    This paper fills a gap in the applied research field, for a local context, by addressing the topics of describing cataract surgery' clinical outcomes; quality of life (QoL); and costs of the patients treated after the implementation of the ICHOM standard set.

    This is a retrospective observational study using real-world data (RWD). We included all patients subjected to cataract surgery at the Portuguese Institute of oncology - Porto (IPO-Porto), Portugal, after 3months follow up period completed between 5th June 2017 and 21st May 2018. The following inclusion criteria corrected visual acuity of ≤ 6/10 or other significant visual disturbance due to lens opacity or the existence of a large anisometropia. A circuit was implemented based on the ICHOM standard for cataract, to measure clinical variables (e.g. visual acuity) and QoL (CATQUEST-9SF) before and after surgery, and cost of treatment. The results were explored by means of a paired-sample t-test, considering normality assumptions.

    Despite the proportion of elderly breast cancer patients has been consistently increasing, the optimal treatment modalities for this population have not been well explored. We summarized the treatment outcomes of these patients in our hospital.

    Older patients with early breast cancer were identified from the Breast Cancer Information Management System at West China Hospital, Sichuan University (2000-2019). We compared tumor characteristics and treatment outcomes between the older group (65-74 years old) and the elderly group (≥75 years old). The most successful corrective procedures for each failure category were Lester Jones Tube (LJT) for a normal post-operative DCG (17/18 success), Sisler trephination with tubes for upper/lower canalicular block (1/2 success), redo-DCR with tube for common canalicular blockage (5/6 success), redo-DCR +/- tube for completely closed anastomosis (12/16 success), LJT followed by redo-DCR +/- tube fol tool for the shared decision-making process. Notably, symptomatic patients with a normal DCG post DCR are unlikely to benefit from redo-DCR, with a LJT being the recommended next step.

    Scleral buckling (SB) is usually considered an extraocular operation premeditated to have a low risk of sympathetic ophthalmia (SO). Here we report a rare case of presumed SO in a young female patient following SB.

    A nineteen-year-old female patient was referred for visual loss in her left eye due to macula off inferior long-standing rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/400 in the left eye. SB with 360 degrees encircling band, an inferior segmental tire with one spot cryoretinopexy at the break site, and subretinal fluid drainage was performed. BCVA was improved to 20/80 and the retina was totally attached 1 week after the operation. The patient referred to the hospital 6 weeks later with severe visual loss in both eyes as counting finger 1 m. Patient examination indicated bilateral multifocal serous retinal detachment (SRD) and vitreous cells. The patient, diagnosed with SO, received intravenous corticosteroid pulse therapy and mycophenolate mofetil for treatment. The inflammation was controlled and SRD resolved after a 5-day intravenous treatment without being relapsed after 6 months. Consequently, BCVA became 20/20 and 20/50 in the right and left eye, respectively, after 6 months. The findings of systemic workup were negative for any extraocular disease or systemic involvement.

In 2019, the AAMC reported that 53 schools or over one-third of US medical schools have multi-site campuses for undergraduate medical education. Implementation of a POCUS educational initiative at a multi-site campus presents unique challenges for teaching a uniform curriculum statewide. This article will discuss the POCUS curriculum and implementation process at a large multi-site institution.Biosurfactants are environment compatible surface-active biomolecules with multifunctional properties which can be utilized in various industries. In this study a biosurfactant producing novel plant growth promoting isolate Pseudomonas guariconensis LE3 from the rhizosphere of Lycopersicon esculentum is presented as biostimulant and biocontrol agent. Biosurfactant extracted from culture was characterized to be mixture of various mono- and di-rhamnolipids with antagonistic activity against Macrophomina phaseolina, causal agent of charcoal rot in diverse crops. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) analysis confirmed the rhamnolipid nature of biosurfactant. PCR analysis established the presence of genes involved in synthesis of antibiotics diacetylphloroglucinol, phenazine 1-carboxylic acid and pyocyanin, and lytic enzymes chitinase and endoglucanase suggesting biocontrol potential of the isolate. Plant growth promoting activities shown by LE3 were phosphate solubilization and production of siderophores, indole acetic acid (IAA), ammonia and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase (ACCD). To assemble all the characteristics of LE3 various bioformuations were developed. Amendment of biosurfactant in bioformulation of LE3 cells improved the shelf life. In this study, we further investigated the effect of cardiac sympathicolysis during physical stress and increased oxygen demand.

Hemodynamics were monitored and biventricular function was measured by transthoracic two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography, pulsed wave Doppler and tissue Doppler imaging.

  • Flux through the RAF-MEK-ERK protein kinase cascade is shaped by phosphatases acting on the core components of the pathway. Despite being an established drug target and a hub for crosstalk regulation, little is known about dephosphorylation of MEK, the central kinase within the cascade. Probabilistic fuzzy neural networks (PFNN) have shown potential in dealing with uncertainties associated with both stochastic and nonstochastic noise simultaneously. Previous research work on this topic has addressed either the fuzzy-neural aspects or alternatively the probabilistic aspects, but currently a probabilistic fuzzy neural algorithm with recurrent feedback does not exist. In this article, a PFNN with a recurrent probabilistic generation module (designated PFNN-R) is proposed to enhance and extend the ability of the PFNN to accommodate noisy data. A ****-propagation-based mechanism, which is used to shape the distribution of the probabilistic density function of the fuzzy membership, is also developed. The objective of the work was to develop an approach that provides an enhanced capability to accommodate various types of noisy data. We apply the algorithm to a number of benchmark problems and demonstrate through simulation results that the proposed technique incorporating recurrency advances the ability of PFNNs to model time-series data with high intensity, random noise.While the deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) has achieved overwhelming success in various vision tasks, its heavy computational and storage overhead hinders the practical use of resource-constrained devices. Recently, compressing DCNN models has attracted increasing attention, where binarization-based schemes have generated great research popularity due to their high compression rate. In this article, we propose modulated convolutional networks (MCNs) to obtain binarized DCNNs with high performance. We lead a new architecture in MCNs to efficiently fuse the multiple features and achieve a similar performance as the full-precision model. The calculation of MCNs is theoretically reformulated as a discrete optimization problem to build binarized DCNNs, for the first time, which jointly consider the filter loss, center loss, and softmax loss in a unified framework. Our MCNs are generic and can decompose full-precision filters in DCNNs, e.g., conventional DCNNs, VGG, AlexNet, ResNets, or Wide-ResNets, into a compact set of binarized filters which are optimized based on a projection function and a new updated rule during the backpropagation. Moreover, we propose modulation filters (M-Filters) to recover filters from binarized ones, which lead to a specific architecture to calculate the network model. Our proposed MCNs substantially reduce the storage cost of convolutional filters by a factor of 32 with a comparable performance to the full-precision counterparts, achieving **** better performance than other state-of-the-art binarized models.Due to the movement expressiveness and privacy assurance of human skeleton data, 3D skeleton-based action inference is becoming popular in healthcare applications. These scenarios call for more advanced performance in application-specific algorithms and efficient hardware support. Medical monitoring that works in an always-on edge platform needs the system processor to have extreme energy efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the **-LSTM, a functional and versatile 3D skeleton-based action detection system, for the above demands. Our system achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on trimmed and untrimmed cases of general-purpose and medical-specific datasets with early-detection features. Further, the **-LSTM accelerator supports parallel inference on up to 64 input channels. The implementation on Xilinx ZCU104 reaches a throughput of 18 658 Frames-Per-Second (FPS) and an inference latency of 3.5 ms with the batch size of 64. Accordingly, the power consumption is 3.6 W for the whole FPGA+ARM system, which is 37.8x and 10.4x more energy-efficient than the high-end Titan X GPU and i7-9700 CPU, respectively. Meanwhile, our accelerator also keeps a 4 ∼ 5x energy efficiency advantage against the low-power high-performance Firefly-RK3399 board carrying an ARM Cortex-A72+A53 CPU. We designed a distance constraint for features of all entities (drugs and targets) in the latent space to ensure the close distance between adjacent entities, and defined a global probability matrix to compute the predicted DTI scores on our constructed neighborhood-based global network. Results showed that NGN obtained advantageous performance compared with other state-of-the-art methods, especially surpassing them by 4.2%-9.1% on AUPR values in the biggest dataset.

Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis caused by Ehrlichia canis and canine cyclic thrombocytopenia caused by Anaplasma platys are of veterinary importance worldwide. In Myanmar, there is limited information concerning tick-borne pathogens, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma spp., as well as genetic characterization of these species. We performed nested PCR for the gltA gene of the genus Ehrlichia spp. and the 16S rRNA gene of the genus Anaplasma spp. with blood samples from 400 apparently healthy dogs in Nay Pyi Taw area. These amplicon sequences were compared with other sequences from GenBank. Among the 400 blood samples from dogs, 3 (0.75%) were positive for E. canis and 1 (0.25%) was positive for A. platys. To date, there is not an effective cure for these diseases. In the last years, bioengineered tissues have emerged as powerful tools for preclinical studies. In this review, we summarize the recent technological advances in skeletal muscle tissue engineering. We identify several ground-breaking techniques to fabricate in vitro bioartificial muscles. The targets were continuously visible in the HMD, and the saccades were instructed by an auditory cue. Data collection and eye tracking calibration were done using the recommended scripts for each device in Unity3D. The Vive Pro Eye was recorded twice, once using the SteamVR SDK and once using the Tobii XR SDK. Our results show clear differences between the HMDs. Delays ranged from 15 ms to 52 ms, and the latencies ranged from 45 ms to 81 ms. We, therefore, tested whether drought-induced changes in floral morphology and abundance of flowers are linked to changes in pollinator visitations. We conducted flight cage experiments with a radio frequency identification system for automated visitation recordings with bumble bees (Bombus terrestris) and common charlock (Sinapis arvensis) as the model system. In total, we recorded interactions for 31 foraging bumble bees and 6569 flower visitations. We found that decreasing soil moisture content correlated with decreasing size of all measured morphological traits except stamen length and nectar tube width. The reductions in floral size, petal width and length, nectar tube depth and number of flowers resulted in decreasing visitation rates by bumble bees. These decreasing visitations under lower soil moisture availability might be explained by lower numbers of flowers and thus a reduced attractiveness and/or by increased difficulties experienced by bumble bees in handling smaller flowers. Whether these effects act additively or synergistically on pollinator behaviour and whether this leads to changes in pollen transfer and to different selectionp ressures require further investigation.

Then the performance efficiency and electroencephalogram (EEG) data acquired in the task-cuing experiment were compared among the three groups. The effect of group, task transition types and cue-stimulus intervals (CSIs) were statistically analyzed by using the repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc simple effect analysis. The subjects with lower driving error rates had better executive control efficiency as indicated by the reaction time (RT) and error rate in the task-cuing experiment, which was related with their better capability to allocate the available attentional resources, to express the external stimuli and to process the information in the nervous system, especially the fronto-parietal network. The activation degree of the frontal area fluctuated, and of the parietal area gradually increased along with the increase of CSI, which implied the role of the frontal area in task setting reconstruction and working memory maintaining, and of the parietal area in stimulus-Response (S-R) mapping expression. This research presented evidence of the close relationship between executive control functions and driving performance.Polyurea-crosslinked Ca-alginate (X-Ca-alginate) aerogel beads (diameter 3.3 mm) were evaluated as adsorbents of metal ions, organic solvents, and oils. X-Ca-alginate aerogels are hydrophobic nanoporous materials (90% v/v porosity), with a high BET surface area (459 m2/g-1), and adsorb PbII not only from ultrapure water (29 mg/g-1) but also from seawater (13 mg/g-1) with high selectivity. The adsorption mechanism involves replacement of CaII by PbII ions coordinated to the carboxylate groups of the alginate backbone. After treatment with a Na2EDTA solution, the beads can be reused, without significant loss of activity for at least two times. X-Ca-alginate aerogels can also uptake organic solvents and oil from seawater; the volume of the adsorbate can be as high as the total pore volume of the aerogel (6.0 mL/g-1), and the absorption is complete within seconds. X-Ca alginate aerogels are suitable for the decontamination of aquatic environments from a broader range of inorganic and organic pollutants.In this research, a direct, simple and ultrasensitive fiber optic particle plasmon resonance (FOPPR) biosensing platform for immunoglobulin G (IgG) detection was developed using a gold nanoparticle/graphene oxide (AuNP/GO) composite as signal amplification element. To obtain the best analytical performance of the sensor, experimental parameters including the surface concentration of GO on the AuNPs, formation time of the GO, the concentration of the anti-IgG and incubation time of anti-IgG were optimized. The calibration plots displayed a good linear relationship between the sensor response (ΔI/I0) and the logarithm of the analyte concentrations over a linear range from 1.0 × 10-10 to 1.0 × 10-6 g/mL of IgG under the optimum conditions. A limit of detection (LOD) of 0.038 ng/mL for IgG was calculated from the standard calibration curve. The plot has a linear relationship (correlation coefficient, R = 0.9990). The analytical performance of present work's biosensor was better than that of our previously reported mixed self-assembled monolayer of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid/6-mercapto-1-hexanol (MUA/MCH = 14) method by about three orders of magnitude. The achieved good sensitivity may be attributed to the synergistic effect between GO and AuNPs in this study. In addition, GO could immobilize more antibodies due to the abundant carboxylic groups on its surface. This review critiques the biological and cognitive strategies used for early intervention and outlines the extent to which they have prevented PTSD. The major predictors of PTSD are reviewed, with an emphasis on potential mechanisms that may underpin the transition from acute stress reaction to development of PTSD. This review highlights that there is a wide range of biological and cognitive factors that have been shown to predict PTSD. Despite this, the major attempts at early intervention have focused on strategies that attempt to augment extinction processes or alter appraisals in the acute period. The documented predictors of PTSD indicate that a broader range of potential strategies could be explored to limit PTSD. The evidence that people follow different trajectories of stress response following trauma and there is a wide array of acute predictors of PTSD indicates that a flexible and tailored approach needs to be investigated to evaluate more effective early intervention strategies.In this work, a hierarchically activated porous carbon (APC) was synthesized using fluorine-containing metal-organic framework via facile combined carbonization and KOH activation treatments. The influences of activation conditions on the surface structures and electrochemical performance of APC were systematically studied. Afterwards, the electrochemical responses of APC electrode were further assessed from the cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge examinations by 6 M KOH electrolyte. The as-obtained APC electrode delivered the high specific capacitances of 540.8 and 280 F g-1 at 1 and 500 A g-1, correspondingly with superior capacitance retention of 94% after 250,000 cycles even at 100 A g-1, which is showing that its outstanding capacitance, remarkable rate capacity, and very-long cyclic life. Furthermore, the as-assembled APC-based symmetrical supercapacitor offers a superb energy density of 19 Wh kg-1 at 182 W kg-1, indicating its large-scale application. In this work, 2D porous g-C3N4 (PCN) coupled exfoliated 3D Ti3C2TA MXene (TiC) nanosheets with TiO2 NPs in-situ growth was constructed in a single step through HF treatment approach. The different exfoliated TiC structures were successfully synthesized for adjusting HF etching time (24 h, 48 h and 96 h). With growing etchant time from 24 to 96 h, the amount of TiO2 produced was increased, but it has adverse effects on CO and CH4 production rate. The maximum production rates for CO and CH4 of 317.4 and 78.55 µmol g-1 h-1 were attained when the 10TiC-48/PCN was employed than using TiC-24/PCN, TiC-96/PCN and PCN composite samples, respectively. The performance of 10TiC-48/PCN composite for CO and CH4 evolution were 9.9 and 6.7 folds higher than using pristine PCN sample, respectively. The possible mechanism is assigned to porous structure with intimate contact enabling efficient charge carrier separation with the role of TiO2 NPs to work as a bridge to transport electrons towards MXene surface. Among the reducing agents, water was favorable for CO evolution, whereas, methanol-water system promoted CH4 production. All these findings confirm that heterojunction formation facilitates charges separation and can be further used in solar energy relating application.Tetrahedral CuI crystals with broadly tunable sizes from 56 to 645 nm have been synthesized by adjusting the reaction temperature, addition of different amounts of Na2SO4, or the reagent selection. The crystal growth process can be easily scaled up for catalysis applications. Bulk and surface compositions have been determined to be CuI using various characterization methods. Although larger tetrahedra show gradually decreasing band gap values, the changes are quite small. Optical facet effect should also be present for CuI by comparing the band gaps of size-tunable CuI tetrahedra to that of commercially available CuI powder. Emission band also becomes red-shifted for larger tetrahedral samples. The 56 nm CuI tetrahedra exhibit a far better catalytic performance than that of commercially available CuI powder toward click reactions of aromatic alkynes and benzyl azide for the formation of triazoles, attributed to their large surface area and exposed 111 faces. The small CuI tetrahedral nanocrystals should be explored for use in other CuI-catalyzed reactions.

This review critiques the biological and cognitive strategies used for early intervention and outlines the extent to which they have prevented PTSD. The major predictors of PTSD are reviewed, with an emphasis on potential mechanisms that may underpin the transition from acute stress reaction to development of PTSD. This review highlights that there is a wide range of biological and cognitive factors that have been shown to predict PTSD. Despite this, the major attempts at early intervention have focused on strategies that attempt to augment extinction processes or alter appraisals in the acute period. The documented predictors of PTSD indicate that a broader range of potential strategies could be explored to limit PTSD. The evidence that people follow different trajectories of stress response following trauma and there is a wide array of acute predictors of PTSD indicates that a flexible and tailored approach needs to be investigated to evaluate more effective early intervention strategies.In this work, a hierarchically activated porous carbon (APC) was synthesized using fluorine-containing metal-organic framework via facile combined carbonization and KOH activation treatments. The influences of activation conditions on the surface structures and electrochemical performance of APC were systematically studied. Afterwards, the electrochemical responses of APC electrode were further assessed from the cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge examinations by 6 M KOH electrolyte. The as-obtained APC electrode delivered the high specific capacitances of 540.8 and 280 F g-1 at 1 and 500 A g-1, correspondingly with superior capacitance retention of 94% after 250,000 cycles even at 100 A g-1, which is showing that its outstanding capacitance, remarkable rate capacity, and very-long cyclic life. Furthermore, the as-assembled APC-based symmetrical supercapacitor offers a superb energy density of 19 Wh kg-1 at 182 W kg-1, indicating its large-scale application. Thus, this work proposes a potential route to synthesize highly efficient porous carbon material for the future development of energy storage systems.Constructing efficient structured materials for artificial photosynthesis of CO2 is a promising strategy to produce renewable fuels in addition of mitigating greenhouse effect. In this work, 2D porous g-C3N4 (PCN) coupled exfoliated 3D Ti3C2TA MXene (TiC) nanosheets with TiO2 NPs in-situ growth was constructed in a single step through HF treatment approach. The different exfoliated TiC structures were successfully synthesized for adjusting HF etching time (24 h, 48 h and 96 h). With growing etchant time from 24 to 96 h, the amount of TiO2 produced was increased, but it has adverse effects on CO and CH4 production rate. The maximum production rates for CO and CH4 of 317.4 and 78.55 µmol g-1 h-1 were attained when the 10TiC-48/PCN was employed than using TiC-24/PCN, TiC-96/PCN and PCN composite samples, respectively. The performance of 10TiC-48/PCN composite for CO and CH4 evolution were 9.9 and 6.7 folds higher than using pristine PCN sample, respectively. The possible mechanism is assigned to porous structure with intimate contact enabling efficient charge carrier separation with the role of TiO2 NPs to work as a bridge to transport electrons towards MXene surface. Among the reducing agents, water was favorable for CO evolution, whereas, methanol-water system promoted CH4 production. All these findings confirm that heterojunction formation facilitates charges separation and can be further used in solar energy relating application.Tetrahedral CuI crystals with broadly tunable sizes from 56 to 645 nm have been synthesized by adjusting the reaction temperature, addition of different amounts of Na2SO4, or the reagent selection. The crystal growth process can be easily scaled up for catalysis applications. Bulk and surface compositions have been determined to be CuI using various characterization methods. Although larger tetrahedra show gradually decreasing band gap values, the changes are quite small. Optical facet effect should also be present for CuI by comparing the band gaps of size-tunable CuI tetrahedra to that of commercially available CuI powder. Emission band also becomes red-shifted for larger tetrahedral samples. The 56 nm CuI tetrahedra exhibit a far better catalytic performance than that of commercially available CuI powder toward click reactions of aromatic alkynes and benzyl azide for the formation of triazoles, attributed to their large surface area and exposed 111 faces. The small CuI tetrahedral nanocrystals should be explored for use in other CuI-catalyzed reactions.

  • There is increasing interest in the impact of dietary influences on the brain throughout the lifespan, ranging from improving cognitive development in children through to attenuating ageing related cognitive decline and reducing risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Polyphenols, phytochemicals naturally present in a host of fruits, vegetables, tea, cocoa and other foods, have received particular attention in this regard, and there is now a substantial body of evidence from experimental and epidemiological studies examining whether their consumption is associated with cognitive benefits.

    The purpose of this overview is to synthesise and evaluate the best available evidence from two sources, namely meta-analyses and systematic reviews, in order to give an accurate reflection of the current evidence base for an association between polyphenols and cognitive benefits.

    Four meta-analyses and thirteen systematic reviews published between 2017-2020 were included, and were categorised according to whether they reviewed specific polyphenol-rich foods and classes or all polyphenols. A requirement for inclusion was assessment of a behavioural cognitive outcome in humans.

    A clear and consistent theme emerged that whilst there is support for an association between polyphenol consumption and cognitive benefits, this conclusion is tentative, and by no means definitive. Considerable methodological heterogeneity was repeatedly highlighted as problematic such that the current evidence base does not support reliable conclusions relating to efficacy of specific doses, duration of treatment, or sensitivity in specific populations or certain cognitive domains. The complexity of multiple interactions between a range of direct and indirect mechanisms of action is discussed.

In destination islands that have a delicate ecosystem to maintain, this source of income can become problematic in terms of sustainability. A difficulty in making people aware of this issue is also represented by the fact that such sustainability-related issues (and their causes) are often not "visible" to citizens. To foster awareness about the relationship between sustainability and tourism in well-known destinations, we design a platform that engages users at two levels of participation i. at the IoT and sensors level, in order to let them becoming providers of big data, deploying and enlarging the pervasive infrastructure; ii. at the (big) data visualization level, with the aim of engaging them in making sense of large volumes of data related to sustainability. This paper presents the design and implementation of a real-world experience where a low-cost collaborative platform made it possible to sense and visualize tourist flows and urban data into a rich interactive map-based visualization, open to the local communities. We deployed our case study in the Madeira archipelago, engaging locals and visitors of the island in two exploratory studies focused on measuring the impact of providing users with meaningful representations of tourism flows and related unperceivable aspects that affect the environmental sustainability. Analysing the findings of the two studies, we discuss the potentiality of using such a system to make sense of big data, fostering awareness about sustainability issues, and we point to future open challenges about citizens' participation in sensing and making sense of big data.A 61-year-old woman underwent laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) with extragastric lymph node dissection (D2). Two months later, she was readmitted to hospital to be treated for chylous ascites. Oral intake was discontinued and total parenteral nutrition started, but increasing body weight and decreasing serum albumin concentration was not controllable. Percutaneous transabdominal thoracic duct embolization (PTTDE) was performed on the 8th day after the readmission. Five days after PTTDE, oral intake was resumed. Seventeen days after PTTDE, the patient was discharged without recurrence of ascites. She has remained asymptomatic. We describe here the first patient with chylous ascites two months after LADG with D2 dissection for early gastric cancer who was successfully treated by PTTDE.Serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) is clinically used for the diagnosis of interstitial pneumonia (IP) as well as the evaluation of its disease activity. She thus underwent a radical extended cholecystectomy. After the operation, serum levels of KL-6 showed a steep decline to 590 U/ml. Immunohistological examination revealed that KL-6 presented in gallbladder cancer cells. Taken together, serum KL-6 was shown to be produced by gallbladder cancer cells. Here, we present the first patient in whom increased serum KL-6 levels led to the diagnosis of gallbladder cancer during follow-up of IP. When serum levels of KL-6 are elevated during the follow-up care of IP despite no worsening of IP, an examination of the whole body should be performed to find possibly existing malignant tumors.We herein report on a male with primary accessory breast cancer in an axilla. Staining for estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) was positive, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) was negative. The Ki67 labeling index (LI) was 33.6%. Imaging revealed no evidence of a primary tumor in any other organ or in the bilateral mammary gland. We performed radical resection of the right axilla, including the scar, and axillary lymph node dissection. The final pathological examination of the surgical specimen showed normal mammary gland tissue that was not connected to the proper mammary gland, and no residual cancer or metastatic lymph nodes.

The conventional approaches for the analysis of GroPIns pose several issues in terms of sensitivity and product resolution, especially when the product is in the extracellular milieu. Here we present an UPLC-MS study for the quantitative analysis of this lipid derivative in cells and, for the first time, culture supernatants. The method is based on a solid-phase extraction that allows for fast desalting and analyte concentration. The robustness of the procedure was tested on the simultaneous measurements of intra- and extracellular levels of GroPIns in a number of human cell lines where it has been shown that the non-transformed cells are characterized by high extracellular level of GroPIns, whereas the tumor cells tended to have higher intracellular levels.

Importantly, within the past 10 years, PTCy has been widely adopted for clinical HSCT and the results at many centers have been extremely encouraging. The present studies found that Cy can be effectively employed to prolong the survival of SOT, specifically mouse corneal allografts. The results demonstrated that the timing of PTCy administration is critical for these CT and distinct from the kinetics employed following allogeneic HSCT. PTCy was observed to interfere with neovascularization, a process critically associated with immune rejection of corneal tissue that ensues following the loss of ocular "immune privilege." PTCy has the potential to delete or directly suppress allo-reactive T cells and treatment here was shown to diminish T cell rejection responses. These PTCy doses were observed to spare significant levels of CD4+ FoxP3+ (Tregs) which were found to be functional and could readily receive stimulating signals leading to their in vivo expansion via TNFRSF25 and CD25 agonists. Omalizumab blocks the mast cells' degranulation, thus interrupting the resulting inflammatory cascade driven by T-helper 2 (Th2) cytokines. The efficacy of omalizumab in controlling CSU and possible associated diseases has been studied in few patients so far. In particular, some case reports describe adults with CSU and concomitant inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). Although the treatment of CD with anti-tumor necrosis factors-α (TNF-α) seems to be effective in controlling CSU, no cases of the utility of omalizumab in patients with both conditions have been described so far. At the moment, there is no evidence that the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying CD are linked to the same pathways that are inhibited by omalizumab for the treatment of CSU. We present the first pediatric case of refractory CSU and CD in which omalizumab led to CSU remission, even if the follow-up period was limited. In conclusion, our experience shows how CSU could be associated with CD and successfully treated with the monoclonal anti-IgE antibody in a patient on immunosuppressive therapy. Omalizumab blocks the mast cells' degranulation, thus interrupting the resulting inflammatory cascade driven by T-helper 2 (Th2) cytokines. The efficacy of omalizumab in controlling CSU and possible associated diseases has been studied in few patients so far. In particular, some case reports describe adults with CSU and concomitant inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). Although the treatment of CD with anti-tumor necrosis factors-α (TNF-α) seems to be effective in controlling CSU, no cases of the utility of omalizumab in patients with both conditions have been described so far. At the moment, there is no evidence that the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying CD are linked to the same pathways that are inhibited by omalizumab for the treatment of CSU. We present the first pediatric case of refractory CSU and CD in which omalizumab led to CSU remission, even if the follow-up period was limited. In conclusion, our experience shows how CSU could be associated with CD and successfully treated with the monoclonal anti-IgE antibody in a patient on immunosuppressive therapy.     The average lag between daily Covid-19 cases and deaths was 8.053 days with a standard deviation of 4.116 days for nineteen regions. After excluding data from three more regions due to unavailable age data, the regression yielded an equation of lag = 14.015 - 0.153 (% cases above 60) with a p-value of 0.066. Because the p-value of 0.066 is lower than the 0.10 significance level, there is evidence that a relationship exists between the lag and the age of cases.

    In the COVID-19 era, efforts are being made to increase awareness among students and enhance best practices to mitigate the outbreak. To that end, the overarching aims of this study were to understand students' attitude toward and knowledge of COVID-19 and examine the predictors of their attitude toward hand hygiene.

    This cross-sectional survey study, conducted in Saudi Arabia, enrolled interns from diverse healthcare-related fields. The questionnaire was divided into three sections sociodemographic data, knowledge of COVID-19, and attitude toward hand hygiene. The data was expressed as median and interquartile range (IQR).

    In all, 371 responses were analyzed. The median knowledge score was 20, which was considered good. There were no statistically significant differences across age, hospital setting, or gender. Of the 254 respondents who had attended an educational session, 167 (65%) had a good knowledge score and 83 (33%) had a moderate score, compared with only four (2%) who had a poor score. The cumulative median score of the respondents' attitudes was 6 (IQR [2]), which reflects a suboptimal attitude-only 38 (22%) reported a good attitude. The predicted effect of knowledge on attitude (good/suboptimal) was statistically significant (p = 0.02) using univariate logistic regression.
