People, particularly undergraduate students, who report elevated symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are at elevated risk of binge drinking. The present study used ecological momentary assessment to (a) evaluate whether PTSD severity, specifically, or psychological distress, generally, are associated with binge drinking and (b) examine the self-medication and susceptibility models of the comorbidity of PTSD with binge drinking while accounting for shared liability (i.e., the between-person association of PTSD symptom severity with binge drinking). Within a larger study of undergraduate student mental health, for 14 days, students who reported a potentially traumatic experience (N = 276) reported nightly on use of alcohol and psychoactive substances and thrice daily on current affect, internalizing symptoms, and PTSD symptoms. Daily binge drinking, per the NIAAA definition, was analyzed using multivariate mixed effects, multilevel logistic regression. Results support the self-medication model; participants were more likely to binge drink on days marked by elevated PTSD symptoms, OR = 2.82, p .16). Results suggest that, beyond understanding who is at risk for binge drinking, fluctuations in PTSD severity clarify when students engage in binge drinking. Mental health disparities between racial/ethnic minorities (REM) and White individuals are well documented. These disparities extend into psychotherapy and have been observed among clients receiving care at university/college counseling centers. However, less is known about if campus RE composition affects outcomes from psychotherapy for REM and White clients.
This study examined psychotherapy outcomes from 16,011 clients who engaged in services at 33 university/college counseling centers. Each of these clients completed the Behavioral Health Measure as a of part routine practice. Campus RE composition was coded from publicly available data.
The results demonstrated that White clients had better therapy outcomes than REM clients when they were at campuses where there were more White students. For universities 1 SD below the mean percentage of White students, the average difference in therapy outcomes for White and REM clients was Cohen's d = .21 (with White students experiencing more improvement); however, for universities 1
above the mean, the between group outcome disparity was greater (Cohen's
= .38).

Existing measures of sexual objectification were grounded in heterosexual women's experiences. The present research extends this prior work by centering sexual minority women's experiences to develop and evaluate the Sexual Minority Women's Sexual Objectification Experiences Scale (SMW-SOE). In Study 1, an initial 51 items were developed, drawing on prior qualitative research with sexual minority women and existing measures of sexual objectification experiences. Exploratory factor analysis of 217 sexual minority women's responses to the initial item set suggested an underlying structure of three interrelated factors. In Study 2, data were collected from an independent sample of 201 sexual minority women to conduct confirmatory factor analysis and evaluate validity evidence. Findings from the confirmatory factor analysis supported a higher order solution with three first-order factors. The final scale comprised 17 items six items assessing Sexualization of Sexual Identity, five items assessing Intrusive and Explicit Sexual Advances, and six items assessing Body Evaluation. In terms of validity, SMW-SOE overall scale scores yielded expected small-to-large positive correlations with heterosexist experiences, internalization of sociocultural appearance standards, and disordered eating; SMW-SOE subscale scores yielded distinctive patterns of correlations. SMW-SOE scale and subscale items yielded acceptable Cronbach's alphas in both samples. Implications for future research and clinical work are discussed. Studies conducted in developed countries have shown that attentional impairment is commonly seen in patients with major depressive disorders (MDD). There is a lack of studies using culture-free neuropsychological instruments. Additionally, attention consists of different subdomains. Deficits in subdomains have not been investigated in MDD. The purpose of the study was to test the hypothesis that anticholinergic drug exposure is associated with cognitive decline in the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer's Prevention (WRAP) study. Secondary aims were to assess if the effects of anticholinergic drugs on different domains of cognitive functioning varied for the entire sample and by apolipoprotein ε4 status.
The WRAP study includes a sample of 1,573 subjects who self-reported medication use and were administered several cognitive tests four times over a decade. Partial correlations assessed relationships between reported days of definite anticholinergic drug exposure with changes in cognitive performance. The aim of the current study is to investigate the long-term effectiveness of combined IPC plus LLLT versus IPC therapy alone in patients with PML. Methods and Results The patients were allocated into two groups in this single-blinded, controlled clinical trial. Group I received combined treatment with IPC plus LLLT (n = 21) and group II received only IPC (n = 21). IPC treatment was given 5 sessions per week for 4 weeks (20 sessions). LLLT was also performed 5 sessions per week for 4 weeks (20 sessions). Clinical evaluations were performed before and after the treatment at the 3, 6, and 12-month follow-up visits. According to within-group analysis, statistically significant improvements in the circumference difference (Cdiff) and grip strength were observed in both groups (for Cdiff, p = 0.018 and p = 0.032, respectively; for grip strength, p = 0.001 and p = 0.046, respectively). Visual analog scale values for arm pain and shoulder pain during motion were decreased only in group I. Conclusion Both interventions have positive effects on lymphedema, grip strength, and pain. Students with complete data sets were included in the analyses (synonym, N = 38; words-in-context, N = 37). Participants in both groups were taught eight curriculum vocabulary words per week for 90 min a week across four consecutive weeks (32 words). As a persistent pollutant, microplastics (MPs) have been reported to induce sperm quantity decrease in ****. Thirty-two adult male Wistar rats were divided randomly into four groups fed with PS-MPs for 90 days at doses of 0 mg/day (control group), 0.015 mg/day, 0.15 mg/day, and 1.5 mg/day, respectively. The present results have shown that PS-MP exposure led to the damage of seminiferous tubule, resulted in apoptosis of spermatogenic cells, and decreased the motility and concentration of sperm, while the abnormality of sperm was elevated. Meanwhile, PS-MPs could induce oxidative stress and activate the p38 MAPK pathway and thus deplete the nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). Noteworthily, PS-MPs led to the BTB-related protein expression decrease. All these results demonstrated that PS-MP exposure may lead to the destruction of BTB integrity and the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells through the activation of the MAPK-Nrf2 pathway. The current research employed the dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) and autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) tests to capture the long-run association between these economic indicators. Furthermore, the gradual shift and wavelet coherence tests are utilized to capture the direction of causality. The ARDL bound test discloses a long-run interconnection among the variables of interest. The outcomes of the ARDL and DOLS depict that CO2 emissions, agriculture, energy use, and urbanization trigger economic growth. Moreover, the wavelet coherence test findings revealed a positive correlation between economic growth and urbanization, CO2 emissions, agriculture, and energy consumption. Furthermore, there is evidence of a weak and positive correlation between economic growth and trade openness. Bioconcentration factors and translocation factors showed that the accumulation of Cd and Zn occurring in the shoots was the most effective. Combined with the considerable biomass produced by poplar, the extracted amounts of Cd and Zn could reach 0.61 g and 10.66 g plant-1, respectively, in which the shoots account for 77.3% (Cd) and 89.0% (Zn) of the overall extraction amounts. Acid-soluble Cd and Zn increased by 5.49% and 4.29%, respectively, in the rhizosphere compared to the bulk soil, indicating that poplar enhanced the mobility of Cd and Zn in the rhizosphere, which explained its ability for bioaccumulation and root-shoot translocation. Moreover, calculated time required to address the issue of Cd and Zn pollution was theoretically shortened by more than half from 2015 to 2019. With the increasing use of single-use plastics, the impact of face masks on microplastic pollution is of great concern.
As a persistent pollutant, microplastics (MPs) have been reported to induce sperm quantity decrease in mice. Thirty-two adult male Wistar rats were divided randomly into four groups fed with PS-MPs for 90 days at doses of 0 mg/day (control group), 0.015 mg/day, 0.15 mg/day, and 1.5 mg/day, respectively. The present results have shown that PS-MP exposure led to the damage of seminiferous tubule, resulted in apoptosis of spermatogenic cells, and decreased the motility and concentration of sperm, while the abnormality of sperm was elevated. Meanwhile, PS-MPs could induce oxidative stress and activate the p38 MAPK pathway and thus deplete the nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). Noteworthily, PS-MPs led to the BTB-related protein expression decrease. All these results demonstrated that PS-MP exposure may lead to the destruction of BTB integrity and the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells through the activation of the MAPK-Nrf2 pathway. Digital health technologies (DHTs) generate a large volume of information used in health care for administrative, educational, research, and clinical purposes. The clinical use of digital information for diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic purposes has multiple patient safety problems, some of which result from poor information quality (IQ).
This systematic review aims to synthesize an IQ framework that could be used to evaluate the extent to which digital health information is fit for clinical purposes.
The review was conducted according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. We searched Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, Maternity and Infant Care, PsycINFO, Global Health, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, Scopus, and HMIC (the Health Management Information Consortium) from inception until October 2019. Multidimensional IQ frameworks for assessing DHTs used in the clinical context by health care professionals were included. A thematic synthesis approach was used to synthesize the Clinical Information Quality (CLIQ) framework for digital health.
We identified 10 existing IQ frameworks from which we developed the CLIQ framework for digital health with 13 unique dimensions accessibility, completeness, portability, security, timeliness, accuracy, interpretability, plausibility, provenance, relevance, conformance, consistency, and maintainability, which were categorized into 3 meaningful categories availability, informativeness, and usability.

Server data collected directly from web-based platforms can provide detailed, real-time behavioral information over the course of intervention programs that can be used to understand how interventions work.
The objective of this study was to demonstrate how social network analysis can facilitate our understanding of the mechanisms underlying a social media-based weight loss intervention.
We performed secondary analysis by using data from a pilot study that delivered a dietary and physical activity intervention to a group of participants via Facebook. We mapped out participantsts' psychological and behavioral outcomes. Future studies are warranted to validate our results and to further explore the relationship between network dynamics and study outcomes in similar and larger trials.
Voice-controlled intelligent personal assistants (VIPAs), such as Amazon Echo and Google Home, involve artificial intelligence-powered algorithms designed to simulate humans. Their hands-free interface and growing capabilities have a wide range of applications in health care, covering off-clinic education, health monitoring, and communication. However, conflicting factors, such as patient safety and privacy concerns, make it difficult to foresee the further development of VIPAs in health care.
This study aimed to develop a plausible scenario for the further development of VIPAs in health care to support decision making regarding the procurement of VIPAs in health care organizations.
We conducted a two-stage Delphi study with an internationally recruited panel consisting of voice assistant experts, medical professionals, and representatives of academia, governmental health authorities, and nonprofit health associations having expertise with voice technology. Twenty projections were formulated and evaluat in health care. However, voice assistants are expected to solely support health care professionals in their daily operations and will not be able to outperform or replace medical staff.
According to the surveyed experts, VIPAs will show notable technological development and gain more user trust in the near future, resulting in widespread application in health care. Such an eCoach system needs to collect and transform distributed heterogenous health and wellness data into meaningful information to train an artificially intelligent health risk prediction model. However, it may produce a data compatibility dilemma. Our proposed eHealth ontology can increase interoperability between different heterogeneous networks, provide situation awareness, help in data integration, and discover inferred knowledge. This "proof-of-concept" study will help sensor, questionnaire, and interview data to be more organized for health risk prediction and personalized recommendation generation targeting obesity as a study case.

Imatinib was the first generation TKI and the prototype of targeted therapy, but over the years second- (dasatinib, nilotinib, bosutinib) and third-generation (ponatinib) TKIs showed a capacity to overcome resistance to imatinib in Ph+ hematological neoplasms. Given the effectiveness of the first-in-class TKI, imatinib, also the second-generation TKI dasatinib was incorporated in the treatment regimens of Ph+ALL. To investigate the utility of spectral computed tomography (CT) parameters for the prediction of the preoperative Masaoka-Koga stage of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs).
Fifty-four patients with TETs, aged from 37 to 73 years old, an average age of 55.56 ± 9.79 years, were included in the study.According to the Masaoka-Koga staging method, there were 19 cases of stage I, 15 cases of stage II, 8 cases of stage III, and 12 cases of stage IV disease. All patients underwent dual-phase enhanced energy spectral CT scans. Regions of interest (ROIs) were defined in sections of the lesion with homogeneous density, the thoracic aorta at the same level as the lesion, the outer fat layer of the lesion, and the anterior chest wall fat layer. The single-energy CT value at 40-140 keV, iodine concentration, and energy spectrum curve of all lesion and thoracic aorta were obtained. The energy spectrum CT parameters of the lesions, extracapsular fat of the lesions, and anterior chest wall fat in stage I and stage II were obtm curves of the mass and the extracapsular fat of the mass. The accuracy rate of is 79.4%. For stages III and IV, there was no significant difference in the slope of the energy spectrum curve of the tumor parenchyma, metastatic lymph node, and intravascular embolism (P>0.05). The energy spectrum curve of the tumor parenchyma was consistent with that of the enlarged lymph nodes and intravascular emboli. The two radiologists have strong consistency in evaluating TETs Masaoka-Koga staging, The Kappa coefficient is 0.873,(95%CI0.768-0.978).

To bridge that gap, we developed a microfluidic, non-contact, and low-input volume compatible acoustic trapping technology for EV isolation that enabled downstream small RNA sequencing. In the current study, we have further automated the acoustic microfluidics-based EV enrichment technique that enables us to serially process 32 clinical samples per run. We utilized the system to enrich EVs from urine collected as the first morning void from 207 men referred to 10-core prostate biopsy performed the same day. Using automated acoustic trapping, we successfully enriched EVs from 199/207 samples (96%). After RNA extraction, size selection, and library preparation, a total of 173/199 samples (87%) provided sufficient materials for next-generation sequencing that generated an average of, and miR-27a are consistently deregulated in prostate cancer. Taken together, this is the first time that our automated microfluidic EV enrichment technique has been found to be capable of enriching EVs on a large scale from 900 μl of urine for small RNA sequencing in a robust and disease discriminatory manner.

Before the era of tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs), pediatric Ph+ALL showed a worse prognosis in comparison to other forms of ALL, and was managed with intensive chemotherapy, followed, whenever possible, by allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in first morphological complete remission. TKIs have revolutionized the current clinical approach, which involves combinations of imatinib plus standard chemotherapy that can abrogate the negative prognostic impact conferred by the presence of BCR/ABL1 rearrangement, resulting in the probability of event-free survival (EFS) being significantly better than that recorded in the pre-TKI era. Long-term follow-up confirms these data, questioning the role of a real advantage offered by HSCT over intensive chemotherapy plus TKI in all Ph+ALL pediatric patients. Imatinib was the first generation TKI and the prototype of targeted therapy, but over the years second- (dasatinib, nilotinib, bosutinib) and third-generation (ponatinib) TKIs showed a capacity to overcome resistance to imatinib in Ph+ hematological neoplasms. Given the effectiveness of the first-in-class TKI, imatinib, also the second-generation TKI dasatinib was incorporated in the treatment regimens of Ph+ALL. In this manuscript, we will discuss the role of this drug in pediatric Ph+ALL, analyzing the available data published to date. To investigate the utility of spectral computed tomography (CT) parameters for the prediction of the preoperative Masaoka-Koga stage of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs). Fifty-four patients with TETs, aged from 37 to 73 years old, an average age of 55.56 ± 9.79 years, were included in the study.According to the Masaoka-Koga staging method, there were 19 cases of stage I, 15 cases of stage II, 8 cases of stage III, and 12 cases of stage IV disease. All patients underwent dual-phase enhanced energy spectral CT scans. Regions of interest (ROIs) were defined in sections of the lesion with homogeneous density, the thoracic aorta at the same level as the lesion, the outer fat layer of the lesion, and the anterior chest wall fat layer. The single-energy CT value at 40-140 keV, iodine concentration, and energy spectrum curve of all lesion and thoracic aorta were obtained. The energy spectrum CT parameters of the lesions, extracapsular fat of the lesions, and anterior chest wall fat in stage I and stage II were obtm curves of the mass and the extracapsular fat of the mass. The accuracy rate of is 79.4%. For stages III and IV, there was no significant difference in the slope of the energy spectrum curve of the tumor parenchyma, metastatic lymph node, and intravascular embolism (P>0.05). To bridge that gap, we developed a microfluidic, non-contact, and low-input volume compatible acoustic trapping technology for EV isolation that enabled downstream small RNA sequencing. In the current study, we have further automated the acoustic microfluidics-based EV enrichment technique that enables us to serially process 32 clinical samples per run. We utilized the system to enrich EVs from urine collected as the first morning void from 207 men referred to 10-core prostate biopsy performed the same day. Using automated acoustic trapping, we successfully enriched EVs from 199/207 samples (96%). Fish cultivation in rice fields is a valuable resource in some rural areas of the world. Fish is a source of protein and an additional source of income for local farmers. However, the use of pesticides may impact fish and consumer health. The aim of this study was to evaluate exposure and effect biomarkers in native fish inhabiting a rice field during a production cycle. Samples of fish, water and sediment from a rice field in Santa Fe, Argentina were collected during a cultivation season (at the beginning November 2017, in the middle December 2017 and at the end February 2018). At each sampling period, fish biomarkers of effect (biometric indices, hematological parameters, energy reserves, oxidative stress and neurotoxicity) were assessed together with pesticide screening in water, sediment, and fish samples. Only herbicides were present in water and sediment samples in agreement with land treatment before rice sowing stage, where only herbicides were applied. In general, the greatest water concentrations of bentazone, glyphosate and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), and the lowest sediment glyphosate and AMPA levels were observed at the beginning of the farming cycle. Fish bioaccumulated AMPA residues at all sampling periods and showed biological responses to cope with a stressful environment. Alterations in hematological parameters, mobilization of energetic reserves and activation of the antioxidant system were detected. However, no oxidative damage nor neurotoxic effects were present along the production cycle. Under a real exposure scenario, the present work demonstrates that biological changes are induced in fish to cope with stressors present in a rice field. This disorder presents as extensive thrombosis in atypical sites, primarily in the cerebral venous, alongside thrombocytopenia and the production of autoantibody against platelet-factor 4 (PF4). PF4 autoantibody has the ability to binds the human FcRγIIA receptor of platelets and contribute to their aggregation. This rare adverse effect extremely resembles the clinical presentation of the classical immune-mediated HIT disorder, which occurs following exposure to heparin. Surprisingly, none of these patients had been pre-exposed to heparin before disease onset, leading to the hypothesis that a viral antigen from the vaccine had triggered the response. Importantly, COVID-19 had been associated with numerous autoimmune manifestations, including the production of pathogenic autoantibodies, new onset of autoimmune diseases and disorders. This work adopts a dual-site-doping approach to enhance the electrochemical performance and structural stability of Ni-rich cathode materials, which could be extended as a universal modification strategy to improve the electrochemical performance of other cathode materials.Solid-state structures find a self-assembled tetrameric nickel cage with carboxylate linkages, [Ni(N2S'O)I(CH3CN)]4 ([Ni-I]40), resulting from sulfur acetylation by sodium iodoacetate of an [NiN2S]22+ dimer in acetonitrile. Various synthetic routes to the tetramer, best described from XRD as a molecular square, were discovered to generate the hexacoordinate nickel units ligated by N2Sthioether, iodide, and two carboxylate oxygens, one of which is the bridge from the adjacent nickel unit in [Ni-I]40. Removal of the four iodides by silver ion precipitation yields an analogous species but with an additional vacant coordination site, [Ni-Solv]+, a cation but with coordinated solvent molecules. This also recrystallizes as the tetramer [Ni-Solv]44+. In solution, dissociation into the (presumed) monomer occurs, with coordinating solvents occupying the vacant site [Ni(N2S'O)I(solv)]0, ([Ni-I]0). Replacing the single-channel DMS pump with a binary high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) pump enabled the generation of modifier mixtures at a constant flow rate using an isocratic or gradient mode, and the analytical benefits of the system were investigated considering cyclohexane, n-hexane, or n-octane as nonclustering modifiers and isopropanol or ethanol as clustering modifiers. It was found that clustering and nonclustering modifier mixtures enable optimization of selectivity, resolution, and sensitivity for different positional isomers and diastereoisomers. Data further suggested different ion separation mechanisms depending on the modifier ratios. For 85 analytes, the absolute difference in compensation voltages (CoVs) between pure nitrogen and cyclohexane at 1.5 mol % ratio was below 4 V, demonstrating its potential as a nonclustering modifier. Cyclohexane's nonclustering behavior was further supported by molecular modeling using density functional theory (DFT) and calculated cluster binding energies, showing positive ΔG values. The ability to control analyte CoVs by adjusting modifier concentrations in isocratic and gradient modes is beneficial for optimizing multidimensional LCxDMS-MS. Two hundred three samples with modified shape and doubled lymphocyte cluster of DIFF scattergram (study group) were divided into two different subgroups with and, respectively, without serological evidence of ongoing IM. Activated and apoptotic cells in peripheral blood were counted by light microscopy or gating in the instrumental dot plots. Values of apoptotic cells counted by microscopy were compared with those resulting from gating.
Samples with both shape change and doubled lymphocyte cluster had serological profiles according to the diagnosis of ongoing infectious mononucleosis. Blood smears review was positive for reactive lymphocytes in all 112 samples (100%).

Replacing the single-channel DMS pump with a binary high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) pump enabled the generation of modifier mixtures at a constant flow rate using an isocratic or gradient mode, and the analytical benefits of the system were investigated considering cyclohexane, n-hexane, or n-octane as nonclustering modifiers and isopropanol or ethanol as clustering modifiers. It was found that clustering and nonclustering modifier mixtures enable optimization of selectivity, resolution, and sensitivity for different positional isomers and diastereoisomers. Data further suggested different ion separation mechanisms depending on the modifier ratios. For 85 analytes, the absolute difference in compensation voltages (CoVs) between pure nitrogen and cyclohexane at 1.5 mol % ratio was below 4 V, demonstrating its potential as a nonclustering modifier. Cyclohexane's nonclustering behavior was further supported by molecular modeling using density functional theory (DFT) and calculated cluster binding energies, showing positive ΔG values. The ability to control analyte CoVs by adjusting modifier concentrations in isocratic and gradient modes is beneficial for optimizing multidimensional LCxDMS-MS. We carried out a lateral-flow tests study on 401 nasopharyngeal swab samples from nonduplicated suspected COVID-19 subjects. An equal volume of universal transport medium tubes-containing samples (dilution ratio = 115) were added to the manufacturer's extraction buffer solution (dilution ratio = 12) and analyzed on BioSpeedia COVID19Speed-Antigen Test and on Abbott Panbio™ COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test, devices. Qualitative results were compared to those obtained by the RT-qPCR (Allplex™ SARS-CoV-2 Assay Seegene). Based on our data, the overall sensitivity for BioSpeedia and Panbio devices was estimated at 65.5% and 75.0%, respectively. The sensitivity was greater for cycle threshold values less than 25 achieving 90.4 and 96.8 for BioSpeedia and Panbio devices, respectively. A perfect specificity of 100.0% was observed for both devices.Although superficial wounds are often easy to treat for healthy individuals, there are some more severe types of wounds (burns, ulcers, diabetic wounds, etc.) that are a challenge for clinicians. New wound healing devices can combine smart hydrogel dressings with physical therapies to deliver a more efficient treatment to patients if the indications are appropriate.
To investigate the prevalence and features of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) in patients with primary burning mouth syndrome (BMS).
Prospective uncontrolled study.
Patients who visited our Departments of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck and Maxillofacial surgery with BMS were prospectively recruited from September 2018 to September 2020. Patients benefited from dental, maxillofacial, otolaryngological examinations, and hypopharyngeal-esophageal impedance pH-monitoring (HEMII-pH). Oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal findings and symptoms were rated with Reflux Sign Assessment (RSA) and Reflux Symptom Score-12 (RSS-12). Patients were treated with a combination of diet, pantoprazole, and alginate.
From the 81 included patients, 76 reported >1 pharyngeal reflux events (93.8%), accounting for 35 (46.1%), 24 (31.6%), and 17 (22.3%) acid, mixed, and nonacid LPR, respectively. Thirty-two patients had both LPR and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Thirty-eight patients benefited from pepsin saliva measurement, which was positive in 86.

Initial procalcitonin (PCT) levels may fail in mortality and septic shock prediction and raise cost-effectiveness issues. Since measurement of lactate, C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cells and neutrophils is common in the emergency department (ED), we compared prediction abilities of these biomarkers to PCT.
From January 1st to December 31st, 2018, an observational, single center, retrospective study was conducted in the adult ED of the Reims University Hospital (France). Endpoints were bacteremia, septic shock, and in-hospital mortality, related to the same ED visit.
Over one year, 459 patients suspected with infection were included, of mean age 60.4 years (SD 22.0), with 50.8% male, and 364 (79.3%) were hospitalized following ED visit. To determine the occurrence of olfactory and gustatory disruptions in COVID-19 patients, their association with demographic and clinical features and prognosis.
This observational cohort study involved consecutively diagnosed COVID-19 patients tested between March the 3rd 2020 and March the 24th 2020, in a geographically defined cohort area. All COVID-19 patients were evaluated in a University Hospital. The primary outcome of interest is the prevalence of smell and taste alterations, factors associated and recovery rate. Univariate and multivariate analysis by logistic regression was performed to detect factors associated to these symptoms.
151 patients were included and 99 (65.6%) reported olfactory or gustatory symptoms. Olfactory dysfunction was reported by 75 patients (49.7%). Isolated anosmia was found in 2 patients (1.3%). Gustatory dysfunction was reported by 91 patients (60.3%). Factors associated with higher prevalence of smell dysfunction included age, sex, and comorbidities. The time to smell disruption development was significantly shorter in mild to moderate patients than in severe patients (p=0.043). In 85.3% of patients with smell disruption, the symptom had been resolved in the first 2months. 14.7% of patients remained symptomatic after 3months of follow-up.

The MeSH terms 'Osteoma', 'Nasal Cavity', and 'Paranasal Sinuses' were used to retrieve articles concerning the management of paranasal sinus osteomas that were published in the last 30years, the vast majority of which comprised case reports of one or two cases. Original articles or large series of more than six cases were prioritized.
Our review summarizes previous findings and opinions relevant to the management of symptomatic and asymptomatic paranasal sinus osteomas. The recent shifts in trends of their management are thoroughly discussed. Currently, an extension of the lesion through the anterior frontal sinus wall; an erosion of the posterior wall of the frontal sinus; a far-anterior intraorbital extension; an attachment to the orbital roof beyond the midorbital point; and some patient-specific adverse anatomic variations that may restrict access, are considered strong contraindications to a purely endoscopic approach. On the grounds of this thorough review, a new grading system for frontal and frontoethmoidal osteomas is proposed to allow better conformity to recent advancements and current clinical, research, and educational needs.

Mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for generalized convulsive status epilepticus (GCSE) are a heterogeneous population. Our objective was to evaluate the number of patients who fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for refractory GCSE and describe their initial management and prognosis.
This multicenter retrospective study was conducted in four French ICUs in Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital in Paris and in the Hospital of Jossigny. Mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the ICU for GCSE between, January 1, 2014, and, December 31, 2016, were included. Patients with anoxia and traumatic brain injury were excluded. Their pre-hospital and ICU medical records were reviewed. The collected data included pre-hospital clinical status, pre-hospital antiepileptic treatment, reason for mechanical ventilation, duration of general anesthesia, and prognosis in the ICU. A retrospective initial diagnosis based on the findings of the analysis of the clinical records was attributed to each patient.

We systematically searched articles that explored DDI with rivaroxaban up to 20 August 2018 via Medline, Embase and Google Scholar. Data from VigiBase came from spontaneous reports recovered up to 2 January 2018, where Omega was used to detect signals and identify potential interactions in terms of triplets with two drugs and one ADR. We identified 31 studies and 28 case reports. Studies showed significant variation in the pharmacokinetic for rivaroxaban, and an increased risk of haemorrhage or thromboembolic events due to DDI was highlighted in case reports. From VigiBase, a total of 21,261 triplets were analysed and the most reported was rivaroxaban-aspirin-gastrointestinal haemorrhage. In VigiBase, only 34.8% of the DDI reported were described or understood, and most were pharmacodynamic DDI. These data suggest that rivaroxaban should be considered to have significant potential for DDI, especially with CYP3A/P-gp modulators or with drugs that impair haemostasis.Children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are vulnerable to traumatic injuries. The different photophysical and electrochemical properties of these viologens were attributed to their deviation in spatial structure caused by different substituents. Compared with benzyl-substituted BV, a slight blueshift occurred for the absorption peaks of alkyl-substituted viologens from 262 to 257 nm with the increase in alkyl chain length. Moreover, the first redox couple increased positively, and the dimerization of the compound decreased gradually, accompanied by the decrease in optical contrast and distinct chromatic difference. A comparison of chromatic and optical contrasts indicated that OV had the longest coloring response time (RTc), while it was shortest for HV. In this review, we have summarized the current status and challenges of DMOAD for IA injection, especially for protein therapeutics, gene therapy, and oligonucleotide therapeutics.Ophthalmic drugs used for the treatment of various ocular diseases are commonly administered by eye drops. However, due to anatomical and physiological factors, there is a low bioavailability of the active principle. In order to increase the drug residence time on the cornea to adequate levels, therapeutic contact lenses have recently been proposed. The polymeric support that constitutes the contact lens is loaded with the drug; in this way, there is a direct and effective pharmacological action on the target organ, promoting a prolonged release of the active principle. The incorporation of ophthalmic drugs into contact lenses can be performed by different techniques; nowadays, the soaking method is mainly employed. To improve the therapeutic performance of drug-loaded contact lenses, innovative methods have recently been proposed, including the impregnation with supercritical carbon dioxide. This updated review of therapeutic contact lenses production and application provides useful information on the most effective preparation methodologies, recent achievements and future perspectives.

Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb.(VBT) is well-known for many physiological and bioactivities in some ancient Chinese pharmacopeias and modern researches. The health benefits are related to the presence of various nutritional and bioactive compounds. This review aims to demonstrate an updated overview of VBT in respect of botanical characters, nutritional and bioactive composition, main biological activities, and current applications. Various studies have emphasized at promising health benefits of VBT against hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, inflammation, depressive disorder, and retinal damage. However, the applications of VBT are limited to some native traditional foods and Chinese medicine. The novel beneficial efficacy and applications are still needed to be investigated. In conclusion, more research is necessary to overcome these gaps between the in-depth insights of health benefits and potential industrial applications. This review will contribute in future research for developing the functional foods derived from VBT.Homopolysaccharides (HoPS) produced by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are highly versatile, biocompatible and safe compounds. In this work, six HoPS from different species of Weisella and Leuconostoc were identified as thermally stable dextrans, with endothermic crystalline deformations between 214 and 239 °C. These dextrans proved to have greater solubility and capacities to retain water and oil than similar polymers in other reports. Furthermore, a surface morphology study presented cubic grumps, stratify mesh with irregular grumps, and highly compact filaments. Assays in vitro revealed moderate antioxidant, browning and foaming activities as well as technological properties, such as anti-syneresis, emulsifying and flocculating activities, even at low concentrations. Taking into account bipolymers' microstructure, functionalities and performance in both, aqueous and hydrophobic matrixes, plus their capacity to maintain themselves at elevated temperatures, we consider these HoPS beneficial and natural food additives.Copper molybdate nanoplates were synthesized by a sonochemical process at room temperature, which we report as a simple and cost-effective route. Structural analysis of the material by the Rietveld method of X-ray diffraction (XRD) data revealed lindgrenite Cu3(MoO4)2(OH)2 in a single-phase structure. All the vibrational modes characteristic of the space group were identified by Raman vibrational and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopies. The profile obtained for N2 adsorption/desorption was type III hysteresis, characteristic of mesoporous materials, with a surface area of 70.77(1) m2 g-1. The micrographs of the material obtained by scanning electron microscopy showed nanoplates with nanometric sizes and an anisotropic growth aspect. The catalytic activity of lindgrenite was evaluated by esterifying oleic acid with methanol, showing high conversion rate to methyl oleate and good catalyst stability after seven recycling cycles. Above all, the best catalytic performance was reached when we optimized parameters such as oleic acidmethanol molar ratio of 15, 5% of catalyst dosage, and reaction time of 5 h, resulting in 98.38% of conversion at 413 K. Therefore, sonochemically synthesized lindgrenite proved to be a high potential material for biofuel production by oleic acid esterification.
Women endure physical and psychological abuse from carers during delivery. This form of human-right violation has not been well investigated, especially, in low-income countries. This study determined the prevalence and predictors of obstetric violence among women who gave birth in urban Kano, Nigeria.
Descriptive cross sectional study.
Three hundred and sixty (360) postnatal attendees were interviewed using validated structured questionnaires. Forms of obstetric violence were ascertained and predictors generated using a logistic regression model in SPSS.
The overall prevalence of obstetric violence was 32.3% (n=115). The proportion among women who gave birth at home and in the hospital were 15.8% (n=28) and 48.6% (n=87), respectively (p<0.05). Of the respondents that have experienced at least one form of OV, the most reported form was due to failure to meet professional standards of care (61.7%), of which neglect and abandonment (38.3%) was the commonest form. The least reported form was physical abuse (22.6%). Obstetric violence was predicted by place of delivery (hospital versus home) (Adjusted Odds ratio (AOR)=3.52, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = (2.07-5.99), parity (0 versus≥1) (AOR=2.94, 95%CI (1.62-5.35), and labour/delivery complication (present versus absent) (AOR=2.22, 95%CI (1.17-4.24).

To examine the benefit of GH in restoration of granulosa cell, we determined cell proliferation, cell apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, the expression of antioxidant components Sod2, Sirt3, as well as the mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number after GH treatment. We found that the cisplatin exposure significantly inhibited cell proliferation and elevated the apoptotic rate by student's t-test (p less then 0.05). Whereas, the GH treatment could rescue the cell proliferation and decrease the apoptotic rate, as well as reduce the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio (p less then 0.05). Additionally, GH significantly reduced abnormal ROS levels and increased the level of Sirt3 and Sod2 thus alleviating the oxidative stress. We also found that GH facilitated the recovery of mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number in granulosa cells. Our results indicated that GH exerted protective effects in cisplatin-induced ovarian granulosa cell apoptosis by alleviating oxidative stress and enhancing mitochondrial function via Sirt3-Sod2 pathway.
