Vaccines can have heterologous effects on the immune system, i.e., effects other than triggering an immune response against the disease targeted by the vaccine. We investigated whether monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) specific for tetanus could cross-react with Chlamydia and confer heterologous protection against chlamydial infection. The capability of two tetanus-specific mAbs, namely mAb26 and mAb51, to prevent chlamydial infection has been assessed (i) in vitro, by performing a neutralization assay using human conjunctival epithelial (HCjE) cells infected with Chlamydia trachomatis serovar B, and (ii) in vivo, by using a guinea pig model of Chlamydiacaviae-induced inclusion conjunctivitis. The mAb26 has been superior in comparison with mAb51 in the prevention of chlamydial infection in HCjE cells. The mAb26 has conferred ≈40% inhibition of the infection, compared to less than 5% inhibition in the presence of the mAb51. In vivo, mAb26 significantly diminished ocular pathology intensity in guinea pigs infected with C. caviae compared to either the mAb51-treated or sham-treated guinea pigs. Our data provide insights that tetanus immunization generates antibodies which induce heterologous chlamydial immunity and promote protection beyond the intended target pathogen.Fluorinated polyethylene propylene (FEP) bipolar ferroelectret films with a specifically designed concentric tunnel structure were prepared by means of rigid-template based thermoplastic molding and contact polarization. The properties of the fabricated films, including the piezoelectric response, mechanical property, and thermal stability, were characterized, and two kinds of energy harvesters based on such ferroelectret films, working in 33- and 31-modes respectively, were investigated. The results show that the FEP films exhibit significant longitudinal and radial piezoelectric activities, as well as superior thermal stability. A quasi-static piezoelectric d33 coefficient of up to 5300 pC/N was achieved for the FEP films, and a radial piezoelectric sensitivity of 40,000 pC/N was obtained in a circular film sample with a diameter of 30 mm. Such films were thermally stable at 120 °C after a reduction of 35%. Two types of vibrational energy harvesters working in 33-mode and 31-mode were subsequently designed. The results show that a power output of up to 1 mW was achieved in an energy harvester working in 33-mode at a resonance frequency of 210 Hz, referring to a seismic mass of 33.4 g and an acceleration of 1 g (g is the gravity of the earth). For a device working in 31-mode, a power output of 15 μW was obtained at a relatively low resonance frequency of 26 Hz and a light seismic mass of 1.9 g. Therefore, such concentric tunnel FEP ferroelectric films provide flexible options for designing vibrational energy harvesters working either in 33-mode or 31-mode to adapt to application environments.The COVID-19 pandemic put significant strain on societies and their resources, with the healthcare system and workers being particularly affected. Antiplatelet medications such as aspirin and clopidogrel are used following thrombotic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) to prevent a recurrent stroke. However, the antiplatelet treatments fail frequently, and patients experience recurrent stroke. One approach to lower the rates of recurrence may be the individualized antiplatelet therapies (antiplatelet therapy modification (ATM)) based on the results of platelet function analysis (PFA). This review was undertaken to gather and analyze the evidence about the effectiveness of such approaches.
We searched Medline, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases up to 7 January 2020.
Two observational studies involving 1136 patients were included. The overall effects of PFA-based ATM on recurrent strokes (odds ratio (OR) 1.05; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.69 to 1.58), any bleeding risk (OR 1.39; 95% CI 0.92 to 2.10) or death hazard from any cause (OR 1.19; 95% CI 0.62 to 2.29) were not significantly different from the standard antiplatele to 3.35) were not significantly different between aspirin non-responders with ATM and those without ATM. There is a need for large, randomized controlled trials which account for potential confounders such as ischemic stroke subtypes, technical variations in the testing protocols, patient adherence to therapy and pharmacogenetic differences.This work studied the effect of dairy *** ration supplementation with inorganic plus organic Se on metabolic status, milk yield, and the quality of milk and dairy products, especially its Se content. Twenty multiparous Holstein Friesian lactating cows were assigned to two feeding treatments. The cows were fed with 22.5 kg dry matter (DM) of total mixed ration (11.75 kg DM of forage plus 10.75 kg DM of concentrate) by head. There were two different concentrates with the same Se content (0.240 mg/kg of ration DM) but with different Se sources The control (CON) was supplemented with inorganic Se (sodium selenite); and the other (IOSe) was supplemented with sodium selenite plus organic Se (Sel-Plex®), at 0.144 and 0.096 mg Se/kg of ration DM, respectively. The results indicated that, in general, the IOSe treatment did not modify the metabolic profile, and even decreased the total oxidant status (p less then 0.05) and did not lead to a deterioration of quality and yield of milk. However, milk and cheese from IOSe had higher Se content (an increase of 29.7% and 38.2%, respectively) than CON (p less then 0.01), but this effect was not observed in yogurt. In general, physical or sensorial parameters of cheeses did not show differences between treatments. Moderate inorganic plus organic Se supplementation may be more effective than inorganic Se, increasing the Se content in milk and cheese, without causing a deterioration in quality or productive parameters.

Adenoid cystic is a rare histological subtype of basal cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the most common form of skin cancer is a slow-spreading tumor with local malignancy, with a high cure rate and favorable prognosis when is diagnosed in the early stages. Rhinophyma is one of the four subtypes of rosacea and it is histopathologically characterized by sebaceous glands hypertrophy. Disseminated annular granuloma (GAD) is a rare inflammatory dermatosis with uncertain etiopathogenesis, clinically represented by papules with annular or arciform aspect. UV radiations aggravates rosacea and are involved in the etiopathogenesis of ****and can have a triggering or an aggravating effect on GAD. The association of adenoid cystic ****with rhinophyma it is rare and more than that, the presence of both in association with GAD is not described in medical literature. We present the case of a 78-year old male patient, with personal history of prolonged exposure to UV radiations, that was admitted to the Dermatology for 4 nodular tumors, located on the face. The skin of the nose and menton with thickened, hypertrophied, irregular, red appearance and dilated pores. Also, on the upper limbs and trunk, the patient had, erythematous papules with arciform and ring shape with hypopigmented centers. We performed surgical excision of the tumors and biopsied an annular lesion. Microscopic examination showed nodular basal cell carcinoma with areas of adenoid cystic carcinoma and actinic degeneration of collagen and gigantocellular granulomatous inflammation. The skin biopsied from the upper limb showed annular granuloma appearance.Numerous plants are traditionally grown in kitchen gardens and consumed by the general population. Incidents of accidental ingestion of harmful plants due to their striking resemblance with the edible ones are well-known. Cases A family of three (a mother and her two children) unintentionally consumed leaves of small plants of Datura stramonium, instead of Solanum nigrum. They were admitted in intensive care unit with anticholinergic symptoms, treated symptomatically and discharged. On probing further, it is understood that both the plants look similar when young. However, it is easy to distinguish between them when the plants are fully grown. Conclusion It is essential to educate the public regarding proper identification of locally available leafy vegetables that are fit for consumption. Also, clinicians should have a high index of suspicion in such cases of family poisoning even in the absence of a reliable history.Currently, data that supports the clinical benefit of agents targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in the therapy of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) histologic version of the lung cancer (LC) is insufficient. In the following report we present the case of a patient treated with erlotinib for SCC NSCLC. At the time of initiation, there were no available guidelines recommendations regarding the EGFR status in for initiation of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) therapy for NSCLC, thus the sample was never tested for the EGFR mutational status. Not widely used in the treatment of SCC, EGFR-TKIs remain a valid therapeutic option in selected groups of patients.The nasal turbinates adhere to the lateral nasal wall and are subjected to various morphological variations. A common variation is concha bullosa, the pneumatization of a nasal turbinate. Another possible variation is the secondary middle turbinate (SMT) which originates from the lateral wall of the middle nasal meatus. Pneumatized SMTs were previously found only twice in Computed Tomography (CT) studies. It is hereby reported the third such evidence, gathered in a 44 y.o. male patient which was scanned in Cone Beam CT (CBCT) for routine dental medical procedures. Such extremely rare anatomic variations could impede on the normal drainage of the ostiomeatal unit and could lead to inadvertent surgical corridors if they are not documented in CT or CBCT.Worldwide, one of the leading causes of death for patients with cardiovascular disease is aortic valve failure or insufficiency as a result of calcification and cardiovascular disease. The surgical treatment consists of repair or total replacement of the aortic valve. Artificial aortic valve implantation via a percutaneous or endovascular procedure is the minimally invasive alternative to open chest surgery, and the only option for high-risk or older patients. Due to the complex anatomical location between the left ventricle and the aorta, there are still engineering design optimization challenges which influence the long-term durability of the valve. In this study we developed a computer model and performed a numerical analysis of an original self-expanding stent for transcatheter aortic valve in order to optimize its design and materials. The study demonstrates the current valve design could be a good alternative to the existing commercially available valve devices.Acute coronary events (ACE) are one of the main concerns for both clinical medicine and prophylaxis. The study aims to follow the frequency of the pathology associated with ACE and to establish its association with the occurrence of ACE. The study included 865 adult participants between the ages of 19-86. Subjects completed a complex questionnaire that included questions about health status. The study was conducted by applying the subjects to an anonymous questionnaire, in three family medicine practices between November 2018 to May 2019 and targeted healthy people. The frequencies of the following types of associated pathologies were evaluated high blood pressure (HBP), hypercholesterolemia, stroke, diabetes, depression, stress. In hypertensive patients the prevalence of ACE was 6,99% (N=11) and in those not diagnosed with HBP of only 0,29% (N=2). The risk of ACE was 20 times higher than in those without HBP (RR=20,93; p less then 0.001). The prevalence of ACE was high among subjects with high cholesterol levels (21,43%) compared with those with normal values (3,03%; N=22), the risk of ACE being 7 times higher (RR=7,06; p less then 0.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is sometimes considered as an alternative therapeutic strategy to surgical revascularization in patients with coronary artery disease (***) and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). However, the types or conditions of patients that receive the clinical benefit of left ventricular reverse remodelling (LVRR) remain unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of LVRR following PCI in *** patients with reduced LVEF. From 4394 consecutive patients who underwent PCI, a total of 286 patients with reduced LV systolic function (LVEF less then 50% at initial left ventriculography) were included in the analysis. To examine a putative causal effect of vitamin D across phenotypic domains and disease categories, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses using genetic instruments associated with circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations. We leveraged genome-wide significant 25(OH)D-associated SNPs (N = 138) from a meta-analysis combining a vitamin D GWAS conducted in 401,460 white British UK Biobank (UKBB) participants and an independent vitamin D GWAS including 42,274 samples of European ancestry, and examined 190 large-scale health-related GWAS spanning a broad spectrum of complex traits, diseases and biomarkers. We applied multiple MR methods to estimate the causal effect of vitamin D while testing and controlling for potential biases from horizontal pleiotropy. Consistent with previous findings, genetically predicted increased 25(OH)D levels significantly decreased the risk of multiple sclerosis (OR = 0.824; 95% CI 0.689-0.986). The protective effect estimate was consistent across different MR methods and four different multiple sclerosis GWAS with varying sample sizes and genotyping platforms. On the contrary, we found limited evidence in support of a causal effect of 25(OH)D on anthropometric traits, obesity, cognitive function, sleep behavior, breast and prostate cancer, and autoimmune, cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological and psychiatric traits and diseases, and blood biomarkers. We documented ZNF154 hypermethylation in early stage tumors, which did not increase in most noncancer disease or with respect to age or sex in peripheral blood cells, suggesting it is a promising target in liquid biopsy. Herein, the clinical results of balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) for acute osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) treatment were assessed and compared between sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia patients. Sixty patients who underwent BKP for treatment of acute OVF with poor prognostic factors between April 2016 and September 2017 and were assessed for sarcopenia were enrolled. Clinical results (**** pain on visual analogue scale [VAS]; short-form [SF] 36; vertebral deformity; activities of daily living levels; and incidence of adjacent vertebral fractures) were compared between the two groups at 6 months post-BKP. Data analysis revealed that **** pain on VAS, SF-36 scores, and vertebral deformity improved from baseline to 6 months after BKP. Thirty-nine patients (65.0%) were diagnosed with sarcopenia and demonstrated a lower body mass index (21.2 vs. 23.3 kg/m2, p = 0.02), skeletal muscle mass index (5.32 vs. 6.55 kg/m2, p less then 0.01), hand-grip strength (14.7 vs. 19.2 kg, p = 0.01), and bone mineral density of the femoral neck (0.57 vs. 0.76 g/cm2, p less then 0.01) than those of patients without sarcopenia. However, no significant differences were observed in the clinical results between these groups. VNT prevalence was 28.5%. In comparison, patients with VNT included higher LSM, INR, and SD and lower PLT. Gastroscopies were spared for 27.7% of patients using the ****with 1.0% VNT missed rate, 47.2% of patients using the EB6C with 5.9% VNT missed rate, 57.6% of patients using the LSPS with 9.9% VNT missed rate, and 45.5% of patients using the VariScreen algorithm with 3.0% VNT missed rate. Only the ****and the VariScreen algorithm could safely avoid gastroscopies, and the VariScreen algorithm spared more gastroscopies than the B6C.
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is sometimes considered as an alternative therapeutic strategy to surgical revascularization in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). However, the types or conditions of patients that receive the clinical benefit of left ventricular reverse remodelling (LVRR) remain unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of LVRR following PCI in CAD patients with reduced LVEF. From 4394 consecutive patients who underwent PCI, a total of 286 patients with reduced LV systolic function (LVEF less then 50% at initial left ventriculography) were included in the analysis. To examine a putative causal effect of vitamin D across phenotypic domains and disease categories, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses using genetic instruments associated with circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations. We leveraged genome-wide significant 25(OH)D-associated SNPs (N = 138) from a meta-analysis combining a vitamin D GWAS conducted in 401,460 white British UK Biobank (UKBB) participants and an independent vitamin D GWAS including 42,274 samples of European ancestry, and examined 190 large-scale health-related GWAS spanning a broad spectrum of complex traits, diseases and biomarkers. We applied multiple MR methods to estimate the causal effect of vitamin D while testing and controlling for potential biases from horizontal pleiotropy. Consistent with previous findings, genetically predicted increased 25(OH)D levels significantly decreased the risk of multiple sclerosis (OR = 0.824; 95% CI 0.689-0.986). The protective effect estimate was consistent across different MR methods and four different multiple sclerosis GWAS with varying sample sizes and genotyping platforms. On the contrary, we found limited evidence in support of a causal effect of 25(OH)D on anthropometric traits, obesity, cognitive function, sleep behavior, breast and prostate cancer, and autoimmune, cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological and psychiatric traits and diseases, and blood biomarkers. Peers fulfil the role of amplifying the status of diverse forms of knowledge, values and related ways of working that have become marginalized in NHS mental health services. It is important that peers are not seen as an isolated solution to the marginalization of these forms of knowledge and values, but that their way of working becomes reflected in other roles whilst evoking change throughout these services.

The extent to which other factors might play a role driving these changes is still unclear. Land-cover change is a major cause of distributional changes, but it cannot be discarded that distributional dynamics might be at times caused by other mechanisms (e.g. dispersal, ecological drift). Using observed changes in the distribution of 82 breeding birds in Great Britain between three time periods 1968-72 (t1 ), 1988-91 (t2 ) and 2007-2011 (t3 ), we examine whether observed bird range shifts between t1 -t2 and t1 -t3 are best explained by climate change or land-cover change, or whether they are not distinguishable from what would be expected by chance. We found that range shifts across the rear edge of northerly distributed species in Great Britain are best explained by climate change, while shifts across the leading edge of southerly distributed species are best explained by changes in land-cover. In contrast, at the northern and southern edges of Great Britain, range dynamics could not be distinguished from that expected by chance. The latter observation could be a consequence of boundary effects limiting the direction and magnitude of range changes, stochastic demographic mechanisms neither associated with climate nor land-cover change or with complex interactions among factors. Our results reinforce the view that comprehensive assessments of climate change effects on species range shifts need to examine alternative drivers of change on equal footing and that null models can help assess whether observed patterns could have arisen by chance alone.To characterize the physicomechanical properties of an alumina-toughened zirconia (ATZ). Of the 31 patients, 15 (48.4%) were women and 16 (51.6%) were men, in 61.3% of cases, biopsies were taken from hands (61.1% of "eczema in psoriatico", 61.5% of psoriasis) and 38.7% from feet (38.9% of "eczema in psoriatico", 38.5% of psoriasis). There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in terms of parakeratosis severity and distribution, the presence of neutrophil and plasma in stratum corneum, the presence of granular layer loss and suprapapillar plate thinning, the shape of retes, the presence of lymphocytic exocytosis, spongiosis and spongiotic vesicles, the intensity of infiltrates in the papillar dermis and the presence of dermal edema (P less then .05). 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (20-HETE) is a metabolite of arachidonic acid catalysed by cytochrome P450 enzymes and plays an important role in cell death and proliferation. We hypothesized that 20-HETE synthesis inhibition may have protective effects in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and investigated possible underlying molecular mechanisms.
Neurologic deficits, and lesion volume, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and cell death as assessed using immunofluorescence staining, transmission electron microscopy and Western blotting were used to determine post-TBI effects of HET0016, an inhibitor of 20-HETE synthesis, and their underlying mechanisms.
The level of 20-HETE was found to be increased significantly after TBI in ****. 20-HETE synthesis inhibition reduced neuronal apoptosis, ROS production and damage to mitochondrial structures after TBI. Mechanistically, HET0016 decreased the Drp1 level and increased the expression of Mfn1 and Mfn2 after TBI, indicating a reversal of the abnormal post-TBI mitochondrial dynamics.

Fanconi-Bickel syndrome (FBS) is a rare condition of carbohydrate metabolism, caused by a recessive defect in the facilitative glucose transporter GLUT2 encoded by the SLC2A2 gene and characterized by a wide spectrum of phenotypical features. There is a paucity of reported data on FBS from Sub-Saharan Africa. Here, we describe the clinical, biochemical and genetic characteristics of our patients with FBS from Sudan, a country with a high consanguinity rate.
Eleven patients from ten unrelated Sudanese families were included. Clinical & biochemical data were documented and imaging studies done including bone survey and abdominal ultrasound. Liver biopsy was done to confirm the pathological diagnosis in 45% of cases and molecular genetics was performed through contribution with the Exeter genomics laboratory for ten patients.
Reported consanguinity was 70% among our patients. Growth was significantly impaired at presentation with mean weights of (-5.3 ± 1.8) SD and heights (-5.4 ± 2.5) SD. Severe chest deformity was present in (27%) and all patients showed features of rickets at presentation. Three patients had neonatal diabetes requiring insulin therapy of which one has been reported before. Six families lost undiagnosed siblings with similar clinical presentations. We identified a total of four homozygous pathogenic SLC2A2 variants in our patients, one of whom had a novel mutation.

Accumulated evidence showed that the banning of colistin additive in livestock feed efficiently reduce mcr-1 prevalence, not only in animals but also in humans and environments. However, our previous study has revealed that a small proportion of Escherichia coli could continually carry chromosomally-encoded mcr-1. The chromosomally-encoded events, indicated the existence of stabilized heritage of mcr-1 and revealed a potential threat in the antimicrobial stewardship interventions, are yet to be investigated. In this study, we systematically investigated the genetic basis of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1 in prevalence and potential mechanisms of lineage, plasmid, insertion sequence, and phage. Our results demonstrated that the emergence of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1 could originate from multiple mechanisms, but mainly derived through the recombination of ISApl1/Tn6330. We reported a specific transmission mechanism, which is a phage-like region without lysogenic components, could associate with the emergence and stabilization of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1. These results highlighted the potential origin and risks of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1, which could be a heritable repository and thrive again when confronted with new selective pressures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically reveal the genomic basis of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1, and report a specific transmission pattern involved in phage-like region. Overall, we demonstrate the origin mechanisms and risks of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1. Critically ill patients receiving invasive ventilation are at risk of sputum retention. Mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) is a technique used to mobilise sputum and optimise airway clearance. Recently, interest has increased in the use of mechanical insufflation-exsufflation for invasively ventilated critically ill adults, but evidence for the feasibility, safety and efficacy of this treatment is sparse. The aim of this scoping review is to map current and emerging evidence on the feasibility, safety and efficacy of MI-E for invasively ventilated adult patients with the aim of highlighting knowledge gaps and identifying areas for future research. Specific research questions aim to identify information informing indications and contraindications to the use of MI-E in the invasively ventilated adult, MI-E settings used, outcome measures reported within studies, adverse effects reported and perceived barriers and facilitators to using MI-E reported.

This study briefly reviews the above information and explores the potential value of lysosomes in cancer therapy. Fanconi-Bickel syndrome (FBS) is a rare condition of carbohydrate metabolism, caused by a recessive defect in the facilitative glucose transporter GLUT2 encoded by the SLC2A2 gene and characterized by a wide spectrum of phenotypical features. There is a paucity of reported data on FBS from Sub-Saharan Africa. Here, we describe the clinical, biochemical and genetic characteristics of our patients with FBS from Sudan, a country with a high consanguinity rate. Eleven patients from ten unrelated Sudanese families were included. Clinical & biochemical data were documented and imaging studies done including bone survey and abdominal ultrasound. Liver biopsy was done to confirm the pathological diagnosis in 45% of cases and molecular genetics was performed through contribution with the Exeter genomics laboratory for ten patients. Reported consanguinity was 70% among our patients. Growth was significantly impaired at presentation with mean weights of (-5.3 ± 1.8) SD and heights (-5.4 ± 2.5) SD. Severe chest deformity was present in (27%) and all patients showed features of rickets at presentation. Three patients had neonatal diabetes requiring insulin therapy of which one has been reported before. Six families lost undiagnosed siblings with similar clinical presentations. We identified a total of four homozygous pathogenic SLC2A2 variants in our patients, one of whom had a novel mutation. FBS is not uncommon in Sudan where there is a high rate of consanguinity. Accumulated evidence showed that the banning of colistin additive in livestock feed efficiently reduce mcr-1 prevalence, not only in animals but also in humans and environments. However, our previous study has revealed that a small proportion of Escherichia coli could continually carry chromosomally-encoded mcr-1. The chromosomally-encoded events, indicated the existence of stabilized heritage of mcr-1 and revealed a potential threat in the antimicrobial stewardship interventions, are yet to be investigated. In this study, we systematically investigated the genetic basis of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1 in prevalence and potential mechanisms of lineage, plasmid, insertion sequence, and phage. Our results demonstrated that the emergence of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1 could originate from multiple mechanisms, but mainly derived through the recombination of ISApl1/Tn6330. We reported a specific transmission mechanism, which is a phage-like region without lysogenic components, could associate with the emergence and stabilization of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1. These results highlighted the potential origin and risks of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1, which could be a heritable repository and thrive again when confronted with new selective pressures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically reveal the genomic basis of chromosomally-encoded mcr-1, and report a specific transmission pattern involved in phage-like region. Software ArcGIS 10.2 was used for spatial analysis, and software SaTScan 9.4 was used for spatial clustering analysis on liver cancer mortality. Results From 2011 to 2013, the crude mortality rate of liver cancer (29.89/100 000) in Shandong increased by 208.00% and 35.37% respectively compared with that during 1970-1974 (9.72/100 000) and 1990-1992 (22.08/100 000) and was similar to that during cancer were found, and they were mainly distributed in Jiaodong peninsula from 2011 to 2013, covering 20 counties (cities, districts) in Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai. The risk of liver cancer mortality in this area was 1.54 times higher than that in other areas. The spatial clustering distribution of liver cancer mortality during 1970-1974 was significantly different from that during 2011-2013, the areas with high mortality rate during 1970-1974 were mainly distributed in central and western Shandong. Conclusions There were significant temporal and spatial distribution changes in the mortality rate of liver cancer in Shandong from 1970 to 2013. Nephroblastoma is an embryonal tumour that has rarely been reported in laboratory rats. In this case report, a large nephroblastoma with peritoneal seeding was found during necropsy in an 11-month-old, female, Sprague Dawley rat. The rat had a history of indirect exposure to nano-TiO2 (titanium dioxide nanoparticles) during maternal gestation. A firm mass in the upper right abdominal quadrant was palpated. Four weeks later, the animal quickly declined. Nephroblastoma was confirmed by histopathology. Only one rat developed nephroblastoma among the ten littermates. Nephroblastomas in Sprague Dawley rats are typically spontaneous tumours with non-malignant mesenchymal elements. The capability to induce a nephroblastoma with nano-TiO2 is less likely in this case.The concept of adding inorganic fillers into hydrogels to form hydrogel nanocomposites often provides advantageous properties which can be exploited for successful 3D biofabrication. In this study, a new composite hydrogel combining oxidized alginate-gelatin (ADA-GEL) hydrogel and laponite (registered trademark of BYK Additives Ltd, UK) nanoclay as inorganic nanofiller was successfully developed and characterized. The results showed that the addition of 0.5% (wt/vol) laponite nanoplatelets improved the printability of ADA-GEL hydrogels enabling the fabrication of detailed structures since a low effect of material spreading and reduced tendency to pore closure appeared. Furthermore, a comparison of different needle types (cylindrical and conical; same inner diameter of 250 μm) in filament fusion test showed that the pattern dispensed by cylindrical tip has enhanced printing accuracy and pattern fidelity when compared with the pattern from conical tip. A glass flip test determined a processing window of 1-2 h after composite ink preparation. Overall, laponite/ADA-GEL hydrogel composites are confirmed as promising inks for 3D bioprinting.
The objective of this systematic review was to examine the treatment effects of exercise on children and adolescents with depression compared to either other nonexercise treatments or no treatment. A study protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42018101982).
Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), PsycINFO (Ovid), AMED (Ovid), SPORTDiscus, PEDro, CINAHL (EBSCO), ERIC (EBSCO), Web of Science, and databases for grey literature and dissertations were searched from their inception through 30 August 2020 for randomized controlled trials. Varieties of search terms for depression, children and adolescents, exercise, and study design were applied. No limits were placed on publication year, language or publication type. Registers for ongoing trials were also searched. Two authors independently screened references, extracted data and assessed risk of bias in the included trials. The effect sizes for depression postintervention were pooled in a meta-analysis, and thecise interventions may be associated with a decrease in adolescent depression severity. However, our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and the true effect may be substantially different. Thus, large, high-quality trials including follow-up periods are needed.

In northern Tanzania, Q fever is a known cause of human febrile illness, but little is known about its distribution in animal hosts. We used a quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) targeting the insertion element IS1111 to determine the presence and prevalence of C. burnetii infections in small mammals trapped in 12 villages around Moshi Rural and Moshi Urban Districts, northern Tanzania. A total of 382 trapped small mammals of seven species were included in the study; Rattus rattus (n = 317), Mus musculus (n = 44), Mastomys natalensis (n = 8), Acomys wilson (n = 6), Mus minutoides (n = 3), Paraxerus flavovottis (n = 3) and Atelerix albiventris (n = 1). Overall, 12 (3.1%) of 382 (95% CI 1.6-5.4) small mammal spleens were positive for C. burnetii DNA. Coxiella burnetii DNA was detected in five of seven of the small mammal species trapped; R. rattus (n = 7), M. musculus (n = 1), A. wilson (n = 2), P. flavovottis (n = 1) and A. albiventris (n = 1). Eleven (91.7%) of twelve (95% CI 61.5-99.8) C. burnetii DNA positive small mammals were trapped within Moshi Urban District. These findings demonstrate that small mammals in Moshi, northern Tanzania are hosts of C. burnetii and may act as a source of C. burnetii infection to humans and other animals. This detection of C. burnetii infections in small mammals should motivate further studies into the contribution of small mammals to the transmission of C. burnetii to humans and animals in this region.
Our previous study has developed a four-gene model involving IL13 rs20541, IL4 rs2243250, ADRB2 rs1042713, and FCER1B rs569108 associated with asthma and atopy in Chinese Han children. However, whether the gene model is associated with allergies in early life has yet to be determined. Between the two groups, a significant difference was only found in delivery mode among all the subject characteristics (p = .025). After stratification for delivery mode, children at high risk were more likely to develop eczema (relative risk [RR] = 1.46, p = .040) over 2 years of follow-up compared with those at low risk. No significant associations were found between genetic risk and food allergy, wheezing and allergic rhinitis (p > .05).

Nephroblastoma is an embryonal tumour that has rarely been reported in laboratory rats. In this case report, a large nephroblastoma with peritoneal seeding was found during necropsy in an 11-month-old, female, Sprague Dawley rat. The rat had a history of indirect exposure to nano-TiO2 (titanium dioxide nanoparticles) during maternal gestation. A firm mass in the upper right abdominal quadrant was palpated. Four weeks later, the animal quickly declined. Nephroblastoma was confirmed by histopathology. Only one rat developed nephroblastoma among the ten littermates. Nephroblastomas in Sprague Dawley rats are typically spontaneous tumours with non-malignant mesenchymal elements. The capability to induce a nephroblastoma with nano-TiO2 is less likely in this case.The concept of adding inorganic fillers into hydrogels to form hydrogel nanocomposites often provides advantageous properties which can be exploited for successful 3D biofabrication. In this study, a new composite hydrogel combining oxidized alginate-gelatin (ADA-GEL) hydrogel and laponite (registered trademark of BYK Additives Ltd, UK) nanoclay as inorganic nanofiller was successfully developed and characterized. In northern Tanzania, Q fever is a known cause of human febrile illness, but little is known about its distribution in animal hosts. We used a quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) targeting the insertion element IS1111 to determine the presence and prevalence of C. burnetii infections in small mammals trapped in 12 villages around Moshi Rural and Moshi Urban Districts, northern Tanzania. A total of 382 trapped small mammals of seven species were included in the study; Rattus rattus (n = 317), Mus musculus (n = 44), Mastomys natalensis (n = 8), Acomys wilson (n = 6), Mus minutoides (n = 3), Paraxerus flavovottis (n = 3) and Atelerix albiventris (n = 1). Overall, 12 (3.1%) of 382 (95% CI 1.6-5.4) small mammal spleens were positive for C. burnetii DNA. Coxiella burnetii DNA was detected in five of seven of the small mammal species trapped; R. rattus (n = 7), M. musculus (n = 1), A. wilson (n = 2), P. flavovottis (n = 1) and A. albiventris (n = 1). Eleven (91.7%) of twelve (95% CI 61.5-99.8) C. burnetii DNA positive small mammals were trapped within Moshi Urban District. These findings demonstrate that small mammals in Moshi, northern Tanzania are hosts of C. burnetii and may act as a source of C. burnetii infection to humans and other animals. This detection of C. burnetii infections in small mammals should motivate further studies into the contribution of small mammals to the transmission of C. burnetii to humans and animals in this region. Three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography (3D-CTBA) is a powerful tool to analyze pulmonary anatomy. We used 3D-CTBA to analyze variations of the pulmonary veins of the left upper division (LUD) and created a simplified LUD vein model.
Between January 2019 and October 2019, 124 patients with left-sided pulmonary lesions were admitted and underwent 3D-CTBA prior to surgery. We reviewed the anatomical variations of the LUD veins in these patients using 3D-CTBA images and classified them according to their position in relation to the bronchus. To facilitate this process, the same nomenclature as that used to describe the veins of the right upper lobe (RUL) is used for the LUD.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a highly heterogeneous neoplasm where the identification of heterogeneity is a critical clinical need to improve treatment planning and prognosis prediction. Utilizing the Hyperion imaging system to carry out high-dimensional proteomics analysis on the heterogeneity of tumor samples, this study aims to detect and analyze the heterogeneity of OSCC without lymph node metastasis and explore potential contributing factors for poor prognosis of early-stage OSCC.
We collected tumor tissue samples from four OSCC patients at the T1N0M0 stage, who presented with similar clinical manifestations. Patient formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections were prepared and stained using a panel of 26 immune or tumor-related antibodies. Different metal tags were assigned to each antibody. The stained cells were then detected and analyzed by the Hyperion imaging system.

The current study aimed to investigate the role of AF cell derived exosome (AF-exo) in the interaction with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and its potential role in the regulation of vascularization in IDD.
Human AF tissues were obtained from patients with IDD and idiopathic scoliosis. The AF-exo were isolated and identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanoparticle trafficking analysis (NTA) and Western blotting. Then, the AF-exo were used for HUVECs cultures. The migration of HUVECs was observed in 2D and 3D cultures. The inflammatory phenotype of HUVECs was examined by Real-time PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Additionally, apoptosis of HUVECs were analyzed by flow cytometry.
Here, we for the first time found that AF cells could secrete AF-exo and that the AF-exo could be phagocytosed by HUVECs. Additionally, we found that degenerated AF-exo exerted pro-vascularization effect on HUVECs by promoting cell migration (in 2D and 3D cultures) and inflammatory factor expression including IL-6, TNF-α, MMP-3, MMP-13 and VEGF, whereas the application of non-degenerated AF-exo demonstrated inverse effects.

The present study was designed to check the effect of daidzein in the management of diabetic retinopathy.
Streptozotocin at dose 55mg/kg was used for inducing diabetes in rats. After 28days of diabetic induction, animals were treated with daidzein at dose 25, 50, and 100mg/kg for the next 28days. Electroretinography, estimation of plasma glucose, lactate dehydrogenase, aldose reductase, sorbitol dehydrogenase and oxidative stress parameters were performed at the end of the study. Histopathology of retina was carried out at the end of the study.
Diabetic control animals showed a significant increase in levels of plasma glucose and plasma lactate dehydrogenase (p<0.001). Treatment with daidzein at a dose of 50 and 100mg/kg significantly reduced the elevated level of blood glucose (p<0.01 and p<0.01). Whereas, treatment with daidzein at a dose 100mg/kg significantly reduced the elevated level of lactate dehydrogenase in plasma after 28days of treatment (p<0.01). Treatment with daidzein at a dose of 100mg/kg significantly reduced the level of aldose reductase and sorbitol dehydrogenase (p<0.01 and p<0.001 respectively). Electroretinography revealed that daidzein treatment at a dose of 100mg/kg significantly prevented the change in 'a' and 'b' wave amplitude and latency. Oxidative stress was also found to be significantly reduced after 28days of daidzein treatment. Histopathological findings showed a reduction in retinal thickness after daidzein treatment.

We used data from the 2005-2015 Florida Vital Statistics Birth Records. A well-validated geoscience-derived model was used to estimate women's pregnancy exposures to PM
and its compositions. Distributed lag models were used to examine the associations and to identify the critical windows of exposure.
A total of 2,078,669 women were included. In single-pollutant models, after controlling for potential confounders, positive associations between PM
and GDM were observed during the second trimester of pregnancy. We found positive associations between SO

, OM and **, with largest effect sizes observed in the 21-24 weeks of pregnancy. Negative associations were observed for DUST and SS. Consistent results for NH

Human AF tissues were obtained from patients with IDD and idiopathic scoliosis. The AF-exo were isolated and identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanoparticle trafficking analysis (NTA) and Western blotting. Then, the AF-exo were used for HUVECs cultures. The migration of HUVECs was observed in 2D and 3D cultures. The inflammatory phenotype of HUVECs was examined by Real-time PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Additionally, apoptosis of HUVECs were analyzed by flow cytometry. Here, we for the first time found that AF cells could secrete AF-exo and that the AF-exo could be phagocytosed by HUVECs. Additionally, we found that degenerated AF-exo exerted pro-vascularization effect on HUVECs by promoting cell migration (in 2D and 3D cultures) and inflammatory factor expression including IL-6, TNF-α, MMP-3, MMP-13 and VEGF, whereas the application of non-degenerated AF-exo demonstrated inverse effects. These results showed that AF-exo is an essential regulator mediating intercellular communication between AF cells and HUVECs, suggesting its important role in vascularization in the intervertebral disc. The present study was designed to check the effect of daidzein in the management of diabetic retinopathy. Streptozotocin at dose 55mg/kg was used for inducing diabetes in rats. After 28days of diabetic induction, animals were treated with daidzein at dose 25, 50, and 100mg/kg for the next 28days. Electroretinography, estimation of plasma glucose, lactate dehydrogenase, aldose reductase, sorbitol dehydrogenase and oxidative stress parameters were performed at the end of the study. Histopathology of retina was carried out at the end of the study. Diabetic control animals showed a significant increase in levels of plasma glucose and plasma lactate dehydrogenase (p<0.001). Treatment with daidzein at a dose of 50 and 100mg/kg significantly reduced the elevated level of blood glucose (p<0.01 and p<0.01). Whereas, treatment with daidzein at a dose 100mg/kg significantly reduced the elevated level of lactate dehydrogenase in plasma after 28days of treatment (p<0.01). Treatment with daidzein at a dose of 100mg/kg significantly reduced the level of aldose reductase and sorbitol dehydrogenase (p<0.01 and p<0.001 respectively). Electroretinography revealed that daidzein treatment at a dose of 100mg/kg significantly prevented the change in 'a' and 'b' wave amplitude and latency. Oxidative stress was also found to be significantly reduced after 28days of daidzein treatment. Histopathological findings showed a reduction in retinal thickness after daidzein treatment. Fine particulate matter (PM ) is a complex mixture of fine particulates with large spatiotemporal heterogeneities in chemical compositions. While PM has been associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), little is known about the relationship between specific chemical components of PM and GDM. We examined the associations between GDM and pregnancy exposures to PM and its compositions, including sulfate (SO ), ammonium (NH ), nitrate (NO ), organic matter (OM), black carbon (BC), mineral dust (DUST), and sea-salt (SS), and to identify critical windows of exposure. We used data from the 2005-2015 Florida Vital Statistics Birth Records. A well-validated geoscience-derived model was used to estimate women's pregnancy exposures to PM and its compositions. Distributed lag models were used to examine the associations and to identify the critical windows of exposure. A total of 2,078,669 women were included. In single-pollutant models, after controlling for potential confounders, positive associations between PM and GDM were observed during the second trimester of pregnancy. We found positive associations between SO , NH , NO , OM and BC, with largest effect sizes observed in the 21-24 weeks of pregnancy. Negative associations were observed for DUST and SS. Consistent results for NH , OM, DUST and SS were observed in the multi-pollutant models. Exposures to PM and its compositions (mainly NH , OM) during the second trimester are positively associated with GDM, especially for exposures during the 21-24 weeks of pregnancy. Twenty patients with type 1 diabetes participated in qualitative individual think aloud interviews in Stockholm, Sweden. Participants were asked to describe their thoughts when responding to three assessments. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis.
The analysis showed that participants conducted the assessments by contextualizing and interpreting instructions, relating the questions to their own health, using different recall periods and time perspectives, and using personal, interpersonal, or normative g the quantitative results and contribute to the literature pertaining to possible explanations for differences in health state values depending on the valuation method.
This study provides insights as to how responses to the EQ-5D-5L, EQ VAS, and TTO assessments are complementary and where these assessments differ in adults with a chronic condition. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed sustained demand on health systems globally, and the capacity to provide critical care has been overwhelmed in some jurisdictions. It is unknown which triage criteria for allocation of resources perform best to inform health system decision-making. We sought to summarize and describe existing triage tools and ethical frameworks to aid healthcare decision-making during infectious disease outbreaks.
We conducted a rapid review of triage criteria and ethical frameworks for the allocation of critical care resources during epidemics and pandemics. We searched Medline, EMBASE, and SCOPUS from inception to November 3, 2020. Full-text screening and data abstraction were conducted independently and in duplicate by three reviewers. Articles were included if they were primary research, an adult critical care setting, and the framework described was related to an infectious disease outbreak. We summarized each triage tool and ethical guidelines or framework including their elements anll progress and any future pandemics, jurisdictions should prepare by selecting and adapting a triage tool that works best for their circumstances.
This review summarizes available triage protocols and ethical guidelines to provide decision-makers with data to help select and tailor triage tools. Earlier breeding is one of the strongest responses to global change in birds and is a key factor determining reproductive success. In most studies of climate effects, the focus has been on large-scale environmental indices or temperature averaged over large geographical areas, neglecting that animals are affected by the local conditions in their home ranges. In riverine ecosystems, climate change is altering the flow regime, in addition to changes resulting from the increasing demand for renewable and clean hydropower. Together with increasing temperatures, this can lead to shifts in the time window available for successful breeding of birds associated with the riverine habitat. Here, we investigated specifically how the environmental conditions at the territory level influence timing of breeding in a passerine bird with an aquatic lifestyle, the white-throated dipper Cinclus cinclus. We relate daily river discharge and other important hydrological parameters, to a long-term dataset of breeding phenology (1te change. Measuring environmental variation at the scale of the territory thus provides detailed information about the interactions between organisms and the abiotic environment.
Understanding the molecular basis of insecticide resistance in mosquito, such as Anopheles funestus, is an important step in developing strategies to mitigate the resistance problem. This study aims to assess the role of the GSTe2 gene in DDT resistance and determine the genetic diversity of this gene in An. funestus.
Gene expression analysis was performed using microarrays and PCR while the potential mutation associated with resistance was determined using sequencing.

Ceritinib is an ALK receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved as first- and second-line treatment in adult patients with ALK + metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study investigated the drug-drug interaction (DDI) potential of ceritinib when coadministered with midazolam and warfarin as probe substrates for CYP3A and CYP2C9 activity, respectively.
This was a phase I, multicenter, open-label, single sequence, crossover DDI study in 33 adult patients with ALK + NSCLC or other advanced tumors. A single dose of a cocktail consisting of midazolam and warfarin was administered with and without concomitant administration of ceritinib. The primary objective was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of midazolam and warfarin. Secondary objectives included pharmacokinetics, safety, tolerability, overall response rate (ORR), and duration of response (DOR) of ceritinib 750mg once daily.
Ceritinib inhibited CYP3A-mediated metabolism of midazolam, resulting in a markedly increased AUC (geometric mean ratio [90% confidence interval]) by 5.4-fold (4.6, 6.3). Ceritinib also led to an increase in the AUC of S-warfarin by 54% (36%, 75%). The pharmacokinetics and safety profile of ceritinib in this study are consistent with previous reports and no new safety signals were reported. Among the 19 patients with NSCLC, efficacy (ORR 42.1% and DCR 63.2%) was similar to that reported previously in studies of pretreated patients with ALK + NSCLC.

A secondary aim sought to understand the effects of antiparkinsonian medication relative to exercise on motor control processes. Improvements in total time and reaction time in the CRT paradigm persisted 4 and 8 weeks following exercise cessation. Antiparkinsonian medication improved motor execution, but not information processing. The improvement in information processing following aerobic exercise, but not levodopa administration, suggests high intensity exercise may be enhancing neural processing and non-motor pathways outside those impacted by medication. The persistence of symptom improvement despite exercise intervention cessation indicates exercise is a candidate for disease modification. It is unclear, however, if these processes are influenced by the differences in how real (3D) tools and two-dimensional (2D) images of tools are processed by the brain. Here, we examined if these differences could influence the naming of tools. Participants were presented with a prime stimulus that was either a picture of a tool, or a real tool, followed by a target stimulus that was always a real tool. They were then required to name each tool as they appeared. The functional use action required by the target tool was either the same (i.e., squeegee-paint roller) or different (i.e. knife-whisk) to the prime. We found that the format in which the prime tool was presented (i.e., a picture or real tool) had no influence on the participants' response times to naming the target tool. Furthermore, participants were faster at naming target tools relative to prime tools when the exact same tool was presented as both the prime and target. There was no difference in response times to naming the target tool relative to the prime when they were different tools, regardless of whether the tools' functional actions were the same or different. We also found more errors in naming target tools relative to the primes when different tools had a different functional action compared to when the same tool was presented as both the prime and the target. Taken together, our results highlight that the functional actions associated with tools do not facilitate or interfere with the recognition of tools for the purposes of naming. This pictorial essay demonstrates a single-institution experience with the utilization of an Angio-CT system for TARE treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Procedural images and clinical data for twenty-four patients who underwent initial angiographic mapping with hepatopulmonary shunt fraction assessment and or administration of Yttrium-90 (Y-90) microspheres using the Angio-CT system to date were reviewed. Cases were reviewed for examples that highlight the specific utility of Angio-CT. Three representative TARE cases were selected which illustrate unique advantages and applications of the Angio-CT system when performing TARE. These include the ability to optimally delineate hepatic vascular anatomy, accurately calculate liver volumes for dosimetry, and improve the detection and characterization of equivocal lesions.
