Attenuating Human immunodeficiency virus Tat/TAR-mediated necessary protein term by studying the part sequence length of favorably incurred elements.
OBJECTIVES To assess the association of cholecystectomy with the risk of prostate cancer in patients with gallstones. METHODS This nationwide population-based cohort study was conducted by retrieving the Longitudinal Health Insurance Research Database (LHID2000) for inpatient claims in the Taiwan National Health Insurance (NHI) program. The study cohort consisted of 72,606 men aged 20 years with gallstones undergoing cholecystectomy between 2000 and 2010. The control cohort consisted of the men with gallstones, but without cholecystectomy, by 11 propensity score matching with the study cohort based on age, sex, urbanization, occupation, comorbidities, and the index date. We compared the hazard ratio of prostate cancer between both of the cohorts. RESULTS The incidence of prostate cancer was 0.76/1000 person-years for the non-cholecystectomy cohort and 1.28/1000 person-years for the cholecystectomy cohort [aHR (adjusted hazard ratio) = 1.67, 95% confidence interval (CI = 1.45-1.92), respectively (p 5 years, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Cholecystectomy is associated with an increased hazard ratio of prostate cancer in gallstones patients, and the risk increases with an incremental period of follow-up. This observational study cannot ascertain the detrimental mechanisms of cholecystectomy for the development of prostate cancer, and cholecystectomy is not recommended for the prevention of prostate cancer based on our study.Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a serious and rapidly growing threat to human beings. Thus, the coaxial electrospinning nanofibers encapsulating emodin in the core of hydrophilic poly (vinylpyrrolidone), with a hygroscopic cellulose acetate sheath, have been fabricated to provide long-term effect against MRSA. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the nanofibers had a linear morphology with nanometer in diameter, smooth surface, and core-shell structure. Attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectra, X-ray diffraction patterns, and differential scanning calorimetric analyses verified emodin existed in amorphous form in the nanofibers. The nanofibers have 99.38 ± 1.00% entrapment efficiency of emodin and 167.8 ± 0.20 % swelling ratio. Emodin released from nanofibers showed a biphasic drug release profile with an initial rapid release followed by a slower sustained release. CCK-8 assays confirmed the nontoxic nature of the emodin-loaded nanofibers to HaCaT cells. The anti-MRSA activity of the nanofibers can persist up to 9 days in AATCC147 and soft-agar overlay assays. These findings suggest that the emodin-loaded electrospun nanofibers with core-shell structure could be used as topical drug delivery system for wound infected by MRSA.This work is a pioneer attempt to fabricate quasi-solid dye-sensitized solar cell (QSDDSC) based on organosoluble starch derivative. Rheological characterizations of the PhSt-HEC blend based gels exhibited viscoelastic properties favorable for electrolyte fabrication. From amplitude sweep and tack test analyses, it was evident that the inclusion of LiI improved the rigidity and tack property of the gels. On the other hand, the opposite was true for TPAI based gels, which resulted in less rigid and tacky electrolytes. The crystallinity of the gels was found to decline with increasing amount of salt in both systems. The highest photoconversion efficiency of 3.94% was recorded upon addition of 12.5 wt % TPAI and this value is one of the highest DSSC performance recorded for starch based electrolytes. Symmetry-breaking transitions are a well-understood phenomenon of closed quantum systems in quantum optics, condensed matter, and high energy physics. https://www.selleckchem.com/ However, symmetry breaking in open systems is less thoroughly understood, in part due to the richer steady-state and symmetry structure that such systems possess. For the prototypical open system-a Lindbladian-a unitary symmetry can be imposed in a "weak" or a "strong" way. We characterize the possible Z_n symmetry-breaking transitions for both cases. In the case of Z_2, a weak-symmetry-broken phase guarantees at most a classical bit steady-state structure, while a strong-symmetry-broken phase admits a partially protected steady-state qubit. Viewing photonic cat qubits through the lens of strong-symmetry breaking, we show how to dynamically recover the logical information after any gap-preserving strong-symmetric error; such recovery becomes perfect exponentially quickly in the number of photons. Our study forges a connection between driven-dissipative phase transitions and error correction.The photoluminescence (PL) characterization spectrum has been widely used to study the electronic energy levels. Ho^3+ is one of the commonly used doping elements to provide the PL with concentration limited to 1% atomic ratio. Here, we present a tricolor PL achieved in pyrochlore Ho_2Sn_2O_7 through pressure treatment at room temperature, which makes a non-PL material to a strong multiband PL material with Ho^3+ at the regular lattice site with 18.2% concentration. Under a high pressure compression-decompression treatment up to 78.0 GPa, the Ho_2Sn_2O_7 undergoes pyrochlore (Fd 3m), to cotunnite (Pnma), then amorphous phase transition with different Ho^3+ coordinations and site symmetries. The PL emerged from 31.2 GPa when the pyrochlore to cotunnite phase transition took place with the breakdown of site symmetry and enhanced hybridization of Ho^3+ 4f and 5d orbitals. Upon decompression, the materials became an amorphous state with a partial retaining of the defected cotunnite phase, accompanied with a large enhancement of red-dominant tricolor PL from the ion pair cross-relaxation effect in the low-symmetry (C_1) site, in which two distinct Ho^3+ emission centers (S center and L center) are present.The Coulomb drag effect has been observed as a tiny current induced by both electron-hole asymmetry and interactions in normal coupled quantum dot devices. In the present work we show that the effect can be boosted by replacing one of the normal electrodes by a superconducting one. Moreover, we show that at low temperatures and for sufficiently strong coupling to the superconducting lead, the Coulomb drag is dominated by Andreev processes, is robust against details of the system parameters, and can be controlled with a single gate voltage. This mechanism can be distinguished from single-particle contributions by a sign inversion of the drag current.Motivated by the possible presence of deconfined quark matter in neutron stars and their mergers and the important role of transport phenomena in these systems, we perform the first-ever systematic study of different viscosities and conductivities of dense quark matter using the gauge/gravity duality. In superconducting circuits, two-qubit gates are typically based either on rf-controlled interactions or on the in situ tunability of qubit frequencies. Here, we present an alternative approach using a tunable cross-Kerr-type ZZ interaction between two qubits, which we realize with a flux-tunable coupler element. We control the ZZ-coupling rate over 3 orders of magnitude to perform a rapid (38 ns), high-contrast, low leakage (0.14±0.24%) conditional phase CZ gate with a fidelity of 97.9±0.7% as measured in interleaved randomized benchmarking without relying on the resonant interaction with a noncomputational state. Furthermore, by exploiting the direct nature of the ZZ coupling, we easily access the entire conditional phase gate family by adjusting only a single control parameter.Bond-dependent magnetic interactions can generate exotic phases such as Kitaev spin-liquid states. Experimentally determining the values of bond-dependent interactions is a challenging but crucial problem. Here, I show that each symmetry-allowed nearest-neighbor interaction on triangular and honeycomb lattices has a distinct signature in paramagnetic neutron-diffraction data, and that such data contain sufficient information to determine the spin Hamiltonian unambiguously via unconstrained fits. Moreover, I show that bond-dependent interactions can often be extracted from powder-averaged data. These results facilitate experimental determination of spin Hamiltonians for materials that do not show conventional magnetic ordering.The standard definition of genuine multipartite entanglement stems from the need to assess the quantum control over an ever-growing number of quantum systems. We argue that this notion is easy to hack in fact, a source capable of distributing bipartite entanglement can, by itself, generate genuine k-partite entangled states for any k. We propose an alternative definition for genuine multipartite entanglement, whereby a quantum state is genuinely network k-entangled if it cannot be produced by applying local trace-preserving maps over several (k-1)-partite states distributed among the parties, even with the aid of global shared randomness. We provide analytic and numerical witnesses of genuine network entanglement, and we reinterpret many past quantum experiments as demonstrations of this feature.Quantum nonlocality can be observed in networks even in the case where every party can only perform a single measurement, i.e., does not receive any input. So far, this effect has been demonstrated under the assumption that all sources in the network are fully independent from each other. Here we investigate to what extent this independence assumption can be relaxed. After formalizing the question, we show that, in the triangle network without inputs, quantum nonlocality can be observed, even when assuming only an arbitrarily small level of independence between the sources. This means that quantum predictions cannot be reproduced by a local model unless the three sources can be perfectly correlated.

MATERIALS AND METHODS Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, flow cytometry, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining were performed to evaluate the effects of SAC on the hydroquinone-treated human ARPE19 cells. The Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production was measured by virtue of flow cytometry or determined under an inverted fluorescence microscope. Furthermore, the expression of antioxidant factor Nrf2, as well as downstream antioxidant genes, including NQO1, SOD1, SOD2, and HO1 was assessed in hydroquinone stimulated ARPE19 cells, in the presence or absence of SAC pretreatment. Therefore, this review aimed to (1) conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature evaluating training interventions upon short-sprint performance within football code athletes, (2) undertake a meta-analysis to assess the magnitude of change of sport-sprint performance following training interventions and (3) identify how moderator variables affect the training response.

To describe the current geographic distribution and prevalence of antigen of Dirofilaria immitis and antibody to Borrelia burgdorferi, Ehrlichia spp., and Anaplasma spp. in dogs, we summarized over 144million test results from 2013 to 2019, inclusive, by county, state, and region. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common serious complication in critically ill patients. AKI occurs in up to 50% patients in intensive care unit (ICU), with poor clinical prognosis. Renal replacement therapy (RRT) has been widely used in critically ill patients with AKI. However, in patients without urgent indications such as acute pulmonary edema, severe acidosis, and severe hyperkalemia, the optimal timing of RRT initiation is still under debate. We conducted this systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA) to compare the effects of early RRT initiation versus delayed RRT initiation.
We searched databases (PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library) from inception through to July 20, 2020, to identify eligible RCTs. The primary outcome was 28-day mortality. Two authors extracted the data independently. When the I

We described three parametric methods for finding the optimal combination of biomarkers in a personalised treatment recommendation, using randomised trial data a regression approach that models outcome using treatment by biomarker interactions; an approach proposed by Kraemer that forms a combined measure from individual biomarker weights, calculated on all treated and control pairs; and a novel modification of Kraemer's approach that utilises a prognostic score to sample matched treated and control subjects. To analyze the trends in REBOA use, we conducted a review of the literature and identified articles with human or animal data that fit the respective inclusion and exclusion criteria. However, we could not find any evidence for cytoplasmic incompatibility associated with Rickettsia presence. Our previous study identified a tetradecapeptide derived from Trichinella spiralis paramyosin (Ts-pmy) that could bind to human complement component C9 to inhibit its polymerization, making the peptide a candidate therapeutic agent for complement-related immune disorders. Here, the peptide underwent an N-terminal modification with a membrane-targeting signal (a unique myristoylated peptide) to improve its therapeutic efficacy. We found that the modified peptide had a binding affinity to human C9 that was similar to that of the original peptide, as confirmed by microscale thermophoresis assays. The binding of the modified peptide to human C9 resulted in the inhibition of C9-related complement activation, as reflected by the decreased Zn2+-induced C9 polymerization and the decreased C9-dependent lysis of rabbit erythrocytes. In addition, the original and modified peptides could both bind to recombinant mouse C9 and inhibit the C9-dependent lysis of rabbit erythrocytes in normal mouse serum (NMS), which meant that the peptides could cross the species barrier to inhibit complement activity in ****. In crosses with infected males and infected females, however (the "rescue" cross), normal numbers of offspring are produced. A common CI-inducing symbiont, Cardinium hertigii, causes variable levels of CI mortality in the parasitoid wasp, Encarsia suzannae. Previous work correlated CI-induced mortality with male development time in this system, although the timing of Cardinium CI-induction and the relationship between development time and CI mortality was not well understood. Here, using a combination of crosses, manipulation of development time, and fluorescence microscopy, we identify the localization and the timing of the CI-induction step in the Cardinium-E. suzannae system. Antibiotic treatment of adult Cardinium-infected males did not reduce the mortality associated with the CI phenotype, suggesting that CI-alteration occurs prior to adulthood. Our results suggest that the alteration step occurs during the pupal period, and is limited by the duration of pupal development 1) Encarsia produces most sperm prior to adulthood, 2) FISH localization of Cardinium in testes showed an association with sperm nuclei throughout spermatogenesis but not with mature sperm, and 3) two methods of prolonging the pupal period (cool temperatures and the juvenile hormone analog methoprene) both caused greater CI mortality, suggesting the degree of alteration is limited by the duration of the pupal stage. We characterized the root and rhizosphere fungal communities associated with healthy and diseased watermelons of three different cultivars with different susceptibilities toward wilt disease by paired-end Illumina MiSeq sequencing. Thirty watermelon plants including highly wilt-resistant, moderately resistant, and susceptible cultivars were collected from a greenhouse, half of which showing clear wilt symptoms and the other half with no symptoms. Patterns of watermelon wilt disease and the response of the fungal communities varied among the three cultivars. The amount of the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum was higher in diseased root and rhizosphere samples, particularly in the susceptible cultivar, and was significantly positively correlated with the disease index of Fusarium wilt.

METHODS A total of 1,720 consecutive patients who underwent curative gastrectomy were retrospectively identified. The association between LVI and clinicopathologic characteristics was determined and its impact on survival outcome was evaluated. RESULTS LVI was detected in 21.3% of GC patients, 5.9% of patients with early GC, 24.0% of patients with advanced GC, and 6.7% of node-negative patients using H&E staining. Tumor size (odds ratio [OR], 1.509; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.159-1.965; P less then .01), differentiated type (OR, 1.817; 95% CI, 1.377-2.398; P less then .001), and the depth of tumor invasion (OR, 3.011; 95% CI, 2.174-4.171; P less then .001) were independent predictive factors for LVI. LVI-positive patients have a poorer prognosis than LVI-negative patients, irrespective of tumor stage or lymph node metastasis. LVI was an independent prognostic factor for patients with GC (hazard ratio, 1.299; 95% CI, 1.112-1.518; P less then .001). Studies that evaluate accuracy of these scores in ICU patients admitted with pneumonia are lacking. This study aims to determine performance of severity scores as predictors of mortality in critically ill patients admitted with pneumonia. METHODS Prospective cohort study in a general ICU in Brazil. ICU severity scores (SAPS 3 and qSOFA), prognostic scores of pneumonia (CURB-65 and CRB-65), clinical and epidemiological variables in the first 6 hours of hospitalization were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 200 patients were included between August 2015 and July 2018 with a median age of 81 years (IQR 67-90) and female predominance (52%) primarily admitted from the emergency department (65%) with community acquired pneumonia (80.5%). Poor discriminative performance in predicting mortality was found with SAPS 3, CURB-65, CRB-65 and qSOFA. Multivariate regression identified variables independently associated with mortality that were used to develop a novel pneumonia specific ICU severity score (Pneumonia SHOCK score) that outperformed SAPS3, CURB-65 and CRB-65 (AUC 0.80 vs 0.74, 0.65 and 0.63, respectively). Discriminate function of the Pneumonia SHOCK score was validated in an external multi-center cohort of critically ill patients admitted with community acquired pneumonia (AUC 0.81). CONCLUSIONS We created a parsimonious score system that accurately identifies elderly and non-elderly patients with pneumonia at highest risk of ICU death. Histology and MT were concordant, discordant, and indeterminate in 53% (25/47), 21% (10/47), and 26% (12/47) of cases, respectively. CHA of the 10 discordant cases revised results of three cases. CONCLUSIONS There is discordance between histology and MT in a subset of cases and MT provides an objective surrogate for staging synchronous tumors. A limited gene panel is sufficient for objectively assessing a relationship if the driver mutations are distinct. METHODS A total of 1,720 consecutive patients who underwent curative gastrectomy were retrospectively identified. The association between LVI and clinicopathologic characteristics was determined and its impact on survival outcome was evaluated. RESULTS LVI was detected in 21.3% of GC patients, 5.9% of patients with early GC, 24.0% of patients with advanced GC, and 6.7% of node-negative patients using H&E staining. Tumor size (odds ratio [OR], 1.509; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.159-1.965; P less then .01), differentiated type (OR, 1.817; 95% CI, 1.377-2.398; P less then .001), and the depth of tumor invasion (OR, 3.011; 95% CI, 2.174-4.171; P less then .001) were independent predictive factors for LVI. LVI-positive patients have a poorer prognosis than LVI-negative patients, irrespective of tumor stage or lymph node metastasis. LVI was an independent prognostic factor for patients with GC (hazard ratio, 1.299; 95% CI, 1.112-1.518; P less then .001). Studies that evaluate accuracy of these scores in ICU patients admitted with pneumonia are lacking. This study aims to determine performance of severity scores as predictors of mortality in critically ill patients admitted with pneumonia. METHODS Prospective cohort study in a general ICU in Brazil. ICU severity scores (SAPS 3 and qSOFA), prognostic scores of pneumonia (CURB-65 and CRB-65), clinical and epidemiological variables in the first 6 hours of hospitalization were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 200 patients were included between August 2015 and July 2018 with a median age of 81 years (IQR 67-90) and female predominance (52%) primarily admitted from the emergency department (65%) with community acquired pneumonia (80.5%). Poor discriminative performance in predicting mortality was found with SAPS 3, CURB-65, CRB-65 and qSOFA. Multivariate regression identified variables independently associated with mortality that were used to develop a novel pneumonia specific ICU severity score (Pneumonia SHOCK score) that outperformed SAPS3, CURB-65 and CRB-65 (AUC 0.80 vs 0.74, 0.65 and 0.63, respectively). Discriminate function of the Pneumonia SHOCK score was validated in an external multi-center cohort of critically ill patients admitted with community acquired pneumonia (AUC 0.81). CONCLUSIONS We created a parsimonious score system that accurately identifies elderly and non-elderly patients with pneumonia at highest risk of ICU death. The TRxANSITION Index-Parent Version contains two domains the Parent Knowledge Domain assessing a parent's knowledge of their youth's illness, and the Parent Proxy Domain, which provides a parental perspective regarding a youth's transition readiness skills. We evaluated the TRxANSITION Index - Parent Version for differences between parent and youth reports of HCT readiness, associations between parent's score and youth's characteristics, and item-category, item-sub-index, and sub-index category correlations.
Data from 93 parents-youth dyads were analyzed. We propose the class Phaeosacciophyceae class. nov., that includes Phaeosaccion collinsii, Phaeosaccion multiseriatum sp. nov., Phaeosaccion okellyi sp. nov., Antarctosaccion applanatum, Tetrasporopsis fuscescens, Tetrasporopsis moei sp. nov., and Psammochrysis cassiotisii gen. & sp. nov. We re-examine the literature for Chrysomeris, Nematochrysis, Chrysowaernella and the invalid name "Giraudyopsis" and conclude some taxa in previous studies are misidentified or misnamed, i.e. Chrysomeris and Chrysowaernella, respectively. We also show that Nematochrysis sessilis var. vectensis and Nematochrysis hieroglyphica may belong in the recently described class Chrysoparadoxophyceae. The phylogenetic relationships of Phaeobotrys solitaria and Pleurochloridella botrydiopsis are not clearly resolved, but they branch near the Xanthophyceae. We conducted a meta-analysis of 120 estimates of the association between family SES and child psychopathology in 13 population-representative cohorts of children studied in the US since 1980. Among 26,715 participants aged 3-19 years, we observed small to moderate associations of low family income (g = 0.19), low Hollingshead index (g = 0.21), low subjective SES (g = 0.24), low parental education (g = 0.25), poverty status (g = 0.25), and receipt of public assistance (g = 0.32) with higher levels of childhood psychopathology. Moderator testing revealed that receipt of public assistance showed an especially strong association with psychopathology and that SES was more strongly related to externalizing than internalizing psychopathology. Dispersion in our final, random effects, model suggested that the relation between SES and child psychopathology is likely to vary in different populations of children and in different communities. National nursing education strategies and recommendations from professional associations have identified digital health as an area that needs investment. This case study describes how health informatics is being integrated into a Bachelor of Nursing programme in the United Kingdom. An international collaboration with a US-UK Fulbright Specialist Scholar enabled individual learning units corresponding to key health informatics competencies to be designed and incorporated into a pedagogic framework grounded in the spiral learning approach. This approach is proposed as one way to integrate informatics into nursing education, so students can become competent clinicians that are able to deliver technology enabled care in the health service.

In Da Nang, almost half of the subjects had blood 2,3,7,8-tetraCDD concentrations in the range of 10-100 pg/g lipid. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of the novel submerged flat-sheet NF membrane module to achieve low fouling propensity and high separation performance during the direct filtration of surface water. Laboratory-scale NF tests showed that the transmembrane pressure (TMP) increased only by 10 kPa over 24 d during the direct treatment of river and dam water. The NF system showed high (>80%) and stable rejection of color and organics, as well as low and variable conductivity rejection (28-47%). The rejection of negatively charged trace organic chemicals (TOrCs) was >50%, while that of uncharged or positively charged TOrCs was 70%, which was greater than the conventional rapid sand filtration system with powdered activated carbon and intermediate chlorine doses (TOC removal = 20-60%). It advanced the understanding of the quantitative health risks of equipping individuals with various PPE.Organic fertilizers became a better alternative to chemical fertilizers in modern agricultural practices however, contamination of copper (Cu) from organic fertilizer is still a major concern for the globe. Plant growth promoting (PGP) microorganisms showed their efficiency to combat with this problem and thus Cu tolerant PGP endophytes from roots of Odontarrhena obovata (Alyssum obovatum) growing on Cu smelter contaminated serpentine soil were explored in present study. Out of twenty-four isolates, Pseudomonas lurida strain EOO26 identified by 16s rRNA gene sequencing was selected to check its efficacy for Cu-remediation. The strain EOO26 showed multi-metal tolerance, drought resistance and exhibited PGP attributes such as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase, siderophore and ammonia production. Significant production of indole-3-acetic acid and phosphate-solubilization under different Cu concentration (0-100 mg L-1) at varying pH (5.0-8.0) suggests potentiality of this strain to work effectively under wide range of abiotic stress conditions. Plant growth experiment (pH 6.8 ± 0.3) in copper spiked soil suggested a significant increase in length and dry weight of root and shoot of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) after inoculation with strain EOO26. Plants inoculated with strain EOO26 resulted in increase in Cu uptake by 8.6-fold for roots and 1.9-fold for leaves than uninoculated plants. The total plant uptake in inoculated Cu treatment was 2.6-fold higher than uninoculated one, which is **** higher than the previously reported Cu accumulating plants. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of the novel submerged flat-sheet NF membrane module to achieve low fouling propensity and high separation performance during the direct filtration of surface water. Laboratory-scale NF tests showed that the transmembrane pressure (TMP) increased only by 10 kPa over 24 d during the direct treatment of river and dam water. The NF system showed high (>80%) and stable rejection of color and organics, as well as low and variable conductivity rejection (28-47%). The rejection of negatively charged trace organic chemicals (TOrCs) was >50%, while that of uncharged or positively charged TOrCs was 70%, which was greater than the conventional rapid sand filtration system with powdered activated carbon and intermediate chlorine doses (TOC removal = 20-60%). The strain EOO26 showed multi-metal tolerance, drought resistance and exhibited PGP attributes such as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase, siderophore and ammonia production. Significant production of indole-3-acetic acid and phosphate-solubilization under different Cu concentration (0-100 mg L-1) at varying pH (5.0-8.0) suggests potentiality of this strain to work effectively under wide range of abiotic stress conditions. Plant growth experiment (pH 6.8 ± 0.3) in copper spiked soil suggested a significant increase in length and dry weight of root and shoot of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) after inoculation with strain EOO26. Plants inoculated with strain EOO26 resulted in increase in Cu uptake by 8.6-fold for roots and 1.9-fold for leaves than uninoculated plants. The aim of this study was to summarize the incidence of OCD in HCWs. We searched the databases PubMed/MEDLINE (1980-present), EMBASE (1980-present) and Cochrane Library (1992-present) through May 2020 using the search term 'incidence of contact dermatitis in HCWs' according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Overall, 16 studies (six cohorts; 10 register-based) with follow-up periods between 1987 and 2013 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The incidence of OCD reported in studies using registers of occupational diseases ranged from 0.6 to 6.7 per 10 000 person-years. The cohort studies reported incidence from 15.9 to 780.0 per 10 000 person-years; the incidence was higher in studies which included apprentice nurses. We found that Gper1a induced phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in 293T cells transfected with medaka Gper1s on exposure to the natural estrogen, 17β-estradiol (E2) and a synthetic Gper1 agonist (G-1), and treatment with both E2 and G-1 also decreased the rate of spontaneous maturation in medaka oocytes. These findings show that the processes for oocyte growth and maturation are sensitive to estrogens and are possibly mediated through Gper1a in medaka. We also show that 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), one of the most potent estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and bisphenol A (BPA, a weak environmental estrogen) augmented phosphorylation of MAPK through medaka Gper1s in 293T cells. Interestingly, however, treatment with EE2 or BPA did not attenuate maturation of medaka oocytes. Our findings support that Gper1-mediated effects on oocytes are conserved among fish species, but effects of estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals on oocytes acting through Gper1 may be divergent among fish species.Studies assessing the biological impacts of climate change typically rely on long-term, historic data to measure trait responses to climate through time. We found a total of 43 species from southeastern Australia for which modern/historic seed pairs could be located. These species were located in a range of regions that have undergone different amounts of climate change across a range of temperature, precipitation, and extreme measures of climate. There was a correlation between the amount of change in climate metrics, and the amount of change in plant traits. Using stepwise model selection, we found that for all regeneration and growth trait changes (except change in stem density), the most accurate model selected at least two measures of climate change. Changes in extreme measures of climate, such as heat-wave duration and changes in climate variability, were more strongly related to changes in regeneration and growth traits than changes in mean climate metrics. Across our species, for every 5% increase in temperature variability, there was a threefold increase in the probability of seed viability and seed germination success. An increase of 1 d in the maximum duration of dry spells through time led to a 1.5-fold decrease in seed viability and seeds became 30% flatter/thinner. Regions where the maximum heat-wave duration had increased by 10 d saw a 1.35-cm decrease in seedling height and a 1.04-g decrease in seedling biomass. Rapid responses in plant traits to changes in climate may be possible; however, it is not clear whether these changes will be fast enough for plants to keep pace with future climate change.
