    Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aims to establish an immune-related LncRNA model for risk assessment and prognosis prediction in HCC patients.

The present study aims to analyze the outcome of a unilateral approach to endoscopic surgery for lumbar stenosis using the visual analog scale (VAS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and MacNab's criteria. Methods This is a retrospective study (level IV) conducted between January 2009 and December 2013 on 60 patients who underwent endoscopic interlaminar decompressive spine surgery (Destandau method) for lumbar degenerative spinal stenosis in the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. The data indicated that the lockdown has affected dietary habits of adult Danes to a relatively limited degree. The most important findings were that a substantial proportion of respondents (≥28%) reported eating more, snacking more, exercising less, and gaining weight during the lockdown. Results could be linked to the amount of time spent at home (e.g., a higher cooking frequency) a higher degree of emotional eating during the lockdown (e.g., a higher consumption of pastries and alcohol).

  • Understanding how upper-limb prostheses are used in daily life helps to improve the design and robustness of prosthesis control algorithms and prosthetic components. However, only a very small fraction of published research includes prosthesis use in community settings. The cost, limited battery life, and poor generalisation may be the main reasons limiting the implementation of home-based applications. In this work, we introduce the design of a cost-effective Arduino-based myoelectric control system with wearable electromyogram (EMG) sensors. The design considerations focused on home studies, so the robustness, user-friendly control adjustments, and user supports were the main concerns. Three control algorithms, namely, direct control, abstract control, and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classification, were implemented in the system. In this paper, we will share our design principles and report the robustness of the system in continuous operation in the laboratory. In addition, we will show a first real-time implementation of the abstract decoder for prosthesis control with an able-bodied participant.In many medical image classification tasks, there is insufficient image data for deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to overcome the over-fitting problem. The light-weighted CNNs are easy to train but they usually have relatively poor classification performance. To improve the classification ability of light-weighted CNN models, we have proposed a novel batch similarity-based triplet loss to guide the CNNs to learn the weights. The proposed loss utilizes the similarity among multiple samples in the input batches to evaluate the distribution of training data. The ratio of daily omega-3 fatty acids to energy intake (ω3FA ratio) was classified into four quartile groups (Q1, less then 0.3%; Q2, 0.3%- less then 0.6%; Q3, 0.6%- less then 1.0%; and Q4, ≥1.0% in both sexes). Logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the association between the ω3FA ratio and subclinical inflammation defined as CRP levels ≥3 mg/dL. (3) Results The ω3FA ratio in subjects without and with subclinical inflammation was 0.8% and 0.7% in men (p-value = 0.001), and 0.8% and 0.8% in women (p-value = 0.491), respectively. The prevalence of subclinical inflammation in males decreased with increasing quartile of ω3FA ratio (12.9%, 9.6%, 7.4%, and 7.7%, p-value = 0.033), while female prevalence was not significant among quartile groups. Compared to Q1, odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for subclinical inflammation of Q2, Q3, and Q4 were 0.740 (0.465-1.177), 0.564 (0.341-0.930), and 0.549 (0.317-0.953) in males, and 1.066 (0.653-1.741), 1.105 (0.600-1.718), and 0.934 (0.556-1.571) in females after full adjustment. First, an entropy-based method for measuring factor contributions is reviewed. Second, the entropy-based contribution measure of the common-factor vector is decomposed into those of canonical common factors, and it is also shown that the importance order of factors is that of their canonical correlation coefficients. Third, the method is applied to derive interpretable common factors. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the usefulness of the present approach.

Palbociclib was the first CDK 4/6 inhibitor approved for HR+/HER2- ABC/****treatment in Canada in combination with letrozole (P+L) as an initial endocrine-based therapy (approved March 2016), or with fulvestrant (P+F) following disease progression after prior endocrine therapy (approved May 2017). The Ibrance Real World Insights (IRIS) study (NCT03159195) collected real-world outcomes data for palbociclib-treated patients in several countries, including Canada.

    The Questionnaire on Eating and Weight Patterns-5 (QEWP-5) is a self-report instrument developed to screen individuals for binge eating disorder (BED) and bulimia nervosa (BN) as diagnosed by the DSM-5. This instrument was cross-culturally adapted for the Brazilian Portuguese and well understood by the target sample. The present study aimed to assess the test-retest reliability of the Brazilian version of QEWP-5 in a sample of undergraduate students from Dietitian and Psychology courses.

    The Brazilian version of QEWP-5 was administered to a sample of 345 male and female undergraduate students, from dietitian (n = 179) and psychology (n = 166) courses. The instrument was applied twice with a time interval of 2weeks between the applications. The kappa coefficient was used to assess the temporal stability of the questionnaire in the screening of BED and BN.

    Overall, the kappa coefficient for the screening of BED was .48, and for the screening of BN was .71. In the dietitian course, the temporal stability was .60 (for the assessment of BED) and .80 (for BN). In the psychology course, the kappa values for the assessment of BED and BN were .27 and .60, respectively. All values were statistically significant (p < .001).

    In general, the stability of the Brazilian version of QEWP-5 was considered moderate to assess BED and substantial for the screening of BN in undergraduate students. Stratifying by course, the questionnaire had higher stability for the assessment of BED and BN in dietitian students.

Subjects were prostatic hyperplasia patients prophylactically receiving a 0.5-hour infusion of 1.5 g (10.5 g) or 3 g (21 g) ampicillin-sulbactam before transurethral resection of the prostate. Ampicillin and sulbactam concentrations in plasma and prostate tissue were measured. The prostate tissue/plasma ratios of both ampicillin and sulbactam were approximately 0.37 (area under the drug concentration-time curve), and penetration was similar. The prostatic population pharmacokinetic model, which included a covariate analysis, adequately predicted prostate tissue concentrations in our patient population. For therapeutic use, aiming for a bactericidal target of 50% of time above minimum inhibitory concentration (T > MIC) in prostate tissue, 3 g ampicillin-sulbactam 4 times daily achieved ≥90% expected probability against only Enterococcus faecalis in typical patients with a creatinine clearance (CLcr ) of 30 mL/min.     We identified nonmetastatic cases of CCCS (N = 180) from the Cancer Registry of Norway. We present prognostic analysis of LR accounting for immortal time bias by descriptive statistics and multivariable Cox models.

    Of 40 LR, one case demonstrated upgrading while two dedifferentiation. LR was associated with increased risk of metastasis (hazard ratio [HR] = 4.1 [confidence interval, 1.5-10.7]) and death (HR = 9.3 [5.0-17.5]) overall. Subjects were prostatic hyperplasia patients prophylactically receiving a 0.5-hour infusion of 1.5 g (10.5 g) or 3 g (21 g) ampicillin-sulbactam before transurethral resection of the prostate. Ampicillin and sulbactam concentrations in plasma and prostate tissue were measured. The prostate tissue/plasma ratios of both ampicillin and sulbactam were approximately 0.37 (area under the drug concentration-time curve), and penetration was similar. The prostatic population pharmacokinetic model, which included a covariate analysis, adequately predicted prostate tissue concentrations in our patient population.     Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use among adolescents is associated with increased risk of subsequent cigarette smoking initiation in observational research. However, the existing research was not designed to answer causal questions about whether adolescent e-cigarette users would have initiated cigarette smoking if they had never used e-cigarettes. The current study used a causal inference framework to identify whether male adolescent e-cigarette users were at increased risk of initiating cigarette smoking and smokeless tobacco (SLT) use, compared to similar boys who had never used e-cigarettes.

    Boys from urban and Appalachian Ohio (N=1220; ages 11-16years at enrollment) reported use of e-cigarettes, cigarettes, and SLT at baseline and every six months for two years. A propensity score matching design was implemented, matching one e-cigarette user to two similar e-cigarette non-users. This analysis was completed in 25 multiple imputed datasets to account for missing data. In this study, we used amplicon sequencing to characterize soil and grass phyllosphere bacterial communities in 40 urban green spaces and three minimally disturbed national parks in Victoria, Australia. The results indicated that urbanization might have shown different impacts on soil and grass phyllosphere microbial communities. Dichlorvos is a common crop insecticide widely used by people which causes extensive and serious environmental pollution. However, it has been shown that organophosphorus poisoning causes energy metabolism and neural disorders. The overall purpose of this study was to investigate the damage to brain tissue and the changes in AMPK signaling pathway-related gene expression after dichlorvos poisoning in chickens. White-feathered broiler chickens, as the research subjects of this experiment, were divided into three groups control group, low-dose group (77.5% dichlorvos at 1.13 mg/kg dose) and high-dose group (77.5% dichlorvos at 10.2 mg/kg dose). Clinical symptoms were observed after modeling, and an integrative analysis was conducted using HE staining microscopy, immune-histochemical microscopy, electron microscopy and PCR arrays. The results showed that the high-dose group had more obvious dyspnea, salivation, convulsion and other neurological phenomena. Pathological sections showed that nuclear disintegration or the prevention and treatment of organophosphorus poisoning. More people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are now being identified in the criminal justice system, and in parallel with this increase, the prevalence of ASD in the community has risen more than 150 % in the same time period. In this article, I will argue that this increase is due to a reclassification of those individuals whose social, communicative and behavioural function is at the lower end of the normal range. Put simply, extremes of these quantitative traits are now being conceptualised as 'disorder'. This has particular relevance for the criminal justice system as such traits are over-represented in this population as such, it is likely that increasing numbers of people who are incarcerated will receive an ASD diagnosis. This will have major implications for where best, and how best, to manage such individuals using a framework of 'disorder' versus 'difference'. This study extends the application of pyrolyzed biochar and investigates its influence on the mechanical, sorption and microstructure properties of magnesium phosphate cement mortar. Biochar was produced by the pyrolysis of wheat straw biomass by controlled burning and its replacement level was kept up to 1.5%. At the age of 30 days, the compressive and flexural strength of mortar containing 1.5% biochar was 17.3% and 9.0% higher as compared to the control mortar, which was associated with the micro-filler and internal reservoir effect of biochar particles. Inclusion of biochar considerably improved the resistance of magnesium phosphate cement in the water environment. Sorptivity and water absorption of mortar containing 1.5% biochar was reduced by 33.8% and 25% respectively than the control mortar. Challenges include the incorporation of multi-scale interactions, and the application of species distribution models (SDMs) to rare organism with multiple life stages. To support the planning of conservation actions for the highly endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussel Margaritifera margaritifera (FPM), this paper aims at developing an ecohydrological modeling cascade including a hydrological model (SWAT) and a hydraulic model (HEC-RAS). Building on hydrology and hydraulics, Random Forest models for potential risk to juveniles due to sand accumulation, SDMs for adults habitat niche, and a landscape connectivity assessment of dispersal potential were developed. The feasibility of such models integration was tested in the Aist catchment (630 km2) in Austria. The potential FPM habitat and the sand accumulation risk for the whole catchment were predicted with good accuracy.

Inocula showed a remarkable homogeneity on banding patterns, all of them but one showing 19-kDa PrPres. However, a number of isolates caused accumulation of 21-kDa PrPres in TgShp XI. These advantages make family-based association tests (FBATs) that use siblings as well as parents especially suited for the analysis of late-onset diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, the application of FBATs to assess sex-specific effects can require additional filtering steps, as sensitivity to sequencing errors is amplified in this type of analysis. We propose a new mean-field of pseudospin-strings to solve this kinetic model. The theoretical results show that, with decreasing pseudospin concentration, there are evolutions from normal-ferroelectrics to relaxor-ferroelectrics to paraelectrics, especially indicating by the crossovers from, (a) the sharp to diffuse change at the phase-transition temperature to disappearance in the whole temperature range of order-parameter, and (b) the power-law to Vogel-Fulcher-law to Arrhenius-relation of the average relaxation time. Particularly, the calculated local-order-parameter of the relaxor-ferroelectrics gives the polar-nano-regions appearing far above the diffuse-phase-transition and shows the quasi-fractal characteristic near and below the transition temperature. We also provide a new mechanism of Burns-transformation which stems from not only the polar-nano-regions but also the correlation-function between pseudospins, and put forward a definition of the canonical relaxor-ferroelectrics. In April 2011, the Health Service Executive (HSE) implemented the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) in a phased regional basis in Ireland. This study aimed to investigate the general clinical pathway for UNHS referrals to the CI service and to evaluate the impact of earlier referrals via UNHS on functional outcomes in children. METHODS The first part of this study constituted a retrospective review of 100 children referred to the National Hearing Implant and Research Centre (NHIRC) via UNHS from November 2011 to December 2016. Implanted children referred via UNHS were categorised into three groups according to their medical status. Their clinical pathway to cochlear implantation was evaluated. Functional outcomes were investS were referred and implanted at a younger age than those referred pre-UNHS. The former group achieved better Categories of Auditory Performance (CAP) and Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR) scores 2 years post-implantation. CONCLUSION UNHS in Ireland is an important platform for earlier diagnosis and management of congenital HL and our results show that early intervention has a positive impact on functional outcomes in children. Crosswalk markings are a type of facility installed at the vehicle-pedestrian interaction locations and the function is to warn drivers to watch out for pedestrians crossing the street and improve safety for pedestrians. In Beijing, a type of new-designed crosswalk markings in China (NCMC) was installed. However, evaluating the effectiveness of this type of crosswalk markings was not conducted. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of this type of new-designed crosswalk markings. During the evaluation process, the vehicle-pedestrian interaction was considered; standard crosswalk markings in China (SCMC) were taken as a control group. In addition, empirical data were collected from a driving simulator, and nine evaluating indicators representing vehicle operating data, drivers' maneuvering data and drivers' subjective evaluation were proposed. In order to combine nine indicators, a Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was used in this study to achieve the premium degrees of these two types of crosswalk markings. The evaluation result showed that, for intersections with high or low pedestrian flow, the comprehensive effectiveness and influences on drivers' driving behaviors with presence of NCMC were better than those with presence of SCMC, no matter where vehicle-pedestrian interactions occurred. For intersections with no pedestrians, the comprehensive effectiveness and influences on drivers' driving behaviors with presence of NCMC were worse than those with presence of SCMC, no matter where vehicle-pedestrian interaction occurred. These results may provide references for facility installing and future development of standards. Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid, GA) is a phenolic compound found in many medicinal plants traditionally used in China or patent medicine such as Feiyangchangweiyan capsule (FY capsule) for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases for decades. However, the evidence for the gastroprotective effect of GA is deficient and the pharmacological mechanisms remain limited. The present investigation was initiated to demonstrate the gastroprotective effect and to understand potential underlying mechanism of GA on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats. Gastric ulcers were induced by absolute ethanol (5 mL/kg, i.g.) in male Sprague-Dawley rats, GA (10, 30, and 50 mg/kg), FY capsule (0.4 g/kg) and 30 mg/kg Lansoprazole was administered orally. Physiological saline and lansoprazole were used as negative and positive control, respectively. Induction of rats with ethanol resulted in a significant rise in ulcer index, serum levels of inflammatory cytokines markers (IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α), TBARS, protein expression of Bax and Caspase-3 and a significant reduction in the activities or levels of endogenous antioxidants (***, CAT and GSH), gastric mucosal protective factors (PGE2 and NO) and protein expression of Bcl-2. Pretreatment with GA showed a remarkable decrease in ulcer index, inflammatory cytokines markers, TBARS, protein expression of Bax and Caspase-3 and a significant increase in the activities of endogenous antioxidants, levels of PGE2 and NO, and protein expression of Bcl-2, Nrf2 and HO-1 when compared with ethanol treated groups. This study demonstrated the gastroprotective effect of Gallic acid and FY capsule on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats. The underlying mechanism of GA and FY capsule against gastric ulcer in rats caused by ethanol might be involved in Nrf2/HO-1 anti-oxidative pathway and ultimately played an anti-apoptotic role through regulating Bax, Bcl-2 and Caspase-3. PURPOSE Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is an unavoidable complication in patients with hypertensive heart disease. Valsartan, a widely used antihypertensive drug, was reported to inhibit MF. Deficiency in the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) transporter gene has been proven to cause MF. Long-term sympathetic nerve excitability activates renin angiotensin aldosterone system leading to MF. Tandospirone, a partial agonist of the 5-HT1A receptor, has been commonly used to relieve psychiatric symptoms. However, there is limited evidence on the combination of valsartan and tandospirone for the treatment of MF. Therefore, we investigated the synergistic effect of tandospirone on the anti-MF activity of valsartan in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). METHODS Systolic blood pressure (SBP) of SHRs (12-week-old) was measured weekly using the tail-cuff method for eight weeks; the left ventricular was collected and weighted for calculation of the left ventricular mass index (LVMI). Gastric ulcers were induced by absolute ethanol (5 mL/kg, i.g.) in male Sprague-Dawley rats, GA (10, 30, and 50 mg/kg), FY capsule (0.4 g/kg) and 30 mg/kg Lansoprazole was administered orally. Physiological saline and lansoprazole were used as negative and positive control, respectively. Induction of rats with ethanol resulted in a significant rise in ulcer index, serum levels of inflammatory cytokines markers (IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α), TBARS, protein expression of Bax and Caspase-3 and a significant reduction in the activities or levels of endogenous antioxidants (SOD, CAT and GSH), gastric mucosal protective factors (PGE2 and NO) and protein expression of Bcl-2. Pretreatment with GA showed a remarkable decrease in ulcer index, inflammatory cytokines markers, TBARS, protein expression of Bax and Caspase-3 and a significant increase in the activities of endogenous antioxidants, levels of PGE2 and NO, and protein expression of Bcl-2, Nrf2 and HO-1 when compared with ethanol treated groups. This study demonstrated the gastroprotective effect of Gallic acid and FY capsule on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats. The underlying mechanism of GA and FY capsule against gastric ulcer in rats caused by ethanol might be involved in Nrf2/HO-1 anti-oxidative pathway and ultimately played an anti-apoptotic role through regulating Bax, Bcl-2 and Caspase-3. PURPOSE Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is an unavoidable complication in patients with hypertensive heart disease. Valsartan, a widely used antihypertensive drug, was reported to inhibit MF. Deficiency in the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) transporter gene has been proven to cause MF. Long-term sympathetic nerve excitability activates renin angiotensin aldosterone system leading to MF. Tandospirone, a partial agonist of the 5-HT1A receptor, has been commonly used to relieve psychiatric symptoms. Therefore, we investigated the synergistic effect of tandospirone on the anti-MF activity of valsartan in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). In this review, we highlight the current understanding of and development of immunotherapy to target 1) shared non-mutant antigens 2) shared mutant antigens (neoantigens) derived from cancer-specific mutations 3) personalized neoantigens derived from tumor-specific genetic alterations containing de novo peptide sequences and 4) virus-derived antigens. We also discuss strategies to enhance tumor immunogenicity and neoantigen prediction. Spatial heterogeneity remains a formidable challenge for immunotherapy of glioma; recent advances in targeting multiple antigens and refining the antigen selection pipeline hold great promise to turn the tide against glioma. Although freeze-drying is an excellent method for preserving microorganisms, it inevitably reduces cell activity and function. Moreover, probiotic strains differ in terms of their sensitivity to the freeze-drying process. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the variables relevant to this process. The pre-freezing temperature is a critical parameter of the freeze-drying process, but it remains unclear whether the optimal pre-freezing temperature differs among strains and protectants. This study explored the effects of 4 different pre-freezing temperatures on the survival rates of different Lactobacillus plantarum strains after freeze-drying in the presence of different protectants. Using phosphate-buffered saline solution and sorbitol as protectants, pre-freezing at -196°C, -40°C, and -20°C ensured the highest survival rates after freeze-drying for AR113, AR307, and WCFS1, respectively. Using trehalose, pre-freezing at -20°C ensured the best survival rate for AR113, and -60°C was the best pre-freezing temperature for AR307 and WCFS1. These results indicate that the pre-freezing temperature can be changed to improve the survival rate of L. plantarum, and that this effect is strain-specific. Further studies have demonstrated that pre-freezing temperature affected viability via changes in cell membrane integrity, membrane permeability, and lactate dehydrogenase activity. Adhesion and invasion ability, release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), ultrastructural morphology, apoptosis, transcriptional expression of pro-inflammatory genes and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines were characterized at various intervals. However, advancements in transition and reproductive management, coupled with widespread use of sex-sorted semen in dairy heifers and cows, have led to an oversupply of dairy replacement heifers in the United States. With current market values for prepartum heifers at $1,300 and estimated raising costs ranging from $1,700 to $2,400, dairies that continue to produce quantities of heifers in excess of anticipated needs with plans of selling the extras on the open market are likely to experience significant economic loss. Adult cow herd turnover is the key driver behind the number of heifers needed to calve; however, mortality, disease, fertility, and elective culling losses throughout the heifer-raising period determine the total number of heifers that must be retained and raised to meet anticipated needs. A convenience sample of 50 US dairy herds revealed an average heifer inventory of 102% of total milking and dry cows.
