    Concerns about conflicts of interest (COIs) in research and health care are well known, but recent reports of authors failing to disclose potential COIs in journal articles threatens the integrity of the scholarly literature. While many nursing journals have published editorials on this topic, review of nursing journal policies on and experiences with COIs has not been reported. The purposes of this study were to examine the extent to which nursing journals have COI policies and require disclosures by authors, peer reviewers, editorial board members, and editors who have a role in journal content decisions.

    This cohort study addressed top-ranked nursing journal policies about and experiences with COIs in scholarly publications.

    An analysis of COI policies in the instructions for authors of 118 journals listed in the nursing category of Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports was completed in 2019. An electronic survey of the editors was also conducted to determine their awareness and experience witicated their journal had a COI policy for peer reviewers, and 29 (39.1%) stated they had a policy for editors. Few editors (n = 7; 9%) indicated that they had encountered problems pertaining to author COIs.

    Findings from this study may help promote ethical publication practices through comprehensive policies on disclosure and management of nursing journal authors, peer reviewers, and editors.

The drug treatments for these diseases are limited, which invariably leads to fatal cases. Hence, there is an urgent need for new antitrypanosomal drugs. To address this issue, a large number of diverse heterocyclic compounds were prepared. Straightforward synthetic approaches tolerated pre-functionalized structures, giving rise to a structurally diverse set of analogs. We report on a set of 57 heterocyclic compounds with selective activity potential against kinetoplastid parasites. In general, 29 and 19 compounds of the total set could be defined as active against Trypanosoma cruzi and T. brucei brucei, respectively (antitrypanosomal activities less then 10 μM). The present work discusses the structure-activity relationships of new fused-ring scaffolds based on imidazopyridine/pyrimidine and furopyridine cores. This library of compounds shows significant potential for anti-trypanosomiases drug discovery.The design, stereoselective synthesis and in vivo antiallodynic activity of four novel paroxetine analogs, named 3-hydroxy paroxetines (3HPXs), is reported herein. Among the novel synthesized compounds, three showed an antiallodynic effect, while (R,R)-3HPX was found to be 2.5 times more bioactive than (-)-paroxetine itself in neuropathic rats. Consequently, the current investigation not only discloses a novel promising analgesic drug, but also reveals that functionalization at the C3 position of paroxetine could be as effective as the common functionalization at either C4 or within the sesamol group.We report here that macrocyclic H-bonded pyridone pentamers, containing five properly and convergently spaced electron-rich O-atoms that decorate a rigid cavity of 2.85 Å across, exhibit an extraordinarily high yet pH-independent capacity and selectivity in Cs+ removal. In particular, with [host]=240 μM and [Cs+ ]=15 μM, a single extraction efficiently removes more than 91% of Cs+ ions from artificial sea water, containing various competitive metal ions at a total concentration of 0.68 M ([total Mn+ ]/[Cs+ ]=4.5×104 ]). To our best knowledge, these pyridone pentamers represent the best small organic molecule-based extractants that target Cs+ ions.
    Resistance of Botrytis cinerea to SDHI fungicides is widely distributed throughout the world and is associated with mutations in sdhB, differentially affecting mutant sensitivity to several succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHI) and the fitness of the strains. This study was initiated to test the hypothesis that Bacillus amyloliquefaciens QST713 (Ba QST713) can be utilized in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs aiming to control grey mould and eliminate sdhB mutants (H272R/Y, N230I and P225F/H/L).

    Protective and curative applications of Ba QST713 on artificially inoculated bean plants resulted in a significant reduction of disease incidence and severity. Competition experiments between sdhB mutants and wild-type isolates conducted either in the absence of any treatment or in the presence of Ba QST713 or fluopyram showed a dominance of sensitive strains over the mutated strains on untreated and Ba QST713-treated plants. Although conventional anti-inflammatory drugs reveal a certain amount of therapeutic effect, more reasonable design on plaque targeting, local anti-inflammation, and lipid removal are still required for comprehensive atherosclerosis therapy. In this work, a theranostic nanoplatform is developed for atherosclerosis recognition and inhibition. A two-photon aggregation-induced emission (AIE) active fluorophore (TP) developed is linked to β-cyclodextrin (CD) with a ROS responsive bond, which can carry prednisolone (Pred) in its entocoele via supramolecular interaction to build a diagnosis-therapy compound two-photon fluorophore-cyclodextrin/prednisolone complexes (TPCDP). With TPCDP packaged by nanosized micelles based on a ROS sensitive copolymer poly (2-methylthio ethanol methacrylate)-poly (2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine), the TPCDP@PMM can accumulate in atherosclerotic tissue through the damaged vascular endothelium.

Here we use whole genome sequencing (WGS) to investigate whether treatment of patients with pre-existing isoniazid resistant disease with first-line anti-tuberculosis therapy risks selecting for rifampicin resistance, and hence MDR-TB. METHODS Patients with isoniazid-resistant pulmonary TB were recruited and followed up for 24 months. Drug-susceptibility testing was performed by Microscopic observation drug-susceptibility assay (MODS), Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) and by WGS on isolates at first presentation and in the case of re-presentation. Where MDR-TB was diagnosed, WGS was used to determine the genomic relatedness between initial and subsequent isolates. De novo emergence of MDR-TB was assumed where the genomic distance was five or fewer single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) whereas reinfection with a different MDR-TB strain was assumed where the distance was 10 or more SNPs. RESULTS 239 patients with isoniazid-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis were recruited. Fourteen (14/239, 5.9%) patients were diagnosed with a second episode of tuberculosis that was multi-drug resistant. Six (6/239, 2.5%) were identified as having evolved MDR-TB de novo and six as having been re-infected with a different strain. In two cases the genomic distance was between 5-10 SNPs and therefore indeterminate. CONCLUSIONS In isoniazid-resistant TB, de novo emergence and reinfection of MDR-TB strains equally contributed to MDR development. Early diagnosis and optimal treatment of isoniazid resistant TB are urgently needed to avert the de novo emergence of MDR-TB during treatment. © The Author(s) 2020. However, targeted visualization of infectious viruses is still highly challenging owing to their nanoscopic sizes and uncontrollable nonspecific interactions with loading molecules responsible for false signals. Here we present a multimodal single-molecule and single-particle (SMSP) visualization capable of simultaneously yet independently tracking Rayleigh scattering and fluorescence that, respectively, are generated from viruses (approximately 100 nm) and labeled interacting molecules. By analyzing real-time trajectories of fluorescent antibodies against a virus surface protein with reference to single virus-derived Rayleigh scattering, we determined heterogeneous binding stoichiometry of virus-antibody couplings irrespective of the nonspecific binder population. Therefore, our multimodal (or multi-level) SMSP assay visually identifies and selectively quantifies specific interactions between them with single binding event accuracy. As a 'specific-binding quantifier' to assess variable host susceptibility to a virus, it was further applied for distinguishing ratiometric bindings and spontaneous dissociation kinetics of synthesized isomeric receptors to influenza virus. The present framework could offer a solid analytical foundation for the development of a direct-acting antiviral agent inhibiting an integral viral enveloped protein and for nanobiological investigation for dissecting spatiotemporal nanoparticle-molecule interactions, which have been scarcely explored compared to those among plasmonic nanoparticles or among molecules only.Recently, 2D tellurene (Te) structures have been experimentally synthesized. These structures possess high carrier mobility and stability which make them ideal candidates for applications in electronics, optoelectronics and energy devices. We performed density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the stability and electronic structure of 2D α- and β-Te sheets, and hydrogen, oxygen, and fluorine functionalized counterparts, including spin-orbit coupling effects. Our calculations show that bare α and β-Te sheets are stable with band gaps of 0.44 eV and 1.02 eV respectively. When functionalized, α and β monolayers exhibit metallic properties, except for hydrogenated β-Te, which exhibits semiconducting properties with a band gap of 1.37 eV.   • PURPOSE To assess the impact of measurement error on cylinder treatment planning in corneal refractive surgery and to compare the reliability of two indices of cylinder change the Correction Index, based on the surgically induced astigmatism, and the Flattening Index, based on the flattening effect. METHODS Preoperative refractions and surgical outcomes were evaluated using a Monte Carlo simulation. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/atezolizumab.html Cylinder change was calculated using vector analysis. The initial distribution of cylinder magnitudes was matched to a population sample of 1,000 eyes prior to LASIK. Refraction measurement error was modeled both preoperatively and postoperatively, with a non-linear optimization solver optimizing treatment effect for each amount of preoperative cylinder. Model assumptions were subsequently tested against LASIK outcomes data. RESULTS The mean Flattening Index was approximately 1 for all levels of preoperative cylinder, whereas the Correction Index was significantly higher than 1 for cylinder treatments of 1.00 diopters (D) or less when preoperative and postoperative measurement errors were taken into consideration.     PURPOSE To assess the impact of measurement error on cylinder treatment planning in corneal refractive surgery and to compare the reliability of two indices of cylinder change the Correction Index, based on the surgically induced astigmatism, and the Flattening Index, based on the flattening effect.   • Purpose The purpose of this systematic review is to examine mental, sociocultural, behavioral, and physical risk and protective factors related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and related outcomes among U.S. Indigenous peoples. Methods A total of 51 articles met the inclusion criteria of research focusing factors for CVD among U.S. Indigenous peoples (Mental n= 15; Sociocultural, n =17; Behavioral/Physical, n =19). Results This review reveals clear risks for CVD, which tended to be elevated for females. Mental health problems (depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, alcohol and other drug (AOD) abuse) were clearly associated with CVD, along with enculturation, social support, and the social environment-including discrimination and trauma. Poor diet and obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol were behavioral or physical factors. Discussion Overall, identified research was limited and in beginning stages, lacking more information on etiology of the interconnections across sex and the mental, sociocultural, and behavioral determinants of CVD.The purpose of this article is to explore how food and other cultural traditions promote wellness, cultural continuity, enculturation, and family resilience within tribal communities in the U.S. Using the Framework of Historical Oppression, Resilience, and Transcendence (FHORT), this critical ethnography examines Indigenous peoples' perspectives on and experiences with food and cultural traditions. Thematic analysis of data from 436 participants (approximately 2/3rds of which were women) across two Southeastern tribes revealed a theme of "fostering the transmission of tribal knowledge and intergenerational family bonding." Traditions such as dancing, food, sewing, beadwork, basket-weaving, music, and tribal sports were some important facets of tribal culture that participants described. Food and cultural practices promoted wellness, pro-social values, and health by fostering physical activity, traditional food practices, enculturation, and social support. Cultural practices offset historical oppression and health disparities. Programs that utilize the strengths of experiential learning through family and cultural practices are highly recommended.Illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing is widespread; it is therefore likely that illicit trade in marine fish catch is also common worldwide. We combine ecological-economic databases to estimate the magnitude of illicit trade in marine fish catch and its impacts on people. Globally, between 8 and 14 million metric tons of unreported catches are potentially traded illicitly yearly, suggesting gross revenues of US$9 to US$17 billion associated with these catches. Estimated loss in annual economic impact due to the diversion of fish from the legitimate trade system is US$26 to US$50 billion, while losses to countries' tax revenues are between US$2 and US$4 billion. Country-by-country estimates of these losses are provided in the Supplementary Materials. We find substantial likely economic effects of illicit trade in marine fish catch, suggesting that bold policies and actions by both public and private actors are needed to curb this illicit trade. FtsZ assembly fails in respiring cells because NO inactivates inosine 5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase in de novo purine nucleotide biosynthesis and quinol oxidases in the electron transport chain, leading to drastic depletion of nucleoside triphosphates, including the GTP needed for the polymerization of FtsZ. Despite inhibiting respiration and dissipating proton motive force, NO does not destroy Z ring formation and only modestly decreases nucleoside triphosphates in glycolytic cells, which obtain **** of their ATP by substrate-level phosphorylation and overexpress inosine 5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase. Here, we found that blood-stage malaria parasites predominantly induced CD4+Foxp3+CD25+ regulatory T cells to release soluble fibrinogen-like protein 2 (sFGL2), which substantially enhanced the infection. This was attributed to the capacity of sFGL2 to inhibit macrophages from releasing monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and to sequentially reduce the recruitment of natural killer/natural killer T cells to the spleen and the production of interferon-γ. sFGL2 inhibited c-Jun N-terminal kinase phosphorylation in the Toll-like receptor 2 signaling pathway of macrophages dependent on FcγRIIB receptor to release MCP-1. Notably, sFGL2 were markedly elevated in the sera of patients with malaria, and recombinant FGL2 substantially suppressed Plasmodium falciparum from inducing macrophages to release MCP-1. Therefore, we highlight a previously unrecognized immune suppression strategy of malaria parasites and uncover the fundamental mechanism of sFGL2 to suppress host innate immune responses.   • Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by the tapeworm of the genus Echinococcus, a cestode endemic in many parts of the world. CE can affect any organ, with the lung being the second most commonly affected organ after the liver. For the management of pulmonary CE, guidelines recommend surgical resection of cysts with adjuvant anti-helminthic therapy. In cases where surgery is not possible, medical therapy alone can be used. However, to date, there is a paucity of data to advocate for one modality over the other. Here, we report two cases of pulmonary CE caused by E. granulosus, one was managed with surgery and adjuvant anti-helminthic therapy while the other was managed with medical therapy alone. Both patients had clinical and radiological resolution outlining the role and efficacy of both modalities of therapy. It is very rare for patients with this condition to present initially with a penile lesion only. We report the case of a 63-year-old man who presented initially with an isolated single penile lesion. He subsequently developed multiple skin nodules over his right arm, chest, and trunk. The diagnosis of sarcoidosis was made based on clinical, radiological, and histopathological reports. The patient responded well to steroids. There is vast phenotype variation in patients with A-T and recently, dystonia, an extrapyramidal movement disorder. Here, we report the case of a 10-year-old girl who had experienced repeated diarrhea and mild gait ataxia since the age of two years. At age seven, ataxia and ocular telangiectasia were evident and immunoglobulin level assessment showed hyper IgM immune phenotype, thus a diagnosis of A-T was made based on clinical and laboratory findings, and she was started on intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. Generalized dystonia appeared when she was 10-years-old. Molecular analysis revealed two heterozygous mutations, c.6259delG and c.6658C>T, in the ATM gene of which one (c.6259delG) is novel. Dystonia can be part of the clinical picture in the A-T disorder and may even mask ataxia. This should be considered as a major feature mainly in variant A-T, which may occur without general ataxia and may be misdiagnosed in adults with primary dystonia. We sought to describe the sociodemographic characteristics, clinical presentation, investigations, treatment, and outcome of histoplasmosis in Bangladesh. We conducted a retrospective data review of published literature from 1962 to 2017, containing information on histoplasmosis in and/or from Bangladesh. Unpublished, well-documented histoplasmosis cases were also included. A total of 26 male patients aged 8-75 years, with a diagnosis of histoplasmosis were included; nine were farmers, seven had diabetes, one was a renal transplant recipient, and four had HIV/AIDS. Fever (n = 20), weight loss (n = 17), anemia (n = 15), lymphadenopathy (n = 9), and hepatosplenomegaly (n = 7) were common. Eleven patients had bilateral adrenal enlargement. Diagnosis was confirmed by histo/cytopathology from skin (n = 1), oropharyngeal ulcers (n = 8), lymph nodes (n = 3), adrenal glands (n = 11), paravertebral soft tissue (n = 2), and bone marrow (n = 4). Cultures of representative samples and antibodies were detected in three and two cases, respectively. Twenty-two patients had disseminated histoplasmosis and four patients had localized oropharyngeal disease. Histoplasmosis is thought to be endemic in Bangladesh, but few cases are reported to date, which may be due to many asymptomatic, undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or under-reported cases. Available evidence suggested that interventions of varying intensity may lead to a reduction in depression symptoms and that moderate-to-vigorous-intensity and light-intensity interventions may reduce anxiety symptoms. Effects of physical activity/exercise interventions on additional mental health outcomes were also shown; however, the number of studies was small, indicating a limited evidence base. Robust research regarding the effects of physical activity/exercise on mental health promotion and as an indicated prevention strategy in young people is lacking. Conclusion The available evidence suggests that physical activity/exercise is a promising mental health promotion and early intervention strategy and warrants further investigation.
    Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by the tapeworm of the genus Echinococcus, a cestode endemic in many parts of the world. CE can affect any organ, with the lung being the second most commonly affected organ after the liver. For the management of pulmonary CE, guidelines recommend surgical resection of cysts with adjuvant anti-helminthic therapy. In cases where surgery is not possible, medical therapy alone can be used. However, to date, there is a paucity of data to advocate for one modality over the other. Here, we report two cases of pulmonary CE caused by E. granulosus, one was managed with surgery and adjuvant anti-helminthic therapy while the other was managed with medical therapy alone. Both patients had clinical and radiological resolution outlining the role and efficacy of both modalities of therapy. It is very rare for patients with this condition to present initially with a penile lesion only. We report the case of a 63-year-old man who presented initially with an isolated single penile lesion. He subsequently developed multiple skin nodules over his right arm, chest, and trunk. The diagnosis of sarcoidosis was made based on clinical, radiological, and histopathological reports. The patient responded well to steroids. There is vast phenotype variation in patients with A-T and recently, dystonia, an extrapyramidal movement disorder. Here, we report the case of a 10-year-old girl who had experienced repeated diarrhea and mild gait ataxia since the age of two years. At age seven, ataxia and ocular telangiectasia were evident and immunoglobulin level assessment showed hyper IgM immune phenotype, thus a diagnosis of A-T was made based on clinical and laboratory findings, and she was started on intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. Generalized dystonia appeared when she was 10-years-old. Molecular analysis revealed two heterozygous mutations, c.6259delG and c.6658C>T, in the ATM gene of which one (c.6259delG) is novel. Dystonia can be part of the clinical picture in the A-T disorder and may even mask ataxia. This should be considered as a major feature mainly in variant A-T, which may occur without general ataxia and may be misdiagnosed in adults with primary dystonia. We sought to describe the sociodemographic characteristics, clinical presentation, investigations, treatment, and outcome of histoplasmosis in Bangladesh. We conducted a retrospective data review of published literature from 1962 to 2017, containing information on histoplasmosis in and/or from Bangladesh. Unpublished, well-documented histoplasmosis cases were also included. A total of 26 male patients aged 8-75 years, with a diagnosis of histoplasmosis were included; nine were farmers, seven had diabetes, one was a renal transplant recipient, and four had HIV/AIDS. Fever (n = 20), weight loss (n = 17), anemia (n = 15), lymphadenopathy (n = 9), and hepatosplenomegaly (n = 7) were common. Eleven patients had bilateral adrenal enlargement. Diagnosis was confirmed by histo/cytopathology from skin (n = 1), oropharyngeal ulcers (n = 8), lymph nodes (n = 3), adrenal glands (n = 11), paravertebral soft tissue (n = 2), and bone marrow (n = 4). Cultures of representative samples and antibodies were detected in three and two cases, respectively. Twenty-two patients had disseminated histoplasmosis and four patients had localized oropharyngeal disease. This study explored the utility of nanoparticles presenting the α-gal (Galα1-3Galβ1-4GlcNAc-R) epitope to induce anti-Gal antibody-mediated local transient recruitment of macrophages to accelerate wound closure and healing in a diabetic murine model. α1,3galactosyltrasferase knockout **** were stimulated to produce anti-Gal antibodies and subsequently diabetes was induced by streptozotocin-induced β-cell destruction. Six mm full-thickness skin wounds were made and α-gal nanoparticles (AGN) were topically applied on postwounding days 0 and 1. Wounds were analysed histologically for macrophage invasion and markers of wound healing, including epithelialization, vascularization and granulation tissue deposition through postoperative day 12. We found that application of AGN transiently but significantly increased macrophage recruitment into the wounds of diabetic ****. Treated wounds demonstrated more rapid closure and enhanced wound healing as demonstrated by significantly accelerated rates of epithelialization, vascularization and granulation tissue deposition. Thus, topical treatment of full-thickness wounds in diabetic **** with α-gal nanoparticles induced a transient but significant increase in macrophage recruitment resulting in an accelerated rate of wound healing. OBJECTIVE To validate the proposed knee cellulite severity score (KCSS) for the assessment of cellulite and skin laxity above the knee. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on standardized photographs of cellulite and skin laxity above the knees of 57 females (114 knees), three key morphological aspects of cellulite were identified. A photonumeric KCSS was developed and validated by 3 independent assessors. RESULTS The three key cellulite morphological features (number of depressions, depth of depressions and presence of laxity) are each graded from 0 to 3, producing a classification of no lesions (0), mild (1-3), moderate (4-6), and severe (7-9). Evaluators at different time points repeated similar classifications (intraclass correlation coefficient > 0.9), which were also similar among the assessors (inter-observer reliability > 0.9). All three key morphological aspects were deemed necessary, and positively contributed, to the overall scale (item-total correlation analysis values > 0.89, p less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The KCSS is a consistent, comprehensive, reliable, and reproducible tool for standardized and objective assessment of the severity of cellulite and skin laxity above the knees. METHODS Literature search on programmes for parental caregiving sensitivity and secure attachment for infants aged 0-24 months. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published 1995-2018 with interventions starting from one week postpartum, and with a maximum of 12 sessions (plus potential booster session) were included. RESULTS We identified 25 studies, of which 22 studied effects of home-based programmes using video feedback techniques. Positive effects of these interventions in families at risk were found on parental caregiving sensitivity and to a lesser extent also on children's secure or disorganised attachment. The effects of two of these programmes were supported by several RCTs. Three intervention studies based on group and individual psychotherapy showed no significant positive effects. Most of the interventions targeted mothers only. CONCLUSIONS The review found some evidence for positive effects of selective interventions with video feedback techniques for children's secure attachment and strong evidence for positive effects on parental caregiving sensitivity. The proportion of MELD Sodium score attributable to creatinine ("KidneyMELD") was calculated (9.57 × ln (creatinine) × 100)/(MELD-Na - 6.43). The association of KidneyMELD with (a) all-cause mortality and (b) estimated glomerular filtration rate ≤30 mL/min/1.732 at 1-year post-LT were evaluated. Recipients with KidneyMELD ≥50% had a 52% higher risk of post-LT mortality (adjusted hazard ratio 1.52 vs KidneyMELD 0%, 95% CI 1.36-1.69; P 50 years at LT (interaction P  less then  .001). KidneyMELD ≥50% was also associated with an 11-fold increase in the odds of advanced renal dysfunction at 1-year post-LT (adjusted odds ratio 11.53 vs KidneyMELD 0%; 95% CI 8.9-14.93; P  less then  .001). Recipients prioritized for LT primarily on the basis of renal dysfunction have marked post-LT mortality and morbidity independent of MELD Sodium score.

However, most of them are too stable to release the hydrogen under moderate conditions. Here we synthesize the hydride of Mg2FexSi1-x, which consists of Mg2FeH6 and Mg2Si with the same cubic structure. For silicon-rich hydrides (x less then 0.5), mostly the Mg2Si phase is observed by X-ray diffraction, and Mössbauer spectroscopy indicates the formation of an octahedral FeH6 unit. Transmission electron microscopy measurements indicate that Mg2FeH6 domains are nanometer-sized and embedded in a Mg2Si matrix. This synthesized metallographic structure leads to distortion of the Mg2FeH6 lattice, resulting in thermal destabilization. Our results indicate that nanometer-sized magnesium-based transition-metal hydrides can be formed into a matrix-forced organization induced by the hydrogenation of nonequilibrium Mg-Fe-Si composites. In this way, the thermodynamics of hydrogen absorption and desorption can be tuned, which allows for the development of lightweight and inexpensive hydrogen storage materials.Cation ordering in perovskite-derived phases can lead to a wealth of tunable physical properties. In this material, a lack of B-site ordering is observed through traditional crystallographic techniques, but antiferromagnetic ordering in the magnetism data suggests that B-site cation ordering is indeed present. Neutron total scattering, particularly analysis of the neutron pair distribution function, reveals that the structure is locally B-site-ordered below 6 Å but becomes slightly disordered in the midrange structure around 12 Å. This provides evidence for paracrystalline order in this material cation ordering within a single perovskite sheet that lacks perfect registry within the three-dimensional stack of sheets. This work highlights the importance of employing a structural technique that can probe both the local and midrange order in addition to the crystallographic structure and provides a structural origin to the observed magnetic properties of LaSr3NiRuO8. Transmission electron microscopy measurements indicate that Mg2FeH6 domains are nanometer-sized and embedded in a Mg2Si matrix. This synthesized metallographic structure leads to distortion of the Mg2FeH6 lattice, resulting in thermal destabilization.     Here we present a case of amiodarone lung toxicity, with diagnosis suspected based on patient's history of chronic cardiac disease, amiodarone treatment, and imaging characteristics. Evaluation with dual energy CT demonstrated high iodine content in the mass-like consolidation further supporting the diagnosis. Biopsy of the mass-like consolidation confirmed amiodarone toxicity.

    Lateral and Merchant radiographs (22 images) of knees with four conditions (patellar instability, APTR, quadriceps tendon rupture, and controls) were randomly shown to 50 trainees and non-trainees who were asked to make a diagnosis based on radiographs. A brief tutorial was administered describing the "Empty Merchant Sign" and the same 22 images were randomly shown after the tutorial. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value were calculated between the two image types and the effect of tutorial on these measures was assessed.

    After the tutorial 1. the "Empty Merchant Sign" had a higher specificity (100%) and positive predictive value (99%) compared to the lateral radiograph (81% and 64% respectively, P<0.001), 2. There was significant improvement (from 56% to 95.3%; P<0.001) in the accuracy of the Merchant view, making it as accurate as the lateral view (95.3% vs. 90.7%, respectively; P=0.113). This encompassed 64 consecutive patients (95 breasts) with tissue expander or direct-to-implant reconstruction and either AlloDerm or DermACELL ADM. Demographics, particulars of the surgery, additional treatments and complications were all recorded. Differences in seroma, haematoma and infection rates, as well as more serious complications including implant replacement, capsular contracture and failure, were all reviewed. The groups were comparable in terms of age, BMI and relevant comorbidities. Mastectomy weight and resulting implant volume were higher in the DermACELL group, with volume reaching statistical significance (p = 0.001). With an average follow-up of 18 months, there was no difference in capsular contraction or implant replacement. However, in those who developed capsular contracture in the DermACELL group, more breasts had no history of radiation, which was significant (p = 0.042). Results 31 studies on macrostomia repair were obtained. The layered closure technique is widely described with several variations on closure of the inner mucosa, orbicularis muscle, commissure and skin. The inner mucosal layer is in most cases sutured with a straight line closure technique. The muscle is most often duplicated and sutured with upper branches overlapping lower branches. The skin is in most cases sutured with either a z- or a w-plasty with variations.The five presented patients all had satisfactory functional and aesthetic results at follow-up. Conclusion Many variations of surgical techniques for macrostomia repair have been presented in the past. We believe that each case of macrostomia needs to be assessed with a tailored surgical plan in order to create the best results. Historically, in our clinic, groin flap phalloplasty (GFP) has been the dominating method, but during the last 20 years, it has gradually been replaced with metoidioplasty (MP). The aim of this study was to investigate whether this change of method has influenced factors such as the frequency of complications and the number of operations needed to complete the reconstruction of the neophallus. Methods This is a retrospective, single-centre, study comprising 123 consecutive female-to-male patients receiving a neophallus by GFP or MP between 2002 and 2015 at Linköping University Hospital, Sweden. Results One-hundred twenty-three patients underwent 126 primary surgical procedures (39 GFPs and 87 MPs) with the intention of reconstructing a neophallus. The mean number of procedures required in the GFP group was 5.2 ± 2.7 compared with that of 2.4 ± 1.7 in the MP group (p less then 0.001). In the GFP group, 18/39 (46.2%) had a documented complication compared with 30/87 (34.5%) in the MP group; however, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.21). Conclusions The present study shows that the shift in method from GFP to MP has resulted in a decreased number of complications as well as a decrease in total surgical occasions. Few people with pets realise the infectious risk this entails. This case describes a Pasteurella canis infection of a breast implant following close contact between a patient and her cat. A 59-year-old woman developed infection of her breast implant 7 months after implantation. Surgical revision was performed after failure of conservative treatment with antibiotics. Perioperative samples from the periprosthetic fluid were positive for P. canis, a Gram-negative coccobacillus that is present in the oropharyngeal commensal flora of cats and dogs. History revealed that the patient owned a cat for 2 years. This case highlights the possible risk of zoonotic infections in humans with protheses following close contact with a cat. Antibiotic therapy and surgical revision, with or without removal of the prosthesis constitute the cornerstone of treatment in such cases. © 2019 The Authors.

We believe that each case of macrostomia needs to be assessed with a tailored surgical plan in order to create the best results. A combination of different techniques with Bütow and Botha's and Kaplan's technique as a starting point, is believed to give satisfactory functional and aesthetic results. © 2019 The Authors.Background In gender-confirming surgery of the female-to-male gender dysphoric patient, there is currently no ideal method for the creation of a neophallus. Historically, in our clinic, groin flap phalloplasty (GFP) has been the dominating method, but during the last 20 years, it has gradually been replaced with metoidioplasty (MP). The aim of this study was to investigate whether this change of method has influenced factors such as the frequency of complications and the number of operations needed to complete the reconstruction of the neophallus. Methods This is a retrospective, single-centre, study comprising 123 consecutive female-to-male patients receiving a neophallus by GFP or MP between 2002 and 2015 at Linköping University Hospital, Sweden. Results One-hundred twenty-three patients underwent 126 primary surgical procedures (39 GFPs and 87 MPs) with the intention of reconstructing a neophallus. The mean number of procedures required in the GFP group was 5.2 ± 2.7 compared with that of 2.4 ± 1.7 in the MP group (p less then 0.001). In the GFP group, 18/39 (46.2%) had a documented complication compared with 30/87 (34.5%) in the MP group; however, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.21). Conclusions The present study shows that the shift in method from GFP to MP has resulted in a decreased number of complications as well as a decrease in total surgical occasions. Both methods were found to be associated with relatively high frequencies of complications, however, mostly minor. © 2019 The Authors.Zoonotic infections represent an uncommon phenomenon. Few people with pets realise the infectious risk this entails. This case describes a Pasteurella canis infection of a breast implant following close contact between a patient and her cat. A 59-year-old woman developed infection of her breast implant 7 months after implantation. Surgical revision was performed after failure of conservative treatment with antibiotics. Perioperative samples from the periprosthetic fluid were positive for P. canis, a Gram-negative coccobacillus that is present in the oropharyngeal commensal flora of cats and dogs. History revealed that the patient owned a cat for 2 years. This case highlights the possible risk of zoonotic infections in humans with protheses following close contact with a cat. Antibiotic therapy and surgical revision, with or without removal of the prosthesis constitute the cornerstone of treatment in such cases. © 2019 The Authors.
