    The COVID-19 outbreak has posed considerable challenges to the health care system worldwide, especially for cancer treatment. We described the activity and the care organisation of the Hospitalisation At Home (HAH) structure during the pandemic for treating patients with anti-cancer injections.

    We report the established organisation, the eligibility criteria, the patient characteristics, the treatment schemes and the stakeholders' role during two 5-week periods in 2020, before and during the French population's lockdown.

    The increase of activity during the lockdown (+32% of treated patients, +156% of new patients and +28% of delivered preparations) concerned solid tumour, mainly breast cancer, even if haematological malignancies remained the most frequent. Thirty different drugs were delivered, including three new drugs administered in HAH versus 19 during the routine period (p<0.01). For those clinical departments accustomed to using HAH, the usual organisation was kept, but with adjustments. Five creating cancer patients should be reappraised, even more so during a pandemic.This study was conducted in order to investigate biological compatibility of a thin and flexible hydroxyapatite (HAP) paper which consists of ultralong hydroxyapatite nanowires. Circular-shaped cranial bone defects with a diameter of 8.8 mm were prepared to expose the dura maters in Wistar rats. The similar-sized, circular-shaped HAP paper was placed at the bottom of the bone defects. After 2, 4, and 8 weeks, the rats were sacrificed, and the experimental sections were examined by micro-CT scanning and histological observation. The HAP paper covered with fibrous tissues showed no inflammatory cell infiltration, and their thicknesses decreased over time. Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive osteoclast-like cells were induced around the edges of the HAP paper along with the exfoliation of the HAP paper. The newly-formed bones were observed in the bone-defected areas, either with a direct contact with the HAP paper or through thin fibrous tissues. The HAP paper-induced osteoblast differentiation was confirmed since the alkaline phosphatase activities were detected on the surfaces of the HAP paper. These results indicated that the HAP paper may induce osteogenesis without causing any harmful effects. The highly flexible HAP paper can contribute to further development of bone regenerative therapy.Renal masses containing macroscopic fat traditionally are pathognomonic for angiomyolipoma, a benign tumour. We describe two cases contrary to this axiom, the first being initially referred for angioembolisation, but subsequently biopsied when it was angiographically occult, whilst the second case showed a small macroscopic fat component and arterial enhancement prompting biopsy. Neither of these two cases demonstrated calcification which would usually suggest a more sinister lesion requiring further workup. The results demonstrated renal cell carcinoma for both lesions. Here, polycaprolactone (PCL) is selected as a synthetic polymer used for the fabrication of scaffolds, and the effect of protein addition on the final scaffolds' properties is studied.   • Genetic, transcriptional, and morphological differences have been reported in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cases. We recently found that epithelial or mesenchymal features were enhanced in three-dimensional (3D) cultures compared to two-dimensional (2D) cultures. In this study, we examined the differences in the morphological and functional characteristics of eight PDAC cell lines in 2D and 3D cultures. Most PDAC cells showed similar pleomorphic morphologies in 2D culture. Under 3D culture, PDAC cells with high E-cadherin and low vimentin expression levels (epithelial) formed small round spheres encircled with flat lining cells, whereas those with high vimentin and low E-cadherin expression levels (mesenchymal) formed large grape-like spheres without lining cells and were highly proliferative. In 3D culture, gemcitabine was more effective for the spheres formed by PDAC cells with epithelial features, while abraxane was more effective on those with mesenchymal features. The expression levels of drug transporters were highest PDAC cells with high vimentin expression levels. These findings indicate that PDAC cells possess various levels of epithelial and mesenchymal characteristics. The 3D-culture method is useful for investigating the diversity of PDAC cell lines and may play important roles in the development of personalized early diagnostic methods and anticancer drugs for PDAC.To achieve seizure freedom, epilepsy surgery requires the complete resection of the epileptogenic brain tissue. In intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG) recordings, high frequency oscillations (HFOs) generated by epileptogenic tissue can be used to tailor the resection margin. However, automatic detection of HFOs in real-time remains an open challenge. Here we present a spiking neural network (SNN) for automatic HFO detection that is optimally suited for neuromorphic hardware implementation. We trained the SNN to detect HFO signals measured from intraoperative ECoG on-line, using an independently labeled dataset (58 min, 16 recordings). We targeted the detection of HFOs in the fast ripple frequency range (250-500 Hz) and compared the network results with the labeled HFO data. We endowed the SNN with a novel artifact rejection mechanism to suppress sharp transients and demonstrate its effectiveness on the ECoG dataset. The HFO rates (median 6.6 HFO/min in pre-resection recordings) detected by this SNN are comparable to those published in the dataset (Spearman's [Formula see text] = 0.81). The postsurgical seizure outcome was "predicted" with 100% (CI [63 100%]) accuracy for all 8 patients. These results provide a further step towards the construction of a real-time portable battery-operated HFO detection system that can be used during epilepsy surgery to guide the resection of the epileptogenic zone.Dual-energy CT (DECT) material decomposition techniques may better detect edema within cerebral infarcts than conventional non-contrast CT (NCCT). This study compared if Virtual Ischemia Maps (VIM) derived from non-contrast DECT of patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO) are superior to NCCT for ischemic core estimation, compared against reference-standard DWI-MRI. Only patients whose baseline ischemic core was most likely to remain stable on follow-up MRI were included, defined as those with excellent post-thrombectomy revascularization or no perfusion mismatch. Twenty-four consecutive AIS-LVO patients with baseline non-contrast DECT, CT perfusion (CTP), and DWI-MRI were analyzed. The primary outcome measure was agreement between volumetric manually segmented VIM, NCCT, and automatically segmented CTP estimates of the ischemic core relative to manually segmented DWI volumes. Volume agreement was assessed using Bland-Altman plots and comparison of CT to DWI volume ratios. DWI volumes were better approximated by VIM than NCCT (VIM/DWI ratio 0.68 ± 0.35 vs. NCCT/DWI ratio 0.34 ± 0.35; P  less then  0.001) or CTP (CTP/DWI ratio 0.45 ± 0.67; P  less then  0.001), and VIM best correlated with DWI (rVIM = 0.90; rNCCT = 0.75; rCTP = 0.77; P  less then  0.001). Though direct replacement of damaged cells may be achieved through differentiation capacity of ****, more recent data indicate that various cytokines and chemokines secreted by **** are involved in synergetic therapy of RISI by anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, antioxidant, revascularization, and anti-apoptotic activity. In this paper, we not only discussed different sources of **** on the treatment of RISI both in preclinical studies and clinical trials, but also summarized the applications and mechanisms of **** in other related regenerative fields.
    Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and a subsequent neuroinflammatory process. We aimed to perform a multiplex screening of brain enriched and inflammatory proteins in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in order to study their role in BBB disruption, neuroinflammation and long-term functional outcome in TBI patients and healthy controls.

    We conducted a prospective, observational study on 90 severe TBI patients and 15 control subjects. Clinical outcome data, Glasgow Outcome Score, was collected after 6-12months. We utilized a suspension bead antibody array analyzed on a FlexMap 3D Luminex platform to characterize 177 unique proteins in matched CSF and serum samples. In addition, we assessed BBB disruption using the CSF-serum albumin quotient (Q
    ), and performed Apolipoprotein E-genotyping as the latter has been linked to BBB function in the absence of trauma. We employed pathway-, cluster-, and proportional odds regression analyses. Key findings wential support to the notion that neuroinflammatory markers, including complement activation, predicts BBB disruption and long-term outcome. Individual proteins identified here could potentially serve to refine current biomarker modelling or represent novel treatment targets in severe TBI.

Ephedrine is commonly used to treat intraoperative hypotension. It is an attractive therapeutic, due to its dual action on receptors alpha and beta and its possible peripheral intravenous infusion. There are few data in the literature on the use of ephedrine in the context of pediatric anesthesia. The actual recommended dose of ephedrine (0.1 to 0.2 mg/Kg) frequently leads to a therapeutic failure in neonates and infants up to 6 months of age. The use of higher doses would probably lead to a better correction of hypotension in this population. The objective of our project is to determine the optimal dose of ephedrine for the treatment of hypotension after induction o 3 days postanesthesia.

    A total of 390 breast cancer patients with planned sentinel lymph node biopsy from our breast surgery department from July 2017 to February 2019 were enrolled. All patients were subjected to preoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), that involved an intracutaneous injection of 1 mL ultrasonic contrast agent (UCA) at 3 and 6 o 'clock, as well as a subcutaneous injection of 1 mL UCA at 9 and 12 o'clock. The enhanced lymph nodes along the enhanced lymphatic vessels from the mammary areola were traced. The number of enhanced lymph nodes were recorded, and an ultrasound-guided injection of 110 diluted carbon nanoparticles were used to mark all first site enhanced lymph nodes (i.e., SLNs).     Radiation-induced skin injury (RISI) is one of the common serious side effects of radiotherapy (RT) for patients with malignant tumors. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are applied to RISI repair in some clinical cases series except some traditional options. Though direct replacement of damaged cells may be achieved through differentiation capacity of MSCs, more recent data indicate that various cytokines and chemokines secreted by MSCs are involved in synergetic therapy of RISI by anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, antioxidant, revascularization, and anti-apoptotic activity. We conducted a prospective, observational study on 90 severe TBI patients and 15 control subjects. Clinical outcome data, Glasgow Outcome Score, was collected after 6-12months.   • Both hospital effluent and a model sewage treatment plant (STP) wastewater prepared by mixing STP influent and STP secondary effluent at a volume ratio of 19 were directly treated with chlorine for investigation of their effects on disinfection of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (AMRB) and antimicrobial-susceptible bacteria (AMSB). The overall results indicate that the chlorine disinfection effectively inactivated the majority of AMRB and AMSB, expect for MRSA and Staphylococcus aureus in both wastewaters. No significant differences could further be observed in the taxonomic diversity of micro-organisms after the treatment. The degrees of disinfection given by the direct chlorination were comparable to those attained by combination of conventional activated sludge process and additional chlorine treatment at the STP. The results of this study evoked a recommendation to operate local chlorination treatment directly for the wastewater from medicinal facilities prior to its flow into the STP as sewage. These TRP family channels seemed to be largely activated in a manner dependent on phospholipase C activity, and together with Orai channels, contributed to SOCE. We show that age-standardized YPLL was markedly higher among the non-Hispanic (NH) Black (559 years per 100,000 population) and the Hispanic (811) compared with NH white decedents (312). We demonstrate that geomapping using residential address data at the individual-level identifies hot-spots of COVID-19 mortality in neighborhoods on the Northeast, West, and South areas of Chicago that reflect a legacy of residential segregation and persistence of inequality in education, income, and access to healthcare. The dropped renal stones may mimic peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) on imaging, causing concern and potentially leading to unnecessary diagnostic workup. Additionally, these dropped stones may cause surrounding inflammation, potentially leading to the formation of adhesions or an intra-abdominal abscess. Calcifications along the peritoneal lining are generally interpreted as peritoneal carcinomatosis until proven otherwise. However, this case highlights the importance of a detailed history and comparison with prior imaging. We describe a rare case of intraperitoneal spilled renal stones after pyelolithotomy initially mistaken for PC, in addition to a review of diagnostic pitfalls and radiologic mimics of PC.

    Combined oral contraceptives (COC) and progestogens are widely used for the treatment of endometriosis. The objective of the study is to compare the efficacy of dienogest 2 mg vs continuous oral levonorgestrel/EE (levonorgestrel 0.1 mg/ethinyl estradiol 0.02 mg) on ovarian endometriomas, deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE), chronic pelvic pain (CPP), dyspareunia, analgesic use, quality of life (QoL), compliance and side effects.

    Prospective cohort study. Two cohorts of patients with endometriosis, 50 taking dienogest (group A) and 50 taking continuous levonorgestrel/EE (group B), were evaluated at the beginning of therapy (t0), after 3 (t3) and 6 months (t6). Size of endometriomas, DIE, QoL, pain symptoms, and side effects were assessed.

    Dienogest was significantly effective on CPP (
     = .002), dyspareunia (
     = .021) ovarian endometriomas (
     = .015) and DIE lesions reduction (
     = .014). Levonorgestrel/EE was significantly effective on dyspareunia (
     = .023). Analgesics consumption significantly decreased in both groups (

    984 hemifacial spasm patients who underwent MVD from Jan 2017 to Dec 2017 were analyzed. They were divided into the conventional treatment group (control;

     = 531). The multimodal ERAS protocol consists of 23 perioperative elements. Time to feeding, mobilization, and urinary catheter removal, wound pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and total, preoperative, and perioperative hospital length of stay (LOS), along with outcomes and complications, were analyzed.

    The patients in both groups had similar clinical characteristics. Patients in the ERAS group had significantly higher rates of early feeding (469 [88.5%], ERAS, vs. 183 [40.6%], control;
     < 0.05), early mobilization (497 [93.7%], ERAS, vs. 215 [47.7%], control;
     < 0.05), and early removal of urinary catheter (458 [86.4%], ERAS, vs. 175 [38.8%], control;

Prospective cohort study. Two cohorts of patients with endometriosis, 50 taking dienogest (group A) and 50 taking continuous levonorgestrel/EE (group B), were evaluated at the beginning of therapy (t0), after 3 (t3) and 6 months (t6). Size of endometriomas, DIE, QoL, pain symptoms, and side effects were assessed. To assess the efficacy of microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm with an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol. 984 hemifacial spasm patients who underwent MVD from Jan 2017 to Dec 2017 were analyzed. They were divided into the conventional treatment group (control;  = 453) and the later ERAS group (  = 531). The multimodal ERAS protocol consists of 23 perioperative elements. Time to feeding, mobilization, and urinary catheter removal, wound pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and total, preoperative, and perioperative hospital length of stay (LOS), along with outcomes and complications, were analyzed. The patients in both groups had similar clinical characteristics. Patients in the ERAS group had significantly higher rates of early feeding (469 [88.5%], ERAS, vs. 183 [40.6%], control;  < 0.05), early mobilization (497 [93.7%], ERAS, vs. 215 [47.7%], control;  < 0.05), and early removal of urinary catheter (458 [86.4%], ERAS, vs. 175 [38.8%], control;  < 0.05). Farmers who raised chickens at their farmhouses were surveyed using a KAP survey questionnaire, and 106 chicken meat samples were analyzed for 29 kinds of antibiotic residues. The results showed that 27.4% samples were positive with 11 kinds of 4 antibiotic groups fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides, tetracycline, and macrolides. A total of 50.9% farmers needed to improve their knowledge on the appropriate use of antibiotics. Although 54.7% famers had positive attitude, just 17% had good practices. It was recommended that the levels of antibiotic residues in chickens should be communicated to food safety and veterinary authorities, chicken farmers, and the general public. Enhancing the training and coaching for each group of farmers to improve their knowledge and practices on the appropriate use of antibiotics in raising chickens is needed. It can be calculated in large, pre-existing datasets to investigate clinical correlates of inflammatory processes. NLR may have a future role in identifying patients with an inflammatory phenotype who could benefit from adjunctive anti-inflammatory medications.OBJECTIVE Cognitive reserve influences age of onset, speed of progression, and clinical manifestations of Alzheimer's disease. We investigated whether cognitive reserve interacts with clinical and neuropsychological parameters in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we recruited 273 people (70.6 ± 10.1 years, 54.6% women) suffering from subjective memory complaints (n = 65), MCI (n = 121), or dementia (n = 87). Patients underwent neuropsychological evaluation, laboratory testing, and brain imaging. Additionally, we obtained information on years of education and help-seeking motivation. RESULTS MCI patients with a university degree were significantly older than those without (71.6 ± 9.6 vs. 66.9 ± 10.3, p = 0.02). University-educated MCI patients demonstrated superior performance in verbal fluency. Intrinsic help-seeking motivation (self-referral) was associated with higher cognitive reserve. Female MCI patients presented with greater intrinsic motivation. CONCLUSION Cognitive reserve modulates clinical and neuropsychological measures in patients with MCI.

In addition, the majority of the tumor tissues presented with MSI. Therefore, the present findings suggested that the genetic mutations in p53 caused by MSI following allogeneic HSCT may promote tumorigenesis. Decitabine is a DNA demethylation agent but it has not been used for T-ALL treatment. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the inhibitory effect of decitabine on T-ALL molt4 cells and determine its regulatory role in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Molt4 cells were stimulated with decitabine in vitro, after which cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle analyses were performed to assess cell viability. Subcellular morphology was observed using transmission electron microscopy. Expression levels of phosphate and tension homology (PTEN), genes involved in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and the corresponding downstream genes were analyzed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blotting. The results showed that decitabine induced apoptosis, inhibited proliferation and arrested molt4 cells in the G2 phase. Following decitabine intervention, an increase in the number of lipid droplets, autophagosomes and mitochondrial damage was observed. At concentrations of 1 and 10 µM, decitabine downregulated the expression of PI3K, AKT, mTOR, P70S6 and eukaryotic initiating factor 4E-binding protein 1, which in turn upregulated PTEN expression; however, 50 µM decitabine downregulated PTEN levels. In the present study, the role of BRAP2 in both pathways was clarified during apoptosis and cell proliferation in a leukemia cell line. A BRAP2-deficient leukemia cell line was generated using CRISPR/Cas9, the BRAP2-deficient and parental cells were treated with a Ras, pan-Raf or PI3K inhibitor, and the changes in signal transduction, apoptosis and cell proliferation were evaluated. BRAP2 knockout attenuated the inhibition of signal transduction of the Ras-Raf-MEK and PI3K/Akt pathways by the Ras, pan-Raf or PI3K inhibitor. BRAP2 deletion also suppressed the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of the Ras and pan-Raf inhibitors. However, the loss of BRAP2 did not suppress the cytotoxicity of the PI3K inhibitor but did suppress the PI3K inhibitor-induced inhibition of cell proliferation. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the inhibitory effect of decitabine on T-ALL molt4 cells and determine its regulatory role in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Molt4 cells were stimulated with decitabine in vitro, after which cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle analyses were performed to assess cell viability. Subcellular morphology was observed using transmission electron microscopy. Expression levels of phosphate and tension homology (PTEN), genes involved in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and the corresponding downstream genes were analyzed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blotting. The results showed that decitabine induced apoptosis, inhibited proliferation and arrested molt4 cells in the G2 phase. Following decitabine intervention, an increase in the number of lipid droplets, autophagosomes and mitochondrial damage was observed. BRAP2 knockout attenuated the inhibition of signal transduction of the Ras-Raf-MEK and PI3K/Akt pathways by the Ras, pan-Raf or PI3K inhibitor. BRAP2 deletion also suppressed the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of the Ras and pan-Raf inhibitors. However, the loss of BRAP2 did not suppress the cytotoxicity of the PI3K inhibitor but did suppress the PI3K inhibitor-induced inhibition of cell proliferation.   • Focused antenatal care is the most significant and inclusive care given to pregnant women to promote and maintain the optimal health of the mother and the fetus. Providing respectful care during focused antenatal care is believed to be the most important cost-effective interventions to increase maternity service utilization. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess respectful focused antenatal care and associated factors among pregnant women who visit Shashemene town public hospitals, Oromia region, Ethiopia, 2019.

    Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from July-August, 2019. A total of 423 pregnant mothers were selected using a systematic sampling technique. Data were collected using structured and pre-tested interviewer-administered questionnaires. Data entry and analysis were made using Epi Info version™ 7 and Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24.0 respectively. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify associated factors. St antenatal care is mainly affected by educational level, average family monthly income, having an unplanned pregnancy, and gravidity. Providing acceptable, quality, and honorable care for all women regardless of educational status, family income, and status of pregnancy is very crucial to entice more mothers to the health facility.
    Currently, many patients suffering from dementia do not have a diagnosis when admitted to geriatric hospitals. This is the case despite an increased risk of complications affecting the length of stay and outcome. Unfortunately, many dementia screening tests cannot be used on geriatric inpatients, who are often bedridden. Therefore, we aimed at evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of a small battery of bedside tasks that require minimal vision and fine motor skills in patients with suspected dementia.

    In this prospective study, the Bamberg Dementia Screening Test (BDST) was administered to a consecutive series of 1295 patients referred for neuropsychological testing. The diagnosis of dementia was confirmed in 1159 and excluded in 136 patients. Sensitivity and specificity for the first subtest (ultra-short form), the first two subtests (short form), and the total score of the BDST were obtained via receiver operating characteristic curves and compared with the sensitivity and specificity values of the Mini-Methe examiner and the person being tested should be minimized.
    The BDST is able to detect dementia in geriatric hospital settings. If the adaptive algorithm is used, administration time can be reduced to less than 2 min in most cases. Because no test materials have to be exchanged, this test is particularly suitable for infectious environments where contact between the examiner and the person being tested should be minimized.

Ultrasonography demonstrated a large left ovarian mass measurings represent a rare category, they must be considered in the differential diagnosis for mild virilization symptoms in young females due to the importance of early diagnosis and management. In this manuscript, we aimed to present the first case report from Syria that highlights the crucial role of detailed morphological examination for challenging cases despite the difficulties in differential diagnosis, and the absence of ancillary techniques.     A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among adults residing in Arba Minch HDSS in 2017. The estimated sample size was 3368 individuals which were selected by simple random sampling techniques using Arba Minch HDSS dataset. Data collection tools were obtained from the WHO STEPwise. Current use of tobacco, which defined as the current use of smoked and/or smokeless tobacco, was considered as the dependent variable. A binary logistic regression model was used to identify candidate variables for the multivariable logistic regression model.     We examined first-year medical students in a cross-sectional study and assessed sense of coherence (SOC) and resilience as parameters from the salutogenesis model by Antonovsky in a structured way using validated, self-administered questionnaires. In total, we examined 236 students of human medicine, dentistry and molecular medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).

    Our analyses showed significantly higher values of resilience among male students compared to female students (p< 0.01). In contrast, even though a significant correlation between resilience and SOC was observed, only a non-significantly lower value of SOC was found in female students.

  • Hair loss is a common complication after metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS). There is a lack of published systematic review in the scientific literature on this topic. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on hair loss after MBS in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines.

    PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and four Chinese databases were searched. Data were pooled using Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 12.0, and subgroups were performed if necessary and feasible.

    A total of 18 studies (n = 2538) were included. The pooled results showed that the incidence of hair loss after MBS was 57% (95% CI 42-71%). It decreased with longer follow-up times. Hair loss was significantly more common in younger (mean difference (MD), - 2.45; 95% CI, - 4.26 to - 0.64; p = 0.008) women (OR, 3.87; 95% CI, 0.59 to 17.59; p = 0.08). Serum zinc (standardized mean difference (SMD), - 1.13; 95% CI, - 2.27 to 0.01, p = 0.05), folic acid (SMD = - 0.88, 95% CI - 1.29 to - 0.46, p < 0.0001), and ferritin levels (SMD, - 0.22; 95% CI, - 0.38 to - 0.05; p = 0.01), but not serum iron and vitamin B

    Hundreds of thousands of patient-safety clinical incidents are reported to the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) database in England and Wales every year. The purpose of this study was to identify bariatric surgery-related learning points from these incidents.

    We analysed bariatric surgery-related clinical incidents reported to the NRLS database between 01 April 2005 and 31st October 2020. The authors used their experience to identify learning themes, attribute severity, and design a safety checklist from these reported incidents.

    We identified 541 bariatric surgery-related clinical incidents in 58 different themes. Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative incidents represented 30.3% (N = 164), 38.1% (N = 206), and 31.6% (N = 171) incidents respectively. One hundred fifty (27.7%), 244 (45.1%), and 147 (27.2%) incidents were attributed high, medium, and low severity respectively. The most commonly reported high severity theme was the failure of thromboprophylaxis (50; 9.2%). Intraoperative high severity incidents included 17 incidents of stapling of orogastric/nasogastric tubes or temperature probes, 8 missed needles, 8 broken graspers, and 6 incidents of band parts left behind. Postoperatively, the most commonly reported high severity theme was improper management of diabetes mellitus (DM) (35; 6.5%). Medication errors represented a significant proportion of the medium severity incidents.

Afterwards, same flows are calculated using state-of-the-art turbulence models. The stresses are computed for every result using our definition of an equivalent scalar stress, which includes the influence from respective turbulence model, by using the parameter dissipation. Afterwards, the results are compared with the baseline data.

    The results show a good agreement regarding the computed stress. Even when no turbulence is resolved by the simulation method, the results agree well with DNS data. When the influence of non-resolved motion is neglected in the stress calculation, it is underpredicted in all cases.

    The Frozen Elephant Trunk (FET) stent is a hybrid endovascular device that may be implemented in the event of an aneurysm or aortic dissection of the aortic arch or superior descending aorta. A Type 1B endoleak can lead to intrasaccular flow during systole and has been identified as a known failure of the FET stent graft. The purpose was to develop in-vitro modelling techniques to enable the investigation of the known failure.

    A silicone aortic phantom and 3D printed surrogate stent graft were manufactured to investigate the haemodynamics of a Type 1B endoleak. Physiological pulsatile flow dynamics distal to the surrogate stent graft were investigated in-vitro using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).

    PIV captured recirculation zones and an endoleak distal to the surrogate stent graft. The endoleak was developed at the peak of systole and sustained until the onset of diastole. The endoleak was asymmetric, indicating a potential variation in the phantom artery wall thickness or stent alignment. Recirculation was identified on the posterior dorsal line during late systole.
