    Data of all patients waiting for cataract surgery were analysed at the beginning of May 2020, after two months without performing elective surgery. The waiting time since surgical inscription was considered an independent and overriding factor. Also, higher priority was given to patients with white or brunescent cataracts and patients with low visual acuity corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) ≤20/200 in binocular patients or CDVA ≤20/63 in monocular patients. Criteria of medium priority included patients that remained with anisometropia and patients with glaucoma or low to moderate risk of chronic angle closure. Data of scheduled surgeries in the following months were then analyzed.

    A total of 717 patients were waiting for phacoemulsification in our center. 191 patients (26.64%) had more than 4.5 months on the waiting list; the medium waiting time was 3.51±1.57 months.     This retrospective cohort analysis included transgender women living with HIV enrolled in the U.S. Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems cohort between January 2005 and December 2016 with chlamydia or gonorrhea testing performed in HIV clinic. The primary outcome was a positive test for chlamydia or gonorrhea at urogenital or extragenital (rectal/pharyngeal) sites. Factors associated with infection were examined using logistic regression and generalized estimating equations to account for multiple tests per woman.

    Among 312 transgender women in HIV care, 252 (81%) were tested for chlamydia or gonorrhea at least once. Annual testing rates were low 23%-53% at genital sites and 24%-47% at extragenital sites. A total of 88 infections were detected and 22% of women (55/252) had at least one positive test. Most infections occurred at extragenital sites (80% of chlamydia and 82% of gonorrhea positive tests). Factors associated with infection in an adjusted model were age 18-29 years compared to ≥50 years (aOR 7.6; 95% CI 1.8-31.2), CD4 count >350 compared to CD4 <200 (aOR 5.5; 95% CI 1.2-25.1) and higher engagement in HIV care (aOR 2.2; 95% CI 1.0-4.5).

    Trochlear dysplasia is a known risk factor for patellar dislocations yet normal trochlea development is not well described. This study will define the articular cartilage (AC) and subchondral trochlear morphology development in pediatric patients using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation.

    A retrospective knee MRI review included patients aged 3 to 16 years with nonpatellofemoral-related diagnoses. International classification of diseases-9/International classification of diseases-10 codes were used to identify eligible study patients. Measurements of the trochlea were made on the basis of previously established methods using the axial MRI just distal to the physis at the deepest portion of the trochlear groove. Three linear [lateral trochlear height (LTH), medial trochlear height (MTH), and central trochlear height (CTH)] and 3 angular [sulcus angle (SA), lateral trochlear slope (LTS), and medial trochlear slope (MTS)] were made at AC and subchondral bone (SCB). The 12 measurements were made independently by 2 study authors.

  • Social neuroscience research has demonstrated that those who are like-minded are also 'like-brained.' Studies have shown that people who share similar viewpoints have greater neural synchrony with one another, and less synchrony with people who 'see things differently.' Although these effects have been demonstrated at the 'group level,' little work has been done to predict the viewpoints of specific 'individuals' using neural synchrony measures. Furthermore, the studies that have made predictions using synchrony-based classification at the individual level used expensive and immobile neuroimaging equipment (e.g. functional magnetic resonance imaging) in highly controlled laboratory settings, which may not generalize to real-world contexts. Thus, this study uses a simple synchrony-based classification method, which we refer to as the 'neural reference groups' approach, to predict individuals' dispositional attitudes from data collected in a mobile 'pop-up neuroscience' lab. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy data, we predicted individuals' partisan stances on a sociopolitical issue by comparing their neural timecourses to data from two partisan neural reference groups. Data included socio-demographic characteristics, motivations underlying attitudes to tissue donation and the legal context within which donation was considered (opt-in and opt-out consent). The sample was partitioned based on contextual information and seemingly unrelated bivariate probit regressions were used to explore the relationship between passive and active support for tissue donation.

    Approximately 56% of 25879 respondents stated a willingness to donate tissue after death (passive support) and 9.1% reported that they were a registered donor (active support). We found evidence of unobserved heterogeneity between active and passive support across contexts. Our findings suggest thatintended to promote organ and tissue donation.Cancer treatment has been transformed by checkpoint blockade therapies, with the highest anti-tumor activity of anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) antibody therapy seen in Hodgkin lymphoma. Disappointingly, response rates have been low in the non-Hodgkin lymphomas, with no activity seen in relapsed/refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) with PD-1 blockade. Thus, identifying more powerful combination therapy is required for these patients. Here, we preclinically demonstrate enhanced anti-CLL activity following combinational therapy with anti-PD-1 or anti-PD-1 ligand (PD-L1) and avadomide, a cereblon E3 ligase modulator (CELMoD). Avadomide induced type I and II interferon (IFN) signaling in patient T cells, triggering a feedforward cascade of reinvigorated T-cell responses. Immune modeling assays demonstrated that avadomide stimulated T-cell activation, chemokine expression, motility and lytic synapses with CLL cells, as well as IFN-inducible feedback inhibition through upregulation of PD-L1. Patient-derived xenograft tumors treated with avadomide were converted to CD8+ T cell-inflamed tumor microenvironments that responded to anti-PD-L1/PD-1-based combination therapy. Notably, clinical analyses showed increased PD-L1 expression on T cells, as well as intratumoral expression of chemokine signaling genes in B-cell malignancy patients receiving avadomide-based therapy. These data illustrate the importance of overcoming a low inflammatory T-cell state to successfully sensitize CLL to checkpoint blockade-based combination therapy.Diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCLs) are clinically and genetically heterogeneous tumors. To investigate the consequences of constitutive expression of HGAL in vivo, we generated **** that conditionally express the human HGAL at different stages of hematopoietic development using three different restricted Cre-mediated approaches to initiate expression of HGAL in hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), pro-B cells or GC B-cells, respectively. Following immune stimulation, we observed larger GCs in **** where HGAL expression was initiated in GC B-cells. All three mouse strains developed DLBCL at a frequency of 12-30% starting at age 13 months, leading to shorter survival. We conducted a systematic review of the literature to 1) characterize the prevalence of receiving (among injection-naive persons) and providing (among PWID) help or guidance with the first drug injection and 2) identify correlates associated with these behaviors. Correlates were organized as substance use behaviors, health outcomes (e.g., human immunodeficiency virus infection), or factors describing an individual's social, economic, policy, or physical environment, defined by means of Rhodes' risk environments framework. After screening of 1,164 abstracts, 57 studies were included.

  • In this study, we subjected a stockpiled quantitatively fitted surgical style N95 filtering facepiece respirator device to extreme reuse and extended wear conditions (up to 19 uses over a duration of 5 days) and measured its protective performance at regular intervals, including simulated workplace protection factor measurements using total inward leakage. With this respirator, it was shown to be possible to maintain protection corresponding to an assigned protection factor greater than 10 under extreme usage conditions provided an individual is properly trained in the use of, and expertly fitted in, the respirator. Other factors such as hygiene and strap breakage are likely to place limits on reuse.

    The Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) organization developed a clinical practice guideline in 2020 for the management of patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

    The KDIGO Work Group (WG) was tasked with developing the guideline for diabetes management in CKD. It defined the scope of the guideline, gathered evidence, determined systematic review topics, and graded evidence that had been summarized by an evidence review team. The English-language literature searches, which were initially done through October 2018, were updated in February 2020. The WG used the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) approach to appraise evidence and rate the strength of the recommendations. Expert judgment was used to develop consensus practice points supplementary to the evidence-based graded recommendations. The guideline document underwent open public review. Comments from various stakeholders, subject matter experts, and industry and national organizations were considered before the document was finalized.

    The guideline includes 12 recommendations and 48 practice points for clinicians caring for patients with diabetes and CKD. UHPLC-HRMS instrument and data acquisition parameters, and the sample pretreatment were optimised. One-step extraction showed several advantages compared to the three commercial solid-phase extraction clean-up methods, including ease of use, reduced time of sample preparation, low cost, good recovery, and acceptable matrix effect. The method validation results indicate that all mycotoxins have good linearity and sensitivity. Recoveries were between 74.2-101.1%, and RSD ranged from 0.1-5.8%. The LOQs for 24 mycotoxins were in the range of 0.5-100 µg/kg. To survey the contamination levels of these mycotoxins in commercial coix seeds, more than 70 samples were collected from Chinese markets and were analysed using the newly developed method. Zearalenone (positive ratio 98.7%, range1.1-1562 µg/kg), deoxynivalenol (positive ratio 87%, range 8.4-382.5 µg/kg), nivalenol (positive ratio 85.7%, range 26.8-828.2 µg/kg), fumonisin B1 (positive ratio 84.4%, range2.5-314.5 µg/kg), fumonisin B2 (positive ratio 75.3%, range1.6-72.8 µg/kg), fumonisin B3 (positive ratio 48%, range1.0-203.6 µg/kg), aflatoxin B1 (positive ratio 29.9%, range 0.39-14.7 µg/kg), sterigmatocystin (positive ratio 29.9%, range 1.4-51.6 µg/kg), and tenuazonic acid (positive ratio 19.5%, range 36.1-105.7 µg/kg) were the most frequent mycotoxin contaminants. These results highlight the importance of routine monitoring and control of mycotoxins in coix seeds.

  • Retinoblastoma (RB) is a common intraocular malignancy in children. Due to the poor prognosis of RB, it is crucial to search for efficient diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Studies have shown that methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3), a major RNA N (6)-adenosine methyltransferase, is closely related to the initiation and development of cancers. Nevertheless, whether METTL3 is associated with RB remains unexplored. Therefore, we investigated the function and mechanisms of METTL3 in the regulation of RB progression. We manipulated METTL3 expression in RB cells. Then, cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion were analysed. We also analysed the expression of PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway members. Finally, we incorporated subcutaneous xenograft mouse models into our studies. The results showed that METTL3 is highly expressed in RB patients and RB cells. We found that METTL3 knockdown decreases cell proliferation, migration and invasion of RB cells, while METTL3 overexpression promotes RB progression in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, two downstream members of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, P70S6K and 4EBP1, were affected by METTL3. Our study revealed that METTL3 promotes the progression of RB through PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways in vitro and in vivo. For electrochemical reactions involving gas reactants, conventional operando mass spectrometry struggles in detecting reaction intermediates because the batch-type electrochemical reactor can only handle a very limited current density due to the low solubility of gas reactant(s). Herein, we developed a new technique, namely flow electrolyzer mass spectrometry (FEMS), by incorporating a gas-diffusion electrode design, which enables the detection of reactive volatile or gaseous species at high operating current densities (>100 mA cm-2 ). We investigated the electrochemical carbon monoxide reduction reaction (eCORR) on polycrystalline copper and elucidated the oxygen incorporation mechanism in the acetaldehyde formation. Combining FEMS and isotopic labelling, we showed that the oxygen in the as-formed acetaldehyde intermediate originates from the reactant CO, while ethanol and n-propanol contained mainly solvent oxygen. The observation provides direct experimental evidence of an isotopic scrambling mechanism.The understanding of living systems and their building blocks relies on the assessment of structure-function relationships at the nanoscale. Once suitable luminescent labels become available, CL may be harnessed to enable identification of biomolecule labels based on spectral signatures rather than electron density and size. This work presents CL-enabled immunolabeling based on rare-earth element doped nanoparticle-labels allowing specific molecules to be visualized at nanoscale resolution in the context of the cellular ultrastructure. Folic acid decorated nanoparticles exhibiting single particle CL emission are employed to specifically label receptors and identify characteristic receptor clustering on the surface of cancer cells. This demonstration of CL immunotargeting gives access to protein localization in the context of the cellular ultrastructure and paves the way for immunolabeling of multiple proteins in EM.

    To assess the capacity of support vector machine (SVM) algorithms that are developed based on platelet RNA-seq data in identifying thyroid neoplasm patients and differentiating patients with thyroid adenomas, papillary thyroid cancer and metastasized papillary thyroid cancer.

    Platelets were collected and isolated from 109 patients and 63 healthy controls. RNA-seq was performed to find transcripts with differential levels. Genes corresponding to these altered transcripts were identified using R packages. All samples were subsampled into a training set and a validation set. Two SVM algorithms were developed and trained with the training set, using the genes with differential transcript levels (GDTLs) as classifiers, and validated with the validation set. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were performed using the R package clusterProfiler.

    We detected 765 GDTLs (442 up-regulated and 323 down-regulated) in platelets of patients and healthy controls. The algorithm identifying thyroid neoplasm patients achieved an accuracy of 97%, with an AUC (area under curve) of 0.998. The other algorithm differentiating patients with multiclass thyroid neoplasms had an average accuracy of 80.5%. GO analysis showed that GDTLs were strongly involved in biological processes such as neutrophil degranulation, neutrophil activation, autophagy and regulation of multi-organism process. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that GDTLs were mainly enriched in NOD-like receptor signaling pathway and pathways in endocytosis, osteoclast differentiation, human cytomegalovirus infection and tuberculosis.

There is an urgent need to establish criteria for clinical grade ES in order to facilitate such a complex testing. The standardization of pre- and post-test consultation, quality control for sample processing process and validation of bioinformatics data analysis, and more importantly data interpretation and reporting, as well as appropriate reporting scope, is of great importance for health care stakeholders. To achieve this, a committee composed of a wide range of healthcare professionals has proposed an ES standard for prenatal diagnosis. This has provided expert opinion on the genetic counseling and reporting standards of prenatal ES for the purpose of applying ES technology in prenatal setting. To assess the capacity of support vector machine (SVM) algorithms that are developed based on platelet RNA-seq data in identifying thyroid neoplasm patients and differentiating patients with thyroid adenomas, papillary thyroid cancer and metastasized papillary thyroid cancer. Platelets were collected and isolated from 109 patients and 63 healthy controls. RNA-seq was performed to find transcripts with differential levels. Genes corresponding to these altered transcripts were identified using R packages. All samples were subsampled into a training set and a validation set. Two SVM algorithms were developed and trained with the training set, using the genes with differential transcript levels (GDTLs) as classifiers, and validated with the validation set. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were performed using the R package clusterProfiler. We detected 765 GDTLs (442 up-regulated and 323 down-regulated) in platelets of patients and healthy controls. The algorithm identifying thyroid neoplasm patients achieved an accuracy of 97%, with an AUC (area under curve) of 0.998. The other algorithm differentiating patients with multiclass thyroid neoplasms had an average accuracy of 80.5%. GO analysis showed that GDTLs were strongly involved in biological processes such as neutrophil degranulation, neutrophil activation, autophagy and regulation of multi-organism process. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that GDTLs were mainly enriched in NOD-like receptor signaling pathway and pathways in endocytosis, osteoclast differentiation, human cytomegalovirus infection and tuberculosis. The onset-to-door and door-to-imaging times registered were significantly higher for posterior circulation stroke. The factors related to a lower delay in onset-to-door time were National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale > 4, dysarthria and loss of strength. A shorter delay in door-to-imaging time was observed for the variables basic attention by medical emergency service, dysarthria, loss of strength and presence of more than one symptom/sign. Grounded in socioemotional selectivity theory, the present study assesses how the effects of flexible schedules on sick day use, subjective health perceptions, work-to-family conflict, affective commitment, and work engagement change with age. The study uses 3,623 observations from the Linked Personnel Panel, a federally collected and maintained data set consisting of three waves from 2013-2017 in Germany. Results show that flexible schedules have age-specific effects for some outcomes and age-neutral effects for others. Flexible schedules were related to lower sick day use and higher subjective health perceptions only among older workers and reduced work-to-family conflict only among middle-aged workers. Relationships with work engagement and affective commitment were more consistently positive across age. The results point to the importance of understanding age-specific policy effects in the face of workforce aging. We identified 112 studies (5,390 participants) that generated 172 effect sizes from both recognition (k = 119) and discrimination (k = 53) paradigms. We used state-of-the-art approaches for assessing the validity and robustness of the analyses. We found comparable and large deficits in ASD for both face identity recognition (Hedge's g = -0.86) and discrimination (Hedge's g = -0.82). This means that the score of an average ASD individual is nearly 1 SD below the average TD individual on tasks assessing both aspects of face identity processing. Here, we tested whether structured activities in MSA would advance kindergarteners' MSA aptitude by the end of the school year. We examined two issues (a) whether reciting nursery rhymes in MSA would be more effective in promoting language and preliteracy skills in kindergarteners compared to listening to the same texts, and (b) whether there are additional advantages for using texts directly referring to the alphabet. Thus, 136 kindergarteners (Mage = 56; 61 girls), all native speakers of Arabic and with middle-low socioeconomic background, were assigned to a 10-session (2 months) program in 1 of 4 intervention conditions wherein nursery rhymes related/not related to the alphabet, were either repeatedly recited or listened to. The achievements of children in the intervention conditions were compared to those of peers that were given nonlinguistic activity of similar length (control). The four intervention groups improved their performance at the postintervention assessment in all tests of MSA aptitude and outperformed the control group in receptive and expressive vocabulary and listening comprehension. Also, the reciting groups were better than the control and listening groups in tests assessing vocabulary and morpho-syntactic sensitivity. Our results highlight the contribution of structured interventions based on rhyme repetition to MSA proficiency of kindergarteners. The most common practice is to represent EF ability as a reflective latent variable, with child performance on individual EF tasks as observed indicators. The current article critically evaluates the dominant use of reflective latent variable models in the child EF literature and compares them to composite models, a reasonable alternative. We review the literature suggesting that reflective latent variable models may not be the most appropriate representation of the construct of EF. Using preschool (Mage = 48.3 months) and first grade (Mage = 83.5 months) data from the Family Life Project (N = 920), we also investigate the implications of measurement model specification for the interpretation of study findings. Children in this sample varied in terms of sex (49% male), race (43% black) and socioeconomic status (76% low-income). Our findings show that the conclusions we draw from 2 substantive analyses differ depending on whether EF is modeled as a reflective latent variable versus a composite variable. We describe the implications of these findings for research on child EF and offer practical recommendations for producers and consumers of developmental research. Following job demands-resources theory, we argue that when employees strengthen their beliefs regarding how **** control they have over their environment (i.e., increase their personal resources) and use their character strengths, they will be more engaged at work. The intervention focused specifically on impacting assertiveness, self-efficacy, and resilience. We hypothesized that the intervention would increase work engagement through an increase in personal resources. Participants were all enrolled for a personal resources training and were assigned to training intervention groups (n = 54) or waiting-list control groups (n = 48). Results of multivariate analyses of variance supported our hypotheses that the intervention increased personal resources, strengths use, and work engagement. In addition, process analyses using a bootstrapping procedure showed that in the intervention group (not in the control group), the intervention had a positive impact on changes in work engagement through changes in self-efficacy and resilience.

Thus, 136 kindergarteners (Mage = 56; 61 girls), all native speakers of Arabic and with middle-low socioeconomic background, were assigned to a 10-session (2 months) program in 1 of 4 intervention conditions wherein nursery rhymes related/not related to the alphabet, were either repeatedly recited or listened to. The achievements of children in the intervention conditions were compared to those of peers that were given nonlinguistic activity of similar length (control). The four intervention groups improved their performance at the postintervention assessment in all tests of MSA aptitude and outperformed the control group in receptive and expressive vocabulary and listening comprehension. Also, the reciting groups were better than the control and listening groups in tests assessing vocabulary and morpho-syntactic sensitivity. Our results highlight the contribution of structured interventions based on rhyme repetition to MSA proficiency of kindergarteners. Moreover, the results suggest that reciting may be superior to listening in advancing language proficiency in preschoolers. The most common practice is to represent EF ability as a reflective latent variable, with child performance on individual EF tasks as observed indicators. The current article critically evaluates the dominant use of reflective latent variable models in the child EF literature and compares them to composite models, a reasonable alternative. We review the literature suggesting that reflective latent variable models may not be the most appropriate representation of the construct of EF. Using preschool (Mage = 48.3 months) and first grade (Mage = 83.5 months) data from the Family Life Project (N = 920), we also investigate the implications of measurement model specification for the interpretation of study findings. Children in this sample varied in terms of sex (49% male), race (43% black) and socioeconomic status (76% low-income). Our findings show that the conclusions we draw from 2 substantive analyses differ depending on whether EF is modeled as a reflective latent variable versus a composite variable. We describe the implications of these findings for research on child EF and offer practical recommendations for producers and consumers of developmental research. Following job demands-resources theory, we argue that when employees strengthen their beliefs regarding how much control they have over their environment (i.e., increase their personal resources) and use their character strengths, they will be more engaged at work. The intervention focused specifically on impacting assertiveness, self-efficacy, and resilience. We hypothesized that the intervention would increase work engagement through an increase in personal resources. Participants were all enrolled for a personal resources training and were assigned to training intervention groups (n = 54) or waiting-list control groups (n = 48). Results of multivariate analyses of variance supported our hypotheses that the intervention increased personal resources, strengths use, and work engagement. In addition, process analyses using a bootstrapping procedure showed that in the intervention group (not in the control group), the intervention had a positive impact on changes in work engagement through changes in self-efficacy and resilience.

Bird and bat flight muscles have different metabolic rates that reflect differences in energetic efficiencies while having similar contractile machinery that is under the selection of similar natural environments. The significantly lower efficiency of insect flight muscles along with minimized energy expenditure in Ca2+ handling is discussed as a potential mechanism to increase the efficiency of mammalian striated muscles.

It was suggested that stool retention could be confirmed by observing the hyperechoic region of the rectum. Strong hyperechoic regions with acoustic shadows in the rectum indicate the presence of hard stools, thus enabling medical workers to identify constipation. This cross-sectional study was conducted at a hospital in Toyota, Japan, from January 2015 to June 2016. Pregnant women who visited the hospital and were diagnosed with GDM in the second trimester were enrolled. We analyzed depression symptoms using the Centers for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) and considered related factors of depression symptoms, such as dietary intake and daily walking. Dietary intake during the past month was assessed using a brief self-administered diet history questionnaire, and daily walking was assessed using an accelerometer. The prevalence rate for GDM was 8.8%, and 25 pregnant women with GDM were analyzed. The CES-D was not significantly correlated with pre-pregnancy BMI, postprandial plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and the number of steps walked. In contrast, a significant negative correlation was observed between the CES-D score and intake of fish with bones, simmered fish, pickles, green leaves, mushrooms, and green tea. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was found between Coke® and CES-D scores. For nutrient intake, a significant negative correlation was found between the CES-D score and vitamin K, folate, and β-carotene levels. The present study suggests that depression symptoms among pregnant women with GDM in the second trimester may be associated with diet.We report a case of a 65-year-old patient with hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and hyperuricemia, who showed an improvement in lifestyle-induced metabolic syndrome on the administration of 7.5 g of Kangen-karyu extract per day for 6 months. Other parameters such as estimated glomerular filtration rate, creatinine, uric acid, aspartate transaminase, alanine aminotransferase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, and creatine phosphokinase were improved by the administration of Kangen-karyu extract. At that time, the physical and subjective symptoms had partially disappeared. Inhibitors of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4), an enzyme that degrades GIP and GLP-1, are widely used clinically as a therapeutic agent for diabetes. However, the effects of DPP-4 inhibitors on bone metabolism remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects of linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, on bone fragility induced by type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Non-diabetic **** were used as controls, and T2DM **** were administered linagliptin orally on a daily basis for 12 weeks. In T2DM ****, decreased bone mineral density was observed in the lower limb bones along with low serum osteocalcin levels and high serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRAP) levels. In contrast, the decreased serum osteocalcin levels and increased serum TRAP levels observed in T2DM **** were significantly suppressed after the administration of linagliptin 30 mg/kg. Bone histomorphometric analysis revealed a reduced osteoid volume and osteoblast surface with an increase in the eroded surface and number of osteoclasts in T2DM ****. This decreased bone formation and increased bone resorption observed in the T2DM **** were suppressed and trabecular bone volume increased following the administration of 30 mg/kg linagliptin. Collectively, these findings suggest that linagliptin may improve the microstructure of trabecular bone by inhibiting both a decrease in bone formation and an increase in bone resorption induced by T2DM.The bark of Cinnamomum bejolghota (****.-Ham.) Sweet (C. bejolghota) is widely used as medicine to treat bacterial diarrhea in Myanmar. We previously reported that the bark extract of C. bejolghota significantly inhibited secretion effector proteins of the type three secretion system (T3SS) in Salmonella. This study is designed to investigate the anti-virulence potential of the C. bejolghota bark extract against Salmonella Typhimuriumin in in vivo and in vitro experiments. The results suggested that the polar fraction Fr.M1 inhibited the secretion of effector proteins SipA, SipB, SipC and SipD without affecting bacteria growth and the translocation of SipC into MDA-MB-231 cells. In addition, Fr.M1 alleviated inflammatory symptoms of **** in Salmonella-infected mouse model. Overall, the results provide evidence for medicinal usage of C. bejolghota bark to treat diarrhea in Myanmar.

We previously reported that the bark extract of C. bejolghota significantly inhibited secretion effector proteins of the type three secretion system (T3SS) in Salmonella. This study is designed to investigate the anti-virulence potential of the C. bejolghota bark extract against Salmonella Typhimuriumin in in vivo and in vitro experiments. The results suggested that the polar fraction Fr.M1 inhibited the secretion of effector proteins SipA, SipB, SipC and SipD without affecting bacteria growth and the translocation of SipC into MDA-MB-231 cells. In addition, Fr.M1 alleviated inflammatory symptoms of mice in Salmonella-infected mouse model. Overall, the results provide evidence for medicinal usage of C. bejolghota bark to treat diarrhea in Myanmar.
