Here we investigated how trees allocate storage of non-structural carbohydrates (NSC) to growth, constitutive and induced secondary metabolites (SM). We exposed Norway spruce (Picea abies) saplings to 5 weeks of complete darkness to induce light and/or carbon limitation and then applied methyl jasmonate (MeJA) to simulate biotic attack. We measured changes in biomass, NSC (sum of soluble sugars and starches), constitutive and induced SM (sum of phenolic compounds and terpenoids) in current-year developing and previous-year mature needles and branches, as well as volatiles emitted from the canopy. Under darkness, NSC storage was preferentially used for constitutive biosynthesis of monoterpenes rather than biosynthesis of stilbenes and growth of developing organs, while secondary metabolites stored in mature organs cannot be remobilized and recycled. 73 m2, 137 (28.7%) progressed to renal failure (eGFR less then 60 mL/minute/1.73 m2). A decreasing eGFR was associated with age ≥ 75 years, CHF, lower baseline eGFR, and LAD ≥ 45 mm. CHF, proteinuria, type of AF, and LAD ≥ 45 mm were associated with eGFR decline ≥ 30% in AF patients with CKD stages 1-3. Advanced age, CHF, lower baseline eGFR, and LAD ≥ 45 mm were associated with progression to renal insufficiency. These results should be considered when identifying patients who require more frequent monitoring of eGFR.The efficacy and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF) with coronary or peripheral artery disease (*** or PAD) remain largely unresolved. We, therefore, conducted a meta-analysis to explore the effect of NOACs compared with warfarin in these populations.We systematically searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Embase databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving NOACs versus warfarin in AF patients with *** or PAD. A random-effect model was selected to pool the risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).A total of 7 RCTs were included. In AF patients with ***, compared with warfarin use, the use of NOACs was associated with reduced risks of stroke/systemic embolism (RR 0.82; 95% CI 0.70-0.96) and intracranial hemorrhage (RR 0.41; 95% CI 0.26-0.63), but NOACs versus warfarin showed similar risks of all-cause death (RR 0.95; 95% CI 0.86-1.05), cardiovascular death (RR 0.95; 95% CI 0.80-1.13), stroke (RR 0.80; 95% CI 0.64-1.00), myocardial infarction (RR 1.00; 95% CI 0.83-1.21), and major bleeding (RR 0.82; 95% CI 0.65-1.04). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, NLR as well as age, BMI, and SBP were associated with LVH. In addition, in patients with eccentric and concentric hypertrophy, the NLR and CRP and BNP levels were higher than those of the normal left ventricular geometry and concentric remodeling groups. The cutoff values of NLR, CRP, and BNP obtained by ROC curve were 2.185, 2.205, and 283.45, respectively, for the prediction of LVH. The common alleles of HLA were -A*0201, -B*5101, and -C*0304 which were carried by three patients (60%) for each allele. The patient with CBZ-induced DRESS syndrome carried the HLA-A* 3101 allele. One patient with CBZ-induced SJS and one patient with VPA-induced SJS carried the HLA-B*1511 allele. In view of these circumstances, 'drug repurposing' (or 'drug repositioning') has appeared as an alternative tool to accelerate drug development process by seeking new indications for already approved drugs rather than discovering de novo drug compounds, nowadays accounting for 30% of newly marked drugs in the U.S. In the meantime, the explosive and large-scale growth of molecular, genomic and phenotypic data of pharmacological compounds is enabling the development of new area of drug repurposing called computational drug repurposing. This review provides an overview of recent progress in the area of computational drug repurposing. First, it summarizes available repositioning strategies, followed by computational methods commonly used. Then, it describes validation techniques for repurposing studies. Finally, it concludes by discussing the remaining challenges in computational repurposing. We also describe two approximation approaches, steady-state approximation, and equilibrium approximation, to simplify the solutions. Usually, apixaban concentrations are indirectly quantified using an anti-factor Xa assay. However, this method has a relatively narrow analytical concentration range, poor selectivity, and requires an external calibrator. Therefore, the goal of current study was to establish an analytical method for determining plasma levels of apixaban using ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). To this end, apixaban was separated using 2.5 mM ammonium formate (pH 3.0) (A) and 100% methanol containing 0.1% formic acid (B) using the gradient method with a Thermo hypersil GOLD column. The mass detector condition was optimized using the electrospray ionization (ESI) positive mode for apixaban quantification. The developed method showed sufficient linearity (coefficient of determination [r2 ≥ 0.997]) at calibration curve ranges. The percentage (%) changes in accuracy, precision, and all stability tests were within 15% of the nominal concentration. Apixaban concentration in plasma from healthy volunteers was quantified using the developed method. The mean maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) was 371.57 ng/mL, and the median time to achieve the Cmax (Tmax) was 4 h after administration of 10 mg apixaban alone. Although the results showed low extraction efficiency (~16%), the reproducibility (% change was within 15% of nominal concentration) was reliable. Therefore, the developed method could be used for clinical pharmacokinetic studies. In this study, we recruited 23 healthy male volunteers and measured systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) over 24 hours on an hourly basis. Using a non-linear mixed effects model, circadian rhythm observed in blood pressure measurements was described by incorporating two cosine functions with periods 24 and 12 hours. A mixture model was applied to identify subgroups exhibiting qualitatively different circadian rhythms. Our results suggested that 78% of the study population, defined as 'dippers', demonstrated a typical circadian profile with a morning rise and a nocturnal dip. The remaining 22% of the subjects defined as 'non-dippers', however, were not adequately described using the typical profile and demonstrated an elevation of blood pressure during night-time. Covariate search identified weight as being positively correlated with mesor of SBP. Visual predictive checks using 1,000 simulated datasets were performed for model validation. Observations were in agreement with predicted values in 'dippers', but deviated slightly in 'non-dippers'. Our work is expected to serve as a useful reference in assessing systematic intra-day blood pressure fluctuations and antihypertensive effects as well as assessing drug safety of incrementally modified drugs. The common alleles of HLA were -A*0201, -B*5101, and -C*0304 which were carried by three patients (60%) for each allele. The patient with CBZ-induced DRESS syndrome carried the HLA-A* 3101 allele. One patient with CBZ-induced SJS and one patient with VPA-induced SJS carried the HLA-B*1511 allele. In view of these circumstances, 'drug repurposing' (or 'drug repositioning') has appeared as an alternative tool to accelerate drug development process by seeking new indications for already approved drugs rather than discovering de novo drug compounds, nowadays accounting for 30% of newly marked drugs in the U.S. In the meantime, the explosive and large-scale growth of molecular, genomic and phenotypic data of pharmacological compounds is enabling the development of new area of drug repurposing called computational drug repurposing. This review provides an overview of recent progress in the area of computational drug repurposing. First, it summarizes available repositioning strategies, followed by computational methods commonly used. Then, it describes validation techniques for repurposing studies. Finally, it concludes by discussing the remaining challenges in computational repurposing. The authors sought to examine social media utilization by academic plastic surgery training programs. METHODS Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter were queried for plastic surgery training program, program director, and chief/chair accounts. Training program posts were categorized as educational, operative, social, informational, self-promotional, visiting lecturer, research-related, and other. Factors influencing total number of followers were analyzed including number of accounts followed, frequency, total number, and types of posts as well as duration of account. Other variables included geographic location, 2018 to 2019 Doximity residency ranking, and US News and World Report rankings of affiliated hospital systems and medical schools. Social media accounts were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis, Wilcoxon rank sum, and regression analysis. RESULTS Facebook is the most popular s = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS Similar to its adoption by private practice plastic surgery, social media use in academic plastic surgery is growing exponentially. Now, over half of residency programs have Instagram accounts. Program leaders are using Facebook and Instagram primarily for personal use and Twitter for professional use. Programs affiliated with a top-ranked hospital or ranked highly by Doximity have more followers on social media.INTRODUCTION Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a severe complication after a total knee replacement that is primarily associated with soft tissue defects. Finding an appropriate therapy for PJI is a major challenge because of the lack of guidelines and research comparing treatment options. METHODS In this study, we retrospectively compared 78 patients who had a knee prosthetic infection within a mean follow-up period of 24 months. Group A received a soft tissue coverage in addition to orthopedic surgical therapy with or without a component replacement (CR) of the prosthesis. Group B received the same orthopedic treatment without plastic surgery for soft tissue coverage. RESULTS Only 21% of the patients in group A received a CR compared with 70% in group B (P = 0.0001). In group A, 83% did not have a recurrent infection, and in group B, 57% of the patients had no further infection and regained joint function (P = 0.0376). In group A, only 15% of the patients who received a CR had a significant complication within the follow-up period of 2 years, whereas in group B, 75% of patients exhibiting a major complication (P = 0.0048*). CONCLUSIONS Soft tissue coverage improves the outcome after PJI of the knee with soft tissue defects. Patients who simultaneously needed plastic surgery for defect coverage and orthopedic surgery for CR had the lowest number of complications overall. Based on the results of this study, a therapy algorithm could be identified considering the soft tissue defect grade leading to the lowest major complication rates and maximizing the outcome of knee prosthesis infection therapies.Individuals with gender dysphoria often seek medical interventions, such as hormone treatment and surgery, to live as their identified gender. Cross-sex hormone therapy typically consists of various estrogen formulations which confer varying risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The aim of this review is to examine the current literature on VTE occurring in MTF transgender patients on cross-sex hormone therapy (CSHT) when undergoing various gender-affirming surgeries-facial feminization surgery (FFS), top surgery (TS), and bottom surgery (BS)-to understand how evidence-based recommendations regarding perioperative hormone regimens can be established to improve clinical outcomes. METHODS All patients submitted to thoracic wall reconstruction by the plastic surgery department from January 2012 to May 2018 in a tertiary cancer center were evaluated. RESULTS Thirty-two patients have undergone thoracic wall reconstruction. The majority of patients in our series were submitted to surgical treatment of locally advanced breast cancer (84.3%). The most common defect location was the right anterolateral region (65.6%). The latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap was the most used in thoracic wall reconstructions. Three cases of thoracectomy with rib resection were reconstructed with methylmethacrylate and polypropylene surgical mesh associated with musculocutaneous flap. Four patients presented major complications, and 12 patients (37.5%) presented minor complications. There were no deaths related to procedures or instability of thoracic wall. Twenty-two patients presented progression of the disease, and 16 died due to the primary pathology. CONCLUSIONS Extended resection of the chest wall is associated in most cases with advanced disease, especially advanced breast cancer. Despite poor prognosis associated to locally advanced disease, it is imperative to perform chest wall reconstruction and allow the patient to continue adjuvant therapy (radiotherapy or chemotherapy) and improve quality of life.

Surgery is the only potentially radical treatment of patients with retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Organ-sparing including kidney-sparing surgery is advisable for low-grade liposarcoma (G1). On the contrary, organ-sparing surgery impairs long-term results and prognosis in patients with high-grade tumors (G2-3). Combined operations including nephrectomy are justified for high-grade retroperitoneal liposarcoma (G2-3).
To improve the short-term postoperative outcomes in patients with thymoma stage I-II by using of thoracoscopic thymectomy (VATS TE) and to compare this technique with open (OTE) thymectomy.
A retrospective analysis included 98 patients who had undergone surgery for thymoma stage I and II for the period from January 2001 to December 2019. VATS TE (main group) was performed in 53 (54.1%) cases, OTE (control group) - in 45 (45.9%) patients.
Duration of VATS TE and OTE was similar. VATS procedure was characterized by less intraoperative blood loss (50 vs 225 ml,
=0.000), lower pain scores and morphine consumption (
=0.000), shorter postoperative pleural drainage (1.5 vs 3.8 days,
=0.000), and postoperative hospital-stay (7.6 vs 12.7 days,
=0.000). Incidence of major complications was significantly less in the main group (9.4% vs. 1.9%,
=0.001).

To study the causes of resistant pleural effusions and efficiency of chemical pleurodesis with Betadin, Iodopyrone and concentrated glucose solution in these patients.
Resistant pleuritis with daily exudation over 300 ml lasting ≥6 days occurred in 206 (48%) out of 424 cases of pleural effusions. Twenty-seven patients underwent chemical pleurodesis with Betadine, 15 patients - mixture of Iodopyrone with concentrated glucose solution. Solutions were injected via pleural drainage.
In multivariate analysis, the risk factors of complicated pleuritis were air leakage, prolonged drainage period, age over 60 years, fluid output volume during thoracoscopy and higher Charlson index. Pleurodesis with a mixture of Betadine 10% 10 ml and glucose 40% 40 ml suppressed exudation in 92.6% of cases. Pleurodesis with a mixture of Iodopyron and glucose solution in the same quantities was effective in 93.4% of cases. If exudation continued, pleurodesis was repeated after 3 days. VAS score of pain syndrome following Iodopyrone injection was 3.0±1.8, in case of Betadine - 3.4±0.3. To reduce the incidence of postoperative complications via reinforcement of colorectal anastomosis.
A randomized prospective study included 115 patients. In the main group (
=60), anterior resections were followed by reinforcement of colorectal anastomosis via suturing the muscular and serous layers at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 o'clock. In case of low anterior resection, all layers of intestinal wall were transanally sutured at the above-mentioned points. Reinforcement was not performed in the control group (
=55).
In the main group, overall incidence of anastomotic leakage was 8.3% (5/60), in the control group - 25.5% (14/55) (
=0.01). We also analyzed the subgroups of anastomoses with high and low risk of leakage. In case of transabdominal reinforcement, incidence of anastomotic leakage was 11% (2/18) in the main group and 0% (0/14) in the control group (

To analyze the results of thoracic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis.
The study included 166 patients aged from 15-51 years. There were 118 women and 48 men. Isolated palmar hyperhidrosis was observed in 46 patients, axillary - 46 patients, palmar-axillary - 74 cases. Video-assisted thoracic bilateral sympathectomy was performed. In patients with palmar hyperhidrosis, sympathetic chain was transected between the ribs II and III, axillary and palmar-axillary hyperhidrosis - between the ribs III and IV.
Intraoperative injury of intercostal artery occurred in 1 case. Cautery was effective. Postoperative complications occurred in 4 (2.4%) patients (pneumothorax followed by drainage for up to 2-3 days). Symptoms of hyperhidrosis disappeared early after surgery in all cases. A retrospective analysis included 98 patients who had undergone surgery for thymoma stage I and II for the period from January 2001 to December 2019. VATS TE (main group) was performed in 53 (54.1%) cases, OTE (control group) - in 45 (45.9%) patients. Duration of VATS TE and OTE was similar. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are produced by the gut microbiota and may reflect health. Gut symptoms are common in individuals with depressive disorders, and recent data indicate relationships between gut microbiota and psychiatric health. We aimed to investigate potential associations between SCFAs and self-reported depressive and gut symptoms in young adults.
Fecal samples from 164 individuals (125 were patients with psychiatric disorders mean [standard deviation] age = 21.9 [2.6] years, 14% men; 39 nonpsychiatric controls age = 28.5 [9.5] years, 38% men) were analyzed for the SCFA acetate, butyrate, and propionate by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We then compared SCFA ratios with dimensional measures of self-reported depressive and gut symptoms.
Depressive symptoms showed a positive association with acetate levels (ρ = 0.235, p = .003) and negative associations with both butyrate (ρ = -0.195, p = .014) and propionate levels (ρ = -0.201, p = .009) in relation to total SCFA levels. Furthermore, symptoms of diarrhea showed positive associations with acetate (ρ = 0.217, p = .010) and negative associations with propionate in relation to total SCFA levels (ρ = 0.229, p = 0-007). Cluster analysis revealed a heterogeneous pattern where shifts in SCFA ratios were observed in individuals with elevated levels of depressive symptoms, elevated levels of gut symptoms, or both.

Hazard ratios suggest that the effect is moderate to large (2.66-3.45 for top versus bottom third; 2.05-2.49 for top versus bottom half). Tinnitus, hearing loss and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are common conditions among veterans. Shared underlying symptoms, such as hypervigilance and heightened sense of threat, may interfere with talk-based psychological treatments. The aim was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for self-reported tinnitus and hearing loss among Australian treatment-seeking veterans, as well as links with PTSD symptoms and quality of life (QOL) following treatment.
Australian veterans participating in hospital-based PTSD treatment (n = 523) completed self-report measures of subjective hearing impairment, service-related factors, PTSD symptoms, and QOL at treatment intake and discharge, as well as 3-month and 9-month follow-ups. Univariate ANCOVAs modelled symptom change over time.Results. Over half of veterans in PTSD treatment self-reported doctor-diagnosed hearing loss or tinnitus, while 43% reported both. BACKGROUND Long-term care facilities are high-risk settings for severe outcomes from outbreaks of Covid-19, owing to both the advanced age and frequent chronic underlying health conditions of the residents and the movement of health care personnel among facilities in a region. METHODS After identification on February 28, 2020, of a confirmed case of Covid-19 in a skilled nursing facility in King County, Washington, Public Health-Seattle and King County, aided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, launched a case investigation, contact tracing, quarantine of exposed persons, isolation of confirmed and suspected cases, and on-site enhancement of infection prevention and control. RESULTS As of March 18, a total of 167 confirmed cases of Covid-19 affecting 101 residents, 50 health care personnel, and 16 visitors were found to be epidemiologically linked to the facility. Most cases among residents included respiratory illness consistent with Covid-19; however, in 7 residents no symptoms were documented. Hospitalization rates for facility residents, visitors, and staff were 54.5%, 50.0%, and 6.0%, respectively. The case fatality rate for residents was 33.7% (34 of 101). Therefore, in this investigation, neopentyl glycol is used for alcoholysis of waste PET, and glycolyzed PET product was applied for preparation of the waterborne alkyd resin. Furthermore, the waterborne alkyd-amino baking coatings were prepared from the waterborne alkyd based on glycolyzed waste PET and melamine formaldehyde resin and applied on tinplate. The waterborne alkyd-amino resin films showed excellent adhesion, balanced hardness and flexibility, high gloss and outstanding chemical resistance except for alkali resistance owing to hydrolysis of ester bonds. © 2020 The Authors.in English, Spanish Introducción en nuestro país, del total de trasplantes se reportó, en el 2014, una frecuencia del 29% de trasplante renal de donador fallecido (TRDF). El uso de riñones procedentes de donante fallecido de edad avanzada está aumentando al paso de los años. Actualmente, algunos autores consideran que a los seis meses después del trasplante los pacientes que han sido trasplantados de donador fallecido tienen una mayor supervivencia que los que siguen aún en tratamiento sustitutivo con diálisis. Objetivo observar y describir los resultados de la función y sobrevida del injerto renal de los pacientes con TRDF durante los primeros seis meses del postrasplante, y mostrar las frecuencias de complicaciones, así como también nefrectomía de injerto y defunción. Métodos serie de casos con taxonomía de tipo retrospectivo, retrolectivo, descriptivo con frecuencias y correlacional con asociación de variables, realizada de enero del 2014 a julio del 2015; el análisis estadístico de las variables se hizo mediante el paquete SPSS, versión 17. Resultados la sobrevida del injerto renal fue del 79.5%. Los niveles de creatinina sérica fueron de 0.6 a 2.5 mg/dL con una media de 1.2. El índice CKD-EPI se estimó de 29 a 120 mL/min/1.73 m2, con una media de 71.4. Encontramos un 57% con filtrado glomerular por arriba del 60 de CKD-EPI. Conclusión el trasplante renal de donador fallecido continúa siendo una opción favorable para los pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica, aun con los criterios extendidos del donador fallecido.in English, Spanish Introducción los grupos relacionados con la atención ambulatoria (GRAA) son una clasificación de diagnósticos clínicos que reciben los pacientes atendidos en consultorios de primer nivel; se trata de un tratamiento integral por un año. Objetivo determinar los costos de atención ambulatoria y las características sociodemográficas de pacientes con esquizofrenia atendidos en Medicina Familiar (MF). Material y métodos estudio transversal que incluyó pacientes adultos con expediente clínico electrónico completo y vigente, los cuales tuvieron diagnóstico de esquizofrenia y fueron atendidos en una unidad de MF de enero a diciembre de 2017. Las variables fueron edad, sexo, datos sociodemográficos, toxicomanías y situación laboral. Para determinar el costo anual de la esquizofrenia con base en los GRAA se aplicó la cédula médico-econó****, que incluye consultas de MF, interconsultas, medicamentos, insumos médicos y tiempos de uso de capacidad instalada durante un año. Resultados 56.2% de los pacientes fueron hombres (n = 172). La edad fue 48.42 ± 14.4 años. De las mujeres, 21.2% eran casadas y 21.2% dedicadas al hogar; 4.2% fumaba y 1.3% consumía alcohol. De los hombres, 30.4% eran solteros, 15% desempleados, 13.1% fumadores y 6.9% consumían alcohol. El costo anual total de la esquizofrenia por FGRAA-SM para los hombres fue de $7 613 236.00. Objetivo reconocer la variabilidad auditiva en usuarios competentes y examinar la relación de las habilidades del procesamiento auditivo con la sensibilidad periférica. Métodos un total de 97 participantes normoacúsicos con antecedentes de escucha comprensiva en una segunda lengua y/o música fueron valorados con el Inventario de Ámsterdam para la Discapacidad y Rendimiento Auditivo versión español (S-AIADH), audiometría e impedanciometría. Se calcularon las correlaciones entre los puntajes del S-AIADH y los umbrales tonales audiométricos y del reflejo estapedial. Resultados los subtotales intratest con mayor dispersión pertenecen a la distinción de sonidos, inteligibilidad en ruido y localización.

El uso de riñones procedentes de donante fallecido de edad avanzada está aumentando al paso de los años. Actualmente, algunos autores consideran que a los seis meses después del trasplante los pacientes que han sido trasplantados de donador fallecido tienen una mayor supervivencia que los que siguen aún en tratamiento sustitutivo con diálisis. Objetivo observar y describir los resultados de la función y sobrevida del injerto renal de los pacientes con TRDF durante los primeros seis meses del postrasplante, y mostrar las frecuencias de complicaciones, así como también nefrectomía de injerto y defunción. Métodos serie de casos con taxonomía de tipo retrospectivo, retrolectivo, descriptivo con frecuencias y correlacional con asociación de variables, realizada de enero del 2014 a julio del 2015; el análisis estadístico de las variables se hizo mediante el paquete SPSS, versión 17. Resultados la sobrevida del injerto renal fue del 79.5%. Los niveles de creatinina sérica fueron de 0.6 a 2.5 mg/dL con una media de 1.2. El índice CKD-EPI se estimó de 29 a 120 mL/min/1.73 m2, con una media de 71.4. Encontramos un 57% con filtrado glomerular por arriba del 60 de CKD-EPI. Conclusión el trasplante renal de donador fallecido continúa siendo una opción favorable para los pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica, aun con los criterios extendidos del donador fallecido.in English, Spanish Introducción los grupos relacionados con la atención ambulatoria (GRAA) son una clasificación de diagnósticos clínicos que reciben los pacientes atendidos en consultorios de primer nivel; se trata de un tratamiento integral por un año. Objetivo determinar los costos de atención ambulatoria y las características sociodemográficas de pacientes con esquizofrenia atendidos en Medicina Familiar (MF). Material y métodos estudio transversal que incluyó pacientes adultos con expediente clínico electrónico completo y vigente, los cuales tuvieron diagnóstico de esquizofrenia y fueron atendidos en una unidad de MF de enero a diciembre de 2017. Las variables fueron edad, sexo, datos sociodemográficos, toxicomanías y situación laboral. Para determinar el costo anual de la esquizofrenia con base en los GRAA se aplicó la cédula médico-económica, que incluye consultas de MF, interconsultas, medicamentos, insumos médicos y tiempos de uso de capacidad instalada durante un año. Resultados 56.2% de los pacientes fueron hombres (n = 172). La edad fue 48.42 ± 14.4 años. De las mujeres, 21.2% eran casadas y 21.2% dedicadas al hogar; 4.2% fumaba y 1.3% consumía alcohol. De los hombres, 30.4% eran solteros, 15% desempleados, 13.1% fumadores y 6.9% consumían alcohol. El costo anual total de la esquizofrenia por FGRAA-SM para los hombres fue de $7 613 236.00. Conclusiones el uso de los FGRAA-SM reveló el costo anual total para la atención de la esquizofrenia en la unidad médica, lo cual brinda información importante para conocer mejor la magnitud del problema de salud en la zona y permitirá mejorar la planeación y la gestión médico-económica.in English, Spanish Introducción la audición resulta de procesos de modulación de la señal acústica que realiza la vía auditiva y la actividad cortical. Objetivo reconocer la variabilidad auditiva en usuarios competentes y examinar la relación de las habilidades del procesamiento auditivo con la sensibilidad periférica. Métodos un total de 97 participantes normoacúsicos con antecedentes de escucha comprensiva en una segunda lengua y/o música fueron valorados con el Inventario de Ámsterdam para la Discapacidad y Rendimiento Auditivo versión español (S-AIADH), audiometría e impedanciometría. Among its splicing components, U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (U1 snRNP) is the smallest subcomplex involved in early spliceosome assembly and 5'-splice site recognition. Its central component, named as U1-70K, has been extensively characterized in animals and yeast. However, very few investigations on U1-70K genes have been conducted in plants. To this end, we performed a comprehensive study to systematically identify 115 U1-70K genes from 67 plant species, ranging from algae to angiosperms. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that expansion of plant U1-70K gene family was likely driven by whole genome duplications. Subsequent comparisons of gene structures, protein domains, promoter regions and conserved splicing patterns indicated that plant U1-70Ks are likely to preserve their conserved molecular function across plant lineage, and play an important functional role in response to environmental stresses. Furthermore, genetic analysis by using T-DNA insertion mutants suggested that Arabidopsis U1-70K may be involved in response to osmotic stress. Loss of CRTAP also resulted in decreased dentin volume and decreased cellular cementum volume, though acellular cementum thickness was increased. Periodontal dysfunction was revealed by decreased alveolar bone volume and mineral density, increased periodontal ligament (PDL) space, ectopic calcification within the PDL, bone-tooth ankylosis, altered immunostaining of extracellular matrix proteins in bone and PDL, increased pSMAD5, and more numerous osteoclasts on alveolar bone surfaces. Ultimately targeted therapeutics will complement our understanding of the AD molecular map and help push AD management into an era of personalized medicine.Purpose Cases of allergy to large surgical implants have been reported. However, few studies have reported allergy to small titanium-containing implants (e.g. Zero-P device).Methods We reported the case of a 51-year old male patient who underwent the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) procedure using a Zero-P device and exhibited allergic symptoms 1 month after the surgery.Results The allergic symptoms included intermittent tingling and itches in the throat induced by speaking. Systemic rashes over the skin surface and congestion of the eyeball, and dysphagia were also present. Anti-allergic treatment did not resolve the symptoms. Patch tests revealed negative reactions to the rested reagents including titanium. Radiographic results showed solid bone fusion and no signs of chronic inflammation or hypotoxic infection in the surrounding tissues. Upon the patient's request, we removed the titanium screws and plate of the Zero-P device. No allergic reactions were observed after the surgery and at a 6-month follow-up.Conclusions Even with a small implant such as the Zero-P device, allergy to titanium may still occur. This case demonstrated the need to screen for the presence of allergy to metals including titanium before the surgery.Objective To evaluate the use of telehealth as part of specialized care for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and the user experiences of patients and healthcare professionals. Methods Fifty patients with ALS were recruited from a single specialist center and used telehealth, consisting of an ALS-app for self-monitoring and messaging, alerts for symptom-worsening, and nurse practitioner follow-up. Patients self-monitored their well-being (daily report), body weight (weekly) and functional status (monthly). The use of the telehealth service was evaluated through adoption rate, dropout rate and adherence to self-monitoring. User-experiences were collected through online surveys among 23 patients and nine healthcare professionals, and interviews with 12 patients. Results The adoption rate was 80%, dropout rate 4% and median follow-up was 11 months. Good adherence was seen in 49% of patients for well-being, 83% for body weight and 87% for functional assessment. For patients who discontinued using telehealth due to the end-of-life phase, median time between last measurement and death was 19 days. The majority of patients experienced using telehealth as easy, helpful, not burdensome, and reported satisfaction with flexible clinic visits and the continuity of care. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/arq531.html Healthcare professionals reported that telehealth was of added value in ALS-care. Major clinic recommendations include expanding the PMH framework to include proficiency in Medicaid billing, promoting true interdisciplinary care teams, improving care accessibility via phone consultation, providing a stable place for medical records to be housed, delivering services throughout stages of the child welfare case, incorporating all family members, and implementing trauma-informed practice. Preliminary evidence suggests that the PMH model of care may be ideal for addressing the complex and often underserved needs of youth in foster care and their families. The present recommendations provide a logistical framework for establishing a clinic that thoughtfully considers the unique needs of this population. Future research is needed to examine best practices for implementation.Objectives The present study examined the associations between immigration-related factors and objective and subjective cognitive status with older Korean Americans' concern about developing Alzheimer's Disease (AD). It was hypothesized that (1) AD concern would be associated with immigration-related factors and (2) self-rated cognitive status would mediate the relationship between cognitive performance (Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores) and concern about AD.Method Using data from the Study of Older Korean Americans (n = 2061, mean age = 73.2; 66.8% female), the direct and indirect effect models were tested.Results Korean American immigrants with a higher level of acculturation had better cognitive performance, more positive self-ratings of cognitive status, and a lower level of concern about AD. Both poor cognitive performance and negative self-ratings of cognitive status were associated with increased concern about AD. Supporting the mediation hypothesis, the indirect effect of cognitive performance on AD concern through self-rated cognitive status was significant (bias corrected 95% confidence interval for the indirect effect = -.012, -.003).Conclusion The mediation model not only helps us better understand the psychological mechanisms that underlie the link between cognitive status and AD concern but also highlights the potential importance of subjective perceptions about cognitive status as an avenue for interventions.Despite declines in overall cigarette smoking in the United States, menthol cigarette smoking prevalence has increased among young adults (18-25 years) and remains constant among older adults (26 years and older). Disparities in menthol cigarette use exist, with higher prevalence among younger adult smokers and among racial/ethnic minority populations. Menthol in cigarettes has been shown to play a role in increasing smoking initiation and making it more difficult to quit smoking. Little research focuses on perceptions of the addictive potential and health consequences of menthol cigarette use. This analysis uses data from a national panel of U.S. adults (n = 1,303) surveyed in 2016. Participants were asked to what extent they agreed with various statements regarding menthol use among demographic and tobacco use subgroups. These data reveal disparities in perceptions of the impact of menthol use, with Black, non-Hispanic, and Hispanic adults and adults with lower income and less education misperceiving the health effects and addiction potential of menthol in cigarettes.

It was hypothesized that (1) AD concern would be associated with immigration-related factors and (2) self-rated cognitive status would mediate the relationship between cognitive performance (Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores) and concern about AD.Method Using data from the Study of Older Korean Americans (n = 2061, mean age = 73.2; 66.8% female), the direct and indirect effect models were tested.Results Korean American immigrants with a higher level of acculturation had better cognitive performance, more positive self-ratings of cognitive status, and a lower level of concern about AD. Both poor cognitive performance and negative self-ratings of cognitive status were associated with increased concern about AD. Supporting the mediation hypothesis, the indirect effect of cognitive performance on AD concern through self-rated cognitive status was significant (bias corrected 95% confidence interval for the indirect effect = -.012, -.003).Conclusion The mediation model not only helps us better understand the psychological mechanisms that underlie the link between cognitive status and AD concern but also highlights the potential importance of subjective perceptions about cognitive status as an avenue for interventions.Despite declines in overall cigarette smoking in the United States, menthol cigarette smoking prevalence has increased among young adults (18-25 years) and remains constant among older adults (26 years and older). Disparities in menthol cigarette use exist, with higher prevalence among younger adult smokers and among racial/ethnic minority populations. Menthol in cigarettes has been shown to play a role in increasing smoking initiation and making it more difficult to quit smoking. Little research focuses on perceptions of the addictive potential and health consequences of menthol cigarette use. This analysis uses data from a national panel of U.S. adults (n = 1,303) surveyed in 2016. Participants were asked to what extent they agreed with various statements regarding menthol use among demographic and tobacco use subgroups.
