The development of effective environmental management programs requires an appropriate assessment of the current state of the environment and contributes to anticipating future changes in the state of the environment. Obtaining such information is one of the main objectives of monitoring the environment, which is subject to anthropogenic stress, including radiological contamination. The distribution of radionuclides and their ability to migrate in ecological chains and concentration in individual parts requires special control in contaminated areas.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the content of radionuclides ( 137Cs and 90Sr) in soils near the settlements of the zone of radioactive contamination of the Volyn region and their spatial differentiation. Priority is given to agricultural lands, soils, crop products, which necessitates the organization of targeted monitoring of the agro industrial complex.
Radioactivity from 137Cs and 90Sr in the soil originating in the Volyn region was studied from n increase or decrease in groundwater and as a consequence - the migration of radionuclides. The most polluted were the soils of administrative districts of Manevychi and Liubeshiv.
Cereal grains and their products are among the basic components of the diet all over the world. Their consumption varies depending on the dietary habits in each country. Apart from ingredients valuable from a health point of view, these products can also be a source of contaminants. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) included these foodstuffs in the group of main contributors to the dietary exposure to nickel by different groups of the population.
The aim of the studies was to determine the nickel content in cereal grains and selected cereal products commercially available in Poland and to assess the exposure of consumers to nickel intake with these foodstuffs.
A total of 56 samples of cereal grain and cereal products from trade were tested. Nickel content was determined after microwave mineralization of the samples by atomic absorption spectrometry with a graphite furnace atomization (GFAAS). The estimated exposure for the different groups of the population was assessed and compared with the Tol intake with grains and grain-based products ranged from 1.1% to 13.4% of TDI and it does not pose a health risk for consumers.
Based on the obtained results, it was found that the nickel content in the tested samples of cereals and their products does not pose a health risk, even though the contamination of individual samples was significant.

This study aimed to characterise how the follow-up of outpatients was done during the first months of COVID-19 pandemic by a multidisciplinary group of physicians involved in an asthma mHealth project. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/msa-2.html A cross-sectional study based on a web survey was conducted. The survey was sent to 123 physicians working at secondary care centres of Portugal and Spain, that participate in the INSPIRERS project. A total of 65 physicians completed the survey (53% response rate). They had a mean of 18 (11) years of clinical practice and 14% were residents. More than half were allergists (58%), 22% pulmonologists and 20% paediatricians. Most were working in Portugal (89%) and in public hospitals (88%). All were conducting consultations 71% presential (median [p 25 ,75] duration 30 [20, 30] min), 91% telephonic (15 [10, 20] min) and 20% video consultations (20[10, 28]min). The median duration of presential consultations was significantly higher than pre-COVID-19 (20 [20, 30]min; p = 0.021). From the physicians conducting videonologists and 20% paediatricians. Most were working in Portugal (89%) and in public hospitals (88%). All were conducting consultations 71% presential (median [p 25 ,75] duration 30 [20, 30] min), 91% telephonic (15 [10, 20] min) and 20% video consultations (20[10, 28]min). The median duration of presential consultations was significantly higher than pre-COVID-19 (20 [20, 30]min; p = 0.021). From the physicians conducting video consultations, 92% were allergists and only 54% considered that their institution provided adequate conditions. The physicians of the INSPIRERS group used telephonic consultations as the main alternative to presential ones and 1/5 used video consultations. These results suggest the need to rethink clinical follow-up services for outpatients in the near future increasing the use of telemedicine, especially video consultations.
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and other Health Information Technologies (HITs) pose significant challenges for clinicians, administrators and managers in the field of primary care. While there is an abundance of literature on the challenges of HIT systems in primary care, there are also practices where HITs are well-integrated and useful for care delivery. This study aims to (1) understand how exemplary primary care practices conceptualized data and HIT system use in their care delivery and (2) describe components that support and promote data and HIT system use in care delivery.
This paper is a sub-analysis of a larger qualitative data set on exemplary primary care in which data was collected using in-depth interviews, observations, field notes and primary source documents from week-long site visits at each organization. Using a combination of qualitative analysis methods including elements of thematic analysis, discourse analysis, and qualitative comparison analysis, we examined HIT-related data across six exemplary primary care organizations.

Dialogic teaching can be useful for scaffolding young musicians' learning of expressivity as open questions can stimulate thinking about the interpretation and may serve to connect musical ideas to the embodied experience of the learner. A "toolkit" for teaching and learning of expressiveness will be presented for practical application in music lessons. In addition, a theoretical model will be proposed to further our understanding of teaching and learning of expressive music performance as a multifaceted and interactive process that is embedded in the context of tutors' and learners' experiences and environment. Finally, implications of this framework and suggestions for future research will be discussed.Schools may be one important context where adolescents learn and shape the behaviors necessary for promoting global inclusivity in adulthood. Given the importance of bystanders in halting bullying and peer aggression, the focus of this study is on both moral judgments regarding one type of bullying, social exclusion, and factors that are associated with bystander intervention. The study includes 896 adolescents, who were 6th (N = 450, M age = 11.73), and 9th (N = 446, M age = 14.82) graders, approximately evenly divided by gender. Participants were primarily European-American (63.3%). Results revealed that girls and participants who perceived better relationships between students and teachers were more likely to judge exclusion to be wrong. Further, ethnic minority participants, those who were more anxious about being rejected by their teachers and reported more teacher discrimination were less likely to judge exclusion as wrong. Participants who reported more positive student-teacher relationships, perceptions of a more positive school social environment and more prior experiences of teacher discrimination were more likely to report that they would seek help for the victim. On the other hand, participants who reported being more angry about teacher rejection, experiencing either peer or teacher discrimination, and perceiving they are excluded from opportunities at school were less likely to intervene to come to the aid of a peer who is being excluded. The results document the complex interplay of school and teacher factors in shaping adolescents' bystander responses to social exclusion. Our findings suggest that positive school climate can promote intentions to intervene. However, findings indicate that adolescents who are marginalized in their school environments, and who report experiences of rejection, exclusion or discrimination are not willing or likely to intervene to prevent others from experiencing exclusion.University study can be a life period of heightened psychological distress for many students. The development of new preventive and intervention programs to support well-being in university students is a fundamental challenge for mental health professionals. We designed an 8-week online mindfulness-based program (eMBP) combining a face-to-face approach, text, audio, video components, and support psychotherapy principles with a unique intensive reminder system using the Facebook Messenger and Slack applications in two separate runs (N = 692). We assessed the program's effect on mindful experiencing, perceived stress, emotion regulation strategies, self-compassion, negative affect, and quality of life. The results of the presented pilot study confirmed that eMBP is a feasible and effective tool in university students' mental health support. The students who completed the eMBP reported a reduction of perceived stress with a large effect size ( p η2 = 0.42) as well as a decrease of negative affect experience frequency and intensity ( p η2 = 0.31), an increase of being mindful in their life (Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire subscales p η2 = 0.21, 0.27, 0.25, 0.28, 0.28), and a higher rate of self-compassion ( p η2 = 0.28) with a medium effect size. A small effect size was found in the frequency of using a cognitive reappraisal strategy ( p η2 = 0.073). Analysis of the national sample showed that organizational trust and alignment with the company's purpose are associated with higher employee incomes, longer job tenure, greater job satisfaction, less chronic stress, improved satisfaction with life, and higher productivity. Employees working the highest quartile of organizational trust had average incomes 10.3% higher those working in the middle quartile of trust (p = 0.000) indicating that trust increases productivity. In order to demonstrate the causal effect of trust on business performance, we created an intervention to increase organizational trust in a division facing high job turnover at a large online retailer. The intervention increased organizational trust by 6% and this improved job retention by 1%. These studies show that management practices that increase organizational trust have salubrious effects on business performance.Objective Persuasive messages regarding fruit and vegetable consumption often meet defensive reactions from recipients, which may lower message effectiveness. Individual differences in emotion regulation and gender are expected to predict these reactions. In the working memory account of persuasion, inducing voluntary eye movements during the processing of the auditory persuasive information might prevent defensiveness and thereby increase message effectiveness. Methods Participants in two independently recruited samples from the general population (n = 118 and n = 99) listened to a negatively framed auditory persuasive message advocating fruit and vegetable consumption. Half of them were asked to keep following a regularly moving stimulus on their screen with their eyes. At pretest, the individual differences of cognitive self-affirmation inclination (CSAI) and gender were assessed to predict defensive reactions. Results In Study 1, induced eye movements significantly increased self-reported consumption after 2 weeks when CSAI was low, but only in males, as indicated by a significant three-way interaction (p less then 0.

The biochemical properties of Fe-AAdh were characterized, and bioinformatics were analyzed. Fe-AAdh exhibited the highest activities for the reductions of ac-CoA and acetaldehyde at 80-85 °C, pH 7.54, and had a 1-h half-life at about 92 °C. To augment the antivirulent potential further, the mixer of copper and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuNPs) was synthesized, and characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM-EDAX, TEM, and Zeta analysis. Here, we attempted to enhance the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity with the assistance of encapsulated preparation of lipopeptide and CuNPs in multilamellar liposomes. The proposed mechanism of action of lipopeptide and CuNPs liposomal preparation negatively influences the cell metabolism, secreted virulence such as staphyloxanthin, pyocyanin, and extracellular polysaccharides. The significant decline in the growth of MRSA and P. aeruginosa in both planktonic form and biofilm by lipopeptide and CuNPs treatment were visualized using scanning electron microscopy and High content screening imaging system. In vivo studies revealed that treatment with lipopeptide and CuNPs in multilamellar liposomes extended the lifespan of infected Caenorhabditis elegans by about 75%. Aim of this study was to investigate the effects of sEV from adipose derived stromal cells (ADSC) on both chondrocytes and synoviocytes, in order to gain insights into the mechanisms modulating the inflammatory/catabolic OA environment. sEV, obtained by a combined precipitation and size exclusion chromatography method, were quantified and characterized, and administered to chondrocytes and synoviocytes stimulated with IL-1β. Cellular uptake of sEV was evaluated from 1 to 12 h. Gene expression and protein release of cytokines/chemokines, catabolic and inflammatory molecules were analyzed at 4 and 15 h, when p65 nuclear translocation was investigated to study NF-κB pathway. This study underlined the potential of ADSC derived sEV to affect gene expression and protein release of both chondrocytes and synoviocytes, counteracting IL-1β induced inflammatory effects, and provided insights into their mechanisms of action. sEV uptake was faster in synoviocytes, where it also elicited stronger effects, especially in terms of cytokine and chemokine modulation. The conventional bolus types used clinically in practice have some disadvantages. The use of three-dimensional (3D) printing has the potential to create more effective boluses. CT data is used for dosimetric calculations for these treatments and often to manufacture the customized 3D-printed bolus.
The aim of this review is to evaluate the published studies that have compared 3D-printed bolus against conventional bolus types.
A systematic search of several databases and a further appraisal for relevance and eligibility resulted in the 14 articles used in this review. The 14 articles were analyzed based on their comparison of 3D-printed bolus and at least one conventional bolus type.
The findings of this review indicated that 3D-printed bolus has a number of advantages. Compared to conventional bolus types, 3D-printed bolus was found to have equivalent or improved dosimetric measures, positional accuracy, fit and uniformity. 3D-printed bolus was also found to benefit workflow efficiency through both time and cost effectiveness. However, factors such as patient comfort and staff perspectives need to be further explored to support the use of 3D-printed bolus in routine practice.

Products of Criegee intermediate (CI) chemistry were recently detected in radical chain autoxidation reactions involving β-hydroxyperoxy radicals. Here, we demonstrate by means of accurate G4 computations that direct scission of the latter to CIs and radical byproducts is thermodynamically highly unfavorable. Instead, the reaction becomes possible through a hydrogen abstraction reaction that could proceed by reversible formation of a dimeric tetroxide and a subsequent [1,6] hydrogen shift of the hydroxy hydrogen.The postcoordinated interligand-coupling strategy provides a useful and complementary protocol for synthesizing polydentate ligands. Herein, diastereoselective photoreactions of Λ-[Ir(pq)2(d-AA)] (Λ-d) and Λ-[Ir(pq)2(l-AA)] (Λ-l, where pq is 2-phenylquinoline and AA is an amino acid) are reported in the presence of O2 under mild conditions. Diastereomer Λ-d is dehydrogenatively oxidized into an imino acid complex, while diastereomer Λ-l mainly occurs via interligand C-N cross-dehydrogenative coupling between quinoline at the C8 position and AA ligands at room temperature, affording Λ-[Ir(pq)(l-pq-AA)]. Furthermore, the photoreaction of diastereomer Λ-l is temperature-dependent. Mechanistic experiments reveal the ligand-radical intermediates may be involved in the reaction. Density functional theory calculations were used to eluciate the origin of diastereoselectivity and temperature dependence. The NMR signal of 18O-labeled P was shifted upfield relative to the unlabeled P nuclei in natural metabolites. However, the effect of physiological fluids on the structure of CAGE remains unclear. In the present study, molecular structures of CAGE with different ratios of water were investigated using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The SAXS pattern of CAGE showed an IL-specific broad peak derived from nanoscale aggregation until 17 vol % water. Meanwhile, narrow peaks were observed in samples with 25-50 vol % water, showing a transition to the lamellar phase. With more than 67 vol % water, CAGE was found to exist as micelles in water. The 1H NMR spectra indicated that protons of H2O, OH in choline (CH), and COOH in geranic acid (GA) were observed as only one peak up to 17 vol % water. This peak shifted to a high magnetic field, and the integral values increased with the water content, speculating that water is localized close to the COOH and OH groups to allow proton exchange. The 13C NMR spectra showed that peaks related to the carboxyl group shifted with adding water. Moreover, only GA peaks were observed in the lamellar phase through 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR, suggesting that the main rigid component of the lamellar phase was GA. Taken together, this study suggested that CAGE still maintained its IL structure up to 17 vol % water, then transitioned to the lamellar phase with 25-50 vol % water, and finally changed to the micellar phase with more than 67 vol % water. This information would be useful in the formulation and development of DDS using CAGE.

The NMR signal of 18O-labeled P was shifted upfield relative to the unlabeled P nuclei in natural metabolites. However, the effect of physiological fluids on the structure of CAGE remains unclear. In the present study, molecular structures of CAGE with different ratios of water were investigated using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The SAXS pattern of CAGE showed an IL-specific broad peak derived from nanoscale aggregation until 17 vol % water. Meanwhile, narrow peaks were observed in samples with 25-50 vol % water, showing a transition to the lamellar phase. With more than 67 vol % water, CAGE was found to exist as micelles in water. The 1H NMR spectra indicated that protons of H2O, OH in choline (CH), and COOH in geranic acid (GA) were observed as only one peak up to 17 vol % water. This peak shifted to a high magnetic field, and the integral values increased with the water content, speculating that water is localized close to the COOH and OH groups to allow proton exchange. The 13C NMR spectra showed that peaks related to the carboxyl group shifted with adding water. Moreover, only GA peaks were observed in the lamellar phase through 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR, suggesting that the main rigid component of the lamellar phase was GA. Taken together, this study suggested that CAGE still maintained its IL structure up to 17 vol % water, then transitioned to the lamellar phase with 25-50 vol % water, and finally changed to the micellar phase with more than 67 vol % water. Antimicrobial resistance genes and antimicrobial susceptibility of fourmcr-1-carrying K. pneumoniae isolates were characterised. Comparison of mcr-1-carrying plasmids with closely related plasmids and analysis of the mcr-1 gene cassette were performed.

An interdisciplinary panel of experts with clinical and research expertise was selected to participate in a virtual workshop to discuss AACD. A modified nominal group technique was used to establish consensus among the group. An extended group of international experts critically reviewed an early draft of the manuscript, and their feedback was then incorporated into the model. Experts identifem domains (to be potentially targeted by future specific interventions). Although the AACD construct is not yet ready for routine use in clinical practice, its operationalization may support the early identification of age-related conditions (when this might still be amenable to reversion) and also encourage preventative interventions. Right ventricular (RV) septum is an alternate site for the placement of RV lead tip instead of RV apex. Recent studies have demonstrated that less than half of the RV leads targeted for septal implantation are placed on the RV septum using a conventional stylet system; new guiding catheter systems have become available for RV lead placement. This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of the delivery catheter system in lead placement on the RV septum when compared with the stylet system. We retrospectively evaluated 198 patients who underwent fluoroscopically guided pacemaker implantation with RV leads targeted to be placed in the RV septum and in whom computed tomography was incidentally and subsequently performed. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential effects and putative mechanism of L. salivarius LI01 in immune modulation and metabolic regulation through the monocolonization of germ-free (GF) Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with L. salivarius LI01. The GF rats were separated into two groups and administered a gavage of L. salivarius LI01 or an equal amount of phosphate-buffered saline. The levels of serum biomarkers, such as interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-5, and IL-10, were restored by L. salivarius LI01, which indicated the activation of Th0 cell differentiation toward immune homeostasis. L. salivarius LI01 also stimulated the immune response and metabolic process by altering transcriptional expression in the ileum and liver. A Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed significant enrichment of the 5'-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway, which indicated that L. salivarius LI01 exerts an effect on energy accumulation. The LI01 group showed alterations in fecal carbohydrates accompanied by an increased body weight gain. In addition, L. salivarius LI01 produced indole-3-lactic acid (ILA) and enhanced arginine metabolism by rebalancing the interconversion between arginine and proline. These findings provide evidence showing that L. salivarius LI01 can directly impact the host by modulating immunity and metabolism. The aim of this study was to describe the radiological features of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease (CTEPD), not yet systematically described in the literature. Furthermore, we compared vascular scores between CTEPD and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) patients, trying to explain why pulmonary hypertension does not develop at rest in CTEPD patients.
Eighty-five patients (40 CTEPD, 45 CTEPH) referred to our centre for pulmonary endarterectomy underwent dual-energy computed tomography pulmonary angiography (DE-CTPA) with iodine perfusion maps; other 6 CTEPD patients underwent single-source CTPA. CT scans were reviewed independently by an experienced cardiothoracic radiologist and a radiology resident to evaluate scores of vascular obstruction, hypoperfusion and mosaic attenuation, signs of pulmonary hypertension and other CT features typical of CTEPH.
Vascular obstruction burden was similar in the two groups (p = 0.073), but CTEPD patients have a smaller extension of perfusionThe absence of peripheral microvascular disease might be the reason for the absence of pulmonary hypertension in CTEPD.
To compare spinal bone measures derived from automatic and manual assessment in routine CT with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in their association with prevalent osteoporotic vertebral fractures using our fully automated framework ( https//anduin.bonescreen.de ) to assess various bone measures in clinical CT.
We included 192 patients (141 women, 51 men; age 70.2 ± 9.7 years) who had lumbar DXA and CT available (within 1 year). Automatic assessment of spinal bone measures in CT included segmentation of vertebrae using a convolutional neural network (CNN), reduction to the vertebral body, and extraction of bone mineral content (BMC), trabecular and integral volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD), and CT-based areal BMD (aBMD) using asynchronous calibration. Moreover, trabecular bone was manually sampled (manual vBMD).
A total of 148 patients (77%) had vertebral fractures and significantly lower values in all bone measures compared to patients without fractures (p ≤ 0.001). Except for BMC, all CT-t for bone mineral content, all CT-based bone measures performed significantly better than DXA-based measures. • We introduce diagnostic thresholds of integral vBMD for osteoporosis ( less then 160 mg/cm3) and low bone mass (160 ≤ BMD less then 190 mg/cm3) with almost equal sensitivity and specificity compared to conventional thresholds of quantitative CT as proposed by the American College of Radiology (osteoporosis less then 80 mg/cm3).Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a vibrational method successfully applied in analytical chemistry, molecular biology and medical diagnostics. In this article, we demonstrate the combination of the negative dielectrophoretic (nDEP) phenomenon and a flexible surface-enhanced Raman platform for quick isolation (3 min), concentration and label-free identification of bacteria. The platform ensures a strong enhancement factor, high stability and reproducibility for the SERS response of analyzed samples. By introducing radial dielectrophoretic forces directed at the SERS platform, we can efficiently execute bacterial cell separation, concentration and deposition onto the SERS-active surface, which simultaneously works as a counter electrode and thus enables such hybrid DEP-SERS device vibration-based detection. Additionally, we show the ability of our DEP-SERS system to perform rapid, cultivation-free, direct detection of bacteria in urine and apple juice samples. The device provides new opportunities for the detection of pathogens.

Virtual reality, via integration of immersive visual and auditory modalities, offers an innovative approach to pain management. The purpose of this review is to investigate the clinical application of virutal realityas an adjunct analgesic to standard of care, particularly in pediatric and burn patients.
Although relatively new, virtual reality has been successfully implemented in a wide range of clinical scenarios for educational, diagnostic, and therapeutic purposes. Most recent literature supports the use of this adjunct analgesic in reducing pain intensity for pediatric and burn patients undergoing acute, painful procedures. This summative review demonstrates the efficacy of virtual reality in altering pain perception by decreasing pain and increasing functionality among pediatric and burn patients. However, large, multi-center randomized controlled trials are still warranted to generalize these findings to more diverse patient demographics and medical scenarios.

The aim of this study was (1) to investigate the application of texture analysis of choline PET/CT images in prostate cancer (PCa) patients and (2) to propose a machine-learning radiomics model able to select PET features predictive of disease progression in PCa patients with a same high-risk class at restaging.
Ninety-four high-risk PCa patients who underwent restaging Cho-PET/CT were analyzed. Follow-up data were recorded for a minimum of 13 months after the PET/CT scan.
