering this immunological response shall enable to identify novel biomarker for stratification of patients into reaction endotypes. We demonstrated the strong expression of Myl9/12 in the inflamed gut of IBD patients and **** with DSS-induced colitis. The administration of anti-Myl9/12 Ab to **** with DSS-induced colitis ameliorated the inflammation and prolonged their survival.   • We report a photonic technique to instantaneously synthesize cobalt oxide reduced graphitic oxide (CoOx-rGO) supercapacitor electrodes. The electrode processing is achieved through rapidly heating the precursor material by irradiation of high-energy pulsed mostly visible light from a xenon lamp. Due to the short duration of the light pulse, we prepared the electrodes at room temperature instantaneously (ms), thus eliminating the several hours of processing times of the conventional techniques. The as-prepared electrodes exhibited a highly porous morphology, allowing for enhanced ionic transport during electrochemical interactions. The electrochemical properties of the CoOx-rGO electrodes were studied in 1 M KOH aqueous electrolyte. The non-rectangular cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves with characteristic redox peaks indicated the pseudocapacitive charge storage mechanism of the electrodes. From the discharge curves at 0.4 mA/cm2 and 1.6 A/g constant current densities, the electrode showed areal specific capacitance of 17 mF/cm2 and specific capacitance of 69 F/g, respectively. Cyclic stability was tested by performing 30,000 galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) cycles and the electrode exhibited 65% capacitance retention, showing its excellent electrochemical performance and ultra-long cycle life. The excellent electrochemical electrode properties are attributed to the unique processing technique, optimum processing parameters, improved conductivity due to the presence of rGO, and highly porous morphology which offers a high specific surface area. The novel photonic processing we report allows for high-temperature heating of the precursor films achieved via non-radiative recombination of photogenerated electron holes pairs during irradiation. The longitudinal research method was adopted to collect data through a two-stage questionnaire survey of 1145 Shanghai residents. Results demonstrated that perceived policy effectiveness has a significant and positive impact on attitude, implementation intention, and proenvironmental behavior. This means that proenvironmental behavior tends to appear in people with a high perception of policy effectiveness, positive attitude, and strong implementation intention. Moreover, this study points out for the first time that high waste management knowledge weakens the relationship between perceived policy effectiveness and attitude. For residents with high waste management knowledge, the effect of simple policy publicity is limited. The findings suggest that the government should increase the breadth and depth of policy support and policy publicity to cover the entire waste management process.The study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of interim response evaluation during definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) in predicting overall treatment response and survival of patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (LAESCC). We reviewed 194 consecutive patients treated with dCRT for biopsy-confirmed LAESCC. A total of 51 patients met the inclusion criteria. Interim response was assessed by defining a region of interest in initial and adaptive computed tomography (CT) images and subsequently examined against the overall treatment response assessed three months after dCRT, treatment failure pattern, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) estimates. Reductions in both the area and maximal diameter of the primary lesion (p less then 0.001; p less then 0.001, respectively) and those of the metastatic lymph nodes (LN) (p = 0.002; p less then 0.001, respectively) in interim analysis were significantly higher among patients who achieved complete response (CR) than among those who did not. OS was significantly longer among patients who showed ≥30% interim reduction in the area and maximal diameter of the primary lesion and among those who showed such reduction in both the primary lesion and LN. PFS was significantly longer in the patients with ≥30% interim reduction in the area of the primary lesion. In addition, the proportion of cases with locoregional failure began decreasing at interim response of 20% or higher, while the proportion of cases with outfield failure followed the opposite pattern, increasing at interim response of 20% or higher. Among patients treated with dCRT for LAESCC, interim response assessed using adaptive CT images correlated with overall CR and OS rates. The evaluation of tumor burden reduction during dCRT may help predict patient prognosis.

Cyclic stability was tested by performing 30,000 galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) cycles and the electrode exhibited 65% capacitance retention, showing its excellent electrochemical performance and ultra-long cycle life. The excellent electrochemical electrode properties are attributed to the unique processing technique, optimum processing parameters, improved conductivity due to the presence of rGO, and highly porous morphology which offers a high specific surface area. The novel photonic processing we report allows for high-temperature heating of the precursor films achieved via non-radiative recombination of photogenerated electron holes pairs during irradiation. The longitudinal research method was adopted to collect data through a two-stage questionnaire survey of 1145 Shanghai residents. Results demonstrated that perceived policy effectiveness has a significant and positive impact on attitude, implementation intention, and proenvironmental behavior. This means that proenvironmental behavior tends to appear in people with a high perception of policy effectiveness, positive attitude, and strong implementation intention. Moreover, this study points out for the first time that high waste management knowledge weakens the relationship between perceived policy effectiveness and attitude. For residents with high waste management knowledge, the effect of simple policy publicity is limited. The findings suggest that the government should increase the breadth and depth of policy support and policy publicity to cover the entire waste management process.The study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of interim response evaluation during definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) in predicting overall treatment response and survival of patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (LAESCC). We reviewed 194 consecutive patients treated with dCRT for biopsy-confirmed LAESCC. A total of 51 patients met the inclusion criteria. Interim response was assessed by defining a region of interest in initial and adaptive computed tomography (CT) images and subsequently examined against the overall treatment response assessed three months after dCRT, treatment failure pattern, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) estimates. Reductions in both the area and maximal diameter of the primary lesion (p less then 0.001; p less then 0.001, respectively) and those of the metastatic lymph nodes (LN) (p = 0.002; p less then 0.001, respectively) in interim analysis were significantly higher among patients who achieved complete response (CR) than among those who did not. OS was significantly longer among patients who showed ≥30% interim reduction in the area and maximal diameter of the primary lesion and among those who showed such reduction in both the primary lesion and LN. PFS was significantly longer in the patients with ≥30% interim reduction in the area of the primary lesion. In addition, the proportion of cases with locoregional failure began decreasing at interim response of 20% or higher, while the proportion of cases with outfield failure followed the opposite pattern, increasing at interim response of 20% or higher. Among patients treated with dCRT for LAESCC, interim response assessed using adaptive CT images correlated with overall CR and OS rates. The evaluation of tumor burden reduction during dCRT may help predict patient prognosis.

Questionnaires were given to respondents before and after providing education about risk factors of lung cancer. Respondents were from 42 societies in Bandung. The data obtained were tested by using comparison and correlation test. Results The results showed a significant difference between knowledge and attitudes (P = 0.001). Meanwhile, the action did not change significantly (P > 0.05). Correlation test showed that knowledge and attitude had a correlation of P = 0.001 in the pretest and P = 0.23 (P less then 0.05) in the posttest. Conclusion This research concludes that the level of knowledge and attitudes toward risk factors of lung cancer has increased. Aims and Objectives This study aimed to investigate curcumin as a renoprotector agent against cisplatin nephrotoxicity. Materials and Methods The samples used were curcumin and its nanoparticles formulated using ionic gelation method. The nephrotoxicity was investigated through several parameters such as serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, serum albumin, kidney weight ratio, and histopathology. These parameters were tested on rats and divided into the following four groups normal group, negative control group that administered cisplatin with doses amount of 7 mg/kg body weight (BW) intraperitoneally, nanocurcumin group (cisplatin + nanocurcumin) and curcumin group (cisplatin + curcumin). The agents were administered at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW every day in 9 days before cisplatin administration. The sample of blood serum and kidneys organ were taken 48h after cisplatin administration. Results The negative control group showed a significant increase in serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and kidney weight ratio, whereas it showed a significant decrease in serum albumin. The administration of sample agents showed a significant decrease in serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and kidney weight ratio and an increase in the albumin level as compared to negative control group. Conclusion Nanocurcumin showed significant improvement in kidneys more than curcumin. In contrast, histopathological examination verified the necrosis in negative control group, suggesting the renoprotection effect of nanocurcumin against nephrotoxicity on cisplatin-induced rats. The previous study has shown that the medium concentration and the induction time influenced the production of rhEGF. Aims Therefore, this study was conducted to optimize the induction time and medium concentration for rhEGF extracellular secretion then followed by scale-up production. Settings and Design This experiment was carried out using E. coli BL21 (DE3) which contains pD881 plasmid that carries hEGF and PelB gene. Optimization design of induction time and medium concentration were obtained using Central Composite Design (CCD). Methods and Material The method of study started by the rejuvenation of E. coli culture, extracellular secretion, and optimization in the flask scale then followed by scaled-up production with high-cell density culture in the fermenter. Statistical analysis used The optimization was carried out using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and multi regression analysis. Results This work showed that the multiplication of 1.5-fold medium concentration with induction time 3h after the culture started gave the best result among another condition in this study. Additionally, the rhEGF production in the fermenter scale was identified by SDS-PAGE Tricine and quantified by ELISA, which showed 122.40 μg of the rhEGF per milliliter medium. Conclusions In respect of the result, we conclude that the optimized condition of extracellular secretion was successfully obtained, and gives higher result before the previous study.     Denitrifying phosphorus removal sludge (DPRS) is widely adopted for nitrogen and phosphorus removal in wastewater treatment but faces threats from heavy metals. However, a lack of understanding of the taxon-specific heavy metal-resistance mechanisms hinders the targeted optimization of DPRS's robustness in nutrient removal.

    We obtained 403 high- or medium-quality metagenome-assembled genomes from DPRS treated by elevating cadmium, nickel, and chromium pressure. Then, the proteomic responses of individual taxa under heavy metal pressures were characterized, with an emphasis on functions involving heavy metal resistance and maintenance of nutrient metabolism. When oxygen availability was constrained by high-concentration heavy metals, comammox Nitrospira overproduced highly oxygen-affinitive hemoglobin and electron-transporting cytochrome c-like proteins, underpinning its ability to enhance oxygen acquisition and utilization. In contrast, Nitrosomonas overexpressed ammonia monooxygenase and nitrite reductasus between different taxa. These findings provide a fundamental understanding of how the heterogeneity of individual microorganisms contributes to the metabolic versatility and robustness of microbiomes inhabiting dynamic environments, which is vital for manipulating the adaptation of microbial assemblages under adverse environmental stimuli.     Pita is required for Drosophila development and binds specifically to a long motif in active promoters and insulators. Pita belongs to the Drosophila family of zinc-finger architectural proteins, which also includes Su(Hw) and the conserved among higher eukaryotes CTCF. The architectural proteins maintain the active state of regulatory elements and the long-distance interactions between them. In particular, Pita is involved in the formation of several boundaries between regulatory domains that controlled the expression of three hox genes in the Bithorax complex (BX-C). The CP190 protein is recruited to chromatin through interaction with the architectural proteins.

    Using in vitro pull-down analysis, we precisely mapped two unstructured regions of Pita that interact with the BTB domain of CP190. Then we constructed transgenic lines expressing the Pita protein of the wild-type and mutant variants lacking CP190-interacting regions. We have demonstrated that CP190-interacting region of the Pita can maintain nucleosome-free open chromatin and is critical for Pita-mediated enhancer blocking activity in BX-C. At the same time, interaction with CP190 is not required for the in vivo function of the mutant Pita protein, which binds to the same regions of the genome as the wild-type protein. Unexpectedly, we found that CP190 was still associated with the most of genome regions bound by the mutant Pita protein, which suggested that other architectural proteins were continuing to recruit CP190 to these regions.

    Missing data can complicate the interpretability of a clinical trial, especially if the proportion is substantial and if there are different, potentially outcome-dependent causes.

    We aimed to obtain unbiased estimates, in the presence of a high level of missing data, for the intervention effects in a prodromal Alzheimer's disease trial the LipiDiDiet study. We used a competing risk joint model that can simultaneously model each patient's longitudinal outcome trajectory in combination with the timing and type of missingness.

    Using the competing risk joint model, we were able to provide unbiased estimates of the intervention effects in the presence of the different types of missingness. For the LipiDiDiet study, the intervention effects remained statistically significant after this correction for the timing and type of missingness.

    Missing data is a common problem in (Alzheimer) clinical trials. It is important to realize that statistical techniques make specific assumptions about the missing data mechanisms. When there are different missing data sources, a competing risk joint model is a powerful method because it can explicitly model the association between the longitudinal data and each type of missingness.

    Giant cell arteritis (GCA) may lead to vision loss. To what extent tocilizumab (TCZ) is able to prevent vision loss is unknown. The aim was to analyze the occurrence of vision loss in a large GCA cohort treated with TCZ.

    In this observational monocentric study, GCA patients treated with TCZ between the years 2010 and 2018 were studied. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were analyzed.

While previous study has highlighted differences in patient desire for spiritual assessment based on patient religiosity, little is known about patient desire for spiritual assessment based on community type, particularly in urban compared to rural communities. We hypothesized that, given demographic trends which show a higher degree of religiosity in rural areas, patients in rural communities will be more likely to desire spiritual assessment.

    In this cross-sectional study of 141 adult primary care patients in rural and urban Colorado at non-religiously affiliated clinics, we surveyed patient demographic information, measures of religiosity, patient desire for spiritual assessment, and frequency of spiritual assessment in practice. Univariate logistic regression analyses were used to compare the two populations.

    Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) is a contagious pathogen of bovine mastitis. It has financial implications for the dairy cattle industry in certain areas of the world. Since antimicrobial resistance increases in dairy farms, natural antimicrobials from herbal origins and nanoparticles have been given more attention as an alternative therapy. Hence, this study reported the antimicrobial and antibiofilm potentials of cinnamon oil, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and their combination against multidrug-resistant (MDR) S. agalactiae recovered from clinical bovine mastitis in Egypt.

    Our findings revealed that 73% (146/200) of the examined milk samples collected from dairy cows with clinical mastitis were infected with Streptococci species. Of these, 9.59% (14/146) were identified as S. agalactiae and categorized as MDR. S. agalactiae isolates expressed four virulence genes (Hyl, cylE, scpB, and lmb) and demonstrated an ability to produce biofilms. Cinnamon oil showed high antimicrobial (**** ≤0.063 μg /and the inhibitory activity of cinnamon oil and its combination with AgNPs against MDR S. agalactiae recovered from clinical mastitis.     Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common condition that is often associated with chronic pain. Pain often leads patients to seek healthcare advice and treatment. In this retrospective cohort analysis of German longitudinal healthcare claims data, we aimed to explore the healthcare resource utilisation (HRU) and related healthcare costs for patients with OA who develop chronic pain.

    Patient-level data was extracted from the German Institut für Angewandte Gesundheitsforschung (InGef) database. Insured persons (≥18 years) were indexed between January 2015 and December 2017 with a recent (none in the last 2 years) diagnosis of OA. HRU and costs were compared between patients categorised as with (identified via diagnosis or opioid prescription) and without chronic pain. Unweighted HRU (outpatient physician contacts, hospitalisations, prescriptions for physical therapy or psychotherapy, and incapacity to work) and healthcare costs (medication, medical aid/remedy, psychotherapy, inpatient and outpatient and sick pay in E chronic pain and OA have higher healthcare costs and HRU than those with OA alone. Our findings suggest the need for better prevention and treatment of OA in order to reduce the incidence of chronic pain, and the resultant increase in disease burden experienced by patients.

Their genomic profile, genetic origin, and clinical management remain controversial. PATIENTS AND METHODS Resected ASC and metastatic tumor in regional lymph nodes (LNs) were collected. The ACC and SCCC were separated by microdissection of primary tumor. The 1021 cancer-related genes were evaluated by next-generation sequencing independently in ACC and SCCC and LNs. Shared and private alterations in the two components were investigated. In addition, genomic profiles of independent cohorts of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas were examined for comparison. We have also carried out a retrospective study of ASCs with known EGFR mutation status from 11 hospitals in China for their clinical outcomes. RESULTS The most frequent alterations in 28 surgically resected ASCs include EGFR (79%), TP53 (68%), MAP3K1 (14%) mutations, GFR TKI. Our population for this research study focused on the geriatric community owing to the lack of recent available normative data. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The purpose of this study was to provide updated normative data for hand therapists to use in clinical practice to determine if seniors have dexterity deficits. STUDY DESIGN This is a cohort study. METHODS This study was completed through a convenience sample which included 128 participants. Participants were stratified into three age groups (60-69, 70-79, and 80+). Participants were asked to complete the Purdue Pegboard Test. Mean scores were analyzed using an independent-sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance to compare the mean scores of each designated age group. RESULTS A one-way analysis of variance reported statistically significant differences between the 3 age groups (F = 15.03, P  less then  .00). The results supported that those individuals who were younger (60-69) scored better on the assessment than those aged 80+ years. There was not a statistically significant difference between PPT mean scores of males and females. DISCUSSION Mean scores for the PPT for community-dwelling seniors were established. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY This study describes the management NBPP in the first 3 years of life and to develop an assessment framework for infants with NBPP and postoperative guidelines for those undergoing primary surgery. METHODS Retrospective medical record audit from 2012 to 2017. RESULTS Of 187 children referred to brachial plexus clinic (BPC), 138 were new referrals and included in the audit. The average number of new referrals per annum was 37; average age at referral was 6.61 week; average age at first appointment was 16.9 weeks. Of the 138 infants, 104 were initially assessed by a physiotherapist before attending BPC. The most common comorbidity was plagiocephaly. DISCUSSION From 2012 to 2017, birth location, birth facility, referral source, and time between referral and initial assessment have remained stable. The age at referral, age at which the child was first assessed, and the number of children who received services externally before attending the hospital all decreased. The number of children seen by a physiotherapist before attending ****increased. An NBPP assessment framework, including critical time points for assessment, and postoperative guidelines for infants and children undergoing primary surgery were created. CONCLUSIONS Early referral is essential for effective management of NBPP and ideally infants should be assessed and management implemented before 3 months of age. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of mCIMT and conventional therapy in improving active range of motion (ROM) and functional use of the affected upper extremity in children with PBPP with injuries to upper and middle trunks in the hospital environment. MATERIALS 26 patients received conventional rehabilitation program (control group) and 13 patients participated in a mCIMT program (study group). Children had a mean age 56.3 months (range 4-10 years). The mCIMT included 1 hour therapy sessions emphasizing the affected arm use for 14 consecutive days during hospitalization. Their normal arm was also constrained for 6 hour per day. All the patients were assessed at the baseline, one day, one month, and three months after completion of therapy using active ROM, active movement scale, hand dynamometer, box and blocks test.

MATERIALS 26 patients received conventional rehabilitation program (control group) and 13 patients participated in a mCIMT program (study group). Children had a mean age 56.3 months (range 4-10 years). The mCIMT included 1 hour therapy sessions emphasizing the affected arm use for 14 consecutive days during hospitalization. Their normal arm was also constrained for 6 hour per day. All the patients were assessed at the baseline, one day, one month, and three months after completion of therapy using active ROM, active movement scale, hand dynamometer, box and blocks test.
