Because it is difficult to distinguish the two emotions in self-report assessment by directly addressing the specific emotions, a text paragraph-based interpretation bias paradigm was applied to more implicitly assess emotions. For the text-based interpretation bias paradigm, disgust-related, fear-related, disgust-fear-ambiguous and neutral text paragraphs describing everyday life situations were developed and validated in a pre-study (N = 205). Fifty-nine healthy participants watched either disgust- or fear-inducing movies and afterwards rated their experienced emotional response to the text paragraphs. The results show that fear and disgust components of an emotional response to mixed-emotional situations are strongly influenced by the situational context, and across the levels of trait contamination fear people did not differ in their fear experiences to everyday situations (which was overall strong), but in their disgust experiences. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to identify the optimal cut-off skull HU values for predicting SDHC in patients receiving cranioplasty after DC due to traumatic acute SDH. We investigated independent predictive factors for SDHC occurrence using multivariable logistic regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 162 patients (>15 years of age) were enrolled in the study over an 11-year period from two university hospitals. Multivariable logistic analysis revealed that the group with simultaneous frontal skull HU ≤797.4 and internal occipital protuberance HU ≤586.5 (odds ratio, 8.57; 95% CI, 3.05 to 24.10; P less then 0.001) was the only independent predictive factor for SDHC in patients who received cranioplasty after DC for traumatic acute SDH. CONCLUSIONS Our study reveals a potential relationship between possible low bone mineral density and development of SDHC in traumatic acute SDH patients who had undergone DC. Our findings provide deeper insight into the association between low bone mineral density and hydrocephalus after DC for traumatic acute SDH.Ebb-and-flow subirrigation systems are highly efficient, water-saving and environmentally friendly. In summer, the predominant genera in the nutrient solution included Comamonas, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Reyranella, Sphingobium, Bradyrhizobium, Sphingomonas, and Acidovorax. Such porous Au@Rh core-shell nanostructures are expected to exhibit catalase-like activity to efficiently catalyze oxygen generation from endogenous hydrogen peroxide in tumors. Coating Au@Rh nanostructures with tumor cell membrane (CM) enables tumor targeting via homologous binding. As a result of the large pores of Rh shells and the trapping ability of CM, the photosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG) is successfully loaded and retained in the cavity of Au@Rh-CM. Au@Rh-ICG-CM shows good biocompatibility, high tumor accumulation, and superior fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging properties. Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrate that Au@Rh-ICG-CM is able to effectively convert endogenous hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and then elevate the production of tumor-toxic singlet oxygen to significantly enhance PDT. As noted, the mild photothermal effect of Au@Rh-ICG-CM also improves PDT efficacy. The cytotoxicity and cellular damage to the peptide are investigated and the receptor-mediated transcytosis and brain endothelial specific penetrating abilities of the peptides in a quantitative manner are demonstrated. As a preclinical test, applying the quantification assays conducted in this study are suggested, including the penetrating ability, cytotoxicity, endothelial damage, and receptor specificity. METHODS Costs included healthcare service utilisation, pharmaceutical use, caregiver productivity losses and time spent providing care because of the child's disability. The sample comprised caregivers with a child with ID aged between 2 and 10 years old recruited in Australia. Healthcare service utilisation and pharmaceutical use were obtained from routinely collected administrative claims data.   • PURPOSE To provide more data on the clinical presentation and natural evolution of facial nerve schwannomas and to provide guidance for therapeutic decision making. METHODS A retrospective case review of eighty patients diagnosed with a facial nerve schwannoma between 1990 and 2018 in ten tertiary referral centers in Europe was performed. Patients' demographics, symptomatology, audiometry, anatomical site (segments involved), size and whenever possible volume measurement were registered. RESULTS At presentation, transient or persistent facial palsy was the most common symptom, followed by hearing loss. The schwannoma involved more than one segment in the majority of the patients with the geniculate ganglion being most commonly involved. Initial treatment consisted of a wait and scan approach in 67.5%, surgery in 30% and radiation therapy in 2.5% of the patients. Tympanic segment schwannomas caused mainly conductive hearing loss and were more prone to develop facial palsy at follow-up. Internal auditory canal or cerebellopontine angle schwannomas presented with significantly more sensorineural hearing loss. CONCLUSIONS Although modern imaging has improved diagnosis of this tumor, choosing the best treatment modality remains a real challenge. Based on the literature review and current findings, more insights into the clinical course and the management of facial nerve schwannomas are provided.BACKGROUND The poor outcomes in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) necessitate new treatments. AT7519 is a potent inhibitor of several cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and is currently in the early phase of clinical development for cancer treatment. It also inhibits growth of a subpopulation of cells with highly proliferative and invasive features. Importantly, AT7519 acts synergistically with cisplatin and is effective against chemo-resistant NPC cells. Predictive models were constructed using random forest (RF) method, and were validated using leave group out cross-validation (LGOCV) method. Diagnostic performance of the predictive model, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predicting value (PPV), and negative predicting value (NPV), was recorded. RESULTS We applied 200% of SMOTE to MFP and PDAC patients, resulting in 90 MFP patients compared with 120 PDAC patients. Dimension reduction steps yielded 30 radiomic features using Mann-Whitney U test and MRMR methods. Ten radiomic features were retained using RF method. Four most predictive parameters, including GreyLevelNonuniformity_angle90_offset1, VoxelValueSum, HaraVariance, and ClusterProminence_AllDirection_offset1_SD, were used to generate the predictive model with preferable 92.2% sensitivity, 94.2% specificity, 93.3% accuracy, 92.2% PPV, and 94.2% NPV. Finally, in LGOCV analysis, a high pooled mean sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy (82.6%, 80.8%, and 82.1%, respectively) indicate a relatively reliable and stable predictive model. CONCLUSIONS Unenhanced CT texture analysis can be a promising noninvasive method in discriminating MFP from PDAC.A 13-year-old male with Down syndrome, pseudophakic secondary to congenital cataract presented with esotropia.     PURPOSE To provide more data on the clinical presentation and natural evolution of facial nerve schwannomas and to provide guidance for therapeutic decision making. METHODS A retrospective case review of eighty patients diagnosed with a facial nerve schwannoma between 1990 and 2018 in ten tertiary referral centers in Europe was performed. Patients' demographics, symptomatology, audiometry, anatomical site (segments involved), size and whenever possible volume measurement were registered. RESULTS At presentation, transient or persistent facial palsy was the most common symptom, followed by hearing loss. The schwannoma involved more than one segment in the majority of the patients with the geniculate ganglion being most commonly involved. Initial treatment consisted of a wait and scan approach in 67.5%, surgery in 30% and radiation therapy in 2.5% of the patients. Tympanic segment schwannomas caused mainly conductive hearing loss and were more prone to develop facial palsy at follow-up. Internal auditory canal or cerebellopontine angle schwannomas presented with significantly more sensorineural hearing loss. CONCLUSIONS Although modern imaging has improved diagnosis of this tumor, choosing the best treatment modality remains a real challenge. Harvesting broad spectral absorption and visible light photocatalysis of ultrawide bandgap semiconductors are one of most significative topics in the solar energy conversion and utilization fields. In this work, amorphous Cl-Ta2O5-x microspheres were prepared by facile solvothermal method for stabilized visible light photocatalytic hydrogen generation. The acetone absorbed on the interfaces of Ta2O5 nanoparticles induced the formation of oxygen vacancies, enhanced visible light absorption, and formation of Ta2O5-x microspheres with preferred orientations as well as Cl doping. The Cl-Ta2O5-x microspheres showed typical amorphous characteristics and obvious visible light absorption in comparison to those of commercial Ta2O5. More importantly, the prepared Cl-Ta2O5-x microspheres also showed stabilized visible light photocatalytic hydrogen generation performance in the spectral regions of 400 nm ≤ λ ≤ 600 nm mainly because of the introduction of oxygen vacancy defects and Cl doping, which might significantly expand the application of tantalum oxide semiconductors in the broad spectral photocatalytic water splitting. Poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(butylmethacrylate) (PEO-b-PBMA) copolymers have recently been identified as excellent building blocks for the synthesis of hierarchical nanoporous materials. Nevertheless, while experiments have unveiled their potential to form bicontinuous phases and vesicles, a general picture of their phase and aggregation behavior is still missing. By performing Molecular Dynamics simulations, we here apply our recent coarse-grained model of PEO-b-PBMA to investigate its self-assembly in water and tetrahydrofuran (THF) and unveil the occurrence of a wide spectrum of mesophases. In particular, we find that the morphological phase diagram of this ternary system incorporates bicontinuous and lamellar phases at high copolymer concentrations, and finite-size aggregates, such as dispersed sheets or disk-like aggregates, spherical vesicles and rod-like vesicles, at low copolymer concentrations. The morphology of these mesophases can be controlled by tuning the THF/water relative content, which has a striking effect on the kinetics of self-assembly as well as on the resulting equilibrium structures. Our results disclose the fascinating potential of PEO-b-PBMA copolymers for the templated synthesis of nanostructured materials and offer a guideline to fine-tune their properties by accurately selecting the THF/water ratio. High impulsivity characterizes a myriad of neuropsychiatric diseases, and identifying targets for neuropharmacological intervention to reduce impulsivity could reveal transdiagnostic treatment strategies. Motor impulsivity (impulsive action) reflects in part the failure of "top-down" executive control by the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). The present study profiled the complete set of mRNA molecules expressed from genes (transcriptome) in the mPFC of male, outbred rats stably expressing high (HI) or low (LI) motor impulsivity based upon premature responses in the 1-choice serial reaction time (1-CSRT) task. RNA-sequencing identified expression of 18 genes that was higher in the mPFC of HI vs. LI rats. Functional gene enrichment revealed that biological processes related to calcium homeostasis and G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathways, particularly glutamatergic, were overrepresented in the mPFC of HI vs. LI rats. Transcription factor enrichment identified mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 (SMAD4) and RE1 silencing transcription factor (REST) as overrepresented in the mPFC of HI rats relative to LI rats, while in silico analysis predicted a conserved SMAD binding site within the voltage-gated calcium channel subunit alpha1 E (CACNA1E) promoter region. qRT-PCR analyses confirmed that mRNA expression of CACNA1E, as well as expression of leucyl and cystinyl aminopeptidase (LNPEP), were higher in the mPFC of HI vs. LI rats. A pharmacogenetics-trained pharmacist encouraged primary care physicians (PCPs) to refer patients who were experiencing side effects/ineffectiveness from certain antidepressants, opioids, and/or proton pump inhibitors. In clinic, the pharmacist confirmed the need for and ordered CYP2C19 and/or CYP2D6 testing, provided evidence-based pharmacogenetic recommendations to PCPs, and educated PCPs and patients on the results. Operational and clinical metrics were analyzed. In two years, 91 referred patients were seen in clinic (mean age 57, 67% women, 91% European-American). We find that HMGB1 is required for the proliferation and differentiation of neuronal stem cells/progenitor cells. Enhanced apoptosis is also found in the neuronal cells lacking HMGB1. The effect of ASE incorporation on the morphological, structural, colour, mechanical, thermal, barrier and antioxidant properties of the prepared films were evaluated.   • Chronic pain and depression are highly comorbid and difficult-to-treat disorders. We previously showed this comorbidity is associated with higher depression severity, lower antidepressant treatment effectiveness and poorer prognosis in the Australian Genetics of Depression Study.

    The current study aimed to assess whether a genetic liability to chronic pain is associated with antidepressant effectiveness over and above the effect of genetic factors for depression in a sample of 12,863 Australian Genetics of Depression Study participants.

    Polygenic risk scores were calculated using summary statistics from genome-wide association studies of multisite chronic pain and major depression. Cumulative linked regressions were employed to assess the association between polygenic risk scores and antidepressant treatment effectiveness across 10 different medications.

    Mixed-effects logistic regressions showed that individual genetic propensity for chronic pain, but not major depression, was significantly associateddence from other studies, point towards a difficult-to-treat depression subtype characterised by comorbid chronic pain. Algorithm performance was tested in 198 disease profiles by means of sensitivity and specificity.

    Twelve experts completed the Delphi process, and consensus was reached in 19/24 (79.2%) items for schizophrenia spectrum disorders and 17/24 (70.8%) for secondary schizophrenia spectrum disorders. We assigned rounded values to each item category according to their predictive potential.     We conducted this systematic review in accordance with the PRISMA statement. Only randomised controlled trials with adult breast cancer survivors were included. We assessed the methodological quality of the studies using the PEDro scale and the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We synthesised evidence using the GRADE tool.

    We included 14 studies (PEDro 4-8 points) comprising 1749 adult women who survived breast cancer, of which we included 12 in the quantitative analysis. There were statistically significant short-term benefits for improved global quality-of-life (standardised mean difference [SMD] = 0.43,
     = 0.05, 95% CI [0.00, 0.85]; GRADE low certainty; not important), emotional quality-of-life (SMD = 0.32,

We are reporting one such case in a patient with pituitary macroadenoma with extension of the adenomatous goiter into the posterior mediastinum. It was removed through the cervical collar incision using a vessel sealing device. There were no intraoperative and postoperative complications during the procedure. The need for extra cervical incision should be decided on a case-to-case basis to avoid the increased morbidity associated with sternotomy and lateral thoracotomy incision.

Methods A cohort of 340 patients with CRC who underwent surgical resection and another group of 340 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study and analyzed for their rs664589 genotypes. In addition, quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression levels of the lncRNA MALAT1 and the hsa-miR-194-5p in cancer tissues and paracancerous normal tissues of CRC patients. Results The risk of CRC in subjects carrying the G allele at the rs664589 locus in the 3' untranslated region of the MALAT1 gene was 1.81 times higher than for C allele carriers. The expression levels of the lncRNA MALAT1 in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues, while the hsa-miR-194-5p expression level was significantly lower in cancerous tissues compared to cognate paracancerous tissues. METHODS We performed a review of the available literature in PubMed and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Data from included studies were categorized according to treatment method and analyzed with respect to functional outcome and complication rate. RESULTS In total, 1420 abstracts were reviewed, of which 72 articles containing 3523 patients met inclusion criteria. Within the 72 studies included, 6 operative techniques and 19 nonoperative treatments were evaluated. CONCLUSION A wide variety of treatments are available for noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy, although newer treatments and most operative methods lack high-level evidence. MAIN MEASURES The primary outcome measure was dynamic balance evaluated using the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test. Secondary outcomes included the balance confidence assessed with the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale and standing balance assessed by the maximal excursion of center of pressure during the Modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction on Balance and the Limits of Stability test. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the rs664589 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and the risk and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the Chinese Han population. Methods A cohort of 340 patients with CRC who underwent surgical resection and another group of 340 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study and analyzed for their rs664589 genotypes. In addition, quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression levels of the lncRNA MALAT1 and the hsa-miR-194-5p in cancer tissues and paracancerous normal tissues of CRC patients. Results The risk of CRC in subjects carrying the G allele at the rs664589 locus in the 3' untranslated region of the MALAT1 gene was 1.81 times higher than for C allele carriers. The expression levels of the lncRNA MALAT1 in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues, while the hsa-miR-194-5p expression level was significantly lower in cancerous tissues compared to cognate paracancerous tissues. The progression-free survival (PFS) rate for patients with the MALAT1 gene rs664589 locus GG genotype was significantly lower than that of CG genotype patients. In addition, analysis of the glycoproteome expressed by the isogenic recombinant Mtb strain overexpressing the PMTub gene revealed an unexpected mannosylation of proteins, with predicted or demonstrated functions in Mtb growth and interaction with the host cell. Since in parallel, a transient increased expression of the PMTub gene has been observed in the wild-type bacilli when infecting macrophages, our results strongly suggest that the Mtb mannoproteome may undergo adaptive regulation during infection of the host cells. The sample consisted of 16 PwMS (mean age 50.3 years; median Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) 5.5) who completed questionnaires covering subjective sleep (symptoms of insomnia, restless legs syndrome (RLS) and sleep-disordered breathing), as well as daytime sleepiness, subjective physical activity, depression, and MS-related information (fatigue, EDSS; disease-modifying treatments). Objective sleep was assessed with a mobile sleep-EEG device under naturalist conditions within the home. Descriptively, better objective sleep patterns were associated with lower sleep complaints (rs = -0.51) and daytime sleepiness (rs = -0.43), and with lower symptoms of RLS (rs = -0.35), but not with sleep-disordered breathing (rs = -0.17). More deep sleep was associated with higher moderate physical activity levels (rs = 0.56). Objective sleep parameters were not associated with vigorous physical activity levels (rs less then 0.25). Descriptively, moderate and vigorous physical activity scores were associated with lower symptoms of RLS (rs = -0.43 to -0.47). Methods Human induced pluripotent stem cells were differentiated to alveolar type II-like cells and characterized. Lung fibrosis was induced in rats by a single intratracheal instillation of bleomycin. Animals were transplanted with human induced pluripotent stem cells differentiated to alveolar type II-like cells at a dose of 3 × 106 cells/animal 15 days after endotracheal bleomycin instillation when the animal lungs were already fibrotic. Animals were sacrificed 21 days after the induction of lung fibrosis. Lung fibrosis was assessed by hydroxiprolin content, histologic studies, and the expression of transforming growth factor-β and α-smooth muscle actin. Results Cell transplantation of alveolar type II-like cells differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells can significantly reduce pulmonary fibrosis and improve lung alveolar structure, once fibrosis has already formed. Methods Human induced pluripotent stem cells were differentiated to alveolar type II-like cells and characterized. Lung fibrosis was induced in rats by a single intratracheal instillation of bleomycin. Animals were transplanted with human induced pluripotent stem cells differentiated to alveolar type II-like cells at a dose of 3 × 106 cells/animal 15 days after endotracheal bleomycin instillation when the animal lungs were already fibrotic. Animals were sacrificed 21 days after the induction of lung fibrosis. Lung fibrosis was assessed by hydroxiprolin content, histologic studies, and the expression of transforming growth factor-β and α-smooth muscle actin. Results Cell transplantation of alveolar type II-like cells differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells can significantly reduce pulmonary fibrosis and improve lung alveolar structure, once fibrosis has already formed. This is associated with the inhibition of transforming growth factor-β and α-smooth muscle actin in the damaged rat lung tissue. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first data to demonstrate that at the fibrotic stage of the disease, intratracheal transplantation of human induced pluripotent differentiated to alveolar type II-like cells halts and reverses fibrosis.Lung lipid metabolism participates both in infant and adult pulmonary disease. The lung is composed by multiple cell types with specialized functions and coordinately acting to meet specific physiologic requirements. The alveoli are the niche of the most active lipid metabolic cell in the lung, the type 2 cell (T2C). T2C synthesize surfactant lipids that are an absolute requirement for respiration, including dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine. After its synthesis and secretion into the alveoli, surfactant is recycled by the T2C or degraded by the alveolar macrophages (AM). Surfactant biosynthesis and recycling is tightly regulated, and dysregulation of this pathway occurs in many pulmonary disease processes. Alveolar lipids can participate in the development of pulmonary disease from their extracellular location in the lumen of the alveoli, and from their intracellular location in T2C or AM. External insults like smoke and pollution can disturb surfactant homeostasis and result in either surfactant insufficiency or accumulation. But disruption of surfactant homeostasis is also observed in many chronic adult diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and others. Sustained damage to the T2C is one of the postulated causes of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and surfactant homeostasis is disrupted during fibrotic conditions. Similarly, surfactant homeostasis is impacted during acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and infections. Bioactive lipids like eicosanoids and sphingolipids also participate in chronic lung disease and in respiratory infections. We review the most recent knowledge on alveolar lipids and their essential metabolic and signaling functions during homeostasis and during some of the most commonly observed pulmonary diseases.Background Systems thinking is a conceptual approach that can assist stakeholders in understanding complexity and making progress on persistent public health challenges. The interview data were coded and analysed to create causal loop diagrams that resulted in a qualitative model of the global NTD system. Results The complete qualitative model is discussed and presented visually as six separate sub-components that highlight key forces and feedback loops within the global NTD system.

For conduct, two-stage and one-stage statistical models are described, and we recommend (i) interactions should be estimated directly, and not by calculating differences in meta-analysis results for subgroups; (ii) interaction estimates should be based solely on within-study information; (iii) continuous covariates and outcomes should be analyzed on their continuous scale; (iv) nonlinear relationships should be examined for continuous covariates, using a multivariate meta-analysis of the trend (eg, using restricted cubic spline functions); and (v) translation of interactions into clinical practice is nontrivial, requiring individualized treatment effect prediction. MEASUREMENTS Data were extracted on plasma levels of ionized calcium (P-Ca2+ ) and doses of active vitamin D and calcium supplements during pregnancy (N=14) and breastfeeding (N=10). Data on pregnancy complications were available from all 17 pregnancies. RESULTS Although average doses of active vitamin D (p=0.91) and calcium supplements (p=0.43) did not change during pregnancies, a more than 20% increase or decrease in dose of active vitamin D was needed in more than half of the pregnancies in order to maintain normocalcemia. The genome-wide cfDNA screening results and the subsequent investigations were reviewed. RESULTS Three singleton pregnancies (3/29007) from 2016-2017 yielded positive results involving chromosome 12 indicating large gains on the entire p-arm of chromosome 12. In two cases, multiple structural abnormalities were detected by prenatal ultrasound and the couples opted for termination of pregnancy. Chromosomal microarray performed on fetal skin tissues of the two abortuses detected mosaic tetrasomy 12p, consistent with Pallister-Killian syndrome. In the third case, karyotype and chromosomal microarray performed on amniotic fluid samples also showed mosaic tetrasomy 12p. In each of the three cases, genome-wide cfDNA screening revealed a large gain on chromosome 12p; subsequent prenatal or postnatal diagnostic testing confirmed the diagnosis of Pallister-Killian syndrome.

  • Idebenone (IDE), a synthetic analogue of coenzyme Q10, is able to inhibit lipid peroxidation and detoxify several free radicals. However, because of its poor solubility, it requires ad hoc drug-delivery systems for enhancing its pharmacokinetic properties, preventing undesired cytotoxicity. In this work, NLCs loaded with idebenone (IDE-NLCs) have been prepared. The nanovectors have been physicochemically characterized, and their biological activity has been evaluated on different central nervous system cell lines. IDE-NLCs demonstrated to be stable in water and in cell culture media, and showed a sustained drug release profile. Interestingly, preliminary data demonstrated their ability to permeate an in vitro BBB model. In this work, a model molecule PSB-1 was synthesized based on this highly planar fragment and used as a photosensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs), then different aromatic amine donors such as triphenylamine (TPA), carbazole (CZ), and phenothiazine (PTZ) were introduced to the end of PSB-1, and a series of dyes PSB-2, PSB-3, and PSB-4 were designed and synthesized. After that, the relationship among the molecular structure, energy level, and photovoltaic performance of the benzo-[1,2-b4,5-b']dithiophene (BDT) dye was studied by theoretical calculations, photophysics, electrochemistry, and photovoltaic properties. The results show that the introduction of a strong donor can effectively improve the energy level, absorption spectrum, and photovoltaic performance of PSB-1. Through the preliminary test, we found that the energy conversion efficiency (photovoltaic conversion efficiency-PCE) of PSB-4 is up to 5.5%, which is nearly 90% higher than that of PSB-1 (PCE = 2.9%), while the introduction of a weak donor greatly weakens the effect, in which the PCE of PSB-3 is 3.5%, which is only 20% higher than that of the model molecule. By an analysis of the molecular frontier orbital distribution using theoretical calculations, we found that the electron cloud of the highest occupied orbital level (highest occupied molecular orbital-HOMO) of PSB-3 is mainly distributed on the BDF group so that the electron transfer of excited-state molecules mainly occurs from the BDF to the receptor (CA).Simultaneous improvement in the mechanical properties and lifetime of polymer nanocomposites is crucially significant to further extend the versatility of polymer materials and reduce environmental impact. In this study, we fabricated reinforced polypropylene (PP)-based nanocomposites with improved aging stability by the addition of surface-modified well-ordered silica nanospheres with a silane coupling agent (SCA) containing hindered phenol antioxidant as a filler. Uniform grafting of the SCA on the filler surface contributed to homogeneous dispersion of the filler into the matrix, leading to improved properties (e.g., stiffness and ductility) and uniform distribution of the antioxidant component into the entire nanocomposite by filler dispersion. The grafting of SCA also likely provides an inhibitory effect on antioxidant migration, which leads to loss of polymer stability during the aging process. This novel idea for the material design of PP-based nanocomposites, which simultaneously enhances their mechanical properties and lifetime, is promising for application in the fabrication of various types of polymer nanocomposites.Transparent thin films comprising ultralong (within the range 52-387 μm) copper nanowires with diameter ∼7-9 nm encapsulated in amorphous silica have been successfully fabricated using an electrodeposition technique. The length and number density were controlled by electrodeposition time and concentration of precursor materials, respectively. Giant dielectric constant values (∼1010) obtained from these systems were quantitatively explained as a function of the length of the nanowires on the basis of quantum mechanical theory derived by Rice and Bernasconi. These transparent thin films offer a specific capacitance value of 550 F/g with more than 73% cyclic stability over a period of 900 cycles. Our findings demonstrate a facile pathway to control and improve the properties of metal nanowire-based transparent materials for use in supercapacitor applications.Fast thermal response and sensitivity of organic latent heat storage materials with inherent low thermal conductivity to external temperatures is still a challenge in their practical applications. Herein, a shape-stable heat storage material composite, composed of interconnected netlike graphene, hexadecane, and commonly used high-density polyethylene (HDPE), was obtained using a convenient melt blending method. The start melting temperature, melting temperature, and end melting temperature of the obtained shape-stabilized thermal storage materials are presented, indicating that the response rate of the composites to ambient temperature could be indeed increased. This is because the interconnected netlike graphene with high conductivity intercalated into the HDPE matrix provided many conductive pathways for heat transfer. Therefore, the thermal conductivity of the composites is increased to 0.67 W/(m·K), which is about 123% higher than that of pure hexadecane. Meanwhile, the structure of polyethylene and hexadecane is similar, and hexadecane is uniformly dispersed in polyethylene and perfectly combined with polyethylene, which can effectively prevent the leakage of hexadecane during the phase transition. Thus, the obtained composites may play an important role in thermal management applications such as heat collection, transportation, thermal power conversion, and so forth.

Meanwhile, the structure of polyethylene and hexadecane is similar, and hexadecane is uniformly dispersed in polyethylene and perfectly combined with polyethylene, which can effectively prevent the leakage of hexadecane during the phase transition. Thus, the obtained composites may play an important role in thermal management applications such as heat collection, transportation, thermal power conversion, and so forth.
