We herein report the first case of tocilizumab-induced lupus syndrome presenting with cardiac tamponade. A 65-year-old man presented with cough, exertional dyspnea, and chest pain after 2 months of tocilizumab therapy for rheumatoid arthritis. Echocardiography revealed marked pericardial effusion. Antinuclear antibodies and anti-double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid antibodies were positive. The diagnosis of cardiac tamponade due to tocilizumab-induced lupus syndrome was made. He had no recurrence of pericardial effusion after tocilizumab discontinuation. Clinicians should be alert for lupus syndrome in patients receiving tocilizumab.High-output heart failure caused by a tumor-related arteriovenous fistula in adults is a rare clinical condition. However, conventional treatment with fibrates is frequently associated with adverse drug reactions, especially in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and even with a reduction in TG. Pemafibrate is a novel selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α modulator (SPPARMα) with fewer side effects and greater effectiveness that can overcome these challenges. We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of pemafibrate in patients with CKD and herein present a real-world profile of pemafibrate. Methods Between January 2019 and January 2020, 126 consecutive patients with hyperglyceridemia from two institutions (54 patients with CKD; 43%) who received pemafibrate were enrolled in this retrospective observational study. Blood samples were collected before (baseline) and at 24 weeks after commencing pemafibrate therapy. The primary endpoint was a decrease in the serum lipid levels. The secondary endpoints were the incidence of rhabdomyolysis, hepatargy, and an exacerbation of CKD. Results All patients, including 51% of patients who were concurrently taking statins, reported significantly reduced total cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (non-HDL-C), LDL-C, and TG, and increased HDL-C (p less then 0.05). The subgroup of patients with CKD showed similar results without increased HDL-C. No adverse events were observed in any patients. Conclusion Pemafibrate has a good safety profile and efficacy for treating patients with serum lipid abnormalities, including those with CKD.Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare aggressive B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder that is strongly associated with immunodeficiency, most often with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, and that mainly occurs in the oral cavity. The small intestine as a site of PBL has also been described very rarely. We herein present a rare case of PBL of the small intestine in an 85-year-old HIV- and EBV-negative male.The slow loris monkey is one of the few venomous mammals. Its venom repels predators and can cause anaphylactic shock and even death in humans. The venom protein has been evaluated and has high sequence similarity to cat allergen; however, no studies involving subjects with cat allergy and who have been exposed to slow loris venom have been reported. We herein report the first case of severe anaphylactic shock following a slow loris bite in a patient with cat allergy.

  • The lipid raft hypothesis emerged as a need to explain the lateral organization and behavior of lipids in the environment of biological membranes. The idea, that lipids segregate in biological membranes to form liquid-disordered and liquid-ordered states, was faced with a challenge to show that lipid-ordered domains, enriched in sphingomyelin and cholesterol, actually exist in vivo. A great deal of indirect evidence and the use of lipid-binding probes supported this idea, but there was a lack of tools to demonstrate the existence of such domains in living cells. https://www.selleckchem.com/peptide/adh-1.html A whole new toolbox had to be invented to biochemically characterize lipid rafts and to define how they are involved in several cellular functions. A potential solution came from basic biochemical experiments in the late 1970s, showing that some mushroom extracts exert hemolytic activities. Recently, six sphingomyelin/cholesterol binding proteins from different mushrooms have been identified and have provided some insight into the nature of sphingomyelin/cholesterol-rich domains in living vertebrate cells. In this review, we dissect the accumulated knowledge and introduce the mushroom lipid raft binding proteins as molecules of choice to study the dynamics and origins of these liquid-ordered domains in mammalian cells.In autumn calving dairy herds, treatment of cattle not observed in estrus prior to the breeding season is common. Routinely, a single prostaglandin or a modified Ovsynch (MOFT) protocol are used-without evidence of their relative effectiveness. This study compares the effects on conception, associated timing, and profitability of administering cows with prostaglandin or MOFT treatment. A hundred and ninety-two Holstein-Friesian cows from three herds without an observed estrus within 28-days before mating start date were randomly treated with d-cloprostenol (PGOD) or an 8-day MOFT protocol. The association of treatment and calving-breeding start-date interval (CBSI) on the risk of conception were investigated. Partial budget, sensitivity analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation was used to assess economic performance, identify critical input variables, and explore the effects of input uncertainties on model output. There was a significant association between MOFT treatment and conception during 21 and 84 days after mating start date, compared to PGOD. MOFT treatment was associated with a mean net benefit of £58.21 (sd £19.42) and £27.29 (sd £17.75) per *** for herds with a fixed or variable dry-off date, respectively. The relative profitability of an MOFT protocol is dependent on its effects on barren rate and herd dry-off strategy.Reduced physiological capability of the human gastrointestinal tract with increasing age has recently attracted considerable attention to the potential of novel technologies to modify food digestion. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate gastric digestion of milk proteins after application of high-pressure processing (HPP) at 400 MPa 15 min, 600 MPa 5 min and 600 MPa 15 min using two static in vitro models of adults (INFOGEST) and the elderly in comparison to a fresh untreated raw milk. Peptides distribution classified based on the number of amino acids (AA) (30 AA) were investigated after 0, 5, 10 and 30 min of digestion using LC-MS and multivariate data analysis. Our results show significantly less efficient protein digestion of all investigated milks in the elderly model indicated by higher percentages of longer peptides during digestion, except for the HPP milk 400 MPa 15 min, which indicated an improved and comparable digestion in the elderly as in the adult model. Furthermore, increasing the pressurization time at 600 MPa did not have a significant effect on the peptides profile during the digestion. More efficient digestion of whey proteins in HPP milks, with the majority of peptides in the 16-20 AA range, compared to fresh milk was also noticed. According to the findings of this study, HPP at 400 MPa 15 min showed the most efficient digestion of major milk proteins and thus may be considered a suitable process to improve bioaccessibility of milk proteins, especially in products intended for the elderly.Adulteration in dairy products has received world-wide attention, and at the same time, near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has proven to be a promising tool for adulteration detection given its advantages of real-time response and non-destructive analysis. In this paper, the ensemble learning method based on CNN estimators was developed to address the overfitting and random initialization problems of CNN and applied to the determination of two infant formula adulterants, namely hydrolyzed leather protein (HLP) and melamine. Moreover, a probabilistic wavelength selection method based on the attention mechanism was proposed for the purpose of finding the best trade-off between the accuracy and the diversity of the sub-models in ensemble learning. The overall results demonstrate that the proposed method yielded superiority regression performance over the comparison methods for both studied data sets, and determination coefficients (R2) of 0.961 and 0.995 were obtained for the HLP and the melamine data sets, respectively.Wilm's tumor 1 (WT1), a zinc-finger transcription factor and an epigenetic modifier, is frequently overexpressed in several hematologic disorders and solid tumors, and it has been proposed as diagnostic and prognostic marker of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). However, the exact role of WT1 in leukemogenesis and disease progression remains unclear. In this real-world evidence retrospective study, we investigated prognostic role of WT1-mRNA expression levels in AML and MDS patients and correlations with complete blood counts, flow cytometry counts, and molecular features. A total of 71 patients (AML, n = 46; and MDS, n = 25) were included in this study, and WT1 levels were assessed at diagnosis, during treatment and follow-up. We showed that WT1 expression levels were inversely correlated with normal hemopoiesis in both AML and MDS, and positively associated with blast counts. Flow cytometry was more sensitive and specific in distinguishing normal myeloid cells from neoplastic counterpart even just using linear parameters and CD45 expression.

This emphasizes the importance of non-exhaust particles connected to road traffic. Once a source identification has been performed for an area of interest, classification models can be applied to assess air quality for further samples from within the whole study area, offering a tool for air quality assessment. The general validity of this approach is demonstrated using samples from other locations.Six ecotypes of Typha domingensis Pers. Jahlar (E1), Sheikhupura (E2), Sahianwala (E3), Gatwala (E4), Treemu (E5) and Knotti (E6) from different ecological regions were collected to evaluate the leaf anatomical and biochemical attributes under different levels of salinity and nickel stress viz; L0 (control), L1 (100 mM + 50 mg kg-1), L2 (200 mM + 100 mg kg-1) and L3 (300 mM + 150 mg kg-1). Presence of salt and Ni in rooting medium consistently affected growth, anatomical and physio-biochemical attributes in all Typha ecotypes. Discrete anatomical modifications among ecotypes such as reduced leaf thickness, increased parenchyma area, metaxylem cell area, aerenchyma formation and improved metaxylem vessels were recorded with increasing dose of salt and Ni. The minimum anatomical damages were recorded in E1 and E6 ecotypes. In all ecotypes, progressive perturbations in ionic homeostasis (Na+, K+, Cl-, N) due to salt and metal toxicity were evident along with reduction in photosynthetic pigments. Competitive adsorption from a mixed metals solution revealed that the cellulose-chitosan composite hydrogel exhibited selective adsorption of the metals in the order of Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Co2+. The objective of this study was to use alachlor, a chloroacetanilide herbicide responsible for chronic toxicity, to understand its impact in target and non-target organisms and at different levels of biological organization by using several model organisms, including membranes of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), rat liver mitochondria, bacterial (Bacillus stearothermophilus), plant (Lemna gibba) and mammalian cell lines (HeLa and neuro2a). Our results demonstrated that alachlor strongly interacted with membranes of DPPC and interfered with mitochondrial bioenergetics by reducing the respiratory control ratio and the transmembrane potential.
    Quantitative source contributions reveal that high amounts of most of the metals are derived from a combination of brake wear and geogenic particles, the latter of which are likely resuspended by moving vehicles. This emphasizes the importance of non-exhaust particles connected to road traffic. Once a source identification has been performed for an area of interest, classification models can be applied to assess air quality for further samples from within the whole study area, offering a tool for air quality assessment. The general validity of this approach is demonstrated using samples from other locations.Six ecotypes of Typha domingensis Pers. Jahlar (E1), Sheikhupura (E2), Sahianwala (E3), Gatwala (E4), Treemu (E5) and Knotti (E6) from different ecological regions were collected to evaluate the leaf anatomical and biochemical attributes under different levels of salinity and nickel stress viz; L0 (control), L1 (100 mM + 50 mg kg-1), L2 (200 mM + 100 mg kg-1) and L3 (300 mM + 150 mg kg-1). Presence of salt and Ni in rooting medium consistently affected growth, anatomical and physio-biochemical attributes in all Typha ecotypes. Specifically, functional magnetic resonance imaging data collected during naturalistic story listening are compared with theory-neutral measures of online comprehension difficulty and incremental processing load (reading times and eye-fixation durations). Critically, to ensure that variance in these measures is driven by features of the linguistic stimulus rather than reflecting participant- or trial-level variability, the neuroimaging and behavioral datasets were collected in nonoverlapping samples. We find no behavioral-neural link in functionally localized MD regions; instead, this link is found in the domain-specific, fronto-temporal "core language network," in both left-hemispheric areas and their right hemispheric homotopic areas. These results argue against strong involvement of domain-general executive circuits in language comprehension.
    The ATTR-ACT trial showed that tafamidis reduced all-cause mortality and cardiovascular-related hospitalizations in patients with transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). This study aimed to estimate the impact of tafamidis on survival and quality-adjusted life-years (QALY).

    A multi-state, cohort, Markov model was developed to simulate the disease course of ATTR-CM throughout a lifetime. For survival extrapolation, survival curves were fitted by treatment arm and New York Heart Association (NYHA) class I/II (68% of patients) and NYHA class III (32% of patients) cohorts using the individual patient-level data from both the ATTR-ACT and the corresponding long-term extension study. Univariate and multivariate sensitivity analyses were conducted.

    The predicted mean survival for the total population (NYHA class I/II+III) was 6.73 years for tafamidis and 2.85 years for the standard of care (SoC), resulting in an incremental mean survival of 3.88 years (95% CI 1.32-5.66). Of the 6.73 life-years, patients on tafamidis spend, on average, 4.82 years in NYHA class I/II, while patients on standard of care (SoC) spend an average of 1.60 life-years in these classes. The combination of longer survival in lower NYHA classes produced a QALY gain of 5.39 for tafamidis and 2.11 for SoC, resulting in 3.29 incremental QALYs (95% CI 1.21-4.74) in favor of tafamidis.

Most children with acute COVID-19 have mild disease, but coagulopathy has been associated with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a post-infectious complication. We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study to determine the incidence of thrombosis in children hospitalized with COVID-19 or MIS-C and to evaluate associated risk factors. We classified patients into one of three groups for analysis COVID-19, MIS-C, or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2. Among a total of 853 admissions (426 COVID-19, 138 MIS-C, and 289 asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2) in 814 patients, there were 20 patients with thrombotic events (TE) (including 1 stroke). Patients with MIS-C had the highest incidence (6.5%, 9/138) versus COVID-19 (2.1%, 9/426) or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 (0.7%, 2/289). In patients with COVID-19 or MIS-C, the majority of thrombotic events (89%) occurred in patients ≥12 years. Patients > 12 years with MIS-C had the highest rate of thrombosis at 19% (9/48). Notably, 71% of TE that were not present on admission occurred despite thromboprophylaxis. Multivariable analysis identified the following as significantly associated with thrombosis age ≥12 years, cancer, presence of a central venous catheter, and MIS-C.   • We found that FGF-2 treatment effectively reduced the number of TUNEL-positive cells, decreased the brain water content, and improved the neurological function of rats after SAH. Additionally, the expression levels of autophagy-related proteins (LC3 and Beclin-1) were obviously decreased in the FGF-2 treatment group compared with the SAH + vehicle group. The therapeutic effects of FGF-2 in the SAH + FGF-2+rapamycin group were weakened compared with that in the SAH + FGF-2+DMSO group. In the event of the PI3K/Akt pathway inhibition, the expression levels of LC3 and Beclin-1 were enhanced, and the therapeutic effects of FGF-2 were compromised. In summary, our data collectively demonstrated that FGF-2 may suppress autophagy levels to play a neuroprotective role, at least partially by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway. These results highlight FGF-2 as a promising solution to the clinical intervention of SAH.
    To assess the reporting quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with multicenter design, particularly whether necessary information related to multicenter characteristics was adequately reported.

    Through a search of 4 international electronic databases, we identified multicenter RCTs published in English from 1975 to 2019. Reporting quality was assessed by the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) checklist (37 items) and by a self-designed multicenter-specific checklist (27 items covering multicenter design, implement and analysis). The scores of trials published in three time periods (1975-1995; 1996-2009; and 2010-2019) were also compared.

    A total of 2,844 multicenter RCTs were included. For the CONSORT checklist, the mean (standard deviation) reporting score was 24.1 (5.5), 12 items were assessed as excellent (>90%), 12 items as good (50%-90%), and 13 items as poor (<50%). For the multicenter checklist, the reporting score was 3.9 (2.2), only 3 items were excellent or good, and the remaining 24 items were poor. Time period comparison showed that reporting quality improved over time, especially after the CONSORT 2010 issued.

    We compared the theoretical anatomic feasibility of endovascular treatment of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) with three off-the-shelf multibranched stent-grafts t-Branch (Zenith t-Branch; Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind), Gore Excluder thoracoabdominal branch endoprosthesis (TAMBE; W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, Ariz), and E-nside (E-nside multibranch stent graft system; Jotec GmbH, Hechingen, Germany).

    Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency (IVSR) is among the most competitive specialties, but little is known about the applicant perspective. The COVID-19 outbreak impacted the 2021 IVSR match due to travel restrictions. We sought to better understand pre-pandemic applicant recruitment strategies, logistics of away rotations, and the residency interview process to identify areas for improvement in the application process.

    An anonymous survey was sent to matched students in 2020, inquiring about motivations for pursuing VS, logistic of away rotations and interviews, and factors influencing students' rank lists.

    We found that FGF-2 treatment effectively reduced the number of TUNEL-positive cells, decreased the brain water content, and improved the neurological function of rats after SAH. Additionally, the expression levels of autophagy-related proteins (LC3 and Beclin-1) were obviously decreased in the FGF-2 treatment group compared with the SAH + vehicle group. Through a search of 4 international electronic databases, we identified multicenter RCTs published in English from 1975 to 2019. Reporting quality was assessed by the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) checklist (37 items) and by a self-designed multicenter-specific checklist (27 items covering multicenter design, implement and analysis). The scores of trials published in three time periods (1975-1995; 1996-2009; and 2010-2019) were also compared. A total of 2,844 multicenter RCTs were included. For the CONSORT checklist, the mean (standard deviation) reporting score was 24.1 (5.5), 12 items were assessed as excellent (>90%), 12 items as good (50%-90%), and 13 items as poor (<50%). For the multicenter checklist, the reporting score was 3.9 (2.2), only 3 items were excellent or good, and the remaining 24 items were poor. Time period comparison showed that reporting quality improved over time, especially after the CONSORT 2010 issued. The COVID-19 outbreak impacted the 2021 IVSR match due to travel restrictions. We sought to better understand pre-pandemic applicant recruitment strategies, logistics of away rotations, and the residency interview process to identify areas for improvement in the application process.   • The efficiency of heavy metal in biofilm reactors depends on absorption process parameters, and those relationships are complicated. This study explores artificial neural networks (ANNs) feasibility to correlate the biofilm reactor process parameters with absorption efficiency. The heavy metal removal and turbidity were modeled as a function of five process parameters, namely pH, temperature(°C), feed flux(ml/min), substrate flow(ml/min), and hydraulic retention time(h). We developed a standalone ANN software for predicting and analyzing the absorption process in handling industrial wastewater. The model was tested extensively to confirm that the predictions are reasonable in the context of the absorption kinetics principles. The model predictions showed that the temperature and pH values are the most influential parameters affecting absorption efficiency and turbidity.

    Using 631 mother-child pairs from a prospective birth cohort (The Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study), we measured maternal blood concentration (gestation week ~18) of five toxic metals and seven essential elements. We investigated associations as individual exposures and two-way interactions, using elastic net regression, and total mixture, using quantile g-computation, with blood levels of 5-methylcytocine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in mothers during pregnancy and their newborn children (cord blood). Multiple testing was adjusted for using the Benjamini and Hochberg fals as important candidates to investigate in future studies.
    We identified few associations between gestational levels of several toxic metals and essential elements and global DNA methylation in pregnant mothers and their newborn children. As inequality in the United States increases, understanding urban-rural and regional differences in the temperature-mortality association is crucial.

Our population models substantially reproduced the past sharp population declines of the dragonfly in three regions. Numerical simulations using hypothetical parameters did not always suggest that the use of systemic insecticides is a sufficient cause of the sharp population declines, as the declines did not occur if the farmland consolidation rate remained at lower levels (before the 1980s).

  • In 2014, the Affordable Care Act gave states the option to expand Medicaid coverage to nonelderly adults (18-64 years) with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level. The association of Medicaid expansion with suicide, a leading cause of death in the U.S., has not been examined. We used 2005-2017 National Violent Death Reporting System data for eight Medicaid expansion and seven non-expansion states. We examined the association of Medicaid expansion with rates of suicide death among nonelderly adults per 100,000 population using a difference-in-differences approach. Adjusting for state-level confounders, Medicaid expansion states had 1.2 (95% CI -2.5, 0.1) fewer suicide deaths per 100,000 population per year in the post-expansion period than would have been expected if they had followed the same trend in suicide rates as non-expansion states. Medicaid expansion was associated with reductions in suicide rates among women, men, those 30-44 years, white, non-Hispanic individuals, and those without a college degree. Medicaid expansion was not associated with a change in suicide rates among those 18-29 or 45-64 years, and non-white or Hispanic individuals. Overall, Medicaid expansion was associated with reductions in rates of suicide death among nonelderly adults. Focusing on three key network metrics-network differentiation, modularity, and community number differences between active regulation and a passive emotional baseline-we found that the control network, the default mode network, and limbic network were each related to emotion regulation ability while controlling for age. Greater network differentiation in the control and limbic networks was related to better emotion regulation ability. With regards to network community structure (modularity and community number), more communities and more crosstalk between modules (i.e., less modularity) in the control network were associated with better regulatory ability. By contrast, less crosstalk (i.e., greater modularity) between modules in the default mode network was associated with better regulatory ability. Together, these findings highlight whole-brain connectome features that support the acquisition of emotion regulation in youth.Recent case studies have highlighted that certain immunocompromised individuals are at risk for prolonged SARS-CoV-2 replication, intra-host viral evolution of multiply-mutated variants, and poor clinical outcomes. Several studies found a significant association of frailty with COVID-19 severity to support the evidence for the application of frailty assessment.     Tai Chi exercise has been reported to enhance physical and mental health in the older adults; however, the mechanism remains elusive.

    We recruited 289 older adults practicing Tai Chi for over 3 years, together with 277 age-matched older and 102 young adults as controls. 168 Tai Chi practitioners were successfully matched to 168 older controls aged 60-69 based on a propensity score for statistics.

    Cerebrovascular function was evaluated by measuring the hemodynamics of the carotid artery. Spearman correlation was performed to validate the age-associated physiological parameters.

    Cerebrovascular function in older adults significantly degenerated compared with the young, and was substantially correlated with age. Compared with the older control group, Tai Chi practitioners showed significant improvements in CVHI (cerebral vascular hemodynamics indices) Score (P = 0.002), mean blood flow velocity (P = 0.014), maximal blood flow velocity (P = 0.04) and minimum blood flow velocity (P < 0.001), whereas the age-related increases in pulse wave velocity (P = 0.022), characteristic impedance (P = 0.021) and peripheral resistance (P = 0.044) were lowered.

    These data demonstrate a rejuvenation role of Tai Chi in improving the age-related decline of the cerebrovascular function.

    Obesity or overweight in children is an excessive accumulation of adipose tissue that can potentially regress health indicators and increase the likelihood of various diseases.

    This model was implemented to improve the nutritional status and lifestyle behavior of children aged 6-12 years with overweight/obesity.

    A quasi-experimental design with 90 participants in each control and intervention group with a multistage cluster random sampling method after reviewing the literature, and their screening by experts were adopted.

    After 6 months there were significant differences in Body Mass Index and weight for age percentile values of children allocated in control and intervention groups after controlling for beginning values (p = 0.024, Partial eta2 = 0.028, 0.044, Partial eta2 = 0.023), respectively. Although there was an increased rate in BMI and weight for age percentile in both groups this increase in the control group after the 6th month significantly was more than that in the intervention group after the 6th months. A considerable difference in BMI of girls after the intervention was observed in the experimental group (p = 0.006, Partial eta2 = 0.092). However, our results showed that there was no significant difference in BMI of boys in the intervention and control groups before and 6 months after the intervention (p = 0.507).

    We conclude that though the weight increase rate was lower in the experimental group, the implemented model alone was not enough.

    Problem gaming is reported by approximately 1-3% of the population and is associated with decreased health and wellbeing. Research on optimal health responses to problem gaming remains limited. This study aimed to identify and describe the key components of a person-centred approach to interventions for problem gaming for individuals who voluntary seek assistance.

    Online interviews were conducted with 20 adults (90% male; M
     = 23y) currently seeking help for problem gaming. The interview protocol was guided by a health care access framework which investigated participants' experiences and needs related to accessing professional support. Transcripts were analysed in NVivo using qualitative content analysis to systematically classify participant data into the themes informed by this framework.

    Participants had mixed views on how the negative consequences of problem gaming could be best addressed. Some indicated problems could be addressed through self-help resources whereas others suggestedin-person trea health care approach for interventions for problem gaming is in its infancy, with numerous service access and delivery issues still to be resolved. This study highlights the importance of involving individuals with gaming-related problems in developing solutions that are fit for purpose and address the spectrum of individual preferences and needs. These findings recommend a stepped healthcare system that adheres to evidence-based practice tailored to each individual and the implementation of standard assessment and routine outcome monitoring.
    The aim was to explore the associations between clinical symptoms, demographic variables, social and neurocognitive functioning in euthymic patients with bipolar disorder (BD) stratified by subgroups of DSM-IV BD (type I (BD-I) and type II (BD-II)) and occupational status (employed/unemployed), and to highlight the significance of occupational status when assessing social and neurocognitive functioning in euthymic BD patients.

    A total of 81 euthymic BD patients were participated in the study. The severity of the depressive and manic/hypomanic symptoms was measured using the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS-17) and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), respectively. Social functioning and neurocognitive functioning were evaluated by the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) and neurocognitive measures, respectively.

The severity of the depressive and manic/hypomanic symptoms was measured using the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS-17) and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), respectively. Social functioning and neurocognitive functioning were evaluated by the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) and neurocognitive measures, respectively. Employed BD patients displayed greater social functioning (autonomy, occupational functioning, interpersonal relationship domain) and better verbal learning performance and speed of processing than unemployed BD patients.
