We systematically searched (May, week 4, 2020) MEDLINE (accessed by PubMed), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and the US National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials Registry ( http//www.clinicaltrials.gov ). There were no date limitations or language restrictions. Randomized, placebo-controlled, single or double-blinded, add-on trials of cenobamate in adult patients with uncontrolled focal-onset seizures were identified. Main outcomes included the proportion tive and control arms (RR 2.27, 95% CI 1.08-4.79; p = 0.031). AEs were reported in 76.9 and 66.8% of the patients during treatment with cenobamate and placebo (RR 1.14, 95% CI 1.02-1.26; p = 0.021). The cenobamate-associated AEs included somnolence, dizziness, fatigue, balance disorder, and diplopia.

In the present study, the anticancer potential of the unique flavonoid-myricetin in A549 lung cancer cells was evaluated. Among different doses of myricetin, 73 μg/ml was more effective to prevent the cancer cell growth. It also promoted sub-G1 phase aggregation of cells and a equivalent decrease in the fraction of cells entering the S and subsequent phase which indicates apoptotic cell death. Myricetin generated enormous free radicals and, altered the potential of mitochondrial membrane in A549 cells as paralleled to untreated cells. In addition, myricetin treatment intensified the expression of P53 and relegated the expression of EGFR in A549 cells. These results suggested that myricetin exhibits cytotoxic potential by arresting the progression of cell cycle and ROS-dependent mitochondria-mediated mortality in cancer A549 lung cancer cells and it would be useful to develop as a drug candidate for lung cancer therapeutics. In silico experiments were carried out against human EGFR and P53 tumor suppressor protein to gain more insights into the binding mode of the myricetin may act as significant potential for anticancer therapy.

To evaluate sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, and use of sleep medication among university students in Jordan and toexamine differences in these problems in relation to selected demographic and health-risk behaviors.
The study used a cross-sectional design and a multi-stage sampling technique. Differences in sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, and use of sleep medication were found in relation to students' gender, income, marital status, smoking status, and academic achievement.

The optimal mode of long-term positive airway pressure (PAP) treatment for obesity-hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is not clear. The objectives of this study were to analyze whether or not patients with severe OHS treated with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) remained controlled with this therapy over the long term and to investigate which variables were associated with CPAP failure and the need to switch to non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
In a retrospective single-center study, patients admitted to the hospital because of severe OHS between 1996 and 2015 were analyzed. A multiple regression analysis was performed in order to determine which variables were associated with either CPAP success or failure to maintain long-term control.
Of 126 consecutive patients, 115 accepted long-term PAP treatment. CPAP or NIV treatment was prescribed according to a protocol that included overnight polysomnographic PAP titration. Follow-up time was 8.0 ± 4.8 years. At the end of this period, 29% of CPAP-treated patients had been re-assigned to NIV because of recurrence of global respiratory failure.

Calciphylaxis is a rare, but serious, kidney complication. Calciphylaxia is a vasculopathy of small blood vessels characterized by the deposition of calcium deposits in intimal arterioles with the consequent proliferation of intima, fibrosis and thrombosis.
The aim was to show the significance of recognition of calciphylaxis relies on heightened clinical awareness of the presence of atypical skin nodules or ulcers that occur in patients with hemodialysis dependence and to characterize features of calciphylaxis or components of treatment that may lead to improved outcome.
We present the case of 84-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease and diabetes mellitus as well as severely painful, firm, indurated plaques on the lower extremities. The plaques progressed to involve larger areas with associated local ulceration and necrosis. Laboratory testing revealed hyperparathyroidism and incisional skin biopsy confirmed calciphylaxis. Wound microbiology confirmed Staphylococcus aureus.
The diagnosis can be based on clinical grounds, supported by histological analysis if possible. The laboratory workout must cover all the possible implications of chronic kidney disease with special attention to Ca+ and P+ values and evidence of skin or systemic infection. Calciphylaxis must be known by dermatologist as early diagnosis and proper management can be decisive for better prognosis.
The diagnosis can be based on clinical grounds, supported by histological analysis if possible. The laboratory workout must cover all the possible implications of chronic kidney disease with special attention to Ca+ and P+ values and evidence of skin or systemic infection. Calciphylaxis must be known by dermatologist as early diagnosis and proper management can be decisive for better prognosis.
Idiopathic Idiopathic membranous nephropathy (iMN) is an immune-complex mediated renal disease which is usually associated with the nephrotic syndrome (NS). The course of the disease is variable. Some patients maintain normal kidney function with or without a spontaneous remission of proteinuria, while others progress to end-stage renal failure or die from complications related to the nephrotic syndrome. Whether or not to treat a patient with idiopathic membranous nephropathy is still controversial. The controversy is mainly related to the toxicity of the therapy and the variable natural course of the disease-spontaneous remission occurs in 40-50% of patients.
The aim of this study was to describe our experience of treatment of an idiopathic membranous nephropathy (iMN), efficacy and complications rate.
Our patient was older, mail gender, in high-risk group with persistent proteinuria 10,68 g/day and stable renal function. We have taken these factors into consideration, along with age and other comorbid start of therapy, whom to treat, best sequence of the use of the various immunosuppressive drugs must be based on an individualized assessment of risks and benefits.
The Vietnamese Society of Interventional Radiology (VSIR) is one of the world's youngest interventional radiology (IR) societies, with more than 150 members. During the first decade of the development phase, in addition to a number of achievements, the VSIR has continued to address problematic circumstances.
This article aims to describe the current status of VSIR, to introduce VSIR to other IR societies.
We investigated VSIR, using internet sources and related academic and clinical papers.
VSIR was founded in 2010 and has succeeded in advancing education and scientific research during the last 10 years.
VSIR is widely involved and accepted in Vietnamese medicine. We recommend the launch of an IR training program and support a unified global IR platform, for the benefit of both clinicians and patients in the near future.

The e physical anatomical characteristics of Vietnamese people are similar to those of other East Asian populations, with a deep and narrow pelvis but an average body mass index (BMI) among patients at the advanced stage of rectal cancer.
This study aimed to prospectively evaluate the short-term outcomes of transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) for rectal cancer treatment in a Vietnamese population.
A total of 64 patients who underwent TaTME were included in this study. The pelvic anatomical parameters, BMI, operative morbidities, macroscopic qualities of the mesorectal specimens, circumferential resection margins, and anal sphincter functional data were collected. The method popularized by Quirke and Kirwan's classification were used to assess to quality of the mesorectal specimens and the sphincter function, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0.
The mean age and BMI of the patients were 66.4 years and 20.5 kg/m2, respectively. Most patients had narrow pelvises, with mean transverse pelvic outlet diameters of 10.

In light of this shortcoming, we performed a selective literature search of guidelines and clinical studies relating to the use of metronidazole for mild CDIs. The evaluation of randomised controlled trials demonstrates that, in statistical terms, vancomycin is significantly superior to metronidazole (NNT 16). When large cohort studies are included, this difference in effectiveness is reduced to 2,5 % (NNT 40). Inconsistent criteria for defining a mild CDI, different doses, applications and time intervals (e. g. additional IV administration of metronidazole) and the retrospective nature of some studies make it difficult to identify the influence of possible interference variables in this evaluation. Nevertheless, a mild CDI can be successfully treated with metronidazole; other recommendations, particularly those of American associations, should be evaluated critically. However, there are currently conflicting international guidelines governing metronidazole-based treatment of mild infections. In light of this shortcoming, we performed a selective literature search of guidelines and clinical studies relating to the use of metronidazole for mild CDIs. The evaluation of randomised controlled trials demonstrates that, in statistical terms, vancomycin is significantly superior to metronidazole (NNT 16). When large cohort studies are included, this difference in effectiveness is reduced to 2,5 % (NNT 40). Inconsistent criteria for defining a mild CDI, different doses, applications and time intervals (e. g. additional IV administration of metronidazole) and the retrospective nature of some studies make it difficult to identify the influence of possible interference variables in this evaluation. Nevertheless, a mild CDI can be successfully treated with metronidazole; other recommendations, particularly those of American associations, should be evaluated critically. The total volatile fatty acids (VFA) concentration and the proportion of acetate, based on beef cattle database, were significantly decreased with increasing NOP supplementation (p = 0.0015, R 2 = 0.804 and p = 0.0003, R 2 = 0.918), whereas other individual VFAs was increased. Based on the dairy database, increasing levels of NOP supplementation linearly decreased proportion of acetate (p = 0.0284, R 2 = 0.769) and increased that of valerate (p = 0.0340, R 2 = 0.522), regardless of significant change on other individual VFAs. In animal performances, the DMI, from beef cattle database, tended to decrease when the levels of NOP supplementation increased (p = 0.0574, R 2 = 0.170), whereas there was no significant change on DMI from dairy cattle database. The call of nursing and suckling, plus a click sound, were used as a nursing sound stimulus that was played in the intervals of 35 min (T35), 40 min (T40) and 45 min (T45) right after the first parturition in each experimental group until the day of weaning. Nursing sound stimuli did not affect the sow feed intake and **** fat thickness loss. No differences were detected among treatments in the percentages of sows returning to estrus within 5 days after weaning and sows without crushed piglets. However, the piglets' weaning weight and daily weight gain in T35 and T40 groups was greater (p less then 0.01) than the controlled piglets. Efforts to increase knowledge and improve occupational health in nail salons should include information on multiple possible workplace hazards and how to reduce impacts of exposure.Rubisco is central to carbon assimilation, and efforts to improve the efficiency and sustainability of crop production have spurred interest in phenotyping Rubisco activity. We tested the hypothesis that microtiter plate-based methods provide comparable results to those obtained with the radiometric assay that measures the incorporation of 14CO2 into 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA). Three NADH-linked assays were tested that use alternative coupling enzymes glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and glycerolphosphate dehydrogenase (GlyPDH); phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH); and pyruvate kinase (PK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). To date there has been no thorough evaluation of their reliability by comparison with the 14C-based method. The three NADH-linked assays were used in parallel to estimate (i) the 3-PGA concentration-response curve of NADH oxidation, (ii) the Michaelis-Menten constant for ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate, (iii) fully active and inhibited Rubisco activities, and (iv) Rubisco initial and total activities in fully illuminated and shaded leaves. All three methods correlated strongly with the 14C-based method, and the PK-LDH method showed a strong correlation and was the cheapest method. PEPC-MDH would be a suitable option for situations in which ADP/ATP might interfere with the assay. GAPDH-GlyPDH proved more laborious than the other methods. Thus, we recommend the PK-LDH method as a reliable, cheaper, and higher throughput method to phenotype Rubisco activity for crop improvement efforts.
Can risks associated with novelties in assisted reproduction technologies (ARTs) be assessed in a systematic and structured way?
An ART-specific risk assessment tool has been developed to assess the risks associated with the development of novelties in ART (EuroGTP II-ART).
How to implement new technologies in ART is well-described in the literature. The successive steps should include testing in animal models, executing pre-clinical studies using supernumerary gametes or embryos, prospective clinical trials and finally, short- and long-term follow-up studies on the health of the offspring. A framework categorizing treatments from experimental through innovative to established according to the extent of the studies conducted has been devised. However, a systematic and standardized methodology to facilitate risk evaluation before innovations are performed in a clinical setting is lacking.

The prognosis of patients with mediastinal lymph node (LN) metastasis (pN2 stage III disease) is still unsatisfactory. Both systemic and local recurrence should be prevented after curative surgery. The aim of this study was to explore the pattern of recurrence in patients with completely resected pN2 non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the era of adjuvant chemotherapy.
We investigated 337 patients with completely resected cN0-1 and pN2 NSCLC from 2005 to 2016 at National Cancer Center Hospital, Japan. The patterns of recurrence were compared between patients who were managed by observation alone and those with adjuvant chemotherapy. In patients with regional LN recurrence, the pattern and site of recurrence were also explored.
There were 195 (58.5%) men and 142 (41.5%) women with a mean age of 63.2 years. Fifty-five (16.3%) patients developed only regional LN recurrence, 116 (32.6%) patients developed only distant recurrence and 65 (19.3%) patients developed both regional LN recurrence and distant recurrence. The difference in the pattern of recurrence between patients with observation alone and those with adjuvant chemotherapy was not statistically significant (P = 0.145). As for the pattern of regional LN recurrence, 68 (20.2%) patients had LN recurrence inside the systematic nodal dissection area.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) has been recently considered and used for patients with post-acute myocardial infarction mechanical complications (post-AMI **); however, information in this respect is scarce. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in-hospital outcomes of patients with post-AMI ** submitted to VA-ECMO, and enrolled in the Extracorporeal Life Support Organizations (ELSO)'s data Registry.
This was a retrospective review of the ELSO Registry to identify adult (>18 years old) patients with post-AMI ** who underwent VA-ECMO support between 2007 and 2018. The primary end point of this study was in-hospital survival. ECMO complications were also evaluated.
The patient cohort available for this study included 158 patients. The median age was 62.4 years (range 20-80). The most common post-AMI ** was ventricular septal rupture (n = 102; 64.5%), followed by papillary muscle rupture (n = 42; 26.6%) and ventricular free-wall rupture (n = 14; 8.9%). Approximately a quarter of patients (n = 41; 25.9%) had cardiac arrest before VA-ECMO institution. The median duration of VA-ECMO was 5.9 days (range 1 h-40.3 days). ECMO complications occurred in 119 patients (75.3%). Overall, survival to hospital discharge for the entire patient cohort was 37.3%. Patients who had ventricular septal rupture as primary diagnosis had higher in-hospital mortality (n = 66; 64.7%).

We tested the hypothesis that microtiter plate-based methods provide comparable results to those obtained with the radiometric assay that measures the incorporation of 14CO2 into 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA). Three NADH-linked assays were tested that use alternative coupling enzymes glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and glycerolphosphate dehydrogenase (GlyPDH); phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH); and pyruvate kinase (PK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). To date there has been no thorough evaluation of their reliability by comparison with the 14C-based method. The three NADH-linked assays were used in parallel to estimate (i) the 3-PGA concentration-response curve of NADH oxidation, (ii) the Michaelis-Menten constant for ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate, (iii) fully active and inhibited Rubisco activities, and (iv) Rubisco initial and total activities in fully illuminated and shaded leaves. All three methods correlated strongly with the 14C-based method, and the PK-LDH method showed a strong correlation and was the cheapest method. PEPC-MDH would be a suitable option for situations in which ADP/ATP might interfere with the assay. GAPDH-GlyPDH proved more laborious than the other methods. Thus, we recommend the PK-LDH method as a reliable, cheaper, and higher throughput method to phenotype Rubisco activity for crop improvement efforts. The patterns of recurrence were compared between patients who were managed by observation alone and those with adjuvant chemotherapy. In patients with regional LN recurrence, the pattern and site of recurrence were also explored. There were 195 (58.5%) men and 142 (41.5%) women with a mean age of 63.2 years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in-hospital outcomes of patients with post-AMI MC submitted to VA-ECMO, and enrolled in the Extracorporeal Life Support Organizations (ELSO)'s data Registry. This was a retrospective review of the ELSO Registry to identify adult (>18 years old) patients with post-AMI MC who underwent VA-ECMO support between 2007 and 2018. The primary end point of this study was in-hospital survival. ECMO complications were also evaluated. The patient cohort available for this study included 158 patients. The median age was 62.4 years (range 20-80). The most common post-AMI MC was ventricular septal rupture (n = 102; 64.5%), followed by papillary muscle rupture (n = 42; 26.6%) and ventricular free-wall rupture (n = 14; 8.9%). Approximately a quarter of patients (n = 41; 25.9%) had cardiac arrest before VA-ECMO institution. The median duration of VA-ECMO was 5.9 days (range 1 h-40.3 days). For both IRTs and CRTs, we also identify the ratio of the sample size for a stratified trial vs a comparably powered unstratified trial, allowing investigators to evaluate how stratification will affect the required sample size when planning a trial. For CRTs, these can be used when the investigator has estimates of the within-stratum intracluster correlation coefficients (ICCs) or by assuming a common within-stratum ICC. Using these methods, we describe scenarios where stratification may have a practically important impact on the required sample size. Bolus accuracy was determined by individually weighing 25 consecutive 0.1 or 1.0 U boluses and basal rate accuracy was determined during basal rate delivery of 0.1 or 1.0 U/h for 72 hours. For analyses, basal rate delivery was divided into 1-hour windows and deviation from target was calculated. RESULTS Regarding different systems, average 0.1 U bolus delivery was -2% to +9% of the intended volume with 53% to 96% of boluses within ±15% of target. The study aimed to assess nutritional status and its contributing factors among older adults with cancer receiving chemotherapy so, a descriptive study design was used. The study was conducted at Zagazig University Hospitals, Egypt. The study's sample was selected purposively which composed of 194 older adults. Nutritional status was measured by the Arabic version of the Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Contributing factors were identified by examining the relationship of nutritional status with demographic and clinical variables. Study results revealed that 33% of the older patients were malnourished and 51.5% were at risk for malnutrition. Statistically significant relations were found between nutritional status and advanced age, illiteracy, insufficient monthly income, comorbidities, cancer stage four at diagnosis, and receiving ≥4 chemotherapy cycles. High prevalence of malnutrition and many contributing factors were identified among older patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy. So, continuous malnutrition screening along chemotherapy courses with special concern for contributing factors assessed in this study is recommended.
Research with West Australian people with dementia and their carers living in the community identified that they have a diverse range of needs. However, little is known about the needs of people with dementia and their carers from the perspectives of service providers who provide formal support. This study aimed to investigate the needs of people with dementia and their carers living in the community from the perspectives of service providers, and compare this to service recipients.
This interpretive descriptive study used focus groups to collect qualitative data from service providers (
= 10). Data were analysed using a hybrid inductive-deductive approach to compare the needs identified by service providers to those identified by people with dementia and their carers.
Three major themes were identified (i) services and supports required by people with dementia and their carers should be flexible, tailored, and equitable; (ii) building capacity to support carers and people with dementia; and (iii) systems designed to care were fragmented and difficult to navigate. Service providers prioritise needs that are limited to their current capacity to provide in contrast to the holistic needs of people with dementia and their carers.

The purpose of this study was to quantify changes in diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI) parameters before and after IV administration of a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) and explore the influence of those parameters on breast cancer diagnosis. SUBJECTS AND METHODS. A prospective cohort of 26 women with BI-RADS categories 0, 4, 5, or 6 underwent 3-T breast MRI with sequential DTI before GBCA administration and immediately after. Quantitative image analysis using dedicated DTI software yielded parametric DTI maps of each directional diffusion coefficient (DDC), mean diffusivity, and maximal anisotropy of the lesions and normal tissue. The color maps were evaluated and the lesion DTI parameters were compared before and after GBCA administration using appropriate statistical tests. RESULTS. Of the cohort, 58% had cancer (13 infiltrating ductal carcinoma, two ductal carcinoma in situ) and 42% had benign or normal results. All breast cancers were visually detected in the DDC λ1 maps before and after nhanced diffusion measurements should be preferred.OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of radiomics features for differentiating soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) of different histopathologic grades. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The T1-weighted and fat-suppressed T2-weighted MR images of 70 STSs of varying grades (35 low-grade [grades 1 and 2], 35 high-grade [grade 3]) formed the primary dataset used to train multiple machine learning algorithms for the construction of models for assigning STS grade. The models were tested with a separate validation dataset. RESULTS. Different machine learning algorithms had different strengths and weaknesses. The best classification algorithm for the prediction of STS grade had a combination of the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator feature selection method and the random forest classification algorithm (AUC, 0.9216; 95% CI, 0.8437-0.9995) in the validation set. The accuracy of the combined methods applied to the validation set was 91.43%; sensitivity, 88.24%; and specificity, 94.44%. CONCLUSION. Because of tumor heterogeneity, initial biopsy grade may be an underestimate of the final grade identified in extensive histopathologic analysis of surgical specimens. This creates an urgent need to construct an accurate preoperative approach to grading STS. The purpose of this study was to quantify changes in diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI) parameters before and after IV administration of a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) and explore the influence of those parameters on breast cancer diagnosis. SUBJECTS AND METHODS. A prospective cohort of 26 women with BI-RADS categories 0, 4, 5, or 6 underwent 3-T breast MRI with sequential DTI before GBCA administration and immediately after. Quantitative image analysis using dedicated DTI software yielded parametric DTI maps of each directional diffusion coefficient (DDC), mean diffusivity, and maximal anisotropy of the lesions and normal tissue. The color maps were evaluated and the lesion DTI parameters were compared before and after GBCA administration using appropriate statistical tests. RESULTS. Of the cohort, 58% had cancer (13 infiltrating ductal carcinoma, two ductal carcinoma in situ) and 42% had benign or normal results. All breast cancers were visually detected in the DDC λ1 maps before and after nhanced diffusion measurements should be preferred.OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of radiomics features for differentiating soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) of different histopathologic grades. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The T1-weighted and fat-suppressed T2-weighted MR images of 70 STSs of varying grades (35 low-grade [grades 1 and 2], 35 high-grade [grade 3]) formed the primary dataset used to train multiple machine learning algorithms for the construction of models for assigning STS grade. The models were tested with a separate validation dataset. RESULTS. Different machine learning algorithms had different strengths and weaknesses. The best classification algorithm for the prediction of STS grade had a combination of the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator feature selection method and the random forest classification algorithm (AUC, 0.9216; 95% CI, 0.8437-0.9995) in the validation set. The accuracy of the combined methods applied to the validation set was 91.43%; sensitivity, 88.24%; and specificity, 94.44%. CONCLUSION. Because of tumor heterogeneity, initial biopsy grade may be an underestimate of the final grade identified in extensive histopathologic analysis of surgical specimens. This creates an urgent need to construct an accurate preoperative approach to grading STS. Thus, CHD8 is essential for both the maintenance of pluripotency and neural differentiation, providing mechanistic insight into its function with potential implications for ASD.During austral summer field seasons between 1999 and 2018, we sampled at 91 locations throughout southern Victoria Land and along the Transantarctic Mountains for six species of endemic microarthropods (Collembola), covering a latitudinal range from 76.0°S to 87.3°S. We assembled individual mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) sequences (n = 866) and found high levels of sequence divergence at both small (600 km) spatial scales for four of the six Collembola species. We applied molecular clock estimates and assessed genetic divergences relative to the timing of past glacial cycles, including collapses of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). We found that genetically distinct lineages within three species have likely been isolated for at least 5.54 My to 3.52 My, while the other three species diverged more recently ( less then 2 My). We suggest that Collembola had greater dispersal opportunities under past warmer climates, via flotation along coastal margins. Similarly increased opportunities for dispersal may occur under contemporary climate warming scenarios, which could influence the genetic structure of extant populations. As Collembola are a living record of past landscape evolution within Antarctica, these findings provide biological evidence to support geological and glaciological estimates of historical WAIS dynamics over the last ca 5 My.RNA-protein interactions underlie a wide range of cellular processes. Both an MS2-MCP system and an engineered CRISPR-Cas13 system were used to deliver APEX2 to the human telomerase RNA hTR with high specificity. One-minute proximity biotinylation captured candidate binding partners for hTR, including more than a dozen proteins not previously linked to hTR. We validated the interaction between hTR and the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) demethylase ALKBH5 and showed that ALKBH5 is able to erase the m6A modification on endogenous hTR. ALKBH5 also modulates telomerase complex assembly and activity. From this, we developed a parameterization for biomass burning ** and combined it with a ** parameterization previously used for fossil fuel emissions. Applying these parameterizations to global model output, we find that the contribution of ** to potential [INP] relevant to mixed-phase clouds is ∼5% on a global average.

Lignocellulosic materials are promising alternatives to non-renewable fossil sources when producing aromatic compounds. Lignins from Populus salicaceae. Pinus radiata and Pinus pinaster from industrial wastes and biorefinery effluents were isolated and characterized. Lignin was depolymerized using homogenous (NaOH) and heterogeneous (Ni-, Cu- or Ni-Cu-hydrotalcites) base catalysis and catalytic hydrogenolysis using Ru/C. When homogeneous base catalyzed depolymerization (BCD) and Ru/C hydrogenolysis were combined on poplar lignin, the aromatics amount was ca. 11 wt.%. Monomer distributions changed depending on the feedstock and the reaction conditions. Aqueous NaOH produced cleavage of the alkyl side chain that was preserved when using modified hydrotalcite catalysts or Ru/C-catalyzed hydrogenolysis in ethanol. Depolymerization using hydrotalcite catalysts in ethanol produced monomers bearing carbonyl groups on the alkyl side chain. The analysis of the reaction mixtures was done by size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and diffusion ordered nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (DOSY NMR). 31P NMR and heteronuclear single quantum coherence spectroscopy (HSQC) were also used in this study. The content in poly-(hydroxy)-aromatic ethers in the reaction mixtures decreased upon thermal treatments in ethanol. It was concluded that thermo-solvolysis is key in lignin depolymerization, and that the synergistic effect of Ni and Cu provided monomers with oxidized alkyl side chains.Employing a national representative survey (the China Labor-force Dynamics Survey 2016, CLDS2016) data (N = 14246), this paper examines the heterogeneous influences of social support on individual physical and mental health in China. Social support is characterized by four dimensions emotional support, tangible or instrumental support, interaction or exchange support, and community support. Physical health is measured by self-rated health and body mass index (BMI), while mental health is measured by depression, hopelessness, failure, fear, loneliness, and meaninglessness. The results indicate that different dimensions of social support have heterogeneous effects on individual physical and mental health. Specifically, the correlation between emotional support and individual physical health is not significant, but emotional support is significantly related to some mental health variables. Tangible or instrumental support is significantly related to individual self-rated physical health but not to BMI or mental health. Interaction or exchange support is significantly correlated with individual self-rated health and some mental health variables. In general, there are significant correlations between community support, and individual physical and mental health. The results also suggest that the influences of social support on physical and mental health of individuals at different ages ( less then 60 years and ≥60 years) are heterogeneous. The results of this study provide direction for the dimension selection of social support to promote individual health.Thiamine precursors, the most studied being benfotiamine (BFT), have protective effects in mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases. In this work, we present an optical IPS based on a Position-Sensitive Detector (PSD) and exploiting illumination infrastructure to determine the target position by Angle of Arrival (AoA) measurements. We combine the proposed IPS with different positioning strategies depending on the number of visible emitters (one, two, or more) and available prior or additional information about the scenario and target. The accuracy and precision of the proposal is assessed experimentally for the different strategies in a 2.47 m high space covering approximately 2.2 m2, using high-end geodetic equipment to establish the reference ground truth. When the orientation of the target is known from external measurements, an average positioning error of 8.2 mm is obtained using the signal received from only one emitter. Using simultaneous observations from two emitters, an average positioning error of 9.4 mm is obtained without external information when the target movement is restricted to a plane. Conversely, if four signals are available, an average positioning error of 4.9 cm is demonstrated, yielding the complete 3D pose of the target free of any prior assumption or additional measurements. In all cases, a precision (2σ) better than 5.9 mm is achieved across the complete test space for an integration time of 10 ms. The proposed system represents a prospectively useful alternative for indoor positioning applications requiring fast and reliable cm-level accuracy with moderate cost when smart illumination infrastructure is available in the environment.
