This study aimed to elucidate the potential effect of Anisodamine (ANI 654-2) on influenza A virus (IAV)-induced ALI, as well as its involved mechanism. HE staining showed ANI 654-2 attenuated lung lesions in ALI treated C57BL/6 ****. The alleviated lung lesion was validated with the increased alveolar fluid clearance (AFC) ratio, decreased lung wet/dry (W/D) weight and reduced protein concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Flow cytometry analysis showed that ANI 654-2 reversed the increase of neutrophil count and M1 type macrophage number and the decrease of M2 type macrophage number in IAV-induced ALI ****. ELISA of BALF validated that ANI 654-2 decreased TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-18 while increased IL-10. Mechanically, ANI 654-2 decreased the protein expression of TGF-β1, TGF-β R II, TGF-β RI, TAK1, p-AKT/AKT and p-p105/p105, all of which were elevated with IAV. The effects of ANI 654-2 were validated in IAV treated A549 cells. As a result, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 were partly reverted with activators of TAK1, AKT or NF-κB. Taken together, this study implicated that ANI 654-2 improved IAV-induced ALI via TAK1, AKT and NF-κB regulated inflammation. At the same time, when study units are naturally clustered, as patients are in clinics, it may be preferable to sample clusters rather than the study units, especially when the costs associated with travel between clusters are high. In this setting, aggregated data on the outcome and select covariates are sometimes routinely available through, for example, a country's Health Management Information System. If used wisely, this information can be used to guide decisions regarding which clusters to sample, and potentially obtain gains in efficiency over simple random sampling. In this article, we derive a series of formulas for optimal allocation of resources when a single-stage stratified cluster-based outcome-dependent sampling design is to be used and a marginal mean model is specified to answer the question of interest. Specifically, we consider two settings (i) when a particular parameter in the mean model is of primary interest; and, (ii) when multiple parameters are of interest. We investigate the finite population performance of the optimal allocation framework through a comprehensive simulation study. Our results show that there are trade-offs that must be considered at the design stage optimizing for one parameter yields efficiency gains over balanced and simple random sampling, while resulting in losses for the other parameters in the model. The short and comprehensive synthesis of feroniellins was achieved in only two steps from easily available bergamottin based on the "ring-size-divergent" strategy. In addition, these syntheses resulted in revision of the proposed structures for feroniellins A and B and the determination of all the absolute configurations of feroniellins; their preliminary anti-inflammatory activities were investigated as well.

Significant differences were found for mean sensitivity (MS) in SWAP comparing RA-patients with healthy participants (ΔMS -3.06, p=0.001) and with hypertensive patients (ΔMS -2.32, p=0.007). In SAP we observed a significant difference between patients with RA and healthy subjects regarding loss variance (LV) (ΔLV=+9.77, p=0.004). Flicker perimetry did not demonstrate significant differences between groups. A correlation of VF changes with blood pressure level or RA-activity was not observed.

Anemia of inflammation is a well-described pathology in which a chronic inflammatory disease leads to a reduction in the red blood cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit values. In this retrospective cohort study, we aim to find whether removal of the sialolith and alleviation of the inflammation affect the complete blood count results. We examined data regarding forty-nine patients who underwent surgery for the removal of a submandibular gland sialolith using the duct-stretching technique. Complete blood counts two years before and after the surgical procedure were collected. The average pre-procedure and post-procedure values were calculated for each patient to establish the average blood profile. The pre- and post-procedure values were compared to evaluate the effect of the surgical treatment on the blood profile. We found that the average blood count values for patients with sialolithiasis were towards the lower end of the normal range. Post-surgery, a significant increase in hematocrit, hemoglobin and red blood cell count was observed, which was more pronounced in the older age group and in patients with co-morbidities. We conclude that sialolith removal surgery is associated with significant improvement in the complete blood count values, especially in the elderly and in patients and with co-morbidities. Determinants that dictate clinical responses to PSMA-targeting therapeutics are not well known.     Knowledge of the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of college students remains limited. Our aim is to investigate the prevalence of anxiety and explore the potential risk and protective factors of anxiety.

    A cross-sectional survey was adopted and a total of 24,678 college students were included from Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, during February, 2020. Anxiety was assessed by using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder tool (GAD-7). Multiple logistic regression models were established for exploring potential factors of anxiety.

    The overall prevalence of anxiety was 7.3%. After adjusting for potential confounders, sex, place of residence, worried level, fear level, cognitive levels, and behavior status were found to be associated with anxiety (
    < 0.05). Students with positive preventive behaviors showed a protective effect against the anxiety symptoms compared to those with negative preventive behaviors. In contrast to the high-cognition category, participants at a low cognitive level were 14.9% more likely to present anxiety symptoms.

  • Solubilization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is a fundamental technique for the use of CNTs and their conjugates as nanodevices and nanobiodevices. In this work, we demonstrate the preparation of CNT suspensions with "green" detergents made from coconuts and bamboo as fundamental research in CNT nanotechnology. Single-walled CNTs (SWNTs) with a few carboxylic acid groups (3-5%) and pristine multi-walled CNTs (MWNTs) were mixed in each detergent solution and sonicated with a bath-type sonicator. The prepared suspensions were characterized using absorbance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Among the eight combinations of CNTs and detergents (two types of CNTs and four detergents, including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the standard), SWNTs/MWNTs were well dispersed in all combinations except the combination of the MWNTs and the bamboo detergent. The stability of the suspensions prepared with coconut detergents was better than that prepared with SDS. Because the efficiency of the bamboo detergents against the MWNTs differed significantly from that against the SWNTs, the natural detergent might be useful for separating CNTs. Our results revealed that the use of the "green" detergents had the advantage of dispersing CNTs as well as SDS.Wastewater treatment plants receive sewage containing high concentrations of bacteria and antibiotics. We assessed bacterial counts and their antibiotic resistance patterns in water from (a) influents and effluents of the Legon sewage treatment plant (STP) in Accra, Ghana and (b) upstream, outfall, and downstream in the recipient Onyasia stream. We conducted a cross-sectional study of quality-controlled water testing (January-June 2018). In STP effluents, mean bacterial counts (colony-forming units/100 mL) had reduced E. coli (99.9% reduction; 102,266,667 to 710), A. hydrophila (98.8%; 376,333 to 9603), and P. aeruginosa (99.5%; 5,666,667 to 1550). Antibiotic resistance was significantly reduced for tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, cefuroxime, and ceftazidime and increased for gentamicin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, and imipenem. The highest levels were for amoxicillin/clavulanate (50-97%) and aztreonam (33%). Bacterial counts increased by 98.8% downstream compared to the sewage outfall and were predominated by E. coli, implying intense fecal contamination from other sources. There was a progressive increase in antibiotic resistance from upstream, to outfall, to downstream. The highest resistance was for amoxicillin/clavulanate (80-83%), cefuroxime (47-73%), aztreonam (53%), and ciprofloxacin (40%). The STP is efficient in reducing bacterial counts and thus reducing environmental contamination.     etween 2018 and 2019, 107 patients were included (33 female, 74 male; mean age 48.3 ± 19.7; mean temperature 35.9 ± 1.3; median ISS 30, IQR 23-36). The area under the curve (AUC) is 0.77 (95% CI 0.68-0.85) for SIRS and 0.71 (95% CI 0.58-0.83) for sepsis. WATSON and TRISS showed similar AUCs to predict early death (AUC 0.90, 95% CI 0.79-0.99 vs. AUC 0.88, 95% CI 0.77-0.97; p = 0.75). The goodness of fit of WATSON (X2 = 8.19, Hosmer-Lemeshow p = 0.42) was superior to that of TRISS (X2 = 31.93, Hosmer-Lemeshow p less then 0.05), as was the overall performance based on Brier score (0.06 vs. 0.11 points).     Solubilization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is a fundamental technique for the use of CNTs and their conjugates as nanodevices and nanobiodevices. In this work, we demonstrate the preparation of CNT suspensions with "green" detergents made from coconuts and bamboo as fundamental research in CNT nanotechnology. Single-walled CNTs (SWNTs) with a few carboxylic acid groups (3-5%) and pristine multi-walled CNTs (MWNTs) were mixed in each detergent solution and sonicated with a bath-type sonicator. The prepared suspensions were characterized using absorbance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Among the eight combinations of CNTs and detergents (two types of CNTs and four detergents, including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the standard), SWNTs/MWNTs were well dispersed in all combinations except the combination of the MWNTs and the bamboo detergent. The stability of the suspensions prepared with coconut detergents was better than that prepared with SDS. Because the efficiency of the bamboo detergents against the MWNTs differed significantly from that against the SWNTs, the natural detergent might be useful for separating CNTs. We assessed bacterial counts and their antibiotic resistance patterns in water from (a) influents and effluents of the Legon sewage treatment plant (STP) in Accra, Ghana and (b) upstream, outfall, and downstream in the recipient Onyasia stream. We conducted a cross-sectional study of quality-controlled water testing (January-June 2018). In STP effluents, mean bacterial counts (colony-forming units/100 mL) had reduced E. coli (99.9% reduction; 102,266,667 to 710), A. hydrophila (98.8%; 376,333 to 9603), and P. aeruginosa (99.5%; 5,666,667 to 1550). Antibiotic resistance was significantly reduced for tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, cefuroxime, and ceftazidime and increased for gentamicin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, and imipenem. The highest levels were for amoxicillin/clavulanate (50-97%) and aztreonam (33%). Bacterial counts increased by 98.8% downstream compared to the sewage outfall and were predominated by E. coli, implying intense fecal contamination from other sources. The results demonstrate the potential for machine learning to enhance classical molecular dynamics simulations without adding significant computational complexity, and provides methodology that could be used to predict other electronic properties which cannot be calculated solely using classical simulations.Ion bombardment (IB) is a promising nanofabrication technique for producing nanoripples. A critical issue that restricts the application of IB is the limited quality of IB-induced nanoripples. Photoresist (PR) and antireflection coating (ARC) are of technological relevance for lithographic exposure processes. Moreover, to improve the quality of IB-induced self-organized nanoripples, in this study, a PR/ARC bilayer was bombarded at an incidence angle of 50°. The surface normalized defect density and power spectral density, obtained via scanning atomic force microscopy, indicate the superiority of the PR/ARC bilayer nanoripples over those of single PR or ARC layers. The growth mechanism of the improved nanoripples, deciphered via the temporal evolution of the morphology, involves the following processes (i) formation of a well-grown IB-induced nanoripple prepattern on the PR, (ii) transfer of nanoripples from the PR to the ARC, forming an initial ARC nanoripple morphology for subsequent IB, and (iii) conversion of the initial nonuniform ARC nanoripples into uniform nanoripples. In this unique method, the angle of ion-incidence should be chosen so that ripples form on both PR and ARC films. Overall, this method facilitates nanoripple improvement, including prepattern fabrication for guiding nanoripple growth and sustainable nanoripple development via a single IB. ChG hydrogel beads containing homogeneously distributed BG nanoparticles promoted rapid bone-like apatite mineralization and induced the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCsin vitro. The bionanocomposite beads loaded with either nBG or nMBG also produced a greater bone tissue formationin vivoas compared to Puros® after 8 weeks of implantation.   • To explore the correlation between two-dimensional ultrasound (2D-US), contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

    In this retrospective study, 56 patients with surgically pathologically confirmed HCC lesions were included. Patients were classified according to the presence of MVI MVI positive group (n = 17) and MVI negative group (n = 39). 2D-US and CEUS examinations were performed within two weeks before surgery. The 2D-US and CEUS features were analyzed for correlation with MVI. Statistically significant parameters of ultrasound characteristic were scored, and the results of the scores were analyzed by ROC curve.

    There were statistically significant differences in tumor shape, boundary, capsule, CEUS portal phase and delayed phase enhancement pattern, time to wash out, and tumor margin after enhancement (P <  0.05), while there were no statistically significant differences in tumor location and size, CEUS arterial phase enhancement pattern, initial time, time to peak, and peritumor enhancement (P >  0.05). When diagnosing the presence of MVI in HCC patients with cut-off value of the score combined 2D-US and CEUS features≥3, the maximum Jorden index was 0.58, and its diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 94.10%and 64.1%, respectively, meaning that the total score≥3 was highly suspicious of the presence of MVI.

    2D-US and CEUS are feasible methods for preoperative prediction of MVI in HCC, and can provide some theoretical basis for individualized clinical treatment.

    Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been established over years for treatment of chronic and complex wounds.

    Aim of this study was to investigate the effect NPWT on the microperfusion.

    Prospective single centre analysis of patients treated with NPWT due to acute (ACUTE) wounds after fasciotomy or patients with chronic wounds (CHRONIC) due to a chronic limb threatening ischemia was performed. NPWT was conducted through a three days sequence with a negative pressure of -120 mmHg. Before after and during the entire period of therapy the microperfusion was assessed (O2C™, LEA Medizintechnik).

    Comparison of the perfusion values of 28 patients (CHRONIC/ACUTE 5/23, women/men 8/20) before and after the NPWT sequence showed a non-significant improvement in the CHRONIC group (supine position p = 0.144, elevated position p = 0.068) and a significant decrease in the ACUTE group (supine position p = 0.012, elevated position p = 0.034). This effect could also been demonstrated during the NPWT over time (CHRONIC supine position p = 0.320, elevated position p = 0.053, ACUTE supine position p = 0.021, elevated position p = 0.012).

    Neurogenic regulation is involved in the development of microcirculation response to local heating. We suggest that microvascular reactivity can be used to estimate the severity of diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN).

    26 patients with diabetes mellitus were included in the study (patients with retinopathy (n = 15), and without retinopathy (n = 11)). The severity of DPN was assessed using Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) and Norfolk QOL-DN (NQOLDN). Skin microcirculation was measured by laser Doppler flowmetry with local heating test.

    There were revealed moderate negative correlations between microvascular reactivity and the severity of DPN (for MNSI (Rs = -0.430), for NQOLDN (Rs = -0.396)). In patients with retinopathy, correlations were stronger than in the general group (for MNSI (Rs = -0.770) and NQOLDN (Rs = -0.636)). No such correlations were found in patients without retinopathy.

    The aim was to retrospectively analyze the ultrasonographic and clinical characteristics of focal inflammatory masses and malignant masses of salivary gland by using B-mode ultrasound (US) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for differential analysis.

    The features of US and CEUS were retrospectively analyzed for 19 cases of focal salivary inflammatory masses and 45 cases of malignant salivary masses. All cases were confirmed by pathohistological examination.

    On B-mode US, the incidence of expansive growth patterns of malignant salivary masses (44.4%, 20/45) was significantly higher than that of focal salivary inflammatory masses (15.8%, 3/19) (p = 0.029). The rate of lymphadenopathy surrounding salivary glands of malignant salivary masses (42.2%, 19/45) was significantly higher than that of focal salivary inflammatory masses (15.8%, 3/19) (p = 0.042).     To explore the correlation between two-dimensional ultrasound (2D-US), contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this retrospective study, 56 patients with surgically pathologically confirmed HCC lesions were included. Patients were classified according to the presence of MVI MVI positive group (n = 17) and MVI negative group (n = 39). 2D-US and CEUS examinations were performed within two weeks before surgery. The 2D-US and CEUS features were analyzed for correlation with MVI. Statistically significant parameters of ultrasound characteristic were scored, and the results of the scores were analyzed by ROC curve. There were statistically significant differences in tumor shape, boundary, capsule, CEUS portal phase and delayed phase enhancement pattern, time to wash out, and tumor margin after enhancement (P <  0.05), while there were no statistically significant differences in tumor location and size, CEUS arterial phase enhancement pattern, initial time, time to peak, and peritumor enhancement (P >  0.05). Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been established over years for treatment of chronic and complex wounds. Aim of this study was to investigate the effect NPWT on the microperfusion. Prospective single centre analysis of patients treated with NPWT due to acute (ACUTE) wounds after fasciotomy or patients with chronic wounds (CHRONIC) due to a chronic limb threatening ischemia was performed. NPWT was conducted through a three days sequence with a negative pressure of -120 mmHg. Before after and during the entire period of therapy the microperfusion was assessed (O2C™, LEA Medizintechnik). Comparison of the perfusion values of 28 patients (CHRONIC/ACUTE 5/23, women/men 8/20) before and after the NPWT sequence showed a non-significant improvement in the CHRONIC group (supine position p = 0.144, elevated position p = 0.068) and a significant decrease in the ACUTE group (supine position p = 0.012, elevated position p = 0.034). This effect could also been demonstrated during the NPWT over time (CHRONIC supine position p = 0.320, elevated position p = 0.053, ACUTE supine position p = 0.021, elevated position p = 0.012). The severity of DPN was assessed using Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) and Norfolk QOL-DN (NQOLDN). Skin microcirculation was measured by laser Doppler flowmetry with local heating test. There were revealed moderate negative correlations between microvascular reactivity and the severity of DPN (for MNSI (Rs = -0.430), for NQOLDN (Rs = -0.396)). In patients with retinopathy, correlations were stronger than in the general group (for MNSI (Rs = -0.770) and NQOLDN (Rs = -0.636)). No such correlations were found in patients without retinopathy. Evidence supporting this observation is presented, along with evidence that optimization of this second oxidation step is not enough to pull a poor cyclization to the desired product. Homeobox A5 (HOXA5), one of the homeobox transcription factors, has been revealed to be closely associated with macrophage phenotype switching. This study aims to investigate the role of HOXA5 in carotid atherosclerosis (CAS). Herein, the role of HOXA5 was explored in polarized RAW264.7 macrophages in vitro and ApoE-/- **** in vivo. Interestingly, compared with that in M0 macrophages, both the mRNA and protein expression levels of HOXA5 were decreased in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/interferon (IFN)-γ-induced M1 macrophages, while increased in IL-4-induced M2 macrophages. In addition, in the presence of IL-4, HOXA5-overexpressing RAW264.7 cells preferred to polarizing toward M2 phenotypes. Furthermore, we found that HOXA5 bound to the promoter region and activated the expression of mediator subunit 1 (MED1), a gene known to regulate macrophage differentiation. Knocking MED1 down inhibited HOXA5-enhanced M2 macrophage polarization. In vivo, the CAS model was induced in ApoE-/- mouse fed with a Western-type diet and placed a perivascular carotid collar. Decreased mRNA and protein expressions of HOXA5 were observed in carotid arteries of CAS ****. Forced overexpression of HOXA5 reduced intimal hyperplasia and lipid accumulation in carotid vessels, and it also promoted the polarization of macrophages to M2 subtypes.     We conducted six cross-sectional nationwide questionnaire studies among all patients with hemophilia in the Netherlands from 1972 until 2019 to assess how health outcomes have changed, with a special focus on patients >50years of age.

    Data were collected on patient characteristics, treatment, (joint) bleeding, joint impairment, hospitalizations, human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C infections, and general health status (****-36).

    In 2019, 1009 patients participated, of whom 48% had mild, 15% moderate, and 37% severe hemophilia. From 1972 to 2019, the use of prophylaxis among patients with severe hemophilia increased from 30% to 89%. Their median annual bleeding rate decreased from 25 to 2 bleeds. Patients with severe hemophilia aged <16years reported joint impairment less often over time, but in those aged >40years joint status did not improve. In 2019, 5% of all 1009 patients were positive for the human immunodeficiency virus. The proportion of patients with an active hepatitis C infection drastically decreased from 45% in 2001 to 2% in 2019 due to new anti-hepatitis C treatment options. Twenty-five percent had significant liver fibrosis even after successful therapy. Compared to the general male population, patients aged >50years reported **** lower scores on the ****-36, especially on physical functioning.

    Our study shows that increased use of prophylactic treatment and effective hepatitis C treatment have improved joint health and nearly eradicated hepatitis C infection in patients with hemophilia in the Netherlands. First, we showed that CXCL12 had pro-angiogenic effects in vitro and ex vivo associated with overexpression of miR-126-3p in HUVEC and rat's aortas. Second, we showed that 2D-angiogenesis and migration induced by CXCL12 was abolished in vitro and ex vivo after miR-126-3p inhibition. Finally, we observed that SPRED-1 (one of miR-126-3p targets) was inhibited after CXCL12 treatment in HUVEC leading to improvement of CXCL12 pro-angiogenic potential in vitro. PAB, a diterpene acid, specifically inhibited NF-κB signalling and reduced the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which further decreased M1 polarization and vessel formation. We further provide in vivo and in vitro evidences that PAB suppressed NF-κB signalling by stabilizing PPARγ. Using PPARγ antagonist could abolish anti-inflammatory effect of PAB and rescue the activation of NF-κB signalling during OA. Our findings identify a previously unrecognized role of PAB in the regulation of OA and provide mechanisms by which PAB regulates NF-κB signalling through PPARγ, which further suggest targeting synovial inflammation or inhibiting vessel formation at early stage could be an effective preventive strategy for OA.

  • Family involvement for persons with psychotic disorders is supported by scientific evidence, as well as legal and ethical considerations, and recommended in clinical practice guidelines. This article reports a cross-sectional measurement of the level of implementation of such guidelines in fifteen community mental health centre units in Norway, and presents a novel fidelity scale to measure basic family involvement and support. The aim was to investigate current family involvement practices comprehensively, as a basis for targeted quality improvement.

    We employed three fidelity scales, with 12-14 items, to measure family involvement practices. Items were scored from 1 to 5, where 1 equals no implementation and 5 equals full implementation. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, a non-parametric test, and calculation of interrater reliability for the scales.

    SARS-CoV-2 can affect the human brain and other neurological structures. An increasing number of publications report neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19. However, no studies have comprehensively reviewed the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of the central and peripheral nervous system's involvement in these patients. This study aimed to describe the features of the central and peripheral nervous system involvement by COVID-19 in terms of pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, neuropathology, neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and cerebrospinal fluid findings.

    We conducted a comprehensive systematic review of all the original studies reporting patients with neurological involvement by COVID-19, from December 2019 to June 2020, without language restriction. We excluded studies with animal subjects, studies not related to the nervous system, and opinion articles. Data analysis combined descriptive measures, frequency measures, central tendency measures, and dispersion measures foral involvement by COVID-19 and provided a comprehensive explanation of the reported pathophysiological mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 infection may cause neurological impairment. International collaborative efforts and exhaustive neurological registries will enhance the translational knowledge of COVID-19's central and peripheral neurological involvement and generate therapeutic decision-making strategies.

    The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been associated with survival in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). However, no study has examined the prognostic value of NLR and PLR in the context of CTCs.

    Baseline CTCs from mCRPC patients were enumerated using the CellSearch System. Baseline NLR and PLR values were calculated using the data from routine complete blood counts. The associations of CTC, NLR, and PLR values, individually and jointly, with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis, as well as univariate and multivariate Cox models.

    CTCs were detected in 37 (58.7%) of 63 mCRPC patients, and among them, 16 (25.4%) had ≥5 CTCs. The presence of CTCs was significantly associated with a 4.02-fold increased risk for progression and a 3.72-fold increased risk of death during a median follow-up of 17.6 months. OS was shorter among patients with high levels of NLR or nostic stratification in mCRPC.

Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is the gold standard to measure blood glucose control, which has important clinical significance for evaluating blood glucose control in diabetic patients in the past 3 months. This study aimed to assess whether preoperative HbA1c levels in diabetic patients who received CAG/PCI impacted the occurrence of postoperative CIN.

    We reviewed the incidence of preoperative HbA1c and postoperative CIN in 670 patients with CAG/PCI from January 1, 2020 to October 30, 2020 and divided the preoperative HbA1c levels into 5 groups. Blood samples were collected at admission, 48 h and 72 h after operation to measure the Scr value of patients. Categorical variables were compared using a chi-square test, and continuous variables were compared using an analysis of variance. Fisher's exact test was used to compare tho patients with elevated HbA1c at admission and take more active measures to prevent CIN.

    Provision of contraception to women in the immediate postnatal period has been endorsed by professional bodies, to reduce the incidence of short inter-pregnancy intervals. This study examined the views of postnatal women and practising midwives regarding provision of contraceptive advice and contraceptive methods by midwives, in a region of the United Kingdom.

    A mixed-method approach using qualitative interviews with midwives, and a postnatal survey followed by qualitative interviews with postnatal women, in five hospitals in the East of England. Twenty-one practising midwives and ten women were interviewed. Two hundred and twenty-seven women returned a survey. Survey data was analysed descriptively, augmented by Student's t-tests and Chi-squared tests to examine associations within the data. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed guided by the phases of thematic analysis.

    Midwives and women supported the concept of increased midwifery provision of contraceptive advice, and provision of contraceptive methods in the postnatal period.

This article reports a cross-sectional measurement of the level of implementation of such guidelines in fifteen community mental health centre units in Norway, and presents a novel fidelity scale to measure basic family involvement and support. The aim was to investigate current family involvement practices comprehensively, as a basis for targeted quality improvement. We employed three fidelity scales, with 12-14 items, to measure family involvement practices. Items were scored from 1 to 5, where 1 equals no implementation and 5 equals full implementation. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, a non-parametric test, and calculation of interrater reliability for the scales. An increasing number of publications report neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19. However, no studies have comprehensively reviewed the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of the central and peripheral nervous system's involvement in these patients. This study aimed to describe the features of the central and peripheral nervous system involvement by COVID-19 in terms of pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, neuropathology, neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and cerebrospinal fluid findings. We conducted a comprehensive systematic review of all the original studies reporting patients with neurological involvement by COVID-19, from December 2019 to June 2020, without language restriction. We excluded studies with animal subjects, studies not related to the nervous system, and opinion articles. The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been associated with survival in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). However, no study has examined the prognostic value of NLR and PLR in the context of CTCs. Baseline CTCs from mCRPC patients were enumerated using the CellSearch System. Baseline NLR and PLR values were calculated using the data from routine complete blood counts. The associations of CTC, NLR, and PLR values, individually and jointly, with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis, as well as univariate and multivariate Cox models. CTCs were detected in 37 (58.7%) of 63 mCRPC patients, and among them, 16 (25.4%) had ≥5 CTCs. The presence of CTCs was significantly associated with a 4.02-fold increased risk for progression and a 3.72-fold increased risk of death during a median follow-up of 17.6 months. OS was shorter among patients with high levels of NLR or nostic stratification in mCRPC. This study aimed to assess whether preoperative HbA1c levels in diabetic patients who received CAG/PCI impacted the occurrence of postoperative CIN. We reviewed the incidence of preoperative HbA1c and postoperative CIN in 670 patients with CAG/PCI from January 1, 2020 to October 30, 2020 and divided the preoperative HbA1c levels into 5 groups. Blood samples were collected at admission, 48 h and 72 h after operation to measure the Scr value of patients. Categorical variables were compared using a chi-square test, and continuous variables were compared using an analysis of variance. A mixed-method approach using qualitative interviews with midwives, and a postnatal survey followed by qualitative interviews with postnatal women, in five hospitals in the East of England. Twenty-one practising midwives and ten women were interviewed. Two hundred and twenty-seven women returned a survey. Survey data was analysed descriptively, augmented by Student's t-tests and Chi-squared tests to examine associations within the data. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed guided by the phases of thematic analysis. Midwives and women supported the concept of increased midwifery provision of contraceptive advice, and provision of contraceptive methods in the postnatal period.

Arterial and venous blood pressures, Qpv, extrasplanchnic inferior vena cava (Qivc), superior mesenteric (Qsma), hepatic (Qha), and carotid artery blood flows (Qca) were measured in 14 anesthetized and mechanically ventilated pigs in supine and 30° TP during end-expiratory hold at 5 cmH2O positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and during inspiratory hold with Paw of 15, 20, 25, and 30 cmH2O. After major liver resection, the interventions were repeated in seven randomly selected animals. At baseline, TP increased right atrial pressure (Pra) and Qpv but not Qivc or Qsma. With increased Paw in the supine position, Pra increased and all regional blood flows decreased. TP during increasing Paw attenuated the decrease in Qpv, Qsma, and Qivc but not in Qha or Qca. After liver resection, the effects of TP during increasing Paw remained, albeit at higher portal vein pressures. However, TP alone did not increase IVC venous return. Increasing Paw in supine position reduces Qpv and all other regional flows, while the reduction in Qpv is attenuated in TP, suggesting partly preserved liver waterfall or decreased intrahepatic resistance. We determined the fungal community composition and structure. We surprisingly found that rhizosphere soil fungal diversity of D. indica increases across the altitude gradient. There was a slight diversity difference among high and medium site samples with medium sites being on the top. Furthermore the rhizosphere soil fungal community composition and structure kept changing along the altitudinal gradient. The hypotheses were as follows (1) secondary ACI will render inferior functional outcomes and an increased clinical failure rate as compared with primary ACI, (2) secondary OCA will render comparable results to 30.3 years (range, 14.9-49.9 years) at the time of ACI and 35.4 (range, 15-54.5) at the time of OCA. There was no difference between the primary and secondary groups with regard to postoperative functional scores, subjective satisfaction, reoperation rate, and clinical failure rate. We used a high-performance Bayesian machine learning approach designed for censored survival data, accelerated failure time Bayesian additive regression trees model (AFT-BART), to flexibly capture the relationships between the failure time and predictors. We then used the counterfactual framework to draw Markov chain Monte Carlo samples of the individual treatment effect for each participant. Using these posterior samples, we explored the possible treatment effect heterogeneity via a stepwise binary tree approach.     The provision of potentially non-beneficial life-sustaining treatments (LSTs) remains a challenging problem. In 2005, legislation in France established an interprofessional process by which non-beneficial LSTs could be withheld or withdrawn, permitting exploration of the effects of such a legally-protected process and its implementation.

    To characterize intensive care unit (ICU) interprofessional team decision-making and consensus-building practices regarding withholding and withdrawing of LSTs in two Parisian hospitals and to explore physician and nurse perceptions of and experiences with these practices.

    This was an exploratory qualitative study utilizing thematic analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews of physicians and nurses purposively sampled based on level of training and experience from two hospitals in Paris, France.

    A total of 25 participants were interviewed. Participants reported that the two Parisian hospitals in this study have each created an interprofessional process for withirected at withholding or withdrawing potentially non-beneficial LSTs in the United States and elsewhere.It has been reported that caveolin-1 (Cav-1) acts as a tumor promoter in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our previous studies showed that Cav-1 promoted mouse hepatocarcinoma cell adhesion to fibronectin by upregulating β-galactoside α2,6-sialyltransferase I (ST6Gal-I) expression. However, the detailed mechanism by which Cav-1 regulates ST6Gal-I is not fully understood. In this study, we found that the expression levels of Cav-1 and ST6Gal-I were increased in HCC tissues and correlated with poor prognosis. Cav-1 upregulated ST6Gal-I expression to promote the migration and invasion of HCC cells by inducing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. Importantly, the binding of the transcription factor nuclear receptor 4A2/retinoid X receptor alpha (NR4A2/RXRα) to the -550/-200 region of the ST6GAL1 promoter was critical for Cav-1-induced ST6GAL1 gene expression. Furthermore, Cav-1 expression activated the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/AKT/mTOR) signaling pathway, followed by upregulation of NR4A2 expression and phosphorylation of RXRα, which facilitated the complex of NR4A2 and phosphorylated RXRα forming and binding to the ST6GAL1 promoter region to induce its transcription. Finally, in the diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced HCC murine model, the expression levels of NR4A2, p-RXRα, ST6Gal-I, and α2,6-linked sialic acid decreased in parallel in Cav-1-/- **** compared with Cav-1+/+ ****, which was consistent with the above in vitro results. These findings provide insight into the mechanism of ST6GAL1 gene transcription mediated by Cav-1, which may lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting metastasis in HCC.In aquaculture, commercial fish such as red hybrid tilapia are usually raised at high density to boost the production within a short period of time. This overcrowded environment, however, may cause stress to the cultured fish and increase susceptibility to infectious diseases. Antibiotics and chemotherapeutics are used by fish farmers to overcome these challenges, but this may increase the production cost. Studies have reported on the potential of mushroom polysaccharides that can act as immunostimulants to enhance the immune response and disease resistance in fish. In the current study, hot water extract (HWE) from mushroom stalk waste (MSW) was used to formulate fish feed and hence administered to red hybrid tilapia to observe the activation of immune system. Upon 30 days of feeding, the fish were challenged with pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and polyinosinicpolycytidylic acid (poly (IC)) to mimic bacterial and viral infection, respectively. HWE supplementation promoted better feed utilisation in red hybrid tilapia although it did not increase the body weight gain and specific growth rate compared to the control diet. The innate immunological parameters such as phagocytic activity and respiratory burst activity were significantly higher in HWE-supplemented group than that of the control group following PAMPs challenges. HWE-supplemented diet also resulted in higher mRNA transcription of il1b and tnfa in midgut, spleen and head kidney at 1-day post PAMPs injection. Tlr3 exhibited the highest upregulation in the HWE fed fish injected with poly (IC). At 3-days post PAMPs injection, both ighm and tcrb expression were upregulated significantly in the spleen and head kidney. In 2005, legislation in France established an interprofessional process by which non-beneficial LSTs could be withheld or withdrawn, permitting exploration of the effects of such a legally-protected process and its implementation. To characterize intensive care unit (ICU) interprofessional team decision-making and consensus-building practices regarding withholding and withdrawing of LSTs in two Parisian hospitals and to explore physician and nurse perceptions of and experiences with these practices. This was an exploratory qualitative study utilizing thematic analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews of physicians and nurses purposively sampled based on level of training and experience from two hospitals in Paris, France. A total of 25 participants were interviewed. Participants reported that the two Parisian hospitals in this study have each created an interprofessional process for withirected at withholding or withdrawing potentially non-beneficial LSTs in the United States and elsewhere.It has been reported that caveolin-1 (Cav-1) acts as a tumor promoter in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our previous studies showed that Cav-1 promoted mouse hepatocarcinoma cell adhesion to fibronectin by upregulating β-galactoside α2,6-sialyltransferase I (ST6Gal-I) expression. However, the detailed mechanism by which Cav-1 regulates ST6Gal-I is not fully understood. In this study, we found that the expression levels of Cav-1 and ST6Gal-I were increased in HCC tissues and correlated with poor prognosis. Cav-1 upregulated ST6Gal-I expression to promote the migration and invasion of HCC cells by inducing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. Importantly, the binding of the transcription factor nuclear receptor 4A2/retinoid X receptor alpha (NR4A2/RXRα) to the -550/-200 region of the ST6GAL1 promoter was critical for Cav-1-induced ST6GAL1 gene expression. Furthermore, Cav-1 expression activated the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/AKT/mTOR) signaling pathway, followed by upregulation of NR4A2 expression and phosphorylation of RXRα, which facilitated the complex of NR4A2 and phosphorylated RXRα forming and binding to the ST6GAL1 promoter region to induce its transcription. Finally, in the diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced HCC murine model, the expression levels of NR4A2, p-RXRα, ST6Gal-I, and α2,6-linked sialic acid decreased in parallel in Cav-1-/- mice compared with Cav-1+/+ mice, which was consistent with the above in vitro results. These findings provide insight into the mechanism of ST6GAL1 gene transcription mediated by Cav-1, which may lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting metastasis in HCC.In aquaculture, commercial fish such as red hybrid tilapia are usually raised at high density to boost the production within a short period of time. This overcrowded environment, however, may cause stress to the cultured fish and increase susceptibility to infectious diseases. Antibiotics and chemotherapeutics are used by fish farmers to overcome these challenges, but this may increase the production cost. Studies have reported on the potential of mushroom polysaccharides that can act as immunostimulants to enhance the immune response and disease resistance in fish. In the current study, hot water extract (HWE) from mushroom stalk waste (MSW) was used to formulate fish feed and hence administered to red hybrid tilapia to observe the activation of immune system. Upon 30 days of feeding, the fish were challenged with pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and polyinosinicpolycytidylic acid (poly (IC)) to mimic bacterial and viral infection, respectively. HWE supplementation promoted better feed utilisation in red hybrid tilapia although it did not increase the body weight gain and specific growth rate compared to the control diet. The innate immunological parameters such as phagocytic activity and respiratory burst activity were significantly higher in HWE-supplemented group than that of the control group following PAMPs challenges. HWE-supplemented diet also resulted in higher mRNA transcription of il1b and tnfa in midgut, spleen and head kidney at 1-day post PAMPs injection. Tlr3 exhibited the highest upregulation in the HWE fed fish injected with poly (IC). At 3-days post PAMPs injection, both ighm and tcrb expression were upregulated significantly in the spleen and head kidney. Results showed that HWE supplementation enhances the immune responses of red hybrid tilapia and induced a higher serum bactericidal activity against S. agalactiae.
