Currently, the coronavirus crisis is leading many parts of the world to look critically at how they organize their supply chains, especially where public safety or strategic sectors are concerned. In September, the European Commission (EC) released its "Action Plan on Critical Raw Materials," the "2020 List of Critical Raw Materials," and a foresight study on critical raw materials for strategic technologies and sectors from the 2030 and 2050 perspectives. The Action Plan looks at the current and future challenges and proposes actions to reduce Europe's dependency on third countries, diversifying supply from both primary and secondary sources, and improving resource efficiency and circularity while promoting responsible sourcing worldwide.Shortages of masks, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ventilators characterized the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in the United States. As supply deficiencies strained healthcare systems across the country, national attention focused on the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), overseen by the US Department of Health & Human Services-specifically, its inability to significantly alleviate rapidly deteriorating conditions in hospitals. While nominally a "stockpile," the SNS does not possess, operate, or restock a vast system of federally owned warehouses filled with enough medical equipment to weather a crisis. Instead, as summarized in a June 2020 **** Corporation report and testimony to the US Congress, the program is primarily a logistics service that coordinates the flow of materials between state and local entities, and its own small stockpile was quickly overwhelmed by the demands of the pandemic.This study examined the effects of using behavioral skills training (BST) to teach peer models to engage students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities in interactive play. Two separate multiple-baseline across participants designs were used to determine the effectiveness of BST on the peer models' implementation of the procedural steps and the target students' percent of intervals engaged in interactive play. Results demonstrated that BST was functionally related to the peer models' accurate implementation of procedures and the target students' percentage of intervals engaged in interactive play. In addition, all participants demonstrated generalization to novel activities and play partners, and three of the four target students maintained high levels of interactive play for up to 13 weeks after intervention.Governments worldwide have taken unprecedented social distancing and community lockdown measures to halt the COVID-19 epidemic, leaving millions of people restrained in locked-down communities and their mental well-being at risk. This study examines Chinese rural residents' mental health risk under emergency lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. It investigates how the environmental, socioeconomic, and behavioral dimensions of community support affect mental health in this emergency context. We also explore whether community support's effectiveness depends on the strictness of lockdown measures implemented and the level of individual perceived COVID-19 infection risk. We collect self-reported mental health risk, community support, and demographics information through a cross-sectional survey of 3892 Chinese rural residents living in small towns and villages. Ordinary least square regressions are employed to estimate the psychological effects of community support. The results suggest that the COVID-19 epidemic and lockdown policies negatively affect psychological well-being, especially for rural females. The capacity for community production has the largest impact on reducing mental health risks, followed by the stability of basic medical services, community cohesion, housing condition, the stability of communications and transportation supply, and the eco-environment. The effectiveness of different community support dimensions depends on the level of lockdown policy implemented and the levels of one's perceived risk of COVID-19 infection. Women with disabilities have the same rights as women without disabilities to prevent unintended pregnancy, yet little is known about their experiences in accessing family planning methods.
This qualitative descriptive study explored perceptions of barriers to effective family planning services among women with disabilities.
Semi-structured, open-ended interviews were conducted with 31 women with diverse disabilities as part of a larger study investigating risks and facilitators of unintended pregnancy among women with disabilities across the United States.
Analysis revealed multiple barriers experienced by women with disabilities in accessing effective family planning services needed to prevent unintended pregnancy. Barriers included physical or system barriers, financial limitations, and nonresponsive healthcare providers. Women also identified difficulties in finding appropriate family planning methods, both related and unrelated to disability.
This is the first in-depth exploration of barriers to accessing family planning services and challenges to finding effective family planning options among women with disabilities. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions, improved provider training, and policy changes to optimize reproductive healthcare, improve access to family planning services, and prevent unintended pregnancy among women of childbearing age with diverse disabilities.

Aseptic loosening and periprosthetic osteolysis are frequent complications in total hip arthroplasty requiring revision surgery. Highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE) implants have improved wear resistance, permitting larger femoral heads. However, such implants may experience surface cracking, mechanical failure, and oxidative damage. Vitamin E-infused HXLPE (VEPE) implants were therefore developed to reduce oxidation without compromising mechanical strength. We addressed the following questions (1) Does femoral head size affect the midterm annual polyethylene wear rates of VEPE acetabular cups? (2) Does femoral head size affect the midterm migration rates of VEPE acetabular cups? (3) Are clinical outcomes affected by femoral head size?
Annual wear rate, migration rate, and clinical outcomes of VEPE acetabular cups are independent of femoral head size.
This was a prospective, multicentre, observational study of patients that underwent total hip arthroplasty. Hips were grouped according to the size og to osteolysis and aseptic loosening. Nevertheless, studies with extended follow-up periods will be necessary to confirm these results in the long term.

The diagnostic accuracy of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) for prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis has been extensively explored. Little is known about the prognostic value of mpMRI suspicion scores and other quantitative mpMRI information.
To systematically review the current literature assessing the relationship between pretreatment mpMRI and oncological outcomes after primary treatment for PCa to assess the role of mpMRI as a prognostic tool.
A computerized bibliographic search of MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library CENTRAL databases was performed for all studies assessing the relationship between mpMRI and oncological outcomes after primary treatment for PCa. The review protocol is registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42020209899).
A total of six studies were included. Reliable evidence is still limited in this field. The Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) score was an independent predictor of biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP) in the majority of the studies included. The review shows that PI-RADS scores provide information on the future likelihood of cancer recurrence or progression, at least for men undergoing RP. We are of the view that this information should be taken into account to identify men at higher risk of unfavorable outcomes.

Selection of patients for upfront cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN) in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (****) has to be improved.
To evaluate a new scoring system for the prediction of overall mortality (OM) in **** patients undergoing CN.
We identified a total of 519 patients with synchronous **** undergoing CN between 2005 and 2019 from a multi-institutional registry (Registry for Metastatic RCC [REMARCC]).
Cox proportional hazard regression was used to test the main predictors of OM. Restricted mean survival time was estimated as a measure of the average overall survival time up to 36 mo of follow-up. The concordance index (C-index) was used to determine the model's discrimination. Decision curve analyses were used to compare the net benefit from the REMARCC model with International **** Database Consortium (IMDC) or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) risk scores.
The median follow-up period was 18 mo (interquartile range 5.9-39.7). Our models showed lower mortality rates in obese patienernal validations are required for the scoring system proposed herein.

The PPVs of acute myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke were low only by diagnosis (81.6% [95% CI 72.5-88.7]; 31.0% [95% CI 22.8-40.3]; and 45.5% [95% CI 34.1-57.2], respectively); however, the PPVs were elevated after adding the prescription and procedure data (87.0% [95% CI 78.3-93.1]; 44.4% [95% CI 32.7-56.6]; and 46.1% [95% CI 34.5-57.9], respectively). When we added event-specific prescription and procedure data to the algorithms, the PPVs for each event increased to 70%-98%, with apparent sensitivities exceeding 50%. Western blot and real-time PCR assays demonstrated that the expression levels of RhoA and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) were correlated with rmGDF-5 concentration. Furthermore, we found that rmGDF-5 stimulated mouse EpSC migration in vitro by regulating MMP9 expression at the mRNA and protein levels through the RhoA signalling pathway. Pan-endothelial cell markers, organ specific endothelial antigens, and flow cytometric immunophenotyping of blood-borne endothelial cells are reviewed.Chimeric peptides containing short sequences derived from bovine Lactoferricin (LfcinB) and Buforin II (BFII) were synthetized using solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) and characterized via reversed-phase liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. For each strain, the chimera with the best antibacterial activity exerted a bacteriostatic and/or bactericidal effect, which was dependent on the concentration. It was found that (i) the antibacterial activity of a chimera is mainly influenced by the linked sequences, the palindromic motif RLLRRLLR being the most relevant one; (ii) the inclusion of a spacer between the short sequences did not significantly affect the chimera's synthesis process; however, it enhanced its antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains; on the other hand, (iii) the replacement of Arg with Lys in the LfcinB or BFII sequences improved the chimeras' synthesis process without significantly affecting their antibacterial activity. These results illustrate the great importance of the synthesis of chimeric peptides for the generation of promising antibacterial peptides.
von Willebrand disease (vWD) is a common inherited bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency in von Willebrand factor (vWF), but many laboratories and clinicians continue to struggle with diagnosing or excluding vWD. Its diagnosis requires laboratory testing, which may be compromised by preanalytical events, including poor specimen quality. This study assessed 17 different preanalytical conditions as potential causes of vWD misdiagnosis.
Specimens from healthy controls (N=21) were obtained. vWF antigen and vWF activity were analyzed using a newly developed automatic coagulation analyzer according to various preanalytic conditions such as centrifugation conditions, storage room temperature before centrifugation, cold storage temperature after centrifugation, thawing conditions, and inadequate mixing of thawed citrated plasma following the recommendations of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) H21-A5 guidelines.

Western blot and real-time PCR assays demonstrated that the expression levels of RhoA and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) were correlated with rmGDF-5 concentration. Furthermore, we found that rmGDF-5 stimulated mouse EpSC migration in vitro by regulating MMP9 expression at the mRNA and protein levels through the RhoA signalling pathway. Recent studies demonstrated that homologous repair deficiency (HRD) score is a useful marker for response to poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors or platinum-based chemotherapy. We determined HRD scores and elucidated the clinicopathologic characteristics of HRD-high tumors and their response to non-platinum-based chemotherapy. Primary breast cancer patients (n = 120) were pre-operatively treated with paclitaxel followed by 5-fluorouracil/epirubicin/cyclophosphamide (P-FEC). Germline and somatic homologous recombination related gene mutations (gHRRm and sHRRm, respectively) and HRD scores were analyzed using whole exome sequencing (WES) in tumor tissues obtained before chemotherapy. Of 120 tumors, 30 were determined to be HRD-high tumors, significantly associated with high Ki-67 (P = 0.014), ER negativity (P = 0.007), and PR negativity (P = 0.021). Triple-negative cancers showed significantly higher HRD scores than the luminal, luminal-HER2, and HER2 subtypes (P = 0.023, 0.016, and 0.033, respectively). HRD scores were significantly higher in tumors with gHRRm than in those with sHRRm (P = 0.002) or wild-type HRR genes (P = 1.44e-4), but no significant difference was found in HRD scores between tumors with sHRRm and wild-type HRR genes (P = 0.206). HRD-high tumors had significantly (P = 0.003) higher pCR rates and higher near-pCR rates (P = 0.049) compared with those of the HRD-low tumors in all tumors and the luminal subtype, respectively. HRD-high tumors were associated with aggressive phenotypes and gHRRm, but not sHRRm. High-dose RT (12Gy x 3 fractions) significantly increased the percentages of plasmacytoid dendritic cells within the tumor islets 3- and 5-days post-RT; adding CMP-001 after RT also enhanced adaptive immunity by increasing the proportion of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. The dry weight as well as the contents of N, P, and K increased from 38.8 to 78.53%, 118 to 86%, 148 to 115%, and 95.8 to 95%, respectively, over control in T15 combination after 30 and 60 days. T15 and T16 both treatments induced a significant rise in IAA and GB from 76 to 75.5% and 50%-45%, respectively, after 60 days. The significant increase in the activities of ***, APX, CAT, and GR with 47%, 56%, 42%, and 28%, respectively, over control was observed in T16 treated combination after 60 days. The significant (P less then 0.05) influence in the antioxidant activities, levels of GB, Proline, TSS, and RS were observed across the treatments and durations. The levels of BCF and TF both were less then 1 in T16 treated plants for toxic heavy metals (Pb, Mo, Cd, and Al), which indicated a negligible extent of translocation from root to shoot and shoot to edible parts in the plants. Isolated metopic synostosis presents with a range of severity, from a palpable ridge as the sole presenting feature to a constellation of features resulting in trigonocephaly. At our unit, patients on the moderate to severe end of the phenotypic spectrum of trigonocephaly are offered fronto-orbital advancement and remodeling. The authors present our series of trigonocephaly patients who have undergone surgical correction. From January 2000 to January 2020, the authors operated on 231 patients with trigonocephaly. The average age at surgery was 18 months, with an average follow-up of 77.4 months. Seventy-nine percent of patients had no comorbidity. Ten percent of patients sustained a dural tear with no long-term consequences. The total early complication rate was 12.1%. The most common early complications were wound infection and wound dehiscence at 7.4% and 3.9% respectively. The total reoperation rate was 6.5%. The introduction of infection prevention and control measures over the 2 decades at our unit redor raised intracranial pressure after the primary fronto-orbital advancement and remodeling. There were no life-threatening complications or mortalities in our cohort. The authors present recommendations which include an infection control care bundle, cessation of surgical drains, and practice adjustments to reduce risks of infection and risk of requiring further calvarial remodelling for raised intracranial pressure.

This article reports the manufacture of an immediate palatal obturator prosthesis after hemimaxillectomy due to the surgical removal of an intraoral squamous cell carcinoma, which guaranteed better conditions for postoperative recovery, as well as better adaptation to the definitive prosthesis and the use of the prosthetic apparatus.

To evaluate the efficacy of the second operation within 1 week after ineffective microvascular decompression (MVD) for patients with primary hemifacial spasm (HFS), and to find out the causes of failure.
The surgery records and postoperative follow-ups of 52 primary HFS patients who had poor relief of spasm after their first MVDs were investigated. Patients were divided into 2 groups. Group A included 46 patients (16 males and 30 females) that went through the second operation within 1 week after the failure of the first MVD. Group B included 6 patients (3 males and 3 females) which did not take the reoperation. The level of spasm of each patient was then re-evaluated 1 year after the first surgery.
Among 52 patients who had poor relief after the first MVD between April 2016 and October 2019, 46 patients underwent a second MVD within 1 week while 6 patients refused to take the reoperation. Their mean duration of HFS was 102.4 ± 57.9 months. During reoperations for patients in group A, we discovered addione and making sure no neurovascular compression missed with abnormal muscle response monitoring are the keys to a successful MVD.
The timing of post-operative full weight-bearing in patients of isolated displaced lateral malleolar fractures remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of early full weight-bearing after rigid internal fixation of such fractures with locking plates.
From 2012 to 2018, 46 patients who had closed isolated displaced lateral malleolar fractures were included in the study. All fractures were managed with open reduction and internal fixation with locking plates. The patients were allowed to walk bearing their full weight 2 weeks after the operation. The follow-up period was 41.5 months on average (range 12-70 months). The patients were available to evaluate union conditions, functional results, and complications.
The fractures united smoothly with an average union time of 10.5 weeks (range 8-16). At the final follow-up, the average American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Score Ankle-Hindfoot Score was 91 (range 85-98). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/1-thioglycerol.html No complications were observed.

This study aimed to investigate the short-term effect of cycloplegia on higher-order aberrations (HOAs) in school-age myopic children who received 0.25% atropine for cycloplegic refraction.
We performed a retrospective chart review of 24 myopic children between the ages of 5 and 15 years, who had received one topical drop of 0.25% atropine for three consecutive nights before undergoing cycloplegic refraction. Auto-refraction, visual acuity, and HOAs measured with the iTrace aberrometer were compared before and after atropine use. The authors present our series of trigonocephaly patients who have undergone surgical correction. From January 2000 to January 2020, the authors operated on 231 patients with trigonocephaly. The average age at surgery was 18 months, with an average follow-up of 77.4 months. Seventy-nine percent of patients had no comorbidity. Ten percent of patients sustained a dural tear with no long-term consequences. The total early complication rate was 12.1%. Group A included 46 patients (16 males and 30 females) that went through the second operation within 1 week after the failure of the first MVD. In this study, the dissolution of suspended PbS, CuS, and ZnS with different levels of adsorbed NOM was investigated. The rates of metal release showed the following order after normalization by the available surface areas PbS > CuS > ZnS. The adsorbed NOM was found to inhibit the oxidative dissolution of PbS and ZnS; the degree of inhibition was enhanced by increased levels of NOM adsorption. In contrast, the dissolution of CuS was found to increase and then decrease with increased levels of NOM adsorption. These results show that adsorbed NOM can promote metal release via ligand-induced dissolution, as well as inhibit metal release by forming a barrier against oxygen and proton attacks. The relative importance of these processes is metal specific and governs the overall impacts of NOM adsorption on the dissolution of metal sulfides. BCP/MWCNTs/GCE has advantages due to its excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of electroactive species of the Ctenopharyngodon idellus kidney (CIK) cells. The half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of SMZ, CIP, and TC obtained by the electrochemical method were 831.51 μM, 354.98 μM, and 184.51 μM, which were lower than those of the traditional methyl-thiazolyl-tetrazolium (MTT) assay (907.47 μM, 414.87 μM, and 208.11 μM). The subjects of this study were all listed on China's A-share market on either the Shenzhen or Shanghai Stock Exchange. The empirical results indicate the following (1) the more serious the smog, the more likely enterprises are to perform CSR; (2) smog exerts a higher impact on the social responsibility of enterprises that receive more media attention. Further research determined that media attention, whether positive, negative, or neutral, plays the same role in moderating the relationship between smog and CSR; and (3) compared to private enterprises, the function of smog in promoting the CSR fulfillment of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) is more obvious. Palms are particularly significant in Africa a palm oil industry already exists with Nigeria being the largest producer. Previous work using CLIMEX modelling indicated that Africa will have reduced suitable climate for oil palm in Africa. The current paper employs this modelling to assess how suitable climate for growing oil palm changed in Africa from current time to 2100. An increasing trend in suitable climate from west to east was observed indicating that refuges could be obtained along the African tropical belt. Most countries had reduced suitable climates but others had increased, with Uganda being particularly high.

Recent randomized trials demonstrating the beneficial effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in type 2 diabetes suggest that early reductions in eGFR upon initiation of SGLT2i therapy are associated with improved renal outcomes. Multiple concomitant medications, including antidiabetic and antihypertensive agents, are commonly used, however, which may modify the renal hemodynamic action of SGLT2is. Here we found that background treatment with metformin diminished the SGLT2i-induced reductions in eGFR after 3 months of SGLT2i therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension (-2.29 ± 0.90 vs -5.85 ± 1.27 mL/min/1.73 m2 for metformin users (n = 126) and nonusers (n = 97), respectively). Other antidiabetic agents (DPP4 inhibitors, sulfonylureas and insulin) had no effect on the eGFR response to SGLT2is. Antihypertensive drugs, including calcium channel blockers (CCBs) and β blockers, did not affect the SGLT2i-induced changes in eGFR, whereas renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASis) tended to enhance this response (p = 0.059). Next, we evaluated the interaction between metformin and RASis in the eGFR responses to SGLT2is. In the past few decades, a variety of grading systems have been proposed for hypertensive retinopathy. However, these grading systems have some limitations. This study utilized optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to investigate the morphological changes and macular retinal microvasculature in depth among 100 patients with hypertensive retinopathy and 66 healthy participants. Five main pathological changes were discovered in hypertensive retinopathy, as follows focal capillary sparsity, scattered microangioma, focal macular arch ring defects, focal capillary disorder, and focal capillary nonperfusion at the levels of the superficial and deep vascular networks. In addition, we have found that the number of various pathological changes shows an increasing trend as hypertensive retinopathy progresses and may be related to renal damage. Finally, deep vessel density tended to decrease with progressive stages of hypertensive retinopathy and could be the best indicator to predict the risk of hypertensive retinopathy. Our study, therefore, proposes 3 stages of hypertensive retinopathy without macular edema according to the pathophysiology found by OCTA stage 1 (only focal capillary sparsity), taking the place of KWB grade I; stage 2 (focal capillary sparsity and scattered microangioma), taking the place of KWB grade II; and stage 3 (focal capillary sparsity, scattered microangioma, focal capillary disorder, and nonperfusion), taking the place of KWB grade III. In this study, we examined the concentrations of seven trace metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, As and Cr) in sixteen economic fish species collected from Xincun Lagoon and their exposed environment (water and sediment). The concentrations of Pb and Zn in the water column were higher than the safety threshold stipulated by Chinese legislation, while the contents of all examined metals in the sediment and fish species were lower than the legislative thresholds set by China and international organizations. The contents of trace metals in the fish species in high trophic levels or those that prefer to live in/on the sediment layer were significantly higher than those in other trophic levels and pelagic/subbenthic fish, these species had homogeneous anthropogenic pollution sources for Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg and As. Our results show that the trace metal contents in fish were mainly affected by trophic level and habitat preference. The contribution of metal exposure from the sediment to metal accumulation in fish was lower than that in water, especially for the Cd and Hg in the sediment. Five main pathological changes were discovered in hypertensive retinopathy, as follows focal capillary sparsity, scattered microangioma, focal macular arch ring defects, focal capillary disorder, and focal capillary nonperfusion at the levels of the superficial and deep vascular networks. In addition, we have found that the number of various pathological changes shows an increasing trend as hypertensive retinopathy progresses and may be related to renal damage. We included 139 users of IQOS tobacco vaporizers. All participants were current (49.6%) or former cigarette smokers at the time when they began to use the tobacco vaporizer. Among the 135 current users, the median dependence on vaporizers was 80 on a scale from 0-100 (25th and 75th percentiles 50 and 90), and 63.6% reported being somewhat to totally afraid of becoming dependent on the vaporizer. Half (51%) reported that they were less dependent on vaporizers than on combustible cigarettes, 43.8% were equally dependent on both products and 5.2% were more dependent on vaporizers than on cigarettes. Only one cigarette withdrawal symptom was reported by participants, "craving" for combustible cigarettes, and among respondents who experienced craving, 83.9% found that the IQOS vaporizer relieved it "a lot" to "totally".

We have discovered six compounds from the Maybridge chemical database with the predicted IC50 values ranging from 24.2 nM to 83.6 nM. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that used a cascaded DNN model to identify potential lead compounds for the inhibition of renin target. Through the results presented in this study, we provide evidence of the DNN method being a useful approach to identify new chemical entities/novel lead compounds that may overcome the limitation of existing conventional strategies used in drug discovery research. More stability of the MCP/BNNT complexes may be attributed to the existence of the intermolecular hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) between the hydrogen atoms of the MCP molecule and the N atoms of the BNNT. The results of the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) confirmed the presence of H-bonds in these complexes. Moreover, MD simulation studies were done in the presence of five drug molecules. The results revealed that the strongest van der Waals (vdW) interaction energy was found between the BNNT and MCP among the studied nanotubes, indicating the BNNT is a better nanocarrier than carbon nanotube for delivery of the MCP drug within the biological systems. The aim of this study was to develop an automated dose optimization algorithm, powered by simulated annealing, for inverse planning of ocular plaque brachytherapy treatments, to improve tumor coverage and critical structure sparing for reduced treatment-related morbidity.
A simulated annealing based algorithm was built and evaluated by finding variable seed strengths that maximized dose uniformity across tumor base for model cases of various tumor heights and plaque sizes. This problem assessed its potential to find the minima in the energy function using differential loading. The algorithm was further developed to decrease doses to critical structures while maintaining desired tumor coverage. Doses to the optic disc and fovea were compared to those using uniform seed strengths for various model cases. Finally, 10 retrospective patient cases treated with uniform seed strengths were replanned with the developed algorithm to evaluate effectiveness for clinical application.
The developed algorithm achieved dose reductions of up to 37.3% and 39.6% to the optic disc and fovea, respectively, compared to those using uniform seed strengths, depending on the tumor and plaque size used for the model cases. Applying the algorithm to 10 clinical scenarios resulted in dose reductions of 14% to the optic disc and fovea relative to clinical treatments performed with uniform seed strengths.

Meta-analyses have provided some evidence that the benefit of LHS is limited to women with poor ovarian response (POR). This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of LHS on cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) in POR using a large controlled study in a real-world context.
This retrospective multicentre controlled study used data from registries at 12 French ART centres. All instances of POR undergoing ovarian stimulation and treated with follitrophin-alfa (FSH-α) with or without lutrophin-α were selected following an intention-to-treat principle. POR was defined according to the ESHRE Bologna criteria, and classified into three categories (Mild, Moderate and Severe) according to the Poor Responder Outcome Prediction (PROsPeR) score. The primary end-point was the CLBR associated with fresh and frozen embryos originating from the same ovarian stimulation.
A total of 9787 instances of ovarian stimulation (5218 LHS, 4569 FSH-α only) were analysed, 33.0%, 52.4% and 14.6% being allocated to the Mild, Moderate and Severe PROsPeR categories, respectively. Using a mixed logistic model and adjusting for matched subclasses and baseline POR severity, it was found that the benefit of LHS compared with use of FSH alone differed between baseline severity categories (interaction test, P = 0.007) a significant benefit of LHS for CLBR was found for patients in the Moderate (14.3% versus 11.3%, odds ratio [OR] = 1.37, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07-1.75, risk ratio [RR] = 1.29, P = 0.013) and Severe (9.8% versus 4.4%, OR = 2.40, 95% CI- 1.48-3.89, RR = 1.89, P<0.001) categories, but not for the Mild category (18.8% versus 19.6%, OR = 0.95, 95% CI 0.78-1.15, RR = 0.95, P = 0.60).

Does connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) expression relate to adenomyotic fibrosis and determine the correlation between fibrosis with adenomyosis-associated dysmenorrhoea?
Protein and mRNA expression of CTGF was detected by Western blots and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction in the endometrium of the control group and the eutopic and ectopic endometrium of the adenomyosis group. Collagen fibres and type I collagen in the myometrium were detected by immunohistochemistry and Masson's trichrome staining, and the correlations of CTGF protein and mRNA levels with the degree of fibrosis were analysed. Furthermore, the relationship between the severity of dysmenorrhoea and the degree of fibrosis was determined, and the correlation between uterus size and the degree of fibrosis was also analysed.
