Simulation provides a safe environment for testing of devices and protocols before use on patients and should be vital in the preparation for emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teaching dermatology to medical students entails a series of lectures, pictures, and hands-on skin examinations to convey a sense of skin features and textures, often by use of simulated skin models. However, such methods can often lack accurate visual and tactile texture representation of skin lesions. To facilitate learning, we have developed a smartphone-based skin simulation model, which provides a configurable visual and tactile sense of a lesion by using the ubiquitous availability of smartphone-based mobile platforms.
A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) overlay was used as a configurable translucent elastomer material to model the stiffness and texture of skin. A novel custom smartphone-based app was developed to capture images of various skin lesions, which were subsequently displayed on a tablet or second smartphone, over which the PDMS model skin elastomer was placed. Using the local Bluetooth connection between mobile devices, an iterative feedback algorithm corrected the visual distortion caused by e by giving students the ability to see, touch, and feel pragmatic skin textures and lesions.
Delta triphalangeal thumbs (DTPT) and irregular epiphysis thumbs (IET) had different anatomic deformities. Our primary purpose was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of surgical treatment in DTPT and IET.
In total, 43 ulnar-deviated thumbs were included and categorized into 2 types according to x-ray and exploration during surgery, DTPT and IET. Surgical excision of the delta phalanx in DTPT and intraepiphysis osteotomy in IET was conducted.
In total, 23 ulnar-deviated thumbs were classified as DTPT and 20 as IET. Ten thumbs that could not be classified initially were followed-up until they could be categorized at the mean age of 24 months. The preoperative mean degrees of ulnar deviation at the interphalangeal joints were 40 and 33 degrees, in DTPT and IET, respectively. The antibacterial effect of antibiotics is linked to the free drug concentration. This study investigated the applicability of an ultrafiltration method to determine free plasma concentrations of beta-lactam antibiotics in ICU patients.
Eligible patients included adult ICU patients treated with ceftazidime (CAZ), meropenem (MEM), piperacillin (PIP)/tazobactam (TAZ), or flucloxacillin (FXN) by continuous infusion. Up to 2 arterial blood samples were drawn at steady state. Patients could be included more than once if they received another antibiotic. Free drug concentrations were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection after ultrafiltration, using a method that maintained physiological conditions (pH 7.4/37°C). Total drug concentrations were determined to calculate the unbound fraction. In a post-hoc analysis, free concentrations were compared with the target value of 4× the epidemiological cut-off value (ECOFF) for Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a worst-case scenario for nd beta-lactams such as FXN, free concentrations should be favored in ICU patients with prevalent hypoalbuminemia.

Emergency departments (EDs) varied in their preparedness to provide pediatric emergency care, with mortality rates being higher when EDs were unprepared. Guidelines are available to aid EDs in their preparedness. We aimed to determine the preparedness of EDs in our healthcare cluster using the guidelines from the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) as references for audit.
This was a cross-sectional study involving a pediatric ED and 3 general EDs within a healthcare cluster. A survey was completed by a pediatric representative at each ED who assessed his/her own ED's effort against each recommended standard with reference to calendar year of 2018. The availability of pediatric equipment, supplies, and medications was checked against the items recommended list by the IFEM.
The response rate was 100%. The proportion of agreement with reference standards was lower for general EDs (RCPCH 11.4%-70.0% and IFEM 39.6%-84.0%) than pediatric ED (RCPCH 85.7% and IFEM 91.7%). Unmet standards were predominantly in the categories of management of pediatric patients with complex medical needs, management of pediatric death, adolescents, mental health and substance misuse, protection and safeguarding of pediatric patients, as well as advanced training and research. The proportion of available equipment, supplies, and medications was also lower for general EDs (77.2%-82.0%) than pediatric ED (89.4%).

There are few reports of cervical myelopathy caused by an attack of subaxial calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) deposition. Moreover, there has been no report on cervical myelopathy by subaxial CPPD deposition with simultaneous asymptomatic crowned dens syndrome (CDS) at the same time.
The first case was a 68-year-old male complaining of cervical myelopathic symptoms. Plain radiographs, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings revealed spinal cord compression by calcified round lesions at C4 as well as a calcified lesion behind the dens. The second case was a 77-year-old female complaining of cervical myelopathic symptoms. Plain radiographs, CT and MRI findings revealed spinal cord compression by calcified round lesions at C3 and C4 as well as a calcified lesion behind the dens. In both cases, we believed that the calcified lesion behind the dens was an asymptomatic lesion. Therefore, the first patient received decompressive laminectomy of C3 and C4, removal of calcified round lesions, and posterior fixation from C3 to C5 due to associated kyphosis. The second patient underwent decompressive laminectomy of C3 and C4 and removal of calcified round lesions. Microscopic examination under polarized light showed dark blue calcifications with rhomboid crystals that were positively birefringent. The findings were consistent with those of CPPD.

This study explored the diagnostic power of preoperative circulating tumor cells (CTCs) for the presence of microvascular invasion (MVI) and the relationship between dynamic changes in postoperative CTCs and prognosis.
A total of 137 patients were recruited for the study. Preoperative blood samples were collected from all patients to detect CTCs. The time points for blood collection were before the operation, during the operation, and at 1week, 1month, 2months, 3months, 6months, and 1year after surgery. The predictive power of CTC count for the presence of MVI was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. According to recurrence status, 137 patients were divided into three groups no recurrence, early recurrence, and non-early recurrence groups.
A threshold CTC count of 5 showed the most significant power for predicting the existence of MVI. In multivariate analysis, the parameters of preoperative CTC count, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and tumor diameter were independent predictors arly recurrence.

Delivery methods are associated with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) both in nulliparous and multiparous women. However, few studies have examined the difference in this association between nulliparous and multiparous women. This study aimed to explore the difference of maternal and neonatal characteristics and delivery methods between Chinese nulliparous and multiparous women, and then examine the differential effects of different delivery methods on PPH between these two-type women.
Totally 151,333 medical records of women who gave birth between April 2013 to May 2016 were obtained from the electronic health records (EHR) in a northern province, China. The severity of PPH was estimated and classified into blood loss at the level of < 900 ml, 900-1500 ml, 1500-2100 ml, and > 2100 ml. Neonatal and maternal characteristics related to PPH were derived from the same database. Multiple ordinal logistic regression was used to estimate associations.

Spinal accessory nerve (SAN) palsy is rare in clinical settings. Iatrogenicity is the most common cause, with cervical lymph node biopsy accounting for > 50% of cases. However, SAN palsy after lymph node needle biopsy is extremely rare, and the injury site is difficult to identify because of the tiny needle mark.
A 26-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with left neck pain and difficulty abducting and shrugging her left shoulder after left cervical lymph node needle biopsy. Five weeks earlier, a needle biopsy had been performed at the surgery clinic because of suspected histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis. No trace of the needle biopsy site was found on the neck, but ultrasonography (US) showed SAN swelling within the posterior cervical triangle. At 3 months after the injury, her activities of daily living had not improved. Therefore, we decided to perform a surgical intervention after receiving informed consent. We performed neurolysis because the SAN was swollen in the area consistent with the US findings, and nerve continuity was preserved.

Continuous high insulin levels are associated with weight gain and lead to cardiometabolic diseases. Therefore, we have developed the Low-Insulin-Method and integrated it into the multi-component, occupational healthcare program SHAPE-AND-MOTION-Medical-Accompanied-Slimming (SAMMAS) to reduce daily insulin levels for long-term weight reduction in overweight or obesity. Employees were randomized into a starting intervention group (SI, n = 15) or waiting list control group (WL, n = 15). SAMMAS consisted of group-based seminars, low-carbohydrate nutrition including formula diet, continuous glucose monitoring, telemetric monitoring, and telemedical coaching. Both groups received telemetric devices at baseline. Intention-to-treat analyses were performed after 12, 26, and 52 weeks. The estimated treatment difference in weight reduction after 12 weeks, which is the primary endpoint of the study, showed a pronounced effect in favour of SI (-6.3 kg with (95% confidence interval) (-7.4; -4.5) (p less then 0.001)) after 12 weeks. Furthermore, SI improved fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, quality of life, fasting insulin, blood pressure, and eating behaviour (all p less then 0.05) in the within-group analysis, while WL did not. Among children and adults, those meeting dairy food recommendations were significantly more likely to have adequate intake (% above Estimated Average Requirement (EAR)) of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, riboflavin, vitamin A, vitamin B12, and zinc and consume above the Adequate Intake (AI) for potassium and choline than Americans not meeting dairy recommendations, regardless of age, sex, or race/ethnicity. Americans meeting dairy recommendations were also more likely to exceed recommendations for sodium and saturated fat but consume less added sugars. Nearly 60% of Americans 2 years and older not meeting dairy recommendations consumed calcium and magnesium below the EAR. Only about 20% of Americans who did not meet dairy recommendations consumed above the AI for potassium. Dairy foods make important and unique contributions to dietary patterns, and it can be difficult to meet nutrient needs without consuming recommended amounts of dairy foods.

Continuous high insulin levels are associated with weight gain and lead to cardiometabolic diseases. Therefore, we have developed the Low-Insulin-Method and integrated it into the multi-component, occupational healthcare program SHAPE-AND-MOTION-Medical-Accompanied-Slimming (SAMMAS) to reduce daily insulin levels for long-term weight reduction in overweight or obesity. Employees were randomized into a starting intervention group (SI, n = 15) or waiting list control group (WL, n = 15). SAMMAS consisted of group-based seminars, low-carbohydrate nutrition including formula diet, continuous glucose monitoring, telemetric monitoring, and telemedical coaching. Both groups received telemetric devices at baseline. Intention-to-treat analyses were performed after 12, 26, and 52 weeks. The estimated treatment difference in weight reduction after 12 weeks, which is the primary endpoint of the study, showed a pronounced effect in favour of SI (-6.3 kg with (95% confidence interval) (-7.4; -4.5) (p less then 0.001)) after 12 weeks. Furthermore, SI improved fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, quality of life, fasting insulin, blood pressure, and eating behaviour (all p less then 0.05) in the within-group analysis, while WL did not. After 26 and 52 weeks, weight reduction could be maintained in the whole group (both groups together) by -6.7 kg (-9.5; -3.8) (p less then 0.001) and -6.1 kg (-9.2; -2.7) (p less then 0.01). This study assesses differences in nutrient intake between Americans who meet recommendations for dairy intake and those who do not, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 (n = 5670 children ages 2-18 years and n = 10,112 adults ages 19+). Among children and adults, those meeting dairy food recommendations were significantly more likely to have adequate intake (% above Estimated Average Requirement (EAR)) of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, riboflavin, vitamin A, vitamin B12, and zinc and consume above the Adequate Intake (AI) for potassium and choline than Americans not meeting dairy recommendations, regardless of age, sex, or race/ethnicity. Americans meeting dairy recommendations were also more likely to exceed recommendations for sodium and saturated fat but consume less added sugars. Nearly 60% of Americans 2 years and older not meeting dairy recommendations consumed calcium and magnesium below the EAR. Only about 20% of Americans who did not meet dairy recommendations consumed above the AI for potassium. Dairy foods make important and unique contributions to dietary patterns, and it can be difficult to meet nutrient needs without consuming recommended amounts of dairy foods. Privacy-related concerns can prevent equitable participation in health research by US Indigenous communities. However, studies focused on these communities' views regarding health data privacy, including systematic reviews, are lacking.
We conducted a systematic literature review analyzing empirical, US-based studies involving American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (NHPI) perspectives on health data privacy, which we define as the practice of maintaining the security and confidentiality of an individual's personal health records and/or biological samples (including data derived from biological specimens, such as personal genetic information), as well as the secure and approved use of those data.
Twenty-one studies involving 3234 AI/AN and NHPI participants were eligible for review. The results of this review suggest that concerns about the privacy of health data are both prevalent and complex in AI/AN and NHPI communities. Many respondents raised concerns aboe collection and use of health data more trustworthy and transparent for participants.
Concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) and diabetes mellitus (DM) increases risk of stroke and systemic embolic events. This meta-analysis assessed the benefit/risk balance of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) vs warfarin, and explored whether there was effect modification by DM or heterogeneity in outcomes between NOACs in patients with and without DM.
We performed a meta-analysis of 58,634 patients from four phase 3 trials of NOAC vs warfarin in patients with AF, comparing the primary outcomes of efficacy and safety and 6 other secondary outcomes in patients stratified by the presence of DM. Interaction testing was used to assess for heterogeneity of treatment effects. A meta-regression was performed to evaluate the influence of baseline characteristics.
NOACs reduced the risk of stroke/SEE in 18,134 patients with DM [hazard ratio (HR) 0.80; 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.69-0.93), I2 3.90] to a similar degree as in 40,500 patients without DM [HR 0.82; 95% CI (0.74-0.91)], I2 16.33 p-int 0.81). There was no effect modification of DM on the relative reduction with NOACs vs warfarin in major bleeding (DM 0.95, 95% CI 0.75-1.20, I2 43.83; no DM 0.83, 95% CI 0.55-1.24; I2 87.90; p-int 0.37). Intracranial Haemorrhage (HRs 0.51 and 0.47, p-int 0.70) and cardiovascular death (HRs 0.87 and 0.90, p-int 0.70) were significantly reduced by NOACs in the presence or absence of DM.

To assess the cost-effectiveness of PCSK9 inhibition with evolocumab added to standard-of-care lipid-lowering treatment (maximum tolerated dose [MTD] of statin and ezetimibe) in Swedish patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI).
Cost-effectiveness was evaluated using a Markov model based on Swedish observational data on cardiovascular event rates and efficacy from the FOURIER trial. Three risk profiles were considered recent MI in the previous year; history of MI with a risk factor; and history of MI with a second event within 2 years. For each population, three minimum baseline low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were considered 2.5 mmol/L (≈100 mg/dL), based on the current reimbursement recommendation in Sweden); 1.8 mmol/L (≈70 mg/dL), based on 2016 ESC/EAS guidelines; and 1.4 mmol/L (≈55 mg/dL), or 1.0 mmol/L (≈40 mg/dL) for MI with a second event, based on 2019 ESC/EAS guidelines. PCSK9 inhibition with evolocumab was associated with increased quality-adjusted life-years and costs versus standard-of-care therapy. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were below SEK700,000 (∼€66,500), the generally accepted willingness-to-pay threshold in Sweden, for minimum LDL-C levels of 2.3 (recent MI), 1.7 (MI with a risk factor) and 1.7 mmol/L (MI with a second event). Sensitivity analyses demonstrated that base-case results were robust to changes in model parameters.

At molecular level, N-Shh prevents FL-Dhh binding to Patched-1 demonstrating that N-Shh acts as competitive antagonist to FL-Dhh. Besides, we found that even though FL-Hh ligands and N-Hh ligands all bind Patched-1, they induce distinct Patched-1 localization. Aim To explore the effect that the location of needle placement has on efficacy and tolerability of bone marrow aspirate concentrate injections during treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods Bone marrow aspirate concentrate injections were administered to 111 patients via superolateral, anteromedial or anterolateral portals. Pain was assessed by visual analog scale before and 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after intervention. Knee function was assessed by Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score and International Knee Documentation Committee scores before and 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after intervention. Results Significant differences in Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score and International Knee Documentation Committee scores were observed 12 months post intervention compared with baseline (p less then 0.001 for all comparisons). While infection of immune incompetent rats (neonatal) using the type species of mammalian bornaviruses, the Borna disease virus 1, proceed to an immune tolerant status, VSBV-1 infection could result in inflammation of neuronal tissue. Aim To explore the effect that the location of needle placement has on efficacy and tolerability of bone marrow aspirate concentrate injections during treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods Bone marrow aspirate concentrate injections were administered to 111 patients via superolateral, anteromedial or anterolateral portals. Pain was assessed by visual analog scale before and 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after intervention. Knee function was assessed by Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score and International Knee Documentation Committee scores before and 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after intervention. Results Significant differences in Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score and International Knee Documentation Committee scores were observed 12 months post intervention compared with baseline (p less then 0.001 for all comparisons). No significant differences in outcome or pain scores were observed among groups. Conclusion All portals demonstrated similar clinical benefits up to 12 months after intervention. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a current and innovative technique that can be applied in different areas, such as medical, biotechnological, veterinary, among others, both for the treatment of different pathologies, as well as for diagnosis. It is based on the action of light to activate photosensitizers that will perform their activity on target tissues, presenting high sensitivity and less adverse effects. Therefore, knowing that biotechnology aims to use processes to develop products aimed at improving the quality of life of human and the environment, and optimizing therapeutic actions, researchers have been used PDT as a tool of choice. This review aims to identify the impacts and perspectives and challenges of PDT in different areas of biotechnology, such as health and agriculture and oncology. Our search demonstrated that PDT has an important impact around oncology, minimizing the adverse effects and resistance to chemotherapeutic to the current treatments available for cancer. Veterinary medicine is another area with continuous interest in this therapy, since studies have shown promising results for the treatment of different animal pathologies such as Bovine mastitis, Malassezia, cutaneous hemangiosarcoma, among others. In agriculture, PDT has been used, for example, to remove traces of antibiotics of milk. The challenges, in general, of PDT in the field of biotechnology are mainly the development of effective and non-toxic or less toxic photosensitizers for humans, animals and plants. We believe that there is a current and future potential for PDT in different fields of biotechnology due to the existing demand.Relative keratinocyte skin cancer risks attributable to lifetime occupational and casual sunlight exposures of working school teachers are assessed across the state of Queensland for 1578 schools. Relative risk modeling utilizing annual ultraviolet exposure assessments of teachers working in different geographic locations and exposed during periods of measured daily playground duty times for each school were made for local administrative education districts by considering traditional school opening and closing hours, and playground lunchtime schedules. State-wide, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) relative risk estimates varied by 24% for ****and 45% for SCC. The highest relative risk was calculated for the state's north (sunshine) coast education district which showed that risk could increase by as **** as 32% for ****and 64% for SCC due to differences in teacher duty schedules. These results highlight the importance of playground duty scheduling as a significant risk factor contributing to the overall burden of preventable keratinocyte skin cancers in Queensland.
Secondary breast metastasis from the colonic origin is a rare phenomenon in the literature, and an estimation of an increase in the incidence has been reported in the literature to reach approximately 7%.
We report a case of a 56-year-old male with constipation who underwent extended right hemicolectomy after confirmation of adenocarcinoma of the right colon. The patient was diagnosed with multiple metastases over 5 years and endured numerous resections of the costal margins, ribs, diaphragm, liver wedges, abdominal wall, and the small bowel. Eventually, the patient's right breast mass measured about 2.1 cm on ultrasonography and revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma of the same colonic origin. The patient started on palliative chemotherapy and was deceased after 11 months.
Comparing this case to the 56 similar cases, we found our case with an almost average time to metastasize but unfortunately with aggressive metastatic behavior to various organs. Nevertheless, the triple assessment of the breast by physical examination, radiological, and pathological studies assisted in diagnosis and early establishment of the treatment. Currently, there is no definitive guideline for the management of secondary breast metastasis from the colonic origin. We estimated the average survival rate as 6.1 months, and it was reported to reach an average of 8-10 months in the literature.

Diverting ostomies are traditionally used as a bridge to primary resection in patients with an obstructing mass, or severe inflammatory bowel disease [1]. In some cases, severe infections or non-healing wounds can be better managed after the diversion of fecal material away from the area [2]. In this case report, we discuss a patient who underwent a diverting loop colostomy placement through a ventral hernia defect with primary repair of the hernia in one procedure.
A 67-year-old female presented with a large, stage four sacral decubitus ulcer and an incarcerated ventral hernia. She was taken to the operating room for a transverse loop diverting colostomy through a large, pre-existing ventral hernia. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Rapamycin.html The ostomy site was passed through the ventral defect at the midline. The remainder of the ventral hernia was closed primarily, and the initial incision was stapled closed. The large ventral hernia presented a significant obstacle during pre-operative planning. It was decided that a midline stoma was to be created simultaneously with an abdominal wall reconstruction, as any other site to bring up the ostomy would have been too far laterally.
The patient was discharged in stable condition. This case presents a novel and viable method for the creation of an ostomy in patients with large ventral hernias. Further study regarding long-term outcomes may be beneficial in establishing utility.

3D food printing is an emerging food technology innovation that enables the personalization and on-demand production of edible products. While its academic and industrial relevance has increased over the past decade, the functional value of the technology remains largely unrealized on a commercial scale. This study aimed at updating the business outlook of 3D food printing so as to help entrepreneurs and researchers in the field to channel their research and development (R&D) activities. A three-phase mixed methods approach was utilized to gain perspectives of industrial experts, researchers, and potential consumers. Data were collected from two sets of interviews with experts, a survey with experts, and consumer focus group discussions. The results gave insights into key attributes and use cases for a 3D food printer system, including the techno-economic feasibility and consumer desirability of identified use cases. A business modelling workshop was then organized to translate these results into three refined value propositions for 3D food printing. Both the experts and consumers found personalized nutrition and convenience to be the most desirable aspects of 3D food printing. Accordingly, business models related to 3D printed snacks/meals in semi-public spaces such as fitness centers and hospitals were found to offer the highest business potential. While the technology might be mature enough at component level, the successful realization of such high-reward models however would require risk-taking during the developmental phase.Although physical exercise has unquestionable benefits on bone health, its effects on bone healing have been poorly investigated. This study evaluated the effects of preemptive moderate continuous running on the healing of non-critical sized bone defects in rats by µCT. We hypothesized that a preemptive running exercise would quicken bone healing. Twenty 5-week-old, male, Wistar rats were randomly allocated to one of the following groups (n = 10) sedentary control (SED) or continuous running (EX, 45 min/d, 5 d/week at moderate speed, for 8 consecutive weeks). A 2 mm diameter bone defect was then performed in the right tibia and femur. No exercise was performed during a 4 week-convalescence. Healing-tissue trabecular microarchitectural parameters were assessed once a week for 4 weeks using µCT and plasma bone turnover markers measured at the end of the study protocol (time point T12). At T12, bone volume fraction (BV/TV; BV bone volume, TV tissue volume) of the healing tissue in tibiae and femurs from EX rats was higher compared to that in SED rats (p = 0.001). BV/TV in EX rats was also higher in tibiae than in femurs (p less then 0.01). The bone mineral density of the healing tissue in femurs from EX rats was higher compared to that in femurs from SED rats (p less then 0.03). N-terminal telopeptide of collagen type I in EX rats was decreased compared to SED rats (p less then 0.05), while no differences were observed for alkaline phosphatase and parathyroid hormone. Tear cytokine/chemokine profile showed a pronounced increase in vascular endothelial cell growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and a trend towards decreased concentration of Interferon gamma (IFN)-γ in rapamycin-treated groups. Here, we compared the effects of daily instillation of eyedrops containing rapamycin or empty micelles for three months on the aged mice. Tear cytokine/chemokine profile showed a pronounced increase in vascular endothelial cell growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and a trend towards decreased concentration of Interferon gamma (IFN)-γ in rapamycin-treated groups. A significant decrease in inflammatory markers in the lacrimal gland was also evident (IFN-γ, IL-12, CIITA and Ctss); this was accompanied by slightly diminished Unc-51 Like Autophagy Activating Kinase 1 (ULK1) transcripts. Here, we show that IpaC, a Shigella flexneri type 3 secretion system protein, binds the host cell-adhesion protein β-catenin and facilitates efficient protrusion formation. S. flexneri producing a point mutant of IpaC that cannot interact with β-catenin is defective in protrusion formation and spread. Spread is restored by chemical reduction of intercellular tension or genetic depletion of β-catenin, and the magnitude of the protrusion defect correlates with membrane tension, indicating that IpaC reduces membrane tension, which facilitates protrusion formation. A few models have addressed this problem, but performance is still not satisfactory because of high dimensional features and the use of traditional machine learning algorithms. Thus, there is a need to create a novel model to improve the predictive performance of this problem from DNA sequence features. This study took advantage of a natural language processing (NLP) model in learning biological sequences by treating them as natural language words. To learn the NLP features, a supervised learning model was consequentially employed by an ensemble deep neural network. Our proposed method could identify essential genes with sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values of 60.2%, 84.6%, 76.3%, 0.449, and 0.814, respectively. The overall performance outperformed the single models without ensemble, as well as the state-of-the-art predictors on the same benchmark dataset. This indicated the effectiveness of the proposed method in determining essential genes, in particular, and other sequencing problems, in general.Breast cancer (**) is the most common tumour in women. All sequenced plastomes have 131 annotated genes, including 86 protein-coding, eight rRNA, and 37 tRNA genes. These five newly sequenced Bougainvillea cp genomes were compared to the Bougainvillea spectabilis cp genome deposited in GeBank. The results showed that all cp genomes based on SNPs and indels analysis. Phylogenetic reconstructions further showed that these two species appear to be the basal taxa of Bougainvillea. The rarely cultivated and wild species of Bougainvillea (B.pachyphylla, B. peruviana, B. praecox) diverged earlier than the commonly cultivated species and cultivar (B. spectabilis, B. glabra, B. cv.). One may conclude that in the long-term, the increased likelihood of preventive medical check-ups in post-materialistic women will be beneficial in decreasing the need for doctor visits for reasons of chronic illnesses. The reasons for seeing a doctor served as an additional outcome measure (acute illness; chronic illness; feeling unwell; requesting advice; visit to the doctor's office without consulting the doctor (e.g., need to get a prescription); preventive medical check-up/vaccination). (3) After adjusting for several covariates, negative binomial regressions revealed that compared with materialism, post-materialism was associated with decreased doctor visits (total sample; women). Moreover, the likelihood of visiting the doctor for reasons of chronic illnesses was lower in post-materialistic women, whereas the likelihood of visiting the doctor for reasons of preventive medical check-up/vaccination was higher in post-materialistic women. (4) Study findings identify an unexplored link between post-materialism and doctor visits in women. One may conclude that in the long-term, the increased likelihood of preventive medical check-ups in post-materialistic women will be beneficial in decreasing the need for doctor visits for reasons of chronic illnesses.
