    This study aimed to characterize sources of knowledge on the means of prevention of SARS-CoV-2 infections as well as to assess the methods of preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection among police employees in Poland and their potential impact on the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

We aimed to identify the risk factors for PVL after TAVI including patient (calcium amount or location), device (leakage-proof or not), and procedural (oversizing index (OI)) factors. The primary outcome was mild or greater PVL at 1-month follow-up echocardiography. Overall, 238 patients who underwent TAVI using eight types of valves (Edwards Sapien, Sapien XT, Sapien 3, CoreValve, Evolut R, Evolut PRO, Lotus, and Lotus Edge) were included. The incidence of significant PVL (≥mild PVL) was 24.4%. Our method comprises a two-stream ConvNet and a novel automatic annotation architecture able to reliably annotate key frames in a video for self-supervised learning of the ConvNet. The proposed ConvNet learns deep appearance and motion features to detect frames that are unique. The trained network is then able to detect key frames in test videos.     Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is the standard of care for descending thoracic aortic aneurysms (DTAA), and newer generation stent grafts have significant design improvements compared to earlier generation devices.

    We report the first commercial use of the Medtronic Valiant Navion stent graft for treatment of an 85-year-old woman with a 5.8 cm DTAA and a highly tortuous thoracic aorta.

    A percutaneous TEVAR was performed using a two-piece combination of the Valiant Navion FreeFlo and CoveredSeal stent graft configurations for zones 2-5 coverage. The devices were successfully delievered through highly tortuous anatomy and deployed, excluding the entire length of the aneurysm with precise landing, excellent apposition and no evidence of endoleak. The patient tolerated the procedure well and has had no stent graft-related complications through one-year follow-up.

    Design enhancements such as a lower profile delivery system, better conformability, and a shorter tapered tip are some of the improvements to this third-generation TEVAR device. Coupled with the multiple configuration options available, this gives physicians a better tool to treat thoracic aortic pathologies in patients with challenging anatomy. The early results are encouraging, and evaluation of long-term outcomes will continue.

Coinciding with these enhanced penalties was a demographic shift in the composition of those prosecuted for these offenses. In the federal criminal justice system, sex offenses fall into two main categories child pornography and sexual abuse. The racial and ethnic makeup of individuals charged for federal sex offenses has significantly changed over the past 15 years. The current study utilizes federal sentencing data from the United States Sentencing Commission for the years 2006 to 2017 to explore the nature of punishment for these offenses over time. We also employ multivariate analyses to examine differences in punishment for the two types of offenses and employ disaggregated analyses by offense type to examine temporal change in racial/ethnic disparities in sentence length and departures from the federal sentencing guidelines. Findings demonstrate that convicted individuals who are Black and Hispanic are receiving harsher sentences over time net of controls for other key predictors such as age, sex, criminal history, and presumptive sentence length. Implications for how legislatively enhanced penalties and changing demographic makeup of those convicted for these offenses may have introduced extra-legal disparity into federal sentencing are further discussed.Human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) belongs to a superfamily of metalloenzymes that reversibly catalyse the hydration of carbon dioxide to give bicarbonate (HCO3-) and proton (H+). Out of all the isoforms, hCA VII is predominantly expressed in the brain cortex and hippocampus region, which are the most affected area during seizure activity. Hence, we have identified some hCA VII inhibitors employing computational tools like atom-based 3D quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR), auto-QSAR, pharmacophore-based virtual screening, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Atom-based 3D QSAR modelling outperformed auto-QSAR with an R2 and Q2 value of 0.9634 and 0.9646, respectively. A four-feature pharmacophore model (AADR_1) was developed and a focussed library of around 3,00,000 compounds was screened. Compounds with a phase screen score >2.40 were selected for docking studies. The activity of the selected hits was predicted employing the developed 3D QSAR model. All of these might contribute to the progression of different pathologies such as brain cancers or neurodegenerative diseases. Although it is well known that BBB breakdown occurs due to pericyte malfunctioning or to the lack of stability of the blood vessels, its participation in the diverse neural diseases needs further elucidation. This review summarizes what it is known about BBB structure and function and how its instability might trigger or promote neuronal degeneration and glioma progression, with a special focus on the role of pericytes as key modulators of the vasculature. Moreover, we will discuss some recent reports that highlights the participation of the BBB alterations in glioma growth.     Physical and chemical tests were carried out in the laboratory after sampling water from each dialysis center. Water samples were collected from three locations in each dialysis center. Hospital municipal water samples were collected from the tanks feeding dialysis units; samples of dialysis water were collected from the dialysis water treatment unit outlets; and samples of dialysis water were collected from the distribution network in dialysis rooms.

    The results showed a fluctuation in the quality of the dialysis water (dialysis water and water from the dialysis distribution network), indicating that it is unacceptable compared to international standards. Chemical analysis showed that 75% of the dialysis water had elevated aluminum concentrations. Chemical analysis also found that dialysis water had elevated concentrations of free residual chlorine at some dialysis centers.

    All hemodialysis centers need careful monitoring and preventive maintenance to ensure good water quality. In addition, it is important to revise the design of the water treatment units according to water quality.

    Lead (Pb(II)) exposure from drinking water consumption is a serious concern due to its negative health effect on human physiology. A commercially available filter uses the adsorption potential of activated carbon for removing heavy metals like Pb(II). However, it has some constraints since it uses only surface area for the adsorption of these contaminants. Biochar produced via slow pyrolysis of biomass shows the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups on its surface that take part in the adsorption process, with higher removal potential compared to activated carbon.

    The current study examined the adsorption kinetics and mechanisms of Pb(II) removing potential of biochar from water using a fixed-bed continuous flow adsorption system.

    The effect of initial Pb(II) concentration, mass of adsorbent (bed depth), and flow rate on adsorption potential were evaluated. The Adams-Bohart model, Thomas model, and Yoon-Nelson model were applied to the adsorption data.

    The maximum removal efficiency of Pb(II) was 88.86 mg/g. The result illustrated that the Yoon-Nelson model is the best fit to analyze the adsorption phenomena of Pb(II) in a fixed-bed biochar column.

    The breakthrough data obtained from this study can be utilized to design a point of use filter that would be able to effectively remove Pb(II) from drinking water.

    Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is one of the largest sources of mercury (Hg) pollution in Indonesia. In West Java Province, ASGM is found in Bogor, Cianjur, and Sukabumi Regencies.

    The present study aimed to evaluate Hg contamination effects and socioeconomic factors in communities living around ASGM operations in Sukabumi Regency.

    A quantitative method was used to describe socioeconomic ASGM communities. The concentrations of total mercury (T-Hg) in hair were measured in 71 respondents. This study also assessed perception of the use of Hg in the gold ore processing and their impact on the environment.

    The population of gold miners in the studied three villages was 1300 households (25.77% from a total of 5044 households). Artisanal and small-scale gold mining involves both men and women employed as miners and gold amalgam processors, respectively. The average monthly income generated as **** as Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) 272 000-2 000 000 (about 19-140 USD). Total Hg analysis was conducted for hair samples of 71 respondents (38 men, 33 women).     Automobile spray painters in Nigeria are exposed to organic solvents due to the hazardous nature of their work. Inadequate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may intensify exposure to high levels of chemical hazards with resultant health problems.

    The present study assessed PPE use and work practices and compared work-related health problems of spray painters and controls in Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

    A cross-sectional study was conducted among 120 spray painters and 120 controls (electronic technicians). Data on socio-demographics, work practices, knowledge about organic solvent-related hazards and self-reported health symptoms were obtained using a semi-structured questionnaire. Clinical examinations were performed for all respondents and the composition of organic solvents in paints and paint products were derived from material safety data sheets.

    All respondents were male, and the mean age was 32.7±13.8 years for painters and 33.9±15.5 years for controls. Few (7.5%) painters perceived their use of ained from the Health Research and Ethics Committee of the Institute of Public Health, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Nigeria (HREC No IPHOAU/12/463).

Spondylocarpotarsal synostosis syndrome (SCT) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by short stature, fused vertebrae and fusion of carpal and tarsal bones. We present a novel FLNB homozygous pathogenic variant and present a carrier of the variant with short height.

    We describe a family with five patients affected with skeletal malformations, short stature and vertebral deformities. Exome sequencing revealed a novel homozygous frameshift variant c.2911dupG p.(Ala971GlyfsTer122) in FLNB, segregating with the phenotype in the family. The variant was absent in public databases and 100 ethnically matched control chromosomes. One of the heterozygous carriers of the variant had short stature.

    Our report expands the genetic spectrum of FLNB pathogenic variants. It also indicates a need to assess the heights of other carriers of FLNB recessive variants to explore a possible role in idiopathic short stature.

    Degenerative cartilage changes can be seen, in cases of lateral patellar compression syndrome, involving the patellofemoral joint. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the synovial fluid and responsible for its elastic features and function of articular surfaces. The aim of this study is to show the effect of intra-articular injection of Hyaluronic acid, after arthroscopic lateral release in lateral patellar compression syndrome, on the functional outcome and knee pain in those patients with degenerative cartilage changes.

    Ninety patients age (30-50) years with lateral patellar compression syndrome and degenerative cartilage changes were divided randomly into 2 groups. Group A was treated by arthroscopic lateral release and received intraarticular injection of Hyaluronic acid 2 weeks after surgery. Group B was treated by arthroscopic lateral release only. Both groups were assessed by Kujala score and visual analogue scale for knee pain preoperatively and re-assessed postoperatively at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months.

    There was significant improvement in Kujala score and Visual analogue scale post-operatively in both groups (P-value< 0.001) with better improvement in Kujala score in group A after intra-articular injection of Hyaluronic acid up to 2 year of follow up (P-value = 0.006) as well as better improvement in visual analogue score at 6 months post-operatively (P-value = 0.035).

    Intra-articular injection of Hyaluronic acid after arthroscopic release, in patients with lateral patellar compression syndrome and degenerative cartilage changes, can result in better improvement of knee pain and functional outcome up to 2 years of follow up.

    The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of neck, shoulder, and low-**** pain and to examine factors associated with musculoskeletal pain (MSP) among dental students at Ajman University and Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

    A cross-sectional study was conducted among dental students using an online questionnaire, which was a modified version of the Standardized Nordic questionnaire, focused on neck, shoulder and low-**** pain in the past week and the past year.

    A total of two hundred and two dental students (out of 368) responded to the questionnaire. The majority were female 75.2%. The prevalence of MSP in at least one body site in the past week, and in the past year was 48.5 and 68.3% respectively. The factors significantly associated with MSP in at least one body site at any time were having history of trauma (P = 0.009), lack of exercise (P = 0.001), longer clinical sessions (P = 0.000), and higher BMI (P = 0.010).

    The present study indicates that the prevalence of MSP among dental students in the UAE is high. Careful attention from dental colleges is needed to increase students' awareness of this problem. This study contributed to better understanding of MSP among dental professionals.

    To evaluate the clinical outcomes of arthroscopic tight fibrous band release in the treatment of adult moderate-to-severe gluteal fibrosis using anterior and posterior portals during mid-term follow-up.

    The data of 138 patients (58 males, 80 females) aged between 18 and 42 years (mean, 28.6 years), presenting with bilateral moderate-to-severe gluteal fibrosis (GF) from October 2013 to August 2019, was retrospectively analyzed. The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of neck, shoulder, and low-back pain and to examine factors associated with musculoskeletal pain (MSP) among dental students at Ajman University and Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences in United Arab Emirates (UAE). A cross-sectional study was conducted among dental students using an online questionnaire, which was a modified version of the Standardized Nordic questionnaire, focused on neck, shoulder and low-back pain in the past week and the past year. A total of two hundred and two dental students (out of 368) responded to the questionnaire. The majority were female 75.2%. The prevalence of MSP in at least one body site in the past week, and in the past year was 48.5 and 68.3% respectively. The factors significantly associated with MSP in at least one body site at any time were having history of trauma (P = 0.009), lack of exercise (P = 0.001), longer clinical sessions (P = 0.000), and higher BMI (P = 0.010). The present study indicates that the prevalence of MSP among dental students in the UAE is high. Careful attention from dental colleges is needed to increase students' awareness of this problem.     The databases were used to collect the effect of high expression and low expression of hormone receptors on the efficacy of endocrine therapy in breast cancer. Two evaluators independently screened the literature based on preset inclusion and exclusion criteria. The quality of the article was evaluated using a modified Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) system. The survival data included in the literature were extracted and the ln(hazard ratio (HR)) and se[ln(HR)] of the overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and recurrence-free survival (RFS) rates were calculated according to different level of hormone receptors. The RevMan 5.3 software was used to evaluate the meta-analysis.

    A total of 13 relevant literature were included in the study. There were 8318 estrogen receptor (ER)-positive and 7926 progesterone receptor (PR)-positive patients. Overall survival, DFS, and RFS rates in high expression of ER(+) patients were significantly higher in low expression of ER(+) patients (OS HR = .59, 95% confidence interval (CI) .46-.76,

The aim of this study was to clarify the portal perfusion area of the anterior segment and to propose a less invasive hepatectomy based on both the portal perfusion and the hepatic venous drainage.

    Three-dimensional computerized tomography images of 66 patients were constructed. A case, in which the perfusion area of the anterior segment crossed over superior right hepatic vein (SRHV), was called as SRHV-inclusion. It was defined as inclusion of more than 1cm of the proximal site of SRHV surrounded by the portal perfusion area of the anterior segment.

    SRHV-inclusion was observed in 26%. The cases with large inferior right hepatic vein (IRHV) had more frequent SRHV-inclusion (47%). The elderly patient with hepatic disorder, who had hepatocellular carcinoma near the root of the SRHV, underwent a less invasive hepatectomy (anterior segment + SRHV drainage area) resulting in the preservation of the IRHV.

A 2 × 2 × 2 analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to evaluate the main and interaction effects across mild TBI groups and PTSD diagnosis. Results Deployment TBI was associated with poorer outcomes on several cognitive tests Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, 4th edition (WAIS-IV); Working Memory Index (WMI; p = .018); Trail Making Test A (TMT-A; p less then .001); and Trail Making Test B (TMT-B; p = .002). Deployment TBI and PTSD were also associated with increased PTSD, depressive, and neurobehavioral symptoms; pain interference; and poorer sleep quality. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched to identify studies focusing on KCs and their modulation in IECs. The included studies were assessed using a reporting inclusiveness checklist. From the 745 identified records, 73 met the inclusion criteria; their reporting inclusiveness was moderate-high. Some studies described the physiological role of KCs, while others explored their importance in pathological settings. Globally, in IBD animal models, apical KCa1.1 channels, responsible for luminal secretion, were upregulated. In human colonocytes, basolateral KCa3.1 channels were downregulated. The pharmacological inhibition of K2P and Kv influenced intestinal barrier function, promoting inflammation. Evidence suggests a strong association between KCs expression and secretory mechanisms in human and animal IECs. Further research is warranted to explore the usefulness of KC pharmacological modulation as a therapeutic target.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important health care issue, and IL-17 can modulate inflammatory responses. We performed histological techniques, and linear mean intercept (Lm) was analyzed. Both treatments with anti-IL-17 decreased respiratory resistance and elastance, airway resistance, elastance of pulmonary parenchyma, eNO, and Lm compared with EC. There was reduction in total cells and macrophages in ET compared with EC. Intervention An interprofessional PPC curriculum was informed by a needs assessment.     The aim was to assess the influence of polymerization duration, method and resin manipulation techniques on the biaxial flexural strength (BFS) and degree of conversion (DC) of bulk fill resin composites (BFRC).

    One hundred and eighty disc specimens were fabricated using MultiCore (**) and Core-It (CI) bulk fill resin composite. Each material group, specimens were divided into nine subgroups based on curing methods (Light cure for 10 and 20 s; and auto-cure) and mixing techniques (first auto-mix, second automix, and hand mix). BFS was tested with a ball indenter at a crosshead speed of 0.50 mm/min. Specific objectives were to evaluate (1) participation levels, (2) program acceptability, (3) HCP knowledge changes, (4) HCP self-efficacy changes, and (5) perceived practice changes after six months. With this purpose in mind, a group of individuals from Spain, Italy, and the United States have formed a transatlantic collaboration, with the aim of generating a proposed comprehensive standards-based systems approach and data-driven framework for collection, management, and analysis of high-quality data. This framework will inform decisions in managing clinical responses and social measures to overcome the Covid-19 global pandemic and to prepare for future public health crises. We first argue that standardized data of the type now common in global regulated clinical research is the essential fuel that will power a global system for addressing (and preventing) current and future pandemics. We then present a blueprint for a system that will put these data to use in driving a range of key decisions. In the context of this system, we describe and categorize the specific types of data the system will require for different purposes and document the standards currently in use for each of these categories in the three nations participating in this work. In so doing, we anticipate some of the challenges to harmonizing these data but also suggest opportunities for further global standardization and harmonization. While we have scaled this transnational effort to three nations, we hope to stimulate an international dialogue with a culmination of realizing such a system.

  • Optimum closed-loop serious human brain stimulation employing multiple separately managed contact lenses.
    We have designed a grating coupler on Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) platform that has sufficient bandwidth to cover the entire CWDM O-band from 1270 nm to 1330 nm. The grating architecture is inspired by adjoint method-based geometry optimization, and then parameterized to accommodate DOE construction for tapeouts at commercial CMOS foundries and wafer-level testing on fiber probe stations. One grating design achieved peak loss of 3.2 dB with 1-dB bandwidth spanning from 1265 nm to 1338 nm in simulations.Recently, spatiotemporally modulated metamaterial has been theoretically demonstrated for the design of Doppler cloak, a technique used to cloak the motion of moving objects from the observer by compensating for the Doppler shift. Linear Doppler effect has an angular counterpart, i.e., the rotational Doppler effect, which can be observed by the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light scattered from a spinning object. In this work, we predict that the spatiotemporally modulated metamaterial has its angular equivalent phenomenon. We therefore propose a technique to observe the rotational Doppler effect by cylindrical spatiotemporally modulated metamaterial. Conversely, such a metamaterial is able to cloak the Doppler shift associated with linear motion by generating an opposite rotational Doppler shift. This novel concept is theoretically analyzed, and a conceptual design by spatiotemporally modulating the permittivity of a voltage-controlled OAM ferroelectric reflector is demonstrated by theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. Finally, a Doppler cloak is experimentally demonstrated by a spinning OAM metasurface in radar system, which the spatiotemporal reflection phase are mechanically modulated. Our work presented in this paper may pave the way for new directions of OAM carrying beams and science of cloaking, and also explore the potential applications of tunable materials and metasurfaces.Integrating multiple independent functionalities into one single photonic device has been an important part in optoelectronic system. In contrast, for y-polarized incident light, the metadevice under forward illumination behaves as a reflective Bessel beam generator, while a combination of transmissive vortex beam generator and focusing lens of x-polarized light under backward illumination.
