Introduction Gastroparesis (GP) is characterized by delayed gastric emptying in the absence of mechanical obstruction. About 75% of GP patients are females. Diabetes and idiopathic are the two commonest etiologies of GP. Up to two-thirds of the GP patients do not have significant symptom responses to medical therapies, and there is a paucity of available oral prokinetic agents with only one medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for this indication. The oral and parenteral formulations of metoclopramide were FDA approved in 1979 to treat symptoms of acute and recurrent diabetic GP. The aim of this study is to analyze the frequency of body weight loss (FBWL) as an additional prognostic factor in the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).In this observational, single-center study, data were retrieved for 236 patients treated for mCRC. FBWL was defined as a percent of change in weight divided by weeks of therapy. Patients were stratified into two groups according to the median of FBWL which equaled to the loss of 0.05%/week. Patients who lost >0.05%/week (N = 116) had shorter progression-free survival (PFS) in the first-line treatment, then the ones who lost less then 0.05%/week (N = 120); 28.3 vs 46.3 weeks, respectively. Cox regression model showed that FBWL and sidedness were significant predictors of PFS, while age, sex and ECOG were not. Significantly more patients with stable weight were also eligible for second-line treatment. In conclusion, stabilization of body weight is important and independent predictor of longer PFS in first-line therapy of patients with mCRC.Colon cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths around the world. The objective of this systematic review was to analyze the antitumor activity of the bioactive components present in extracts from Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae families using different in in vitro models of colon cancer. 241 publications have been identified (published from January 2008 to January 2020) from different electronic data base. 44 articles were included, 26 of which examined the Solanaceae family. The antitumor activity exhibited by this family was due to the withanolide-type steroid compounds they harbor. 18 articles were related to the Cucurbitaceae family. This family is characterized by their production of cucurbitacin-type triterpenoid compounds and their derivatives, which confer antitumor activity. In conclusion, the different genera belonging to both families are an important source of bioactive compounds with relevant activity against colon cancer. More experimental and in vivo studies will be required to corroborate their antitumor activity and to leverage them in future clinical practice.Cognitive impairment and chronic pain are amongst the most prevalent neurological sequelae of HIV infection, yet little is understood about the potential bidirectional relationship between the two conditions. Health educators and advocacy groups often use side-by-side visual images to communicate about equity and to distinguish it from equality. Despite the near-ubiquity of these images, little is known about how they are understood by different audiences.
To assess the effectiveness of an image commonly used to communicate about health equity.
In 167 interviews with health stakeholders in Greater Cleveland, Ohio, in 2018 to 2019, a commonly used health equity image was shown to participants, who were asked to interpret its meaning. Interviewees included 21 health professionals, 21 clinicians, 22 metro-wide decision makers, 24 community leaders, and 79 community members.
About two thirds of our socioeconomically, racial/ethnically, educationally, and professionally diverse sample said the equity image helped clarify the distinction between "equality" and "equity." Yet less than one third offered an interpretation consistent with the image's goals of foregrounding not only injustice but also a need for systemic change.

Our results show that low flow combined with high temperatures resulted in a general deterioration of surface water quality of both the Meuse and Rhine rivers during the 2018 drought. This was reflected by significant increases in water temperatures (average of +1.9 °C) and salinity levels (+11%). While we found higher concentrations of some pharmaceuticals (carbamazepine (+10%) and metoprolol (+29%)), these increases were statistically insignificant. The decline in water quality is primarily caused by limited dilution of the chemical load derived from point sources and salinity intrusion in the lower part of Rhine-Meuse delta. A comparison of the water quality responses of the Rhine and Meuse shows larger impacts for the rainfed Meuse river with lower summer flow, compared to the mixed rain- and snowmelt-fed Rhine river. Sustainable, transboundary river water management is essential to ensure water of suitable quality for different sectoral uses during future projected droughts.Human sewage from Florianopolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil) was analyzed for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV2) from October 2019 until March 2020. Twenty five ml of sewage samples were clarified and viruses concentrated using a glycine buffer method coupled with polyethylene glycol precipitation, and viral RNA extracted using a commercial kit. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected by RT-qPCR using oligonucleotides targeting N1, S and two RdRp regions. The results of all positive samples were further confirmed by a different RT-qPCR system in an independent laboratory. S and RdRp amplicons were sequenced to confirm identity with SARS-CoV-2. Genome sequencing was performed using two strategies; a sequence-independent single-primer amplification (SISPA) approach, and by direct metagenomics using Illumina's NGS. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected on 27th November 2019 (5.49 ± 0.02 log10 SARS-CoV-2 genome copies (GC) L-1), detection being confirmed by an independent laboratory and genome sequencing analysis. The samples in the subsequent three events were positive by all RT-qPCR assays; these positive results were also confirmed by an independent laboratory. The average load was 5.83 ± 0.12 log10 SARS-CoV-2 GC L-1, ranging from 5.49 ± 0.02 log10 GC L-1 (27th November 2019) to 6.68 ± 0.02 log10 GC L-1 (4th March 2020). Our findings demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 was likely circulating undetected in the community in Brazil since November 2019, earlier than the first reported case in the Americas (21st January 2020).This study aims to evaluate the individual and synergistic controls of climatic and land cover changes on stormwater runoff regimes, and perform a comparative synthesis of the historical and future runoffs for complex coastal-urban environments. A large-scale (7117 km2) mechanistic hydrologic model was developed for Florida Southeast Coasts Basin as the study area using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Storm Water Management Model 5.1. The model was calibrated and validated with daily streamflow observations (Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency = 0.74 to 0.92) during 2004-2013 (termed 2010s), computing the corresponding runoff volume as a historical reference. Runoffs for 2050s (2044-2053) and 2080s (2076-2085) were quantified by incorporating climatic projections from 20 General Circulation Models and land cover projections from EPA under the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios. We found a predominant climatic control on the potential runoff changes and a high vulnerability in the coastal-urban environments. The concurrent changes in climate and land cover led to synergistic (stronger than the sum of individual effects) nonlinear responses of runoff. The projected changes in climate and land cover together would increase the annual basin runoff volume by 118%, 106%, 86%, and 80% under the 2080s-RCP 4.5, 2050s-RCP 4.5, 2050s-RCP 8.5, and 2080s-RCP 8.5 scenarios, respectively. Greater increases in runoff were noted at and around the urban centers than that at the non-urban areas across the basin. The relative increases in runoff were higher during the dry season and transitional months (October-May) than the wet season (June-September). Our findings would guide stormwater management and ecosystem protection for southeast Florida and coastal built environments across the world.Co-digestion with lipid-rich substrates is a likely strategy in biogas plants, due to their high energy content. The dynamics and the functional role of the formed microbial clusters were unveiled, providing explanations for their abundance and behavior. Process monitoring indicated that the reactors responded immediately to lipid supplementation and they managed to stabilize their performance in a short period of time. The dominance of Candidatus Methanoculleus thermohydrogenotrophicum in the biogas reactors fed exclusively with cattle manure indicated that the predominant methanogenic pathway was hydrogenotrophic. Additionally, the abundance of this methanogen was further enhanced upon lipid supplementation and its growth was supported by syntrophic bacteria capable to metabolize fatty acids. However, with the shift **** to the original feedstock (i.e. solely cattle manure), the microbial dynamicity significantly altered with a remarkable increment in the abundance of a propionate degrader affiliated to the order of Bacteroidales, which became the predominant microorganism of the consortium.

With the advent of functional endoscopic sinus surgery and coronal computed tomography (CT) imaging, more attention has been paid toward paranasal region anatomy. Detailed knowledge of anatomic variations in paranasal sinus region is critical for surgeons performing endoscopic sinus surgery as well as for the radiologist involved in the pre- and post-operative assessment. The anatomical variants with some accompanying pathologies would directly influence the success of diagnostic and therapeutic management of paranasal sinus diseases. Our study intends to explore the anatomy of paranasal air sinus through CT and to describe its variants, which may predispose to chronic sinusitis and complications in endoscopic sinonasal surgery.
This was a retrospective study carried out in a tertiary institution. Two hundred and fifty patients without paranasal sinus symptoms who presented for head CT studies and gave consent for a coronal section scan of the paranasal sinuses to be taken in addition to the axial sectionriations, which could be causing or precipitating the sinusitis.

A retrospective analysis of case records of submentoplasty during 2012-2017 was collated. Cases fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for this study. A qualitative assessment of the outcomes was performed.
Sixteen cases who had undergone isolated submental lipectomy with platysma plication formed the study group. The mean age was 44.38 ± 5.49, with a range of 37-54 years. There were 9 females and 7 males. The mean age of females was 42.89 ± 4.01, while for males, it was 46.29 ± 6.79 years. The mean follow-up ranged for 16.2 ± 3.4 months (14-20 months). None of the patients had major complications.
The modified mini-neck lift approach for an isolated submental lipectomy and strap muscles of suprahyoid group with platysma plication is presented. Careful manipulation of the fat removal, plication of platysma, strap muscle and positioning of incision would help to a greater extent. The anatomical challenges for this variation are discussed.

Plasma derivatives have been practiced a lot in orthopedics, burns, and sport medicine. Microneedling (MN) with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has been proven to improve the micro-circulation and thus improve hair growth. The role of concentrated growth factor (CGF) for hair growth has not been mentioned anywhere in the literature for hair growth which we tried to prove in our article by comparing it with various other studies.
This is a retrospective randomized study involving 20 male patients whose ages ranged from 21 years to 56 years. PRP was prepared using the dual-spin method and injected after activation; post-MN, CGF gel was applied topically. Four sessions were performed, and a follow-up was done after 6 months. Recurrence of osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported after surgery. It is therefore necessary to develop a real-time diagnostic method, which can clearly distinguish the surgical margin from unaffected bone.
We analyzed a sequestrum from a patient with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Quantitative light induced fluorescence (QLF) was applied to the sequestrum.
In this study, QLF demonstrated three types of fluorescence phenomena (Non-red-fluorescence, hyper-red-fluorescence, and hypo-red-fluorescence) on the sequestrum. Histology revealed geographical, microbiological, and immunological differences based on the fluorescence types on QLF. Non-red-fluorescence showed sclerotic and lamellar bone tissue, hyper-red-fluorescence showed an infectious state due to bacterial invasion and osteolysis, and hypo-red-fluorescence indicated predominantly granular tissue with inflammation, and the absence of bone matrix and bacterial colonies. Based on histologic analysis, we speculated that QLF may be a useful real-time diagnostic tool during surgery for MRONJ.
In conclusion, QLF can be useful in distinguishing between lamellar and infected bone, which are visually similar; QLF-guided ONJ surgery, preserving the Non-red-fluorescent areas and removing the hyper- and hypo-red-fluorescent areas of bone may be useful.

Actinic keratoses (AK) are a common precancerous skin condition in dermatology practice. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with ALA or MAL is an effective but painful treatment of fields of cancerization particularly when conventional illumination sources and irradiation rates are used. Two prior studies showed that illumination with textile PDT was not inferior to conventional PDT. FLUXMEDICARE® (FLX-PDT) is the first medical device marketed with textile based lighting . We performeda real-life study to evaluate efficacy and tolerance of this device.
We carried out a single-center retrospective study. We collected data from patients treated with FLX-PDT with MAL for AKs localized on scalp and temples between November 2018 and November 2019. The primary endpoint was complete clearance rate (CR) at 3 months-follow up.
Data of 39 patients were reviewed in the study, with a total of 417 AKs. The CR rate was 72.6 % (95 %CI 67.9-77.0) at 3 months-follow up and 67.5 % (95 %CI 61.2-73.3) at 6 months-follow up. The median pain felt during the session was 0 and there wasn't erythema after the session for 64.1 %.

Skin metastasis from primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck is rare . These metastatic lesions are usually detected by physical examination, ultrasound imaging, computed tomography, and positron emission tomography.. Recently, indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) has been used to discover superficial tumors. However, the optimum timing of ICG injection and fluorescence patterns of skin tumors in ICG-FA are still unknown.
We encountered a 60-year-old man with hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. The patient underwent concurrent chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. However, following these treatments, the patient developed two nodules in the skin of the right upper limb. Thus, the patient underwent ICG-FA. The two skin metastatic nodules showed different fluorescence patterns. One lesion showed high fluorescence intensity during ICG-FA. However, the fluorescence intensity of a small part of the other lesion exceeded that of the surrounding tissue only for a short time.
We suggest that ICG-FA is effective for detecting skin metastases, and with further studies on the various fluorescence patterns of skin tumors, this technique will become more efficient.

To evaluate the long-term effect of subthreshold nanosecond laser (SNL) treatment on progression to late age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Observational extension study of a randomized, sham-controlled trial. Two hundred twelve participants with bilateral large drusen. The Laser Intervention in the Early Stages of AMD (LEAD) study was a 36-month trial where participants were randomized to receive SNL or sham treatment in 1 eye at 6-monthly intervals up to 30 months. A novel photonic method, to the best of our knowledge, to generate high-frequency micro/millimeter-wave signals based on the optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) with all-optical gain is proposed in this paper. The core device is the monolithically integrated dual-frequency semiconductor laser (MI-DFSL), in which the two DFB laser sections are simultaneously fabricated on one chip. Attributing to the combined impact of the photon-photon resonance effect and the sideband amplification injection locking effect, one widely tunable microwave photonic filter with a high Q value and narrow 3-dB bandwidth can be realized. In this case, the generated microwave signals would largely break the limitation in bandwidth once making full use of the optical amplifier to replace the narrow-band electrical amplifiers in traditional OEO configuration to provide the necessary gain. No additional high-speed external modulator, high-frequency electrical bandpass filters or multi-stage electrical amplifiers are required, highly simplifying the framework and reducing the power consumption. Moreover, this simple and compact structure has the potential to be developed for photonic integration. In the current proof-of-concept experiment, microwave signals with wide tuning ranges from 14.2 GHz to 25.2 GHz are realized. The SSB phase noises in all tuning range are below -103.77 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz and the best signal of the -106.363 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz is achieved at the frequency of 17.2 GHz.A time-resolving filtering technique developed to improve background suppression in Raman spectroscopy is presented and characterized. The technique enables separation of signal contributions via their polarization dependency by the addition of a waveplate to a normal measurement system and data post-processing. As a result, background interferences of broadband laser-induced fluorescence and incandescence, as well as flame luminosity and blackbody radiation, were effectively suppressed from Raman spectra. Experimental setting parameters of the method were investigated under well-controlled conditions to assess their impact on the background-filtering ability, and the overall trend was understood. The fluorescence background was effectively suppressed for all investigated settings of modulation period, number of accumulations, and recording duration, with the spectrum quality preserved after the filtering. For practical application, the method was tested for measurements in a sooting flame accompanied by a strong luminosity and interfering laser-induced background signals. The technique resulted in a 200-fold decrease of the background and allowed for quantitative analyses of concentrations and temperatures from the filtered data. Furthermore, a single ZnO MW not covered, and covered by AgNWs, was used to construct a heterojunction LED. Compared with single bare ZnO MW-based LED, significant enhancement of the device performance was achieved, including a significant enhancement in the light output and a small emission band blueshift. Specifically, the exciton-polariton emission was observably enhanced, and the corresponding Rabi splitting energy (∼ 495 meV) was significantly higher than that of the bare ZnO MW-based LED (∼ 370 meV). This article aims to address this gap in knowledge through a qualitative analysis of health professional students' engagement with a longitudinal portfolio assessment spanning two years. Thematic analysis of 7 focus groups conducted with oral health therapy students was performed. Four temporal dimensions of student engagement associated with the longitudinal portfolio assessment were identified the organising effect of the assessment structure and timeline; flows of learning over time; individual perceptions of time; and having a future orientation. Neutralizing antibody levels at Months 1, 6, 12, and 24 post-booster were assessed by plaque reduction neutralization test. In a subset, B-cell responses were assessed by a fluorescent immunospot assay, and T-cells analyzed by flow cytometry at Days 0, 7, 12, Months 1 and 12. We observed an increase of antibody titers Month 1 post-booster, then a gradual decline to Month 24. Study 1 (N = 50) documented the crowd-emotion-amplification effect. Study 2 (N = 50) replicated the effect even when we increased exposure time. Study 3 (N = 50) used eye tracking to show that attentional bias to emotional faces drives amplification. These findings have important implications for many domains in which individuals must make snap judgments regarding a crowd's emotionality, from public speaking to controlling crowds.
Studies that evaluate the effectiveness of concussion laws often use only a single variable (ie, presence of the law), failing to account for law complexity. We examined the association between multiple design elements of state concussion laws and rates of sports-related concussion reporting among US high school athletes.
We derived 3 design elements of concussion laws from the 2009-2017 LawAtlas database (1) strength of law, (2) number of law revisions, and (3) speed of law adoption. We examined the association between these design elements and rates of new and recurrent sports-related concussion reporting from the 2009-2010 through 2016-2017 academic years in a nationally representative sample of high school athletes participating in High School Report Information Online, an online data collection tool.
A total of 7064 sports-related concussions (6332 [89.6%] new and 732 [10.4%] recurrent concussions) were reported during the study period, with an overall rate of 39.7 sports-related concussions per 100 000 athletic exposures (eg, game or practice). Rates of new concussion reporting were higher among high schools in states with medium- or high-strength concussion laws than in states with low-strength concussion laws and in states with at least 1 concussion law revision than in states with no concussion law revisions. Rates of recurrent concussion reporting were lower among high schools in states with ≥2 concussion law revisions than in states with <2 concussion law revisions. Early law adoption was associated with higher rates of new and recurrent concussion reporting, and late law adoption was associated with lower rates of new and recurrent concussion reporting.

We examined the association between these design elements and rates of new and recurrent sports-related concussion reporting from the 2009-2010 through 2016-2017 academic years in a nationally representative sample of high school athletes participating in High School Report Information Online, an online data collection tool. A total of 7064 sports-related concussions (6332 [89.6%] new and 732 [10.4%] recurrent concussions) were reported during the study period, with an overall rate of 39.7 sports-related concussions per 100 000 athletic exposures (eg, game or practice). Rates of new concussion reporting were higher among high schools in states with medium- or high-strength concussion laws than in states with low-strength concussion laws and in states with at least 1 concussion law revision than in states with no concussion law revisions. Rates of recurrent concussion reporting were lower among high schools in states with ≥2 concussion law revisions than in states with <2 concussion law revisions. Early law adoption was associated with higher rates of new and recurrent concussion reporting, and late law adoption was associated with lower rates of new and recurrent concussion reporting. Patient #1 suffered from agranulocytosis and tonsillitis followed by severe sepsis by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Epstein-Barr virus reactivation. Her dizygotic twin sister (patient #2) also suffered from agranulocytosis after a surgical intervention. Polymorphisms in genes that encodes enzymes of anthracyclines metabolic pathway (CBR3 rs1056892, rs8133052, NQO1 rs1800566, NQO2 rs1143684, NOS3 rs1799983, rs2070744) were evaluated in 225 adult de novo AML patients.
The variant CBR3 rs8133052 was associated with lower hepatotoxicity (P = 0.028). Wild-type genotype of NQO2 rs1143684 was related to higher complete remission (P = 0.014), and the variant allele with greater gastrointestinal toxicity (P = 0.024). However, the variant genotype of NQO1 rs1800566 was associated with mucositis (P = 0.018), but heterozygous genotype showed less gastrointestinal toxicity (P = 0.028) and thrombocytopenia (P = 0.009). Protective effects against nephrotoxicity and thrombocytopenia were reported with variant NOS3 rs1799983 (P = 0.006, P = 0.014), whereas carriers of NOS3 rs2070744 showed higher hepatotoxicity and thrombocytopenia (P = 0.017, P = 0.013).

Since 2007, the National Living Donor Assistance Center has provided the most financial support to US living donors meeting specific income criteria by reimbursing travel, meal and lodging expenses. In 2019, the National Kidney Registry (NKR) started providing lost wages, travel and lodging reimbursement via their Donor Shield program. Donor Shield is automatically provided to donors who participate in kidney paired donation through the NKR or who donate at a Donor Shield Direct center, without any income restrictions.
The support donors across the US received from the Donor Shield program between January 2019 and February 2020 was studied.
During the study period, 326 (25.9%) of the 1,260 donors covered by Donor Shield, from 46 programs received reimbursements amounting to a total of $647,384.45, with $472,389.97 (73.0%) covering lost wages. Median reimbursement per donor was $1,813.80 (range $44.0 - $ 7,165.63). 81% of 108 reimbursed donors who were surveyed reported that the lack of these reimbursements would have posed a financial hardship, and 4% said they would have been unable to donate without this support.

In this study, the authors aim to compare perceptions of remote learning versus in-person learning among faculty and trainees at a single institution during the COVID-19 pandemic and to evaluate the impact that a brief faculty training on best practices in online teaching would have on faculty attitudes towards remote learning.
The authors conducted an attitude survey on remote learning among trainees and faculty members approximately 3 months after the transition from in-person to remote learning. The authors then conducted a faculty training on best practices in online teaching followed by an evaluation survey. Study findings were examined descriptively and by Fisher's exact testing.
The response rates for the attitudes survey were 68% among trainees and 61% among faculty. Trainees and faculty perceived in-person learning more favorably than remote learning across a variety of domains, including overall enjoyment, interpersonal connection, ability to communicate, and concentration. Despite these trends, only 10% of trainees and 14% of faculty felt that all lectures would be most effectively delivered in-person when this becomes possible again. The response rate for the faculty training evaluation survey was 16%. Compared to non-attendees, faculty attendees reported more confidence in their ability to teach remotely (89% vs 56%, p=0.02) but not increased optimism (89% vs 63%, p=0.06).
The study findings suggest that both trainees and faculty perceive remote learning negatively compared to in-person learning but still feel that some lectures should be delivered remotely even after a return to in-person learning is possible.

The long-term outcomes of minimally invasive lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPND) are not completely known. The aim of this study was to compare long-term outcomes between robotic and laparoscopic LPND in low rectal cancer patients with suspected lymph node metastasis in the pelvic sidewall.
We retrospectively reviewed the records of all rectal cancer patients who had laparoscopic or robotic total mesorectal excision (TME) with LPND between March 2006 and June 2016. Stage IV patients were excluded. The outcomes of patients who had laparoscopic and robotic TME with LPND were compared.
Twenty-nine patients had laparoscopic LPND and 70 had robotic LPND. No significant differences in patient characteristics were observed between the two groups. The urinary retention rate was lower in the robotic group than in the laparoscopic group (7.1% vs. 24.1%; p = 0.043). During a median follow-up of 44.3months, the overall recurrence rates were 48.3% and 31.4% in the laparoscopic and robotic groups, respectivele nature and both major variables of TME and LPND involved together, this should be cautiously interpreted.
To determine which blastocyst assessment variables predict clinical implantations in single blastocyst frozen embryo transfers (FET) of freeze-only-IVF cycles, following improved vitrified-warmed blastocyst survival and developmental competence preservation.
In this retrospective cohort study performed at a single private IVF center, the pregnancy outcomes of 1795 single blastocyst FET cycles were analyzed, from freeze-only-IVF retrievals performed between January 2017 and January 2020. Stepwise forward logistic regressions with clinical implantation (i.e., normal gestational sac and cardiac activity) as dependent variable were performed to identify the significant predictors. All blastocysts were vitrified using Cryotop technology, with before transfer (post-warming) blastocyst morphology scores used in all analyses.
The 1795 blastocysts transferred were vitrifıed on embryo days 4 (1057), 5 (716), and 6 (22). The overall clinical implantation rate was 50.9%; however, using blastocyst age and blastocyst morphological score the clinical implantation rates increased from 49.0% (day-4 1 and 2) and 25.2% (day-5 1 and 2) to 71.2% (day-4 4AA) and 64.3% (day-5 4AA), respectively. Whereas full (≥3) blastocysts with scores of AA and BA had similar clinical implantation rates (66.2 vs. 66.7%), the rate of full blastocysts with scores of AB was lower (58.9%). In stepwise forward logistic regressions, female age, blastocyst age, blastocyst expansion score, blastocyst trophectoderm score, and number of blastocysts vitrified were significant predictors of clinical implantation.
Using blastocyst age and before transfer blastocyst expansion and trophectoderm morphology scores to select blastocysts, clinical implantation rates greater than 70% could be achieved for top-scoring blastocysts.

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) plays a crucial role in cumulus expansion and fertilization. The ovarian PTX3 level in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) remains uncertain. In the present study, we investigated the follicular PTX3 levels and found the influence of reproductive hormones on ovarian PTX3 concentration.
This study was based on 204 healthy-weight women (102 PCOS and 102 normal ovulating subjects) undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Follicular fluid (FF) was collected during oocyte retrieval. The PTX3 levels and other hormone levels in FF samples were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
The PTX3 level in the follicle was significantly higher in the healthy-weight PCOS women than controls. To determine which blastocyst assessment variables predict clinical implantations in single blastocyst frozen embryo transfers (FET) of freeze-only-IVF cycles, following improved vitrified-warmed blastocyst survival and developmental competence preservation. In this retrospective cohort study performed at a single private IVF center, the pregnancy outcomes of 1795 single blastocyst FET cycles were analyzed, from freeze-only-IVF retrievals performed between January 2017 and January 2020. Stepwise forward logistic regressions with clinical implantation (i.e., normal gestational sac and cardiac activity) as dependent variable were performed to identify the significant predictors. All blastocysts were vitrified using Cryotop technology, with before transfer (post-warming) blastocyst morphology scores used in all analyses. The 1795 blastocysts transferred were vitrifıed on embryo days 4 (1057), 5 (716), and 6 (22). The overall clinical implantation rate was 50.9%; however, using blastocyst age and blastocyst morphological score the clinical implantation rates increased from 49.0% (day-4 1 and 2) and 25.2% (day-5 1 and 2) to 71.2% (day-4 4AA) and 64.3% (day-5 4AA), respectively. Whereas full (≥3) blastocysts with scores of AA and BA had similar clinical implantation rates (66.2 vs. 66.7%), the rate of full blastocysts with scores of AB was lower (58.9%). In the present study, we investigated the follicular PTX3 levels and found the influence of reproductive hormones on ovarian PTX3 concentration. This study was based on 204 healthy-weight women (102 PCOS and 102 normal ovulating subjects) undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Follicular fluid (FF) was collected during oocyte retrieval. The PTX3 levels and other hormone levels in FF samples were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The PTX3 level in the follicle was significantly higher in the healthy-weight PCOS women than controls.
