BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cognitive impairment occurs frequently in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the prevalence and clinical characteristics of cognitive MS phenotype are not well established. The aim of the study was to characterize the clinical course and neurocognitive impairment of patients with MS meeting an Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS)-defined cognitive phenotype. METHODS A total of 2302 patients from the Comprehensive Longitudinal Investigation of Multiple Sclerosis at Brigham and Women's Hospital (CLIMB) study were studied. Predominant cognitive MS phenotype was defined as EDSS Cerebral Functional System (FS) subscore ≥3 and remaining EDSS FS subscores ≤2 on at least one clinical visit. Demographic/clinical characteristics, phenotype stability and neurocognitive domain impairment of these subjects were assessed. RESULTS A total of 60 of 2302 (2.6%) patients (age 52.8 ± 10.8 years, 68% female, 82% relapsing MS) met criteria for phenotype designation. The recently discovered 2D layered ferroelectric materials, combining with the advantages of van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs), may be promising to fabricate high-quality FeFETs with atomically thin thickness. Here, dual-gated 2D ferroelectric vdWHs are constructed using MoS2 , hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), and CuInP2 S6 (CIPS), which act as a high-performance nonvolatile memory and programmable rectifier. It is first noted that the insertion of h-BN and dual-gated coupling device configuration can significantly stabilize and effectively polarize ferroelectric CIPS. Through this design, the device shows a record-high performance with a large memory window, large on/off ratio (107 ), ultralow programming state current (10-13 A), and long-time endurance (104 s) as nonvolatile memory. As for programmable rectifier, a wide range of gate-tunable rectification behavior is observed. Moreover, the device exhibits a large rectification ratio (3 × 105 ) with stable retention under the programming state. The ability to pattern OCCs on solid substrates with high spatial precision and molecularly defined structure is essential to interface electronics and advance their quantum applications. Herein, a lithographic generation of OCCs on solid-state semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube films at spatially defined locations is presented. By using light-driven diazoether chemistry, it is possible to directly pattern p-nitroaryl OCCs, which demonstrate chemically specific spectral signatures at programmed positions as confirmed by Raman mapping and hyperspectral photoluminescence imaging. This light-driven technique enables the fabrication of OCC arrays on solid films that fluoresce in the shortwave infrared and presents an important step toward the direct writing of quantum emitters and other functionalities at the molecular level. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Comparisons of high-density single nucleotide polymorphism genotypes for 6,566 invasive feral ***** to a comprehensive reference set of S. scrofa revealed that the vast majority of feral ***** were of mixed ancestry, with dominant genetic associations to Western heritage breeds of domestic pig and European populations of wild boar. Further, the rapid expansion of invasive feral ***** over the past 30 years was attributable to secondary introductions from established populations of admixed ancestry as opposed to direct introductions of domestic breeds or wild boar.

To assess the outcome of cataract surgery in patients with uveitis without the use of prophylactic high dose (> 5-10 mg/day) systemic steroid.
A hospital based prospective study enrolling 64 eyes of 60 patients with uveitis and cataract from May 2013 to April 2014 having intraocular inflammation under control for at least 3 months preoperatively and underwent phacoemulsification with in bag placement of foldable acrylic intraocular lens (IOL).
Twenty six male and 34 female were included with mean age of 47.23 ± 16.85SD (16-85) years. In 43.75 % of eyes the uveitis was idiopathic followed by sarcoiduveitis (18.7%), Herpetic uveitis (15.6%), Tubercular uveitis (6.2%), VKH (4.6%), HLAB 27(4.6%), Behcet's, endogenous endophthalmitis, Wegener's granulomatosis and lepromatous uveitis (1.5% each). Anterior chamber cell count was grade 1+ in 33 eyes (51.56%) on 1st post-operative day and in 29 eyes (45.31%) on second follow up. Out of total 11 eyes (17.18%) that developed fibrin, 7 eyes were treated with subconjunctival injection of dexamethasone with half hourly topical steroid drops. Other 4 eyes that developed fibrin responded to half hourly topical steroid. Dose of oralprednisolone increased in 6 patients in early post operative duration. At the final follow up, 50 eyes (92.58% ) had improvement in best corrected visual acuity and cystoidmacular edema (CME) in 5% (n=3) eyes.

Lens induced glaucoma due to hypermature cataracts is an important cause of secondary glaucoma in the developing world. The most common etiology of lens induced glaucoma is phacomorphic glaucoma from untreated senile cataract.
To study the demographics, clinical presentations and surgical outcome of lens induced glaucoma (LIG).
It is the prospective case series of fifty three patients eyes with LIG over a 6 months period from June 2015 to November 2015. All cases of lens induced glaucoma underwent cataract surgery. Data including demographics, clinical presentations, surgical outcome were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Studies 20.0.
The mean age was 61.5 years (Standard deviation 8.9) with predominantly women (30, 56.6%) were affected. Phacomorphic glaucoma (38, 71.7%) was the main cause of lens induced glaucoma, followed by phacolytic glaucoma (15, 28.3%). The main clinical symptoms were reduced vision (100%), eye pain (96.2%) and redness of eyes (62.3%). All patients (100%) presented with visual acuity of <3/60 or worse and intraocular pressure (IOP) more than 40 mm Hg (34, 64.2%). All 53(100%) patients underwent cataract surgery and all of them had tremendously reduced intraocular pressure with a mean 13.9 mmHg and vision had improved from >6/18 as noted in 16(30.2%) cases.

Keratoconus (KC), is a bilateral, noninflammatory degenerative disease of the cornea which is characterized by progressive corneal ectasia and loss of visual function. The onset of KC is commonly seen at puberty and affects approximately 1 in 2000 in the general population.
The aim of this study was to assess the clinical profile of keratoconus in the tertiary eye centre in Nepal.
It is a retrospective, hospital based, consecutive study from June 2017 to May 2018. A total of 66 patients (114 eyes) were diagnosed cases of Keratoconus presented in Cornea clinic of Tilganga institute of Ophthalmology. Parameters investigated included patients' demography, keratometric readings, visualacuity and manifest refraction. Classification of keratoconus was based on Amslern-Krumeich grading system (modified).

This hospital based, cross sectional descriptive study was conducted in Tribhuvan University, Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, Nepal and Geta Eye Hospital, Kailali from 2010 to 2015. Diagnosed cases of pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis with HIV co infection were evaluated for ocular manifestations after excluding other opportunistic infections.
Of 70 cases eligible for the study, extra pulmonary tuberculosis was seen in60% of the cases. 5 patients (7.1 %) had ocular manifestations. CD4 counts were <50/mm3 in 3 cases. Ocular involvement was seen in the form of choroidal granulomas, papillitis, cranial nerve palsy, retinal vasculitis and central serous chorioretinopathy.
This study demonstrated that ocular involvement is a frequent finding in cases with tuberculosis and HIV.

In conclusion, we identified critical domains and amino acid sites that are essential for the LD localization and protein function of HSD17B13, which may facilitate understanding of its function and targeting of this protein to treat chronic liver diseases.Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1), the most common muscular dystrophy in adults, is an autosomal dominant disorder with a wide phenotypic spectrum ranging from oligosymptomatic forms to a life-threatening, multisystem disease. People with DM1 overall have a reduced life expectancy, mainly due to respiratory or cardiac causes. There is no cure but prompt, appropriate symptom management is essential to limit disease-related complications. We present a case of DM1, unrecognised when the patient presented with recurrent type 2 respiratory failure, and initially misdiagnosed as Guillain-Barré syndrome. This misdiagnosis subsequently led to unnecessary investigation and treatment before further detailed neurological examination and collateral family history gave the diagnosis. This case highlights the importance of considering a chronic neuromuscular disorder in patients presenting with acute respiratory failure and an unusual pattern of weakness.Amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) imaging enables in vivo detection of brain Aβ deposition, one of the neuropathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. People with DM1 overall have a reduced life expectancy, mainly due to respiratory or cardiac causes. There is no cure but prompt, appropriate symptom management is essential to limit disease-related complications. We present a case of DM1, unrecognised when the patient presented with recurrent type 2 respiratory failure, and initially misdiagnosed as Guillain-Barré syndrome. This misdiagnosis subsequently led to unnecessary investigation and treatment before further detailed neurological examination and collateral family history gave the diagnosis. This case highlights the importance of considering a chronic neuromuscular disorder in patients presenting with acute respiratory failure and an unusual pattern of weakness.Amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) imaging enables in vivo detection of brain Aβ deposition, one of the neuropathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. Uncovering molecular basis with regard to the conformational change of two switches I and II in the GppNHp (GNP)-bound H-Ras is highly significant for the understanding of Ras signaling. For this purpose, accelerated molecular dynamics (aMD) simulations and principal component (PC) analysis are integrated to probe the effect of mutations G12V, T35S and Q61K on conformational transformation between two switches of the GNP-bound H-Ras. The RMSF and cross-correlation analyses suggest that three mutations exert a vital effect on the flexibility and internal dynamics of two switches in the GNP-bound H-Ras. The results stemming from PC analysis indicate that two switches in the GNP-bound WT H-Ras tend to form a closed state in most conformations, while those in the GNP-bound mutated H-Ras display transformation between different states. This conclusion is further supported by free energy landscapes constructed by using the distances of residues 12 away from 35 and 35 away from 61 as reaction coordinates and different experimental studies. Interaction scanning is performed on aMD trajectories and the information shows that conformational transformations of two switches I and II induced by mutations extremely affect the GNP-residue interactions. Meanwhile, the scanning results also signify that residues G15, A18, F28, K117, A146 and K147 form stable contacts with GNP, while residues D30, E31, Y32, D33, P34 and E62 in two switches I and II produce unstable contacts with GNP. This study not only reveals dynamic behavior changes of two switches in H-Ras induced by mutations, but also unveils general principles and mechanisms with regard to functional conformational changes of H-Ras.Post-functionalization of Class I type polyoxometalate-organic hybrids through covalent modification of the organic counter ions in a step-wise and controlled manner is reported for the first time. The system is a test bed for gas sensors of different principal technologies distributed within three compartments, which share a compact, very low volume, temperature-controlled sensing chamber. Here, the eNose-based analyser contains three sensing arrays of commercially available semiconducting metal oxide (MOX) gas sensors one compartment contains 8 analog MOX sensors, while the other two compartments comprise 10 digital MOX sensors. The presented instrument is explicitly tested for the discrimination between mid-range (3-18 ppm) concentrations of different volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including acetaldehyde, acetone, ethanol, ethyl acetate, isoprene and n-pentane under dry and humid conditions, which are all considered relevant gases in future breath diagnostic applications. Since the experiments were performed in periods of time separated by around 20 days, they are affected by drift. For this reason, we explore the opportunity of drift mitigation using methods based on component removal computed by linear discriminant analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis and direct orthogonalization, which lend themselves to future in-field applications of the developed device and sensing methodology.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can cause adverse consequences to both mothers and their newborns. However, pregnant women living in low- and middle-income areas or countries often fail to receive early clinical interventions at local medical facilities due to restricted availability of GDM diagnosis. The outstanding performance of artificial intelligence (AI) in disease diagnosis in previous studies demonstrates its promising applications in GDM diagnosis.

Imaging modalities such as computed tomography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and molecular imaging are being used to evaluate for disease in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients. Here, we review novel imaging strategies to detect organ and vascular complications of SSc and novel imaging techniques for assessing interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension in other conditions that may have further applicability to SSc.
Imaging techniques can be used to identify disease in the lungs, pulmonary vascular system, heart, skin, vascular tissue, and gastrointestinal tract of SSc patients. These show promise in detecting early disease, many without the use of ionizing radiation. Novel imaging techniques in patients with SSc can be used to detect disease in multiple susceptible organs. These imaging strategies have potential for early disease detection, as well as potential for incorporation into clinical trials to accelerate the development of SSc therapies.

IBD comprises two main entities ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Several studies showed increased risk of cardiovascular complications in chronic inflammatory disorders, especially during IBD relapses. Endothelium plays a role in physiologic regulation of vascular tone, cell adhesion, migration and resistance to thrombosis. Also, its dysfunction is associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis development. There are several potential links between chronic IBD-related inflammatory processes and the risk of cardiovascular disease, but insight into pathogenetic pathways remains unclear. We present the current concepts and review of adult and pediatric studies on the risk of CVD in IBD.Airflow obstruction in people with asthma, similar to COPD, may interfere with swallowing, increasing the risk of food or liquid entrance into the lower airways, and favoring the uncontrolled disease. To describe the complaints and findings of the oropharyngeal swallowing mechanisms in patients with mild and severe asthma, a cross-sectional study was performed. A total of 135 participants with asthma were studied, of whom 97 had severe asthma and 38 had mild asthma. All subjects answered a questionnaire with demographic information, disease exacerbations, Asthma Control Questionnaire 6 (ACQ6-Juniper 1999), GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease Symptoms Questionnaire (GERD-SQ-Fornari et al. 2004), and Eating Assessment Tool 10 (EAT-10-Gonçalves et al., 2013). The oral and pharyngeal swallowing assessment occurred via videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluation. The age range of the participants was from 19 to 80 years, with a predominance of females (78.6%). Uncontrolled asthma was observed in 50 (52%) of the patients wal tongue movement maintained a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Oropharyngeal swallowing alternations were frequent in the studied sample and more markedly present in patients with severe asthma. Multivariate regression revealed atypical lingual movement, which was greater in patients with severe asthma. Among various processes such as steam reforming, electrolysis, biophotolysis of water and anaerobic fermentation, anaerobic fermentation technique is environmentally friendly and requires less external energy, making it a preferred process for H2 generation. Dark fermentation process can use wide range of substrates including agricultural and industrial starchy waste with low level of undesirable compounds. Application of both anaerobic dark and photofermentation can improve H2 yield and production rate. H2 production from wastes containing starch serves dual benefit of waste reduction and energy generation. As starch is a polymer and all hydrogen-producing bacteria cannot produce amylase to hydrolyze it, a pretreatment step is required to convert starch into glucose and maltose. We report a case of oligodendroglioma that acquired imbalanced 1p/19q codeletion and TP53 mutation at recurrence after temozolomide therapy. The primary and recurrent tumors shared IDH1 and TERT promoter mutations. Although 1p/19q was codeleted in the primary tumor, it was imbalanced in the recurrent tumor harboring TP53 mutation. The copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity might have imbalanced the 1p/19q codeletion, while temozolomide therapy possibly caused the TP53 mutation. Such phenomena, although rare, should be noted during the clinical treatment of oligodendrogliomas.
Imaging modalities such as computed tomography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and molecular imaging are being used to evaluate for disease in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients. Here, we review novel imaging strategies to detect organ and vascular complications of SSc and novel imaging techniques for assessing interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension in other conditions that may have further applicability to SSc. Imaging techniques can be used to identify disease in the lungs, pulmonary vascular system, heart, skin, vascular tissue, and gastrointestinal tract of SSc patients. These show promise in detecting early disease, many without the use of ionizing radiation. Novel imaging techniques in patients with SSc can be used to detect disease in multiple susceptible organs. Also, its dysfunction is associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis development. A total of 135 participants with asthma were studied, of whom 97 had severe asthma and 38 had mild asthma. All subjects answered a questionnaire with demographic information, disease exacerbations, Asthma Control Questionnaire 6 (ACQ6-Juniper 1999), GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease Symptoms Questionnaire (GERD-SQ-Fornari et al. 2004), and Eating Assessment Tool 10 (EAT-10-Gonçalves et al., 2013). The oral and pharyngeal swallowing assessment occurred via videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluation. The age range of the participants was from 19 to 80 years, with a predominance of females (78.6%). Uncontrolled asthma was observed in 50 (52%) of the patients wal tongue movement maintained a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Oropharyngeal swallowing alternations were frequent in the studied sample and more markedly present in patients with severe asthma. Multivariate regression revealed atypical lingual movement, which was greater in patients with severe asthma. Among various processes such as steam reforming, electrolysis, biophotolysis of water and anaerobic fermentation, anaerobic fermentation technique is environmentally friendly and requires less external energy, making it a preferred process for H2 generation. Dark fermentation process can use wide range of substrates including agricultural and industrial starchy waste with low level of undesirable compounds. Application of both anaerobic dark and photofermentation can improve H2 yield and production rate. H2 production from wastes containing starch serves dual benefit of waste reduction and energy generation. HIV continues to be the main determinant morbidity with high mortality rates in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a high number of patients being late presenters with advanced HIV. Clinical management of advanced HIV patients is thus complex and requires strict adherence to updated, empirical and simplified guidelines. The current study investigated the impact of the implementation of a new clinical guideline on the management of advanced HIV in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
A retrospective analysis of routine clinical data of advanced HIV patients was conducted for the periods; February 2016 to March 2017, before implementation of new guidelines, and November 2017 to July 2018, after the implementation of new guidelines. Eligible patients were patients with CD4 < 200 cell/μl and presenting with at least 1 of 4 opportunistic infections. Patient files were reviewed by a medical doctor and a committee of 3 other doctors for congruence. Statistical significance was set at 0.05%.

Our purpose was to document the swept source optical coherence tomography (SSOCT) findings in a patient with Shaken baby syndrome (SBS).
SSOCT was obtained without sedation in a six-month-old girl with bilateral multilayered retinal hemorrhages due to SBS. It documented vitreoretinal interface abnormalities, including internal limiting membrane (ILM) detachment with retinal traction, in association with other specific changes in the inner and outer retinal layers. Six weeks later, retinal hemorrhages had substantially resolved, and there was optic disc pallor. OCT showed ILM reattachment with release of retinal traction and the development of severe diffuse retinal atrophy involving the fovea.
SS OCT can provide useful information in SBS, revealing a wide variety of vitreoretinal interface, inner, and outer retinal changes not detected by clinical examination. It also may have a prognostic value over follow-up.

Patients continue to suffer from medically unexplained symptoms otherwise referred to as persistent physical symptoms (PPS). General practitioners (GPs) play a key role in the management of PPS and require further training. Patients are often frustrated with the care they receive. This study aims to assess the acceptability of an 'integrated GP care' approach which consists of offering self-help materials to patients with PPS and offering their GPs training on how to utilise cognitive behavioural skills within their consultations, as well as assessing the feasibility of conducting a future trial in primary care to evaluate its benefit.
A feasibility cluster randomised controlled trial was conducted in primary care, South London, UK. GP practices (clusters) were randomly allocated to 'integrated GP care plus treatment as usual' or 'treatment as usual'. Patients with PPS were recruited from participating GP practices before randomisation. Feasibility parameters, process variables and potential outcome measused. The intervention was relatively low cost and low risk. This complex intervention should be further developed to improve patients'/GPs' utilisation of audio/visual and training resources before proceeding to a full trial evaluation.

The incidence of Lyme disease (LD) in North America has increased substantially in the past two decades. Concomitant with the increased incidence of infection has beenan enhancement in therecognition of LD complications. Here, we report a case of Lyme carditis complicated by heart block in a pediatric patient admitted to our children's hospital. What is unique about this case is that the complaint of chest palpitations is an infrequent presentation of LD, and what it adds to the scientific literature is an improved understanding of LD in the pediatric population.
The patient was a 16-year-old male who presented with the main concerns of acute onset of palpitations and chest pain. An important clinical finding was Erythema migrans (EM) on physical exam. The primary diagnoses were LD with associated Lyme carditis, based on the finding of 1st degree atrioventricular heart block (AVB) and positive IgM and IgG antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi. Interventions included echocardiography, electrocardiography (EKGibiotic administration, although pacemaker placement should be considered if the PR interval fails to normalize or if higher degrees of heart block, with accompanying symptoms, are encountered. With the rising incidence of LD, providers must maintain a high level of suspicion in order to promptly diagnose and treat Lyme carditis.
Adolescent sexual debut and non-consensual sex have been linked to higher sexual risk and STI infection in adulthood among men who have sex with men (MSM) in high-income countries. This study aimed to examine adolescent and non-consensual anal sexual debut among Chinese MSM and to evaluate factors associated with adolescent sexual debut and non-consensual anal sex.
A cross-sectional study was conducted recently among Chinese men assigned male sex at birth, ≥18 years old, and who had ever engaged in anal sex with a man. Participants answered questions regarding socio-demographics, condomless sex, age at anal sexual debut with a man, and whether the first anal sex was consensual. In this retrospective cohort study, we implemented an opioid-sparing protocol in January 2018, for patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) at our institution. We compared recovery time, pain scores (in hospital and at home), and perioperative opioid use between the historic control group (February 2017 to December 2017) and the opioid-sparing group (January 2018 to December 2018). A p value of < .05 was considered statistically significant.
The study included 400 patients (200 in each group), and 165 participated in the phone survey. Baseline characteristics were similar, except the control group had a higher body mass index and body weight. The average recovery time was significantly shorter in the opioid-sparing group (18.9 versus 35.3days, P= .043). There was no significant difference in mean postoperative pain scores in the hospital or at home. The opioid-sparing group required significantly fewer opioids postoperatively (10.4 versus 16.1 morphine milligram equivalents, P< .001). Only 1 out of the 200 patients in the opioid-sparing arm requested an opioid prescription after discharge.

To uncover these, an in silico analysis of the interactions between the coat protein (CP) of Sesbania mosaic virus (SeMV), a group IV virus with single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome was carried out with the known crystal structures of proteins belonging to the Fabaceae family, which is its natural host. SeMV is an isometric plant virus which infects Sesbania grandiflora, a member of Fabaceae, and causes mosaic symptoms. Earlier results have indicated that the assembly and disassembly events of SeMV favor the formation of CP dimers. Hence, the ability and strength of interactions of CP dimer with the host proteins were assessed using in silico protein-protein docking approaches. A set of 61 unique crystal structures of native proteins belonging to Fabaceae were downloaded from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and docked with the CP dimer of SeMV. From the docking scores and interaction analysis, the host proteins were ranked according to their strength and significance of interactions with the CP dimers. The leads that were identified present themselves as strong candidates for developing antivirals against not only SeMV but also other related viruses that infect Fabaceae. The study is a prototype to understand host protein interactions in viruses and hosts.Negeviruses are insect-specific enveloped RNA viruses that have been detected in mosquitoes and sandflies from various geographical locations. Here, we describe a new negevirus from Northern Europe, isolated from pool of Aedes vexans mosquitoes collected in Finland, designated as Mekrijärvi negevirus (MEJNV). MEJNV had a typical negevirus genome organization, is 9,740 nucleotides in length, and has a GC content of 47.53%. The MEJNV genome contains three ORFs, each containing the following identified conserved domains ORF1 (7,068 nt) encodes a viral methyltransferase, an FtsJ-like methyltransferase, a viral RNA helicase, and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, ORF2 (1,242 nt) encodes a putative virion glycoprotein, and ORF3 (660 nt) encodes a putative virion membrane protein. A distinctive feature relative to other currently known negeviruses is a 7-nucleotide-long overlap between ORF1 and ORF2. MEJNV shares the highest sequence identity with Ying Kou virus from China, with 67.71% nucleotide and 75.19% and 59.00% amino acid sequence identity in ORF 1 and ORF 2, respectively. ORF3 had the highest amino acid sequence similarity to Daeseongdong virus 1 and negevirus Nona 1, both with 77.61% identity, and to Ying Kou virus, with 71.22% identity. MEJNV is currently the northernmost negevirus described. Our report supports the view that negeviruses are a globally distributed, diverse group of viruses that can be found from mosquitoes in a wide range of terrestrial biomes from tropical to boreal forests.Two and three genotypes of enterovirus G (EV-G) carrying a papain-like cysteine protease (PL-CP) sequence were detected on two pig farms and classified into genotypes G1 and G10, and G1, G8, and G17, respectively, based on VP1 sequences. The clinical utility of the construct of food addiction has been heavily debated. Though food addiction has been associated with psychosocial impairment in clinical samples, it is critical to examine these associations in non-clinical samples, to obtain unbiased evidence regarding this phenomenon's clinical significance. It is also unknown which types of impairment are most common in food addiction. This observational study explored the association of self-reported food addiction with impairment in the domains of social, cognitive, and emotional functioning.
Participants (356 university students and 544 adults recruited through Mechanical Turk) completed the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0 and Clinical Impairment Assessment 3.0 questionnaire, as well as measures of emotional eating, reward-driven eating, binge eating, and general disordered eating.
Food addiction scores showed large correlations with emotional (r = 0.55, 0.57), social (r = 0.56, 0.59), and cognitive impairment (r = 0.58, 0.53) in the student and Mechanical Turk samples, respectively.

SeMV is an isometric plant virus which infects Sesbania grandiflora, a member of Fabaceae, and causes mosaic symptoms. Earlier results have indicated that the assembly and disassembly events of SeMV favor the formation of CP dimers. Hence, the ability and strength of interactions of CP dimer with the host proteins were assessed using in silico protein-protein docking approaches. A set of 61 unique crystal structures of native proteins belonging to Fabaceae were downloaded from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and docked with the CP dimer of SeMV. From the docking scores and interaction analysis, the host proteins were ranked according to their strength and significance of interactions with the CP dimers. The leads that were identified present themselves as strong candidates for developing antivirals against not only SeMV but also other related viruses that infect Fabaceae. The study is a prototype to understand host protein interactions in viruses and hosts.Negeviruses are insect-specific enveloped RNA viruses that have been detected in mosquitoes and sandflies from various geographical locations. Here, we describe a new negevirus from Northern Europe, isolated from pool of Aedes vexans mosquitoes collected in Finland, designated as Mekrijärvi negevirus (MEJNV). MEJNV had a typical negevirus genome organization, is 9,740 nucleotides in length, and has a GC content of 47.53%. The MEJNV genome contains three ORFs, each containing the following identified conserved domains ORF1 (7,068 nt) encodes a viral methyltransferase, an FtsJ-like methyltransferase, a viral RNA helicase, and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, ORF2 (1,242 nt) encodes a putative virion glycoprotein, and ORF3 (660 nt) encodes a putative virion membrane protein. A distinctive feature relative to other currently known negeviruses is a 7-nucleotide-long overlap between ORF1 and ORF2. MEJNV shares the highest sequence identity with Ying Kou virus from China, with 67.71% nucleotide and 75.19% and 59.00% amino acid sequence identity in ORF 1 and ORF 2, respectively. ORF3 had the highest amino acid sequence similarity to Daeseongdong virus 1 and negevirus Nona 1, both with 77.61% identity, and to Ying Kou virus, with 71.22% identity. MEJNV is currently the northernmost negevirus described. Our report supports the view that negeviruses are a globally distributed, diverse group of viruses that can be found from mosquitoes in a wide range of terrestrial biomes from tropical to boreal forests.Two and three genotypes of enterovirus G (EV-G) carrying a papain-like cysteine protease (PL-CP) sequence were detected on two pig farms and classified into genotypes G1 and G10, and G1, G8, and G17, respectively, based on VP1 sequences. A G10 EV-G virus bearing a PL-CP sequence was detected for the first time. Phylogenetic analysis of the P2 and P3 regions grouped the viruses by farm with high sequence similarity. Furthermore, clear recombination break points were detected in the 2A region, suggesting that PL-CP EV-G-containing strains gained sequence diversity through recombination events among the multiple circulating EV-G genotypes on the farms. The clinical utility of the construct of food addiction has been heavily debated. Though food addiction has been associated with psychosocial impairment in clinical samples, it is critical to examine these associations in non-clinical samples, to obtain unbiased evidence regarding this phenomenon's clinical significance. It is also unknown which types of impairment are most common in food addiction. This observational study explored the association of self-reported food addiction with impairment in the domains of social, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Participants (356 university students and 544 adults recruited through Mechanical Turk) completed the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0 and Clinical Impairment Assessment 3.0 questionnaire, as well as measures of emotional eating, reward-driven eating, binge eating, and general disordered eating. Following induction of severe asphyxia, lambs received cardiopulmonary resuscitation using 100% oxygen until ROSC, with oxygen subsequently weaned according to saturation nomograms as per current guidelines. We found that oxygen consumption did not rise following ROSC, but oxygen delivery was markedly elevated until 15 min after ROSC. CrSO2 and heart rate each correlated with oxygen delivery. SaO2 remained > 90% and was less useful for identifying trends in oxygen delivery. CrSO2 correlated inversely with cerebral fractional oxygen extraction. In conclusion, ROSC from perinatal asphyxia is characterised by excess oxygen delivery that is driven by rapid increases in cerebrovascular pressure, flow, and oxygen saturation, and may be monitored non-invasively. Three separate brew temperatures of 87 °C, 90 °C, or 93 °C were tested, adjusting the grind size and overall brew time as necessary to achieve the target TDS and PE. Although the TDS and PE both significantly affected the sensory profile of the coffee, surprisingly the brew temperature had no appreciable impact. We conclude that brew temperature should be considered as only one of several parameters that affect the extraction dynamics, and that ultimately the sensory profile is governed by differences in TDS and PE rather than the brew temperature, at least over the range of temperatures tested.Psychrotrophic Pseudomonas species are the key spoilage bacteria of aerobically stored chilled meat. We quantified and characterized the main components of the matrix of mono-species biofilms of selected Pseudomonas fragi and Pseudomonas lundensis strains using chemical analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The biofilms were grown at 10 °C and 25 °C on nitro-cellulose membranes placed on surface sterilized beef cuts. Extra-cellular polymeric substances of the matrix were extracted in soluble and bound forms and were chemically assessed for total carbohydrates, proteins and extra-cellular DNA. Both Pseudomonas species showed a significant increase in total carbohydrates and total proteins when grown at 10 °C as compared to 25 °C. Extra-cellular DNA did not show a strong correlation with growth temperature. Raman spectra were obtained from planktonic bacteria and membrane grown biofilms at 10 °C and 25 °C. Higher levels of guanine were detected in planktonic cells as compared to biofilm cells. This study suggests that psychrotrophic Pseudomonas species may respond to cold stress by increasing extra-cellular polymer secretions.The remarkable phytogeographic characteristics of the Brazilian savanna (Cerrado) resulted in a vegetation domain composed of plants with high structural and functional diversity to tolerate climate extremes. Here we used a key Cerrado species (Dipteryx alata) to evaluate if species of this domain present a mechanism of stress memory, responding more quickly and efficiently when exposed to recurrent drought episodes. The exposure of D. alata seedlings to drought resulted in several changes, mainly in physiological and biochemical traits, and these changes differed substantially when the water deficit was imposed as an isolated event or when the plants were subjected to drought cycles, suggesting the existence of a drought memory mechanism. Plants submitted to recurrent drought events were able to maintain essential processes for plant survival when compared to those submitted to drought for the first time. This differential acclimation to drought was the result of orchestrated changes in several metabolic pathways, involving differential carbon allocation for defense responses and the reprogramming and coordination of primary, secondary and antioxidant metabolism. The stress memory in D. alata is probably linked the evolutionary history of the species and reflects the environment in which it evolved.Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyroscopes have numerous potential applications including guidance, robotics, tactical-grade navigation, and automotive applications fields. Of all these designed parameters, the structural, magnetic field, and magneto-resistance sensitivity values reach to 21.6 nm/°/s, 0.0023 Oe/nm, and 29.5 mV/Oe, thus, with total sensitivity of 1.47 mV/°/s. Multi-bridge circuit method is employed to suppress external magnetic interference and avoid the integration error of the TMR devices effectively. The proposed tunneling magneto-resistive micro-gyroscope shows a possibility to make an inertial grade MEMS gyroscope in the future.

Occupant behavior in residential buildings has a direct impact on the effectiveness of energy-saving measures. In order to realize a buildings' carbon mitigation targets, the impact of individual occupancy profiles needs to be integrated with building simulation models. This paper introduces a decision support framework as a potential solution to make energy performance upgrade choices based on different occupancy profiles. This framework has been demonstrated through a case study of two single-family detached homes in Canada, which were highly instrumented with sensors for monitoring energy input and output. The case studies represented two common occupancy profiles-(1) a family of four (consisting of 2 working adults and 2 teenagers); and (2) a retired couple. Firstly, calibrated energy models were developed by using one-year energy use data collected through an intrusive load monitoring technique. Secondly, energy upgrade combinations were considered for each profile and tested for additional investment, payback period and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Lastly, the most suitable combination of energy upgrade for each profile was ranked using a multi-criteria decision-making method (e.g., TOPSIS). Results indicated that the retired couple used more energy than the family of four and required energy upgrades with usually higher payback periods to achieve the same level of GHG emission reduction. The results of this research are timely for energy policymaking and developing best management practices, which need to be implemented along with the deployment of more stringent building standards and codes.The increase of the industrialization process brought the growth of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. Electrospinning is gaining notoriety, once it enables to produce polymeric nanofibers with different additives and also the obtaining of small pore sizes and fiber diameters; desirable features for air filtration materials. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the filtration performance of cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibers and cationic surfactant cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) produced by electrospinning technique for retention of aerosol nanoparticles. The pressure drop and collection efficiency measurements of sodium chloride (NaCl) aerosol particles (diameters from 7 to 300 nm) were performed using Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS). The average diameter of the electrospun nanofibers used was 239 nm, ranging from 113 to 398 nm. Experimental results indicated that the nanofibers showed good permeability (10-11 m2) and high-efficiency filtration for aerosol nanoparticles (about 100 %), which can include black carbon (**) and the new coronavirus. The pressure drop was 1.8 kPa at 1.6 cm s-1, which is similar to reported for some high-efficiency nanofiber filters. In addition, it also retains ** particles present in air, which was about 90 % for 375 nm and about 60 % for the 880 nm wavelength. For bioaerosols, roughly 35 % of airborne heterotrophic bacteria (HB) was removed in the low-pH zone (LPZ) while over 30 % of total fungi (TF) was removed in the neutral-pH zone (NPZ). Most bioaerosols removed by the biofilter (BF) had a particle size larger than 4.7 μm while bioaerosols with small particle size were apt to be adsorbed by AZ. The microbial community in the BF changed significantly at different units. This paper proposes a critical review of the state of the art regarding studies on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater and sewage sludge, the factors affecting its inactivation and the main proposed treatments. In-vitro tests demonstrated low resistance of SARS-CoV-2 to high temperature, while even significant changes in pH would not seem to determine the disappearance of the virus. In real wastewater and in sewage sludge, to date studies on the influence of the different parameters on the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 are not available. Therefore, studies involving other HCoVs such as SARS-CoV and HCoV-229E have been also considered, in order to formulate a hypothesis regarding its behaviour in sewage and throughout the steps of biological treatments in WWTPs. Finally, SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater might track the epidemic trends although being extremely promising, an effective and wide application of this approach requires a deeper knowledge of the amounts of viruses excreted through the faeces and the actual detectability of viral RNA in sewage.In the broad sense, the Bayesian networks (BN) are probabilistic graphical models that possess unique methodical features to model dependencies in complex networks, such as forward and backward propagation (inference) of disruptions. BNs have transitioned from an emerging topic to a growing research area in supply chain (SC) resilience and risk analysis. As a result, there is an acute need to review existing literature to ascertain recent developments and uncover future areas of research. Despite the increasing number of publications on BNs in the domain of SC uncertainty, an extensive review on their application to SC risk and resilience is lacking. To address this gap, we analyzed research articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals from 2007 to 2019 using network analysis, visualization-based scientometric analysis, and clustering analysis. Through this study, we contribute to literature by discussing the challenges of current research, and, more importantly, identifying and proposing future research directions.

In-vitro tests demonstrated low resistance of SARS-CoV-2 to high temperature, while even significant changes in pH would not seem to determine the disappearance of the virus. In real wastewater and in sewage sludge, to date studies on the influence of the different parameters on the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 are not available. Therefore, studies involving other HCoVs such as SARS-CoV and HCoV-229E have been also considered, in order to formulate a hypothesis regarding its behaviour in sewage and throughout the steps of biological treatments in WWTPs. Finally, SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater might track the epidemic trends although being extremely promising, an effective and wide application of this approach requires a deeper knowledge of the amounts of viruses excreted through the faeces and the actual detectability of viral RNA in sewage.In the broad sense, the Bayesian networks (BN) are probabilistic graphical models that possess unique methodical features to model dependencies in complex networks, such as forward and backward propagation (inference) of disruptions. BNs have transitioned from an emerging topic to a growing research area in supply chain (SC) resilience and risk analysis. As a result, there is an acute need to review existing literature to ascertain recent developments and uncover future areas of research. Despite the increasing number of publications on BNs in the domain of SC uncertainty, an extensive review on their application to SC risk and resilience is lacking. To address this gap, we analyzed research articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals from 2007 to 2019 using network analysis, visualization-based scientometric analysis, and clustering analysis. It is shown that angular stiffness in the hexagonal lattice model plays a significant role in the geometrical nonlinear terms in the equations of the continuum limit. A geometrically nonlinear discrete model is formulated for the hexagonal lattice by considering the interaction of two sublattices. An asymptotic procedure is developed in order to obtain the nonlinear coupled equations of motion in the continuum limit of the discrete model. An interaction of longitudinal and shear plane strain waves is studied by using the solutions of the obtained equations.A significant step has been made towards understanding the physics of the transient surface current triggered by ejected electrons during the interaction of a short intense laser pulse with a high-conductivity target. Unlike the commonly discussed hypothesis of neutralization current generation as a result of the fast loss of hot electrons to the vacuum, the proposed mechanism is associated with excitation of the fast current by electric polarization due to transition radiation triggered by ejected electrons. We present a corresponding theoretical model and compare it with two simulation models using the finite-difference time-domain and particle-in-cell methods. It is also possible to use them as an input to the coagulation stage, without the need to compute complex cluster generation during the nucleation burst. To clarify the influence of the model ingredients we have compared simulations using (a) the pure Vicsek model (VM) with two boundary conditions (periodic and bouncing ****) and with or without desired direction of motion, (b) the social force model (SFM), and (c) the model (SFM+VM). The study of steady-state particle configurations in the VM with confined geometry shows the expected bands perpendicular to the motion direction, while in the SFM and SFM+VM particles order in stripes of a given width w along the direction of motion. The results in the SFM+VM case show that w(t)≃t^α has a diffusivelike behavior at low noise η (dynamic exponent α≈1/2), while it is subdiffusive at high values of external noise (α less then 1/2). We observe the well-known order-disorder transition in the VM with both boundary conditions, but the application of a desired direction condition inhibits the existence of disorder as expected. Similar behavior is observed in the SFM case. For the SFM+VM case we find a susceptibility maximum which slowly increases with system size as a function of noise strength. Not only does the map provide fast computation of phase synchronization, it also reflects the underlying group structure of the sinusoidally coupled continuous phase dynamics. We study map versions of various known continuous-time collective dynamics, such as the synchronization transition in the Kuramoto-Sakaguchi model of nonidentical oscillators, chimeras in two coupled populations of identical phase oscillators, and Kuramoto-Battogtokh chimeras on a ring, and demonstrate similarities and differences between the iterated map models and their known continuous-time counterparts.We present simulation results on the properties of packings of frictionless spherocylindrical particles. Zateria multiflora boiss essential oil encapsulated into S. cerevisiae yeast may be used as a potential preservative for the food and drug industry. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.The predictive effect of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment is still highly discussed. The primary objective of our study was to investigate a possible prognostic/predictive value of ctDNA under regorafenib treatment. This prospective multicenter translational biomarker phase II pilot study enrolled 30 metastatic CRC patients (67% men, 33% women) treated with regorafenib. ctDNA was assessed in plasma before treatment start and at defined time points during administration. Measurement of tumor fraction as well as mutation and copy number analysis of CRC driver genes were performed by next-generation sequencing approaches. Multivariate analyses for survival and treatment efficacy were adjusted to age, gender and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. Disease control rate was 30%. Median tumor fraction at baseline was 18.5% (0-49.9). Mutations in CRC driver genes or genes involved in angiogenesis were identified in 25 patients (83.3%). KRAS mutations were detected in 13 of 14 KRAS-positive tumors; in three patients without KRAS mutation in the respective tumors, acquired mutations as a consequence of prior anti-EGFR treatment were detected. In a subset of patients, novel occurring mutations or focal amplifications were detected. A tumor fraction of 5% and higher at baseline was significantly associated with a decreased OS (P = .022; hazard ratio 3.110 (95% confidence interval 1.2-8.2). ctDNA is detectable in a high proportion of mCRC patients. Higher ctDNA levels are associated with survival among regorafenib treatment. Moreover, our data highlight the benefit of a combined evaluation of mutations and somatic copy number alterations in advanced cancer patients.We examined the association between established risk factors for breast cancer and microcalcification clusters and their asymmetry. A cohort study of 53 273 Swedish women aged 30 to 80 years, with comprehensive information on breast cancer risk factors and mammograms, was conducted. Total number of microcalcification clusters and the average mammographic density area were measured using a Computer Aided Detection system and the STRATUS method, respectively. A polygenic risk score for breast cancer, including 313 single nucleotide polymorphisms, was calculated for those women genotyped (N = 7387). Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), with adjustment for potential confounders, were estimated. Age was strongly associated with microcalcification clusters. Both high mammographic density (>40 cm2 ), and high polygenic risk score (80-100 percentile) were associated with microcalcification clusters, OR = 2.08 (95% CI = 1.93-2.25) and OR = 1.22 (95% CI = 1.06-1.48), respectively. Among reproductive risk factors, life-time breastfeeding duration >1 year was associated with microcalcification clusters OR = 1.22 (95% CI = 1.03-1.46). The association was confined to postmenopausal women. Among lifestyle risk factors, women with a body mass index ≥30 kg/m2 had the lowest risk of microcalcification clusters OR = 0.79 (95% CI = 0.73-0.85) and the association was stronger among premenopausal women. Our results suggest that age, mammographic density, genetic predictors of breast cancer, having more than two children, longer duration of breast-feeding are significantly associated with increased risk of microcalcification clusters. However, most lifestyle risk factors for breast cancer seem to protect against presence of microcalcification clusters. More research is needed to study biological mechanisms behind microcalcifications formation.
Patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection may be at an increased risk for morbidity and mortality from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We present the clinical outcomes of HIV patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in a matched comparison with historical controls.

A one-to-one propensity matching identified 23 COVID-19 patients who served as a control group. In both pre- and post-match cohorts, survival between HIV and control groups were comparable.

Despite this success, effective vaccines to prevent many high-burden diseases, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), have been slow to develop. Vaccine development can be aided by the identification of immune response markers that serve as effective surrogates for clinically significant infection or disease endpoints. However, measuring immune response marker activity is often costly, which has motivated the usage of two-phase sampling for immune response evaluation in clinical trials of preventive vaccines. In such trials, the measurement of immunological markers is performed on a subset of trial participants, where enrollment in this second phase is potentially contingent on the observed study outcome and other participant-level information. We propose nonparametric methodology for efficiently estimating a counterfactual parameter that quantifies the impact of a given immune response marker on the subsequent probability of infection.
