These results demonstrate that behavioral effects of TMS reflect a nonlinear interaction between initial activation state and TMS intensity. Biological evaluation of these agents, along with their non-fluorinated counterparts, demonstrate that antioxidant activity may be enhanced whereas neuroprotective activity is conserved. Also, the 3-fluoro-3',4',5'-trihydroxyflavone can act as an NMR probe to detect structural changes during its action as a radical scavenger.

  • PURPOSE In 2015 the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) published the first Canadian Competencies for Baccalaureate Dental Hygiene Programs (CCBDHP). To date there is little evidence to support that baccalaureate graduates have gained these abilities. The purpose of the study was to investigate the confidence levels of baccalaureate graduates in their ability to demonstrate the CCBDHP. METHODS An online, anonymous study was conducted with the 2013-2016 graduates of the University of British Columbia to rate their confidence level in the 13 competency domains and associated 110 sub-competencies of the CCBDHP based on a 5-point scale ranging from not confident to confident. RESULTS Thirty of the 84 graduates responded to the survey for a 36% response rate. The mostly confident and confident scores were added to determine the number of sub-competencies within each domain in which 75% to 100% of respondents identified such confidence. The competency domains in which graduates expressed the highest confidence included Collaboration (100%), Communication (100%), Clinical Therapy (100%), Disease Prevention (100%), Oral Health Education (90%), Professionalism (90%), Research Use (90%) and Leadership (90%). They expressed the least confidence in the competency domains of Health Promotion (50%), Advocacy (22%) and Policy Use (0%). CONCLUSION These data provided the UBC faculty with important insights into the educational preparedness of baccalaureate graduates. The findings are also relevant for other Canadian programs and contribute to a larger national dialogue about the CCBDHP and the transition of graduates into practice. BACKGROUND Sexual dysfunction is frequent in pregnant women. To what extent body image plays a role is incompletely understood. METHODS In the research, a cross-sectional and comparative study was conducted. A personal information form, body image scale, and female sexual function index were applied to 472 pregnant women. Descriptive statistics, the Student t-test, the χ2 test, and logistic regression analysis were employed for evaluating the data. RESULTS Sexual dysfunction was found in 54.7%. The frequency of sexual dysfunction in the first trimester was lower. In addition, factors like the place of residence of the pregnant women and number of pregnancies were found to be related to sexual dysfunction in pregnant women. Each unit decrease in body image score resulted in women being 0.98 times more likely to experience sexual dysfunction. A higher body mass index is associated with higher body dissatisfaction, whereas results in relation to body distortion are mixed. Furthermore, body dissatisfaction is associated with a weight-related attentional bias. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of a weight-related attentional bias in the relationship between body mass index and body image disturbance. Forty-one college women took part in a virtual reality and eye tracking procedure, in which the illusion of owning a virtual avatar with their body measurements was induced. During this procedure, body-related attentional bias was measured and afterwards body image disturbance was assessed. Mediation analysis revealed that weight-related attentional bias mediated the relationship between body mass index and body dissatisfaction (but not distortion). These findings suggest that modifying weight-related attentional bias would be a useful treatment target for improving body dissatisfaction. In addition, virtual reality technology could serve as an innovative method for modifying attentional bias in an ecologically valid way. HIGHLIGHTS This Virtual Reality and Eye-Tracking study expands our knowledge about the relation between body mass index, body-related attention and body image disturbances. The results suggest that attentional bias towards weight-related body parts mediates the relation between BMI and body dissatisfaction. This study investigated the ASSR to 20 and 40 Hz in typically developing (TD) children and children with ASD aged 5-7 years. METHODS The participants were 23 children with ASD and 32 TD children aged 5-7 years. Using a custom-made magnetoencephalography, we measured ASSR at 20 and 40 Hz, compared the results between the groups, and evaluated the association with intellectual function as measured by Kaufmann Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC). RESULTS Responses to 20 and 40 Hz were clearly detected in both groups with no significant difference identified. Consistent with previous findings, right dominance of the 40 Hz ASSR was observed in both groups.

  • Smad3 phosphorylation is similarly increased in diabetic mouse islets undergoing β-cell apoptosis. In ****, β-cell-specific activation of Smad3 promotes apoptosis and loss of β-cell mass in association with β-cell dysfunction, glucose intolerance, and diabetes. In contrast, inactive Smad3 protects from apoptosis and preserves β-cell mass while improving β-cell function and glucose tolerance. At the molecular level, Smad3 associates with Foxo1 to propagate TGF-β-dependent β-cell apoptosis. Indeed, genetic or pharmacologic inhibition of TGF-β/Smad3 signals or knocking down Foxo1 protects from β-cell apoptosis. These findings reveal the importance of TGF-β/Smad3 in promoting β-cell apoptosis and demonstrate the therapeutic potential of TGF-β/Smad3 antagonism to restore β-cell mass lost in diabetes.Embryonic Stem Cell (ESC) differentiation requires complex cell signalling network dynamics, although the key molecular events remain poorly understood. Here, we use phosphoproteomics to identify an FGF4-mediated phosphorylation switch centred upon the key Ephrin receptor EPHA2 in differentiating ESCs. We show that EPHA2 maintains pluripotency and restrains commitment by antagonising ERK1/2 signalling. Upon ESC differentiation, FGF4 utilises a bimodal strategy to disable EPHA2, which is accompanied by transcriptional induction of EFN ligands. Mechanistically, FGF4-ERK1/2-RSK signalling inhibits EPHA2 via Ser/Thr phosphorylation, whilst FGF4-ERK1/2 disrupts a core pluripotency transcriptional circuit required for Epha2 gene expression. This system also operates in mouse and human embryos, where EPHA receptors are enriched in pluripotent cells whilst surrounding lineage-specified trophectoderm expresses EFNA ligands. Our data provide insight into function and regulation of EPH-EFN signalling in ESCs, and suggest that segregated EPH-EFN expression coordinates cell fate with compartmentalisation during early embryonic development.Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is known to have poor patient outcomes due to development of resistance to chemotherapy agents and the EGFR inhibitors, which results in recurrence of highly aggressive lung tumors. Even with recent success in immunotherapy using the checkpoint inhibitors, additional investigations are essential to identify novel therapeutic strategies for efficacious treatment for NSCLC. Our finding that high levels of histone deacetylase 11 (HDAC11) in human lung tumor tissues correlate with poor patient outcome and that depletion or inhibition of HDAC11 not only significantly reduces self-renewal of cancer stem cells (CSCs) from NSCLC but also decreases Sox2 expression that is essential for maintenance of CSCs, indicates that HDAC11 is a potential target to combat NSCLC. We find that HDAC11 suppresses Sox2 expression through the mediation of Gli1, the Hedgehog pathway transcription factor. In addition, we have used highly selective HDAC11 inhibitors that not only target stemness and adherence independent growth of lung cancer cells but these inhibitors could also efficiently ablate the growth of drug-insensitive stem-like cells as well as therapy resistant lung cancer cells. These inhibitors were found to be efficacious even in presence of cancer associated fibroblasts which have been shown to contribute in therapy resistance.     Smad3 phosphorylation is similarly increased in diabetic mouse islets undergoing β-cell apoptosis. In mice, β-cell-specific activation of Smad3 promotes apoptosis and loss of β-cell mass in association with β-cell dysfunction, glucose intolerance, and diabetes. In contrast, inactive Smad3 protects from apoptosis and preserves β-cell mass while improving β-cell function and glucose tolerance. At the molecular level, Smad3 associates with Foxo1 to propagate TGF-β-dependent β-cell apoptosis. We show that EPHA2 maintains pluripotency and restrains commitment by antagonising ERK1/2 signalling. Upon ESC differentiation, FGF4 utilises a bimodal strategy to disable EPHA2, which is accompanied by transcriptional induction of EFN ligands. Mechanistically, FGF4-ERK1/2-RSK signalling inhibits EPHA2 via Ser/Thr phosphorylation, whilst FGF4-ERK1/2 disrupts a core pluripotency transcriptional circuit required for Epha2 gene expression. This system also operates in mouse and human embryos, where EPHA receptors are enriched in pluripotent cells whilst surrounding lineage-specified trophectoderm expresses EFNA ligands. Even with recent success in immunotherapy using the checkpoint inhibitors, additional investigations are essential to identify novel therapeutic strategies for efficacious treatment for NSCLC. Our finding that high levels of histone deacetylase 11 (HDAC11) in human lung tumor tissues correlate with poor patient outcome and that depletion or inhibition of HDAC11 not only significantly reduces self-renewal of cancer stem cells (CSCs) from NSCLC but also decreases Sox2 expression that is essential for maintenance of CSCs, indicates that HDAC11 is a potential target to combat NSCLC. We find that HDAC11 suppresses Sox2 expression through the mediation of Gli1, the Hedgehog pathway transcription factor. In addition, we have used highly selective HDAC11 inhibitors that not only target stemness and adherence independent growth of lung cancer cells but these inhibitors could also efficiently ablate the growth of drug-insensitive stem-like cells as well as therapy resistant lung cancer cells.     Although youth report many positive experiences with social media (SM) use in their daily lives, adolescents with depression are more vulnerable to the risks of SM use than adolescents without depression. Parents protect adolescents with depression from the risks of SM use by monitoring their child's SM activity; however, this comes into conflict with the adolescent's need for autonomy in their web-based communication. The implications of SM use and monitoring for adolescents with depression and their parents are of particular relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic, as rates of SM use have increased in response to physical distancing measures.

    This study aims to explore parent and child perspectives regarding the use and function of SM in the daily lives of adolescents with depression and parents' perceptions of and experience with monitoring their child's SM use.

    We conducted qualitative interviews with adolescents with depression (n=23) and one parent of each adolescent (n=23) between July 2013 and Septemng direct solicitation and indirect solicitation, such as keeping the child's passwords, asking friends or siblings about their child's SM use, and restricting SM behavior and access to devices.

    Clinicians should support adolescents with depression and their parents in finding common ground for an effective and acceptable monitoring approach.     This study aims to explore what is known about patient portal evaluations and to provide recommendations for future endeavors. The focus is on mapping the measures used to assess the impact of patient portals on the dimensions of the Quadruple Aim (QA) framework and the Canada Health Infoway's Benefits Evaluation (BE) framework.

    A scoping review was conducted using the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley. Reporting was guided by the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) extension for scoping reviews. A systematic and comprehensive search was conducted using the Ovid platform, and the following databases were searched Ovid MEDLINE (R) ALL (including epub ahead of print, in-process, and other nonindexed citations), EMBASE, and PsycINFO. CINAHL on the EBSCO platform and Web of Science were searched for studies publiudy highlights the need to appropriately plan how the impact will be assessed and how the findings will be translated into effective adaptations.
    Data sharing in multicenter medical research can improve the generalizability of research, accelerate progress, enhance collaborations among institutions, and lead to new discoveries from data pooled from multiple sources. Despite these benefits, many medical institutions are unwilling to share their data, as sharing may cause sensitive information to be leaked to researchers, other institutions, and unauthorized users. Great progress has been made in the development of secure machine learning frameworks based on homomorphic encryption in recent years; however, nearly all such frameworks use a single secret key and lack a description of how to securely evaluate the trained model, which makes them impractical for multicenter medical applications.

    The aim of this study is to provide a privacy-preserving machine learning protocol for multiple data providers and researchers (eg, logistic regression). This protocol allows researchers to train models and then evaluate them on medical data from multiple sources rivacy-preserving multiparty logistic regression model training and evaluation protocol based on threshold homomorphic encryption. However, 2D display methods could introduce additional challenges since they require physicians to accurately reconstruct the images mentally into 3D anatomies for diagnosis, staging, and planning of surgery or other therapies. Virtual reality (VR) software may enhance diagnosis and care of CHD via 3D visualization of medical images. METHODS Patients with metastatic CRC treated with SBRT on metastatic lesions were retrospectively analyzed between February 2012 and August 2016 at the General University Hospital of Valencia. The follow-up was carried out until July 15, 2018. The data have been collected in a database. Patients may have received prior systemic therapy and/or resection of metastatic disease. Endpoints were timed from end of SBRT and included overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Univariate and multivariate analysis using Cox proportional hazard modeling was used to identify prognostic factors. RESULTS A total of 49 patients were identified. Before SBRT, 77.5% of the patients have received systemic therapy and 65.2% surgery for metastatic disease. Of metastatic lesions treated with SBRT 53.1% were located in the lung, 30.6% in the liver and 16.3% in other locations. Median survival were PFS after treatment with SBRT was 9.9 months (95% CI 4.64-15.1) and the median OS was 28.9 months (95% CI 19.0-38.7). No relapses were observed in 20% of the patients after SBRT. The treatment was well tolerated and no patient had grade 3 or 4 adverse effects. Right colon [HR 16.53 (95% CI 3.11-87.87), P value 0.001] and higher tumor stage (III-IV) [HR 12.30 (95% CI 2.10-71.92), P value 0.005] showed a lower OS in a multivariate analysis. In hormone receptor (HR)-positive/human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancers, various genomic markers highly associated with proliferation have been tested. Among them, only two genomic signatures, the 21-gene recurrence score and 70-gene signature, have been reported in prospective randomized clinical trials and met the primary endpoint. However, these genomic markers did not suffice in HER2-positive and triple-negative (TN) breast cancers, which present only classical clinical and pathological information (tumor size, nodal or distant metastatic status) for decision making in the adjuvant setting in daily clinic. Recently, patients with residual invasive cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy are at a high-risk of recurrence for metastasis, which, in turn, make these patients best applicants for clinical trials. Two clinical trials have shown improved outcomes with post-operative capecitabine and ado-trastuzumab emtansine treatment in patients with either TN or HER2-positive breast cancer, respectively, who had residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS Patients with metastatic CRC treated with SBRT on metastatic lesions were retrospectively analyzed between February 2012 and August 2016 at the General University Hospital of Valencia. The follow-up was carried out until July 15, 2018. The data have been collected in a database. Patients may have received prior systemic therapy and/or resection of metastatic disease. Endpoints were timed from end of SBRT and included overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Univariate and multivariate analysis using Cox proportional hazard modeling was used to identify prognostic factors. RESULTS A total of 49 patients were identified. Before SBRT, 77.5% of the patients have received systemic therapy and 65.2% surgery for metastatic disease. Of metastatic lesions treated with SBRT 53.1% were located in the lung, 30.6% in the liver and 16.3% in other locations. Median survival were PFS after treatment with SBRT was 9.9 months (95% CI 4.64-15.1) and the median OS was 28.9 months (95% CI 19.0-38.7). No relapses were observed in 20% of the patients after SBRT. The treatment was well tolerated and no patient had grade 3 or 4 adverse effects. Right colon [HR 16.53 (95% CI 3.11-87.87), P value 0.001] and higher tumor stage (III-IV) [HR 12.30 (95% CI 2.10-71.92), P value 0.005] showed a lower OS in a multivariate analysis. In this review, we describe the biomarkers of neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, considering different breast cancer subtypes. In hormone receptor (HR)-positive/human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancers, various genomic markers highly associated with proliferation have been tested. Among them, only two genomic signatures, the 21-gene recurrence score and 70-gene signature, have been reported in prospective randomized clinical trials and met the primary endpoint. However, these genomic markers did not suffice in HER2-positive and triple-negative (TN) breast cancers, which present only classical clinical and pathological information (tumor size, nodal or distant metastatic status) for decision making in the adjuvant setting in daily clinic. Recently, patients with residual invasive cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy are at a high-risk of recurrence for metastasis, which, in turn, make these patients best applicants for clinical trials. RESULTS Of the 524 breast cancer survivors included in our study, 107 (20.4%) were African American and 417 (80.0%) were White. After adjusting for age, marital status, education, annual household income, health insurance, smoking and drinking status, physical inactivity, obesity, and diabetes, African American breast cancer survivors had a 30% higher prevalence of hypertension (PR = 1.30 [95% CI, 1.11-1.52]) than White breast cancer survivors. Further studies are needed to explore behavior in real-world situations to complement laboratory measurements to move toward a full understanding of the mechanisms underlying atypical scanning in patients with schizophrenia. The motivations to pursue ethnically sensitive rhinoplasty and associated expectations are nuanced and influenced by the culture and institutional forces in a community. This article seeks to elucidate those nuances and the impact on self-image of patients seeking this procedure. The US population increases yearly and by 2050, experts predict the US population will be greater than 430 million. As the population has grown, it has diversified and includes the largest percentage of multiethnic Americans to date. Accessibility and popularity of aesthetic surgery also have increased. Approaches to rhinoplasty have evolved from a concept of cultural and ethnic transformation to concepts of ethnic preservation, with the goal of preserving features while harmonizing the nose with the rest of the face. To achieve this goal thoughtful consultation and consideration of the patient's self-defined ethnicity is paramount. Facial structure, nasal shape, and aesthetic nasal preferences vary broadly among patients of African descent who seek rhinoplasty. This variation reflects the broad diversity in this ethnic group and is highlighted by lapses in computer vision algorithms in accurately recognizing black faces. Across ethnicities, patients who seek rhinoplasty have similar goals a reshaped nose that fits their facial features and enhances their facial beauty. Among patients of African descent, there is a particularly strong desire for maintaining nasal features that are ethnically sensitive and culturally congruent. This article discusses the nuances of managing the lower third of the African nose. Dermatomyositis (DM) is an autoimmune disease that is frequently refractory to current therapies and warrants the development of new treatments. The Cutaneous Disease Area and Severity Index (CDASI) was developed in 2008 in response to a need for a reliable, validated measure of skin disease activity and damage for use in clinical trials and longitudinal monitoring of disease progression. METHODS The literature was searched for all studies validating and utilizing the CDASI between 2008 and October 2018 using searches in PubMed. Studies pertaining to validation of the CDASI, correlation with quality of life, use in the evaluation of current therapies and ongoing trials, as well as relationships to biomarkers were included in this review. RESULTS The CDASI was found to have intra- and inter-rater reliability, validity, reproducibility, sensitivity to clinical changes, and ease of use. It has been shown to correlate with quality of life as measured by the Skindex-29 outcome measure. The CDASI activity score has additionally been shown to correlate significantly with IFN-β, a key cytokine in DM pathogenesis. CONCLUSION The CDASI is a validated measure of dermatomyositis disease and has been shown to be an effective outcome instrument in clinical trials. Veterinary diagnostic and treatment resources are often scarce and clinical follow-up is lacking in the Galápagos. This study evaluated 58 dogs presenting to the Darwin Animal Doctors clinic in the city of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island during August of 2018. The seroprevalence of E. canis/Ehrlichia ewingii (48.3%), Anaplasma phagocytophilum/Anaplasma platys (12.1%), and Borrelia burgdorferi (0%), as well as the proportion of dogs actively infected with E. canis (12.1%) and E. ewingii (0%), are reported. The cat presented fistulas with purulent secretion in the ventral cervical region. A thorough evaluation revealed nematodes in the site. The parasites were removed, amounting to a total of about 100 specimens. The parasite species was identified based on measurements and morphological characteristics of adult worms. This report of parasitism by L. minor in domestic cats in the state of São Paulo reinforces the need for greater attention to this parasitosis, given the increase in cases among carnivores in Brazil. Cystoisospora felis (Wenyon 1923) was identified in a 3-month-old, captive jaguar (Panthera onca) presenting with signs of gastrointestinal distress. The cub was fed beef, chicken, and commercial diet. Examination of fresh feces detected large (47.8 μm × 35 μm) unsporulated oocysts. Sporulated oocysts contained 2 sporocysts, each with 4 sporozoites. Oocyst morphometrics agreed with published features of C. felis described from domestic felines. Partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene was PCR-amplified and sequenced; the resulting sequence showed 100% identity to a C. felis isolate from a domestic cat. Ehrlichia canis, the causative agent of canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME), has a high reported seroprevalence in dogs on Santa Cruz in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. Veterinary diagnostic and treatment resources are often scarce and clinical follow-up is lacking in the Galápagos. This study evaluated 58 dogs presenting to the Darwin Animal Doctors clinic in the city of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island during August of 2018. The seroprevalence of E. canis/Ehrlichia ewingii (48.3%), Anaplasma phagocytophilum/Anaplasma platys (12.1%), and Borrelia burgdorferi (0%), as well as the proportion of dogs actively infected with E. canis (12.1%) and E. ewingii (0%), are reported. This paper describes the discovery of Lagochilascaris minor parasitizing a stray cat (Felis catus) in São Sebastião, a coastal city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The cat presented fistulas with purulent secretion in the ventral cervical region. A thorough evaluation revealed nematodes in the site. The parasites were removed, amounting to a total of about 100 specimens. The parasite species was identified based on measurements and morphological characteristics of adult worms. This report of parasitism by L. minor in domestic cats in the state of São Paulo reinforces the need for greater attention to this parasitosis, given the increase in cases among carnivores in Brazil. Cystoisospora felis (Wenyon 1923) was identified in a 3-month-old, captive jaguar (Panthera onca) presenting with signs of gastrointestinal distress. The cub was fed beef, chicken, and commercial diet. Examination of fresh feces detected large (47.8 μm × 35 μm) unsporulated oocysts. Sporulated oocysts contained 2 sporocysts, each with 4 sporozoites. Oocyst morphometrics agreed with published features of C. felis described from domestic felines. Partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene was PCR-amplified and sequenced; the resulting sequence showed 100% identity to a C. felis isolate from a domestic cat. This is the first molecularly confirmed report of C. felis infecting and producing clinically evident, enteric disease in a jaguar cub.

This result provides a foundation for integrating the effects of cognitive abilities with other dimensions of cognitive diversity to explain when groups will and will not sustainably govern natural resources.HIV-1 vaccine development aims to elicit broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against diverse viral strains. Here, we present a survey-based reconstruction of China's sectoral water use in 341 prefectures during 1965 to 2013. The data indicate that water use has doubled during the entire study period, yet with a widespread slowdown of the growth rates from 10.66 km3⋅y-2 before 1975 to 6.23 km3⋅y-2 in 1975 to 1992, and further down to 3.59 km3⋅y-2 afterward. These decelerations were attributed to reduced water use intensities of irrigation and industry, which partly offset the increase driven by pronounced socioeconomic development (i.e., economic growth, population growth, and structural transitions) by 55% in 1975 to 1992 and 83% after 1992. Adoptions for highly efficient irrigation and industrial water recycling technologies explained most of the observed reduction of water use intensities across China.

These questions are typically investigated with paradigms like the flanker task, which require participants to inhibit an automatic response before making a decision. Connectionist modeling work suggests that between-trial changes in attention result from fluctuations in conflict-as conflict occurs, attention needs to be upregulated to resolve it. Current sequential sampling models (SSMs) of within-trial effects, however, suggest that attention focuses on a goal-relevant target as a function of time. We propose that within-trial changes in cognitive control and attention are emergent properties of the dynamics of the decision itself. We tested our hypothesis by developing a set of SSMs, each making alternative assumptions about attention modulation and evidence accumulation mechanisms. Combining the SSM framework with likelihood-free Bayesian approximation methods allowed us to conduct quantified comparisons between subject-level fits. Models included either time- or control-based attention mechanisms, and either strongly- (via feedforward inhibition) or weakly correlated (via leak and lateral inhibition) evidence accumulation mechanisms. We fit all models to behavioral data collected in variants of the flanker task, one accompanied by EEG measures. Across three experiments, we found converging evidence that control-based attention processes in combination with evidence accumulation mechanisms governed by leak and lateral inhibition provided the best fits to behavioral data, and uniquely mapped onto observed decision-related signals in the brain. In a first step toward answering this question, we systematically quantified how this strategy affects estimation accuracy at the feature level in the context of 2 common hierarchical inference tasks, category-based perception and causal cue combination. Using model simulations, we demonstrate that although estimation accuracy is generally impaired when conditioned on only a single high-level interpretation, the reduction is not uniform across the entire feature range. Compared with a full inference strategy that considers all high-level interpretations, accuracy is only worse for feature values relatively close to the decision boundaries but is better everywhere else. That is, for feature values for which an observer has a reasonably high chance of being correct about the high-level interpretation of the feature, a full commitment to that particular interpretation is advantageous. We also show that conditioning on an preceding high-level interpretation provides an effective mechanism for partially protecting the evidence from corruption with late noise in the inference process (e.g., during retention in and recall from working memory). Our results suggest that a top-down inference strategy that solely relies on the most likely high-level interpretation can be favorable with regard to late noise and more holistic performance metrics. Scholars have mostly studied the multidimensional decent work construct using the composite scores of the Decent Work Scale (DWS; Duffy et al., 2017). However, there may be different combinations of decent work beyond the simple continuum of composite scores. Thus, we employed latent profile analysis to identify profiles of decent work using the 5 subscales of the DWS as indicators. As a result, 5 different groups with distinct profiles emerged (a) average, (b) low health care, (c) indecent work, (d) only health care, and (e) decent work. Subsequent analyses comparing each group on demographics (gender, employment, education), theoretical predictors (economic constraints, marginalization, work volition), and theoretical outcomes (job satisfaction, life satisfaction) revealed notable differences across the 5 groups. Implications, limitations, and future directions of the results are discussed. We interviewed 16 adult sexual assault survivors (13 women, 2 genderqueer/nonconforming individuals, and 1 identifying as a man and genderqueer) who were engaged in anti-sexual assault activism and analyzed their data using thematic analysis. Participants were predominately White and highly educated. Participants also described challenges associated with anti-sexual assault activism and #MeToo and related movements. These included being triggered, being inundated with media coverage and public narratives about sexual assault, burning out, and feeling disillusioned and frustrated.
