Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) have no fixed tertiary structure under physiological conditions and are associated with many human diseases. Because IDPs have the characteristic of possessing diverse conformations, current experimental methods cannot capture all the conformations of IDPs. However, molecular dynamics simulation can sample these atomistically diverse conformations as a valuable complement to experimental data. To accurately describe the properties of IDPs, the environment-specific precise force field (ESFF1) was successfully released to reproduce the conformer character of ordered and disordered proteins. Here, three typical IDPs and thirteen folded proteins were used to further evaluate the performance of this force field. The results indicate that the NMR observables of ESFF1 better approach experimental data than do those of ff14SB for IDPs. The sampling conformations by ESFF1 are more diverse than those of ff14SB. For folded proteins, these force fields have comparable performances for reproducing conformers. Therefore, ESFF1 can be used to reveal the model of sequence-disorder-function for IDPs.
To determine the role of sleep quality and caffeinated beverage consumption in the effect of late chronotype on body mass index (BMI).
The study consisted of a total of 661 healthy university students with a mean age of 21.4 ± 1.38 years. Within the scope of the study, The Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) was used to determine the chronotypes of individuals, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to determine sleep quality, and a 24 h physical activity record was taken to determine physical activity levels. The caffeine intake of the individuals was determined using a food frequency questionnaire for the intake of caffeinated food and beverages. The role of mediators in the effect of late chronotype on BMI was evaluated via multiple mediation analysis.
In this study, evening-type individuals had higher daily caffeine intake, worse sleep quality (P < 0.001), and higher BMI (P < 0.05). When the effect of mediators was taken into account, the negative relationship between the chronotype score and BMI was maintained (β = -0.109, 95% CI (-0.194, -0.021), P < 0.05). Decreased sleep quality had a mediated effect in this relationship [β = -0.208, 95% CI (-0.275, -0.119)], and caffeinated beverage consumption was found to have no mediator function (β = 0.040 95% CI (-0.050, 0.108), P > 0.05).
To conclude, eveningness chronotype had an effect on higher levels of caffeinated beverage consumption, lower sleep quality, and increased BMI. Chronotype, sleep quality, and caffeinated beverage consumption should be taken into account in studies examining the relationship between circadian rhythm and obesity.

There is a critical need to develop a simple, affordable, and environmentally friendly color indicator that can quickly and conveniently monitor and indicate the quality of packaged food products in the home, supermarkets, shops, etc. This study aimed to develop a nanocellulose/chitosan-based film coated with polylactic acid (PLA) to monitor beef spoilage in real-time. This film named PLA/NCM was fabricated by casting a suspension of a nanocellulose/chitosan mixture doped with methyl red, followed by a coating of PLA on the film surface. The film displayed a visible color change in response to different pH buffer solutions (2-10). The PLA/NCM film was applied to monitor the spoilage of beef under a refrigeration condition of 4 °C and showed an apparent color change after 5 days as a threshold for beef spoilage. The color modulation of the PLA/NCM films was processed each time via a colorimetric device and revealed substantial color difference values (ΔE) after 5 days of beef spoilage. The total viable microbial counts (TVC) and pH of the beef sample were determined, and the findings showed that the TVC and pH increased simultaneously during the beef spoilage. Although further research is necessary, the PLA/NCM film has the potential to be a color indicator for application in both smart food packaging and real-time monitoring of spoilage of beef and other meat products.Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by heightened host immune responses post infection. Despite intensive research, most of the existing diagnostic methods remain non-specific, labour-intensive, time-consuming or are not sensitive enough for rapid and timely diagnosis of the onset and progression of sepsis. The present work was undertaken to explore the potential of Raman spectroscopy to identify the biomarkers of sepsis in a label-free and minimally invasive manner using different mouse models of inflammation. The sera of BALB/c **** infected with Salmonella Typhimurium reveal extensive hemolysis, as indicated by the Raman bands that are characteristic of the porphyrin ring of hemoglobin (668, 743, 1050, 1253 and 1397 cm-1) which increase in a kinetic manner. These markers are also observed in a lipopolysaccharide-induced endotoxic shock model, but not in a thioglycollate-induced sterile peritonitis model. These data demonstrate that hemolysis is a signature of systemic, but not localised, inflammation. In this work, perylene bisimide (PBI) derivatives dispersion graphene (GR) were prepared by a π-π stacking, the highly orientated PBI0.5%/GR0.5%/WEP coating will be prepared by the rotating coating method. Especially, the impedance value reached about 109 Ω·cm2 when the PBI and GR ratio is 11. The impedance value of PBI0.5%/GR0.5%/WEP coating increased by 3 orders of magnitude compared with that of pure WEP coating (106 Ω·cm2). Additionally, the coefficient of friction of the coatings was 0.33; compared with that of WEP, the coefficient of friction decreased by 48%, and the wear resistance increased by 87.6%. The results show that the PBI0.5%/GR0.5%/WEP coatings exhibited excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance properties due to the good dispersion and high orientation of PBI/GR in WEP. In this study, nanoscale liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (nano-LC-MS/MS) analysis was implemented in the calf tissues of young and old groups of rats. The mass spectrometry (MS) analysis revealed the presence of 335 differentially expressed proteins between the two different age conditions, among which those based on log-fold change 25 proteins were upregulated and 77 were downregulated. The protein-protein interaction network analysis revealed 18 upregulated proteins with three distinct interconnected networks and 57 downregulated proteins with two networks. Further, gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis showed the biological process, cellular component, and molecular function of the differential proteins. Pathway enrichment analysis of the DE proteins identified nine significantly enriched pathways with a list of eight significant genes (Cryab, Hspb2, Acat1, Ak1, Adssl1, Anxa5, Gys1, Ogdh, Gc, and Adssl1). Quantification of significant genes by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) confirmed the downregulation at the mRNA level. The sensor array is composed of pH indicators and aniline dyes from classical spot tests, which enabled molecular recognition of a variety of aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic acids as demonstrated by hierarchical clustering and principal component analyses. To demonstrate the concept, these CSAs were employed for differentiation of emissions from heated cooking oils (sunflower, rapeseed, olive, and groundnut oils). Sensor results were validated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, highlighting the potential of the sensor array for evaluating cooking emissions as a source of indoor air pollution.

Solid tumor progression is significantly influenced by interactions between cancer cells and the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/E7080.html Specifically, the cancer cell-driven changes to ECM fiber alignment and collagen deposition impact tumor growth and metastasis. Current methods of quantifying these processes are incomplete, require simple or artificial matrixes, rely on uncommon imaging techniques, preclude the use of biological and technical replicates, require destruction of the tissue, or are prone to segmentation errors. We present a set of methodological solutions to these shortcomings that were developed to quantify these processes in cultured, ex vivo human breast tissue under the influence of breast cancer cells and allow for the study of ECM in primary breast tumors. Herein, we describe a method of quantifying fiber alignment that can analyze complex native ECM from scanning electron micrographs that does not preclude the use of replicates and a high-throughput mechanism of quantifying collagen content that is non-destructive. The use of these methods accurately recapitulated cancer cell-driven changes in fiber alignment and collagen deposition observed by visual inspection. Additionally, these methods successfully identified increased fiber alignment in primary human breast tumors when compared to human breast tissue and increased collagen deposition in lobular breast cancer when compared to ductal breast cancer. To determine the prevalence and prognostic value of sarcopenia measured by dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and physical performance tests in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery or heart valve procedures.
Adults undergoing cardiac surgery were prospectively enrolled and completed a questionnaire, physical performance battery, and a DXA scan (GE Lunar) to measure appendicular muscle mass indexed to height
(AMMI). Patients were categorized as sarcopenic based on European Working Group 2 guidelines if they had low AMMI defined as <7 kg/m
for men or <5.5 kg/m
for women, and low muscle strength defined as 5 chair rise time ≥15 seconds. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to test the association between sarcopenia and all-cause mortality over a median follow-up of 4.3 years.
The cohort consisted of 141 patients with a mean age of 69.7 ± 10.0 years and 21% females. The prevalence rates of low AMMI, slow chair rise time, and sarcopenia (low AMMI and slow chair rise time) were 24%, 57%, 13%, respectively. The 4-year survival rate was 79% in the non-sarcopenic group as compared to 56% in the sarcopenic group (Log-rank P = 0.01). In the multivariable model, each standard deviation of decreasing AMMI and increasing chair rise time was associated with a hazard ratio for all-cause mortality of 1.84 (95% CI 1.18, 2.86) and 1.79 (95% CI 1.26, 2.54), respectively.

CT scans of 160 subjects with EVALI from 15 institutions were retrospectively reviewed. CT findings and patterns were defined and agreed on via consensus. The parenchymal organizing pneumonia (OP) pattern was defined as regional or diffuse ground-glass opacity (GGO) ± consolidation without centrilobular nodules (CNs). An airway-centered OP pattern was defined as diffuse CNs with little or no GGO, whereas a mixed OP pattern was a combination of the two. Other patterns included diffuse alveolar damage (DAD), acute eosinophilic-like pneumonia, and pulmonary hemorrhage. Cases were classified as atypical if they did not fit into a pattern. Imaging findings, pattern frequencies, and injury severity were correlated with substanAD (nine of 160, 5.6%), pulmonary hemorrhage (six of 160, 3.8%), and atypical (four of 160, 2.5%) patterns were less common. Increased vaping frequency was associated with more severe injury (P= .008). Multivariable analysis showed a negative association between vaping for > 6months and DAD pattern (P= .03). The safety planning intervention (SPI) is gaining momentum in suicide prevention practice and research. This systematic review sought to determine the effectiveness of the SPI for adults experiencing suicide-related distress. Systematic searches of international, peer-reviewed literature were conducted in six databases (Cochrane Trials, Embase, Emcare, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science), including terms for safety planning, suicide, and suicide-related outcomes. A total of 565 results were included for screening. Result screening (title/abstract and full-text), data extraction and critical appraisal were conducted in duplicate. Twenty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. Studies were primarily quantitative (n = 20), largely with general adult or veteran samples; a small number of studies explored the perspectives of staff and significant others. Half of the studies included the SPI as a standalone intervention, while the other half examined the SPI in combination with other interventions. All the patients on the BIOBADADERM registry were included. Crude and adjusted incidence rate ratios (cIRR and aIRR, respectively) of hepatic AEs, using anti-TNF drugs as reference, were determined. Outcomes of interest were hypertransaminasemia, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NADFLD) and a group of other, less represented, hepatic AEs.

This study characterised the relationship between speech intelligibility and quality in listeners with hearing loss for a range of hearing-aid processing settings and acoustic conditions.
Binaural speech intelligibility scores and quality ratings were measured for sentences presented in babble noise and processed through a hearing-aid simulation. The intelligibility-quality relationship was investigated by (1) assessing the effects of experimental conditions on each task; (2) directly comparing intelligibility scores and quality ratings for each participant across the range of conditions; and (3) comparing the association between signal envelope fidelity (represented by a cepstral correlation metric) and intelligibility and quality.

Intelligibility and quality showed a positive association both with each other and with changes to signal fidelity introduced by the entire acoustic and signal-processing system including the additive noise and the hearing-aid output. The safety planning intervention (SPI) is gaining momentum in suicide prevention practice and research. This systematic review sought to determine the effectiveness of the SPI for adults experiencing suicide-related distress. Systematic searches of international, peer-reviewed literature were conducted in six databases (Cochrane Trials, Embase, Emcare, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science), including terms for safety planning, suicide, and suicide-related outcomes. A total of 565 results were included for screening. Result screening (title/abstract and full-text), data extraction and critical appraisal were conducted in duplicate. Twenty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. Studies were primarily quantitative (n = 20), largely with general adult or veteran samples; a small number of studies explored the perspectives of staff and significant others. Half of the studies included the SPI as a standalone intervention, while the other half examined the SPI in combination with other interventions. Fine needle aspiration was reported as Bethesda class IV follicular neoplasm of a Hürthle cell subtype. Calcitonin level was found to be elevated. To describe the liver safety findings of conventional and modern systemic therapies for moderate-to-severe psoriasis, and to compare the relative incidence rates of hepatic adverse events (AEs) for each drug. All the patients on the BIOBADADERM registry were included. Crude and adjusted incidence rate ratios (cIRR and aIRR, respectively) of hepatic AEs, using anti-TNF drugs as reference, were determined. Outcomes of interest were hypertransaminasemia, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NADFLD) and a group of other, less represented, hepatic AEs. Our study included 3,171 patients exposed to systemic drugs (6279 treatment cycles). Incident hypertransaminasemia was the most frequent hepatic AE (incidence rate of 21 per 1000 patients-years [CI 95% CI 18-23]), followed by NAFLD (8 cases per 1000 patients-years [95% CI 6-10]). Aim To determine the prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing Escherichia coli in South Asia. Methodology A systematic review and meta-analysis of data published in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Scopus. Results The pooled prevalence of ESBL and MBL-producing E. coli in South Asia were 33% (95% CI 27-40%) and 17% (95% CI 12-24%), respectively. The prevalence of blaCTX-M type was 58% (95% CI 49-66%) with blaCTX-M-15 being the most prevalent (51%, 95% CI 40-62%) variant. The most prevalent MBL variant was blaNDM-1 (33%, 95% CI 20-50%). Conclusion This study suggests a high prevalence of ESBLs and MBLs among E. coli clinical isolates. Comprehensive resistance surveillance is required to guide clinicians prescribing antibiotics in South Asia.Aim To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ceftobiprole in patients aged ≥65 years. The safety profile was similar between treatment groups in all studies. The purpose of this review is to provide a brief background on pelvic exenteration in gynecologic cancers and to familiarize the reader with the critical radiological aspects in the evaluation of patients for this complex procedure. Methods Digital consultations between March 15, 2020 and April 30, 2020 were identified. Between June and July 2020, patients and treatment providers completed online questionnaires addressing challenges and advantages of their digital consultations. Both groups documented their satisfaction and working alliance (Working Alliance Inventory). In addition, semistructured qualitative interviews with treatment providers were conducted. Findings A total of 82 online surveys (response rate 47%) about the digital consultations were available for analyses, with 60 patients correctly identifying at least one treatment provider, and 9 interviews were performed. Patients and treatment providers overall evaluated the new setting of digital consultation as feasible and an efficient consultation format. Interestingly, the working alliance was rated as good. Technical problems were mentioned as the main challenge and the delivery of practical exercises in digital consultations was seen more challenging than having digital conversation-based consultations. Conclusion Digital consultations were established with overall positive evaluations and with a good working alliance between patients and providers. For the delivery of practical exercises it might be required to develop more innovative digital settings to overcome shortcomings of the digital format. Hybrid settings that combine the best of both settings could be a good option for future in postpandemic times.

Serum pepsinogen 1 and the ratio of pepsinogen 1/pepsinogen 2 (PG1/2) can reflect the severity of gastric atrophy. Objective This work aims to investigate whether decreased serum PG1 and PG1/2 ratio are helpful in diagnosing SCD and reflecting the severity of SCD. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and laboratory tests of 65 cases of SCD due to vitamin B12 deficiency and compared the laboratory parameters of SCD with 65 age- and sex-matched amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. Results PG1 and PG1/2 ratio were decreased in 80 and 52.3% of SCD patients, respectively. Compared to patients with PG1/2 ratio ≥3.0, patients with PG1/2 ratio less then 3.0 had more severe anemia, larger mean corpuscular volume (MCV), lower level of vitamin B12, higher folate and homocysteine (Hcy), more severe changes in somatosensory evoked potential (SEP), and higher rate of lesions in spinal MRI (P less then 0.05). PG1 and PG1/2 ratio had inverse correlation with MCV and N20 latency in SEP examination (P less then 0.05). PG1/2 ratio, RBC count, and Hcy were independent risk factors for SCD in logistic regression analyses. The ROC curve analysis revealed that the diagnostic accuracy of PG1 and PG1/2 ratio was 72.2 and 73.0%, respectively, while the cutoff values were 22.4 ng/ml and 2.43 for SCD, respectively. Conclusions Decreased PG1 and PG1/2 ratio are helpful for the diagnosis and evaluation of the severity of SCD due to vitamin B12 deficiency.Background The use of electrocorticography (ECoG) to avoid intraoperative stimulation-induced seizure (ISS) during awake craniotomy is controversial. Although a standard direct cortical stimulating (DCS) protocol is used to identify the eloquent cortices and subcortical structures, ISS still occurs. Epilepsy is related to alterations in brain networks. In this study, we investigated specific alterations in brain networks in patients with ISS. Methods Twenty-seven patients with glioma were enrolled and categorized into the ISS and non-ISS groups based on their history of ISS occurrence. A standard DCS protocol was used during awake craniotomy without ECoG supervision. Graph theoretical measurement was used to analyze resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data to quantitatively reveal alterations in the functional networks. Results In the sensorimotor networks, the glioma significantly decreased the functional connectivity (FC) of four edges in the ISS group, which were conversely increased in the non-ISS group after multiple corrections (p less then 0.001, threshold of p-value = 0.002). Regarding the topological properties, the sensorimotor network of all participants was classified as a small-world network. Case Description We reported a 48-year-old male case of vertebral AVF simultaneously combined with thoracic scoliosis and NF-1. Preoperative CT angiography showed the AVF with multiple orifices located on the vessel wall of the vertebral artery, which was proved during the procedure of endovascular treatment. By occluding the parent vertebral artery, the AVF was finally cured. Further whole-exome sequencing identified a novel germline heterozygous point nonsense mutation, c.G397T(p.E133X), in the NF1(NM_000267) gene exon4. Further, an estimated 30% of the current MS population consists of peri- or postmenopausal women. The presence of MS does not appear to influence age of menopausal onset. In clinical practice, symptoms of MS and menopause can frequently overlap, including disturbances in cognition, mood, sleep, and bladder function, which can create challenges in ascertaining the likely cause of symptoms to be treated. A holistic and comprehensive approach to address these common physical and psychological changes is often suggested to patients during menopause. Although some studies have suggested that women with MS experience reduced relapse rates and increased disability progression post menopause, the data are not consistent enough for firm conclusions to be drawn. Mechanisms through which postmenopausal women with MS may experience disability progression include neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration from age-associated phenomena such as immunosenescence and inflammaging. Additional effects are likely to result from reduced levels of estrogen, which affects MS disease course. Following early retrospective studies of women with MS receiving steroid hormones, more recent interventional trials of exogenous hormone use, albeit as oral contraceptive, have provided some indications of potential benefit on MS outcomes. This review summarizes current research on the effects of menopause in women with MS, including the psychological impact and symptoms of menopause on disease worsening, and the treatment options. Finally, we highlight the need for more inclusion of MS patients from underrepresented racial and geographic groups in clinical trials, including among menopausal women.

Results PG1 and PG1/2 ratio were decreased in 80 and 52.3% of SCD patients, respectively. Compared to patients with PG1/2 ratio ≥3.0, patients with PG1/2 ratio less then 3.0 had more severe anemia, larger mean corpuscular volume (MCV), lower level of vitamin B12, higher folate and homocysteine (Hcy), more severe changes in somatosensory evoked potential (SEP), and higher rate of lesions in spinal MRI (P less then 0.05). PG1 and PG1/2 ratio had inverse correlation with MCV and N20 latency in SEP examination (P less then 0.05). PG1/2 ratio, RBC count, and Hcy were independent risk factors for SCD in logistic regression analyses. The ROC curve analysis revealed that the diagnostic accuracy of PG1 and PG1/2 ratio was 72.2 and 73.0%, respectively, while the cutoff values were 22.4 ng/ml and 2.43 for SCD, respectively. Methods Twenty-seven patients with glioma were enrolled and categorized into the ISS and non-ISS groups based on their history of ISS occurrence. A standard DCS protocol was used during awake craniotomy without ECoG supervision. Graph theoretical measurement was used to analyze resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data to quantitatively reveal alterations in the functional networks. Results In the sensorimotor networks, the glioma significantly decreased the functional connectivity (FC) of four edges in the ISS group, which were conversely increased in the non-ISS group after multiple corrections (p less then 0.001, threshold of p-value = 0.002). Regarding the topological properties, the sensorimotor network of all participants was classified as a small-world network. Case Description We reported a 48-year-old male case of vertebral AVF simultaneously combined with thoracic scoliosis and NF-1. Preoperative CT angiography showed the AVF with multiple orifices located on the vessel wall of the vertebral artery, which was proved during the procedure of endovascular treatment. By occluding the parent vertebral artery, the AVF was finally cured. Further whole-exome sequencing identified a novel germline heterozygous point nonsense mutation, c.G397T(p.E133X), in the NF1(NM_000267) gene exon4. In clinical practice, symptoms of MS and menopause can frequently overlap, including disturbances in cognition, mood, sleep, and bladder function, which can create challenges in ascertaining the likely cause of symptoms to be treated. A holistic and comprehensive approach to address these common physical and psychological changes is often suggested to patients during menopause. Although some studies have suggested that women with MS experience reduced relapse rates and increased disability progression post menopause, the data are not consistent enough for firm conclusions to be drawn. Mechanisms through which postmenopausal women with MS may experience disability progression include neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration from age-associated phenomena such as immunosenescence and inflammaging. Additional effects are likely to result from reduced levels of estrogen, which affects MS disease course. Following early retrospective studies of women with MS receiving steroid hormones, more recent interventional trials of exogenous hormone use, albeit as oral contraceptive, have provided some indications of potential benefit on MS outcomes. 21 patients with prolactinoma (9 micro- and 12 macroprolactinomas; 7 females) and 30 controls were analyzed. Patients with prolactinoma had significantly higher BMI than controls; fat mass did not differ between groups. Only men - but not women - with prolactinoma had significantly higher fat mass at all six sites measured compared to controls. Levels of LDL (130 (107-147.5) vs. 94.5 (80-127.5) mg/dl, p < 0.001) were significantly higher, levels of HDL (56 ± 16.7 vs. 69.2 ± 14.6 mg/dl, p = 0.004) significantly lower than in controls. Fasting glucose, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, adiponectin, CRP, and homocysteine did nosk, highlighting the necessity to monitor metabolic parameters in these patients.
A complete dissection of infrapyloric lymph nodes is the key to a curative gastrectomy, which can be sometimes technically challenging in laparoscopic surgery.
One hundred and eighteen patients with gastric cancer undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy in which the infrapyloric lymph nodes were dissected through the right bursa omentalis approach were included. The clinicopathologic characteristics and surgical outcomes were analyzed retrospectively.
The laparoscopic gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy was successful in all 118 patients with no open conversion. The mean operation time was 246.6 ± 45.7min. The mean estimated blood loss was 87.0 ± 35.9mL. Postoperative complications occurred in 17.8% of the patients, which were treated successfully with conservative therapy or aspiration in all. There were no No.6 lymphadenectomy-associated complications, such as injury of transverse colon, vessels of mesocolon, pancreas or duodenum, no pancreatitis, pancreatic leakage or postoperative hemorrhage. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 9.6 ± 3.7days. On average, the total lymph nodes harvested were 36.8 ± 12.9, in which the ones from the infrapyloric area were 5.1 ± 3.1.

Spinal epidural lipomatosis is a rare cause of lumbar spinal stenosis. While conservative therapy is applicable for most of cases, surgical intervention is necessary for severe ones. This is the first time we apply this modified technique to this disease.

Exercise interventions improve physical fitness, cognitive and affective function, and quality of life among nursing home residents. However, little is known regarding the consequences of cessation of activity, or detraining. We analyzed physical fitness, physical activity level, cognitive function, quality of life, and loneliness during a 6-month observational follow-up after a 6-month randomized controlled trial in which nursing home residents performed either routine activities (control group) or group-based exercise (intervention group). The intervention group showed an important decline in most physical fitness and cognitive function parameters after a 6-month detraining period. These results highlight the importance of recreation as part of residents' care needs, and exercise should therefore be implemented continuously.The aim of this study is to explore how staff manage apathy involving a person living with dementia (PLWD). Forty-two staff members working in four Spanish long-term care facilities were interviewed; 21 were nursing assistants and 21 technical staff. They read a vignette about a PLWD presenting apathy. Participants were asked (1) how a situation like that is commonly managed, and (2) how it should be managed. Responses were content-analyzed. Most participants (88.1%) mentioned having experienced a situation similar to the one described in the vignette. Behavior-focused strategies and person-centered strategies were the most frequently mentioned. As for best practices, person-centered strategies emerged as the preferred alternative, and technical staff mentioned them more frequently than assistant carers. Our findings stress the importance of organizational guidelines and staff development in the management of apathy in PLWD.The long-term supply of ecosystem services is dependent on properly functioning ecosystems and their susceptibility to natural and anthropogenic disturbances such as climate change and urbanization, as they can alter ecosystem structure and function. Forest function is not static, but rather a risky asset that fluctuates and can decrease as a result of forest disturbance. Therefore, concepts such as resilience and insurance value as well effective policy formulation, management, and restoration are key to maintaining these benefits. First, the stochastic differential equations were used to improve the simulation of stochasticity in the WPE nexus. Next, the transient probability distribution functions (pdfs) of system variables, obtained by Monte Carlo simulation, were used to describe the evolutionary process of the system. Finally, the stationary pdfs of variables which reflect stable states of the system were derived to calculate four resilience measures. It is shown that (1) The system approached a stable state after Year 2400 by calculating the L2 norm of the difference between transient and stationary pdfs. (2) The environmental system was identified as the most vulnerable subsystem because of its long convergence time. (3) The water supply system did not change greatly and it would remain stable at its current low level, i.e., water consumption per capita would be less than 80m3. The method adopted in this study is conducive to avoiding risk and the results provide valuable insights for regional management of a WPE nexus.Carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) produced by denitrification bioreactors in processing agricultural surface runoff have contributed to increasing proportion of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. It is the first time to monitor and quantify the emission flux of CO2 and CH4 produced by laboratory-scale denitrification bioreactors which recycled waste Cunninghamia lanceolata sawdust (CLS) and industrial sludge (IS) as fillers to process simulated agricultural surface runoff. Sludge-water ratio, inflow rate and water flow direction are used as experimental factors to study the effect on the emission flux of CO2 and CH4. Results show that emission flux of CO2 from denitrification bioreactors with different sludge-water ratio approached 20 mg m-2h-1, simultaneously the average emission flux of CH4 produced by all bioreactors was 1.785 mg m-2h-1. The addition of sludge increased the emission flux of CH4 and had no significant effect on the emission flux of CO2. Increasing the inflow rate reduced the CO2 emission flux from 21.57 to 1.27 mg m-2h-1, and at the same time increased the CH4 emission flux from 0.007 to 9.54 mg m-2h-1. The gravity flow of wastewater reduced the emission flux of CO2 and CH4. The emissions of CO2 and CH4 from folded plate denitrification bioreactor with CLS and industrial sludge with a volume ratio of 12 can be reduced by 24.67% and 73.3%, respectively. There was no need to add special gas collection and treatment devices because CO2 and CH4 emission fluxes produced by the folded plate denitrification bioreactor and gravity denitrification bioreactor are not enough to increase the greenhouse effect. This study quantified the CO2 and CH4 produced by denitrification bioreactors filling CLS and IS, and provided a reference for future research on the gases produced by the denitrification process.

It is the first time to monitor and quantify the emission flux of CO2 and CH4 produced by laboratory-scale denitrification bioreactors which recycled waste Cunninghamia lanceolata sawdust (CLS) and industrial sludge (IS) as fillers to process simulated agricultural surface runoff. Sludge-water ratio, inflow rate and water flow direction are used as experimental factors to study the effect on the emission flux of CO2 and CH4. Results show that emission flux of CO2 from denitrification bioreactors with different sludge-water ratio approached 20 mg m-2h-1, simultaneously the average emission flux of CH4 produced by all bioreactors was 1.785 mg m-2h-1. The addition of sludge increased the emission flux of CH4 and had no significant effect on the emission flux of CO2. Increasing the inflow rate reduced the CO2 emission flux from 21.57 to 1.27 mg m-2h-1, and at the same time increased the CH4 emission flux from 0.007 to 9.54 mg m-2h-1. The gravity flow of wastewater reduced the emission flux of CO2 and CH4. The emissions of CO2 and CH4 from folded plate denitrification bioreactor with CLS and industrial sludge with a volume ratio of 12 can be reduced by 24.67% and 73.3%, respectively. There was no need to add special gas collection and treatment devices because CO2 and CH4 emission fluxes produced by the folded plate denitrification bioreactor and gravity denitrification bioreactor are not enough to increase the greenhouse effect.
