In this work, we have tested the effect of two different RBS sequences (RBS1 GGAGGA and RBS2 AGGAGA) and three different promoters (PcpcB, PcpcB 560, and PrbcL 2) on the growth and glycogen production in SbtA-overexpressing Synechococcus sp. PCC 7002 cells. Our results show that PcpcB or PcpcB 560 were more effective than PrbcL 2 in increasing the growth and glycogen content. The choice of RBS sequence had relatively minor effect, though RBS2 was more effective than RBS1. The transformant E, with PcpcB 560 and RBS2, showed the highest growth. The biomass after 5 days of growth on air or 1% CO2 was increased by about 90% in the strain E compared to PCC 7002 cells. All transformants overexpressing SbtA had higher glycogen content. However, growing the cells with bubbling of 1% CO2 did not increase cellular glycogen content any further. The strain E had about 80% higher glycogen content compared to WT PCC 7002 cells. Therefore, the glycogen productivity of the strain E grown with air-bubbling was about 2.5-fold that of the WT PCC 7002 cells grown similarly. Additionally, some of the transformants had higher chlorophyll content while all the transformants had higher carotenoid content compared to the PCC 7002 cells, suggesting interaction between carbon transport and pigment levels. Thus, this work shows that the choice of photosynthetic promoters and RBSs sequences can impact growth and glycogen accumulation in SbtA-overexpressing cells.
Angiopoietin-like protein 3(ANGPTL3) is an important regulator of lipoprotein metabolism in the fed state by inhibiting the enzyme lipoprotein lipase in oxidative tissues. However, the possible role of ANGPTL3 throughout gestation and its relationship with hormonal and biochemical variables are still unknown. The aim of this study was to determinate serum ANGPTL3 level in healthy non-pregnant women, during healthy and preeclamptic pregnancy and postpartum.

In this perspective article, we provide an overview of the efficacy of weight reduction on pediatric NAFLD treatment, discuss the pros and cons of currently approved pharmacotherapy options, as well as drugs commonly used off-label for weight reduction in children and adolescents. We also highlight gaps in, and opportunities for, streamlining obesity trials to include NAFLD assessment as a valuable, secondary, therapeutic outcome measure, which may aid drug repurposing. The residual analysis has been shown to be effective in classical anomaly detection problems. However, it is a nontrivial task in multivariate time series as the temporal dependency between the time series observations complicates the residual modeling process. Methodologically, we propose a unified learning framework to characterize the residuals and their coherence with the temporal aspect of the whole multivariate time series. Experiments on real-world datasets are provided showing the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.This study proposes the time-/event-triggered adaptive neural control strategies for the asymptotic tracking problem of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with full-state constraints. First, we design a time-triggered strategy. The effect caused by the residuals of the estimation via radial basis function (RBF) neural networks (NNs), and the reasonable upper bounds on the first derivative of the reference signal and the derivative of each virtual control, can be eliminated by designing appropriate adaptive laws and utilizing the basic properties of RBF NNs. Moreover, the construction of the barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) in this work ensures the compliance of the full-state constraints and also holds the asymptotic output tracking performance. Then, based on the time-triggered strategy, we further design a relative threshold event-triggered strategy. The proposed event-triggered adaptive neural controller can solve the main control objective of this work, that is 1) the full-state constraint requirements of the system are not violated and 2) the output signal asymptotically tracks the reference signal. Compared with the traditional method, the event-triggered strategy can improve the utilization of communication channels and resources and has greater practical significance. Finally, an example of single-link robot under the proposed two strategies illustrates the validity of the constructed controllers.The minimum error entropy (MEE) criterion is a powerful approach for non-Gaussian signal processing and robust machine learning. However, the instantiation of MEE on robust classification is a rather vacancy in the literature. The original MEE purely focuses on minimizing Renyi's quadratic entropy of the prediction errors, which could exhibit inferior capability in noisy classification tasks. To this end, we analyze the optimal error distribution with adverse outliers and introduce a specific codebook for restriction, which optimizes the error distribution toward the optimal case. Half-quadratic-based optimization and convergence analysis of the proposed learning criterion, called restricted MEE (RMEE), are provided. The experimental results considering logistic regression and extreme learning machine on synthetic data and UCI datasets, respectively, are presented to demonstrate the superior robustness of RMEE. Furthermore, we evaluate RMEE on a noisy electroencephalogram dataset, so as to strengthen its practical impact.This article presents theoretical results on the multistability of switched neural networks with Gaussian activation functions under state-dependent switching. Four sets of sufficient conditions are derived to ascertain the existence of 7p1 5p2 3p3; equilibrium points, and 4p1 3p2 2p3 of them are locally stable, wherein p₁, p₂, and p₃ are nonnegative integers satisfying 0 ≤ p₁ + p₂ + p₃ ≤ n and n is the number of neurons. It implies that there exist up to 7n equilibria, and up to 4n of them are locally stable when p₁ = n. Information accessibility is an urgent challenge for blind individuals. Although many types of tactile displays were created for different applications, we especially focus on the tactile display for visually impaired people, which can dynamically generate tangible graphics and braille characters, to help the blind obtain information conveniently. However, achieving a complete HBV cure requires therapies that can directly target the cccDNA pool, either via degradation, lethal mutations or functional silencing. In this review, we discuss cutting-edge technologies that could lead to non-cytolytic direct cccDNA targeting and cure of infected hepatocytes.
Patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (aHCC) and Child-Pugh B liver function are often excluded from clinical trials. In previous studies, overall survival for these patients treated with sorafenib was ∼3-5 months; thus, new treatments are needed. Nivolumab, alone or in combination with ipilimumab, is conditionally approved in the United States to treat patients with aHCC who previously received sorafenib. We describe nivolumab monotherapy outcomes in patients with Child-Pugh B status.
This phase I/II, open-label, non-comparative, multicentre trial (27 centres) included patients with Child-Pugh B (B7-B8) aHCC. Patients received intravenous nivolumab 240mg every 2 weeks until unacceptable toxicity or disease progression. Primary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR) by investigator assessment (using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors v1.1) and duration of response. Safety was assessed using National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v4.0.
Twenty-fi Child-Pugh A status. The evidence from this study suggests that nivolumab shows clinical activity and an acceptable safety profile in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma with Child-Pugh B status who have mild to moderate impairment of liver function or liver decompensation that might rule out other therapies. Further studies are warranted to assess the safety and efficacy of nivolumab in this patient population.

Macrophage activation plays an important role in inflammation. Ginsenoside Compound K (CK) is an active metabolite of ginsenoside Rb1, which is adopting to an anti-inflammatory effective substance. In order to clarify the mechanism of ginsenoside CK on the regulation of macrophage activation in adipose tissue, the macrophage model was incubated with the supernatant of hypertrophic adipocytes, and the co-culture models of Raw264.7 and 3T3-L1 were established. Nivolumab, alone or in combination with ipilimumab, is conditionally approved in the United States to treat patients with aHCC who previously received sorafenib. We describe nivolumab monotherapy outcomes in patients with Child-Pugh B status. This phase I/II, open-label, non-comparative, multicentre trial (27 centres) included patients with Child-Pugh B (B7-B8) aHCC. Patients received intravenous nivolumab 240mg every 2 weeks until unacceptable toxicity or disease progression. To evaluate the impact of elective endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) on the carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) and central pressure waveform, through 1-year follow-up.
A tonometric device was used to measure cfPWV and estimate the central pressure waveform in 20 patients with an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm scheduled for elective EVAR. The evaluated central hemodynamic parameters included the central pressures, the augmentation index (AIx), and the subendocardial viability ratio (SEVR). AIx quantifies the contribution of reflected wave to the central systolic pressure, whereas SEVR describes the myocardial perfusion relative to the cardiac workload. Measurements were performed before EVAR, at discharge, and 6 weeks and 1 year after EVAR.
CfPWV was increased at discharge (12.4±0.4 vs 11.3±0.5 m/s at baseline; p=0.005) and remained elevated over the course of 1-year follow-up (6 weeks cfPWV = 12.2±0.5 m/s; 1 year cfPWV = 12.2±0.7 m/s, p<0.05). After an initial drop in systolic central pressure at discharge, all the central pressures increased thereafter up to 1 year, without significant differences compared with baseline. The purpose of this study was to 1) understand staff experiences using managed intake, 2) explore staff perceptions of how the C4C model has been regarded by other staff at their facility, and 3) explore the response of community members who are attempting to relinquish their cats, as perceived by the staff who are communicating with cat owners and scheduling relinquishment. Participants recruited from shelters who practiced C4C participated in a semi-structured interview and completed a written survey to share their experiences and perceptions of C4C. Based on the perceptions of the participants, evidence suggests the waitlist may decrease the admission of owned cats to the shelter as a result of advising cat owners about alternatives to relinquishment. The findings suggest that more research is needed to understand the potential impacts of managed intake, as an element of C4C, on the welfare of cats in the community who are waiting to be admitted to a shelter.
Examine the presentation and clinical course of patients with bacterial tracheitis (BT). Identify if socioeconomic differences exist among children who present with BT.
This was a retrospective case series from a tertiary care pediatric medical center. The study group included patients less than 18 years old who were diagnosed with BT from January 2011 to March 2019. Patients with a tracheostomy and those who developed BT after prolonged hospitalization were excluded. Patient demographics were compared with the demographics of the counties surrounding the hospital.
33 patients with BT met inclusion criteria. The most common presenting symptoms were difficulty breathing, stridor, and sore throat (81.8% each), followed by cough (78.8%). Median length of stay was 3 days [interquartile range (IQR)2-4]. 19 patients (57.5%) were admitted to the intensive care unit. Intubation was required for 13 patients (39.4%), for a median length of 2 days [IQR2-2]. Methicillin sensitive staphylococcus aureus was the most common bacterial etiology (33%). Mean presenting age was 8.58 years [95% confidence interval7.3-9.9] and 14 patients were female (42.4%). 31 patients were white (93.9%), 1 was black (3%), and 1 was Hispanic (3%). BT patients were more likely to have private insurance compared to comparison (81.8% vs 63.4%,

This qualitative descriptive study focused on the everyday understanding of dementia and the impact of stigma on the caregiving experiences of informal female Nigerian dementia caregivers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of 12 adult informal female caregivers in Nigeria and analyzed for themes. An email survey was sent to 474 HCW at a Midwestern HealthCare facility between April 9, 2020 and April 30, 2020. A total of 311 (65.6%) responses were received by May 31, 2020. On decomposing the effective thermal conductivity tensor into various molecular-scale contributions, it was identified that the thermal conductivity enhancement is due to the increased amount of heat transfer inside the graphene filler, particularly along the longer in-plane axis. Based on the lattice statistical mechanics accounting for finite sizes and dipole moments of ions, Bjerrum pairs and solvent molecules, we consider the formation of Bjerrum pairs and derive the mathematical expressions for Bjerrum pair number density as well as cation/anion number density and water molecule number density. We reveal several significant phenomena. Firstly, it is shown that our approach naturally yields the equilibrium constant for dissociation-association equilibrium between Bjerrum pairs and ions. Secondly, at low surface charge densities, an increase in the bulk concentration of Bjerrum pairs enhances the permittivity and decreases the differential capacitance. Next, for the cases where Bjerrum pairs in an alcohol electrolyte solution have a high value of dipole moment, the Bjerrum pair number density increases with decreasing distance from the charged surface, and the differential capacitance and permittivity are high compared to those for the cases with lower values of Bjerrum-pair dipole moments. Finally, we show that the difference in the concentration and dipole moment of Bjerrum pairs can lead to some variation in osmotic pressure between two similarly charged surfaces.Developing ranking anode materials with sufficient electrical conductivity, ultrafast ion diffusion ability and considerable storage capacity is of great importance for rechargeable ion batteries but still challenging. Herein, using first-principles calculations, the potential of monolayer Nb2N as an anode material for alkali metal (e.g., Li, Na, K and Ca) ion batteries (LIBs, SIBs, PIBs and CIBs) has been explored. The calculated results indicate that the Nb2N monolayer is dynamically and thermally stable with excellent electronic conductivity. To be specific, the Li, Na, K and Ca atoms can be steadily adsorbed on the Nb2N monolayer with a low adsorption energy of -0.996, -1.263, -1.568, and -1.401 eV, respectively. Impressively, the calculated low diffusion barriers for Li, Na, K and Ca on the Nb2N monolayer are 0.047, 0.029, 0.015 and 0.051 eV, respectively, implying its high performance for the ultrafast charge and discharge processes. On decomposing the effective thermal conductivity tensor into various molecular-scale contributions, it was identified that the thermal conductivity enhancement is due to the increased amount of heat transfer inside the graphene filler, particularly along the longer in-plane axis. The ability of these complexes to act as catalysts for the ring opening polymerisation (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) was investigated, as well as co-polymerisation of ε-CL with rac-lactide (r-LA) and vice versa.In this paper, we investigate the consequences of ion association, coupled with the considerations of finite size effects and orientational ordering of Bjerrum pairs as well as ions and water molecules, on the electric double layer near charged surfaces. Based on the lattice statistical mechanics accounting for finite sizes and dipole moments of ions, Bjerrum pairs and solvent molecules, we consider the formation of Bjerrum pairs and derive the mathematical expressions for Bjerrum pair number density as well as cation/anion number density and water molecule number density. We reveal several significant phenomena. Firstly, it is shown that our approach naturally yields the equilibrium constant for dissociation-association equilibrium between Bjerrum pairs and ions. Secondly, at low surface charge densities, an increase in the bulk concentration of Bjerrum pairs enhances the permittivity and decreases the differential capacitance. Next, for the cases where Bjerrum pairs in an alcohol electrolyte solution have a high value of dipole moment, the Bjerrum pair number density increases with decreasing distance from the charged surface, and the differential capacitance and permittivity are high compared to those for the cases with lower values of Bjerrum-pair dipole moments. Finally, we show that the difference in the concentration and dipole moment of Bjerrum pairs can lead to some variation in osmotic pressure between two similarly charged surfaces.Developing ranking anode materials with sufficient electrical conductivity, ultrafast ion diffusion ability and considerable storage capacity is of great importance for rechargeable ion batteries but still challenging. Herein, using first-principles calculations, the potential of monolayer Nb2N as an anode material for alkali metal (e.g., Li, Na, K and Ca) ion batteries (LIBs, SIBs, PIBs and CIBs) has been explored. The calculated results indicate that the Nb2N monolayer is dynamically and thermally stable with excellent electronic conductivity. To be specific, the Li, Na, K and Ca atoms can be steadily adsorbed on the Nb2N monolayer with a low adsorption energy of -0.996, -1.263, -1.568, and -1.401 eV, respectively. Impressively, the calculated low diffusion barriers for Li, Na, K and Ca on the Nb2N monolayer are 0.047, 0.029, 0.015 and 0.051 eV, respectively, implying its high performance for the ultrafast charge and discharge processes. More importantly, the maximum storage capacities are 536 mA h g-1 for LIBs and 1072 mA h g-1 for CIBs, which are much larger than those of common anode materials. QIS has its origins in industry and IR in behavioral science and health services research. Despite overlap in purpose, the 2 sciences have evolved separately. Thought leaders in QIS and IR have argued the need for improved collaboration between the disciplines. The Veterans Health Administration's Quality Enhancement Research Initiative has successfully employed QIS methods to implement evidence-based practices more rapidly into clinical practice, but similar formal collaborations between QIS and IR are not widespread in other health care systems. Acute care teams are well positioned to improve care delivery and implement the latest evidence. We provide an overview of QIS and IR; examine the key characteristics of QIS and IR, including strengths and limitations of each discipline; and present specific recommendations for integration and collaboration between the 2 approaches to improve the impact of QI and implementation efforts in the hospital setting.

Low-middle-income countries experience among the highest rates of traumatic brain injury in the world. **** of this burden may be preventable with faster intervention, including reducing the time to definitive care. This study examines the relationship between traumatic brain injury severity and time to definitive care in major trauma hospitals in three low-middle-income countries.
A prospective traumatic brain injury registry was implemented in six trauma hospitals in Armenia, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova for 6 months in 2019. Brain injury severity was measured using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) at admission. Time to definitive care was the time from injury until arrival at the hospital. Cox proportionate hazards models predicted time to care by severity, controlling for age, sex, mechanism, mode of transportation, location of injury and country.
Among 1135 patients, 749 (66.0%) were paediatric and 386 (34.0%) were adults. Falls and road traffic were the most common mechanisms. A higher proportion of adult (23.6%) than paediatric (5.4%) patients had GCS scores indicating moderate (GCS 9-11) or severe injury (GCS 0-8) (p<0.001). Less severe injury was associated with shorter times to care, while more severe injury was associated with longer times to care (HR=1.05, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.09). Age interacted with time to care, with paediatric cases receiving faster care.

S. aureus ATCC 29213 and Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 were selected as reference QC strains. Broth microdilution ****QC ranges for exebacase spanned 4 log2 dilutions and contained 99.2% of the ****results generated for the two reference strains. Based on our recent demonstration that accumulation of activated Lyn tyrosine kinase is a key pathophysiological event in human ChAc cells, we took advantage of Vps13a-/- ****, which phenocopied human ChAc. Although localized aggressive periodontitis (LAP), generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAP), and chronic periodontitis (CP) are microbially driven diseases, our inability to separate disease-specific associations from those common to all three forms of periodontitis has hampered biomarker discovery. Therefore, we aimed to map the genomic content of, and the biological pathways encoded by, the microbiomes associated with these clinical phenotypes. We also estimated the extent to which these biomes are governed by the Anna Karenina principle (AKP), which states that eubiotic communities are similar between individuals while disease-associated communities are highly individualized.
We collected subgingival plaque from 25 periodontally healthy individuals and diseased sites of 59 subjects with stage 3 periodontitis and used shotgun metagenomics to characterize the aggregate of bacterial genes.

There are no reports on the incidence of chronic mercury poisoning in a large population in China. This study investigated the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, treatment, and follow-up of Chinese patients with chronic mercury poisoning.
Data for 288 mercury poisoning patients were collected at our hospital from July 2014 to September 2019, including sex, age, admission time, blood mercury content, urine mercury content, creatinine, urinary mercury/creatinine ratio, 24-h urinary protein levels, electromyography (EMG) findings, renal biopsy, and follow-up. Patient characteristics were evaluated by statistical and correlation analyses.
First, mercury poisoning in China mainly occurred through occupational exposure and the inappropriate use of mercury-containing cosmetics and Chinese folk remedies (CFRs). Second, the most common symptoms were nervous system (50.3 %), kidney (16.4 %) and breathing (8.0 %). Mercury poisoning-induced Nephrotic syndrome (NS) and peripheral neuropathy are common long-term complications. The complications of occupational and cosmetics-induced mercury poisoning are consistent with international belief. However, the NS caused by CFRs is mainly membranous nephropathy and the probability of peripheral neuropathy caused by CFRs is higher than other pathogens. Third, follow-up data shows that 13 patients with EMG-confirmed neurological injury, 10 showed full recovery after 38.50 ± 8.03 months. Furthermore, among 18 patients with NS, 15 had normal urine protein and serum albumin levels after 22.67 ± 10.26 months.

Food allergy can result in life-threatening anaphylaxis and is considered an increasing public health burden. Hospitalized patients are dependent on the hospital menu to meet their nutritional needs; thus, errors in the meals provided can have a substantial impact on patients' health outcomes. In Israel, no specific policy protocol exists to ensure food allergy safety in the setting of a hospital foodservice system.
This paper has two aims 1) to provide an in-depth review of food allergy as a major public health concern and 2) to report actions taken in a single large medical center, as an ongoing project that aimed to ensure patients' safety, and which ended in developing policy on this matter.
During the years 2017-2019, we initiated several interventions with the goal of achieving food allergy safety and ensuring quality of care for patients with food allergies at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center. These included integrating food management safety into the computerized foodservice system, higd patients must be adapted such as to create a uniformly safe food environment of healthcare systems, and developing a suitable policy should be prioritized accordingly by hospitals across Israel, with collaboration and synergy between institutions management and the departments of nutrition and patient safety and risk management.

There are no reports on the incidence of chronic mercury poisoning in a large population in China. This study investigated the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, treatment, and follow-up of Chinese patients with chronic mercury poisoning. Data for 288 mercury poisoning patients were collected at our hospital from July 2014 to September 2019, including sex, age, admission time, blood mercury content, urine mercury content, creatinine, urinary mercury/creatinine ratio, 24-h urinary protein levels, electromyography (EMG) findings, renal biopsy, and follow-up. Patient characteristics were evaluated by statistical and correlation analyses. First, mercury poisoning in China mainly occurred through occupational exposure and the inappropriate use of mercury-containing cosmetics and Chinese folk remedies (CFRs). Second, the most common symptoms were nervous system (50.3 %), kidney (16.4 %) and breathing (8.0 %). Mercury poisoning-induced Nephrotic syndrome (NS) and peripheral neuropathy are common long-term complications. The complications of occupational and cosmetics-induced mercury poisoning are consistent with international belief. However, the NS caused by CFRs is mainly membranous nephropathy and the probability of peripheral neuropathy caused by CFRs is higher than other pathogens. Third, follow-up data shows that 13 patients with EMG-confirmed neurological injury, 10 showed full recovery after 38.50 ± 8.03 months. Biomass obtained from microalgae research studies gained momentum in recent years because of their extensive application potential in multiple industries such as high-value nutraceuticals, bioproducts, cosmetics, animal feed industries, and biofuels while being a sustainable and environmentally friendly option. Although they have high biomass yields and rapid growth rates there are some limitations and challenges that remain for large-scale commercialized cultivation and harvesting methods of microalgae. Since there are multiple pathways related to efficient cultivation and harvesting methods to be viable, this study adopted, TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution), a multicriteria decision-making tool, to find the most acceptable alternative by using excel spreadsheets to evaluate the information that is derived from literature and pilot-scale studies. As a result, tubular (helical) and plate (flat panel) photobioreactors (PBRs) for cultivation and chemical harvesting (with chitosan) and bio-flocculation for harvesting were deemed suitable, while plastic bag PBR and suspended air flotation were deemed unsuitable.Carbamate compounds are commonly applied in agricultural sectors as alternative options to the recalcitrant organochlorine pesticides due to their easier breakdown and less persistent nature. Hence, from the environmental point of view, the elimination of carbamates is a worldwide concern and priority. Microbial technology can be deliberated as a potential tool that can work efficiently and as an ecofriendly option for the dissipation of carbamate insecticides from contaminated environments by improving biodegradation processes via metabolic activities of microorganisms. A variety of bacterial and fungal species have been isolated and characterized and are capable of degrading a broad range of carbamates in soil and water environments. In addition, microbial carbamate hydrolase genes (mcd, cehA, cahA, cfdJ, and mcbA) were strongly implicated in the evolution of new metabolic functions and carbamate hydrolase enzymes. However, the accurate localization and appropriate functions of carbamate hydrolase enzymes/genes are very limited. To explore the information on the degradation routes of carbamates and promote the application of biodegradation, a study of molecular techniques is required to unlock insights regarding the degradation specific genes and enzymes. Hence, this review discusses the deep understanding of carbamate degradation mechanisms with microbial strains, metabolic pathways, molecular mechanisms, and their genetic basis in degradation.

However, significant debate exists about the role of BCS in this regard, with some studies also showing no benefit in terms of mortality along with issues such as overdiagnosis, health care utilisation costs, psychological distress or overtreatment. To date, no BCS study has focused on disability. Hence the aim of this study is to evaluate the relative contribution of BCS approaches to age-standardized mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rates along with other related risk factors, from a country-level perspective.
This study created a country-dataset by merging information from the Global Burden of Disease study regarding female age-standardized ** mortality, DALYs rates and other risk factors with the BCS programme availability at the national or regional level (versus no or only pilot such programme), BCS type (mammography, dif BCS on DALYs too. Additional factors, such as diabetes, high levels of LDL-c or smoking seemed to be related to ** mortality and disability, and could be considered as additional components of possible interventions to be used alongside BCS to optimize the BCS benefit on patients.

We systematically searched the PubMed and Europe PMC database using specific keywords related to our aims until December 10th, 2020. All articles published on COVID-19 and OSA were retrieved. The quality of the study was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) tool for observational studies. Statistical analysis was done using Review Manager 5.4 software. A total of 21 studies with 54,276 COVID-19 patients were included in this meta-analysis. This meta-analysis showed that OSA was associated with composite poor outcome [OR 1.72 (95% CI 1.55-1.91), p<0.00001, I =36%, random-effect modeling] and its subgroup which comprised of severe COVID-19 [OR 1.70 (95% CI 1.18-2.45), p=0.005], ICU admissions [OR 1.76 (95% CI 1.51-2.05), p<0.00001], the need for mechanical ventilation [OR 1.67 (95% CI 1.48-1.88), p<0.00001], and mortality [OR 1.74 (95% CI 1.39-2.19), p<0.00001]. Extra care and close monitoring should be provided to patients with OSA to minimize the risk of infections.
