The association between SLC6A4 methylation and long-term adverse outcomes may be strengthened in the presence of SI within 2 weeks after stroke. Structural analysis using magnetic resonance imaging with T1-weighted sequences has the potential to quantify histopathological changes. Degeneration is typically measured by the volume and shape of morphological changes. However, these changes appear late in the disease, preventing their use as surrogate markers. We investigated texture changes in 108 individuals, divided into three groups, matched in terms of sex and age (1) healthy controls (n = 32); (2) patients with early-stage PD (n = 39); and (3) patients with late-stage PD and severe L-dopa-related complications (n = 37). All patients were assessed in off-treatment conditions. Statistical analysis of first- and second-order texture features was conducted in the substantia nigra, striatum, thalamus and sub-thalamic nucleus. Regions of interest volumetry and voxel-based morphometry were performed for comparison. Significantly different texture features were observed between the three populations, with some showing a gradual linear progression between the groups. The volumetric changes in the two PD patient groups were not significantly different. Texture features were significantly associated with clinical scores for motor handicap. These results suggest that texture features, measured in the nigrostriatal pathway at PD diagnosis, may be useful in predicting clinical progression of motor handicap.For many years of Japan's long history, Japanese surnames have been handed down patrilineally. This study investigated relations between major surnames and Y chromosomal polymorphism among the Japanese male population. To analyze genetic phylogeny in namesakes, the Y-single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) plus Y-short tandem repeat (STR) approach was employed. A haplogroup based on SNPs and haplotypes at 17 STR loci were typed in 567 unrelated volunteers recruited in Kanagawa, Japan. Samples covered 27 common surnames such as Satoh and Suzuki, each name having 10-55 bearers. Significant difference was found for SNP haplogroup compositions and a multidimensional scaling plot using STR haplotypes in several surname groups. By contrast, these common surnames displayed wide diversity with phylogenetic networks, suggesting that no genetic drift event has occurred in their history. In all, 22 descent clusters were found, as judgcriteria ed by ad hoc of groups within five mutational steps in the 15 STR loci with the same haplogroup. The times of the most recent common ancestor ranged from 279 to over 2577 years. According to the approximate millennium span of Japanese surname history, descent criteria are expected to be reasonable for grouping within four step-neighbors. High heterogeneity of common surnames resembles that observed for England and Spain, but not for Ireland. Our results highlight that common Japanese surnames consist of descent clusters and many singletons, reflecting a mixture of long-term bearers and short-term bearers among the population. The low mutant allelic ratio suggested that the mutation has occurred postzygotically leading to embryonic mosaicism. Functionally, K1F3A regulates cell membrane blebbing and migration of neural crest cells by controlling recycling of RHOB to the plasma membrane and is also involved in melanosome biogenesis. To evaluate the efficacy of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in treating ulcerative colitis (UC), targeting colonic mitochondrial dysfunction by virtue of its free radical scavenging properties for maintenance of colon mucosal integrity.
A murine model was administered with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) to induce colitis in C57BL/6J **** at 3.5%/g bodyweight for 3 cycles of 5 days each, followed by an intraperitoneal dose of VIP at 0.5 nmol/L per mouse per day for 10 days. The post-treatment **** were sacrificed and their colon samples were utilized for further analysis. To substantiate the in vivo findings and identify the reactive species involved in progression of UC, Caco-2 cells were subjected to DSS (5%) for 24 hours at 37 °C with or without VIP (10 nmol/L) in the presence or absence of specific free radical scavengers and antioxidants.
Treatment with VIP reduced histopathological severity of colitis and cell death markers in murine model, leading to partial recovery of inhibited mitochondrial respiratory complexes, altered mitochondrial membrane potential and lowered adenosine triphosphate generation. During the past 20 years, however, intracellular roles of MMPs were uncovered and research on this new aspect of their biology expanded. MMP-2 is the first of this protease family to be reported to play a crucial intracellular role where it cleaves several sarcomeric proteins inside cardiac myocytes during oxidative stress-induced injury. Beyond MMP-2, currently at least eleven other MMPs are known to function intracellularly including MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-11, MMP-12, MMP-14, MMP-23 and MMP-26. These intracellular MMPs are localized to different compartments inside the cell including the cytosol, sarcomere, mitochondria, and the nucleus. The brainstem plays a key role in the control of respiration. Strokes involving the lateral medulla can rarely produce a central hypoventilation syndrome (CHS) characterized by loss of automatic respiration called Ondine's curse. In this study, we investigated the neuroanatomical correlates of CHS in patients with lateral medullary infarction (LMI).
Cases of CHS following LMI were identified from searching our medical records and literature. Voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping and lesion network-symptom-mapping (LNSM) analysis was performed to identify the regions connected to the lesion sites based on normative functional connectome data.
Sixteen patients with CHS and 32 controls were included. The ventro-lateral region of the rostral medulla showed a significant association with CHS. LNSM analysis showed connections of this region to the rostral ventro-lateral medulla and caudal pons.
In patients with LMI, disruption of the respiratory control network, at the level of ventro-lateral region of the rostral medulla, could result in CHS.

This study describes the worldwide diffusion of robotic surgery in their respective fields in terms of hepatectomy, gastrectomy, esophagectomy, colectomy and pancreatectomy, respectively. The worldwide diffusion of robotic surgery is uneven, which may be related to the local economic strength, government health care policies, and surgeons' preference for minimally invasive surgery of various countries and regions. In the future, with the gradual decrease of cost of robotic surgical systems, and the standardization of surgical procedures, as well as the coverage of medical insurance, we believe that robotic surgery will become the gold standard procedure in general surgery.

In each visit, we detected biomarkers in saliva and microflora in buccal mucosa, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and lung function. We applied a linear mixed-effect (LME) model to examine the associations of UFPs and each health outcome. We found increased levels of FeNO and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and reduced lung function in association with higher UFP exposure. For each interquartile range increase of UFPs, the largest changes were found in lag 0-72 h for forced vital capacity [-69.02 ml (95% CI -114.20, -23.84)], TNF-α [13.41 pg/ml (95% CI 7.08, 19.73)], and FeNO [26.85% (95% CI 11.84%, 43.88%)]. UFP exposure was associated with reduced diversity in buccal microflora with largest reduction in lag 0-72 h [12.24 (95% CI 7.76, 16.71) for Ace index; 8.78 (95% CI 2.96, 14.60) for Chao1 index]. In this study, 54 human placental samples were collected to investigate the occurrence of legacy and emerging PFAS in human placenta, including perfluorinated carboxylates (PFCAs), perfluorinated sulfonates (PFSAs), chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether sulfonic acids (Cl-PFESAs), and fluorotelomer sulfonates (FTSAs). Among the legacy PFAS, perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) were detected in all samples, with PFOS and PFOA being the two predominant (mean 0.457 and 0.242 ng/g wet weight, respectively). Among the emerging PFAS, 62 Cl-PFESA was detected in all samples with the mean value of 0.104 ng/g wet weight, while the detect frequency (DF) of 82 Cl-PFESAs was only 24%. The concentration and DF of the four FTSA congeners were low in the placentas. Molecular docking calculation results showed that the binding affinities of PFAS to the human serum albumin (HSA) were increased with chain length in each category except for the PFCAs, of which the perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnDA) was the turning point of binding affinity to HSA. Venous thromboembolism rates, especially after less common surgical procedures are unknown. The purpose of this study is to establish data on the incidence of venous thromboembolism in trauma practice following a surgical procedure. All surgical trauma procedures between 2006 and 2011 were identified within the Achmea Health Database. This database records medical care to persons insured at the Achmea health insurance company. This is the largest health insurance company in the Netherlands. In the year following the surgical procedure we analyzed if a claim was filed concerning a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. 56.884 surgical trauma procedures were included in the analysis and followed for one year thereafter. Venous thromboembolism development was raised most markedly until 100 days after the surgical procedure. Relatively high incidences of venous thromboembolism were found after surgical lower extremity and pelvic procedures. A questionnaire was emailed to all members of the Dutch Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons which included resident, attending, non-practicing and retired orthopaedic surgeons. The questionnaire in- cluded questions about demographics, personal experiences and subsequent support and coping. Also the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Trauma Screening Questionnaire were included, which are validated screening instruments for anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), respectively. A total of 292 questionnaires were eligible for analysis. Most common events considered a high emotional impact stressor were missing a diagnosis (59.2%), when a patient becomes severely handicapped (36.6%) or doubting whether one is making the right decision (36.6%). At baseline, the data were comprised of prenatal maternal age, gestational age, GDM diagnosis, and maternal weight/height. During the postpartum period, 5-cc blood samples were taken from the pregnant women concerned to analyze their fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels. moderate-intensity-interval training (MIIT) on thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4) and insulin-resistance in overweight/obese adolescent girls.
Twenty four adolescent girls (age 16.5±1.36yrs) were randomly allocated into three groups (1) HIIT (2 blocks per session of 6-8 bouts of 30s runs at 100-110% maximal aerobic speed (MAS), with 30s active recovery between bouts at 50% MAS; n=8), (2) MIIT (2 blocks per session of 6-8 bouts of 30s runs at 70-80% MAS, with 30s active recovery between bouts at 50% MAS; n=8) and (3) control group (no exercise, n=8). The purpose of this study is to establish data on the incidence of venous thromboembolism in trauma practice following a surgical procedure. All surgical trauma procedures between 2006 and 2011 were identified within the Achmea Health Database. This database records medical care to persons insured at the Achmea health insurance company. This is the largest health insurance company in the Netherlands. In the year following the surgical procedure we analyzed if a claim was filed concerning a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. 56.884 surgical trauma procedures were included in the analysis and followed for one year thereafter. Venous thromboembolism development was raised most markedly until 100 days after the surgical procedure. Relatively high incidences of venous thromboembolism were found after surgical lower extremity and pelvic procedures. Highly specific molecular imaging of inflammatory biomarkers allows for earlier diagnosis to prevent irreversible damage. Advancements in imaging instruments, targeted tracers, and contrast agents represent a rapidly growing area of preclinical research with the hopes of quick translation to the clinic.Gait phase detection, which detects foot-contact and foot-off states during walking, is important for various applications, such as synchronous robotic assistance and health monitoring. Gait phase detection systems have been proposed with various wearable devices, sensing inertial, electromyography, or force myography information. In this paper, we present a novel gait phase detection system with static standing-based calibration using muscle deformation information. The gait phase detection algorithm can be calibrated within a short time using muscle deformation data by standing in several postures; it is not necessary to collect data while walking for calibration. A logistic regression algorithm is used as the machine learning algorithm, and the probability output is adjusted based on the angular velocity of the sensor. An experiment is performed with 10 subjects, and the detection accuracy of foot-contact and foot-off states is evaluated using video data for each subject. The median accuracy is approximately 90% during walking based on calibration for 60 s, which shows the feasibility of the static standing-based calibration method using muscle deformation information for foot-contact and foot-off state detection.Animal intestines are the source of edible sausage casings, which are traded worldwide and may come from areas where notifiable infectious animal diseases are prevalent. Only a very limited number of scientific publications per virus were found and viral loads in the intestines varied from high for ASFV (five publications), BVDV (3), CSFV (6), PPRV (3), RPV(2) and TGEV (3) to moderate for PEDV (2) and SVDV (3), low for HEV (2) and FMDV (5), very low for VESV (1) and negative for PrV (2) and VSV (1). PRRSV was found in intestines, however, viral titers were not published. Three viruses (BVDV, CSFV and PPRV) with high viral loads were selected to search for their inactivation kinetics. For casings, no inactivation data were found, however, thermal inactivation data of these viruses were available, but differed in quantity, quality and matrices. In conclusion, important data gaps still exist when it comes to the quantitative inactivation of viruses in sausage casings or livestock intestines.The recalcitrance of complex organic polymers such as lignocellulose is one of the major obstacles to sustainable energy production from plant biomass, and the generation of toxic intermediates can negatively impact the efficiency of microbial lignocellulose degradation. Here, we describe the development of a model microbial consortium for studying lignocellulose degradation, with the specific goal of mitigating the production of the toxin formaldehyde during the breakdown of methoxylated aromatic compounds. Included are Pseudomonas putida, a lignin degrader; Cellulomonas fimi, a cellulose degrader; and sometimes Yarrowia lipolytica, an oleaginous yeast. Unique to our system is the inclusion of Methylorubrum extorquens, a methylotroph capable of using formaldehyde for growth. We developed a defined minimal "Model Lignocellulose" growth medium for reproducible coculture experiments. We demonstrated that the formaldehyde produced by P. putida growing on vanillic acid can exceed the minimum inhibitory concentration for C. fimi, and, furthermore, that the presence of M. extorquens lowers those concentrations. We also uncovered unexpected ecological dynamics, including resource competition, and interspecies differences in growth requirements and toxin sensitivities. Finally, we introduced the possibility for a mutualistic interaction between C. fimi and M. extorquens through metabolite exchange. This study lays the foundation to enable future work incorporating metabolomic analysis and modeling, genetic engineering, and laboratory evolution, on a model system that is appropriate both for fundamental eco-evolutionary studies and for the optimization of efficiency and yield in microbially-mediated biomass transformation.V-ball valves are widely applied in many process industries to regulate fluid flow, and they have advantages of good approximately equal percentage flow characteristics and easy maintenance. The nomogram displayed fairly good discrimination and calibration. The C-index value was 0.742 for the training cohort and 0.773 for the validation cohort. Patients were grouped into three risk groups very well by the nomogram, with 5-year PRS rates of 45.2%, 23.3%, and 9.0%, respectively (p<0.001) in the training cohort and 36.0%, 9.2%, and 4.6%, respectively (p<0.001) in the validation cohort.

We first review the reduction and oxidation reactions driven by plasmons, and analyze the role of plasmons in the two reactions. We then summarize the recent research on the surface catalytic reactions driven by plasmon-exciton coupling and discuss the promotion effect of coupling interaction in oxidation reaction and reduction reaction. The coupling effect of plasmons and excitons can successfully improve the efficiency of catalytic reactions. Finally, this paper demonstrates the research progress in the electrooptical synergic plasmon-exciton co-driven surface catalytic reactions.Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide and has complicated underlying pathophysiology. Numerous TBI animal models have been developed over the past decade to effectively mimic the human TBI pathophysiology. These models are of mostly mammalian origin including rodents and non-human primates. However, the mammalian models demanded higher costs and have lower throughput often limiting the progress in TBI research. Thus, this systematic review aims to discuss the potential benefits of non-mammalian TBI models in terms of their face validity in resembling human TBI. Three databases were searched as follows PubMed, Scopus, and Embase, for original articles relating to non-mammalian TBI models, published between January 2010 and December 2019. A total of 29 articles were selected based on PRISMA model for critical appraisal. Zebrafish, both larvae and adult, was found to be the most utilized non-mammalian TBI model in the current literature, followed by the fruit fly and roundworm. In conclusion, non-mammalian TBI models have advantages over mammalian models especially for rapid, cost-effective, and reproducible screening of effective treatment strategies and provide an opportunity to expedite the advancement of TBI research.
Few biomarkers to evaluate pathophysiological changes in extra-cardiac tissues have been identified in patients with heart failure (HF). Fatty acid-binding protein 1 (FABP), also known as liver FABP, is predominantly expressed in the liver. Circulating FABP1 has been proposed to be a sensitive biomarker for liver injury. However, little is known about the potential role of FABP1 as a biomarker for HF.
Measurements of serum FABP1 and echocardiography were performed in subjects with compensated HF (n=162) and control subjects without HF (n=20). Patients were prospectively followed-up for a composite outcome of all-cause mortality or HF hospitalization. Compared with control subjects, levels of FABP1 were elevated in HF patients [7.9 (6.4-11.7) vs. 17.6 (10.4-28.9) ng/mL, P<0.0001]. There were significant correlations between FABP1 levels and estimated right ventricular systolic pressure and right atrial pressure. Twenty-seven consecutive patients (females 8; mean age 57.0) were included. After each procedure, both surgeon and nurse were asked to fill out a tailored questionnaire on a three-point Likert scale including 12 items.
All microvascular anastomoses were successfully completed, and no related complications were detected with a final free flap survival rate of 100% (mean follow-up of 5.6 months, SD 3.1 months). The nomogram displayed fairly good discrimination and calibration. The C-index value was 0.742 for the training cohort and 0.773 for the validation cohort. Numerous TBI animal models have been developed over the past decade to effectively mimic the human TBI pathophysiology. These models are of mostly mammalian origin including rodents and non-human primates. However, the mammalian models demanded higher costs and have lower throughput often limiting the progress in TBI research. Thus, this systematic review aims to discuss the potential benefits of non-mammalian TBI models in terms of their face validity in resembling human TBI. Three databases were searched as follows PubMed, Scopus, and Embase, for original articles relating to non-mammalian TBI models, published between January 2010 and December 2019. A total of 29 articles were selected based on PRISMA model for critical appraisal. Zebrafish, both larvae and adult, was found to be the most utilized non-mammalian TBI model in the current literature, followed by the fruit fly and roundworm. In conclusion, non-mammalian TBI models have advantages over mammalian models especially for rapid, cost-effective, and reproducible screening of effective treatment strategies and provide an opportunity to expedite the advancement of TBI research. Few biomarkers to evaluate pathophysiological changes in extra-cardiac tissues have been identified in patients with heart failure (HF). Fatty acid-binding protein 1 (FABP), also known as liver FABP, is predominantly expressed in the liver. Circulating FABP1 has been proposed to be a sensitive biomarker for liver injury. Measurements of serum FABP1 and echocardiography were performed in subjects with compensated HF (n=162) and control subjects without HF (n=20). On 24th October 2016, the Central Regional Health Directorate received report of a suspected cholera outbreak in the Cape Coast Metropolis (CCM). We investigated to confirm the diagnosis, identify risk factors and implement control measures.
We used a descriptive study followed by 12 unmatched case-control study.
We reviewed medical records, conducted active case search and contact tracing, interviewed case-patients and their contacts and conducted environmental assessment. Case-patients' stool samples were tested with point of care test kits (SD Bioline Cholera Ag 01/0139) and sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Laboratory for confirmation.

serotype Ogawa caused the outbreak. There was no mortality. Of 704 case-patients, 371(52.7%) were males and 55(7.8%) were aged under-five years. Compared to controls, cholera case-patients were more likely to have visited Cholera Treatment Centers (CTC) (aOR=12.1, 95%CI 1.5-101.3), drank pipe-borne water (aOR=11.7, 95%CI 3.3-41.8), or drank street-vended sachet water (aOR=11.0, 95%CI 3.7-32.9). Open defecation and broken sewage pipes were observed in the epicenter.

We mapped and generated hot spots for potential meningitis outbreak from existing data in Upper East region, Ghana.
This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 2017.
Meningitis data in the Upper East Region from January 2007, to December 2016.
We used spatial tools in Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) and Geoda to draw choropleth map of meningitis incidence, case fatality and hotspot for potential meningitis outbreak.
A total of 2312 meningitis cases (suspected and confirmed) were recorded from 2016-2017 with median incidence of 15.0cases/100,000 population (min 6.3, max 47.8). Median age of cases was 15 years (IQR 6-31 years). Most (44.2%) of those affected were 10 years and below. Females (51.2%) constituted the highest proportion. Median incidence from 2007-2011 was 20cases/100,000 population (Min 11.3, Max 39.9) whilst from 2012-2016 was 11.1cases/100,000 populations (Min 6.3, Max 47.8). A total of 28 significant hotspot sub-districts clusters (p=0.024) were identified with 7 High-high risk areas as potential meningitis outbreak spots.
The occurrence of meningitis is not random, spatial cluster with high -high-risk exist in some sub-districts. Overall meningitis incidence and fatality rate have declined in the region with district variations. Districts with high meningitis incidence and fatality rates should be targeted for intervention.

We have identified three areas of opportunity that may enhance the effectiveness of current approaches and inform new ones improved data collection and evidence-based screening practices; prompt and comprehensive therapy, including partner services, and evaluations of new treatment modalities; and equitable antenatal and sexual healthcare for all pregnant persons and their partners.

There has been significant development of long-acting injectable therapy for the management of HIV in recent years that has the potential to revolutionise HIV care as we know it. This review summarises the data and outlines the potential challenges in the field of long-acting antiretroviral therapy (ART).
In recent years, monthly and two monthly long-acting injectable ART in the form of cabotegravir and rilpivirine has shown safety and efficacy in large-scale phase 3 randomised control trials. Also, agents with novel mechanisms of action, such as Lenacapavir, have been tested in early-phase studies and are currently being tested in phase 2-3 clinical trials; if successful, this may allow six-monthly dosing schedules.
However, despite evidence that suggests that these therapies are efficacious and acceptable to patients, the challenge of integrating these agents into our current healthcare infrastructure and making these novel agents cost-effective and available to the populations most likely to benefit remains. The next frontier for long-acting therapy will be to introduce these agents in a real-world setting ensuring that the groups most in need of long-acting therapy are not left behind.

This review covers recent evidence of the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of conjunctival cancer in people living with HIV (PLWH).
HIV infection has been attributed to 33% of squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva in sub-Saharan Africa. Although clear evidence of the effect of immunodeficiency on conjunctival cancer risk has been demonstrated, the role of HPV on conjunctival cancer development is still unclear. Biomarkers such as the p16 protein are not always indicative of HPV infection. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) might potentially be another infectious agent of interest in the development of conjunctival cancer. There is some evidence of increased conjunctival cancer recurrence post treatment as well as increased probability of metastasis in PLWH.
Immunodeficiency increases the risk of conjunctival cancer in PLWH. Symptomatic screening of conjunctival cancer in PLWH should be encouraged. Research on HPV involvement should remain a priority and EBV considered as another etiologic agent of interest. More studies on treatment modalities in PLWH should be considered.

Maternal and congenital syphilis infection is on the rise in the United States and worldwide. Without adequate testing or provider recognition of infection, treatment can be neglected resulting in significant perinatal morbidity and mortality. This review article discusses the epidemiology of T. pallidum, describes novel diagnostic tests, and considers the need to expand therapeutic options.
A new chemiluminescence immunoassay for use in the reverse-sequence algorithm is more sensitive and specific in pregnant women than previously noted and is helpful for identifying pregnant women at highest risk for neonatal congenital syphilis. Point-of-care testing may be used to detect early syphilitic disease and provide same-day testing and treatment. Randomized control trials of oral cefixime for treatment of syphilis are paving the way for potential use in pregnant women. Penicillin skin testing, challenge, and desensitization in pregnancy can be done safely.

The present review summarizes recent original publications addressing the topic of risk-adapted adjuvant therapy in early breast cancer (EBC). As neoadjuvant therapy has become a standard for triple negative and HER2+ EBC, it focusses on luminal EBC.
Gene expression assays have become standard of care in luminal EBC, at least for patients with node negative disease. Two prospective randomized clinical trials, TAILORx (Oncotype DX) and MINDACT (MammaPrint) have presented additional analyses underlining the clinical utility of the tests. In times of COVID-19, immunohistochemically determined ER, PR, and Ki67 and early Ki67 response to endocrine therapy can be used to safely allocate patients for preoperative endocrine therapy and delay surgeries if resources are scarce. We conducted a retrospective study within the Lymphomes Oculo-Cérébraux national network (LOC) to assess the clinical characteristics and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection in PCNSL patients (positive real-time polymerase chain reaction of nasopharyngeal swab or evocative lung computed tomography scan). We compared clinical characteristics between patients with severe (death and/or intensive care unit admission) and mild disease.
Between March and May 2020, 13 PCNSL patients were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, 11 (85%) of whom were undergoing chemotherapy at the time of infection. The mortality rate was 23% (3/13), and two additional patients (15%) required mechanical ventilation. Two patients (15%) had no COVID-19 symptoms. History of diabetes mellitus was more common in severe patients (3/5 vs 0/8, p = 0.03). Two patients recovered from COVID-19 after mechanical ventilation during more than twoweeks and resumed chemotherapy. In all, chemotherapy was resumed after COVID-19 recovery in nine patients (69%) after a median delay of 16days (range 3-32), none of whom developed unusual chemotherapy complication nor SARS-Cov2 reactivation.
This preliminary analysis suggests that, while being at higher risk be for severe illness, PCNSL patients with COVID-19 might be treated maximally especially if they achieved oncological response at the time of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Cognitive reserve (CR) contributes to inter-individual variability of cognitive performance and to preserve cognitive functioning facing aging and brain damage. However, brain anatomical and functional substrates of CR still need to be fully explored in young healthy subjects (HS). By evaluating a relatively large cohort of young HS, we investigated the associations between CR and structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures in early adulthood.
A global Cognitive Reserve Index (CRI), combining intelligence quotient, leisure activities and education, was measured from 77 HS and its brain anatomical and functional substrates were evaluated through a multiparametric MRI approach. Substrates of the three subdomains (cognitive/social/physical) of leisure activities were also explored.
Higher global and subdomain CRIs were associated with higher gray matter volume of brain regions involved in motor and cognitive functions, such as the right (R) supplementary motor area, left (L) middle frontal gyrus and L cerebellum. No correlation with measures of white matter (WM) integrity was found. Higher global and subdomains CRIs were associated with lower resting-state functional connectivity (RS FC) of L postcentral gyrus and R insula in sensorimotor network, L postcentral gyrus in salience network and R cerebellum in the executive-control network. Moreover, several CRIs were also associated with higher RS FC of R cuneus in default-mode network.

Subtyping relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients may help predict disease progression and triage patients for treatment. We aimed to subtype RRMS patients by structural MRI and investigate their clinical significances.

We defined RRMS as "normal" (-2 < z scores of both GMV and WM-FA), DGM (z scores of DGMV < -2), and DGM-plus types (z scores of DGMV and [CGMV or WM-FA] < -2) according to combinations of z scores compared to HC. Expanded disability status scale (EDSS), cognitive and functional MRI measurements, and conversion rate to secondary progressive MS (SPMS) at 5-year follow-up were compared between subtypes.
77 (49.7%) patients were "normal" type, 37 (23.9%) patients were DGM type and 34 (21.9%) patients were DGM-plus type. 7 (4.5%) patients who were not categorized into the above types were excluded. DGM-plus type had the highest EDSS. Both DGM and DGM-plus types had more severe cognitive impairment than "normal" type. Only DGM-plus type showed decreased functional MRI measures compared to HC. A higher conversion ratio to SPMS in DGM-plus type (55%) was identified compared to "normal" type (14%, p < 0.001) and DGM type (20%, p = 0.005).

The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in patients taking or not taking an mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) at baseline in the DAPA-HF (Dapagliflozin And Prevention of Adverse outcomes in HeartFailure) trial.

A total of 4,744 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) were randomized to placebo or dapagliflozin 10mg daily. Latent Class Analysis identified 5 profiles of infant regulation including those who were settled (37%), had tantrums (21%), had sleep problems (25%), were moderately unsettled (13%), and severely unsettled (3%) at 12months of age. Adjusted regression analyses examined associations between infant regulatory profiles and language ability (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals-fourth edition) at ages 5 and 11years.
Infants who were moderately unsettled had lower language scores at age 5 (adjusted mean difference, -3.89; 95% CI, -6.92 to -0.86) and were more likely to have language difficulties (aOR, 2.71; 95% CI, 1.28-5.75), than infants who were settled. Infants who were severely unsettled at 12months of age, had lower language scores at ages 5 (adjusted mean difference, -7.71; 95% CI, -13.07 to -2.36) and 11 (adjusted mean difference, -6.50; 95% CI, -11.60 to -1.39), than infants who were settled. Severely unsettled infants were 5 times more likely to have language difficulties at age 5 than their settled counterparts (aOR, 5.01; 95% CI, 1.72-14.63).

Thus, both in normal and malnutrition circumstances, the animal needs to trigger metabolic changes to maintain energy homeostasis and sustain growth and development. This metabolic flexibility is mediated by hormones, that drive both developmental encoded metabolic transitions throughout development and adaptation responses according to the nutritional state of the animal. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the current knowledge of how endocrine regulation coordinates multi-organ development by orchestrating metabolic transitions and how it integrates metabolic adaptation responses to starvation. We also focus on the particular case of brain development, as it is extremely sensitive to hormonally induced metabolic changes. Patients were grouped into four groups of allied phenotypes (normal sensitivity, hyposensitivity to 1 to 3 modalities, hyposensitivity to 4 to 5 modalities, and hypersensitivity). M2 macrophages regulate the response to implants by resolving the inflammatory phase and recruiting progenitor cells to aid healing. We have previously shown that modified titanium (Ti) disks directly induce M2 macrophage polarization. The aim of this study was to examine macrophage response to commercially available Ti or Ti alloy implants with comparable roughness and varying hydrophilicity.
Eleven commercially available Ti (A-F) or Ti alloy (G-K) dental implants were examined in this study. Surface topography, chemistry, and hydrophilicity were characterized for each implant. To compare the immune response in vitro, human monocyte-derived macrophages were seeded on implants and secreted pro- and anti-inflammatory proteins measured. To evaluate the inflammatory response in vivo, **** were subcutaneously instrumented with clinical implants, and implant adherent macrophage populations were characterized by flow cytoon. This in vivo model may be a useful screening method to compare the immunomodulatory response to clinical implants of disparate geometry or size.
To assess whether the use of evogliptin, a novel dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPP-4i), was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events compared with glimepiride in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
We conducted a population-based cohort study using South Korea's nationwide healthcare database from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2018. We identified a base cohort of patients with T2D who newly initiated metformin monotherapy, from which we identified a study cohort of patients who either added or switched to glimepiride or DPP-4is (including evogliptin). Patients were followed up from initiation of DPP-4is or glimepiride until the earliest of either outcome occurrence or 31 December 2018. Our primary outcome was hospitalization or an emergency visit for cardiovascular events, a composite endpoint comprised of cerebrovascular events, heart failure, myocardial infarction, transient ischaemic attack, angina pectoris and revascularization procedures; secondary outcomes were the individual novel real-world evidence that the use of evogliptin, compared with glimepiride, did not increase the risk of cardiovascular events, including cerebrovascular events, myocardial infarction, heart failure, transient ischaemic attack and angina pectoris.
Findings from this population-based cohort study provide novel real-world evidence that the use of evogliptin, compared with glimepiride, did not increase the risk of cardiovascular events, including cerebrovascular events, myocardial infarction, heart failure, transient ischaemic attack and angina pectoris.The quantum mechanically calculable Q descriptor is shown to be a potent quantifier of chemical reactivity in complex molecules - it shows a strong correlation to experimentally derived field effects in non-aromatic substrates and Hammett σm and σp parameters. Models for predicting substituent effects from Q are presented and applied, including on the elusive pentazolyl substituent. The presented approach enables fast computational estimation of substituent effects, and, in extension, medium-throughput screening of molecules and compound design. An experimental dataset is suggested as a candidate benchmark for aiding the general development and comparison of electronic structure analyses. It is here used to evaluate the experimental quantum chemistry (EQC) framework for chemical bonding analysis in larger molecules.
The present study aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses.
Three phases were conducted Phase I involved a qualitative research to explore and establish the potential items pool; Phase II reduced the items using the item analysis with a sample of 73 nurses. Phase III evaluated the psychometric properties of the final scale. Data from 814 valid questionnaires were analysed using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.
Five factors, including 'Interpersonal integration', 'Profession-related positive emotion', 'Competence for nursing work', and 'Active coping strategies', 'Balance between work and life', accounted for 68.87% of total variance. Cronbach's α was 0.891. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable model fitness.
The Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses has good psychometric properties. It can be used to measure the transition status conveniently and effectively.
The assessment result with the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses can provide information about the transition status of new nurses, thereby providing reference to guide the specific nursing interventions to smooth the transition process.
