    The aim of this study was to observe the dental condition in a group of elderly patients over a period of 10years in order to clarify important risk factors.

    Participants were elderly patients (in their eighties) who took panoramic radiographs between 2015 and 2016, and for whom panoramic radiographs taken around 10year earlier were also available. The number of remaining and lost teeth, the Eichner Index, the presence or absence of molar occlusion, the respective condition of dental pulp, dental crowns, alveolar bone resorption, as well as periapical lesions were investigated through the analysis of panoramic radiographs. Additionally, other important variables were collected from patients' medical records. From the obtained panoramic radiograph sets, the patients' dental condition was investigated, and a systematic comparison was conducted.

    The analysis of the panoramic radiographs showed that the number of remaining teeth decreased from an average of 20.8-15.5, and the percentage of patients with 20 or more teeth decreased from 69.2 to 26.9%. A factor analysis investigating tooth loss risk suggested that tooth loss was associated with the bridge, P2 or greater resorption of the alveolar bone, and apical lesions, and gender (with males having a higher risk compared to females).

    Teeth showing P2 or greater alveolar bone resorption, bridge, and apical lesions on panoramic radiographs are most likely to be lost in an elderly patient's near future. The best survival data were obtained with a dose of 72µg of carboplatin administered by means of Alzet® osmotic pumps over 7days. This resulted in a MeST of > 180days, with 55% LTS. The interactivity between miR-126-5p and MALAT1 (or CREB1) was assessed by dual luciferase reporter system. Knockdown of MALAT1 or CREB1 restrained proliferation and induced apoptosis as confirmed by upregulating cleaved caspase-3 and Bax, and down-regulating Bcl-2 in HESCs, while inhibition of miR-126-5p presented the opposite results. The extent of the scission suggests that the coumarin dimers are molecular "weak links" within the matrix, and, by analogy, sulfur bridges are likely to be the same in vulcanized rubbers. The mechanophore is embedded in polymer main chains, grafting agent, and cross-linker positions in a polymer composite in order to generate experimental data to understand how macroscopic mechanical stress is transferred at the molecular scale especially in highly entangled cross-linked polymer nanocomposite. Finally, the extent of activation is enhanced by approximately an order of magnitude by changing the regiochemistry and stereochemistry of the coumarin dimer and embedding the mechanophore at the heterointerface of the particle-reinforced elastomer.Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign locally aggressive tumor that occurs in childhood and early adulthood. In all three cases, a significant reduction of the volume of the ABC was achieved. This is the first report about the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in ABC. Chemotherapy reduces the size of an ABC and leads to progressive sclerosis.
    Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common type of hair loss. Androgens and genetic factors are responsible for pathogenesis. Blood groups are genetic markers that are used to identify human gene variation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the blood group distribution in patients with AGA and to compare it with healthy population.

    A total of 207 patients diagnosed with AGA in dermatology clinic and whose blood group records were available, between 2010 and 2019, were included in the study. Six hundred forty two healthy individuals who matched with the patient group in terms of age and sex, who attending to the family medicine outpatient clinic of our hospital in order to learn their blood groups were included as the control group.

    When the results were compared, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups (P˃.05).

    Adult (>18 years) AMI admissions were identified using the National Inpatient Sample (2000-2017). Seasons were classified as spring, summer, fall, and winter. Outcomes of interest included prevalence, in-hospital mortality, use of coronary angiography, and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Subgroup analyses for type of AMI and patient characteristics were performed.

    Of the 10 880 856 AMI admissions, 24.3%, 22.9%, 22.2%, and 24.2% were admitted in spring, summer, fall, and winter, respectively. The four cohorts had comparable age, sex, race, and comorbidities distribution. Rates of coronary angiography and PCI were slightly but significantly lower in winter (62.6% and 40.7%) in comparison to the other seasons (64-65% and 42-43%, respectively) (P < .001). Compared to spring, winter admissions had higher in-hospital mortality (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.07; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.06-1.08), whereas summer (aOR 0.97; 95% CI 0.96-0.98) and fall (aOR 0.98; 95% CI 0.97-0.99) had slightly lower in-hospital mortality (P < .001). ST-segment elevation (10.0% vs 9.1%; aOR 1.07; 95% CI 1.06-1.08) and non-ST-segment elevation (4.7% vs 4.2%; aOR 1.07; 95% CI 1.06-1.09) AMI admissions in winter had higher in-hospital mortality compared to spring (P < .001).   • Ethyl pyruvate (EP), a stable form of pyruvate, has shown beneficial effects in animal models of shock, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and sepsis due to its potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Our recent study demonstrated that EP application prevented the clinical manifestation of type 1 diabetes in **** by augmenting regulatory T cell (Treg) number and function. Our present study shows that EP increases Treg proliferation and suppressive function (perforin and IL-10 expression) during in vitro differentiation from conventional CD4+CD25- T cells. Enhanced expansion of Treg after EP treatment correlated with increased ATP levels and relied on increased glycolysis. Inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation did not attenuate EP stimulatory effects, suggesting that this metabolic pathway was not mandatory for EP-driven Treg proliferation. Moreover, EP lowered the expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I, an enzyme involved in fatty acid oxidation. Further, the stimulatory effect of EP on Treg proliferation was not mediated through inhibition of the mTOR signaling pathway. When given in vivo either intraperitoneally or orally to healthy C57BL/6 ****, EP increased the number of Treg within the peritoneal cavity or gut-associated lymphoid tissue, respectively. At room temperature, the PPC effect was observed to be more accentuated in single nanowire devices. It was found that nanowire-nanowire junctions play a fundamental role in the device behavior the decay time of nanowire network (τ = 52 s) is about three orders of magnitude lower than those of single nanowire (τ = 4.57 x 104s). Additionally, it was confirmed that the PPC effect was directly related to the amount of oxygen present in the environment and it is destroyed with increasing temperature. Furthermore, the PPC effect was interpreted based on the surface effect that depends on the capture/emission of electrons by the surface states.

We selected two soil endmembers with differing compositions, separated them into different size fractions, and characterized the surface area, cation exchange capacity (CEC), mineralogy, sulfur, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations. We determined that the inverse percent abundance of quartz and the CEC best predict beryllium sorption potential in these soils. By deriving a model that relates these two variables to the percent sorbed beryllium, we were able to predict the sorption capacity of our system and reduced the error in sorbed beryllium amounts due to differences in soil properties by about 42%. From these results, we provide insight as to why there is inconsistency in the literature with regards to the physio-chemical controls on the environmental behavior of beryllium.
    Ethyl pyruvate (EP), a stable form of pyruvate, has shown beneficial effects in animal models of shock, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and sepsis due to its potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Our recent study demonstrated that EP application prevented the clinical manifestation of type 1 diabetes in mice by augmenting regulatory T cell (Treg) number and function. Our present study shows that EP increases Treg proliferation and suppressive function (perforin and IL-10 expression) during in vitro differentiation from conventional CD4+CD25- T cells. Enhanced expansion of Treg after EP treatment correlated with increased ATP levels and relied on increased glycolysis. Inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation did not attenuate EP stimulatory effects, suggesting that this metabolic pathway was not mandatory for EP-driven Treg proliferation. Moreover, EP lowered the expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I, an enzyme involved in fatty acid oxidation. Further, the stimulatory effect of EP on Treg proliferation was not mediated through inhibition of the mTOR signaling pathway. When given in vivo either intraperitoneally or orally to healthy C57BL/6 mice, EP increased the number of Treg within the peritoneal cavity or gut-associated lymphoid tissue, respectively. In conclusion, EP promotes in vitro Treg proliferation through increased glycolysis and enhances Treg proliferation when administered in vivo.The persistent photoconductivity (PPC) effect is a commonly observed behavior in SnO2nanostructures. Here we described and studied this effect through a comparative study, based on measurements of electronic transport using network as well as single devices built from SnO2nanowires under different experimental conditions. At room temperature, the PPC effect was observed to be more accentuated in single nanowire devices. It was found that nanowire-nanowire junctions play a fundamental role in the device behavior the decay time of nanowire network (τ = 52 s) is about three orders of magnitude lower than those of single nanowire (τ = 4.57 x 104s). Additionally, it was confirmed that the PPC effect was directly related to the amount of oxygen present in the environment and it is destroyed with increasing temperature. Profiling and fingerprinting strategies, conducted by LC-MS/MS-FL, were employed to find markers of plant exposure to herbicide stress. The presence ofRIM metabolite in the tissues of plant exposed to this herbicide proved that it is necessary to determine both parent compound and its by-products to obtain reliable information on plant exposure to agrochemicals. A higher content of normetanephrine (NMN) (18-175%) and lower content of tyramine (TYR) (49-75%) and epinephrine (E) (75-83%) was observed in plant tissues exposed to RIM and 2ADP in comparison to blank sample. Therefore, NMN, TRY and E may be considered as markers of plant response to RIM. Non-target analysis enables to recognize the type of herbicide used during cultivation.Carbon/ZnO coaxial microfibers were synthesized with the hypha of Penicillium expansum as low-cost and green template. The SEM images, XRD and Raman spectra were used to characterize the morphology and chemical components of the prepared microfibers. The formation of the coaxial structure could be attributed to the attachment of Zn2+ onto the hypha surface through coordination and electrostatic interactions. Sensing performance of the carbon/ZnO microfibers toward Dopamine (DA) were evaluated by dropping method. Results showed that the proposed sensor exhibited good selectivity, reproducibility, and stability with a detection limit of 0.106 μM. Two linear ranges were obtained from 0 to 50 and 50 to 300 μM. The present article investigates numerically the theoretical aspects of heat and mass transportation in peristaltic pattern of Carreau fluid through a curved channel. The computations for axial velocity, pressure rise, temperature field, mass concentration, and stream function are carried out under low Reynolds number and long wavelength approximation in the wave frame of reference by utilizing appropriate numerical implicit finite difference technique (FDM). The implementation of numerical procedure and graphical representation of the computations are accomplished using MATLAB language. The impacts of rheological parameters of Carreau fluid, Brinkmann number, curvature parameter and Hartmann number are shown and discussed briefly. The study shows that for shear thinning of bio-materials, the velocity exhibits the boundary layer character near the boundary walls for greater Hartmann number. The interesting observations based on numerical simulations are graphically elaborated. The results show that the curvature of channel with larger value allows more heat transportation within the flow domain. On the contrary, inside the channel wall, the solutal mass concentration follows an increasing trend with decreasing the channel curvature. The temperature profile enhanced with increment of power-law index and curvature parameter. Moreover, the concentration profile increases with Brinkmann number and Hartmann number.The study objective was to assess the impact of soybean (SO) and linseed oil (**) added to feed mixture for laying hens upon the quality characteristics of table eggs, their fatty acid (FA) profile and cholesterol level. Molecular phylogenetic trees based on both nuclear small subunit (SSU) and concatenated SSU and large subunit (LSU) ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences revealed that the new parasitoid was nested within the family Parviluciferaceae and had a sister relationship with P. infectans. Based on morphological, ultrastructural, and molecular data, we propose to erect a new species, P. multicavata sp. nov., for the new parasitoid found in this study.
    To investigate the relationship between osteocalcin and osteoprotegerin as bone markers and inflammatory biomarkers such as adiponectin, leptin, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in children with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

    This study included 40 obese children with NAFLD as the patient group and 40 healthy obese children of matched age, sex and BMI as the control group. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, Homeostatic model assessment method of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), lipid profile, osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin, adiponectin, leptin, TNF-α, and IL-6 were measured in all participants.

    Children with NAFLD had a significant decrease in osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin and adiponectin level with a significant increase in TNF-α and IL-6 levels. We also found a significant positive correlation between osteocalcin level and adiponectin levels but a significant negative correlation of osteocalcin with each of leptin and TNF-α.

C. difficile exhibits a very high level of resistance to lysozyme. Bacteria commonly resist lysozyme through modification of the cell wall. In C. difficile, σV is required for lysozyme resistance, and σV is activated in response to lysozyme. Once activated, σV, encoded by csfV, directs transcription of genes necessary for lysozyme resistance. Here, we analyze the contribution of individual genes in the σV regulon to lysozyme resistance. Using CRISPR-Cas9-mediated mutagenesis we constructed in-frame deletions of single genes in the csfV operon. We find that pdaV, which encodes a peptidoglycan deacetylase, is partially responsible for lysozyme resistance. We then performed CRISPR inhibition (CRISPRi) to identify a second peptidoglycan deacetylase, encoded by pgdA, that is important for lysozyme resistance. Deletion of either pgdA or pdaV resulted in modest decreases in lysozyme residoglycan deacetylases in C. difficile are partially redundant and are required for lysozyme resistance. While the majority of jumbo phage genes are poorly functionally characterized, recent work has discovered many unique biological features, including a conserved tubulin homolog that coordinates a proteinaceous nucleus-like compartment that houses and segregates phage DNA. The tubulin spindle displays dynamic instability and centers the phage nucleus within the bacterial host during phage infection for optimal reproduction. The shell provides robust physical protection for the enclosed phage genomes against attack from DNA-targeting bacterial immune systems, thereby endowing jumbo phages with broad resistance. In this review, we focus on the current knowledge of the cytoskeletal elements and the specialized nuclear compartment derived from jumbo phages, and we highlight their importance in facilitating spatial and temporal organization over the viral life cycle. Additionally, we discuss the evolutionary relationships between jumbo phages and eukaryotic viruses, as well as the therapeutic potential and drawbacks of jumbo phages as antimicrobial agents in phage therapy.Clostridioides difficile is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium that can produce the large clostridial toxins toxin A and toxin B, encoded within the pathogenicity locus (PaLoc). The binding to the DNA secondary structures is mediated through the oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide binding fold (OB-fold) domain present at the C terminus of the protein. This domain was previously also proposed to be responsible for the inhibitory effect on toxin gene expression, implicating a cytoplasmic localization of the OB-fold. In C. difficile, σV is required for lysozyme resistance, and σV is activated in response to lysozyme. Once activated, σV, encoded by csfV, directs transcription of genes necessary for lysozyme resistance. Here, we analyze the contribution of individual genes in the σV regulon to lysozyme resistance. Using CRISPR-Cas9-mediated mutagenesis we constructed in-frame deletions of single genes in the csfV operon. We find that pdaV, which encodes a peptidoglycan deacetylase, is partially responsible for lysozyme resistance. We then performed CRISPR inhibition (CRISPRi) to identify a second peptidoglycan deacetylase, encoded by pgdA, that is important for lysozyme resistance. The tubulin spindle displays dynamic instability and centers the phage nucleus within the bacterial host during phage infection for optimal reproduction. The shell provides robust physical protection for the enclosed phage genomes against attack from DNA-targeting bacterial immune systems, thereby endowing jumbo phages with broad resistance. In this review, we focus on the current knowledge of the cytoskeletal elements and the specialized nuclear compartment derived from jumbo phages, and we highlight their importance in facilitating spatial and temporal organization over the viral life cycle. However, BVP patients frequently present with a concomitant sensorineural hearing loss, which is a well-established risk factor of cognitive impairment and incident dementia. Nonetheless, previous research on spatial cognitive deficits in BVP patients have not taken hearing status into account. Objective This study aims to compare spatial cognition of BVP patients with healthy controls, with analyses adjusting for hearing status. Methods Spatial cognition was assessed in 64 BVP patients and 46 healthy controls (HC) by use of the Virtual Morris Water Task (VMWT). All statistical analyses were adjusted for hearing (dys)function, sex, age, education, and computer use. Results Overall, patients with BVP performed worse on all outcome measures of the VMWT. However, these differences between BVP patients and healthy controls were not statistically significant. Nonetheless, a statistically significant link between sensorineural hearing loss and spatial cognition was observed. The worse the hearing, the longer subjects took to reach the hidden platform in the VMWT. Furthermore, the worse the hearing, the less time was spent by the subjects in the correct platform quadrant during the probe trial of the VMWT. Conclusion In this study, no difference was found regarding spatial cognition between BVP patients and healthy controls. Five complex visual tasks were completed, including line discrimination, object discrimination, facial discrimination, visual working memory, and object rotation. There were no significant differences in performance between the off and on medication state in persons with PD. Connexin 43 (Cx43), the predominant connexin protein in astrocytes, has been recently proven to display non-substitutable roles in the pathology of ischemic stroke development and progression through forming gap junctions and hemichannels. Under normal conditions, astrocytic Cx43 could be found in hemichannels or in the coupling with other hemichannels on astrocytes, neurons, or oligodendrocytes to form the neuro-glial syncytium, which is involved in metabolites exchange between communicated cells, thus maintaining the homeostasis of the CNS environment. In ischemic stroke, the phosphorylation of Cx43 might cause the degradation of gap junctions and the opening of hemichannels, contributing to the release of inflammatory mediators. However, the remaining gap junctions could facilitate the exchange of protective and harmful metabolites between healthy and injured cells, protecting the injured cells to some extent or damaging the healthy cells depending on the balance of the exchange of protective and harmful metabolites. In this study, we review the changes in astrocytic Cx43 expression and distribution as well as the influence of these changes on the function of astrocytes and other cells in the CNS, providing new insight into the pathology of ischemic stroke injury; we also discuss the potential of astrocytic Cx43 as a target for the treatment of ischemic stroke.One-fourths of the patients have medication-resistant seizures and require seizure detection and treatment continuously to cope with sudden seizures. Seizures can be detected by monitoring the brain and muscle activities, heart rate, oxygen level, artificial sounds, or visual signatures through EEG, EMG, ECG, motion, or audio/video recording on the human head and body. In this article, we first discuss recent advances in seizure sensing, signal processing, time- or frequency-domain analysis, and classification algorithms to detect and classify seizure stages. Then, we show a strong potential of applying recent advancements in non-invasive brain stimulation technology to treat seizures. In particular, we explain the fundamentals of brain stimulation approaches, including (1) transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), (2) transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), (3) transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (tFUS), and how to use them to treat seizures. Through this review, we intend to provide a broad view of both recent seizure diagnoses and treatments.

  • Objectives In response to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, traditional, in-person neuropsychological assessment services paused in most settings. Neuropsychologists have sought to establish new guidelines and care models using telehealth neuropsychology (teleNP) services. The need to adapt to remote technology became the most difficult challenge to date for existing practice models. Results Primary considerations for transitioning to teleNP include scope and limitations of the telehealth modality, informed consent for telehealth services, patient privacy and confidentiality, test security, and validity of telehealth assessments. Given timelines for fully re-opening clinical settings, access to traditional models of neuropsychological care remains unclear. These considerations will remain relevant even upon return to an in-office practice, as many assessment models will likely continue with teleNP to some extent. Specialists will need to consider the unique needs of their populations in ensuring quality care, as diagnostic differences and patient age will impact participation in teleNP. Conclusions As the COVID-19 pandemic lingers, teleNP presents an opportunity as well as a challenge for neuropsychologists looking to provide patient care in the context of social distancing and stay-at-home restrictions. In this transformative time, the field of neuropsychology has opportunities to advance beyond traditional settings and focus on alternative delivery of patient care.Plantar vein thrombosis is an uncommon and under-diagnosed cause of plantar foot pain characterised by the formation of a blood clot (thrombus) within one of the plantar veins. There is no current diagnostic guideline for this condition however compression ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging appear suitable. Treatments range from rest and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to six months of anticoagulant therapy. A 51-year old female was referred reporting a two-week history of left heel pain suspicious of plantar fasciitis. Ultrasonography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging showed thickening and expansion of the lateral plantar vein. The patient's symptoms disappeared following two weeks of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication and compression therapy, and follow-up ultrasound six weeks later showed recanalisation of the lateral plantar vein.The two leading yeast pathogens of humans, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans, cause systemic infections in >1.4 million patients worldwide with mortality rates approaching 75%. It is thus imperative to study fungal virulence mechanisms, efficacy of antifungal drugs, and host response pathways. While this is commonly done in mammalian models, which are afflicted by ethical and practical concerns, invertebrate models, such as wax moth larvae and nematodes have been introduced over the last two decades. To complement existing invertebrate host models, we developed fifth instar caterpillars of the Tobacco Hornworm moth Manduca sexta as a novel host model. In the present study, we investigated the clinical significance of microRNA-125b (miR-125b) and its role in ovarian tumorigenesis and progression. Seventy patients of EOC and paired tissues were enrolled from 2015 to 2017. qRT-PCR was used to evaluate miR-125b expression in tumor tissues and EOC cell line. Gain-and-loss function of miR-125b was achieved to explore the changes in cell biological function. We found that miR-125b expression in EOC tissues, especially in the high-grade tissues (P less then 0.001), was significantly lower compared to the matched adjacent noncancerous tissues and associated with pathological type, stage, and overall survival (P less then 0.05). Upregulation of miR-125b promoted apoptosis and decreased cell survival rate and migration, and vice versa in vitro. Mechanistically, miR-125b negatively regulated S100A4, a metastasis-associated protein. MiR-125b overexpression significantly decreased tumor growth and inhibited lung metastasis in vivo. Our results supported that miR-125b contributes to the progression of EOC by targeting S100A4. It potentially acts as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target of EOC.Plant architecture and disease resistance are the key factors that control the production of yield. However, the mechanism behind these factors is largely unknown. In this study, we identified that indeterminate domain 3 (IDD3) was obviously induced by inoculation of Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA. Plants that overexpressed IDD3 (IDD3 OX) were more susceptible, while idd3 mutants showed a similar response to sheath blight disease compared with wild-type plants. Interestingly, IDD3 OX plants developed a wider tiller angle and exhibited altered shoot gravitropism, while idd3 knock-out mutants showed no visible morphological differences compared with the wild-type plants. IDD3 is ubiquitously expressed in different tissues and stages, and the IDD3 transcript was induced by exogenously applied auxin. Expression of the PIN-FORMED (PIN) and Aux/IAA genes was altered in IDD3 OX compared with wild-type plants. Furthermore, IDD3 OX plants are sensitive to auxin and the polar auxin transporter inhibitor N-1-naphthylphalamic acid (NPA). Further yeast-one hybrid, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and transient assays revealed that IDD3 directly represses PIN1b via promoter binding. Inoculation with R. solani indicated that PIN1b RNAi plants are more susceptible to sheath blight disease (ShB) compared with the wild-type. Taken together, our analyses suggest that IDD3 controls plant architecture and the resistance of rice to ShB via the regulation of PIN auxin transporter genes.

While this is commonly done in mammalian models, which are afflicted by ethical and practical concerns, invertebrate models, such as wax moth larvae and nematodes have been introduced over the last two decades. Seventy patients of EOC and paired tissues were enrolled from 2015 to 2017. qRT-PCR was used to evaluate miR-125b expression in tumor tissues and EOC cell line. Gain-and-loss function of miR-125b was achieved to explore the changes in cell biological function. We found that miR-125b expression in EOC tissues, especially in the high-grade tissues (P less then 0.001), was significantly lower compared to the matched adjacent noncancerous tissues and associated with pathological type, stage, and overall survival (P less then 0.05). Upregulation of miR-125b promoted apoptosis and decreased cell survival rate and migration, and vice versa in vitro. Mechanistically, miR-125b negatively regulated S100A4, a metastasis-associated protein. MiR-125b overexpression significantly decreased tumor growth and inhibited lung metastasis in vivo.     Severe baclofen toxicity can result in respiratory failure, hemodynamic instability, bradycardia, hypothermia, seizures, coma, and death. While hemodialysis (HD) is well-described in treating acute baclofen toxicity in patients with end-stage kidney disease or acute kidney injury, the utility of HD for patients with normal kidney function is uncertain. Implementing HD to speed recovery after a large acute baclofen ingestion is appealing, considering (a) potential for prolonged coma and ventilator-associated morbidity, and (b) baclofen's low protein-binding, low molecular-weight, and moderate volume of distribution.

    We report a 51 kg, 14-year-old girl who presented to the emergency department (ED) with hypotension, obtundation, and status epilepticus after an intentional ingestion of 1200 mg baclofen. Her post-intubation neurologic examination was concerning for coma. A 14-hour post-ingestion baclofen concentration was 882 ng/mL (therapeutic range 80-400 ng/mL). Three urgent-HD sessions were performed to reduce her time on the ventilator.

    The total baclofen removed in the first three-hour HD session was 3.05 mg. The total urinary elimination of baclofen 42 mg over 24-hours on day one. She was discharged without neurologic deficits to psychiatry on day-14.

    In this case, the amount of baclofen recovered during HD is negligible in comparison to the amount cleared by kidney elimination in this patient with normal kidney function.

    We discuss telemedicine examination techniques for commonly encountered spine conditions.

    Techniques to evaluate gait, the cervical spine, the lumbar spine, adult spinal deformity patients, and adolescent scoliosis patients via telemedicine are described. We review limitations of the spine telemedicine examination and discuss special considerations such as patient safety and criteria for in-person assessment.

Choice assays contrasting leaves of healthy (****-inoculated) vs. infected maize (Zea mays L.) were conducted during the asymptomatic and symptomatic phases of plant infection, with leafhopper males or females previously exposed to infected plants (bacteriliferous insects) or not. In each assay, 40 adults were released in choice arenas where only the leaves of two plants from each treatment were offered and visible, and the insects landed on the leaves were counted 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 23 h after release. During the asymptomatic phase of plant infection, an effect was observed only on bacteriliferous females, who preferred leaves of healthy plants 5 h after release or later. The symptomatic phase triggered a pull-push effect on non-bacteriliferous females, who were first attracted to symptomatic leaves but hours later moved to healthy leaves. Non-bacteriliferous males initially preferred symptomatic leaves (up to 5 h after release) and later became equally distributed between treatments. Bacteriliferous males and females initially did not discriminate between healthy and symptomatic leaves, but only the females tended to move to healthy leaves 9 h after release. Oviposition was drastically reduced on symptomatic leaves. The changes in vector behavior induced by MBSP favor its primary spread, since bacteriliferous females prefer healthy leaves at early (asymptomatic) stages of the crop. Among them is the determination of the optimal stage of pollen induction for androgenesis. In this work, we developed Microscan, a deep learning-based system for the detection and recognition of the stages of pollen development. In a first experiment, the algorithm was developed adapting the RetinaNet predictive model using microspores of different eggplant accessions as samples. A mean average precision of 86.30% was obtained. In a second experiment, the anther range to be cultivated in vitro was determined in three eggplant genotypes by applying the Microscan system. Subsequently, they were cultivated following two different androgenesis protocols (Cb and E6). The response was only observed in the anther size range predicted by Microscan, obtaining the best results with the E6 protocol.
