Cumulative clinical and experimental evidence has revealed a cardinal role for mitochondrial integrity in cardiac aging. Parkin-mediated mitophagy is essential to ensure mitochondrial quality control in myocardium. This study was designed to examine the impact of Parkin overexpression on aging-induced myocardial anomalies and the underlying mechanisms with a focus on Parkin-regulated mitophagy. Cardiac function, myocardial apoptosis, mitochondrial ultrastructure and mitophagy were examined in young (3 mo) and old (24-26 mo) wild-type (WT) and Parkin transgenic ****. Our data revealed compromised myocardial function and mitochondrial morphology along with overtly apoptosis with advanced aging, the effects of which were attenuated by Parkin overexpression. Advanced aging dampened mitophagy as evidenced by decreased levels of Parkin, LC3II, phosphorylation of p62 and TBK1 in isolated mitochondria as well as reduced mitochondria autophagosomes, the effects of which were mitigated by restoration of mitophagy via Parkin overexpression. Using the low-dose doxorubicin (DOX) in vitro model of cell senescence, we noted that Parkin-offered beneficial effect against senescence was abolished by the TBK1 kinase inhibitor BX795. With TBK1 overexpression in cardiomyocytes, we uncovered the interaction of Parkin with TBK1 using a Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) assay. The interaction of Parkin with TBK1 contributed to K63-linked polyubiquitination of TBK1. Our study also noted that DOX disturbed K63-linked polyubiquitination of TBK1 with downregulation of Parkin. Parkin overexpression promoted K63-linked polyubiquitination of TBK1 through Lys30 and Lys401 residues to foster TBK1 phosphorylation to facilitate efficient mitophagy. In summary, these findings suggested that Parkin effectively rescued cardiac aging through promoting K63-linked polyubiquitination of TBK1 to facilitate mitophagy.Volumetric magnetic resonance imaging studies have shown that intense learning can be associated with grey matter volume increases in the adult brain. The LC can be identified in vivo using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging techniques which have potential as biomarkers for detecting and monitoring disease progression. Technical limitations of existing imaging protocols have impaired the sensitivity to regional contrast variance or the spatial variability on the rostrocaudal extent of the LC, with spatial mapping consistent with post mortem findings. The current study employs a sensitive magnetisation transfer sequence using ultrahigh field 7T MRI to investigate the LC structure in vivo at high-resolution (0.4 × 0.4 × 0.5 mm). Magnetisation transfer images from 53 healthy older volunteers (52 - 84 years) clearly revealed the spatial features of the LC and were used to create a probabilistic LC atlas for older adults. This atlas may be especially relevant for studying disorders associated with older age. To use the atlas does not require use of the same MT sequence of 7T MRI, provided good co-registration and normalisation is achieved. Consistent rostrocaudal gradients of slice-wise volume, contrast and variance along the LC were observed, mirroring distinctive ex vivo spatial distributions of LC cells in its subregions. The contrast-to-noise ratios were calculated for the peak voxels, and for the averaged signals within the atlas, to accommodate the volumetric differences in estimated contrast. The probabilistic atlas is freely available, and the MRI dataset will be made available for non-commercial research, for replication or to facilitate accurate LC localisation and unbiased contrast extraction in future studies.There is evidence that seeing a graspable object automatically elicits a preparatory motor process. However, it is unclear whether this implicit visuomotor process might influence the preparation of a successive grasp for a different object. We addressed the issue by implementing a combined behavioural and electrophysiological paradigm. Participants performed pantomimed grasps directed to small or large disks with either a two (pincer) or a five-finger (pentapod) grip, after the presentation of congruent (same size) or incongruent (different size) distractor disks. Preview reaction times (PRTs) and response-locked lateralized readiness potentials (R-LRPs) were recorded as online indices of motor preparation. Results revealed asymmetric effects of the distractors on PRTs and R-LRPs. For pincer grip disks, incongruent distractors were associated with longer PRTs and a delayed R-LRP peak. For pentapod grip disks, conversely, incongruent distractors were associated with shorter PRTs and a delayed R-LRP onset. RESULTS We found that treatment with NTE reduced the expression levels of TFR1 and DMT1, reduced ROS, MDA and iron accumulation and reduced neurobehavioral scores, relative to untreated MCAO rats. V.OBJECTIVES The authors present the clinical practice guidelines of the French Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SFORL) concerning the role of the ENT specialist in the management of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (POSAHS). Part 3 is dedicated to the place of sleep recordings in the diagnosis of POSAHS. METHODS A multidisciplinary work group was commissioned to carry out a review of the scientific literature on the above topic. Based on the articles retrieved and the group members' individual experience, guidelines were drafted and graded as A, B or C or Expert Opinion by decreasing level of evidence, then reviewed by an editorial group independent of the work group. RESULTS Sleep recordings are presented according to the American Sleep Disorders Association's classification as type 1, 2, 3 or 4. Their modalities, interpretation, indications, advantages and limitations are detailed. BACKGROUND Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y (LRYGB) gastric bypass is an effective treatment for morbid obesity. Acid-related complications after LRYGB could be prevented by prophylactic proton pump inhibition (PPI). OBJECTIVE To identify the effect of PPI prophylaxis on short-term, acid-related complications in a large cohort. SETTING National Registry, Sweden. METHODS A total of 37,301 patients who underwent LRYGB in Sweden from 2009 to 2014 were identified in the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry. Patient-specific factors were cross matched with socioeconomic variables and information on PPI dispensation. A logistic regression model was used to analyze acid-related complications (e.g., marginal ulcer, stricture, and perforation) within 30 days and at 1 year postoperatively. RESULTS PPI prophylaxis did not reduce the rate of acid-related complications. Instead, prolonged operation time (odds ratio [OR] 2.19 [1.53-3.13]) and immigrant background (OR 1.72 [1.17-2.53]) increased the risk of marginal ulcer within 30 days. At 1 year, medical treatment for diabetes (OR 1.75 [1.14-2.67]) and dyspepsia (OR 1.71 [1.06-2.75]), larger gastric pouch (OR 2.19 [1.528-3.248]), longer operation time (OR 1.67 [1.11-2.51]), smoking (OR 2.59 [1.77-3.78]), and immigrant background (OR 1.60 [1.08-2.36]) increased the risk for marginal ulcer, while older age (OR 2.20 [1.05-4.63]) predisposed for stricture. Inferior weight loss was associated with marginal ulcer at 1 year (OR 1.50 [1.04-2.15]). Among environmental risk factors, smoking, iodine excess, selenium and vitamin D deficiency, and the occupational exposure to Agent Orange have been associated with GD. Many studies showed that HCV is associated with thyroid autoimmunity and hypothyroidism, in patients with chronic HCV hepatitis (CHC); a significant link has been shown also between HCV-related mixed cryoglobulinemia and risk for GD. Moreover, IFN-α-treated CHC patients develop GD more frequently. Novel studies are needed about possible risk factors to reduce the occurence of GD in West Countries. Proportion-integral-derivative control models, which are extensively used in the automated control of industrial processes, formalize this intuition. Previous computational approaches to anxiety have separately addressed behavioral inhibition and exaggerated error processing, but a proportion-integral-derivative control approach that decomposes error processing into current and anticipated error could integrate these accounts and extend them to a real-time sensorimotor control domain. METHODS We applied a simplified proportion-derivative control model to a virtual driving task in a transdiagnostic psychiatric sample of 317 individuals and computed a drive parameter (weighting of current error) and a damping parameter (weighting of the rate of change of error, enabling adjustment based on future error). RESULTS Self-reported fear, but not negative affect, was selectively associated with lower drive and lower damping. Those individuals that were characterized by lower drive and damping also exhibited lower caudal anterior cingulate cortex, but not insula, volume in a structural magnetic resonance imaging analysis. CONCLUSIONS The proportion-derivative control approach reveals that fear is specifically associated with reduced weighting of current error and overestimation of future error, resulting in both approach inhibition and overcorrecting overshoots around a goal state. Novel therapeutic tools better adapted to VC particularities are essential for improving individual outcomes. Significant improvements in disease-free survival and overall survival rates for patients diagnosed with post-stage I disease have been achieved by implementing a combination therapy consisting of radical surgical resection, systemic chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Achieving local control remains challenging. However, mostly due to specific anatomical conditions, the need for comprehensive surgical reconstruction and frequent post-operative healing complications. Novel therapeutic tools better adapted to VC particularities are essential for improving individual outcomes. We explore lineage differentiation and range restriction in the AF and ask if genetic divergence and morphological disparity are correlated by integrating coalescent-based species delimitation, molecular phylogenetic, and morphological analyses in the lizard genus Leposoma. We present the first species tree for Leposoma and of their tribe, the Ecpleopodini. The analyses are based on the largest dataset ever assembled for Leposoma in terms of number of species (all represented), genetic markers (12 loci), and geographic coverage (~2,500 km). The exercise allows us to robustly delimit species within the genus and phylogeographic lineages within all species. We find support for the monophyly of the genus and for the recognition of a yet undescribed species around thrth of the Doce river; phylogeographic sampling in that region has been **** less common relative to southern sites, yet it may hold the key to several important processes defining biodiversity patterns in eastern Brazil. Moreover, the powders showed a distinct tribo-charging sensitivity to RH, with paracetamol being the most affected. Furthermore, recreational users are haphazardly acquiring these compounds from the internet and consuming doses several times greater than empirically reported. Unfortunately, online sources are rife with potential contamination, despite a prevailing public opinion suggesting SARMs are innocuous AAS alternatives. Considering each agent has a broad range of supporting evidence in both human and non-human models, it is important to comprehensively evaluate the current literature on commercially available SARMs to gain better understanding of their efficacy and if they can truly be considered a safer AAS alternative. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to discuss the current evidence regarding AAS and SARM mechanisms of action, demonstrate the efficacy of several prominent SARMs in a variety of scientific trials, and theorize on the wide-ranging contraindications and potential deleterious effects, as well as potential future directions regarding acute and chronic SARM use across a broad range of demographics.

Our study presents a bioinformatics assessment for the potential risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pan-cancer.Pentoxifylline (PTX) is a non-specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor with pleiotropic effects that is routinely used to treat peripheral vascular disease. In this study, we tested whether PTX could also counteract the detrimental effects of aging in the brain. To accomplish that, we treated aged rats with PTX and measured resulting behavioral alterations as well as changes in dopaminergic neurochemical levels, oxidative balance markers, mitochondrial function, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) and downstream gene expression, and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) content in the brain. The results demonstrated that PTX improved motor and cognitive deficits and restored levels of dopamine and its metabolites in the brains of aged rats. PTX also reduced malondialdehyde levels and increased the GSH/GSSG ratio, mitochondrial ATP, nuclear Nrf2, and cAMP levels, and upregulated PGC-1α, nuclear respiratory factor 1, and mitochondrial transcription factor A expression in the substantia nigra and hippocampus of aged rats. Thus, increased nuclear Nrf2 levels and upregulation of PGC-1α, which enhance antioxidative capability and promote mitochondrial biogenesis, may be responsible for PTX-induced amelioration of behavioral deficits in aged rats.
Tumor necrosis factor superfamily protein 14 (TNFSF14) was recently identified as a risk factor in some fibrosis diseases. However, the role of TNFSF14 in renal fibrosis pathogenesis remains unknown.
It was found that TNFSF14 levels were significantly increased both in UUO-induced renal fibrotic **** and in patients with fibrotic nephropathy, compared with those in controls. Accordingly,
deficiency led to a marked reduction in renal fibrosis lesions and inflammatory cytokines expression in the UUO ****. Furthermore, the levels of Sphk1, a critical molecule that causes fibrotic nephropathy, were remarkably reduced in

It has been reported that angiotensin II (Ang-II) damages the function of EPCs in atherosclerotic plaque through induction of oxidative stress. Sestrin 2 (Sesn2) serves as an antioxidant role in oxidative stress, however, the exact mechanisms underlying the dynamics of how Sesn2 may factor into EPCs after Ang-II treatments needs to be illustrated. We isolated EPCs from human umbilical cord blood samples and treated with Ang-II. Western blotting, qRT-PCR, transwell assays, immunofluorescence and so on were used to investigate the mechanisms underlying the roles of Sesn2 in EPCs treated with Ang-II. Ang-II was found to promote the apoptosis of EPCs as well as inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of Sesn2. Upregulation of Sesn2 attenuated the negative effect of Ang-II. Sesn2 increased the protein expression of Nrf2 by enhancing P62-dependent autophagy. Our study presents a bioinformatics assessment for the potential risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pan-cancer.Pentoxifylline (PTX) is a non-specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor with pleiotropic effects that is routinely used to treat peripheral vascular disease. In this study, we tested whether PTX could also counteract the detrimental effects of aging in the brain. To accomplish that, we treated aged rats with PTX and measured resulting behavioral alterations as well as changes in dopaminergic neurochemical levels, oxidative balance markers, mitochondrial function, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) and downstream gene expression, and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) content in the brain. The results demonstrated that PTX improved motor and cognitive deficits and restored levels of dopamine and its metabolites in the brains of aged rats. PTX also reduced malondialdehyde levels and increased the GSH/GSSG ratio, mitochondrial ATP, nuclear Nrf2, and cAMP levels, and upregulated PGC-1α, nuclear respiratory factor 1, and mitochondrial transcription factor A expression in the substantia nigra and hippocampus of aged rats. Western blotting, qRT-PCR, transwell assays, immunofluorescence and so on were used to investigate the mechanisms underlying the roles of Sesn2 in EPCs treated with Ang-II. We recognize that physicians undertaking industry sponsored research should be protected and not be liable to perverse incentives. We conclude that mitigating bias in industry sponsored research is a multistep process and needs a multifaceted approach. The main beneficiary of research should be patients and as such a collective effort from medical professionals, health care institutions, journals and industry should approach research, and publications with that in mind.

To determine the differences between C3 laminectomy (LN) and C3 laminoplasty (LP) in cervical LP.
Interlaminar bony fusion after cervical LP is reported to be related to a decrease in postoperative range of motion (ROM) or neurological disorder. However, it remains uncertain whether C3 LN affects patient-reported outcomes, especially after double-door LPs. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of C3 LN compared with C3 LP in cervical double-door LP.
Using our prospective database, consecutive patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy undergoing cervical double-door LP in 7 hospitals between April 2017 and May 2018 were enrolled. Before and 1 year after the surgeries, we collected the details of patient background data, operative factors, radiologic findings such as C2-C7 ROM angle and C2-C3 interlaminar bony fusion, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, postoperative satisfaction, neck pain, and patient-reported outcomes such as Short Form-12 (SF-12), EuroQol 5 Dimension (EQ-5D), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and the Core Outcome Measures Index (COMI) for the neck.
In all, 152 patients were enrolled, including 97 undergoing C3 LP and 55 undergoing C3 LN. There were no significant differences in patient background data, complications, and operative factors. C2-C3 interlaminar bony fusion occurred more often in the C3 LP group (22.6% vs. 5.7%). There were also no differences in the C2-C7 angle, C2-C7 ROM angle, the JOA score, patient satisfaction, neck pain, SF-12, EQ-5D, NDI, and COMI between the groups.
C2-C3 bony fusion after cervical double-door LP occurred more often in the C3 LP group than in the C3 LN group. C3 LN resulted in similar outcomes in complication rate, radiographic outcomes, and clinical outcomes compared with those of C3 LP.

Level III.Anxiety disorders are common comorbidities of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conversely, ADHD is prevalent among anxious youths. A variety of treatments, both psychopharmacological and nonpsychopharmacological, are used to manage combined ADHD/anxiety disorder. This article aims to review the literature on the treatment of ADHD with comorbid anxiety disorders, and make evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice. In most cases, when ADHD is the primary condition, stimulants are the first-line of treatment, frequently resulting not only in improvement in ADHD symptoms but also alleviating the symptoms of the comorbid anxiety disorder. Stimulant treatment is relatively safe and well-tolerated in ADHD with comorbid anxiety disorder. When the stimulant administration does not attenuate the severity of the comorbid anxiety disorder, a treatment that targets specifically the anxiety disorder should be added. This recommendation, however, might be challenged by the impressive efficacy of atomoxetine for both the ADHD and anxiety disorder symptoms. Adjunctive cognitive-behavior therapy for anxiety disorder symptoms is strongly recommended and is considered superior to medication alone. Other options include adding pharmacological treatment for the anxiety symptoms. In moderate and severe cases of comorbid Ads, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be added to the stimulants, with the required caution.To date, only a few studies compared some long-acting injectables (LAIs) antipsychotics showing similar symptom improvement, relapse rates and adherence to treatment. We evaluated the use of LAIs antipsychotics [aripiprazole-1-month (A1M); paliperidone-1-month and 3-month (PP1M and PP3M) and biweekly (2w)-LAIs] and their corresponding oral formulations through (1) the number of hospital re-admissions, (2) the number of documented suicidal behaviour/attempts and (3) the use of concomitant benzodiazepines, oral antipsychotics and biperiden. A total of 277 patients, ≥18 years old, were included if were treated with the corresponding oral or LAI antipsychotic during at least 12 months and were previously diagnosed with schizophrenia. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/filgotinib.html Our results showed that LAIs associated significantly lower suicidal behaviour, reduced the number of hospital admissions, lower diazepam and haloperidol equivalents and mean daily dose of biperiden intake versus oral antipsychotics. Triphasic waves (TWs) have been associated with a host of medication toxicities, and cefepime has emerged recently as a frequently encountered offending agent. This investigation aims to evaluate cefepime-induced encephalopathy and to report the associated clinical, EEG expression with TWs, and the radiologic findings.
A retrospective multicenter observational study examining adult patients with cefepime-induced encephalopathy with generalized periodic discharges on either routine or continuous EEG between January 2014 and January 2020. Clinical, electrographic, and radiologic data were collected. Patients in whom cefepime was not the sole causative factor for their encephalopathy were excluded.
Twenty-seven patients with cefepime-induced encephalopathy marked by generalized periodic discharges with triphasic morphology were identified at both centers, whereas no patients were presenting with generalized periodic discharges without TWs. Patients had a median age of 63 years (interquartile range, 56-73).

Revealing the aggregation and fibrillation process of variant amyloid proteins is critical for understanding the molecular mechanism of related amyloidosis diseases. Here we characterized the fibrillation morphology and kinetics of type 2 diabetes (T2D) related human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP1-37) fibril formation process using negative staining transmission electron microscopy (NS-TEM), cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) analysis, and 3D cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) reconstruction, together with circular dichroism (CD) and Thioflavin-T (ThT) assays. Our results showed that various amyloid fibrils can be observed at different time points of hIAPP1-37 fibrillization process, while the winding of protofibrils presents in different growth stages, which suggests a synchronous process of hIAPP1-37 amyloid fibrillization. Therefore, we investigated the potential lipolytic effects of DLPC on adipocytes and insulin signaling in muscle cells. In this study, DLPC-treated 3T3-L1 adipocytes showed enhanced tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) release. Suppression of TNF-α by short interfering RNA (siRNA) mitigated DLPC-induced lipolysis and apoptosis. DLPC treatment increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) expression levels in C2C12 myocytes. siRNA-mediated suppression of PPARα abrogated the suppressive effects of DLPC on palmitate-induced inflammation and insulin resistance. Revealing the aggregation and fibrillation process of variant amyloid proteins is critical for understanding the molecular mechanism of related amyloidosis diseases. Here we characterized the fibrillation morphology and kinetics of type 2 diabetes (T2D) related human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP1-37) fibril formation process using negative staining transmission electron microscopy (NS-TEM), cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) analysis, and 3D cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) reconstruction, together with circular dichroism (CD) and Thioflavin-T (ThT) assays. Our results showed that various amyloid fibrils can be observed at different time points of hIAPP1-37 fibrillization process, while the winding of protofibrils presents in different growth stages, which suggests a synchronous process of hIAPP1-37 amyloid fibrillization. Therefore, we investigated the potential lipolytic effects of DLPC on adipocytes and insulin signaling in muscle cells. In this study, DLPC-treated 3T3-L1 adipocytes showed enhanced tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) release. Suppression of TNF-α by short interfering RNA (siRNA) mitigated DLPC-induced lipolysis and apoptosis. DLPC treatment increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) expression levels in C2C12 myocytes. siRNA-mediated suppression of PPARα abrogated the suppressive effects of DLPC on palmitate-induced inflammation and insulin resistance. A mixed-methods process evaluation and feasibility study was undertaken for a need-supportive physical activity program that was piloted in a single-group pre-post study. The piloted program was designed to support participant needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness through evidence-based and theory-informed behavior change strategies including a motivational interviewing style appointment, education on self-management tools (i.e., pedometers, goal setting, action and coping planning, a customized website for goal setting and self-monitoring), and self-determined methods of regulating physical activity intensity [affect, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and self-pacing]. In addition, this study also investigates how perceived supervisors' remorse (PSR) mitigates the adverse effects of abusive supervision. Based on time-lagged, dyadic data (63 supervisors, 212 subordinates) from Chinese individuals, this study found support for all the proposed relationships, i.e., abusive supervision leads to service sabotage through the mediating effect of revenge desire. The findings also conclude that PSR lessens the detrimental effects of abusive supervision on victims' behavior with their customers. Finally, this research contributes to service sabotage literature by highlighting the possibility where abusive supervisors cause service sabotage behavior among victims. The purpose of this paper was to introduce Newell's constraint-led model and its multidimensional spectrum and practical scope to address the complexities of athlete development. The model consists of three overarching constraint categories (i.e., individual, task, and environment) along with proposed additional sub-categories to capture nuances associated in Para sport in order to provide additional context to coaches regarding athlete development. Utilizing this theoretical framework, we present a holistic approach for coaches and practitioners to consider while addressing athletes' short- and long-term developmental plans. This approach highlights the interactions among factors from a wide range of categories that indirectly and directly impact one another and ultimately influence athletes' developmental processes. It is important to consider the dynamic interaction of constraints over various timescales during development and identify underlying issues to improve athlete experience and maximize developmental opportunities. Coaches and practitioners can use the proposed framework as a guide to key factors to consider for their cohort of athletes. This approach provides a context-specific approach that considers unique factors associated with athletes and their environment.

Reducing the need for hospitalisation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important goal in COPD management. The aim of this study was to evaluate re-hospitalisation, treatment, comorbidities and mortality in patients with COPD who were hospitalised for the first time due to a COPD exacerbation.
This was a retrospective, population-based observational cohort study of Swedish patients using linked data from three mandatory national health registries to assess re-hospitalisation rates, medication use and mortality. Rate of hospitalisation was calculated using the number of events divided by the number of person-years at risk; risk of all-cause and COPD-related mortality were assessed using Cox proportional hazard models.
In total, 51,247 patients were identified over 10 years; 35% of patients were not using inhaled corticosteroid, long-acting muscarinic antagonist or long-acting β
-agonist treatment prior to hospitalisation, 38% of whom continued without treatment after becurrent comorbidities had an increased risk of being re-hospitalised.
Improving patients' information needs (IN) may contribute to better control in COPD. This study analyses IN using Lung Information Needs Questionnaire (LINQ) following an educational intervention, evaluates how clinical characteristics modify IN, and studies high IN as a prognostic factor for COPD exacerbations and hospital admissions.
Cohort of 143 patients with initial diagnosis of COPD included in a structured educational program. Two months after completing the program, IN was assessed using LINQ. Correlations between IN and clinical variables of COPD and distribution of IN in different clinical groups were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analysis was performed to determine influence of IN on exacerbations and COPD admissions over the following year.
LINQ scored 6.3±2.9. There were no differences in LINQ scoring between different clinical groups, but LINQ score positively correlated with age (r=0.184, p=0.029). High IN was a predictor of COPD hospitalizations (HR 2.3 [95% CI 1.1-5.1] (p=0.029)) but not of less severe exacerbations (p=0.334).

The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and examine the preliminary effectiveness of a mobile application-based meal assistant training program (APP) for use by direct care workers (CAs) assisting residents with dementia in long-term care facilities in South Korea.
We adopted a mixed methods research design, which included a pre- and post-intervention study and focus group interviews for the feasibility assessment. Participants included 23 dyads of older adults with dementia and their CAs from a long-term care facility in South Korea. Upon completion of the APP intervention, focused group interviews were conducted with six CAs and five nurses.
The results of paired
-tests showed that the effects of the APP intervention on the older adults with dementia and their CAs were not significant; however, the results of the focused group interviews support the potential usefulness of the APP for CAs.

To explore the effects of different lifestyle choices on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and to establish a decision tree model to analyse their predictive significance on the incidence of MCI.
Study participants were recruited from geriatric and physical examination centres from October 2015 to October 2019 330 MCI patients and 295 normal cognitive (NC) patients. Cognitive function was evaluated by the Mini-Mental State Examination Scale (MMSE) and Clinical Dementia Scale (CDR), while the Barthel Index (BI) was used to evaluate life ability. Statistical analysis included the
test, logistic regression, and decision tree. The ROC curve was drawn to evaluate the predictive ability of the decision tree model.
Logistic regression analysis showed that low education, living alone, smoking, and a high-fat diet were risk factors for MCI, while young age, tea drinking, afternoon naps, social engagement, and hobbies were protective factors for MCI. Social engagement, a high-fat diet, hobbies, living condition, tea drinking, and smoking entered all nodes of the decision tree model, with social engagement as the root node variable. The importance of predictive variables in the decision tree model showed social engagement, a high-fat diet, tea drinking, hobbies, living condition, and smoking as 33.57%, 27.74%, 22.14%, 11.94%, 4.61%, and 0%, respectively. The area under the ROC curve predicted by the decision tree model was 0.827 (95% CI 0.795~0.856).

Isometric strength measures and timed up and go (TUG) tests are both recognized as valuable tools for fall prediction in older adults. However, results from direct comparison of these two tests are lacking. We aimed to assess the potential of isometric strength measures and the different modalities of the TUG test to detect individuals at risk of falling.
This is a prospective cohort study including 24 community-dwelling older adults (≥65 years, 19 females, 88±7 years). Participants performed three variations of the TUG test (standard, counting and holding a full cup) and three isometric strength tests (handgrip, knee extension and hip flexion) at several time points (at baseline and every ~6 weeks) during a one-year follow-up. The association between these tests and the incidence of falls during the follow-up was assessed.
Twelve participants out of 24 participants experienced falls during the follow-up. Fallers showed a significantly lower handgrip strength (-5.7 kg, 95% confidence interval -10.4 to -1.

Study participants were recruited from geriatric and physical examination centres from October 2015 to October 2019 330 MCI patients and 295 normal cognitive (NC) patients. Cognitive function was evaluated by the Mini-Mental State Examination Scale (MMSE) and Clinical Dementia Scale (CDR), while the Barthel Index (BI) was used to evaluate life ability. Statistical analysis included the test, logistic regression, and decision tree. The ROC curve was drawn to evaluate the predictive ability of the decision tree model. Logistic regression analysis showed that low education, living alone, smoking, and a high-fat diet were risk factors for MCI, while young age, tea drinking, afternoon naps, social engagement, and hobbies were protective factors for MCI. Social engagement, a high-fat diet, hobbies, living condition, tea drinking, and smoking entered all nodes of the decision tree model, with social engagement as the root node variable. The importance of predictive variables in the decision tree model showed social engagement, a high-fat diet, tea drinking, hobbies, living condition, and smoking as 33.57%, 27.74%, 22.14%, 11.94%, 4.61%, and 0%, respectively. The area under the ROC curve predicted by the decision tree model was 0.827 (95% CI 0.795~0.856). Isometric strength measures and timed up and go (TUG) tests are both recognized as valuable tools for fall prediction in older adults. However, results from direct comparison of these two tests are lacking. We aimed to assess the potential of isometric strength measures and the different modalities of the TUG test to detect individuals at risk of falling. This is a prospective cohort study including 24 community-dwelling older adults (≥65 years, 19 females, 88±7 years). Participants performed three variations of the TUG test (standard, counting and holding a full cup) and three isometric strength tests (handgrip, knee extension and hip flexion) at several time points (at baseline and every ~6 weeks) during a one-year follow-up. The association between these tests and the incidence of falls during the follow-up was assessed. Twelve participants out of 24 participants experienced falls during the follow-up.
