Vascular dysfunction is a common pathological basis for complications in individuals affected by diabetes. Previous studies have established that endothelial dysfunction is the primary contributor to vascular complications in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, the role of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in vascular complications associated with T2DM is still not completely understood. The aim of this study is to explore the potential mechanisms associated with Ca2+ handling dysfunction and how this dysfunction contributes to diabetic vascular smooth muscle impairment. The results indicated that endothelium-dependent vasodilation was impaired in diabetic aortae, but endothelium-independent vasodilation was not altered. Various vasoconstrictors such as phenylephrine, U46619 and 5-HT could induce vasoconstriction in a concentration-dependent manner, such that the dose-response curve was parallel shifted to the right in diabetic aortae, compared to the control. Vibration caused PLC activation, transient increases in cytosolic calcium, and downstream activation of PI3K and ERK1/2 by Gβγ, Gαq/11 and Gαi/o-independent mechanisms. Degranulation induced by vibration was dependent on PLC pathways, including calcium, PKC and PI3K but not ERK1/2 pathways, along with pertussis toxin (PTX)-sensitive signals. Although histone chaperones also appear to be involved in inflammation signaling cascades, whether small-molecules could target histone chaperones to show anti-inflammation effects has still been rarely discovered. In this study, natural product artone was found to show obvious inhibitory effects on microglia-mediated neuroinflammation by directly targeting ASF1a, which is a histone-remodeling chaperone. Mechanism study revealed that artone modulated histone H3 PTMs profile by down-regulating acetylation and trimethylation modification levels at sites K4, K9, K18 and K27. Artone-dependent regulations on PTMs further caused an effective inhibition on transcription factor NF-κB assembling to promoters of pro-inflammatory cytokine genes including Tnf-α, Il-6 and Rgs3, indicating a distinctive anti-neuroinflammation mechanism. Collectively, we reported artone as the first small-molecule targeting histone-remodeling chaperone ASF1a for anti-neuroinflammation. Moreover, these findings broaden our knowledge of histone chaperone as a druggable target protein for neuroinflammation inhibition, and open a new avenue to novel therapy strategy for inflammation-associated neurological disorders. Bimatoprost, latanoprost, and unoprostone are prostaglandin F2α analogs (PGAs) and are used to lower intraocular pressure. We investigated the free acid effects of these three prostaglandin analogs bimatoprost, latanoprost, and unoprostone on human matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) in the trabecular meshwork (TM) cells. Immunoblot results show that all three PGAs generally increased MMPs-1,9 and TIMPs-4. Additionally, bimatoprost and latanoprost both increased MMP-3 and TIMP-2, while unoprostone had an indeterminate effect on both. Zymography results show that all three PGAs except unoprostone increased intermediate MMP-1 activity while bimatoprost and latanoprost increased MMP-9 activity. Together, these data suggest that the balance between MMPs and TIMPs correlate to the relative intraocular pressure lowering effectiveness observed in clinical studies of these PGAs. How the absence of gravity affects the physiology of human beings is generating global research interest as space exploration, including missions aboard the International Space Station, continues to push boundaries. Here, we examined changes in retinal microcirculation and visual electrophysiology in **** suspended by their tails to simulate the cephalad movement of blood that occurs under microgravity conditions. Tail suspension was performed with a head-down tilt with a recommended angle of 30°. **** in the control groups were similarly attached to a tether but could maintain a normal position. Morphologically, the 15-day tail-suspended **** showed retinal microvascular dilation, tortuosity, and a relatively long fluorescence retention; however, the average diameter of the major retinal vessels was not notably changed. However, the **** could adapt to the change, with microcirculation and the optic nerve head t to the short-term change of retinal microcirculation, indicating new conditions that could be combined with, or could enhance, simulated microgravity for further studying the impact of short- or long-term outer space conditions on the retina.

Cardiac tamponade is a life-threatening complication during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), often caused by perforation of the right ventricle (RV) by the temporary pacemaker used for rapid pacing during valve deployment. We aimed to assess the feasibility of performing rapid pacing while maintaining inflation of the pacing lead balloon in the RV during TAVI. Among 749 consecutive patients who underwent TAVI with SAPIEN XT valves between October 2013 and July 2015, 726 treated using rapid pacing with a transvenous balloon-tip lead were enrolled in our study, and were stratified into three groups according to the extent of balloon inflation in the RV as follows full inflation (n = 100), partial inflation (n = 196), and deflation (n = 430). We compared the following clinical outcomes pacing lead-related RV perforation, rapid pacing failure, valve malpositioning due to rapid pacing failure, device success, and 30-day mortality. Pacing lead-related RV perforation occurred only in patients in the deflation group (6 cases, 1.4%), but the differences among the groups were not statistically significant (p = 0.13). Rapid pacing failure, but no valve malpositioning, occurred most frequently in patients in the full inflation group (4.0% vs. 0.5% in the other groups, p = 0.004). The rate of device success (> 94%) and the 30-day mortality (2.0%) were similar among the three groups. Partial inflation of the balloon of the pacing lead may reduce the risk of RV perforation without increasing the risk of pacing failure or valve malpositioning.Purpose This study evaluated the surgical practice patterns of glaucoma management followed by glaucoma specialists in Japan. Methods A survey was administered to 50 glaucoma specialists who were councilors in the Japan Glaucoma Society about surgical preferences and postoperative glaucoma care. Results All 50 glaucoma specialists participated in the survey. Results show that, in 2019, compared to conventional trabeculotomy (4.6%), the frequency of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), combined with phacoemulsification, remarkably increased (79.0%) for non-operated eyes with mild open-angle glaucoma associated with cataract. Tube-shunt surgery was performed more often for open-angle glaucoma with previously twice failed trabeculectomy (65.8%) and neovascular glaucoma with previously once failed trabeculectomy (63.4%). In addition, during one year post-operatively, MIGS required less frequent follow-up visits compared to filtering surgery. Conclusion Although glaucoma specialists in the Japan Glaucoma Society usually prefer trabeculectomy, in the past decade they have selected tube-shunt surgery more often to treat refractory glaucoma. In this work, the RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq) technique was used to analyse the transcriptional profile of rice plants subjected to different salt shock events and to characterise genes associated with long-term memory. Plants subjected to recurrent salt shock showed differences in stomatal conductance, chlorophyll index, electrolyte leakage, and the number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and they had lower Na+/K+ ratios than plants that experienced only one stress event. Additionally, the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathways, and carbohydrate and amino acid-associated pathways were altered under all conditions. Memory genes can be classified according to their responses during the first event (+ or -) and the second shock event (+ or -), being possible to observe a larger number of transcripts for groups [+ /-] and [-/ +], genes characterised as "revised response." This is the first long-term transcriptional memory study in rice plants under salt shock, providing new insights into the process of plant memory acquisition.The present study aimed to explore clinical trends in the period 2000-2010, along with discriminating clinical factors for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in young children suspected of ASD. The distribution of ASD subtypes and IQ level did not change. Results suggest that a higher proportion of children with less severe autism symptoms were referred and diagnosed. Further, restricted and repetitive behaviors seemed to be a key discriminating factor when distinguishing between ASD and no-ASD children with a discordant symptom profile.

Interfacial properties of perovskite layers and metal electrodes play a crucial role in device performance and long-term stability of perovskite solar cells. In this work, we performed a comprehensive study of the interfacial structures and ion migration at the interface of a CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite layer and an Al electrode using in situ synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy measurements. It was found that the Al electrode can react with the perovskite layers, leading to the formation of aluminum iodide species and the bonding between Al and N, as well as the reduction of Pb2+ ions to metallic Pb species at the interface. Here, we developed a bionic artificial retina possessing phototransduction "cells" with measurements even smaller than that of the neural cells. Using the technique of micrometer processing, we constructed a pyramid-shape periodic microarray of a photoreceptor. Each "sensing cell" took advantage of polythiophene derivative/fullerene derivative (PCBM) as a photoelectric converter. Because folic acid played an essential role in eye growth, we particularly modified the polythiophene derivatives with folic acid tags. Therefore, the artificial retina could enlarge the contact area and even recognize the nerve cells to improve the consequence of nerve stimulation. We implanted the artificial retina into blinded rats' eyes. Electrophysiological analysis revealed its recovery of photosensitive function 3 months after surgery. Our work provides an innovative idea for fabricating a high-resolution bionic artificial retina system. Herein, we propose a one-step strategy for synthesis of methylene blue-encapsulated zeolitic imidazolate framework-90 (MB@ZIF-90) with high loading, unique dual-signal property, exceptional recognitional capability and good stability, and we further pioneer MB@ZIF-90 as a dual-signal biosensor for label-free, enzyme-free, and ultrasensitive detection of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by integration of fluorescent and homogeneous electrochemical techniques. The recognition of MB@ZIF-90 by target ATP spurs the decomposition of ZIF-90, subsequently permitting MB to be released into supernatant. As compared to the case where ATP doesn't exist, obviously increased intensities in fluorescence and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) current are observed and both signals are directly proportional to ATP concentrations. Interfacial properties of perovskite layers and metal electrodes play a crucial role in device performance and long-term stability of perovskite solar cells. In this work, we performed a comprehensive study of the interfacial structures and ion migration at the interface of a CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite layer and an Al electrode using in situ synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy measurements. It was found that the Al electrode can react with the perovskite layers, leading to the formation of aluminum iodide species and the bonding between Al and N, as well as the reduction of Pb2+ ions to metallic Pb species at the interface. The 6 week program was completed by participants in their home or local community with weekly check-ins with the research team. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regressions. Main outcomes and results Outcome measures included the **** Youth Inventories (youth), and the Child Behavior Checklist (parents). Results indicated significant improvements in anger and anxiety post-intervention with anger reduction being more pronounced in girls. Conclusions Active rehabilitation interventions may have positive effects on mood in youth recovering from concussion. Due to the relevance of these compounds, this study aimed to investigate the genotoxic/antigenotoxic effects of the chalcone (E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methylphenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one (2HMC) and the coumarin-chalcone hybrid [7-methoxy-3-(E)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)acryloyl-2H-cromen-2-one] (4-MET) using the somatic mutation and recombination test (SMART) in Drosophila melanogaster. To assess the mutagenic and recombinogenic activities, larvae derived from standard and high bioactivation crosses were treated with different concentrations of 2HMC (10, 50, 100 and 400 µg/mL) or 4-MET (5, 50, 100 and 400 µg/mL) for 48 h. Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO, 0.5%) was the negative control group. The anti-recombinogenic and antimutagenic activities were assessed using larvae from both crosses co-treated with the same concentrations of 2HMC or 4-MET and mitomycin C (MMC, 0.05 mM). SMART revealed no mutagenic or recombinogenic effects since no significant increase of any category of mutant spots was observed (p > 0.05). Seat-belt fit (good, poor, and unbelted), airbag deployment time (proper and late), and occupant size (midsize male and small female HIII ATDs) were varied in the tests. The 2006 Chrysler Town-and-Country minivan was selected as the nominal vehicle environment, and a surrogate wheelchair with a docking securement system was used for all sled tests. ATD injury measures for the head, neck, chest, and lower extremities were recorded in each test, and were used for validating a set of MADYMO models. Parametric studies with a total of 28 MADYMO simulations were then conducted to investigate the airbag effects on occupant injury risks with varied occupant size, belt fit, and impact angle (0, 15, and 30 deg).

To assess the mutagenic and recombinogenic activities, larvae derived from standard and high bioactivation crosses were treated with different concentrations of 2HMC (10, 50, 100 and 400 µg/mL) or 4-MET (5, 50, 100 and 400 µg/mL) for 48 h. The objective of this study was to conduct sled tests and computational simulations to answer whether driver airbags should be deactivated for drivers seated in wheelchairs.Methods Five sled tests were conducted under a 48-kph 20-g frontal crash pulse all with driver airbag. Seat-belt fit (good, poor, and unbelted), airbag deployment time (proper and late), and occupant size (midsize male and small female HIII ATDs) were varied in the tests. The 2006 Chrysler Town-and-Country minivan was selected as the nominal vehicle environment, and a surrogate wheelchair with a docking securement system was used for all sled tests. ATD injury measures for the head, neck, chest, and lower extremities were recorded in each test, and were used for validating a set of MADYMO models. Hence, various local management protocols exist. We compared three different local protocols and a control group to assess blood loss and time delay to theatre. METHODS Sequential data were collected for 120 hip fracture patients in four groups; wait 24 hours from last dose, wait 48 hours, perform DOAC levels and control. RESULTS DOAC use in our hip fracture patients was 14%. Median haemoglobin (Hb) drop between the three protocol groups showed no significant difference (13.5, 21.5 and 16.0 g/L) (Kruskal-Wallis, p=0.9). Median Hb drop in the control group was 16.0 g/L versus 17.5 g/L in the protocol groups combined (Mann Whitney-U, p=0.7). Average Hb drop in the control group was 19.2 g/L and in the protocol groups was 22.1 g/L; a 15% greater blood loss with DOACs. The frequency distribution of blood loss was different between the control and protocol groups, but not between shed by BMJ.The NSD2 p.E1099K (EK) mutation is observed in 10% of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) samples with enrichment at relapse indicating a role in clonal evolution and drug resistance. To address whether NSD2 EK acts collaboratively with other pathways, we used shRNAs to knockdown expression of NSD2 in B-ALL cell lines heterozygous for NSD2 EK (RS4;11, RCH-ACV, SEM). Knockdown resulted in decreased proliferation in all lines, decreased clonal growth in RCH-ACV, and increased sensitivity to cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents, although the pattern of drug sensitivity varied among cell lines implying that the oncogenic properties of NSD2 mutations are likely cell context specific and rely on cooperative pathways. Knockdown of both Type II and REIIBP EK isoforms had a greater impact than knockdown of Type II alone, suggesting that both SET containing EK isoforms contribute to phenotypic changes driving relapse. Furthermore, in vivo models using both cell lines and patient samples revealed dramatically enhanced proliferation of NSD2 EK compared to WT and reduced sensitivity to 6-mercaptopurine in the relapse sample relative to diagnosis. Finally, EK-mediated changes in chromatin state and transcriptional output differed dramatically among cell lines further supporting a cell context specific role of NSD2 EK. These results demonstrate a unique role of NSD2 EK in mediating clonal fitness through pleiotropic mechanisms dependent on the genetic and epigenetic landscape. This case highlights the utility of a thorough oral exam in patients suspected to have connective tissue disease as the distinctive ovoid palatal patch is nearly pathognomonic for anti-TIF1γ dermatomyositis.

In this study, the solvation structures of Ca2+ ions in aqueous and alcoholic solutions at different concentrations were carefully evaluated by Ca K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analyses. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were also performed to correlate the results with the experimental data and then further extended to other similar systems. It was found that the number of coordinating solvent molecules decreases with increasing Ca2+ concentration and increasing solvent molecule sizes. From the EXAFS data, it was observed that the first solvation shell of Ca2+ splits into two Ca-O distances in a methanol solution and the counter ion Cl- might also be within the first shell at high concentrations. For the first time, the effects of solvents with different polarities and sizes on the ion solvation environment were systematically evaluated.Organosilane monolayers containing long carbon chains are susceptible to damage when exposed to X-rays and other radiation during characterization or processing. The origin of the damage has been attributed to both energetic photons and photoelectrons. These particles can break bonds in the molecules comprising the layer altering its composition and structural and can create silanol groups at the interface between the monolayer and the silicon dioxide surface. A common practice to minimize damage is to keep the X-ray beam time as short as possible. In this study, we report a method to deposit an organosilane monolayer on silicon dioxide that withstands X-ray beam damage to the interface. Adding the small monofunctional trimethylchlorosilane to a layer composed of the long-chain trifunctional octadecyltrichlorosilane prevented X-ray beam damage for at least 4 h. Interfacial damage was monitored by titrating silanol groups with TiCl from depositing to the detection limit of XPS. Different initial thermolysis mechanisms are proposed for 1,2,4-triazole and 1,2,3-triazole, the two kinds of triazoles. The higher energy barrier of the primary decomposition path of 1,2,4-triazole (H-transfer path, ∼52 kcal/mol) compared with that of 1,2,3-triazole (ring-open path, ∼45 kcal/mol) shows that 1,2,4-triazole is more stable, consistent with experimental observations. For nitro-substituted triazoles, more dissociation channels associated with the nitro group have been obtained and found to be competitive with the primary decomposition paths of the triazole skeleton in some cases. Besides, the effect of the nitro group on the decomposition pattern of the triazole skeleton has been explored, and it has been found that the electron-withdrawing nitro group has an opposite effect on the primary dissociation channels of 1,2,4-triazole derivatives and 1,2,3-triazole derivatives.

The specificity of our representative probe DHMP2 displays a 31-fold fluorescence turn-on in vitro, and it can effectively accumulate in the mitochondria and specifically detect the endogenous MAO-A concentrations in PC-3 and SH-SY5Y cell lines. Furthermore, the probe DHMP2 can be used to visualize the endogenous MAO-A activity in zebrafish and tumor-bearing mice. More importantly, it is the first time that the MAO-A activity of hepatic fibrosis tissues is detected through the probe DHMP2. A common practice to minimize damage is to keep the X-ray beam time as short as possible. In this study, we report a method to deposit an organosilane monolayer on silicon dioxide that withstands X-ray beam damage to the interface. Adding the small monofunctional trimethylchlorosilane to a layer composed of the long-chain trifunctional octadecyltrichlorosilane prevented X-ray beam damage for at least 4 h. Purpose The aim of this study was to develop novel paclitaxel-loaded proliposome tablet formulations for pulmonary drug delivery. Method Proliposome powder formulations (i.e. F1 - F27) were prepared employing Lactose monohydrate (LMH), Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) or Starch as a carbohydrate carriers and Soya phosphatidylcholine (SPC), Hydrogenated soya phosphatidylcholine (HSPC) or Dimyristoly phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) as a phospholipid. Proliposome powder formulations were prepared in 15, 115 or 125 w/w lipid phase to carrier ratio (lipid phase; comprising of phospholipid and cholesterol in 11 M ratio) and Paclitaxel (PTX) was used as model anticancer drug. Results Of 268 patients undergoing HoLEP, 104 (38.8%) received AT 25.7% were treated with platelet aggregation inhibitors (PAI), 8.2% with new oral anticoagulants (NOAC) and 4.9% with AT-combinations or coumarins bridged with low molecular weight heparins (LMWH/combination). Patients receiving AT were significantly more comorbid (p less then 0.01). Pre- and postoperative maximal flow rates, residual void urine and IPSS at 3 months after surgery were invariably improved after HoLEP for patients with/ without AT. Overall complication rate was 19.5% in patients with no AT vs. 26.1% vs. 27.3 vs. 46.2%, respectively, in patients with PAI, NOAC and LMWH/combination (p less then 0.01). Major complications (CLD ≥ 3b) occurred in 6.1% of no AT patients vs. 4.3% vs. 4.5 vs. 0% in patients with PAI, NOAC and LMWH/combination, respectively (p less then 0.01). In multivariate LRM, AT was not significantly associated with higher complication rates, whereas high ASA status (OR 2.2, p = 0.04), age (OR 1.04, p = 0.02) and bioptical or incidental prostate cancer (OR 2.5, p = 0.01) represented independent risk factors. Adult patients with renal stones undergoing PNL were included. According to renal anatomy and stone complexity, stratified randomization was performed and study participants were allocated into either SL-MLP group or PP group. The stone free rate (SFR), total operative time, track formation time, fluoroscopy time, auxiliary procedures, and complications were compared. The QoL and functional data was collected prospectively from patients who provided consent using the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC). Oncological follow up included 3-month PSA levels, mpMRI at 6 months and transperineal biopsy at 1-year post treatment. Results A total of 50 patients had apical PCa lesions treated between February 2013 and September 2018. Median follow-up was 44 months. There were no Clavien-Dindo grade 3 events or higher. No perioperative complications were recorded. No significant difference was observed in the EPIC urinary or bowel QoL domain between baseline and 12-month post-treatment. One patient (2%) required one pad per day for urinary incontinence 12-month post-treatment. There was a small but significant decline in EPIC sexual QoL (65 at baseline and 59 at 12-month post-IRE). Of patient's potent pre-treatment, 94% remained potent after treatment. The median PSA nadir decreased by 71% (6.25-1.7 ng/mL). Only one patient (2.5%) had in-field residual disease on repeat biopsy. Conclusion Focal ablation using IRE for PCa in the distal apex appears safe and feasible with acceptable early QoL and oncologic outcomes.

Cytochrome (Cyt) P450s are an important class of enzymes with numerous functions in nature. The unique reactivity of these enzymes relates to their heme b active sites with an axially bound, deprotonated cysteine (a "cysteinate") ligand (chemically speaking a thiolate). The heme-thiolate active sites further contain a number of conserved hydrogen-bonds (H-bonds) to the bound cysteinate ligand, which have been proposed to tune and stabilize the Fe-S bond. In this work, we present the low-temperature preparation of five ferric heme-thiolate nitric oxide (NO) model complexes that contain one tunable hydrogen-bond to the bound thiolate ligand. We show that the presence of a H-bond has a dramatic effect in stabilizing the thiolate ligand against direct reaction with NO. This observation reinforces the important protective role of H-bonds in Cyt P450s. We further demonstrate that H-bond strength tunes thiolate donor strength, which, in turn, controls the N-O and Fe-NO stretching frequencies and hence, bond strengths. We observe a direct correlation between the Fe-NO and N-O stretching frequencies, indicative of a thiolate σ-trans effect (interaction). Here, very small changes in H-bond strength lead to a surprisingly large effect on the FeNO unit. This result implies that subtle changes in the Cys-pocket of a Cyt P450 can strongly affect reactivity. Importantly, using the Fe-NO/N-O correlation established here, the thiolate donor strength in heme-thiolate enzyme active sites and model complexes can be quantified in a straightforward way, using NO as a probe. Herein, we summarize the most recent advances in the functionalization of cell membrane-coated nanoparticles. In particular, we focus on emerging methods, including (1) lipid insertion, (2) membrane hybridization, (3) metabolic engineering, and (4) genetic modification. These approaches contribute diverse functions in a nondisruptive fashion while preserving the natural function of the cell membranes. They also improve on the multifunctional and multitasking ability of cell membrane-coated nanoparticles, making them more adaptive to the complexity of biological systems. We hope that these approaches will serve as inspiration for more strategies and innovations to advance cell membrane coating technology.Developing a convenient and rapid detection method for water is greatly desirable in the field of chemical industry. Herein, we present a simple and effective strategy combining a fluorescence sensor and a one-to-two fluorescence colorimetric logic operation to monitor water in a wide range of organic media and classify aprotic/protic polar solvents. The dual-emitting luminescent detector was prepared by incorporating a fluorescent dye Rhodamine 6G (R6G) with strong green light emission within a red light-emitting Eu-metal-organic framework (MOF) through the "bottle around ship" method. R6G@Eu-MOF displays completely different fluorescence response behaviors to various organic solvents. Thus, when one made use of the intensity ratio of different fluorescence emission centers, a 3D decoded map was proposed to reliably and effectively distinguish different aprotic/protic polar solvents. Moreover, R6G@Eu-MOF exhibited two different ratiometric sensing modes when detecting water in aprotic/protic polar solvents due to the hydrogen bonding interaction, that is ratiometry with one reference signal or two reversible signal changes. Furthermore, using water content as the input signal and two kinds of fluorescence emission as the output signals, a one-to-two logic gate system was constructed, making it possible to develop an intelligence system for water detection. By comparing the surface morphology, mechanical properties, and water evaporation performance of the as-prepared three different membranes, we have screened out a high-performance photothermal membrane that has good hydrophobicity (water contact angle = 106°), strong mechanical properties, high light-to-heat conversion efficiency (η = 80%), and excellent durability (10 cycles in a range of pH = 1.2-12). In particular, we explore the mechanism of high surface mechanical properties of the as-prepared membrane using density functional theory. Herein, we summarize the most recent advances in the functionalization of cell membrane-coated nanoparticles. In particular, we focus on emerging methods, including (1) lipid insertion, (2) membrane hybridization, (3) metabolic engineering, and (4) genetic modification. These approaches contribute diverse functions in a nondisruptive fashion while preserving the natural function of the cell membranes. They also improve on the multifunctional and multitasking ability of cell membrane-coated nanoparticles, making them more adaptive to the complexity of biological systems. We hope that these approaches will serve as inspiration for more strategies and innovations to advance cell membrane coating technology.Developing a convenient and rapid detection method for water is greatly desirable in the field of chemical industry. Herein, we present a simple and effective strategy combining a fluorescence sensor and a one-to-two fluorescence colorimetric logic operation to monitor water in a wide range of organic media and classify aprotic/protic polar solvents. The dual-emitting luminescent detector was prepared by incorporating a fluorescent dye Rhodamine 6G (R6G) with strong green light emission within a red light-emitting Eu-metal-organic framework (MOF) through the "bottle around ship" method. R6G@Eu-MOF displays completely different fluorescence response behaviors to various organic solvents. Thus, when one made use of the intensity ratio of different fluorescence emission centers, a 3D decoded map was proposed to reliably and effectively distinguish different aprotic/protic polar solvents. Moreover, R6G@Eu-MOF exhibited two different ratiometric sensing modes when detecting water in aprotic/protic polar solvents due to the hydrogen bonding interaction, that is ratiometry with one reference signal or two reversible signal changes. Furthermore, using water content as the input signal and two kinds of fluorescence emission as the output signals, a one-to-two logic gate system was constructed, making it possible to develop an intelligence system for water detection. Overall, we demonstrated for the first time that R6G@Eu-MOF could serve as an efficient platform for tracing water in organic media and distinguishing protic/aprotic polar organic solvents.Solar-driven water evaporation provides a promising solution to the energy crisis and environmental issues. Capitalizing on the high photothermal conversion efficiency and excellent resistance to strong acids or strong alkalis of Pt3Ni-S nanowires, we strategically design and prepare a flexible Pt3Ni-S-deposited Teflon (PTFE) membrane for achieving efficient strong acid/alkaline water evaporation under simulated sunlight irradiation (1 sun). By comparing the surface morphology, mechanical properties, and water evaporation performance of the as-prepared three different membranes, we have screened out a high-performance photothermal membrane that has good hydrophobicity (water contact angle = 106°), strong mechanical properties, high light-to-heat conversion efficiency (η = 80%), and excellent durability (10 cycles in a range of pH = 1.2-12). In particular, we explore the mechanism of high surface mechanical properties of the as-prepared membrane using density functional theory. Thus far, treatments for music performance anxiety (MPA) have focused primarily on interventions administered by psychologists and mental health clinicians with training and education in psychotherapy. While these interventions are promising or even efficacious, many musicians prefer not to work with a psychotherapist due to stigma and lack of time/access. Student musicians are particularly vulnerable to developing MPA, and while they may prefer consulting with their teachers about MPA over psychotherapists, many teachers feel unqualified to help. Here, we investigated an alternative intervention model, in which a clinical psychologist with MPA expertise trained a singing teacher with no training or education in psychotherapy to use an evidence-based coaching model, Acceptance and Commitment Coaching (ACC), with a student vocalist with problematic MPA, in a single-subject design format. ACC is a version of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that has been used under various names with non-clinical populatars to be a promising MPA intervention that can be administered by a music teacher without training or education in psychotherapy, and it may help schools who do not employ psychologists and are therefore unable to follow best practice guidelines for treating MPA.Teaching is an emotionally challenging profession, sometimes resulting in high levels of teacher stress, burnout, and attrition. It has often been claimed that certain emotion regulation strategies can lower teachers' feelings of burnout. The use of cognitive reappraisal (i.e., cognitively changing the emotional impact of a situation) has generally been associated with positive outcomes, whereas using expressive suppression (i.e., inhibiting emotional responses) usually has negative consequences. The present study investigated the association between teachers' typical use of these two emotion regulation strategies (i.e., cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) and their feelings of emotional exhaustion. Because there is evidence that regulating emotions could involve higher costs when regulation goes against individual preferences, we also explored the potentially moderating effect of teachers' implicit attitudes toward emotion regulation versus emotion expression on the association between typical Interpersonal communion and gender were not directly associated with feelings of exhaustion. Additional analyses revealed this association to be mainly due to parental socioeconomic status (SES) rather than students' language background. In particular, parental SES and students' receptive grammar impacted initial level as well as growth rate of connective comprehension. Our results point to the necessity of a continuous and early sensitization for the register of academic language especially in the group of students from a low socioeconomic background.Objective The goal of this single case study was to qualitatively investigate the effects of animal-assisted therapy in a patient in a minimally conscious state. Method We present a 28-year-old female patient in a minimally conscious state following polytrauma after a sports accident leading to cerebral fat embolism causing multiple CNS ischemic lesions. She received eight animal-assisted therapy sessions and eight paralleled control therapy sessions over 4 weeks. We investigated the reactions of the patient during these sessions via qualitative behavior analysis. Results The patient showed a broader variability and higher quality of behavior during animal-assisted therapy compared to control therapy sessions. Conclusion The observed behavioral changes showed higher arousal and increased awareness in the presence of an animal. The presented case supports the assumption that animal-assisted therapy can be a beneficial treatment approach for patients in a minimally conscious state.Psychotic disorders are characterized by profound social impairment. An accumulation of research has explored the contribution of symptoms, cognitive functioning, and behavioral skills deficits to this social dysfunction. Recent research indicates that sleep disturbance has significant social implications in nonclinical populations-this research suggests that sleep problems may also be relevant to understanding social impairment in psychosis. This study adopted a symptom-oriented dimensional approach to examine how sleep disturbance and sleep-related impairment are related to multiple social domains within a transdiagnostic sample (N = 90). This sample included individuals with a variety of psychotic disorders (n = 75) along with healthy non-clinical participants (n = 15) to ensure sampling across the full range of sleep problems and social functioning. Social domains spanned self-reported perceptions of social relationships, social functioning in the community, and behavioral assessments of social competence. We hypothesized that greater sleep disturbance and sleep-related impairment would be associated with more negative or problematic perceptions of social relationships (i.e., less social support, less companionship, and greater distress), poorer social functioning in the community, smaller social networks, and poorer behavioral ratings of social competency. Results supported these hypotheses indicating that sleep disturbance and sleep-related impairment have widespread deleterious impacts on perceptions of social relationships, social functioning, and competence. Sleep disturbance retained associations with perceptions of social relationships, social functioning, and social competence even after controlling for total symptoms or cognitive functioning. These findings indicate that sleep problems may have important implications for fully understanding the causes of social impairment in psychosis.
