  • Glycans introduce complexity to the proteins to which they are attached. These modifications vary during the progression of many diseases; thus, they serve as potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis. The immense structural diversity of glycans makes glycosylation analysis and quantitation difficult. Fortunately, recent advances in analytical techniques provide the opportunity to quantify even low-abundant glycopeptides and glycans derived from complex biological mixtures, allowing for the identification of glycosylation differences between healthy samples and those derived from disease states. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of different quantitative glycomics analysis methods is important for selecting the best strategy to analyze glycosylation changes in any given set of clinical samples. To provide guidance towards selecting the proper approach, we discuss four widely used quantitative glycomics analysis platforms, including fluorescence-based analysis of released N-linked glycans and three different varieties of MS-based analysis liquid chromatography (LC)-mass spectrometry (MS) analysis of glycopeptides, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight MS, and LC-ESI-MS analysis of released N-linked glycans. These methods' strengths and weaknesses are compared, particularly associated with the figures of merit that are important for clinical biomarker studies, including the initial sample requirements, the methods' throughput, sample preparation time, the number of species identified, the methods' utility for isomer separation and structural characterization, method-related challenges associated with quantitation, repeatability, the expertise required, and the cost for each analysis. This review, therefore, provides unique guidance to researchers who endeavor to undertake a clinical glycomics analysis by offering insights on the available analysis technologies.
The gold standard to diagnose food allergy in dogs is an eight week elimination diet trial (EDT) followed by a re-challenge. A recent study demonstrated that a shorter EDT is possible if prednisolone is administered initially.

The goal was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the EDT based on the number of relapses after prednisolone discontinuation. In addition, the aim was to determine whether the initial treatment length or the replacement of prednisolone with oclacitinib would influence the outcome.

    Eighty-seven dogs with atopic dermatitis.

Dogs were fed an elimination diet and treated with either prednisolone or oclacitinib for two to three weeks. Relapsing dogs were treated a second time. In the absence of a relapse after two weeks off medication, dogs then were challenged. Dogs never achieving two weeks off treatment without relapse received the regular EDT.

Fifty-eight of 87 dogs completed the study. Thirty-nine of 58 dogs received prednisolone; 21 of these were diagnosed with FIAD and had no relapse (n=14), one relapse (n=6) or two relapses (n=1). Nineteen of 58 dogs received oclacitinib; 11 of these were deemed food-allergic and had no relapse (n=7) or two relapses (n=4). The initial treatment duration did not influence the outcome. The threshold of one relapse or less for the diagnosis of FIAD was associated with a sensitivity of 95% for prednisolone and 63% for oclacitinib. The specificity was 100% for both drugs.

Initial prednisolone or oclacitinib use in EDT shortens the time to diagnosis of FIAD.

However, little is known about how to effectively encourage large numbers of residents to reach out to others about conservation causes. We examined the influence of normative and efficacy-based messaging at motivating residents to engage in and to encourage others to participate in native plant gardening in their community. To do so, we conducted a field experiment with messages on mailings and tracked native plant vouchers used. Efficacy messages tended to be more effective than normative messages at increasing residents' willingness to reach out to others to encourage conservation action, as indicated by a several percentage point increase in native plant voucher use by residents' friends and neighbors. Messages sometimes had different impacts on residents based on past behaviors and perceptions related to native plant gardening. Among these subgroups, efficacy and combined efficacy and norm messages most effectively encouraged individual and collective actions, as indicated by increased voucher usage. Our findings suggest that interventions that build residents' efficacy for engaging in a conservation behavior and for reaching out to others may be a promising path forward for outreach. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Cladribine.html However, given our results were significant at a false discovery rate cutoff of 0.25 but not 0.05, more experimental trials are needed to determine the robustness of these trends.Mycobacterium tuberculosis contains diverse immunologically active components. This study investigated the biological function of a newly identified component, Rv1654, with the potential to induce apoptosis in macrophages. Recombinant Rv1654 induced macrophage apoptosis in a caspase-9/3-dependent manner through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and interaction with Toll-like receptor 4. In addition, Rv1654 induced the production of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 through the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. Furthermore, Rv1654-induced c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) activation was inhibited by the ROS scavenger and Rv1654-induced apoptosis was inhibited by the JNK inhibitor. Moreover, it was found that treatment of macrophages with Rv1654 led to the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, release of cytochrome c into the cytosol, and translocation of Bax into the mitochondria. Finally, Rv1654-mediated apoptosis was inhibited in macrophages transfected with Bax siRNA.

  • Next, based on the prediction by the network pharmacology analysis, the rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was established to verify the efficacy of HLJD. The results showed that HLJD reduces the degree of brain injury in MCAO rats, probably by inhibiting the expression of the 5-LOX pathway and inflammatory response. In conclusion, our study demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating network pharmacology with an experimental study for material basis of the major therapeutic diseases and the underlying molecular mechanisms of TCM.Third-generation intravenous (i.v.) iron preparations are safe and efficacious and are increasingly used in the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia. Hypophosphataemia is emerging as an established side-effect following the administration of certain compounds. Symptoms of hypophosphataemia can be masked by their similarity to those of iron-deficiency anaemia and both acute and chronic hypophosphataemia can be detrimental. Hypophosphataemia appears to be linked to imbalances in the metabolism of the phosphatonin fibroblast growth factor 23. In this narrative review, we discuss the possible pathophysiology behind this phenomenon, the studies comparing third-generation i.v. iron compounds, and the potential implications of the changes in fibroblast growth factor 23 and hypophosphataemia. We also present an algorithm of how to approach such patients requiring i.v. iron in anticipation of hypophosphataemia and how the impact related to it can be minimized. The main aim of this study was to compare coping strategies in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients and a healthy control group during COVID-19 lockdown and to analyze the relationship with some variables which may influence results (depression, anxiety, comorbidity, subtype of obsession-compulsion).
There were 237 participants, 122 OCD and 115 healthy controls, aged 17-61 years old (
    = 33.48,
    = 11.13).

Groups showed differences in the use of some adaptive strategies (positive reinterpretation, acceptance, humor) and maladaptive (denial, self-blame). Within obsessive-compulsive group, comorbidity affected the greater use of inappropriate strategies (denial, substance abuse and self-blame) while type of obsession-compulsion did not influence use. Anxiety and depression levels were related to the use of less adaptive strategies.

These findings strengthen the need for training in the use of effective and adaptive coping strategies, making it necessary to improve clinical follow-up of these patients. It is relevant to be in contact with healthcare professionals, review medication and observe the anxiety and depression levels.

One of the biggest technical challenges of the use of natural stem cells, however, is the prevention of their premature senescence during therapeutical manipulations. Culturing stem cells under hypoxic conditions is believed to be a possible route to fulfill this goal. Here, we review current literature data on the effects of hypoxia on bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells, one of the most popular tools of practical cellular therapy, in the context of their senescence.Evaluation of resistant profiles and detection of antimicrobial-resistant genes of bacterial pathogens in the nonclinical milieu is imperative to assess the probable risk of dissemination of resistant genes in the environment. This paper sought to identify antibiotic-resistant genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa from nonclinical sources in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, and evaluate its public health implications. Samples collected from abattoir wastewater and aquatic environment were processed by membrane filtration and cultured on CHROMagarTM Pseudomonas medium. Species identification was performed by autoSCAN-4 (Dade Behring Inc., IL). Molecular characterization of the isolates was confirmed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (rPCR) and selected isolates were further screened for the possibility of harboring antimicrobial resistance genes. Fifty-one Pseudomonas species were recovered from abattoir wastewater and surface water samples, out of which thirty-six strains were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (70.6%). The P. ae, the paper recommends monitoring of multidrug-resistant pathogens in effluent environments.Fresh-produce consumers may be at risk of pathogen infection due to fecal contamination of the agricultural environment. Indicators of fecal contamination may be used as a proxy to evaluate the potential presence of human pathogens, such as norovirus and hepatitis A, on agricultural samples. The objective of this systematic review was to determine whether the presence of human norovirus or hepatitis A was associated with microbial indicators in agricultural samples including fresh produce, equipment surfaces, and hands. Four databases (Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, and Agricola) were systematically searched and fifteen articles met inclusion and exclusion criteria. After data extraction, individual indicator-pathogen relationships were assessed using Cohen's Kappa coefficient. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/TGX-221.html The level of agreement between norovirus with adenovirus was 0.09 (n = 16, 95% CI -0.05, 0.23), indicating poor agreement using Landis and Koch's criterion. Similarly, the Kappa coefficient between norovirus with E. coli (κ = 0.04, n = 14, 95% CI -0.05, 0.49) or total coliforms (κ = 0.03, n = 4, 95% CI -0.01, 0.02) was also poor. The level of agreement between hepatitis A with adenovirus (κ = -0.03, n = 3, 95% CI -0.06, 0.01) or fecal coliforms (κ = 0, n = 1, 95% CI 0, 0) was also poor. There were moderate relationships between hepatitis A with E. coli (κ = 0.49, n = 3, 95% CI 0.28, 0.70) and total coliforms (κ = 0.47, n = 2, 95% CI 0.47, 0.47). Based on these limited results, common indicator organisms are not strong predictors of the presence of norovirus and hepatitis A virus in the agricultural environment.

  • The traditional approach for measuring myelin-associated water with quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses multi-echo T2 relaxation data to calculate the myelin water fraction (MWF). A fundamentally different approach, abbreviated "mcDESPOT", uses a more efficient steady-state acquisition to generate an equivalent metric (fM). Although previous studies have demonstrated inherent instability and bias in the complex mcDESPOT analysis procedure, fM has often been used as a surrogate for MWF. We produced and compared multivariate atlases of MWF and fM in healthy human brain and cervical spinal cord (available online) and compared their ability to detect multiple sclerosis pathology. A significant bias was found in all regions (p   ~ 10%, the relationship broke down and fM no longer increased in tandem with MWF. For multiple sclerosis patients, MWF and fM Z score maps showed overlapping areas of low Z score and similar trends between patients and brain regions, although those of fM generally had greater spatial extent and magnitude of severity. These results will guide future choice of myelin-sensitive quantitative MRI and improve interpretation of studies using either myelin imaging approach.Acute ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) liver injury is a clinical condition challenging to treat. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/th5427.html Meldonium is an anti-ischemic agent that shifts energy production from fatty acid oxidation to less oxygen-consuming glycolysis. Thus, we investigated the effects of a 4-week meldonium pre-treatment (300 mg/kg b.m./day) on the acute I/R liver injury in Wistar strain male rats. Our results showed that meldonium ameliorates I/R-induced liver inflammation and injury, as confirmed by liver histology, and by attenuation of serum alanine- and aspartate aminotransferase activity, serum and liver high mobility group box 1 protein expression, and liver expression of Bax/Bcl2, haptoglobin, and the phosphorylated nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells. Through the increased hepatic activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2, meldonium improves the antioxidative defence in the liver of animals subjected to I/R, as proved by an increase in serum and liver ascorbic/dehydroascorbic acid ratio, hepatic haem oxygenase 1 expression, glutathione and free thiol groups content, and hepatic copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, manganese superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione reductase activity. Based on our results, it can be concluded that meldonium represent a protective agent against I/R-induced liver injury, with a clinical significance in surgical procedures.Complementary optical and neutron-based vibrational spectroscopy techniques (Infrared, Raman and inelastic neutron scattering) were applied to the study of human bones (femur and humerus) burned simultaneously under either aerobic or anaerobic conditions, in a wide range of temperatures (400 to 1000 °C). This is the first INS study of human skeletal remains heated in an oxygen-deprived atmosphere. Clear differences were observed between both types of samples, namely the absence of hydroxyapatite's OH vibrational bands in bone burned anaerobically (in unsealed containers), coupled to the presence of cyanamide (NCNH2) and portlandite (Ca(OH)2) in these reductive conditions. These results are expected to allow a better understanding of the heat effect on bone´s constituents in distinct environmental settings, thus contributing for an accurate characterisation of both forensic and archaeological human skeletal remains found in distinct scenarios regarding oxygen availability.Fipronil (FIP) is a phenylpyrazole insecticide that is commonly used in agricultural and veterinary fields for controlling a wide range of insects, but it is a strong environmentally toxic substance. Exposure to FIP has been reported to increase the hepatic fat accumulation through altered lipid metabolism, which ultimately can contribute to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) development. The present study aimed to examine the function of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeNPs) in protecting against hepatotoxicity and lipogenesis induced by FIP. Twenty-eight male albino rats were classified into four groups FIP (5 mg/kg/day per os), CTR, CeNPs (35 mg/kg/day p.o.), and FIP + CeNPs (5 (FIP) + 35 (CeNPs) mg/kg/day p.o.) for 28 consecutive days. Serum lipid profiles, hepatic antioxidant parameters and pathology, and mRNA expression of adipocytokines were assessed. The results revealed that FIP increased cholesterol, height-density lipoprotein, triacylglyceride, low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c), and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-c) concentrations. It also increased nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) hepatic levels and reduced glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (***) enzyme activities. Additionally, FIP up-regulated the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP), acetyl Co-A carboxylase (ACC1), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α). Immunohistochemically, a strong proliferation of cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) reactions in the endothelial cells of the hepatic sinusoids, and increased expression of caspase3 were observed following FIP intoxication. FIP also caused histological changes in hepatic tissue. The CeNPs counteracted the hepatotoxic effect of FIP exposure. So, this study recorded an ameliorative effect of CeNPs against FIP-induced hepatotoxicity. To compare the encapsulation of annatto extract by external gelation (EG) and internal gelation (IG) and to maximize process yield (% Y), two central composite designs were proposed. Calcium chloride (CaCl2) concentration (0.3-3.5%), alginate to gelling solution ratio (12-16); acetic acid (CH3COOH) concentration (0.2-5.0%) and alginate to gelling solution ratio (12-16) were taken as independent variables for EG and IG respectively. Release studies were conducted under different conditions; morphology, particle size, the encapsulation efficiency (EE), and release mechanism were evaluated under optimized conditions. The optimized EG conditions were 0.3% CaCl2 and 11.2 alginate to gelling solution ratio, whereas a 0.3% CH3COOH and 15 alginate to gelling solution ratio were optimized conditions for IG. When 20% extract was employed, the highest EE was achieved, and the largest release was obtained at a pH 6.5 buffer. The Peppas-Sahlin model presented the best fit to experimental data. Polyphenol release was driven by diffusion, whereas bixin showed anomalous release.

During the Middle Ages, the Christian church established itself as the dominant force over all aspects of medieval life, including the practice of medicine. As the Church's influence expanded across Europe, the role of lay practitioners in medicine declined, and clerics gradually assumed the role of healers in surgical practice as the cure of the soul was felt to take precedence over cure of bodily ills.

A retrospective analysis of hospital foundation, old-school surgical techniques still used today was performed during the first part of the Middle Age.

The Hospital Hotel Dieu in Paris was founded and remains the oldest worldwide still-operating hospital. The monastery became a resting place for travelers, as well as a place of refuge for the sick. As this role expanded, monks often developed considerable surgical expertise. This led to fierce competition for saintly relics and pilgrims. Among the myriad of saints to whom powers of healing were ascribed, the names of Damian and Cosmas figure prominently in medical history. Old-school medieval surgery was also performed with some bizarre techniques such as lip service by wound suckers, cautery, blood-letting, leech therapy, and maggot therapy.

This account of surgery before it became scientific is based on a chronology that runs from the Clovis baptism to the reign of Charlemagne; **** of the medicine in this period was based on ancient doctrines; indeed, **** of the development of medicine in the period called as "Dark Age" was due to the slow and difficult business of recovering and trying to understand ancient medicine.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of autologous concentrated adipose tissue for the treatment of knee OA.

Eighty-seven patients with knee arthritis from grade 1 to 3, according to Kellgren-Lawrence scale, have been treated with knee arthroscopy and successive intra-articular injection of concentrated adipose tissue. The efficacy of the treatment has been evaluated by the Knee Society Score, Lysholm Score, Forgotten Joint Score, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score and Noise Reporting Scale.

A total of 78/87 patients concluded the study. Overall, the patients were satisfied with the intervention and a significant reduction of the pain was observed in 67 patients, while the others did not report any change in pain severity or worsening. A statistically significant improvement was observed in the considered orthopaedic index, and no major adverse effects were described. The first week after the intervention, most patients reported knee swelling. Five patients failed because they underwent knee replacement surgery between five and ninemonths from treatment.

In patients with knee OA, a single intra-articular injection of autologous adipose tissue reduced knee pain, stiffness, improved knee function and quality of life without severe complications.

Childhood maltreatment elevates risk for common mental disorders (CMDs) during late adolescence and adulthood. Although CMDs are highly prevalent among university students, few studies have examined the relationship between childhood maltreatment and 12month CMDs in a low- to middle-income countries. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/AZD8055.html This paper describes the prevalence of maltreatment and the relationship between type, number and patterns of maltreatment exposure and 12month CMDs among first-year university students in South Africa.

Maltreatment and CMD data were collected via well-validated self-report scales (corresponding with DSM-IV diagnoses) in a web-based survey of first-year students from two large urban universities (n = 1290) in South Africa. Various multivariate modelling approaches (additive, restrictive interactive and latent class) were used to examine the relationship between maltreatment and CMDs.

Overall, 48.4% of participants reported childhood maltreatment, the most common type being emotional abuse (26.7%). Regardleschildhood maltreatment.
To synthesise the evidence on effectiveness, acceptability and the delivery mechanisms of psychosocial interventions for self-harm in low and middle income countries and to develop a pathway of change specific for self-harm interventions.

Studies reporting one or more patient or implementation outcomes of a psychosocial intervention targeting self-harm and conducted in low- and middle-income countries were included. Taxonomy of treatment components and a theory of change map was created using information from the studies.

We identified thirteen studies including nine randomised controlled trials (RCT), three non-RCTs, and a single experimental case design study. A single study using postcard contact and another using cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) reported a reduction in self-harm attempts. Suicidal ideations were significantly reduced with CBT, volitional help sheets and postcard contact in different studies. Suicide risk assessment, problem solving and self-validation were the most frequently used reporting of various intervention delivery models in low- and middle-income countries were major literature gaps.
Numerous long-term results for both medial and lateral unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) demonstrate that UKA is areliable and successful treatment for isolated anteromedial or lateral osteoarthritis of the knee when the correct indications are used. The relationship between operation volume and implant performance has clearly been established from recent studies and registry data. The use of novel technologies allows for an improvement in the accuracy of implant positioning with fewer outliers. However, evidence-based target zones for the positioning of available implants have not been sufficiently established.

Current data does not support the routine use of patient-specific instruments or custom-made implants.

Robot-assisted procedures must be interpreted as avery promising approach for the future. So far, there is insufficient evidence that robotically assisted surgical techniques improve implant performance or lead to better functional results from the patient's point of view.

  • The human vestibulospinal tract has important roles in postural control, but it has been unknown whether vestibulospinal tract excitability is influenced by the body's postures. We investigated whether postures influence the vestibulospinal tract excitability by a neurophysiological method, i.e., applying galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) 100 ms before tibial nerve stimulation evoking the soleus H-reflex. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gdc-0084.html GVS is a percutaneous stimulation, and it has not been clarified how the cutaneous input from GVS influences the facilitation effect of cathodal GVS on the soleus H-reflex amplitude. In Experiment 1, we evaluated the effects of GVS on the soleus H-reflex amplitude of subjects in the prone, supine, and sitting positions in random order to clarify the differences in the GVS effects among these postures. In Experiment 2, to determine whether the effects of GVS in the supine and sitting positions are due solely to cutaneous input from GVS, we provided GVS and cutaneous stimulations as conditioning stimuli and compared the effects in both postures. Interaction effects between postures and stimulus conditions were observed in both experiments. The facilitation rate of the maximum H-reflex amplitude by GVS in the sitting position was significantly higher than those in the prone and supine positions (Experiment 1). The facilitation rate of GVS was significantly larger than the cutaneous stimulation only in the sitting position (Experiment 2). These results indicate that vestibulospinal tract excitability may be higher in the sitting position than in either lying position (prone and supine), due mainly to the increased need for postural control. The aim of this study is to present our experience on the use of the holmiumyttrium-aluminum-garnet (HoYAG) laser in pediatric patients for pediatric urolithiasis and describe the optimal settings. A total of 116 children who underwent urolithiasis treatment (percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), ureterorenoscopy (URS), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS)) were included. The mean age of the patients was 8.4 ± 5.2 years (1-18). The mean follow-up was 26 ± 8.8 months (9-45). There was no difference between the mean stone sizes of PNL and RIRS patients (p = 0.816). Operations were performed with 200, 272, and 365-μm fibers. In mini-URS, stone fragmentation was achieved with the energy settings set between 0.5 and 1 J and frequency set to > 8 Hz. In RIRS, fragmentation was achieved with the setting of 0.5-0.8 J at 10-20 Hz. Stone fragmentation was performed with energy settings of 0.8 to 2 J between 5 and 15 Hz for PNL. There was no significant difference between the stone-free rates of the PNL and RIRS (p = 0.150). Four postoperative complications occurred (Clavien II), which included febrile urinary infections in two patients who underwent mini-URS, one patient who underwent PNL, and one patient who underwent RIRS. Our results confirmed that Ho-YAG laser can be effectively used in children for stone treatment by using low-energy high-frequency settings for URS and RIRS and a high energy setting for PNL.Complete surgical resection, most often associated with perioperative chemotherapy, is the only way to offer a chance of cure for patients with pancreatic cancer. One of the most important factors in determining survival outcome that can be influenced by the surgeon is the R0 resection. However, the proximity of mesenteric vessels in cephalic pancreatic tumors, especially the mesenterico-portal venous axis, results in an increased risk of vein involvement and/or the presence of malignant cells in the venous bed margin. A concomitant venous resection can be performed to decrease the risk of a positive margin. Given the additional technical difficulty that this implies, many surgeons seek a path between the tumor and the vein, hoping for the absence of tumor infiltration into the perivascular tissue on pathologic analysis, particularly in cases with administration of neoadjuvant therapy. The definition of optimal surgical margin remains a subject of debate, but at least 1 mm is an independent predictor of survival after pancreatic cancer surgical resection. Although preoperative radiologic assessment is essential for accurate planning of a pancreatic resection, intraoperative decision-making with regard to resection of the mesenterico-portal vein in tumors with a venous contact remains unclear and variable. Although venous histologic involvement and perivascular infiltration are not accurately predictable preoperatively, clinicians must examine the existing criteria and normograms to guide their surgical management according to the integration of new imaging techniques, preoperative chemotherapy use, tumor biology and molecular histopathology, and surgical techniques.
To compare the incidence of rotator cuff (RC) tears on shoulder ultrasounds of patients with RC calcific tendinopathy (CaT) to that of a control group without CaT.

In this retrospective case-control study, 50 shoulder ultrasounds of patients with CaT were compared independently by 2 musculoskeletal radiologists to 50 patients from a control group without CaT to catalog the number and type of RC tears. RC tears in the CaT group were further characterized based on location, into tears in the specific tendon(s) containing calcium versus all tendon tears.

RC tears were diagnosed in 38% (19/50) of the control group (16 full-thickness) as compared to 22% (11/50) with CaT (6 full-thickness). The fewer full-thickness tears in the CaT group (12%, 6 of 50) compared to that in the control group (32%, 16 of 50) was statistically significant (P = 0.016, odds ratio 0.29). Only 7 of the 11 tears in the CaT group were in a calcium-containing tendon (3 full-thickness). The fewer calcium-containing tendon tears compared n of rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy.
In patients with shoulder pain and CaT, we observed a decreased number of RC tears and especially calcium-containing tendon tears, as compared to similar demographic patients with shoulder pain but without CaT. Key Points • Patients with rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy have few rotator cuff tears, especially full-thickness tears, compared to a control group without calcific tendinopathy. • The tendons containing the calcium hydroxyapatite deposition were the least likely to have a rotator cuff tear. • Future studies could evaluate if calcium hydroxyapatite deposition provides a protective mechanism against rotator cuff tears. • Musculoskeletal ultrasound is more sensitive than MRI in the evaluation of rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy.

  • Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer and the second highest cause of cancer mortality in female patients. The significance of the expression of Galectin-3 has been correlated with various malignancy types and in data from several research papers, the expression of Galectin-3 has been associated with the progression and metastasis of breast cancer. In the present study, the authors' goal is to identify whether the expression of Galectin-3 in breast cancer can be associated with the presence and/or recurrence of a metastatic disease. Both Scopus and PubMed databases were utilized, by inputting the following combination of keywords (((Breast) AND Metastasis)) AND ((Galectin 3) OR Galectin-3). The time of publication and text availability were not considered when searching the databases and all relevant articles in English were initially accepted. We included one case-control study, three retrospective case studies and one retrospective cohort study. In two of the included studies, the levels in concentration of Galectin-3 were not correlated with a significant difference in prognosis. In two studies, the lacking in expression of Galectin-3 was associated with a worse prognosis and in one of the studies selected, the elevated levels of Galectin-3 were correlated with recurrence of disease in triple negative breast cancer cases. For most of the studies selected for this review, the results were contradictory in regard to the role of Galectin-3 for prognosis and metastatic potential in female breast cancer patients. It is still unclear, whether Galectin-3 can be used as a prognostic marker for advanced breast cancer disease. Our previous studies have shown that miR-125b-5p was highly expressed and significantly upregulated during abdominal fat deposition in chickens. However, the role of miR-125b in the regulation of adipogenesis is not clear in chickens. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of miR-125b-5p on preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation and the interaction between miR-125b-5p and the acyl-CoA synthetase bubblegum family member 2 (ACSBG2) gene in adipogenesis in chicken abdominal adipose tissue. Here, transfection tests of miR-125b-5p mimic/inhibitor were performed in preadipocytes, and the effects of miR-125b-5p on preadipocytes proliferation and differentiation were analyzed. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gsk2830371.html The target site of miR-125b-5p in the 3'UTR (untranslated region) of ACSBG2 were verified by a luciferase reporter assay. Our results showed that miR-125b-5p overexpression inhibited proliferation and reduced the number of cells in S phase and G2/M phase in preadipocytes; conversely, miR-125b-5p inhibition promoted the proliferation and increased the number of cells in S phase and G2/M phase. In adipocytes after induction, miR-125b-5p overexpression led to a notable increase in the accumulation of lipid droplets as well as in the concentration of triglycerides, while miR-125b-5p inhibition had the opposite effect. Furthermore, miR-125b-5p could directly bind to the 3'UTR of ACSBG2, and its overexpression could significantly repress the mRNA and protein expression of ACSBG2. These results indicate that miR-125b-5p can inhibit preadipocyte proliferation and can promote preadipocyte differentiation to affect adipogenesis in chicken abdominal adipose tissues, at least partially by downregulating ACSBG2.Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) differentiate into different cell types and have immunomodulatory and paracrine effects. Cryopreservation of umbilical cord tissue as a source of ****is very promising for regenerative medicine. We aim to evaluate a protocol for cryopreserving this tissue sectioned into small fragments with viable MSC. A total of 723 samples were frozen, thawed and cultured to obtain primary cultures of MSC. These were followed until 90-100% confluence and flow cytometric analysis were performed to confirm the mesenchymal phenotype. Samples in which protocol alterations at the collection of the samples were reported, were excluded for microbial contamination analysis leaving a total of 634 samples composed of 181 vaginal and 453 cesarean births. All cultures reach confluence with a media of 22.57 days and 97% in 28 or fewer days. Evaluated cultures showed low percentage of CD45+ and high of CD73 and CD90. Eight samples were subcultured 4 or 5 times and differentiated to chondrocytes and osteocytes to test differentiation potential with positive results. Umbilical cord tissue collections showed similar microbial profile and risk factors to those reported of umbilical cord blood collections, but with higher contamination frequencies. Cryopreserved tissue samples had viable cells that can be expanded without losing differentiation potential. Higher contamination frequencies compared to umbilical cord blood collection are not surprising, however, microbial load and survival of microorganisms to cryopreservation are expected to be lower.Cross-talk among inflammation and colorectal cancer cells is chiefly reported through a complex of cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors. MicroRNA performs strategic roles in controlling a variety of signaling cascades. miR-34a is known as a master regulator of tumor suppression. Combined application of different miRNA-based agents and chemotherapeutic drugs has been used to augment drug sensitivity and may reinforce the antitumor effect. A lot of studies specify a substantial increase in the effectiveness of combination therapies. The anti-inflammatory activity of Zerumbone (ZER) was investigated in many cancers. In this study the level of the inflammatory cytokines including CXCL-12 (SDF-1), CCL-2 (MCP-1), TGF-β and IL-33 has been measured in pmiR-34a-5p transfected and pmiR-34a-5p +ZER treated CRC cell lines (HCT-116 and SW48) by QRT-PCR and ELISA methods, respectively. The results showed that miR-34a could significantly inhibit cytokine expression in both cell lines for 48 and 72 h except SDF-1 which s can be compensated by another one.Shimotsuto is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine used to treat gynecological diseases, such as irregular menstruation, in addition to oversensitivity to cold and chilblains. Part of the pharmacological actions of shimotsuto is traditionally considered to be exerted by an improvement effect of the blood and the circulatory system. Multiple ingredients (e.g., catalpol and paeoniflorin) contained in shimotsuto have been reported to have pharmacological activities on the blood and circulatory system, and thus been considered to contribute to the pharmacological actions of shimotsuto. However, it remains unclear whether the ingredients can be absorbed into the body following oral administration of shimotsuto. The aim in the present study was to specify shimotsuto ingredient absorbed into the systemic circulation in rats. Seven candidate active ingredients (catalpol, paeoniflorin, albiflorin, ligustilide, senkyunolide A, butylphthalide, and ferulic acid) in plasma after oral administration of shimotsuto were quantified by targeted liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis.

Cryopreservation of umbilical cord tissue as a source of MSC is very promising for regenerative medicine.

  • Sub-acute exposure revealed that BCDPs differentially modulated cell viability, migration and invasion, as well as the expression of proteins linked to EMT. Results showed a reduction in the epithelial marker E-cadherin and a parallel increase in the mesenchymal markers N-cadherin, mainly after exposure to charcoal and wood. Migration and invasion were also increased. In conclusion, our results suggest that BCDPs with a higher content of organic compounds (e.g. PAHs) in their chemical composition might play a crucial role in inducing pro-carcinogenic effects on epithelial cells.
Since the incidental discovery and systematic introduction of mechanical endovascular stroke treatment in 2015 there are few reports about the real-life situation in daily clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanical thrombectomy data documented in the quality assurance database of the German Societyfor Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR) and the German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR) in 2019.

We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and procedural data of all mechanical thrombectomies that were entered into the voluntary nationwide database in 2019. The information of each procedure was provided on astandardized web-based data sheet. Data were exported and analyzed by agroup of experts on behalf of the DGNR.

Atotal of 13,840 data sets from 158 participating centers could be analyzed. Mean age of the patients was 74 ± 13years; 53.9% were female. Vessel occlusion was located in the anterior circulation in 87.4%, in the posterior circulation in 10.7% largest documented cohort of acute stroke patients treated by thrombectomy. The documentation allows for adetailed evaluation of procedural, clinical, logistic and radiation exposure data and might be used for monitoring the quality of the treatment on anationwide scale.
The analysis represents the largest documented cohort of acute stroke patients treated by thrombectomy. The documentation allows for a detailed evaluation of procedural, clinical, logistic and radiation exposure data and might be used for monitoring the quality of the treatment on a nationwide scale.Increased migration, the omnipresent desire to travel, climate change and a globally more mobile population enhance the risk of spreading infectious, tropical pathogens across international borders. In addition to diarrhea and fever, skin diseases present one of the most common reasons for a medical consultation upon return among travelers. These diseases are often caused by parasites. Detailed data on infectious travel diseases is scarce. However, demographic, endemic and travel-related information represent the basic requirements for physicians to choose appropriate diagnostics and adequate treatment for affected patients. This article gives an overview of common parasitic travel dermatoses, their specific diagnostic workup, treatment and preventive measures. The selective detection of salicylaldehyde skeleton is of great significance in phytochemistry and biological research but rarely reported. In this research, a simple and highly selective "turn-on" fluorescence sensor (CDB-Am) for salicylaldehyde skeleton was developed based on switch of photoinduced electron transfer (PET) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE). CDB-Am bearing amino-cyanodistyrene structure responded to salicylaldehyde in the range of 3.1 to 40 μM with a detection limit of 0.94 μM. The sensing process of formation of Schiff-base adduct CDB-SA was confirmed by 1H NMR, MS, and FT-IR spectra, revealing that a recovered AIE property accounted for the turn-on fluorescence response of CDB-Am and the intramolecular hydrogen bonding played a crucial role in the disruption of PET process. This sensing ability was successfully applied for both fluorescence qualitative test of salicylaldehyde skeleton on TLC analysis and quantitative detection of salicylaldehyde skeleton with good accuracy in the root bark of Periploca sepium, suggesting the extensive applications in phytochemistry and traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Furthermore, CDB-Am exhibited the first excellent fluorescence imaging ability in detecting salicylaldehyde skeleton in a living system. This work supplied a new strategy of preparing a novel "turn-on" fluorescence probe for detecting salicylaldehyde skeleton in complex environments and living bodies. As a nonspecific phosphomonoesterase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) plays a pivotal role in tissue mineralization and osteogenesis which is an important biomarker for the clinical diagnosis of bone and hepatobiliary diseases. Herein, we described a novel electrochemical method that used aminoferrocene (AFC) as an electroactive probe for the ALP activity detection. In the condition with imidazole and N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC), the AFC probe could be directly labeled on single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) by one-step conjugation. Specifically, thiolated ssDNA at 3'-terminals was modified to the electrode surface through Au-S bond. In the condition without ALP, AFC could be labeled on ssDNA by conjugating with phosphate groups. In the presence of ALP, phosphate groups were catalyzed to be removed from the 5'-terminal of ssDNA. The AFC probe cannot be labeled on ssDNA. Thus, the electrochemical detection of ALP activity was achieved. Under optimal conditions, the strategy presented a good linear relationship between current intensity and ALP concentration in the range of 20 to 100 mU/mL with the limit of detection (LOD) of 1.48 mU/mL. More importantly, the approach rendered high selectivity and satisfactory applicability for ALP activity detection. In addition, this method has merits of ease of operation, low cost, and environmental friendliness. Thus, this strategy presents great potential for ALP activity detection in practical applications. An easy, sensitive and reliable strategy was developed for the detection of alkaline phosphatase activity via electrochemical "Signal off".Antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria causes serious health issues worldwide. Bacteria employ several resistance mechanisms to cope with antimicrobials. One of their strategies is to reduce the permeability of antibiotics either through general diffusion porins or substrate-specific channels. In this study, one of the substrate-specific channels from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, OccK8 (also known as OprE), was investigated using single-channel electrophysiology. The study also includes the investigation of permeability properties of several amino acids with different charged groups (i.e. arginine, glycine and glutamic acid) through OccK8. We observed four different conformations of the same OccK8 channel when inserted in lipid bilayers. This is in contrast to previous studies where heterologous expressed OccK8 in E. coli showed only one conformation. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/lanraplenib.html We hypothesized that the difference in our study was due to the expression and purification of the native channel from P. aeruginosa. The single-channel uptake characteristics of the porin showed that negatively charged glutamic acid preferentially interacted with the channel while the positively charged arginine molecule showed infrequent interaction with OccK8.

  • The predominant cellular fatty acids of strain L22-9T are C16  0, summed feature 3 (C16  1 ω6c and/or C16  1 ω7c) and summed feature 8 (C18  1 ω7c and/or C18  1 ω6c). The respiratory quinones consist of Q-9 and Q-8. The polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified phosphoglycolipids, two unidentified aminophospholipids and an unidentified glycolipid. Based on the evidence, we conclude that strain L22-9T represents a novel species, for which the name Pseudomonas bijieensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is L22-9T (=CGMCC 1.18528T=LMG 31948T), with a DNA G+C content of 60.85 mol%.A pink-pigmented, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, strictly aerobic bacterial strain MIMtkB3T, was isolated from moss crusts in Hunshandake desert of China. Cells grew at 15-45 °C (optimum of 28 °C), at pH of 6.0-8.5 (optimum of 7.0) and with 0-1.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum of 0 %). The strain could biosynthesize the green-coloured pigment bacteriochlorophyll a (BChl a). The respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10, while C18  1 ω7c and C18  1 2OH were the major fatty acids. Phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified aminophospholipid, one unidentified phospholipid, three unidentified glycolipid and one unidentified lipid were the major polar lipids. Strain MIMtkB3T was most closely related to Oleisolibacter albus NAU-10T, Niveispirillum fermenti CC-LY736T, and Rhodocista centenaria SW of the family Rhodospirillaceae with 16S rRNA gene similarities of 93.09, 92.02 and 91.73%, respectively. The genomic DNA G+C content calculated on complete genome sequencing was 69.3 mol%. The average nucleotide identity between strain MIMtkB3T and its closely related type strains in Rhodospirillaceae was below 77.96 % and digital DNA-DNA hybridization lower than 24.70 %. Full light utilization pathway of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria was identified in the genome. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics, strain MIMtkB3T represents a novel genus of the family Rhodospirillaceae, for which the name Aerophototrophica crusticola gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MIMtkB3T (=KCTC 42633T=**** 1K00570T).A novel bacterium designated G55GPT and pertaining to the family Acetobacteraceae was isolated from the gut of the Madagascar hissing cockroach Gromphadorhina portentosa. The Gram-negative cells were rod-shaped and non-motile. The complete 16S rRNA sequence of the strain G55GPT showed the highest pairwise similarity to Gluconacetobacter johannae CFN-Cf-55T (95.35 %), suggesting it represents a potential new genus of the family Acetobacteraceae. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene and 106 orthologous housekeeping protein sequences revealed that G55GPT forms a monophyletic clade with the genus Commensalibacter, which thus far has also been isolated exclusively from insects. The G55GPT genome size was 2.70 Mbp, and the G+C content was 45.4 mol%, which is lower than most acetic acid bacteria (51-68 mol%) but comparable to Swingsia samuiensis AH83T (45.1 mol%) and higher than Commensalibacter intestini A911T (36.8 mol%). Overall genome relatedness indices based on gene and protein sequences strongly supported the assignment of G55GPT to a new genus within the family Acetobacteraceae. The percentage of conserved proteins, which is a useful metric for genus differentiation, was below 54 % when comparing G55GPT to type strains of acetic acid bacteria, thus strongly supporting our hypothesis that G55GPT is a member of a yet-undescribed genus. The fatty acid composition of G55GPT differed from that of closely related acetic acid bacteria, particularly given the presence of C19  1 ω9c/ω11c and the absence of C14  0 and C14  0 2-OH fatty acids. Strain G55GPT also differed in terms of metabolic features such as its ability to produce acid from d-mannitol, and its inability to produce acetic acid from ethanol or to oxidize glycerol to dihydroxyacetone. Based on the results of combined genomic, phenotypic and phylogenetic characterizations, isolate G55GPT (=LMG 31394T=DSM 111244T) is considered to represent a new species in a new genus, for which we propose the name Entomobacter blattae gen. nov., sp. nov.
Dizziness after concussion is primarily attributed to effects on the brain, but traumatic inner ear disorders can also contribute. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a common vestibular disorder that can result from minor head trauma and can be easily diagnosed and rapidly treated in an office setting. The role of BPPV in pediatric postconcussive dizziness has not been well-studied.

To evaluate the prevalence and clinical features of BPPV in a group of pediatric patients with concussion and prolonged dizziness after concussion.

    Case-control study.

    Level 3.

Retrospective review of 102 patients seen within the past 3 years in a pediatric multidisciplinary concussion clinic for evaluation of postconcussive dizziness.

BPPV was diagnosed in 29.4% (30/102) of patients with postconcussion syndrome and dizziness. All patients with BPPV were treated with repositioning maneuvers, except for 5 patients who had spontaneous resolution of symptoms. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/vbit-4.html Patients were evaluated at an average of 18.8 weeksxpedite recovery.
BPPV is a treatable cause of dizziness caused by minor head injuries and is more common than previously reported in pediatric patients with concussion. Improved awareness of BPPV by concussion providers may expedite recovery.Intracranial electrophysiological research methods, including those applying electrodes on the cortical surface or in deep structures, have become increasingly important in human neuroscience. They also pose novel ethical concerns, as human studies require the participation of neurological patients undergoing surgery for conditions such as epilepsy and Parkinson's disease. Research participants in this setting may be vulnerable to conflicts of interest, therapeutic misconception, and other threats to valid recruitment and consent. We conducted semi-structured interviews with investigators from NIH-funded studies involving recording or stimulation inside the human skull. We elicited perspectives on study recruitment and consent procedures, and analyzed transcripts using a modified grounded theory approach. We interviewed 26 investigators from 19 separate intracranial electrophysiology studies, who described two study types opportunity studies (n = 15) and experimental trials (n = 4). Respondents described significant heterogeneity in recruitment and consent procedures, even among studies employing similar techniques.

  • Borehole geophysical data support the high permeability of the uppermost permeable zone in the LFA. Average simulated head, normalized salinity, and ammonia concentration residuals over all monitoring wells were -1.37 ft, 0.01, and -0.67 mg/L, respectively. Model results are consistent with undetectable ammonia concentrations in the Upper Floridan aquifer.
To examine the developmental outcomes of children born to opioid-dependent females enrolled in methadone maintenance and identify pre- and postnatal factors that place these children at developmental risk.

Ninety-nine methadone-maintained females and their 100 infants (42 females, 58 males, mean gestational age 38.8wks) were recruited during pregnancy/at birth and studied to age 2years alongside a regionally representative comparison group of 108 non-methadone-maintained females and their 110 infants (62 females, 48 males, mean gestational age 39.2wks). Information about perinatal exposure was collected from medical records, maternal urine and infant meconium toxicological analysis, maternal interviews (at birth and at 18mo), and a home visit (at 18mo). At age 2years, child neuromotor function, cognition, language, and emotional/behavioral dysregulation were assessed.

Opioid-exposed children achieved lower motor, cognitive, and language scores and had poorer self, emotional, eating/feeding, and sensory postnatal environmental factors, and the direct effects of prenatal opioid exposure.
These children and families are extremely high-risk and need antenatal and postnatal support. Children exposed to opioids during pregnancy have pervasive developmental difficulties by age 2 years. These challenges are largely explained by adverse pregnancy and socio-environmental exposures, emphasizing the importance of specialist prenatal care and postnatal intervention support. What this paper adds Children born to opioid-dependent females are at high risk of pervasive developmental problems. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bgb-290.html These problems span a range of functional domains, including motor, cognitive, language, and behavioral/emotional dysregulation. Contributing factors include other adverse pregnancy exposures, postnatal environmental factors, and the direct effects of prenatal opioid exposure. In this study, response surface methodology was employed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) process of perilla seed meal polysaccharides (PSMP). The optimal conditions for UAE of PSMP were liquid-solid ratio of 26.00 mL/g, ultrasonic temperature of 43.00 °C, ultrasonic time of 52.00 min, and ultrasonic power of 229.00 W, the optimal conditions lead to an yield of 6.137 ± 0.062%. The structural characteristics of molecular weight, compositional monosaccharides, and glycosidic linkages were determined by size exclusion chromatography with multiangle light scattering, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Fourier-transfer infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance detections. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that many holes were formed on the surface of PSM after UAE. The antioxidant activities of PSMP were investigated using various assays in vitro. The results suggested that PSMP is potential natural resource of antioxidants for medicine and functional foods. PRACTICAL APPLICATION The selection of raw material perilla seed meal is conducive to the comprehensive utilization of edible resources. With consumer demands for newly developed foods with natural, wholesome ingredients are increasing nowadays. This study provides effective reference for in-depth research on other medicine-food dual-use resources. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is a promising alternative method for hot water reflux extraction (HWRE) of polysaccharides for advantages of high efficiency and energy saving. In this work, the UAE process optimized by response surface methodology is more suitable for industrial application that can effectively decrease total cost of production by reducing the extraction temperature, shortening extraction time, and increasing raw material utilization.Blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) is a fruit recognized in the world as healthy, and many of its active ingredients have important physiological functions. This study analyzed the antioxidant activity, antitumor activity, and immune function of anthocyanins and polyphenols extracted from blueberries. The crude extracts of anthocyanins and polyphenols were obtained from blueberries and then purified, and the extract exhibited excellent dose-dependent antitumor activity and antioxidant activity in vivo and in vitro. The purified anthocyanins and polyphenol compounds showed higher antioxidant activity, whereas the crude extract had a better inhibitory effect on tumor proliferation than pure extract, and the blueberry anthocyanin and polyphenol crude product mixture showed a more powerful tumor suppressor, which may be the result of the synergistic effect of multiple compounds. The crude extracts were also more efficient at improving immune function, as reflected by measurements of change in body weight, thymus and spleen indices, macrophage phagocytosis, lymphocyte transformation capacity, superoxide dismutase activity, malondialdehyde content, and serum nitric oxide levels. These results indicate that blueberry anthocyanins and polyphenol extracts can improve immune function and reduce the metastasis and proliferation of cancer cells. This study reveals the functions of important active substances in blueberries and provides support for the development of functional health products and therapeutic drugs. PRACTICAL APPLICATION We compared the biological activity of crude and purified anthocyanins and polyphenol extracts from blueberries and tested their effects on improving immune function. This study contributes to a better understanding of the bioactivity of blueberry extracts and is valuable for further applications of blueberries in medicine.Asthenozoospermia, defined by the absence or reduction of sperm motility, constitutes the most frequent cause of human male infertility. This pathological condition is caused by morphological and/or functional defects of the sperm flagellum, which preclude proper sperm progression. While in the last decade many causal genes were identified for asthenozoospermia associated with severe sperm flagellar defects, the causes of purely functional asthenozoospermia are still poorly defined. We describe here the case of an infertile man, displaying asthenozoospermia without major morphological flagellar anomalies and carrying a homozygous splicing mutation in SLC9C1 (sNHE), which we identified by whole-exome sequencing. SLC9C1 encodes a sperm-specific sodium/proton exchanger, which in mouse regulates pH homeostasis and interacts with the soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC), a key regulator of the signalling pathways involved in sperm motility and capacitation. We demonstrate by means of RT-PCR, immunodetection and immunofluorescence assays on patient's semen samples that the homozygous splicing mutation (c.
Borehole geophysical data support the high permeability of the uppermost permeable zone in the LFA.
