Reverse genetics was used to introduce specific mutations into the furin cleavage motif within the ZIKV pre-membrane protein (prM). Mutant clones were selected, which replicated well in C6/36 insect cells but exhibited reduced replication in non-human primate (Vero) cells. Further characterization of the furin cleavage site mutants indicated they replicated poorly in both human (HeLa, U251), and baby hamster kidney (BHK-21) cells. One clone with the induced mutation in the prM protein and at positions 291and 452 within the NS3 protein was totally and stably replication-defective in vertebrate cells (VSRD-ZIKV). Preliminary studies in ZIKV sensitive, immunodeficient **** demonstrated that VSRD-ZIKV-infected **** survived and were virus-negative. Our study indicates that a reverse genetic approach targeting the furin cleavage site in prM can be used to select an insect-specific ZIKV with the potential utility as a vaccine strain.
Carotid web is a radiographic entity located in the posterior aspect of the origin of the internal carotid arteries, considered to be a pathologic equivalent to intimal fibromuscular dysplasia, and has been implicated in acute ischemic strokes. The mechanism underlying its development is unknown and it remains unclear if this lesion is congenital or acquired. The aim of our study was to determine the frequency of carotid webs in a pediatric population with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
A retrospective review of neck CTA, MRA, or DSA images in a pediatric population with acute ischemic stroke was performed to determine the occurrence of carotid webs. Two fellowship-trained neurointerventionists performed independent vascular imaging review.
We identified forty-seven cases of childhood acute ischemic stroke (55% male; median age, 9 years). Congenital heart disease, sickle cell disease, infection, and recent head/neck trauma were the most common risk factors. Eight of the ischemic stroke cases were located in multiple vascular territories. Neck arterial imaging was undertaken in twenty-four patients. No carotid webs were detected in the studied pediatric stroke population. (The correlation coefficient for the determination of webs was Kappa = 1.00; p<0.001).
This study failed to find evidence that carotid webs are congenital. More studies are needed for a better understanding of carotid web origin, natural evolution, and the potential implications for treatment.

A smartphone with an available free application, called "PhotoMetrix" was used to measure the RGB (red, green, blue) values of the color intensities in the AgNPs system and convert into Cr3+ concentration by using univariate calibration curves in less than 60s. This smartphone-based detection system showed a high selectivity of AgNPs with Cr3+ and gave a positive coefficient correlation (R2 = 0.9878) between the intensity of channel R and the Cr3+ concentration, with a linear range of 2.0-5.0 mg L-1, and a detection limit of 1.

Since both glia cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) can protect dopaminergic neurons from neurotoxicity demonstrated in Parkinson's disease (PD) animal models, the present study seeks (1) to develop a novel gene-nanocarrier MB complex carrying BDNF or GDNF gene and (2) to protect dopaminergic neurons in a mouse model of PD via the proposed UTMD system. In the experimental design, PD animals received treatment that delivered GDNF, BDNF, or combined GDNF/BDNF in conjunction with UTMD treatment, and pathological changes in dopamine neurons were histologically examined. Rotarod assay was employed to evaluate the motor behavior. Our results demonstrate that either BDNF or GDNF gene delivery via the UTMD system provides a neuroprotective effect with evidence of improvements of behavioral deficits, decreased calcium influx, GFAP and caspase 3 expression, and rescued dopaminergic neuronal loss. Simultaneously performing GDNF/BDNF gene delivery did not show additional benefits beyond individually delivering BDNF or GDNF genes, possibly due to a hampering effect of simultaneous GDNF/BDNF competing expressions, thus dampening the overall therapeutic effect. In conclusion, these results suggest that UTMD in conjunction with delivery of GDNF or BDNF gene can synergistically serve as an effective gene therapy strategy for neurodegenerative diseases. The DNFB-evoked spontaneous scratching was blocked by the NMDA antagonist D-AP-5, the calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) inhibitor KN-93, a CaMKIIα siRNA and the PKC inhibitor LY317615. Moreover, activation of PKC did not reverse the CaMKIIα knockdown-induced decrease in scratching, suggesting that PKC functions upstream of CaMKIIα. Thus, our study indicates that modulation of NR1 receptor by CaMKIIα plays an important role in the development of chronic itch. Here we prepared some meat sausages using soybean oil in pure liquid form or pre-emulsified form stabilized with nanocelluloses (NCs) to partially replace pork ****-fat and investigated the effects of NC types (sisal cellulose nanofiber, cotton cellulose nanofiber, and cotton cellulose nanocrystal) on the physicochemical properties and microstructure of the sausages. The physicochemical properties, including cooking loss, water holding capacity (WHC), textural properties, and rheological behavior, were evaluated. The results show that the sausages with pre-emulsified oil exhibited ****-improved water and fat binding capacities, with significantly increased hardness, springiness, and chewiness. Additionally, pre-emulsifying soybean oil provided a more compact structure with smaller cavities. The sausages with different NCs had no significant difference in textural and microstructural properties, whereas they presented different water and fat binding capacities. From the results, it is concluded that NC-based emulsions are a viable fat replacer for meat sausages by providing similar stability and textural attributes. V.

Our study addresses this gap by examining auditory discourse comprehension in 32 English/French bilinguals. We tested the prediction of the noisy channel model (Futrell & Gibson, 2017) that bilinguals will rely more on top-down, discourse-level cues in L2 because these are common across languages, as opposed to the language-specific associations of an often weaker L2. We further hypothesized that these effects could be influenced by individual differences, such that participants with lower L2 proficiency or working memory would have more difficulty building and maintaining discourse context. Specifically, we measured the N400 response, an index of automatic semantic processing. We recruited pairs of native English-speaking participants who were friends or romantic couples. Participants reported words from closed-set English sentences (i.e., Oldenburg Matrix Test; Zokoll et al., 2013) spoken by a familiar talker (the participant's partner) or an unfamiliar talker. We compared 3 masker conditions that are acoustically similar but differ in their demands (1) English Oldenburg sentences; (2) Oldenburg sentences in a language incomprehensible to the listener (Russian or Spanish); and (3) unintelligible signal-correlated noise. We adaptively varied the target-to-masker ratio to obtain 50% speech reception thresholds. We observed a large (∼5 dB) familiar-voice benefit when the target and masker were both English sentences. This benefit was attenuated (to ∼2 dB) when the masker was in an incomprehensible language and disappeared when it was signal-correlated noise. These results suggest that familiar voices did not benefit intelligibility because they were more predictable or because they attracted greater attention, rather familiarity with a target voice reduced interference from maskers that are linguistically similar to the target. CBV had a small but significant positive association with emotional engagement and a small but significant negative association with cognitive-behavioral engagement. School-level climate intensified the negative association between student-level CBV and cognitive-behavioral engagement and mitigated the positive association between student-level school climate and emotional engagement. The positive association between CBV and emotional engagement was stronger for high school than middle school students, whereas the negative association between CBV and cognitive-behavioral engagement was stronger for middle than high school students.

We tested the prediction of the noisy channel model (Futrell & Gibson, 2017) that bilinguals will rely more on top-down, discourse-level cues in L2 because these are common across languages, as opposed to the language-specific associations of an often weaker L2. We further hypothesized that these effects could be influenced by individual differences, such that participants with lower L2 proficiency or working memory would have more difficulty building and maintaining discourse context. Specifically, we measured the N400 response, an index of automatic semantic processing. We recruited pairs of native English-speaking participants who were friends or romantic couples. Participants reported words from closed-set English sentences (i.e., Oldenburg Matrix Test; Zokoll et al., 2013) spoken by a familiar talker (the participant's partner) or an unfamiliar talker. We compared 3 masker conditions that are acoustically similar but differ in their demands (1) English Oldenburg sentences; (2) Oldenburg sentences in a language incomprehensible to the listener (Russian or Spanish); and (3) unintelligible signal-correlated noise. We adaptively varied the target-to-masker ratio to obtain 50% speech reception thresholds. We observed a large (∼5 dB) familiar-voice benefit when the target and masker were both English sentences. This benefit was attenuated (to ∼2 dB) when the masker was in an incomprehensible language and disappeared when it was signal-correlated noise. These results suggest that familiar voices did not benefit intelligibility because they were more predictable or because they attracted greater attention, rather familiarity with a target voice reduced interference from maskers that are linguistically similar to the target. Although the most prominent alphavirus outbreaks in the past 15 years featured chikungunya virus, and a large body of work has been dedicated to understanding chikungunya disease mechanisms, this Review will instead focus on other arthritogenic alphaviruses that have been identified globally and provide a comprehensive appraisal of present and future research directions.A 67-year-old Scottish woman presented to her general practitioner with a subcentimeter lump between her shoulder blades. Histopathologic distinction of DFSP from dermatofibroma requires immunohistochemical assessment for CD34, factor XIIIa, nestin, apolipoprotein D, and cathepsin K. Management of this cutaneous sarcoma involves a multidisciplinary oncologic approach. Surgical excision is usually the first step in management. DFSP has a high propensity for local recurrence, even when surgical margins are negative; therefore, radiation therapy or rarely systemic therapy is recommended, especially for locally advanced or metastatic cases. The indolent nature of DFSP requires lifelong surveillance for recurrence; however, most recurrences occur within 3 years of the primary excision. The median time for the development of a local recurrence is estimated to be 32 months. The majority of patients (337, 58.2%) had developed vitiligo between 5 and 12 years of age, and 332 (57.4%) patients had a medical consultation within 1 year of the onset of the disease. The involvement of up to 10% of body surface area in 569 (98.3%) patients, generalized vitiligo in 328 (56.7%) patients, and focal vitiligo in 158 (27.3%) patients were the major presentations. Only 150 (15.9%) patients had family members affected by vitiligo, and associated systemic disorders, predominately thyroid abnormalities, occurred in three (0.5%) patients. Vitiligo was more frequent in children aged 5-12 years, and it affected girls with a slight preponderance, commonly presenting as generalized vitiligo and focal/localized vitiligo. According to the "World Health Organization," of all disabilities, severe mental illness is associated with the highest rates of unemployment. People with mental illness and problems with substance use have especially low employment rates.

To assess the barriers and to identify various strategies to overcome barriers to employment for persons with mental illness and substance use problems and to identify instructors' responses about the functionality of the person who works in the vocational training center, to assess the social support experienced by the respondents.
This is a qualitative study used the purposive sampling method to conduct the study on 15 respondents (five people with mental illness, five caregivers, five instructors) from Department of Psychiatric and Neuro Rehabilitation, NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
Various themes have identified to assess the barriers, aiding factors, and strategies to employment. Barriers to employment have categorized into individual factors, interpersonal factors, employment factors, and social factors. Health, communication, family support, treatment, and training are strategies to improve employability. Proper treatment and continuous adherence to medication, emotional support by family members and colleagues are the employment aiding factors.

Observational assessment (OA) or Workplace Based Assessment (WPBA) is being increasingly used to assess the trainees by direct observation to shape their learning. The current deficiencies in our conventional assessment system are due to lack of conceptualization of assessment as a process for continuous improvement and learning, leading to non-utilization of many available tools of assessment.
The present study aimed to introduce formative assessment (FA) for postgraduates at all the constituent colleges (Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Nursing) under the ambit of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed University) Sawangi (M) Wardha, (Maharashtra), India.
Observational Assessment tools used for FA were Mini CEX (Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise) and DOPS (Direct Observation of Procedural Skills)in addition to Objectively Structured Clinical/Practical Examination (OSCE/OSPE). Six encounters of OAs were conducted at the end of each semester. The OA tool used was either the MiniCEX or/and DOPS, depending on the type of subject (Preclinical, Para-clinical, Clinical).
A significant improvement in scores from one semester to other as the postgraduate learner progresses, was observed. The overall response from the postgraduate students and faculty for FA was satisfactory.
Formative assessment in practical's, was feasible, acceptable and effective program to improve the overall learning and competency of postgraduates.

India, a low-middle income and a developing country is combating with a triple burden of malnutrition with a very cost-effective measure, infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices. But there are a lot of challenges in its implementation which need to be catered. The objective of the present qualitative study was to assess IYCF practices among mothers of children aged 6 months to 2 years in a rural area of Haryana.
Qualitative study was carried out among mothers of children 6 months-2 years in villages of Ballabgarh block of Haryana using focussed group discussion (FGD) and in-depth interview methods. All recordings of FGDs and IDIs were transcribed into verbatim and codes were generated. Thematic analysis of the transcript of in-depth interview and FGD was performed with the help of Doc Tools in MS Word 2016.
The mothers had good knowledge about breastfeeding, importance of colostrum, and weaning practices of infants and children of less than 2 years. Though there is evidence of some cultural misbeliefs, most of the taboos are obsolete now. There was a knowledge gap regarding initiation and composition of complementary feeding practices. The awareness about food diversity, effects of junk food, and recommended complementary feeding practices was less.

Cross-sectional study was conducted in rural area of a teaching hospital to assess general health status and oral health scores of 500 geriatric age group tobacco users and non users. Data analysis was done with SPSS version-20. Chi square test and Mann Whitney U rank test were applied.
Poor self assessed health status was found in tobacco users as compared to nonusers. Significant limitation was found among the tobacco users as compared to nonusers. Significant association was found between the presence of diabetes, COPD, and tobacco use. Tobacco use was found to be significantly associated with poor oral health.

The present study has investigated the effect of yoga on the emotional regulation, self-esteem, and feelings of the adolescents.
The participants of the study are 110 students aged 13-18 years and studying in the senior secondary schools of Mandi district (Himachal Pradesh). The sample consisted of 52 adolescents practicing yoga and 58 adolescents who have never practiced yoga. The primary data has been collected through standardized instruments.
The adolescents practicing yoga were noted to significantly differ from the non-yoga group on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and feeling components.
The significant effect of yoga on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and feelings of the adolescents calls for attention of the policy makers for initiating yoga at the school levels through standardized yoga curricula and training teachers to motivate and inspire the students to learn and practice yoga at an early age.

The objective of the present qualitative study was to assess IYCF practices among mothers of children aged 6 months to 2 years in a rural area of Haryana. Qualitative study was carried out among mothers of children 6 months-2 years in villages of Ballabgarh block of Haryana using focussed group discussion (FGD) and in-depth interview methods. All recordings of FGDs and IDIs were transcribed into verbatim and codes were generated. Thematic analysis of the transcript of in-depth interview and FGD was performed with the help of Doc Tools in MS Word 2016. The mothers had good knowledge about breastfeeding, importance of colostrum, and weaning practices of infants and children of less than 2 years. Though there is evidence of some cultural misbeliefs, most of the taboos are obsolete now. There was a knowledge gap regarding initiation and composition of complementary feeding practices. The awareness about food diversity, effects of junk food, and recommended complementary feeding practices was less. The adolescents practicing yoga were noted to significantly differ from the non-yoga group on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and feeling components. The significant effect of yoga on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and feelings of the adolescents calls for attention of the policy makers for initiating yoga at the school levels through standardized yoga curricula and training teachers to motivate and inspire the students to learn and practice yoga at an early age. We examine shifting demographics that have altered the nature and dynamics of family and formal care systems. Next, we identify changes in clinical health care approaches, including the rising population of chronically ill older persons and concerns about continuity of care. We conclude with an assessment of the growing impact of the technological revolution on both family and professional care.Nearly all current Bayesian phylogenetic applications rely on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to approximate the posterior distribution for trees and other parameters of the model. These approximations are only reliable if Markov chains adequately converge and sample from the joint posterior distribution. Although several studies of phylogenetic MCMC convergence exist, these have focused on simulated data sets or select empirical examples. Therefore, **** that is considered common knowledge about MCMC in empirical systems derives from a relatively small family of analyses under ideal conditions. To address this, we present an overview of commonly applied phylogenetic MCMC diagnostics and an assessment of patterns of these diagnostics across more than 18,000 empirical analyses. Many analyses appeared to perform well and failures in convergence were most likely to be detected using the average standard deviation of split frequencies, a diagnostic that compares topologies among independent chains. Different diagnostics yielded different information about failed convergence, demonstrating that multiple diagnostics must be employed to reliably detect problems. The number of taxa and average branch lengths in analyses have clear impacts on MCMC performance, with more taxa and shorter branches leading to more difficult convergence. We show that the usage of models that include both Γ-distributed among-site rate variation and a proportion of invariable sites is not broadly problematic for MCMC convergence but is also unnecessary. Changes to heating and the usage of model-averaged substitution models can both offer improved convergence in some cases, but neither are a panacea.Although BAFF/BLyS and its receptor, BAFFR, play critical roles in naive B cell survival, the pathways involved in the persistence of memory B cells are largely unknown. We recently demonstrated that a protein kinase, T-LAK cell-originated protein kinase (TOPK) level correlates with the aggressiveness of prostate cancer and its invasive behavior. In this study, we investigated whether TOPK plays a role in driving androgen-independence in prostate cancer cells. Our data demonstrate that TOPK overexpression in androgen-dependent LNCaP and VCaP induces ARv7 and drives androgen-independent growth. On the other hand, pharmacological inhibition of TOPK in androgen-independent LNCaP95 and 22Rv1 represses AR transactivation, and AR stability. In order to study molecular mechanisms of coral-algal symbioses occurring in nature, we performed whole-genome transcriptomic analyses of Acropora tenuis larvae inoculated with Symbiodinium microadriaticum strains isolated from an Acropora recruit. In order to identify genes specifically involved in symbioses with native symbionts in early life stages, we also investigated transcriptomic responses of Acropora larvae exposed to closely related, nonsymbiotic, and occasionally symbiotic Symbiodinium strains. We found that the number of differentially expressed genes was largest when larvae acquired native symbionts. Repertoires of differentially expressed genes indicated that corals reduced amino acid, sugar, and lipid metabolism, such that metabolic enzymes performing these functions were derived primarily from S. microadriaticum rather than from A. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cc-99677.html tenuis. There is a certain relationship between intestinal flora and Parkinson's disease, but the specific mechanism is not clear, and further research is needed to provide more directions for the early diagnosis and early treatment of PD.This article prepared a simvastatin-NLCs for the treatment of arteriosclerotic occlusive disease of lower limbs. Taking the size distribution, polydispersity coefficient, encapsulation efficiency and drug loading of simvastatin-NLCs as evaluation indicators, various prescription factors of simvastatin- NLCs were investigated. The in vitro release behavior and stability of simvastatin-NLCs were also investigated. A hyperlipidemia rat model was established using high-fat diets. SD rats fed ordinary diet were set as normal control groups. 20 rats, 20 in the simvastatin group and 20 in the simvastatin nanocarrier group. After 5 weeks of drug intervention, the rats were sacrificed and the aorta was taken to determine the smooth muscle cell apoptosis rate. Scanning electron microscope to observe the surface morphology of silane coupling modified titanium plate, the shape and size of nano-silver particles, and the adhesion on titanium plate; X-ray energy spectroscopy and line scan analysis of each element on the titanium wafer; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy quantitative analysis of surface elements on the titanium wafer. The experimental group was nano-silver modified titanium sheet, and the control group was smooth titanium sheet. The experimental results show that the titanium material loaded with nano-silver particles has better antibacterial performance in the orthodontic process than ordinary materials. This material is highly safe and can be promoted for use.

In this study, silane coupling method was used to coat nano-silver particles on titanium sheets to make the smooth titanium surface have antibacterial properties. Scanning electron microscope to observe the surface morphology of silane coupling modified titanium plate, the shape and size of nano-silver particles, and the adhesion on titanium plate; X-ray energy spectroscopy and line scan analysis of each element on the titanium wafer; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy quantitative analysis of surface elements on the titanium wafer. The experimental group was nano-silver modified titanium sheet, and the control group was smooth titanium sheet. The experimental results show that the titanium material loaded with nano-silver particles has better antibacterial performance in the orthodontic process than ordinary materials. A 36-year-old woman presented with a 3-month history of recurrent substernal chest pain, which acutely worsened 2 days prior to presentation. Her initial troponin I was mildly elevated and ECG showed subtle changes initially concerning for ischaemia; however, these were present on her prior ECG and were not considered an acute change. Because of her age and lack of significant risk factors, she was considered low risk for cardiac disease and initially treated conservatively for a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. Due to persistent symptoms and dynamic changes on ECG concerning for ischaemia, she was immediately taken for a cardiac catheterisation and was found to have critical left main coronary artery dissection with a focal stenotic lesion. She had an extensive workup to identify the underlying cause of her coronary artery dissection which was unrevealing. She underwent an uncomplicated coronary artery bypass graft surgery and was discharged home in stable condition.Combined checkpoint inhibition therapy targeting the programmed cell death 1 (PD-L1) and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein 4 pathways has been a successful approach in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, leading to its investigation in the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) with PD-L1 expression. Despite the potential for excellent responses, an increased rate of autoimmune neurological toxicity and paraneoplastic conditions has been observed when using these treatment modalities. We present the case of a patient with metastatic HNSCC treated with combination ipilimumab/nivolumab who experienced severe cerebellar ataxia with a positive screen for the anti-Zic4 antibody. This is the first case, to our knowledge, of anti-Zic4 antibody-mediated cerebellar toxicity reported in association with HNSCC. Although the patient experienced an impressive partial response with dual checkpoint inhibition, he suffered grade 4 neurotoxicity. Despite exciting advances in cancer immunotherapy, clinicians must be aware of the rare, debilitating and possibly previously undescribed paraneoplastic and autoimmune toxicities that may occur.Pseudoaneurysm of the aorta is a rare and high-risk complication of native aortic valve endocarditis and can develop following cardiac surgery for aortic valve and root disease. Nkx3.1S186A/-, Nkx3.1+/- , and Nkx3.1+/+ **** were analyzed over one year to determine the levels of Nkx3.1 expression and effects of the mutant protein on the prostate. Allelic loss of Nkx3.1 caused reduced levels of Nkx3.1 protein, increased proliferation, and prostate hyperplasia and dysplasia, whereas Nkx3.1S186A/- mouse prostates had increased levels of Nkx3.1 protein, reduced prostate size, normal histology, reduced proliferation, and increased DNA end labeling. At 2 months of age, when all **** had normal prostate histology, Nkx3.1+/- **** demonstrated indices of metabolic activation, DNA damage response, and stress response. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the neurodegenerative brain disorders inducing nearly half of dementia cases, and the diagnosis and treatment of AD are the primary issues clinically. However, there is a lack of effective biomarkers and drugs for AD diagnosis and therapeutics so far. In this study, bioinformatics analysis combined with an experimental verification strategy was used to identify the biomarkers and the quercetin targets for AD diagnosis and treatment. First, differentially expressed genes in the AD brain were identified by microarray data analysis. Second, quercetin, a predominant flavonoid, was used to screen the target genes. Third, the drug-disease network was determined, and the target genes of quercetin treatment were obtained in AD-related HT-22 cell-based assay. Six genes, including MAPT, PIK3R1, CASP8, DAPK1, MAPK1, and CYCS, were validated by the system pharmacology analysis in the hippocampus samples of AD patients. The results suggested that MAPT, PIK3R1, CASP8, and DAPK1 were significantly increased, but MAPK1 and CYCS were significantly decreased in HT-22 cells after Aβ1-42 treatment. Moreover, MAPK1 and CYCS were markedly increased, but MAPT, PIK3R1, CASP8, and DAPK1 were markedly decreased after quercetin treatment in these HT-22 cells. The current study aimed at comparing the effects of Tai Chi (a motor-cognitive exercise) with walking (an exercise without cognitive demands) on cognitive performance, brain structure, and brain function in the elderly.
This cross-sectional study included 42 healthy elderly women within two groups Tai Chi (
= 20; mean age = 62.90 ± 2.38 years) and brisk walking exercise (
= 22; mean age = 63.27 ± 3.58 years). All the participants underwent a cognitive assessment via the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and brain structural and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) assessments.
Episodic memory in the Tai Chi group was superior to that of the walking group. Higher gray matter density in the inferior and medial temporal regions (including the hippocampus) and higher ReHo in temporal regions (specifically the fusiform gyrus and hippocampus) were found in the Tai Chi group. Significant partial correlations were found between the gray matter density of the left hippocampus and episodic memory in the whole sample. Significant partial correlations were observed between the ReHo in left hippocampus, left parahippocampal, left fusiform, and delayed memory task, which was observed among all subjects.
The present study suggests that long-term Tai Chi practice may improve memory performance via remodeling the structure and function of the hippocampus.

This study demonstrates the effect of Nordic walking (NW) and NW with poles with an integrated resistance shock absorber (NW with RSA) on aerobic capacity and body composition in postmenopausal women. It also measures the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) serum levels and determines correlations with cognitive functions and depression symptoms. These relationships with the use of NW with RSA as a new form of exercise have not been described thus far. In this study, 31 women (NW - 16, NW with RSA - 15) participated in eight weeks of training. The findings showed that only NW with RSA training caused a significant decrease in body mass and body mass index (p less then 0.05). There were no significant changes in GDNF levels between groups studied.

Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) is a rare disorder of unknown etiology, strongly associated with alcoholism and malnutrition. MBD causes primary involvement of the corpus callosum, leading to confusion, dysarthria, seizures, and frequent death. We report the case of a 54-year-old male without a history of alcoholism or known malabsorption disease, who presented with altered consciousness and neurologic impairment. Complex B deficiency was addressed. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed typical corpus callosum lesions. The clinical features and radiologic images suggested spinal cord involvement. Brain histopathologic findings were consistent with MBD. Despite vitamin replacement therapy, he had a poor outcome.Caudal regression syndrome is a rare disorder of developmental failure of lumbosacral vertebra and corresponding spinal cord during notochord formation. The severity varies from absent coccyx to complete absence of lumbosacral vertebra and caudal spinal cord. Both genetic and environmental factors are believed to play roles in aetiopathogenesis of caudal regression. The authors report a two-month-old child born to a diabetic mother, in whom the diagnosis of caudal regression syndrome type III was confirmed based on clinical and radiological characteristics. The child was managed by the multidisciplinary team to continue supportive care and screen and monitor for long-term complications. The long-term prognosis for mobility was less favourable given the presence of bilateral hip dysplasia and involvement of lumbar vertebra in addition to sacral agenesis.Oroantral fistula (OAF) often develops after extraction of posterior maxillary teeth and requires surgical closure. If it persists, OAF may result in maxillary sinusitis. This paper reports a case of an oroantral fistula, associated with chronic maxillary sinusitis. A 46-year-old female patient presented with a history of traumatic tooth extraction, which led to OAF formation. Three unsuccessful attempts were made to close it elsewhere. With one operation, we performed Caldwell-Luc surgery and closed OAF with a collagen membrane and plug and a buccal flap. The patient was assessed at 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month and 8-year follow-up visits, with no signs of maxillary sinusitis or OAF recurrence being found with the efficient amount of bone and opportunity for further dental rehabilitation like sinus lifting and dental implantation. We believe that this approach may be a viable option in similar cases.

However, permanent retention implies permanent supervision, and that is where reality clashes with stability. However, to communicate effectively with parents about vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases, it is necessary to assess their vaccine-related attitudes and concerns continually. Recently the Palestine Ministry of Health has recorded epidemics of measles and mumps. Poor compliance with vaccination has been attributed to multiple factors including physician inadequacy advocating for vaccination and public mistrust of vaccinations. As a result, this study was conducted to describe the vaccine-related attitudes, concerns, and information sources of North Palestinian parents of young children. A cross-sectional survey was conducted involving parents visiting emergency departments and primary health care centers from different North Palestinian hospitals and centers. 480 surveys were eligible and analyzed. The surveys revealed that although parental confidence in vaccine safety is high, several vaccine-related concerns, such as pain from vaccine administration and the number of vaccines given at once, were common among parents of young children. To maintain and improve the success of childhood vaccines in preventing disease, a holistic approach is needed to address parents' concerns in an ongoing manner. Listening and responding in ways and with resources that address specific questions and concerns could help parents make more informed vaccination decisions.
Uterine rupture is a leading cause of maternal death in Ethiopia. Despite strengthening the health care system and providing basic and comprehensive emergency obstetric care closer to the communities, uterine rupture continues to produce devastating maternal and fetal outcomes. Although risk factors of uterine rupture are context specific, there is lack of clarity in our context towards the contributing factors and untoward outcomes of uterine rupture. This study was conducted to identify the risk factors of uterine rupture and its impacts in public hospitals of Tigrai.
This study would identify determinant factors of uterine rupture and its management outcomes among mothers who gave birth in public hospitals in Tigrai region, North Ethiopia.
A retrospective hospital-based unmatched case control study design was implemented with 135 cases of women with uterine rupture and 270 controls of women without uterine rupture. Cases were enrolled consecutively from case notes of women who gave birth from 1/9/2015 to 30/6/2019, while charts (case note) of women without uterine rupture found following the cases were selected randomly and enrolled.
Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) is a rare disorder of unknown etiology, strongly associated with alcoholism and malnutrition. MBD causes primary involvement of the corpus callosum, leading to confusion, dysarthria, seizures, and frequent death. We report the case of a 54-year-old male without a history of alcoholism or known malabsorption disease, who presented with altered consciousness and neurologic impairment. Complex B deficiency was addressed. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed typical corpus callosum lesions. The clinical features and radiologic images suggested spinal cord involvement. Brain histopathologic findings were consistent with MBD. Despite vitamin replacement therapy, he had a poor outcome.Caudal regression syndrome is a rare disorder of developmental failure of lumbosacral vertebra and corresponding spinal cord during notochord formation. The severity varies from absent coccyx to complete absence of lumbosacral vertebra and caudal spinal cord. Both genetic and environmental factors are believed to play roles in aetiopathogenesis of caudal regression. The authors report a two-month-old child born to a diabetic mother, in whom the diagnosis of caudal regression syndrome type III was confirmed based on clinical and radiological characteristics. The child was managed by the multidisciplinary team to continue supportive care and screen and monitor for long-term complications. The long-term prognosis for mobility was less favourable given the presence of bilateral hip dysplasia and involvement of lumbar vertebra in addition to sacral agenesis.Oroantral fistula (OAF) often develops after extraction of posterior maxillary teeth and requires surgical closure. If it persists, OAF may result in maxillary sinusitis. This paper reports a case of an oroantral fistula, associated with chronic maxillary sinusitis. A 46-year-old female patient presented with a history of traumatic tooth extraction, which led to OAF formation. Three unsuccessful attempts were made to close it elsewhere. With one operation, we performed Caldwell-Luc surgery and closed OAF with a collagen membrane and plug and a buccal flap. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections among children. It is noted that the risk of renal damage from UTI is the greatest in children younger than five years, thus early diagnosis and prompt treatment are important. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of UTI in children attending pediatric outpatient clinics in Zagazig and Tanta University Hospitals as tertiary care hospitals. Furthermore, we attempted to determine related risk factors, isolate the organisms that cause UTI in children, and study their antibiotic susceptibility patterns. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 1200 toddlers and children, (754 boys and 446 girls) aged between 30 months and seven years attending the pediatric outpatient clinics of Zagazig and Tanta University Hospitals. All patient groups were subjected to full medical history, physical examination, dipstick analysis by using both nitrite and leukocyte esterase (LE) detectors, microscopic examinations, and urine culture for cases with the positive LE, positive nitrite dipstick test for urine or positive for both LE and nitrite. The incidence of UTI among children included in the current study was 7%. Positive LE was seen in 112 (9.3%), nitrite positivity was seen in 94 (7.8%), and both LE and nitrite positivity in 34 (2.8%). Escherichia coli was the most common organism. Cefotaxime and amikacin were the most common sensitive antibiotics to the isolates.The global prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in adults is increasing all over the world. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of the most common complications of DM. The aim of the present work is to study chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients newly diagnosed with type 2 DM as regards incidence and associations. This is a comparative cross-sectional study. DKD was present in 45.75% of patients. In our study, 54.9% of patients had microalbuminuria, 39.2% had macroalbuminuria, and 5.9% had severely increased albuminuria. As regards eGFR, 5.2% of patients had eGFR less then 60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Regression analysis showed that increased levels of cholesterol, triglyceride, and glycated hemoglobin were associated with an increased likelihood of developing nephropathy while nonsmoking and elevated high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were associated with a reduction in that likelihood. DKD was present in a substantial proportion of our patients at diagnosis. Routine screening for DKD is recommended in all patients early at the onset itself of diagnosis with type 2 DM.Glomerulonephritis associated with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) vasculitis still has a high prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), particularly in patients with advanced renal failure at presentation. This study aims to evaluate the clinical and histo- pathological features of renal involvement and investigate factors associated with ESRD. Patients with renal biopsy-proven ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis were included retrospectively over a period of nine years (June 2007 to March 2016). The renal survival, defined as time to reach ESRD, was evaluated based on clinical parameters, histopathological classification, and renal risk score. A total of 37 patients with crescentic glomerulonephritis were included in the study. The average age was 54 ± 16 years (range 17-80) and 51.3% were female. Twenty-two patients were diagnosed with microscopic polyangiitis and 15 had granulomatosis with polyangiitis. The median glomerular filtration rate at presentation was 16.73 mL/min/1.73 m2. Thirty-five patients (94.5%) had renal failure at presentation and 23 patients (62.1%) required initial hemodialysis (HD) therapy. The pattern of glomerular injury was categorized as sclerotic in 48.6% of cases, crescentic in 24.3%, mixed in 24.3%, and focal class in 2.7%. Regarding renal risk score, we had five patients with low risk, 17 with intermediate risk and 15 with high risk. ESRD occurred in 47% of intermediate-risk group and 66% of the high risk group. During follow-up, 17 patients (45.9%) developed ESRD. Tobacco addiction (P = 0.02), alveolar hemorrhage (P = 0.04), hypertension (P = 0.04), initial HD (P = 0.04), and sclerotic class (P = 0.004) were associated with ESRD. In our patients, a sclerotic class was associated with a higher risk of ESRD, suggesting that histo- pathological classification is potentially an important parameter to predict outcomes in renal disease secondary to ANCA-associated vasculitis.Glomerular diseases are considered to be a significant cause of chronic kidney disease. We review the renal biopsies which were done on children below the age of 14 years in the past 10 years (from January 2008 to September 2018) in a single tertiary pediatric hospital in Saudi Arabia to determine the patterns of renal disease among Saudi children as well-correlating clinical presentation with histopathological diagnosis. A total of 203 pediatric kidney biopsies were performed. The mean age was 7.3 ± 3.9 years (3 months to 14 years). There were 105 males and 98 females. The most frequent indication for renal biopsy was nephrotic syndrome in 58.9% of patients, followed by acute glomerulo- nephritis in 20.8%. Other indications included significant proteinuria, persistent microscopic hematuria, acute kidney injury of uncertain etiology, in the remaining 20% of biopsies. Clinical diagnosis was consistent with histopathological diagnosis in 92% of the cases. Minimal change disease was the most common cause of primary glomerular diseases in 37.4%, followed by focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in 20.2%. Lupus nephritis represents the most common cause of the secondary renal disease (8.4%). Complications of kidney biopsy were observed in only 16.3% of patients, of whom 9.9% had perirenal hematomas and 6.4% of the patients developed either microscopic hematuria or macroscopic hematuria.
