Previous reports have documented preferential targeting of pigmented hair follicles with sparing of gray, nonpigmented hair follicles in alopecia lesions. Thus, immune targeting of melanogenesis-associated proteins in melanocytes and keratinocytes represents a potential mechanism for the inflammation that targets anagen hairs in alopecia areata.

The lack of appearance-based methods and general challenges to quantify appearance complicate the investigation of shape appearance. Here, we introduce Geometrically Restricted Image Descriptors (GRIDs), a method to investigate the appearance of shapes. Stimuli in the GRID paradigm are shapes consisting of distinct line elements placed on a grid by connecting grid nodes. Each line is treated as a discrete target. Observers are asked to capture target appearance by placing lines on a freely viewed response grid. We used GRIDs to investigate the appearance of letters and letter-like shapes. Targets were presented at 10° eccentricity in the right visual field. Gaze-contingent stimulus presentation was used to prevent eye movements to the target. The data were analyzed by quantifying the differences between targets and response in regard to overall accuracy, element discriminability, and several distinct error types. Our results show how shape appearance can be captured by GRIDs, and how a fine-grained analysis of stimulus parts provides quantifications of appearance typically not available in standard measures of performance. We propose that GRIDs are an effective tool to investigate the appearance of shapes.

Moreover, 90.4% of the study participants reported that they knew someone who did cautery. Respondents with poor knowledge (AOR=6.45, 95% CI 4.69-8.87) and attitude (AOR=8.68, 95% CI 6.31-11.95) were more likely to practice cauterization compared to those with good knowledge and attitude.

    Gulf War Illness (GWI) is a chronic multisymptom illness with debated etiology and pathophysiology. This systematic review catalogues studies of validated biological tests for diagnosing GWI and of associations between biological measures and GWI for their promise as biomarkers.

    We searched multiple sources through February 2020 for studies of diagnostic tests of GWI and of associations between biological measures and GWI. We abstracted data on study design, demographics, and outcomes. We assessed the risk of bias of included studies.

    We did not identify any studies validating tests of biomarkers that distinguish cases of GWI from non-cases. We included the best-fitting studies, 32 completed and 24 ongoing or unpublished studies, of associations between GWI and biological measures. The less well-fitting studies (n=77) were included in a Supplementary Table. How glutamine regulates the differentiation of VSMCs and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown.

    Here, we explored the effects of various doses of glutamine (0mM, 1mM, 2mM, and 4mM) on the proliferation, migration, and phenotypic switch of human VSMCs in vitro. Glutamine dose-dependently enhanced VSMC proliferation, and markedly increased VSMC migration.

    Notably, glutamine promoted the phenotypic switch of VSMCs towards a synthetic phenotype, as evidenced by significantly decreased expression of contractile markers myosin heavy chain 11 (MYH11) and calponin while increased expression of synthetic markers collagen I and vimentin. These coefficients are utilized as features symbolizing the chest X-ray input image. After applying zero-padding to unify their lengths, the feature vectors are introduced to a SVM which classifies them as either normal or COVID-19 cases.

    The proposed system yields promising results in terms of classification accuracy, which justifies further work in this direction.

    Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has raised concerns about the susceptibility amongst different groups of the population. Pregnant women are one such group. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of COVID-19 on pregnancy and maternal/neonatal outcomes.

    This case series was conducted on 16 pregnant women with COVID-19 from March 21 to May 11, 2020. Clinical characteristics, pregnancy complications, medication used, maternal/neonatal outcomes, and fatality rate were investigated through this study. The mean age of the patients was 30.06 yrs. Patients from all three trimesters were included (1 in first, 5 in second, and 10 in the third trimesters). The most common clinical symptoms were shortness of breath (n = 10), dry cough (n = 10), myalgia (n = 8), and chills (n = 7). Also, three cases had papulosquamous skin lesions with fissuring. The most common laboratory results were leukocytosis (n = 8), increased liver enzymes (n = 6), elevated CRP (n = 5), and thrombocytopenia (n = 4). They should be planned individually.

Serum testosterone and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured. Testes samples were prepared for tissue MDA levels, histomorphometry, and immunohistochemistry of p53. Sperm analysis was performed on cauda epididymis.

However, the hydrological variation since the LIA and its driving mechanisms in Northeast Asia remain unclear, which has severely restricted our understanding on the past, present and future hydroclimate changes in these regions. Here we reconstruct the hydrological dynamics over the past 700 years using samples from the Hani peatland a subalpine peatland of Changbai Mountains to reveal these issues. The analytical results from plant macrofossil and grain-size of the HN-1 core and the integrated moisture/precipitation records across the entire Northeast Asia indicate that the hydrological environments in Northeast Asia were wetter conditions during the period of 1300-1700 AD, dry conditions during the period of 1700-1850 AD, and wet conditions during the period of 1850-2018 AD, respectively. To achieve practical application, electrode plate with cost effective fabrication, high catalytic efficiency and long service life is urgently required. This work prepared a CuO-SnO2-SbOX electrode on Ti substrate, which is achieved by ultrasonic assisted deposition of Cu layer, followed by electroless deposition of SnSb layer and finalized by calcination at 500 °C. The obtained electrode (Ti/CuO-SnO2-SbOX) exhibited high catalytic degradation activity and a high oxygen evolution potential (OEP) of 2.13 V, which is 0.4 V greater than that of the widely recognized Ti/SnO2-SbOX electrode. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) models of active oxygen intermediate adsorption was optimized by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results revealed that (1) the ΔG of the OER rate-determining step was raised to 2.30 eV after Cu doping on 101 plane; (2) binding energies of the optimized surface with reactive oxygen species (ROS) were substantially decreased. The consumption efficiency of dissolved organic carbon (RDOC) and removal efficiency of BaP (RBaP) at S1cm were slightly higher than those at S11cm after 100 days (RDOC 47.82 ± 5.77% at S1cm and 44.98 ± 10.76% at S11cm; RBaP 72.52 ± 1.88% at S1cm and 68.50 ± 4.34% at S11cm). More fulvic acid-like components and more low-molecular-weight metabolites (indicating a higher biodegradation degree) of BaP were generated at S1cm than at S11cm. The microbial community structures were similar at the two sites. Electroactive bacteria (EAB) and some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon degraders were both enriched at the bioanode. Energy metabolism at the bioanode could be upregulated to generate more adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The municipal wastewater is routinely applied for soil irrigation in peri-urban agriculture of the country. Since the wastewater composition/contamination and its allied consequences greatly vary in different areas, therefore, it is imperative to check the possible health risks in areas where untreated wastewater is being applied for food crop production. This study analyzed potential health hazards of As-buildup in soil and food plants irrigated with municipal wastewater growing under natural conditions. Sixteen wastewater irrigation locations were selected in District Vehari. From these sites, a total of 16 wastewater samples, 108 soil samples and 65 plant samples were collected for As analysis. Total As contents in wastewater (5.3-63.6 μg/L), soil (1.4-19.6 mg/kg) and plants (0-6.5 mg/kg) greatly varied with sampling location, soil depths and plant type.

The obtained electrode (Ti/CuO-SnO2-SbOX) exhibited high catalytic degradation activity and a high oxygen evolution potential (OEP) of 2.13 V, which is 0.4 V greater than that of the widely recognized Ti/SnO2-SbOX electrode. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) models of active oxygen intermediate adsorption was optimized by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results revealed that (1) the ΔG of the OER rate-determining step was raised to 2.30 eV after Cu doping on 101 plane; (2) binding energies of the optimized surface with reactive oxygen species (ROS) were substantially decreased. In this study, the level and composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM), biodegradation metabolites of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), and microbial communities at two sites with different distances (S1cm and S11cm) to the bioanode were investigated in an SMFC. The consumption efficiency of dissolved organic carbon (RDOC) and removal efficiency of BaP (RBaP) at S1cm were slightly higher than those at S11cm after 100 days (RDOC 47.82 ± 5.77% at S1cm and 44.98 ± 10.76% at S11cm; RBaP 72.52 ± 1.88% at S1cm and 68.50 ± 4.34% at S11cm). More fulvic acid-like components and more low-molecular-weight metabolites (indicating a higher biodegradation degree) of BaP were generated at S1cm than at S11cm. The microbial community structures were similar at the two sites. Electroactive bacteria (EAB) and some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon degraders were both enriched at the bioanode. Energy metabolism at the bioanode could be upregulated to generate more adenosine triphosphate (ATP). In conclusion, the bioanode could modulate the metabolic pathways in the adjacent soil by strengthening the contact between the EAB and BaP degraders, and providing more ATP to the BaP degraders.Despite considerable research of arsenic (As) level in ground/drinking water of Pakistan, scarce data is available regarding irrigation water contamination by As and associated health risks. The municipal wastewater is routinely applied for soil irrigation in peri-urban agriculture of the country. Since the wastewater composition/contamination and its allied consequences greatly vary in different areas, therefore, it is imperative to check the possible health risks in areas where untreated wastewater is being applied for food crop production. This study analyzed potential health hazards of As-buildup in soil and food plants irrigated with municipal wastewater growing under natural conditions. Sixteen wastewater irrigation locations were selected in District Vehari. From these sites, a total of 16 wastewater samples, 108 soil samples and 65 plant samples were collected for As analysis. Total As contents in wastewater (5.3-63.6 μg/L), soil (1.4-19.6 mg/kg) and plants (0-6.5 mg/kg) greatly varied with sampling location, soil depths and plant type.

In our tested conditions, A. vaginae and P. bivia were able to incorporate into pre-established G. vaginalis biofilms but did not induce an increase in total biofilm biomass, when compared with 48-h G. vaginalis biofilms.     -agonist (LAMA/LABA, also known as dual bronchodilator) and inhaled corticosteroid/LABA (ICS/LABA) are the cornerstone of maintenance treatment for stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. We aimed to comprehensively compare the efficacy and safety of the two maintenance treatment in COPD patients.

    We searched the database Embase, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Clinical Trials.gov systematically (from inception until September 2020). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing dual bronchodilator with ICS/LABA in the treatment of COPD were included. Efficacy and safety endpoints were pooled as mean differences (MDs) and risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). This meta-analysis was registered with PROSPERO prospectively # CRD42020203314).

    Fourteen RCTs including 21,496 patients were included. Dual bronchodilator showed a greater improvement in both trough FEV
    (MD=0.06 L, 95% CI 0.04-0.07, P<0.001) and FVC (FVC MD=0.12 L, 95% CI 0.07-0.16, P<0.001), and a lower risk of pneumonia (RR=0.62, 95% CI 0.53-0.72, P<0.001) in patients with COPD. There were no significant differences neither in the improvement of exacerbations, symptoms, and quality of life, nor in the incidence of cardiovascular events, serious adverse events, all-cause mortality, and withdrawals due to adverse events of treatment between these two maintenance treatments.

No significant difference was found between the MP and NC. This elevated risk of hyposmia indicated that T2DM increased COVID-19 susceptibility in the nasal cavity with unknown causations. Therefore, we used the T2DM animal model (db/db ****) to evaluate how T2DM increased COVID-19 associated susceptibilities in the nasal mucosa and lymphoid tissues.     Internet-based interventions show clinical effectiveness for treating anxiety disorders and depression and could make mental healthcare more affordable.

    We searched databases including PubMed; EMBASE; Cochrane Central; PsychINFO; CINAHL; EconLit; and Web of Science from January 1, 2000 to August 21, 2020. Inclusion criteria were 1) pertained to the treatment or prevention of anxiety disorders or depression; 2) evaluated the use of an internet-delivered psychological intervention; 3) recruited participants; and 4) reported costs or cost-effectiveness.

    Of the 6,069 articles identified, 33 targeted anxiety (N=13) and depression (n=20) and met final inclusion criteria. All studies were from high-income countries. The control conditions and cost components included were heterogeneous. Only eight studies reported costs of developing the intervention. Of 27 studies that made a conclusion about cost-effectiveness, 81% of interventions were cost-effective. The quality of studies included was high based on a qualo better compare intervention costs. More research is needed to describe development costs, cost-effectiveness in low-resource settings, and cost-effectiveness of newer technologies.
    While previous studies have suggested that maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms are associated with increased risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in their offspring in early and late childhood, studies exploring the risk in late adolescence are however lacking. This study aims to examine the association between maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms and the risk of ADHD symptoms in late adolescence (at age 17).

    We used data from the Raine Study. Maternal depressive and anxiety symptoms were measured when the child was 10 years of age using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). Offspring ADHD symptoms at age 17 were assessed using the DSM-oriented scales of the child behavior checklist (CBCL). Log-binomial regression was used to explore the associations.

    We found an increased risk of ADHD symptoms in offspring of mothers with comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms when compared with offspring of mothers with no symptoms [RR 5.60 (95%CI 3.02-10.37)]. There was a nearly three-fold increase in the risk of ADHD symptoms in offspring of mothers with increased anxiety symptoms compared with offspring of mothers who were in the normal range [RR 2.84 (95%CI 1.18-6.83)]. No association was observed with maternal depressive symptoms.

We searched databases including PubMed; EMBASE; Cochrane Central; PsychINFO; CINAHL; EconLit; and Web of Science from January 1, 2000 to August 21, 2020. Inclusion criteria were 1) pertained to the treatment or prevention of anxiety disorders or depression; 2) evaluated the use of an internet-delivered psychological intervention; 3) recruited participants; and 4) reported costs or cost-effectiveness. Of the 6,069 articles identified, 33 targeted anxiety (N=13) and depression (n=20) and met final inclusion criteria. All studies were from high-income countries. The control conditions and cost components included were heterogeneous. Only eight studies reported costs of developing the intervention. Of 27 studies that made a conclusion about cost-effectiveness, 81% of interventions were cost-effective. The quality of studies included was high based on a qualo better compare intervention costs. More research is needed to describe development costs, cost-effectiveness in low-resource settings, and cost-effectiveness of newer technologies. While previous studies have suggested that maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms are associated with increased risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in their offspring in early and late childhood, studies exploring the risk in late adolescence are however lacking. This study aims to examine the association between maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms and the risk of ADHD symptoms in late adolescence (at age 17). We used data from the Raine Study. Maternal depressive and anxiety symptoms were measured when the child was 10 years of age using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). Offspring ADHD symptoms at age 17 were assessed using the DSM-oriented scales of the child behavior checklist (CBCL). Log-binomial regression was used to explore the associations. We found an increased risk of ADHD symptoms in offspring of mothers with comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms when compared with offspring of mothers with no symptoms [RR 5.60 (95%CI 3.02-10.37)]. There was a nearly three-fold increase in the risk of ADHD symptoms in offspring of mothers with increased anxiety symptoms compared with offspring of mothers who were in the normal range [RR 2.84 (95%CI 1.18-6.83)]. No association was observed with maternal depressive symptoms. This study found an increased risk of ADHD symptoms in the offspring of mothers with anxiety as well as comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms but not among the offspring of mothers with depressive symptoms.   • Ischemic heart disease is among the primary causes of cardiovascular-related deaths worldwide. Conventional treatments including surgical interventions and medical therapies aid in preventing further damage to heart muscle but are unable to provide a permanent solution. In recent years, stem cell therapy has emerged as an attractive alternative to restore damaged myocardium after myocardial injury. Allogeneic (donor-derived) mesenchymal stem cells (****) have shown great promise in preclinical and clinical studies, making them the most widely accepted candidates for cardiac cell therapy. **** promote cardiac repair by modulating host immune system and secreting various soluble factors, of which prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is an important one. PGE2 plays a significant role in regulating cardiac remodeling following myocardial injury. In this review, we provide an overview of allogeneic **** as candidates for myocardial regeneration with a focus on the role of the PGE2/cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) pathway in mediating these effects.Objectives We aim at reporting the functional and oncological outcomes in men with localized prostate cancer who underwent individualized partial gland cryoablation of the prostate by using validated quality-of-life instruments. Methods We retrospectively reviewed our cryosurgery database between July 2003 and September 2019 for men who were treated with individualized partial gland cryoablation of the prostate at our tertiary care center. Baseline and periodic urinary and sexual function surveys were administered throughout the post-treatment period. Results A total of 82 men were included in the study. Median follow-up was 28 months (interquartile range 10.5-59.3 months). A total of 71 men underwent primary individualized partial gland cryoablation, whereas 11 men underwent salvage partial gland ablation. Failure-free survival at 1 to 5 years was 98%, 89%, 84%, 75%, and 75% in the primary therapy group, and 100%, 80%, and 40% in the salvage group at 1 to 3 years, respectively. In the primary therapy group, all 71 patients remained free of pads at 3 months and throughout the follow-up period. Men who had undergone primary focal cryoablation had a higher post-treatment International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score, followed by men treated with primary hemi-cryoablation and primary subtotal cryoablation. The American Urological Association (AUA) symptom scores decreased regardless of the type of partial gland ablation performed, with subtotal ablation having the lowest score compared with hemiablation and focal cryoablation. No patient developed a fistula in the primary group, and 1 (9%) patient developed a fistula in the salvage group. Therefore, this study uses computational tools to identify molecular interactions between Pidilizumab and its reported targets PD-1 and DLL1. A docking methodology was validated and applied to determine the binding modes between modeled Pidilizumab scFvs and the two antigens. We used Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to verify the complexes' stability and submitted the resulting trajectory files to MM/PBSA and Principal Component Analysis. A set of different prediction tools determined scFv interface hot-spots. Whereas docking and MD simulations revealed that the antibody fragments do not interact straightforwardly with PD-1, ten scFv hot-spots, including Met93 and Leu112, mediated the interaction with the DLL1 C2 domain. The interaction triggered a conformational selection-like effect on DLL1, allowing new hydrogen bonds on the β3-β4 interface loop.
