It is an iterative process where panel members complete questionnaires over several rounds, often rating their agreement/disagreement against a statement, with changes made in later rounds based on the feedback received. It has been used widely in pharmacy-related studies relevant to education, research and practice. This paper provides a critical analysis of the various design choices which researchers may consider when planning a Delphi namely the panel of participants, the use of the Likert scale, the effect of feedback, what constitutes consensus and the number of rounds. It also gives an overview of the development and origins of the Delphi, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the technique. Advantages include that the Delphi can be conducted with panel members in different geographical locations in their own time, however the technique can therefore take longer to conduct and lacks face-to-face discussion. Patient experts may be less comfortable participating in a relatively complex survey, however the anonymous nature of the process can be more inclusive in allowing participants to feedback candidly. This paper shows the importance of careful planning of the design choices to ensure the reliability and validity of the Delphi.
Acquiescent response style (ARS) refers to survey respondents' tendency to choose response categories agreeing to questions regardless of their content and is hypothesized as a stable respondent trait. While what underlies acquiescence is debatable, the effect of ARS on measurement is clear bias through artificially increased agreement ratings. With certain population subgroups (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities in the U.S.) are associated with systemically higher ARS, it causes concerns for research involving those groups. For this reason, it may be necessary to classify respondents as acquiescers or a nonacquiescers, which allows independent analysis or accounting for this stylistic artifact. However, this classification is challenging, because ARS is latent, observed only as a by-product of collected data.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) focus on improvement of quality of care through TOC services. Studies have not used both implementation science and patient input to develop a TOC program that fulfills CMS criteria and satisfies patients' reported needs.
The study objectives were to I) develop the TOC program in alignment with CMS criteria, identifying and remedying barriers during the process, and II) conduct a needs assessment and obtain patient perspectives on TOC service.
The implementation science approach was chosen to refine the TOC service at one university medical center ambulatory care clinic. Barriers within the TOC program that prevented CMS criteria from being followed were identified on site during patient care. Changes were implemented in a timely manner by the pharmacy resident and TOC team. A prospective nine-item open-answer survey was administered to patients discharg CMS criteria and TOC protocol. The needs assessment highlighted desired changes by TOC patients. Long-term outcomes will need to be studied to determine if the implemented changes at this site are sustainable.
Triaging in community pharmacies can lower the burden of minor health disorders on other primary health care settings. The netCare service, introduced in 2012 by the Swiss association of pharmacists, provides community pharmacists with 27 decision trees for the triage of minor health disorders.

Client characteristics, weekdays, recommended course of action, availability of a general practitioner, and hypothetical course of action if netCare would not have been available were investigated. Follow-up information was assessed for resolution of symptoms and prevention of needing additional services. Data from consultations with empty assessment forms were used to identify minal for pharmacists to minimize the demand on other primary health care providers.
In 2017, Oregon passed legislation that authorized pharmacists to autonomously prescribe specified medications or devices that were included on the Formulary and Protocol Compendia (FPC). Factors that impact pharmacists' intention to prescribe from the FPC are not currently known.

The long-legged fly Lichtwardtia dentalis Zhang, Masunaga et Yang, 2009 belongs to the subfamily Dolichopodinae of Dolichopodidae. The newly sequenced mitogenome of L. dentalis is a new representative of the subfamily. The nearly complete mitogenome is 15,124 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs). All genes have similar locations and encoding directions with that of other published mitogenomes of Dolichopodidae. The nucleotide composition biases toward A and T with the overall A + T % is 73.9%. All protein-coding genes initiate with standard start codon ATN except COI and NAD1, and TAA/TAG are conventionally used as stop codons. All tRNAs, ranging from 62 to 71 bp, have a clover-leaf structure. Based on the result of the phylogenetic analysis, Dolichopodidae and Empididae were monophyletic, and the relationships among subfamilies of Dolichopodidae were Diaphorinae + (Peloropeodinae + (Xanthochlorinae + (Medeterinae + Dolichopodinae))). The monophyly of the subfamily Dolichopodinae and the sister relationship between Dolichopus and Lichtwardtia were also strongly supported.Two mitochondrial genomes of the dynastine beetles, Oryctes rhinoceros (Linnaeus, 1758) and Eophileurus chinensis (Faldermann, 1835), were assembled via high-throughput sequencing (HTS). Each of the mitogenomes has 37 genes, showing standard gene order and annotation as the other insects, except for the transfer genes, presenting tQ-tI-tM order. To examine their phylogenetic positions, 118 public mitogenomes of Scarabaeidae were used to infer a ML tree. Overall, our scarabaeid phylogeny reveals clear relationships with high nodal supports, and the two rhinoceros beetles are both grouped with the subfamily Dynastinae. The feeding habit of the two clades seems to represent coprophagous and phytophagous types. However, polyphyletic relationships were observed in the subfamily Melolothinae and in the tribes of Onthophagini and Oniticellini. Our phylogenetic analysis reveals that A. crassicarpa is closely related to A. podalyriifolia and A. dealbata.Pampus chinensis is a commercially important fishery species in the Indo-West Pacific region. In the present study, the genetic variation of P. chinensis among 10 sampling localities along the China coast and one from the Indonesia region was evaluated using mitochondrial DNA control region sequences. As a result, a total of 30 variable sites were detected in the 458 bp segment of the control region among 330 individuals from 11 localities, and 41 haplotypes were defined. Samples in the China coast present a high level of genetic diversity, with the values of haplotype diversity ranged from 0.674 to 0.860, and nucleotide diversity from 0.820% to 1.502%. Pairwise FST statistics showed a moderate genetic divergence (-0.027 to 0.384) among samples from different geographical locations. Median-joining network analysis revealed a similar pattern of phylogeographic structure in samples from Ningbo and Dongxing although they were far apart. Therefore, joint influences of dispersal capability, spatial distance, ocean current and geographic segregation on the formation of the present population structure in P. chinensis was proposed. Delays in esophageal transit of liquid and semi-solid boluses were infrequent (7.0% and 16.3% respectively). Deglutitive reflux of both semi-solids and liquids was common (48.8% and 32.6%). The median semi-solid gastric emptying half-time was 21.0 min. A large proportion of substrate transited into the small bowel on initial image acquisition (median 39.1%). Reflux events during gastric emptying were common (median 5.0 events, 12.7% of image acquisition time).

Here we review the diagnosis of sarcoidosis and propose a clinically feasible diagnostic work-up and monitoring protocol. As sarcoidosis is a systemic disease, a multidisciplinary approach is recommended for best outcomes. However, since the lungs are frequently involved, the pulmonologist is often the referral physician for diagnosis and management. When sarcoidosis is suspected, diagnosis needs to be confirmed and organ involvement/impairment assessed. This process is also required to establish whether the patient is likely to benefit from treatment, as many cases of sarcoidosis are self-limited and remit spontaneously. Whether or not treatment is started, effective regular follow-up is necessary to monitor changes in the disease, including extension, progression, remissions, flare-ups, and complications.
Cell spheroids and aggregates generated from three-dimensional (3D) cell culture methods are similar to in vivo tumors in terms of tissue morphology, biology, and gene expression, unlike cells grown in 2D cell cultures. Breast cancer heterogeneity is one of the main drug resistant mechanisms and needs to be overcome in order to increase the efficacy of drug activity in its treatments.
We performed a unique 3D cell culture and drug efficacy study with trastuzumab emtansine (Kadcyla®, T-DM1) across five breast cancer cell lines (BT-474, SK-BR-3, MDA-MB-361, MDA-MB-175, and MCF-7) that were previously investigated in 2D cell culture. We performed HER2 IHC staining, cell viability experiments, Gene-protein-assay (GPA), and T-DM1 internalization studies.
We obtained significantly different results including higher IC
for some of the cell lines. Our GPA showed some significant heterogeneous HER2 gene and protein expression in 3D cultured spheroids or aggregates. The fluorescent images also showed that a longer incubation time is needed for T-DM1 to be internalized effectively into 3D cultured spheroids or aggregates.
Our study demonstrated that the difference of T-DM1 drug activity in 3D spheroids or aggregates might be due to tumor heterogeneity and less efficient internalization of T-DM1 that is not seen using 2D cell culture models. Drug studies using 3D cell culture are expected to provide biologically relevant models for determining drug activity in tumor tissue in future drug response and resistance research.

Delays in esophageal transit of liquid and semi-solid boluses were infrequent (7.0% and 16.3% respectively). Deglutitive reflux of both semi-solids and liquids was common (48.8% and 32.6%). Here we review the diagnosis of sarcoidosis and propose a clinically feasible diagnostic work-up and monitoring protocol. As sarcoidosis is a systemic disease, a multidisciplinary approach is recommended for best outcomes. However, since the lungs are frequently involved, the pulmonologist is often the referral physician for diagnosis and management. When sarcoidosis is suspected, diagnosis needs to be confirmed and organ involvement/impairment assessed. This process is also required to establish whether the patient is likely to benefit from treatment, as many cases of sarcoidosis are self-limited and remit spontaneously. Whether or not treatment is started, effective regular follow-up is necessary to monitor changes in the disease, including extension, progression, remissions, flare-ups, and complications. We performed HER2 IHC staining, cell viability experiments, Gene-protein-assay (GPA), and T-DM1 internalization studies. We obtained significantly different results including higher IC for some of the cell lines. Our GPA showed some significant heterogeneous HER2 gene and protein expression in 3D cultured spheroids or aggregates. The fluorescent images also showed that a longer incubation time is needed for T-DM1 to be internalized effectively into 3D cultured spheroids or aggregates. The results suggest that there is a substitution relationship between informal care and formal home care and that this substitution relationship is stronger for highly impaired middle-aged and older individuals. After a brief account of Fromentel's life, this article discusses his thesis and a book on the subject he published five years later in the light of current understanding of the phenomenon and the proximity of synalgia and allachaesthesia.The ubiquitin system impacts most cellular processes and is altered in numerous neurodegenerative diseases. However, little is known about its role in neurodegenerative diseases due to disturbances of glycogen metabolism such as Lafora disease (LD). In LD, insufficiently branched and long-chained glycogen forms and precipitates into insoluble polyglucosan bodies (Lafora bodies), which drive neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration and epilepsy. LD is caused by mutations in the gene encoding the glycogen phosphatase laforin or the gene coding for the laforin interacting partner ubiquitin E3 ligase malin. The role of the malin-laforin complex in regulating glycogen structure remains with full of gaps. In this review we bring together the disparate body of data on these two proteins and propose a mechanistic hypothesis of the disease in which malin-laforin's role to monitor and prevent over-elongation of glycogen branch chains, which drive glycogen molecules to precipitate and accumulate into Lafora bodies. We also review proposed connections between Lafora bodies and the ensuing neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration and intractable epilepsy. Finally, we review the exciting activities in developing therapies for Lafora disease based on replacing the missing genes, slowing the enzyme - glycogen synthase - that over-elongates glycogen branches, and introducing enzymes that can digest Lafora bodies. **** more work is needed to fill the gaps in glycogen metabolism in which laforin and malin operate. The child was born to a mother presumed to have coronavirus disease 2019. The donor tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and positive for SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin A antibodies. We suspect this is the first known report of its kind and noteworthy for the organ donation and transplantation community.Initial diagnosis of peripheral vestibulopathy requires a detailed history, physical examination, and, in some cases, audiovestibular testing, radiographic imaging, or serology. Among the 4833 physicians who responded regarding SI, 316 (6.5%) reported having suicidal thoughts in the last 12 months. Most physicians (3527 [72.9%]) reported that they would seek professional help if they had a serious emotional problem. Physicians with SI were less likely to report that they would seek help (203/316 [64.2%]) than physicians without SI (3318/4517 [73.5%]; P=.001). To review the available evidence comparing the effectiveness of extraocular muscle botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) injection with eye muscle surgery for restoring ocular alignment in children and adults with nonparalytic, nonrestrictive horizontal strabismus.
Literature searches in the PubMed Cochrane Library, and clinical trial databases with no date restrictions, but limited to articles published in English, were conducted last on January 10, 2021. The searches yielded 515 citations, 40 of which were reviewed in full text by the first author. Fourteen articles met the criteria for inclusion (randomized or nonrandomized comparative studies, or case series with a minimum 50 patients; evaluating extraocular muscle BTXA injection for initial or repeat treatment of horizontal, nonparalytic, nonrestrictive strabismus; with at least 6 months of follow-up) and were graded by a methodologist.
The 14 included studies consisted of 2 randomized clinical trials, 3 nonrandomized comparative studies, and 9 case seriestal strabismus. Good alignment may require multiple BTXA injections, and it is not yet clear whether sensory outcomes are equivalent for BTXA injections versus eye muscle surgery in young children.
Extraocular muscle injection of BTXA achieves a high rate of successful motor alignment, comparable with that achieved after eye muscle surgery for nonparalytic, nonrestrictive horizontal strabismus. Good alignment may require multiple BTXA injections, and it is not yet clear whether sensory outcomes are equivalent for BTXA injections versus eye muscle surgery in young children.
To review the published literature to determine the efficacy and safety of homeopathic agents or vitamins in reducing ecchymosis after oculofacial surgery or laser surgery.
A literature search was conducted in the PubMed database initially in December 2019 and updated in March 2020 to identify all studies in the English language literature on the use of homeopathic agents or vitamins in oculofacial procedures, including laser surgery. The search yielded 124 citations, and 11 articles metall inclusion criteria for this assessment. A panel methodologist then assigned a level of evidence rating for each study. Eleven studies met inclusion criteria; 9 were rated level I, and 2 were rated level III.
The agents studied in the articles identified included oral or topical Arnica montana (AM), oral Melilotus extract, topical vitamin K oxide, and topical AM combined with Rhododendron tomentosum. Metrics to describe ecchymosis varied. In 7 controlled studies, perioperative AM provided no or negligible benefit versus placebo. In 2 studies, vitamin K cream was equivalent to placebo. One study of oral Melilotus extract had less ecchymosis compared with controls in paranasal and eyelid ecchymosis at postoperative day (POD) 7, but not at PODs 1 and 4. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bay-61-3606.html A lone cohort study of combined topical AM and R.tomentosum lacked objective metrics and adequate controls. In this chapter, we discuss the key components of and a framework for the development, implementation and evaluation of a program based on existing literature and our own program. We also review some important barriers to implementation and potential solutions. We hope that this review will serve as a guide for those seeking to develop and implement other new teleneonatology programs.In previous reports large-scale EDTA-based soil washing using ReSoil® technology was demonstrated. In the current study, we established a vegetable garden with nine raised beds (4 × 1 × 0.5 m), three with original (contaminated) soil, three with remediated soil, and three with remediated soil vitalized by addition of vermicompost, earthworms, and rhizosphere inoculum. The garden was managed in 6 rotations between July 2018 and November 2019. Buckwheat was sown first as a green manure followed by spinach, lamb's lettuce, chicory, garlic, onion, leek, lettuce, carrot, kohlrabi and spinach again. Buckwheat growth on the remediated soil was reduced by half. Throughout the gardening process there were no remarkable differences in bulk density, hydraulic conductivity, available water capacity, and aggregate stability of the original and remediated soil. Biomass yield and plant performance, as measured by NDVI, also remained similar regardless of soil treatment. Remediation reduced Pb concentration in edible parts of vegetables from 76 (garlic) to 95% (kohlrabi), Zn concentration from 14 (lettuce) to 76% (first cutting of chicory), and Cd concentration from 33% (carrot) to 91% (leek and second cutting of chicory). The transfer of metals from soil to root and from root to shoot occurred in the order Pb less then Zn less then Cd. The bioconcentration of toxic metals in edible plant parts was generally lower in the remediated soils. Application of ReSoil® technology and growing vegetables that exclude metals, especially Cd, has potential for safe food production on remediated soils. Vitalization had little effect on the properties of the remediated soil.

This occurs thanks to the production of soluble factors including TGF-β1 and IL-18 that, alone or in combination, modify the activating and chemokine receptor repertoire of NK cells, and induce the ILCs differentiation towards cells ineffective in fighting cancer or, even worse, with tumor-promoting functions. The present review aims to present and discuss major inhibitory axes impacting on ILCs functions, migration, and differentiation with a major focus on tumor context. To review the available evidence comparing the effectiveness of extraocular muscle botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) injection with eye muscle surgery for restoring ocular alignment in children and adults with nonparalytic, nonrestrictive horizontal strabismus. Literature searches in the PubMed Cochrane Library, and clinical trial databases with no date restrictions, but limited to articles published in English, were conducted last on January 10, 2021. The searches yielded 515 citations, 40 of which were reviewed in full text by the first author. Fourteen articles met the criteria for inclusion (randomized or nonrandomized comparative studies, or case series with a minimum 50 patients; evaluating extraocular muscle BTXA injection for initial or repeat treatment of horizontal, nonparalytic, nonrestrictive strabismus; with at least 6 months of follow-up) and were graded by a methodologist. The 14 included studies consisted of 2 randomized clinical trials, 3 nonrandomized comparative studies, and 9 case seriestal strabismus. Good alignment may require multiple BTXA injections, and it is not yet clear whether sensory outcomes are equivalent for BTXA injections versus eye muscle surgery in young children. Extraocular muscle injection of BTXA achieves a high rate of successful motor alignment, comparable with that achieved after eye muscle surgery for nonparalytic, nonrestrictive horizontal strabismus. To review the published literature to determine the efficacy and safety of homeopathic agents or vitamins in reducing ecchymosis after oculofacial surgery or laser surgery. A literature search was conducted in the PubMed database initially in December 2019 and updated in March 2020 to identify all studies in the English language literature on the use of homeopathic agents or vitamins in oculofacial procedures, including laser surgery. The search yielded 124 citations, and 11 articles metall inclusion criteria for this assessment. A panel methodologist then assigned a level of evidence rating for each study. Eleven studies met inclusion criteria; 9 were rated level I, and 2 were rated level III. The agents studied in the articles identified included oral or topical Arnica montana (AM), oral Melilotus extract, topical vitamin K oxide, and topical AM combined with Rhododendron tomentosum. Metrics to describe ecchymosis varied. In 7 controlled studies, perioperative AM provided no or negligible benefit versus placebo. In 2 studies, vitamin K cream was equivalent to placebo. In the current study, we established a vegetable garden with nine raised beds (4 × 1 × 0.5 m), three with original (contaminated) soil, three with remediated soil, and three with remediated soil vitalized by addition of vermicompost, earthworms, and rhizosphere inoculum. The garden was managed in 6 rotations between July 2018 and November 2019. Buckwheat was sown first as a green manure followed by spinach, lamb's lettuce, chicory, garlic, onion, leek, lettuce, carrot, kohlrabi and spinach again. Buckwheat growth on the remediated soil was reduced by half. Throughout the gardening process there were no remarkable differences in bulk density, hydraulic conductivity, available water capacity, and aggregate stability of the original and remediated soil. Biomass yield and plant performance, as measured by NDVI, also remained similar regardless of soil treatment. Remediation reduced Pb concentration in edible parts of vegetables from 76 (garlic) to 95% (kohlrabi), Zn concentration from 14 (lettuce) to 76% (first cutting of chicory), and Cd concentration from 33% (carrot) to 91% (leek and second cutting of chicory). The transfer of metals from soil to root and from root to shoot occurred in the order Pb less then Zn less then Cd. It is even more complicated when governments and medical care communities are changing their priorities based on the growing challenges and level of effectiveness of measures taken in other countries. In this study, a potential application of a well-known MCDM method called the Group Best-Worst Method is presented to overcome such challenges and draw the strategies to handle COVID19 outbreak. The methodology is applied to rank the 10 identified strategies based on their relative importance provided by multiple groups of stakeholder. These strategies focus on social distancing, medical care, essential commodities, financial support to poor people, public awareness, overall impact of COVID19, digital surveillance of infected or doubtful people, maintaining the economy of the country, and an effect on industries. Furthermore, the local and global weights along with ranking order of strategies are obtained. A sensitivity analysis has also been done to show the change in global weights and ranking order of strategies.This article examines the history of racism in the American presidency and the implications that it has had for Black residents of this country. The paper begins with a discussion of President Trump's racist rhetoric towards Blacks but notes that a history of racism is woven into the US presidency. We employ critical race theory as a theoretical framework to demonstrate why institutional racism has always been pervasive in the American presidency. Using a case study analysis, the authors conduct a comparative study of the history of racism of American presidents with the presidency of former president Donald J. Trump. The authors conclude that for most of the nation's history, racism and indifference to African Americans permeated the US presidency. It has only been since the advent of the second half of the twentieth century, for the most part, that there have been meaningful efforts by US presidents to address the concerns of African Americans.Deteriorating mental health among university students during the COVID-19 pandemic is a serious worldwide public health concern. This study aims to examine the linkage between social media addiction and mental health of university students in Indonesia and to address whether family relationship and religiosity may mitigate the harmful effects of social media on the mental health of students at this time. We collected data from 709 students at universities across the country between June 3 and June 20, 2020. Mental health was measured using 10 items validated by the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression (CES-D) scale. We found that students with higher social media addiction scores had a greater likelihood of experiencing mild depression (OR 1.07, CI 1.02-1.12). Students who had good relationships with their parents and were more religious showed better mental health than those who had poor relationships with their parents and were less religious. This study suggests the need to mitigate university students' mental health risks through reducing social media addiction while encouraging family relationships and religiosity during the pandemic.The COVID-19 public health pandemic has seen governments spend trillions of dollars to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus as well as to soften the economic blow from the shutting down of national economies. Subsequent budget shortfalls raise the question of how governments will pay for the direct and indirect costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this article, we study the public's willingness to contribute through paying a new tax, with a focus on Canada. We find that both generalized social and political trust are associated with a greater willingness to support a COVID-related tax and that generalized social trust, in particular, attenuates the negative effect of an experimentally manipulated, specified level of tax burden on policy support. These findings entail important implications for the public opinion and tax policies literature, as well as for policy makers.

The onset of extreme social distancing measures is expected to have a dramatic impact on crime. Here, we examine the impact of mandated, city-wide social distancing orders aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 on gang-related crime in Los Angeles. We hypothesize that the unique subcultural processes surrounding gangs may supersede calls to shelter in place and allow gang-related crime to persist. If the normal guardianship of people and property is also disrupted by social distancing, then we expect gang violence to increase. Using autoregressive time series models, we show that gang-related crime remained stable and crime hot spots largely stationary following the onset of shelter in place.
In responding to disruptions to social and economic life on the scale of the present pandemic, both police and civilian organizations need to anticipate continued demand, all while managing potential reductions to workforce. Police are faced with this challenge across a wide array of crime types. Civilian interventionists tasked with responding to gang-related crime need to be prepared for continued peacekeeping and violence interruption activities, but also an expansion of responsibilities to deal with "frontline" or "street-level" management of public health needs.

ISCs between participants' EEG were higher for participants attending to the same story compared to participants attending to different stories. Furthermore, we found that ISCs between individual and group data predicted whether an individual attended to the left or right speech stream. Interestingly, the magnitude of the shared neural response with others attending to the same story was related to the individual neural representation of the attended and ignored speech envelope. Overall, our findings indicate that ISC differences reflect the magnitude of selective attentional engagement to speech.

We performed literature review for DBS on PD and epilepsy in terms of system development by the open loop and closed-loop configuration. This study described development and trends for DBS in terms of electrode, recording, stimulation, and signal processing. The closed-loop DBS system raised a more attention in recent researches.

Directed cortical responses to intracranial electrical stimulation are a good standard for mapping inter-regional direct connectivity. Cortico-cortical evoked potential (CCEP), elicited by single pulse electrical stimulation (SPES), has been widely used to map the normal and abnormal brain effective network. However, automated processing of CCEP datasets and visualization of connectivity results remain challenging for researchers and clinicians. In this study, we develop a Matlab toolbox named MRIES (Mapping the Responses to Intracranial Electrical Stimulation) to automatically process CCEP data and visualize the connectivity results.
The MRIES integrates the processing pipeline of the CCEP datasets and various methods for connectivity calculation based on low- and high-frequency signals with stimulation artifacts removed. The connectivity matrices are saved in different folders for visualization. Different visualization patterns (connectivity matrix, circle map, surface map, and volume map) are also intecessing pipeline of CCEP data and various visualization methods. The MRIES toolbox, tutorial, and example data can be freely downloaded. However, there is limited evidence supporting the routine use of IOM in elective posterolateral lumbar fusion (PLF).
The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) was analyzed for the years 2012-2015 to identify patients undergoing elective PLF with (n=22,404) or without (n=111,168) IOM use. Statistical analyses were conducted to assess the impact of IOM on length of stay, total charges, and development of neurologic complications. These analyses controlled for age, gender, race, income percentile, primary expected payer, number of reported comorbidities, hospital teaching status, and hospital size.
The overall use of IOM in elective PLFs was found to have increased from 14.6% in the year 2012 to 19.3% in 2015. The total charge in hospitalization cost for all patients who received IOM increased from $129,384.72 in 2012 to $146,427.79 in 2015. Overall, the total charge of hospitalization was 11% greater in the IOM group when compared to those patients that did not have IOM (P<0.001). IOM did not have a statistically significant impact on the likelihood of developing a neurological complication.

Bioactive glasses have unique bone forming properties that have been used as a bone graft substitute for anterior cervical discectomy and fusions (ACDFs). Bone graft substitutes are used for achieving fusion while simultaneously avoiding donor site morbidity of iliac crest autograft. In this study, our principal intention is to assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes in patients with multi-level cervical disc disease undergoing ACDF using a third-generation bioactive glass as a bone graft substitute.
A retrospective case series study was performed of patients who underwent primary multi-level instrumented fusions for degenerative cervical disc disease with bioactive glass bone graft substitute between May 2016 and December 2017 by a single fellowship-trained spine surgeon. All patients were treated with a porous PEEK interbody spacer and with a third-generation bioactive glass synthetic bone graft substitute. Patients were assessed pre-operatively, immediately following surgery, and at 3, 6, 12, andent in fusion segment lordosis (Pre-Post and Pre-Final P<0.001), C2-C7 lordosis angle (Pre-Post and Pre-Final P<0.001), T1 slope (Pre-Post P=0.01, Pre-Final P=0.07) and maintenance of disc height (Post-Final P=0.02). There were no adverse events, infections, or reoperations.

Although not as common as respiratory symptoms, a substantial proportion of patients with COVID-19 presented the gastrointestinal symptoms. ACE2, as the receptor of SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, is highly expressed in the epithelia of the epithelium cells in lung and intestine. In addition, ACE2 is essential for the innate immunity, amino acid transportation and the homeostasis of intestinal microecology. The composition of gut microbiota in COVID-19 patients was altered and concordant with inflammatory, which may explain the gastrointestinal symptoms in patients. Here we reviewed and discussed the evolving role for ACE2 and gut microbiota in SARS-CoV-2 infection which might provide innovative approaches to targeting ACE2 and gut microbiota for the COVID-19 therapy.

This study is a qualitative research that was done from May 2019 to June 2020 in Tehran and eight other cities in Iran. This concern is investigated by dividing into four subcategories Education in the shadow of treatment, inefficient education, patient safety versus trusting residents for independent practice, and unstructured assessment.

Social media addiction (SMA) led to the formation of health-threatening behaviors that can have a negative impact on the quality of life and well-being. Many factors can develop an exaggerated tendency to use social media (SM), which can be prevented in most cases. This study aimed to explore the reasons for SMA.
This qualitative study was conducted using content analysis. A total of 18 SM addicted subjects were included through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the Lundman and Graneheim qualitative content analysis method. Weakness in life skills plays an important role in individuals' addiction to SM and formation of the health-threatening behaviors. Since SMA can affect behavioral health, policymakers must adopt educational and preventive programs to increase the knowledge and skills of individuals in different societies in the modern world.

The goal of this study was the determination of the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal sensitivity with quality of work life in nurses working in governmental hospitals of Tehran city in 2019.
This investigation was a descriptive-analytical and correlation study which was conducted among 256 nurses working in five governmental hospitals in Tehran. The studied nurses were selected through in access sampling method. The instruments of research included demographic, emotional intelligence, interpersonal sensitivity, and work life quality questionnaires.
